On the Road
A team winning its first 13 games at home will bring inevitable comparisons to its success on the road. And keeping the 13-0 start at Dodger Stadium in perspective is easy when considering the 1911 Detroit Tigers won their first 12 home games en route to a second-place finish in the American League, 13 ½ games behind the Philadelphia Athletics.
So what does a road record mean for a team hoping to make the playoffs? In the case of the Dodgers, Los Angeles has posted four consecutive losing records on the road, but two of those seasons resulted in trips to the playoffs.
Here are the Dodger road records during the past 10 seasons: 2008 (36-45), 2007 (39-42), 2006 (39-42), 2005 (31-50), 2004 (44-37), 2003 (39-42), 2002 (46-35), 2001 (42-39), 2000 (42-39), 1999 (40-41).
Now check out the regular-season road records for the past 10 World Series winning teams: 2008 Phillies (44-37), 2007 Red Sox (45-36), 2006 Cardinals (34-47), 2005 White Sox (52-29), 2004 Red Sox (43-38), 2003 Marlins (38-43), 2002 Angels (45-36), 2001 Diamondbacks (44-37), 2000 Yankees (43-38), 1999 Yankees (50-31).

Speaking of being on the road, “On the Road” author Jack Kerouac, a favorite of mine, apparently was a fantasy baseball player. Sort of. Check out this story in today’s NY Times. Makes me even more proud of the Kerouac bobblehead that sits on my desk back at Dodger Stadium.

I am very pleased with this current road trip. We are doing a fine job of getting things done in order to win ball games. Keepm up the good work, Dodgers. Another victory today would be so sweet!!!!

Hey Tru, long time no talk!!! Yeah, the team has performed well on this road trip. We win tonight, and we’re assured of winning another series!!! That’s what I look for; not necessarily winning every game; no one can do that. But if the Dodgers win the majority of their series throughout the season, no one’s going to stop us!!!
I just hope and pray that Eric Milton is up to this and that the Eric Milton that we saw in ST stays away!!!
It woud be nice to score lots of runs so we don’t have to worry so much about Milton.

I don’t know how Milton will do. Looking at what he has been through following his operation, you have to admire his persistence and certainly wish him well in the Dodger Blue. I’m not expecting a great deal, and he’s probably worth giving a chance. If he’s able to go at least five, preferably six innings, and not yield more than three runs, I’ll consider it a good start in his circumstances. That would be a real plus for the team, since that’s pretty much what we get from Stults and lucky to get from Kershaw. Hopefully he has decent control and can keep out of trouble in that respect.
I expect out team should be able to ring up another five runs or better. Have a great day, fellow ITD’ers!

Good to be back on TV, but the Eric Milton on the radio was doing a lot better.
I think I’ve seen all of Milton that I care to. Let somebody else salvage what’s not likely to be a promising extended career. That’s too bad, because I agree with enchanted that Kershaw is probably the guy who could benefit from a year in AAA.

So we brought up Uncle Milty to go 4 innings. Why not keep Weaver in the rotation? He at least goes 5.

Not Belisario’s fault at all. For that matter he shouldn’t have to be pitching two innings. I also know that we’ve got a great team record, and that this has already been a successful road trip. A good team can carry a slumping player and overcome daily let-downs by other players, but I’m really getting fed up with Furcal. When you consider that he’s signed his second three year contract at premium prices for his field position, he has underperformed for us at a level unexcelled except for Schmidt. Consider his time on DL, his low performance the year that he played at much less than 100%, and his continued low performance this season. If it wasn’t for the resurgence of Pierre, which may be short-lived in the long run, we would not be scoring many runs, because Furcal produces Zip at top of the order. I wish we had a three year contract for Hudson instead of Furcal. If he’s still hurt, or still recovering, what the hell is he doing in there every day. He should be sat out for an entire series and then dropped down to the 8 or even 9 position in the order until he can show some progress. In the meantime Furcal SUCKS, and I’m not afraid to call it as I see it.
M/bear brings up an interesting point. A few think Furcal is still ailing, with a multi-year contract. Hudson, also coming off an injury has one year. I’m not faulting management, they do a good job. But Hudson is a great addition and seems like a good fit. If he is doing the same good job in the beginning of August, I’d be for extending him out a couple of years.
EXTEND the O-DOG!!!!! and get ’em tomorrow.

I didn’t see the game today but most of his errors or misplayed balls have been to his backhand side. I’m wondering if he still is having a hard time going that way because that is the play he hurt his back on. Maybe he’s having a tough time mentally making that play.

RESURGENT PIERRE CAN’T SAVE DODGERS IN LOSS—–Give me a break! I’ve tried to be kind and nice to Juan because he is playing better than his usual self. However, he is still Juan Pierre and as far as I know this is a team sport. You’d think he was our savior the way the Dodgers Home Page and Rick and Charlie have been singing his praises. Who’s to say X Paul wouldn’t have done the same thing for us? He may have hit a homerun instead of a single and given us even more runs to work with. And, everone on the team can steal a base. Even Andre did it and he’s no speedster!
