Trump Is Getting Lots of Advertising These Days…

I guess that’s what happens when you own most of the world!

First it was the Miss California in the Miss USA pageant…today it was Manny’s meeting with the team at the Trump Sonesta Resort here in Miami…and Thursday it will be our Dodgers Dream Foundation Golf Tournament at Trump National in Palos Verdes (a few spots still remain if you’re a golfer by calling 323.224.1413). Everywhere I turn, Trump is there!

All trumping aside, Manny obviously spoke to the team today and while there’s tons of coverage around the country on that piece of today’s news (ESPNews is taking Joe Torre’s pregame media chat live in about 45 minutes), we of course have a game tonight here in Miami so that’s where players’ minds seem to be focused at the moment.

Same lineup as the last couple nights…with Stults on the mound this time. And with Eric Milton moving into the rotation, we’ll have four lefties starting consecutively for the Dodgers for the first time since 1986 (thanks Dave Smith at retrosheet for that fast fact).

That’s about it for now here at sunny Land Shark Stadium in South Florida. Joe Torre will be the guest on the pregame show on KABC 790 with Rick Monday and he’ll also touch base with Steve Lyons and Eric Collins on the KCAL broadcast right at the start of the game.

Let’s kick some Marlin butt.

How did that work out for us in 1986? Well, our overall record was 73-89. The four lefties were Valenzuela 21-11, Honeycutt 11-9, Reuss 2-6, and Dennis Powell 1-5. We also had two righty starters, maybe you remember them – Welch and Hershiser.
.
Now we have four lefties named Kershaw, Wolf, Stults, and Milton. Let me be the first to say that I’m not too crazy about this idea.

Kershaw, Wolf, Stults, and Milton
One more lefty and we’ll be wiltin’.

Kershaw, Wolf, Milton and Stultz
A combo guaranteed for great results :-{

why did they take weaver out of the roation.is he hurt or somethin?i mean all of his starts have been solid and have kept us in the game, dont understand why theyd take him out unless because of health concerns

mdavis – Good question. Some possible answers – the bullpen needs to be bolstered. Milton was the best pitcher that was throwing on the farm, and he has almost never relieved (once in the majors). Weaver could be a good long relief man, and with the starting pitching staff we currently have, we need some good long relief.
.
I’m going with the last explanation.

Enchanted – I haven’t finished reading your song yet, and I’m already LMAO!!! NSFW!!

I believe they had to add Milton to the Major league squad soon or release him and he’d been pitching really well at Albuquerque so they decided to bring him up rather than letting some other team get him.

Any word on who was taken off the 40-man to make room?

enchanted, you’re too much, dude.
.
.
Was there a roster move for Milton? I thought Weaver (gulp) did ok.

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! enchanted – the master at his finest :)

Maybe they’ll tell the truth, put Schmidt on the 60-day DL, and take him off the 40 man roster.

After looking over the roster, looks like we had an extra spot.. made available when Manny went on the “restricted” list.

ENCHANTED…You are just very creative…that was a great & funny song. Well I guess Manny will be your insperations for the upcomings lyrics…HAVE FUN!

GOOD LUCK DODGERS HAVE FUN AND ENJOY THE GAME.
I HAVE FAITH ON MARTIN & ETHIER!

Afternoon ITD boys and girls.

Enchantec, that brain just keeps on working. LOL.

Eric: LOL And 1986 was the year of the Boogie video. You have to watch out with those lefties.
.
Good luck Dodgers & Stultz!

I thought I had posted about the game on Saturday that will be on TV but we will join the game in progress. I posted it about this in my blog. So because FOX has exclusive rights between 1 & 4 Western time and the Marlins decide that because of a concert they can move the game up, we will miss part of the game.

Hello all it has been a while. As for the Manny saga, not surprised that he tested positive, it does not really bother me because more are doing things to enhance their performance than we will ever know. What bothers me most is that he was not smart to realize he would get caught..Players have been doing things to enhance their performance forever…In the 70s and 80s and probably before it was “greenies” and there are people in the HOF that partook in them. As for the meeting, short and sweet, what could you really say except sorry I let you down and hug everyone and move on. There is no way to justify it, so move on. He is still a great player and will be when he gets back.

Stults, I anxiously await for what happens when he pitches…Soft tossers are scary to watch. Good luck and lets win.

As for #9, so far he has performed admirably and I hope he continues to hit the ball. I would like to see Xman, but unless #9 gets hurt it is not going to happen.

By ramslover on May 15, 2009 1:59 PM

Crash that would be too smart to take Schmidt off the 40 man…that should have happened last year…If we take a real prospect off for Eric Milton we have bigger issues…But he is a Dodger and we root for our boys in blue….

Hey There Guys & Girls
That was quite a game yesterday imagine taking 2 out of 3 from the Phillies. Who da guess that?
Here’s another tough cookie, the Marlins- coming up.

So Manny met with the team for 10 minutes and seemed embarrassed and remorseful. For what? For taking junk, getting caught or the lie of an excuse he was going to use to try to get out of getting caught? From what was printed in the L.A. Times today Manny pretty much got caught on a technicality. He was going to try to lie his way out of things until his medical records showed the female fertility drug and that is what sealed the deal for him. He is out 50 games and some money but this is not a mistake and not something he can deny. He can be as sorry as we wants but he did this knowingly and then tried to cover it up.

I like Manny as well as the next person but I am conflicted with what to do next. Not only does it appear he was on something it also appears he was ready to lie about it. He may not be the only one doing this but he is the only superstar on the Dodgers who got caught. He is the one on which the Dodger organization and many fans devoted so much time and energy during the offseason and spring training. Right or wrong he is the one player so many felt was essential to the Dodger’s sucess this season, and now he is out for 50 games not due to injury or something beyond his control but for something he did of his own accord. I am having trouble with that.

Enchanted ~ Glad to see your time away from us was well spent! Fantastic!!!!

Did I understand the article correctly in that it said he did not test positive for the female fertility drug, as originally thought, it was only found in his medical records that it had been presribed for him, and what caused the positive test was that his testosterone level was so high that the only explanation for it was that it was caused by a synthetic substance and that DHEA, which is not banned, could not cause that much of a spike so the only explanation for it could be steroids? That is what I got out of it at least.

But he didn’t test positive for a steroid, you’d think that a drug test would detect a “steroid”.

From what they said today, the only hard evidence they could get him on was the prescription in the medical records… elevated testosterone levels themselves aren’t prohibitied (I don’t think?), but the causes of those levels ARE prohibited. But all of them aren’t detectable in MLB’s current testing methods, and they NEED a detection as hard evidence to suspend a players. They didn’t get that evidence, but the Rx was enough to book him.

I’m glad the team is doing good enough that the drama isn’t sinking my outlook. We’re gonna get past this.

GO DODGERS!!! BEAT THE FISH!!!

Bluecrew, that is what I got out of the article as well. Unless something comes out otherwise, I can only conclude he knew what he was doing and thought he could get away with it. The system that is supposed to protect his rights actually helped “convict” him and that is what most likely caught him by surprise and made him decide to just accept the suspension. I can only guess how that conversation went:

Manny: I can’t believe they don’t believe me when I told them it was for a personal health issue. Everyone has those problems these days. Just look at all the ads on TV and in the magazines.

Boras: Manny, you don’t have much a case but don’t worry. Things will be a bit uncomfortable for a while but the Dodgers and their fans are so desperate they will welcome you back with open arms.

Manny: So what should I do?

Boras: Just keep things quiet, say you are sorry and promise to keep in shape. They all thought you didn’t want to play until July anyway, right?

Manny: What about my teammates? What will they think?

Boras: Your teammates? Who are you talking about? You are the only one who matters. Don’t you read the papers or listen to the talk shows?

Manny: Scot, my teammates have been good to me. I have to tell them something.

Boras: O.K., eventually you will say you are sorry and you were only trying to keep yourself free from injury so you could help the team. They will understand.

Manny: And what about Mr. McCourt?

Boras: Who? Oh, yes I remember him. Isn’t he the one who referred to me as “the agent”? Manny, don’t worry. You will talk to him and tell him you are very sorry and you will be fine. There isn’t anything he can do about it.

Manny: O.K., Scott, I guess you know what is best.

Man, poor Andre can’t buy a break right now, but he’s made good contact both times tonight and if he keeps doing that, the hits will start falling.

I was spending time reading up on Manny just now, trying to catch up. Well the main step has been taken. The meeting will blow away a lot of tension.
That bunt in the first inning by Furcal, down the 3B line, that just curved foul, reminded me of a walk off bunt by Ron Cey, some years ago. Cey’s bunt rolled along and stopped just short of the bag. The winning run scored and nobody picked up the ball before game went off the air.
My daughter Cathy, my older daughter, was so amazed by it.
She kept starring at the ball on the TV screen as it faded away.

Northstate, I was listening to ESPN on the way to work the other day and I can’t remember who’s show it was, but someone posed the questions of how he could pass all the drug tests he did if he was doing steroids and someone on the show said that it is possible if done under the supervision of someone who knows what they’re doing that the level of steroids in a person’s system can be kept at such a level as to not be detected by the testing they currently use. Who really knows the truth? Only Manny does. I still like him and I know we all make mistakes. I also don’t think that steroids would help someone at the talent level of Manny or A-Rod to be a better hitter. I think they would still be great hitters. I think it would only help in the home run department. I think if MLB and the Players’ Union had come up with a formal policy a long time ago, none of this would be happening. I also think they’re being a bit hypocritical to investigate players who may have done them when they weren’t even testing for them and they weren’t technically banned. Not to mention, I think tax payer money is probably being used for the Congressional investigation. I can think of other ways I would like my tax dollars spent. Just my opinion.

Rats. Cody Ross – another one we let get away.

The Dodger have hit 5 fly balls to CFer Cody Ross, ex- Dodger, who just hit that 2 run HR, in 5 innings, 0ne in each inning.

Crash, can’t keep ‘em all. There was just no room for Cody at the time. Good for him.

Who would you rather have, Cody Ross or Matt Kemp?

From what I have checked about steroid testing, there are online suppliers who advertise that one can eliminate traces of steroids in as short a period as four days. They obviously advertise to the athlete audience. If you do your steroid cycles over the winter months, when presumably there is no testing, then take the medications that will eliminate traces for testing purposes, it’s entirely conceivable that you could be taking and never be discovered on standard tests. I’m also not sure whether players have to get a certain notice period before they’re tested, or whether the tests are entirely a surprise as to when they are done.

I don’t think we’ll ever hear a satisfactory explanation from Manny, and certainly not from Boras or anyone else on their team, for what actually was taken and when. Given their earlier intentions to plain lie about the situation when originally planning their appeal, why would anybody believe anything that Manny has to say now. Oh, except that he’s sorry, and that I believe. Sorry to have gotten caught.

#8 FOR BLAKE

X Paul………….WAY TO GO!!!!!!

#1 FOR XPAUL

Who would you rather have, the “X” man or Cody Ross?

lbirken ~ I’ll take “X”

From what I have read, steroid use doesn’t really make a ball player that much better but certainly can help build strength, endurance and help recover quicker from injuries and the wear and tear on the body. And I agree that MLB was remiss in creating a realistic policy about PED’s a long time ago.

Good evening, all. Congrats to X-Paul for his first of, hopefully, many dingers as a Dodger. Volgstadt was looking lights out until this inning. GO BLUE!!!!!

Why did Pierre have to get thrown out. Here a better question. Who would you rather have, the Pierre or Cody Ross?

Why did Pierre have to get thrown out. Here a better question. Who would you rather have, Pierre or Cody Ross?

E T H I E R

Congrats Paul.

Way to go Dre!!!!!!!!!!

It was amazing that JP was thrown out by such a wide margin.

Land Shark Stadium, now that name cracks me up!

Spit, as I am sure you know my question about who do you want was a little tongue in cheek. I don’t think yours is.

Land Shark Stadium – named and sponsored by the Dade County Bar Association – lawyers, not bartenders.

Yeah I know and I just had to thrown that in hahaha

Anyway, got to go. Enjoy the game, the hell with Manny and go Dodgers!

the WEAVER looked good there.

Good Evening ITD readers and writers!!!!!

I have been watching the game since the beginning pretty much. It wasn’t so exciting until this 5th inning. Great job Casey and Xavier. Way to go X. Paul in getting your first mlb HR. …………and Andre, way to get that 28th RBI.

GO DODGERS!!!!!!

bluecrewgirl – nothing wrong with how Andre’s been hitting the ball tonight. All good contact, and like you said, they will fall………………just a matter of time. Nice Sac Fly however.

I’d rather have Manny work out at Dodger Stadium.

Hi Nelly, and seesky too. Yeah, he’s looks like he’s turning the corner and rounding the curve to a hot streak. I was thinking that it seems like it was around the time he went back to the clean shaven look that his slump started. I’m not superstitious, but maybe he should go back to the five o’clock shadow look again, lol.

Bags are jammed. We need to take advantage of the Fish’s giving nature.

WTG, JuanP!!!!!

P I E R R E
can’t make a mistake with that name.

lol Pierre being clutch I still take Paul over him.

LOL!!! bluecrewgirl – I figure I am good with whatever makes him hit the ball, but he I remember his slump starting after he shaved too :)

GO DODGERS – it looks like it will be a battle of the bullpens now.

Shad ~ I’ll take Paul too………he may have hit the ball, out of the park!

Let’s have a Friday night Fish fry!!!!!

……………and the flask, of course, seesky!!!

Let’s go Leach

Let’s see, it’s white with fish, right???

Yes, it is white with fish.

Good job for the resin bag LEACH

Bellisario did his job. Crank it up, offense!!!!

That was a terrible call on strike 3 for Andre. No way that was a strike. Eric and Steve thought that it was a bs call too.

…and so did Andre, and he let the ump know it too – GO ANDRE!!!

Nice hustle, Matty!!!!!

Com’on Guys HOLD THEM.

Oh god not a lead off walk you just asking for trouble.

Here come Wade

LET’S GO WADE

Let’s go Cory!!!!!!

No way Uggla didn’t get hit nice called.

Anybody know the attendance there tonight? I can’t get used to there not being any fans there.

Our BP is something else :-{ !!!

NellyJune ~ somebody said there are 10 fans there! lol

In Florida, the fans, oftentimes, come disguised as empty seats.

Come on Wade one more.

LOL!!!!! ………….it sounds like ten

That look like a strike to me on that 3-1 pitch

Come on, Wade. It’s too early for the flask!!!!!

WHAT A SET UP.

Whew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can hear every word those Marlin fans say.

Wow where did that rain come from?

Is raining hard out there.

What did Dan Uggla do to get ejected? Watching on mobile Gameday, and it doesn’t say why. Must be real interesting for him to get kicked out coming back from in between innings

Rain delay.

I don’t know if anybody could look this up.
But one time the fastest covering of an infield was performed buy the crew at Ebbet’s Field.

FLORIDA MANAGER FREDI GONZALEZ WAS EJECTED BY FIRST BASE UMPIRE ED RAPUANO IN THE BOTTOM OF THE EIGHTH INNING FOR ARGUING A SWINGING STRIKE CALLED ON DAN UGGLA.

He was still mad because they overturned that hit by pitch called.

Thanks Shad

For giving the finger or his hand to the first base ump.
He didn’t like a strike being called when the ball hit him as he tried to bunt it.

Who got thrown out Gonzales or Uggla?

I don’t think Uggla got ejected

FLORIDA MANAGER FREDI GONZALEZ AND SECOND BASEMAN DAN UGGLA WERE EJECTED BY FIRST BASE UMPIRE ED RAPUANO IN THE BOTTOM OF THE EIGHTH INNING FOR ARGUING A SWINGING STRIKE CALLED ON UGGLA.

n/m stupid espn.com

Thank You Spit10

I just saw a story on the Texas Rangers that highlighted the Curacao Cow. He said he just got back to the basics and really reflected on the upcoming season coming into this year. Too bad last spring he got back to the drive thru and reflected on the finer points of a Twinkie. Can you tell I’m still a little bitter? :)

YW old and north

Wow that rain gone away so fast lol

Piano Man – he hit his 4th HR tonight too. Unbelieveable!!!!

Perumike ~ A little bitter! lol Dodgereric came up with a sign for sarcastic…………:-{ It works for me!

I hope Furcal can get his average to around .290 something tell me Furcal is playing hurt.

I bet they have more people watching this game at some of the local sports bars in Miami than they do at the Marlin’s stadium right now. That’s crazy.

Cow is awsome :-{

Thanks tru! I’ll remember that! :) I can think of another sign I’d like to give to the Cow.

LMAO, Pianoman!!!!!!

Andre rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YEAH ANDRE!!!!!!!!!!!! RBI #29

EITHIER’s found a new way to knock them in.

I love the Let’s Go Dodgers chant on the road.

I think you’ll find what The Cow went back to is steroids. All through winter ball he was just as pathetic as he was last year then magically, he was better.

Coincidence he’s a Boras client? I think not.

LE’S GO DODGERS……….LET’S GO DODGERS!!!!!!!!!!!

Let’s hope BROXTON is wearing his “Closer’s Mentality” cap.

I’m so happy for him after being robbed on that ball he smoked and that questionable strike 3 call.

heeerrrrrrrrrres Johnny!!!!!

Now we know what to bring up if we want enchanted to come out of hiding……………………”cow”

bluecrewgirl – As for Andre……….a big sigh of relief is more like it. At least that is how I felt.

NellyJune ~ Gardengnome would get Enchanted out too!

Sorry people. I’ve tried nice.

It doesn’t work for me.

Oh god here we go again

We’re talking about the Curacao Cow, AKA Curacao Kaka?

Enchanted ~ I don’t want NICE!!!!

Nice timing enchanted

enchanted – we like you just the way you are…………the more bombastic, the better I say :)

KAKA’S the perfect word, Bear!!!!

C’mon Brox, COFFEE IS FOR CLOSERS!!!

J Broxton relieved C Wade. 6 4
E Bonifacio grounded out to first. 6 4
Florida’s E Bonifacio ejected by E Rapuano in the 9th. 6 4
C Coghlan walked. 6 4
H Ramirez walked, C Coghlan to second.

sigh another ejected

Come on DP now I can’t watch no more.

Damn could be a dp sigh

Damn I thought that was gone.

Way to go DODGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What does Johnny say?

Fu-Que,yall!!!!! And where’s the flask, seesky!!!!!

Yes, great game! Glad to see Casey and Xman go deep!!! Let’s get Xman in left to see what he can do!! I think Juan is tired, needs one of those days off. Juan has played well, but I’d like to see what Xavier can do.

AFTER ALL IS SAID AND…………. DONE.

Three games in a row on the road. They are proving that they are the Dodgers and not the Mannys. Fantastic!!!!!!!

Good job seesky!!!!!

The MANNYLESSDODGERS are doing alright for themselves.

Whew that deserves a shot of tequila. Way to Go dodgers, thanks for the panic attack wade and broxton! Im glad they all met with Manny today. Its a Good thing!

Fu-Q Y’all !!!

Sorry. Was I late???

Enchanted ~ Better late than never!!!

A friend of mine called during the bottom of the ninth and I was trying to pay attention to her and the game. That was a close call. They are getting on a roll now.

Only one more win for a very successful road trip. I’ll take 4-2 any day!!!!!

You got that right seesky!!!!

We are on a roll, Baby!!!
Now let’s see what Milton can do.
Then it’s time for Kershaw to contribute something.

Manny Who???

messagebear – these last two wins were huge because they came through as a team to win…….hitting, pitching and defense were all factors in these last two wins, with some luck, but they never gave up and that is just wonderful.

Stock up on the palliative of your choice. Many nights, it’s going to be a rough ride with this bullpen. And, if the starters don’t start carrying more of the load soon, an already questionable bullpen will be just that much worse.

Since Nelly was asking what’s the attendance was tonight so here it is on espn 20,039 (52% full) – % is based on regular season capacity.

Mets just tied it up 5-5 on a Wright 2 runs double.

Nelly, I absolutely agree that these wins have been huge. This was the road trip where we needed to prove what we’re made of. I would have settled for a 3-3 split, and we’ve locked up at least that with a real gutsy team effort. This team seems really on the verge of being great, and sans Manny we don’t really have a proven star – that’s what makes it a great team.

NellyJune and MessageBear ~ APPLAUSE, APPLAUSE!!!!!

oops make that 6-6

Go Mets!!!!! Beat thost gnats!!!!

messagebear – it’s looking to be an exciting year, with and/or without Manny. Pitching is still a little leary, but so far so good for the most part.

I can’t believe the Mets had Wright at 3rd bases with no out and didn’t take the lead.

Brian Wilson hasn’t been the same pitcher since he had his Casey Blake melt down.

Guess Brian Wilson hasn’t been pickup good vibrations lately. God only knows why….

….and he is not having fun, fun, fun either.

It’s mind-blowing to me that the D-Backs are 11 1/2 games back on May 15. Oh, and Brian Wilson picks up the loss and is pulled in the 9th before the side is out. Brain, don’t worry baby! You’re a Gnat. We’d despise you even if you hadn’t gotten your panties in a snit…whatever that means?????

It was the dbacks we were supposed to be fighting all season for first place. It just goes to show us that it may look great on paper but until the game is played, anything is possible.

enchanted – just for you: Andruw is batting .297 right now. He went 1 for 4 tonight, which he hit was a homerun. He has 4 now, and he has 11 RBIs, three of which he got tonight with his homerun.

“I try to stay ready in case something happens. I never would have guessed this would happen,” said Pierre, who is hitting .424 with six runs and six runs batted in in eight starts since Ramirez was suspended 50 games for violating baseball’s drug policy . “Right now I’m getting the opportunity to play. I’m grateful for it and I’m trying to make the most of it.”

Keep it going Juan. I give you lots of junk but happy for you and the team..Best record! No time for hate.

I wonder where Manny will finish his career. As bizarre as it seems, he could finish his career as a Dodger.

jungar, every team needs a Juan Pierre, someone the fans can belittle when times are bad. Pierre got the biggest break of his twilight career and he’s seizing the moment. I read where Repko f**ked up his left hammy again, the same one that cost him a year. He’ll fade into oblivion now…or resurface somewhere else like Jayson Werth.

Good morning ITD, Dodger Faithful

Nothing quite like that classic Ike and Tina. I’m from El Segundo and I’ve always regretted I passed on the many chances to see them.
Very much agree the starters need to get deeper into the game. We’ve got Weaver in the pen now and that’s a help, but we need more than 5 or 6 from whoever starts. Like it was also pointed out, this is going to be an adventure with this bullpen. I was bragging on Brox the other day at work, turned on gameday just in time for him to give up the hit with the runs that tied the game in Philly. Two, count ‘em, two walks last night. YIKES!!!!!
