BCG you mentioned that you agreed with Nelly & my comments. Well I haven’t made any. That was Eric I think. The funny thing was I read what Torre said last night and was like “OH NO!”. So my thoughts mirrored theirs and I guess got on here!!! LOL!

I pretty much agree with what was said last night & this morning.
.
The team has better players than Pierre & that isn’t his fault. But he did have some things that were said that showed he wasn’t happy with his role and his actions seem that I’ve seen to mirror that in terms of his interaction with his teammates. Now I’m not there in the dugout all the time but what I’ve seen has looked this way.

Giving a guy off every now & then is okay but not necessary for young dudes to get a day off a week.

It’s not Pierre bashing to state these things and they probably wouldn’t of even been said but the quotes in last nights article from Torre is what prompted them.

With three reserves in the starting lineup, the Dodgers will send Clayton Kershaw to the mound seeking the second series sweep over the Rockies in a little more than a week. Instructions to Kershaw will be simple.
“You just can’t walk people here,” pitching coach Rick Honeycutt said. “You saw it last night [15 walks]. You saw it tonight with James McDonald [four walks, three of them scoring]. Their [Colorado’s] guys do it, too. It just makes your life miserable. You saw what [Ramon] Troncoso did tonight. He just attacked the strike zone.”
Kershaw said he knows the drill from last year, when he started twice at Coors Field. The first time, July 22, he walked three in three innings and gave up five runs on 10 hits in a 10-1 loss. He returned Sept. 13 with two walks in six innings, allowing one run in a 5-1 win.
“[Randy] Wolf was talking about it the other day,” Kershaw said. “People get psyched by Coors Field and they start to nibble and that’s when you walk people and they score runs. You have to be more aggressive here than other places. If they’re going to hit it, they’re going to hit it. But walks will kill you. They’ll kill you anywhere, but even more here.”

Coors field is like playing slow pitch softball. The walks and extra outs are killers.
Kershaw seemed to get too shaken up after giving up the home run, but he’s young. He’ll learn.

Hey Wally! How the hell are you? Just got a little nostalgic. For any new readers out there, I wrote it for when pop (I think lower-case works better for your new acronym, jhall) was continually taking at-bats from Ethier last year. Thank goodness that’s not the case any more!

I’m sure glad Torre is resting them today and not tomorrow. I would be bummed to see that lineup out there tomorrow as opposed to our regular lineup.
I’ll do the dog but the beer I have a hard time paying $10 for on a cold night. A hot day & I’ll be the sucker but not on a cold night.

Oh well, 3 and 3 so far on the road trip. .500 on the road is OK. We need to win this series against the G’Nats. Go home with a nice 5 and 4, 9 game road trip. Not bad. I think we mailed it in today. I’m not with the club everyday (dammit) so I am not in touch with the dynamic of the team as JoJo is. For now, I guess we just have to trust his judgement.
The guy did not go to NY and win 4 WS because he is just lucky. Perhaps he knows what he is doing and not just playing with his Ned!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So for today the shoe is on the other foot. We’ve been getting by so far, but I do not think anybody can be satisfied with the pitching. Maybe Wade will be back in a day or two, but the pen could also use MacDonald. We know the deal on Kershaw, so he’s going back out there every five days, and Stults has already had his two good starts for the year. We can thank our lucky stars Billz is holding his own.
We’re not going to be able to go outside the organization and get a pitcher this time of the year without overpaying, so like it or not I think Weaver is the answer. I had started to rethink that last night after Troncoso’s tremendous performance, But Kershaw’s outing makes me think we need another solid starter.
I’m assuming that Peavy is still out there and available. At this point, do you think that offering up Kershaw and DeWitt would swing the deal, and would anybody be willing to make it? If we could count on Peavy for the longer term, like locking him in for four to five years, I would think about it real hard. To be radical about it, I might even throw in Martin instead of DeWitt.
Good Evening ITD readers and writers!!!! I know I am late, but I was traveling back up north after another wonderful weekend in Southern California 🙂 and I just had to stop in and say……………………………good job getting the song in there Dodgereric. On the way home, I got to listen to the Dodger game, and I am glad I lost reception because it really wasn’t worth listening to at that point anyway. Then I found NASCAR, and that was going well until I got past Bakersfield, and then it was my husband’s turn to listen to the gnat/dbacks game. Dodgers lost while still in the car, got home and found out Denny went from 1st to 21st somehow (yes, I know why now…………..thank you very much, and I will owe an apology to Dodgereric and my NASCAR buddy at school for Denny being the cause of the last crash, who managed to knock Jimmie back to 30th :(……………….I don’t know who to be more worried about, Dodgereric or Andres? Andres I will see first thing in the morning, Dodgereric………….not for a couple of weeks. However, I am sure he was screaming at his TV when it happened – LOL!!! Then, my husband was pretty happy because the gnats were winning 4-1 going into the bottom of the 9th and Wilson blows the lead for Cain once again and they lose, which I see that as a good thing.
As for the Dodger game………………….it felt like it was a throw away game from the get go, and I don’t think that should be happening to our young pitchers, IMO. They need the best offense and defense out there, if at all possible.
Dunno bear. That’s pretty steep.
The heck with Peavy just signed Martinez.
Every Sunday, I sit down and update the outfielders stats, especially Andre’s in case there is cause for defending them. This still is the most intriguing stat to me, and he is proving himself to be one of the most disciplined batters in the entire league.
TPA – 87 (2nd on the team and tied for 2nd in the NL)
NP – 384 (1st on the team and 1st in the NL) …..means one of the most disciplined batters in the league with an average of 4.41 pitches per AB…..a very overlooked stat IMO because stats like these are what gets opposing teams to go to their bullpens earlier in the game. For instance, just on the Dodgers alone, Kemp is 2nd in this category with 335 pitches. That is 49 more pitches Andre sees than than Matt who is 2nd in this category. In the NL, David Wright is 2nd with 346, which is 38 less than Andre. Just so you know, he is 2nd in the entire league behind Lind (Toronto) who has 418 with 88 TPA.
Well, that 12-inning game the gnats had today, hopefully will work nicely to our advantage. Pitching wise, we are looking at Zito, Sanchez and then Lincecum and we have Wolf, Billz and Stults, so on paper, Monday and Tuesday should be no problem, and with how Eric has been pitching, he will definitely keep us in the game on Wednesday. To be honest, I was a little frustrated for their closer to lose the win for Cain. He sooooo deserved that win (he as a pitcher, not as a gnat). I just know from our own Dodger pitchers how that must feel.

messagebear, I’m not really interested in Peavy…….at all. I know it’s early and stats are just stats, but…….he’s under .500 (2-3) with an ERA near 6…and this on a team that’s winning. Still not convinced he’s not dinged…DL last season, torqued pitching motion, lots of sliders, etc. etc. Why else would the Pods want to deal him? Contract? I don’t believe it. Kershaw is the real deal…just VERY young. Before we trade the house for Peavy or Halladay, I hope the Dodgers just ride their horses into June. See what shakes. maybe Schmidt, Weaver or Milton has something, anything, left in the tank.
Now for Uncle Joe. There’s no way he knew Kershaw was gonna tank yesterday, so why in hell would he rest THREE starters? Wouldn’t one at a time make more sense? Again, I know it’s hindsight, but really, removing both your lead-off hitter and #1 masher at the same time is senile. How does Joe know Kershaw wouldn’t have pitched a better game with a couple 1st-inning runs on the board…or that the Rockies might not have gripped the bats tighter if they fell behind early looking at a sweep? Joe knows (or has forgotten) more about this f**king game than I’ll ever know ( to paraphrase Bobby Knight) but his line-up yesterday was a real disappointment.
Certainly agree with you that resting three of your starters all at the same time doesn’t make much sense at any time. You could do that one player at a time without creating such an impact. Sounds like a lot of BS to me that these professional players need a rest for a day game after a night game. If that’s the case, they surely would not have survived in Ernie Banks’ days.
I’m leaving later than I’d hoped but due to work issues (BLECH!!!!) I’m off to the stadium now for the game!

Sandy Koufax in 1964 (Sporting News National League Pitcher of the Year, 19-5, 1.74 ERA, 223 SO – only 29 games) gave up 4 earned runs in 4 innings May 14.

I have to agree with Kahli – no need, especially in this division that we can’t ride out the starting pitching until the end of June, maybe July. There’s a lot of hard miles on Peavy’s arm and his pricetag in players would end up costing more than the $48 mil they gave Schmidt. If the Puds were to hand Peavy over like we got Manny last year, I’m all for it, but there’s still a card or two out there that can be played (Pedro, Byrd, hell maybe even Schmidt) in the meantime that I wouldn’t want to mortgage the house yet.
I also have the same issue with resting three starters on the same day. Joe has his lucid moments, like leaving Troncoso in the other night to finish the game, but then he turns around and does some real stupid ****. I have a little different take on it though in that having three starters out affected Kersh psychologically to where he knew the runs probably weren’t going to be there and he tried to be too perfect with his pitches, tensed up and that was the game. You’re gonna rest three starters, rest them with Wolf on the mound.

I missed the entire game yesterday as a NY transit Museum trip ended pretty late.
I spent the day walking off the beaten subway track around LIC, Astoria and Corona. But a funny thing happened WHILE RIDING THE 7 TRAIN, I SPOTTED TWO DODGER FANS FROM LA, WEARING LA DODGER CAPS and started a conversation with them about the Dodgers. It was a great talk but I never thought of asking them if they used this Website. They never brought it up either.
If you’re out there GIVE ME A SHOUT.

I would hope Kershaw has more to think about when it is his turn to pitch than who is in the Dodger lineup that game. He is a young pitcher with a lot of upside and he is going to have games like this. Pitchers with a lot more experience than Kersh have suffered whiplash pitching in Coors watching baseballs fly all over the place.
As for Joe’s method of resting players, I would rather see him rest a couple guys at the same time one game a week than spread off days over a few games. I want the best players in the lineup as much as possible so I am willing to sacrafice that one game a week if necessary if doing so helps the player and the team.
