The newest Dodger blog…

Welcome Eric Collins and Steve Lyons, who joined the blogosphere with Eric’s first post following tonight’s game.

It was a tough loss…and a good battle, but as Eric points out, he’ll surely remember his first Dodger TV game forever.

Stop by and drop them a comment and hopefully, you all can wish Eric well in his new role alongside Steve. This is just one way that our broadcasts can become more interactive and we expect that they’ll be updating the blog frequently.

UPDATE:

Furcal, SS

Hudson, 2B

Manny, LF

Ethier, RF

Loney, 1B

Martin, C

Kemp, CF

Eric welcome! Well we lost last night, but don’t worry it will get better. I hope you had an enjoyable 1st day.
    *
Good morning ITD…I didn’t get to see last night games…boo hoo. It seems that the Dodgers did not want to loose…they were coming back. Tough game. Better luck for tonights game (which most likely I will NOT see again…boohooo).
    *
So is anyone attending Ethiers Carne Asada on the 2nd?

  2. trublu4ever

Good morning ITDland ~ We will have a great game tonight and the Dodgers will begin another winning streak. GO DODGERS!!!!!!!!! DODGER BLUE THROUGH & THROUGH!

  3. scott_in_arcadia

I like the tone of Eric’s voice ok, but Steve Lyons was whining about Kershaw after 2 pitches. The kids’s 21!!! Shut up already Steve!

  4. nellyjune

Dodgereric/Ward Dear – I lost a post somewhere in cyberspace again. However, this time the recent comments section says it’s there, but it’s not there, meaning I don’t see it – LOL!!! Anyhow to paraphrase my response to your post last night………………..I fell asleep while watching a movie when I should have been cleaning and doing school work to get ahead since we have another busy weekend coming up and won’t be in town – LOL!!!!

Also, yes you made perfect sense to me
Yes, I have met Steve Garvey before, but it would have been fun for the others to meet him seeing how Matt was there too 🙂

DC! How did you find me?! I did not know I came out in that picture! Yep! I am the one in the blue dress, to my left are my friends Erik, Lore, Robyn and Chuck who comes out in the movie. I only come out toward the end cheering during the Phillie playoff game and standing in the back of Jeff Kent during the WIN baseball clinic. oh and during the rally.

Emma great picture! First thing that came to my mind was:
    DODGER WITH THE BLUE DRESS
    BLUE DRESS
    BLUE DRESS
DODGER WITH THE BLUE DRESS ON
(Just singing it to the “Devil with the Blue Dress On” beat.) But yeah you are nooooo Devil. How was the movie? Ethier was lookin good (like always) at the premier.

  8. kpookiemon

Yeah, Collins was little nervous last night. Called the Astros the Giants once, and a couple other little gaffs which escape me right now. No big deal. I thought Lyons was a bit wordy for a color man, but he’s crazy, anyway, so at least he shakes the rafters a bit. On paper the Dodgers blew it against Valverde, but all they really had was an error on a bunt, a come backer off the pitcher’s ankle, and a walk. Still, Russell Martin needs to bat 8th. It’s not like Casey Blake is tearing it up in the 8 hole, anyway. Shake it up, Uncle Joe. And get Kemp into a position (5th???, 6th???) where a guy with power, who’s hit in every single game, will do the Dodgers some good.

  9. crzblue2

    D4,
Yes! It was a blast! What a way to end our Saturday!
    .
MsRussethier, LOL. I like the song Devil with the Blue dress on! The movie was great! Ethier, Kemp, Loney, Kershaw & Billz looked great at the premiere! Also our Dodger ambassador guys that were dressed in old uniforms. When I get a chance I will post pictures. I highly recomend it for any Dodger fan. Here is part of the email that Tim sent me:

“”…..I know you will appreciate everything the movie says about how great it is to be a Dodger fan. And there is talk of cutting together other scenes for use on television and additional programming …..”

I can’t wait to buy it.

  11. crzblue2

I think they do this voting too early. I like to vote for the best players and the sample is too small right now.
    Emma

  12. colliethec

From one Collins to another, welcome to the Dodgers big league booth Eric.
    .
Emma – I thought that looked like you! I always look at the daily photo’s. I like Jon SooHoo’s photo’s. I would love to learn to do what he does. I’m glad you had fun and are now a movie star!!
    .
Hopefully they’ll start a new streak tonight!

I agree Emma with regards to the voting. We are just into the 3rd week of the season and time for Allstar voting?
    .
I’ll start on that in another month.
    .
I want to make sure I vote for the best players for the NL that way we get 4 home games this year in the series!!!!!

  14. crzblue2

I was taking a survey at Dodger Stadium and they asked me “when do you leave the game?” I said “Until I finish singing I Love L.A”.

  15. messagebear@msn.com

I agree with kahli that Kemp is misplaced at seventh in the batting order. He should be moved up to number five, at least for as long as he’s producing at the current level of effectiveness. The batting order shouldn’t be written in stone, but should be adjustable to allow the hot hitters to get an extra at bat per game.

    GO DODGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. shad78

I hate when we have our 1st 2 batters and can’t do anything not even a double steal but I doubt they would walk Manny ibb in the first inning.

  18. Dodger4life

I’m getting to the age where I dont see a whole lot Joe 🙂
    .
Andre with the double thats a start, keep getting the outs Wolfy!!!!
    .
    GO DODGERS!!!!!

  19. bluecrewgirl

Wolf is not looking too good right now. I really don’t want to see them lose 2 in a row. They seem really flat again tonight like they did last night.

  20. oldbrooklynfan

Looks like Wolf had his first inning this time in the fourth.
That looked like quite a long shot to center field by Hunter Pence.

  21. Dodger4life

    LETS GO DODGERS, LETS GO

    LETS GO DODGERS, LETS GO
    .

  22. Dodger4life

Casey is good in front of the pitcher backing up the order. I like him where he is at 🙂
    .
Way to Go Boy’s, Bring it home!!!!
    .
    GO DODGERS!!!!!!!!

  23. bluecrewgirl

I’m surprised to see Wolf back in there. He didn’t look like he had anything left last inning and he gives up a leadoff hit as I’m typing. I hope Joe pulls the trigger fast if he gives up anything else.

  24. oldbrooklynfan

Looks like Manny didn’t think those to strikes were high enough to be called strikes, that was the maddest I’ve seen him, so far.

  25. bluecrewgirl

He was mad oldbrooklynfan. I don’t think Wolf was too happy with a few non-calls in the last 1/2 inning either and I don’t blame him. There was one pitch in particular that looked like a perfect strike. Steve Lyons commented on it.

  26. nellyjune

I think the key really is for me not to watch the game on television. I had to leave to run errands, but before I did, I saw the first 5 batters, with both Andre and James leaving 2 men on base. Then throughout my errand running, I am checking the score…………………Andre Ethier doubles, Manny hits solo homerun, Andre hits solo homerun, Casey hits 2-run homerun, Andre singles, James hits double and scores Andre. Andre is a triple away for the cycle for the first time this year, after the same thing happening twice at the end of last year. He may have a chance to do it, depending on how the top of the order does. GO DODGERS!!!!!!

  27. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

Once again, the Dodger Shock and Awe strikes again!!!!! A great feeling to know we’re not out of many games. It’s a weird feeling but I’ll try to get used to it .LOL!!!! ….. damn Berkman!!!!!! We’ll just have to do it again!!! GO DODGERS!!!!!

  28. nellyjune

I think perhaps I should go on another errand – LOL!!!!! GO DODGERS!!!!! Actually, I am not technically watching the game on television at the moment, but I just got an update saying we are tied.

  29. bluecrewgirl

Our bullpen is not looking good without Wade and a healthy Kuo to set up Brox. I hope we can somehow pull this one out. I really don’t want to see them lose 2 in a row.

  30. Dodger4life

    LETS GO DODGERS, LETS GO
    .
    LETS GO DODGERS, LETS GO
    .
    LETS GO DODGERS, LETS GO
    .
    GO DODGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  31. nellyjune

bluecrewgirl – especially with the way they are hitting….this shouldn’t be happened, but it’s what most of us were worried about. We should be able to win a game where we score 5 runs.

  32. bluecrewgirl

I agree, Nelly, frustrating. We score enough runs to win and they can’t hold it. I hope Raffy can get on base!

  33. koufax1963

This was really disappointing. I go back to the first inning with runners on 1st and 2nd, no outs and Manyy, Dre and James could not put hit up or even a fly ball to score. Would have sent a message early. Go get them tomorrow Blue Boys

  34. jhallwally

Yep Nelly, me too!!! That’s right Shad. Leaving runners at 3rd with less than 2 out is beyond unacceptable. It is darn near unforgiveable. It most always will come back to bite you..

  35. oldbrooklynfan

Another tough loss on the road, they have to keep trying and not lose heart, which I don’t think they will.
It’s a good offensive team, they just have to hit more with runners on and in scoring position.

  36. Dodger4life

I’m missing our Monkey Whiskers, Get Well!!!
    .
The ball was flying out of the park, Wolf kept us in it. Tough loss tonight.
    .
Matt Kemp what a great run. The next one starts now.
    .
We are on the road so….You gotta fight for your right to party!!!!!
    .
    Get Em Tomorrow Boy’s!!!
    .
    GO DODGERS!!!!
BRING THE RING TO L.A. IN 2009!!!!!!!

  37. bluecrewgirl

Hey, jhall. I agree it’s unacceptable. Wade was such solid gold for us last year. I hope he’s back soon. We should have resigned Beimel too. I still don’t get that decision.

I said last night that Collins had a great broadcasting voice but a bit boring. He was much better in that department tonight. Maybe he just needs to relax a bit.

  38. jhallwally

Bullpen’s gonna have to get it together or we are going to endure alot of disappointing and frustrating losses.

  39. bluecrewgirl

Nelly, the thing that I really don’t get is that it’s not like they were in a bidding war to keep him and lost. They barely made a whimper of an attempt to resign him.

  40. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

Irony: this year, the strength and weakness of our offense and bullpen have been turned on their proverbial heads.

  41. nellyjune

….is that true or what seesky? Did you bring your flask tonight?

bluecrewgirl – it is a very strange. However, I just got the feeling Joe didn’t like him too much, did you?

  42. koufax1963

I think I would of put Ohman in. But this post speculation is unresolvable, Im just frustrated, time for a shot and a beer

  43. mdavis1892@yahoo.com

why didn’t they put kuo in.is he really that hurt.the man was a dominant set up guy last year,i understand going with bellisario cause so far he’s been the most impressive releiver but if kuo could go i dont see why they didn’t put him in.give him the chance to hold the lead,he did it so well last year.tough loss, hopefully the bullpen can get healthy and more on top of their game.lets avoid the sweep, bills should be lights out tomorrow.at least i hope

  44. jhallwally

I’m a bit baffled!! I really thought JoJo the clown was going to bring Kuo in. Seemed like a better option to me.

  45. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

    A comiseration round for ITD. !@#$ (drink), $%^& (drink), &*() (drink)……………….

  46. bluecrewgirl

Yes, Nelly I got that impression too. Maybe he just didn’t get his sarcastic sense of humor. I thought the guy was hilarious.

  47. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

You’ve got to bring in your key late-inning guys like Kuo in those situations. Why wasn’t Ohman or Kuo pitching to Berkman?

  48. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

    …………!@##$ (drink, drink), $%^& (drink, drink), ()_* (drink, drink),………….

  49. shad78

Get the split out. I think Kuo struggling against right handed batter and Ohman is a lefty speicalist but do you really want to flip Berkman batting right?

  50. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

I could be wrong but I’ve always thought that Berkman’s better power side is lefty.

  51. jhallwally

Oh well, need to get the win badly tomorrow. Salvage one game and avoid the sweep. Getting swept really bites hard!!!!

  52. bluecrewgirl

Yes, getting swept would suck. I hope they pull it out. It’s no time to panic with a long season ahead, I just hate to see them give away a game they should have won. Nelly, on a positive note, Andre’s average is up to .321 after tonight’s solid effort.

  53. trublu4ever

Well said, everyone! We REALLY do have BP issues. And, we also need a batter to pinch hit who doesn’t pop-up every time. We need someone off the bench who can hit one out………..XPaul comes to mind. Yougnomewho can’t use his so called speed if he can’t get on base!

  54. nellyjune

I did see that bluecrewgirl. That was a very positive note, not to mention a triple away from the cycle once again. It seems to take him an at-bat or two to get going, and then once he does, if he’s allowed to hit (as opposed to the 3 walks last night), he usually comes through pretty well.

  55. jhallwally

Yep Bleu, and Weak Popout Pile is down to .300 and falling fast. Andre sure put a lid on Badge!!!! LOL!!!!

  56. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

It’s not the losses but the way they occurred that is worrisome. We’ve all known that our bullpen was shaky coming into the season. At this point, we’re just going to have to hope that they get better……those numbers against RH batters are obscene, spit!!!!!

  57. jhallwally

Hey Trumom!!! Well said. I totally agree. Shad, JoJo the clown works in strange and mysterious ways. Go figure!! Geez!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  58. trublu4ever

I don’t know what JP is thinking! Perhaps he thought he could hit one out like Dre and Manny did! lol

  59. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

As I said a long time back, there aren’t enough pharmaceuticals in the world to make JP a power hitter.

  60. jhallwally

LOL Tru!!! He hit a weak popout last night pinch hitting. Speed doesn’t help when the ball is popped up. Sure wish Pile would use all that extra time he spends showing up early learning to drag a bunt like Brett Butler.

  61. shad78

I’m still upset about that 1st innings when Furcal and Hudson was on base and did they even bother pulled a double steal when Manny was up. Look like it could had happen. We surely not running no more.

  62. kpookiemon

Well…..I gotta say……..Ned’s staff is looking like, well, Ned’s staff. Never a Wolf fan, never will be, and really disappointed in him tonight. It was bad enough he immediately gave up the lead after THREE Dodger homers in the 6th (talk about letting the air out of the balloon, and of course, Mr. Timid walks the lead-off batter)…but it was his antics after getting the third out. I absolutely loathe an athlete who gives the “damn, I’m angry” routine after tanking…or shall I say choking. It’s like he’s trying to convince his team mates–or better yet, himself–that he’s better than what just went down…just an aberration, you understand. The pro’s pro, the guy who clutches up, says and does NOTHING when he fails. He tips his cap, so to speak. He knows more times than not he has succeeded and will succeed and has nothing to prove. Wolf will never be that player. Just a .500 pitcher…or worse. Sorry to be so negative. I’m sure he’s a great guy. Belisario? Not an 8th inning guy–yet. Hind sight is 20/20 but geez, is Kuo disabled? If he is, disable him. You can’t win a pennant with a porcelain pitching staff.

  63. trublu4ever

I like to be in a positon to see Brox pitch again. With the middle relief (and I say relief loosely) having so many problems, I wonder if Brox will even pitch again!

  64. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

As I recall, Kuo was used against everybody last year regardless of what side they hit from. Exactly, kahli, if he’s hurt, then disable him. Regardless of what this year’s splits indicate, historically, you would still have Berkman hit RH in that situation. LH is definitely his better power side.

  65. bluecrewgirl

Nelly, in case you didn’t know, Andre was on KISS FM in LA this morning with Ryan Seacrest. I just finished listening to it. There’s a link to it on the front page of their website.

  66. nellyjune

Thank you bluecrewgirl!!! I wish I could listen to LA radio 🙂

We haven’t had a Johnny Says night in a while 🙂

  67. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

Bills is going to have to be our stopper tomorrow. He’s the #1 guy in the rotation.

  68. jhallwally

    ***************************************************.jpg

This one’s for our bullpen the last 2 nights!!!!!!!!!!!

  69. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

The Astros have always played us tough but Bills should salvage tomorrow’s game. Then, we go to Colorado for some arena baseball. We’ve always hit well there so it should be a good weekend.

  70. bluecrewgirl

Hey Nelly, they need to play that clip of the Tommy pep talk that Ryan played before he put Andre on the air in the clubhouse before the game tomorrow. They could use it right now.

  71. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

Good night, all!!!!! A tip of the ITD flask to Bills and a stopper-worthy performance tomorrow!!!!!!

  72. bluecrewgirl

Goodnight seesky. This time tomorrow it will be the victory flask we’re passing instead of the drowning or sorrows round.

  73. sparkleplenty_1

Nelly, I was inspired . . . found and slightly revised a song. Johnny Mathis and Deniece Williams – many apologies!
    .
TOO MUCH, TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE
    .
Guess it’s over, call it a day
Sorry that it had to end this way
    No reason to pretend
We knew it had to end like this
    This way
    .
Guess it’s over, the bullpen’s gone
Why does Joe keep them throwing on and on
    Somewhere he lost the key
    Pitchers awfully wild and free
    And it’s clear to see
    .
Too much, too little, too late to win a game with them
Too much, too little, too late to try again with them
He’s finding out something that we knew
    Was over {Oh, it was over}
    .
Too much, too little, too late to get the batters out
Too much, too little, too late, Joe, you can’t use the crowd
Too much, too little, too late, over managing again
    And it’s over (It’s over)
    .
Guess it’s over, the runs are in (Whoa, babe)
The way the pen is used is surely such a sin
Whatever chance we had, Oh no, it’s just so bad
    It’s over {It’s over}, it’s over {Oh…no…}
    .
Too much, too little, too late to get the batters out
Too much, too little, too late, Joe, you can’t use the crowd
Too much, too little, too late, we know it has to end
    And it’s over {And it’s over}, it’s over {And it’s over}
    .
Too much, too little, too late, over managing again
Too much, too little, too late, it’s something he can’t pretend
Too much, too little, too late, we know it has to end

  74. nellyjune

Well………..it’s about time somebody gave dodgereric a job to do. FABULOUS SONG SPARKLEPLENTY!!!!!!

bluecrewgirl – he did a great interview. I just listened to it again.

  75. jhallwally

Well, Goodnight and Bon Noir everyone. We’ll whip’em tomorrow!!!! Have a great evening and a better tomorrow… Catch you all down the road…..

  76. nellyjune

Good Night jhall!! It was great seeing you tonight. Have a fabulous day tomorrow yourself. Take care and God Bless !!

  77. nellyjune

Well, it would have been nice if you both got the OUTSTANDING, but I guess if the team had one, you wouldn’t have written the song 🙂 Unless, you are like enchanted and just have songs ready to go (or almost ready to go) when needed.

  78. sparkleplenty_1

I’m folding it up for the evening. Gonna catch a little Boston Legal re-run and then go to sleep. Chat with you good people tomorrow.

  79. sparkleplenty_1

Ok, a quick answer – no I don’t stockpile songs. I really need inspiration. When that happens, it seems the songs write themselves, like this one tonight.

  80. bluecrewgirl

Great job on the song, sparkleplenty! Nelly, yes he did do an excellent job. He came across very poised and he was funny too. He’s been on with Ryan at least once before.

  81. nellyjune

So, with the Carne Asada Sundays, he will be doing them all season long, right? It also sounds like he might be coming out with another review soon on his blog.

  82. bluecrewgirl

I think he’s just doing the one and Fernando Valenzuela is doing the other, but I could be wrong. It does sound like he might have another review soon. It’s been awhile since the last one.

  83. bluecrewgirl

Yeah, it would be nice to go, but I can’t afford it right now. Should be fun. I’d better sign off. I’ve been hitting the snooze every morning this week. I’ll miss most of the game tomorrow because I have a hair appt., so I hope I will hear good news when I turn on the radio on the way home. Have a great rest of the night, Nelly.

  84. nellyjune

Good night bluecrewgirl!!! Hopefully you will come home to good news. I had good news when I got home, which quickly turned to not so good news. They were losing when I left, winning when I was out, and then they lost when I got back home. Maybe the key for me is not watching them on tv. I have yet to see an Andre homerun actual happen. I always have to see it after the fact. Anyhow, have a great sleep and see you tomorrow sometime.

  85. nellyjune

I saw that game where Mulder pitched the 1.2 innings last season, and he knew the minute he threw that pitch, he was done. It was a very sad thing to watch, and I don’t know if we want to take that risk. We already have Schmidt. So, why take on a similar issue, whether the contract is small or not. I really like him, but liking him and knowing he’s going to be effective for this team right now, or even down the road is very risky. We need to focus on healthy pitchers. We have too many DL issues as it is. We don’t need to add to the pile.

However, I think they are desperate for pitching. Too much time wasted on the Manny drama and a $500,000 difference in Andre’s contract and not enough time trying to get some effective BP pitching at the least, if not one more SP.

  86. glsa

Great job guys, but you know you may not last !! Since coming onboard we haven’t won yet, so I would suggest you get real positive today and make something happen !! LOL

  87. kpookiemon

    “Woke up this morning
    With fire in my eyes
    And then realized
    Randy Wolf’s still no prize…”

Gotta say, even after my venting last night, I’m still disgusted with Wolf. His take from last night: “”We put up four runs against a really tough pitcher and we had that four-run sixth inning and I give up that lead right away. You can’t do that. It’s disappointing because that’s a win for us that I felt I let slip away.”

How many times do I have to hear that from Wolf this year? Four starts, two “darn, I blew it.”

  88. knouffbrock@frontiernet.net

I’ve always thought a good team scores 5 runs and that would be enough to win. I hate to see those home runs wasted like that. We all know this is not the pitching staff we’ll end with, but I suppose it is still to early to draw any firm conclusions yet. As I’ve said before, I’m prejudiced, but I’d like Weaver to get a shot.

  89. sparkleplenty_1

Question for all you statisticians out there . . . I’ve looked at Google, ask.com and the Astros home web page and haven’t found the answer. So, how many home runs have been hit outside of Minute Maid Park? That shot by Manny last night prompted my quest.

  90. messagebear@msn.com

I guess Lindblom is not coming to the rescue, because he’s getting lit up in the AA. The real season isn’t like Spring Training, but I don’t think Torre knows that. Should have insisted on getting some pitching in the off-season, Joe. Cruz should have been a natural addition for us, but Ned apparently can only concentrate on one thing at a time, like Manny.

  91. messagebear@msn.com

The other thing is that Joe obviously has no confidence in Kuo being the setup man. Perhaps Kuo doesn’t have any confidence either, but just how do you remedy that. I don’t think it will happen by not letting the guy pitch at all. How many days has it been now since Kuo has been in a game? If you’re not going to use him, why not send him down to at least get some regular work until he’s ready for the big club.

  92. Dodger4life

    Good morning ITD, Dodgerfaithful
    .
I like Wolf, he got us to the 7th inning with a chance to win.
Sure he could of pitched a better game. Belsiario had an off day….the wild pitch on a pitch out, come on uncalled for. As for the past, it is time to look foward and get back to winning. We have an amazing offense any way you slice it.
If the game last night went another inning, I was confident we would of scored. I am confident that Chad Billingsley will get us deep into tonight’s game and the Boy’s will back him up early with some runs. If our bullpen can keep the ball in the park late in the game we should have a big advantage, with the sticks we send up to the plate.
    .
Lets Beat The Astro’s Tonight and take a win into Colorado!!!
    .
    Happy Flight Night 🙂
    .
    GO DODGERS!!!!!!
BRING THE RING TO L. A. IN 2009!!!!!!!!

  93. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

there is absolutely no way we should be losing any series to the astros. they are just not a good team. it’s more the way that we’ve lost these games that makes it painful. i have NEVER seen a wild pitch on an IBB.. and to essentially lose the game on that.. augh =P

clearly, the offense is still a power..

the pitching has had rough spots, but overall, i think the numbers are still decent.. but then again, the majority of our games have been against the NL West. and using these last two games as a measuring stick, the NL West is pretty awful.. so i find it fortunate that many of our early games are against the west. it’ll give us time to build a lead in the division..

bills is pitching today, and i believe he will restore order. let’s get a win and be positive heading to colorado.. go blue!

  94. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

i read some quotes by joe and kuo after the game.. it is very clear that joe has little confidence in kuo right now.. and it is also clear that kuo doesn’t have confidence in himself.. he sounded understanding of joe, rather than fighting to get back out there.. i can’t wait until cory wade gets back on monday, if he’s ready.. which it sounds like he will be..

  95. shad78

How can the Phillies be this bad so far this year? My god there getting no hitby Bush through 5th innings. Bush always struggling against the Phillies in his career but he does have 6 no decision in 6 career starts.

  96. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

i know josh will post the lineup soon.. but here it is from tony jackson’s blog:

    Furcal 6
    Hudson 4
    Ramirez 7
    Ethier 9
    Martin 2
    Loney 3
    Kemp 8
    Blake 5
    Billingsley 1

  97. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

not that we worry about lineups anymore.. i always check, just to see who might have a day off.. but the lineups definitely don’t cause the stir that they used to.. which is a great thing 🙂

  98. shad78

Actually the Astros are a good team but they’re struggling to start the season and seriously you can’t judge team on a few good week. We always have trouble in Houston and the Astros has always been a good team at home the past 9 to 10 yrs. We just aren’t a good road team.

  99. sammieramirez99

Hey ITD! havnt been on the forum for a while! as for the past two games…i actually see it as a success! great run production from both games! as for the pitching it will have its ups and downs. as far as im concerned the dodgers can lose a couple more times after that eight game win streak! the main reason i came on the forum is to encourage all you dodger fans to vote for kemp, ethier, and ramirez for the outfield no matter what and maybe furcal, hudson, and martin! ultimately im voting for the whole lineup. loney and blake are long shots considering albert pujols and david wright as well as ryan howard and chipper jones but nevertheless PLEASE vote for the dodgers! I do not want to see only 1 dodger! in fact it is one of my goals to vote 25 times on different email accounts! i have like 10 and of course u can make up one so please VOTE

    VOTE KEMP

    VOTE ETHIER

    VOTE RAMIREZ

    those should be locks

    vote furcal

    vote martin

    vote hudson

    these are reachable goals

loney and blake are too far from the couple players mentioned

    VOTE VOTE VOTE

Although I’ll probably get new-threaded in a minute, please do yourself a favor and read this:
    http://vault.sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1075897/1/index.htm

I spent my lunch period reading it. It’s long, so you might want to wait until you have a few minutes. But it’s worth it. It’s from the Sports Illustrated archives, written by Robert Creamer (who wrote The Babe) in May of 1964. The subject is a 36-year-old Dodger broadcaster and how he has endeared himself to Los Angeles fans in 8 short years.

  101. nellyjune

Good Afternoon ITD readers and writers!!!

dodgereric – I will read later, as I am leaving shortly, and when you say long, I know to trust you on that!!! However, if you are posting it, I know it’s worth the read. See you later 🙂

  102. dodgereric

It’s long, but not long enough considering the subject matter. And yeah Shad, I saw that. That’s where I got the link to the Scully story.

  103. nellyjune

Thanks Shad – I will, but when Eric says it’s long, I know it’s long and I need to leave in a few. I will definitely read it, and he is pretty much certain I will. Who knows, he might even quiz me on it at some point – LOL!!! (jk)

  104. nellyjune

Gotcha!! Those spreadsheets again 🙂 I have to go and see about a new phone for Mariya, but you probably already know that 🙂

  105. kpookiemon

Torre likes to tell his team to take pitches and get into the bullpen. Gee, I wonder what opposing managers are saying right now when facing the Dodgers’ staff? Here’s what: Billingsley and Kershaw will run up the pitch count if you’re patient. Wolf won’t pitch to contact. Be patient. McDonald? Gone by the 4th or 5th. Stults? Averaging 5 innings. That means teams can avoid Broxton by feasting on the likes of Troncoso, Belisario, Kuo, Mota, Elbert and Ohman (is that REALLY our bullpen, Ned??????????, a crew with an ERA over 4.00 and that doesn’t even count inherited runners scoring). People say it’s early. Glad to hear it, Can you imagine this staff down a pennant stretch??????????

  106. messagebear@msn.com

Let’s not forget who’s doing the coaching for that noted bullpen. Honeycutt was always worthless managing the best of talent that we’ve had, what can you expect him to do with Mota – unless he learns how to give injections.

  107. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

hmm.. i lost a post somewhere..

tony jackson said he expects weaver to be up in the bullpen very soon.. 40 man spot would be cleared by moving mienkiewicz to the 60 day DL, but the 25 man spot would be cleared by??

  108. oldbrooklynfan

    Hi ITD
I like when the Dodgers are on national T.V. it gives my friends a chance to see my team.
Let’s hope Bilz is not in a hurry to give that run back.

  109. messagebear@msn.com

Why did we not use Ausmus for one game against Houston? It’s not exactly like you don’t want to break up Martin’s stride, and Ausmus might have had a good incentive against his former mates.

  110. oldbrooklynfan

Those were too good looking ABs by Ethier and Russell, they just have to stick to it. Don’t give up.
    I know they won’t.

  111. sparkleplenty_1

I thought it was kinda funny when the announcers were bantering about the possibility of Chad Billingsley possibly being related to Barbara Billingsley, who played June Cleaver. If they only knew who’s who here . . . . LOL

  112. oldbrooklynfan

I notice that, Jay Leno, look alike Lance Berkman, unlike Loney,
Likes to talk to the runners on first.

Great on the road showing for Chad Billingsley, outstanding performance. 2 runs were enough tonight. Way to battle Boy’s!!!

  118. kpookiemon

Joe Torre…killer of pitchers. If Uncle Joe and Grandpa Ned can’t figure out who the hell their set-up man is, Broxton will be on the shelf by June 1. And as long as I’m being negative, Russell Martin is going to find himself in Toronto as part of a Roy Halladay deal if he doesn’t shake his funk.

  119. carcyn@sbcglobal.net

i don’t know about you guys but Martin needs to be dropped to the 8th spot. He is no threat in the spot where he is batting. i don’t care who goes in his spot as long as he gets moved down. Kemp would be a good canidae.

  120. nellyjune

Okay- where’s is beavndeschenes? We won, and I was looking forward to the speech.

I knew y’all would take care of the “What Does Johnny Say?” …………..just classic!!

  121. trublu4ever

I was watching the game with the Astros’ announcers and they were saying that we were showing interest in Mulder and Pedro Martinez. Do you think this is true?

  122. nellyjune

Sparkleplenty – If they only knew who is on here is right. I can’t watch episodes anymore with out laughing about it.

tru – Shad posted an article about Mulder this morning.

  123. kpookiemon

I got no problem with Pedro Martinez. Groomed as a Dodger, should NEVER have been traded in the first place…and a good buddy of Manny. Invaluable teacher, ala Maddox.

  124. nellyjune

I don’t think so. I saw him leave that one game he pitched last year after thinking he made it back. He pitched great the first inning. Got through the first batter in the 2nd inning, and then something went seriously wrong with his arm, and he knew it the minute he pitched that pitch. It was very sad to watch. That is one of Jill’s all-time favorite players and she was crushed when she saw that happen. I don’t think we want to risk it. He’s one of those, yes, he’s a great guy, but can he help us this year……..probably not.

  125. trublu4ever

I think Pedro would come down in price, Kahli, which seemed to be the sticky point. I’ll bet Manny can talk him into it…….even if he doesn’t have the same stuff he used to have, he still knows how to pitch.

  126. trublu4ever

I’ll also bet, with the economy the way it is and if teams fall several games behind, they will be unloading sooner rather than later.

  127. nellyjune

The gnats this morning were talking about snatching Holliday from the A’s if the opportunity arises near a trade deadline if the A’s start unloading. The gnat fans actually think they can win the division, at least the ones calling on the radio this morning.

  128. nellyjune

Dodgereric/Ward Dear – That article was amazing!! Yes, it was long just like you said(and I am glad I waited), but also, like you said, it was well worth the read and could have been another 4 pages. I loved how he got the crowds involved at the games, especially the umpire’s birthday. That must have been something else. Would he be able to do something like that in today’s crowd? I have been around people listening, but are there as many as back then. Thanks for finding that article. I am really enjoying reading the history any chance I get 🙂

  129. Dodger4life

Yes Eric, thanks for the article, I have’nt finished it yet but it is in my fav’s and will stay there a while after I am finished reading it.

    Oh and SammieRamirez99 ~ I’m voting for the Boy’s 🙂

  131. mdavis1892@yahoo.com

great win.shows that we can have the pitching to win us games.bills is coming into form as the ace.4-0 start is fantastic.the man won 16 games after starting 0-4 last year.he’s been dialed in this season.and no question broxtons been the most impressive closer so far this year.now lets do some work on the rockies again.

oh ya,and i was doing some reading on torre in last sundays times about when he’ll retire, you guys think mattingly will take over once joe decides to go?

  132. mdavis1892@yahoo.com

trublu- thats a good point, and it may be true.but they also said the possibility of him being joe’s succesor.i wouldnt be surprised if he left, but mattingly does want to manage eventually, and when joe goes than theres a vacant manager spot in LA, where don already knows a lot of the players and his sons a dodger prospect.but really, anythings possible

  133. mdavis1892@yahoo.com

trublu- haha that’s definitely true. but i gotta say right now im just happy with dodgers winning games.im sure everyone else is too.i can’t wait to head up to chavez ravine to see them.it’s gonna be sick!

  134. dodgereric

Ev’nin’ tru, nelly and mdavis and whoever else is hangin’ around.

I’m afraid we’re stuck with Joe thru next season.

  135. trublu4ever

I saw an interesting piece on ESPN about Ng……she wants to be the first GM. Do you think she will get a shot at it?

  136. mdavis1892@yahoo.com

getting off.take it easy dodger fans.now lets watch them go and get 3 straight W’s in the rocky mounts.later fellas

  137. dodgereric

And you’re very welcome for the Scully article. Anyone who was around here in those days will love that read.

And I think you’re right, there isn’t nearly the same amount of radios in the park as there used to be.

  138. northstateblues

Hi everyone! Great win tonight, nailbiter at the end, but it seems like if we’re not winning games, we’re in ’em to the end. For some reason, this win was tougher on the nerves than Tuesday’s loss… but I’ll take the win anyday, of course!

Wouldn’t mind seeing Pedro back in blue. I wouldn’t have any illusions about him being in “prime” form, but having him in the bullpen and Manny in the dugout would go a long way towards helping the not-quite-vets buckle down in tough situations. Hell, Manny even got Torre to loosen up, we haven’t heard anything about a barber, have we?

I think if/when Joe Girardi is canned, Donnie Baseball will do a lot of soul searching about whether he’d like the chance to be the Yankees’ skipper or not. I’d prefer to have him here, and think that it might be ill-advised at this time, with all the lofty expectations the Yankees franchise brings with it (especially with the House that $1.3 Million Built) for him to take that job right now. ESPECIALLY if the Yanks’ situation gets so bad that Girardi gets canned. They’d essentially be calling him to do some mop-up action, a slop… uh, second choice for the young Steinbrenners after they decided to eschew Bronx tradition for a proven champion Manager.

For all the points that were mentioned above, it’d be a much better decision to be the manager of the Dodgers (at least for the near future). Getting grilled in the blogs is a lot different than getting grilled in the NY Times and Post every time you flinch wrong.

  139. nellyjune

You weren’t kidding about the length, not to mention the small print, but once I got into it, it was very well written and funny at points too so it went faster than I thought.

  140. northstateblues

Hi Eric! That Transistor Kid article’s a great read. I remember my family always taking a tranistor radio with us to the game. Even if we forgot, there’d be a few people in your section with ’em, so you wouldn’t miss out anyway.

Sad that it’s not that way anymore. If I remember before any games I go to, I like to take a radio w/ headphones to hear him call the game. Of course, now a lot of radios don’t even come with AM, so even that’s less of an option.

Is there a delay in the broadcast? I know up until this year, the Gameday Audio would be anywhere from 35 secs to a minute slower than a TV feed. Now, it’s about a half second faster than the TV. I know it can’t be a half second faster than the game live at the stadium (and if it is, send that radio immediately to the Dodgers’ dugout), but just curious if they still have the three second delay.

  141. northstateblues

Hi Nelly! Not done with school quite yet, about a month to go. It’s gonna get crazy busy in a week or two. But I’ve already got a heads up on what I’m doing for my last Rhetorical paper, so I’m feeling pretty good about things right now. And we even got to play with mud in my Geography lab (after eroding rocks in vinegar the week before, since the department didn’t have hydrochloric acid. Curses, foiled again!), which was interesting.

  142. dodgereric

    Hey, north!

    Pitching, pitching, pitching………..

Unless Pedro drops his price from $5 – 6 mil down to 1 or 1.5, I don’t see McCourt pulling that trigger. Earlier, Pedro was pretty emphatic about “not going to discount myself”.

Sheets would be a very tempting guy come June, depending on how his rehab goes. He’s kind of in the “Manny” catagory in that he needs to prove himself to get a good contract. He wouldn’t even cost a pick if he signs after the draft.

Jose Cruz would have sure been a nice sign.

  143. nellyjune

I remember my mom and dad listening to the games out of Las Vegas. Usually we had to sit outside to listen. Much like you were talking about the other night northstateblues. The funny thing is last night when we were cooking/grilling late, my husband put it on a AM station that was out of Seattle, and we were able to listen to the Mariners game with traffic and all after the game.

  144. nellyjune

You have been saying pitching all along. Those that are bringing up the set up guy are right. We can’t have Brox doing both.

  145. dodgereric

You know, I didn’t think about the delay. I’ll bet that’s a problem.

One of the things I liked so much about that story is Vin talking about himself. He doesn’t do that too much.

I got a little sad when they referred to his son Michael.

  146. northstateblues

Sheets would be nice, but his nagging injuries worry me, same with Mulder. Pedro’s high priced right now, but eventually that price will come down if there’s no takers (although with the Yankees’ pitching problems… hey, what’s another $6 million? Cruz would’ve been nice, but that move also would have made sense, and we know how ration took a holiday this offseason. Too bad Joe Torre couldn’t successfully shake down the FO for pitching in the offseason. Hopefully we can make this work, but if not, like was mentioned earlier, the fire sales should start early this year.

  147. northstateblues

Sometimes when I’m homesick, I’ll put the radio on KFI when I’m driving around at night. Not that a sigalert on the 605 has any effect to me locally, but it’s nice to have something familiar once in a while.

  148. nellyjune

That was sad Eric 😦 You are right. He doesn’t talk about himself much, does he? Now that I think about it, not even now. He is such a great storyteller that no matter how many times you hear the same story from him, it really doesn’t matter because it’s still a great story, and that is hard to do.

  149. dodgereric

Closing games is what wins consistantly. Brox is doing very well so far, but he can’t do it himself. I remember someone a few weeks back saying that there wasn’t anyone available to shore up the pen, and he/she had a decent point. But, and maybe I’m just stupid, but it wouldn’t have taken much to have Beimel and Cruz. They both signed elsewhere for relative peanuts and they are proven arms. Now we’re talking about looking to guys like Weaver?

Without good pitching, we’re the San Diego Chargers of the Dan Fouts era. Exciting, winning and losing games 42 – 40, and not quite good enough to win it all.

  150. nellyjune

We knew this might/would be a problem, and we are finding out it is a problem. Also, we shouldn’t have to expect our SP to go 6,7,8 innings every game either. There is going to be undue pressure on them to get it done early and possibly press too hard in order to accomplish that.

  151. nellyjune

good night northstateblues – sounds like you are having fun in your geography class. Keep up the great work!!!

  152. dodgereric

Perhaps that’s just it. I don’t have much confidence in the front office to get the job done. They’re so maddeningly inconsistent! I don’t have to rehash everything because we all know them all, but there’s been good moves and bad moves and good non-moves and bad non-moves.

I don’t remember who it was, but it was one of our best thinkers here on ITD who said, “They don’t seem to have a plan.”

  153. dodgereric

Maybe the solution is to get MLB to adopt one rule from NCAA women’s softball – the 7-inning game.

Well, I think I’ll follow north’s lead and say goodnight. God Bless!!!

  154. nellyjune

Good night Ward Dear/dodgereric!!! It very well could have been enchanted. Take care and God Bless to you and your family.

GOOD NIGHT ITD READERS AND WRITERS!!!!
    WE LOVE OUR DODGER BLUE!!!!

  155. Dodger4life

Good early morning ITD, Dodger Faithful
    .
Spit I believe Tru said it was the Dodgers toolbar, which is available through the homepage.
    .
I am up a little early this morning… well truth be told it is one of those nights when you just cant put the mind to rest.
    .
I just keep thinking about what a great start this Dodger ball club is off to and what the possibilities are this season.
Division Championship well within reach, but why stop there. Best record in the National League also well within reach, but hey why should we settle for that. Best record in baseball, now were talking. Home field advantage through the play-offs, we all want this to be a reality. Oh yeah the need to win the All-Star Game, this is where we come into play people. Imagine having Manny, Matt and Andre as the outfield, as I write this they are all deserving of the award.
    .
Imagine the team spirit and good atmosphere they can provide the NL with, not to mention the talent, but what the heck we have more talent available, so let’s assume we can get Furcal, Hudson and Loney on the team as well, three outstanding defensive players in their own right with stellar offensive abilities as well. Russell behind the plate with Bills and Kershaw throwing the heat, heck I can hear the crowd chanting BROX!! BROX!! BROX!! now.
    .
I have faith that our Boy’s in Blue wont let us down and will
continue the winning way’s. So I ask you all to do your part and VOTE them in. We want the Ravine to be Rocking in October, and it is all well within reach. We have some Awesome team chemistry happening with this club and it will spill over into the All-Star Game as well.
    .
I believe that the front office, has every intention of improving this club as the season goes along, how and when I have no clue???
    .
Whatever It Takes To Win A Championship!!! Right Now!!!
    .
There is no next year, there is this year, and this game we play today. Everyday counts the 8 game win streak was snapped and we are back to 1, working on #2… we will live with something less than 8 games this time, but 9 is well within reach. The cycle is within reach again, another hitting streak is within reach again, anything you can do once you can do again, plain and simple mind over matter.
    .
We must not let up not once, we must continue to go out and have fun, continue to stay on the positive side of the game. Continue to grab these things that are well within our reach, if we don’t I guarantee someone else will. There are a few good teams out there, but only one truly great one. I believe that team has DODGERS written across their chest!!!!!!
    .
Now lets show our DodgerPride and support.
VOTE ~ VOTE ~ VOTE ~ VOTE ~ VOTE ~ VOTE ~ VOTE and VOTE again…..WE BELIEVE IN THE MAGIC THAT IS DODGER BASEBALL!!!!!
    .
Now lets go out and take to the Rockies the whole series.
    .
Game Time ~ 6:10 PT ~ Stults against Cook
    .
Keep the Good Times Rolling Along ~ Yesterday was Shake and Bake!!! Tonight it’s Time to Rake!!!!
    .
    GO GET EM BLUE!!!!
    GO DODGERS!!!!!!
BRING THE RING TO L.A. IN 2009!!!!!
    .
    LIFE IS GOOD TODAY 🙂
    .

    .
    Enjoy your day everyone 🙂

  156. Dodger4life

One more thing before I take nap. Due to the economy and my logistics, I have’nt seen one game on the tv or web, I had the oppourtunity to listen to Vinny, Charlie and Rick once and boy what a treat that was. I get my enthuisiam from ITD and box scores, if this is the way Joe Pierre has remained a Dodgerfaithful all these years, my hat is off to him. Now pass it around and see to it that he has a front row seat to the ITD tour. I’ll pass the hat to the Front Office first. Good Day everyone, Enjoy 🙂

  157. nellyjune

Good Morning ITD readers and writers!!!!

Fabulous post Dodger4life!!! You truly are our spirit leader, and I for one, think you belong at this ITD tour as well 🙂

  158. crzblue2

    good morning all.
I can tell you that in my aisle there is about 10 of us listening to the game and keeping score. My raido has tv audio so when Vin is on I switch it to the TV. I know I will miss this come June when that TV antenna thing goes into effect.

I am so glad that Vin won the Mr.L.A. I can’t believe someone in there said they are stopping their subscription to the magazine. http://lamag.com/mrla/ Emma

NSB – The delay is from the TV not the radio. It feels a little weird when I am listening to the TV at the stadium on delay but it gives me a heads up on a play. Too bad we wont have the TV audio anymore. A friend of mine bought a replacement radio to the one he carries at the stadium and he said the new one did not have the tV audio.
