Deep in the heart of Texas

The nine-game road trip kicks off today. Here’s the lineup:

Furcal, SS

Hudson, 2B

Manny, LF

Ethier, RF (you Ethierholics are all coming to Carne Asada Sunday with Andre, right?)

Loney, 1B

Martin, C

Kemp, CF (simply on-fire)

Blake, 3B

Kershaw, P (tough act to follow after his last outing)

And by the way, in case you guys haven’t seen it yet, there’s a contest online right now where you can get season tickets for the rest of the year (at least starting after May 10, when the contest ends). It’s called Paint the Town Blue and I’d imagine those of you coming to this site are the perfect people for this.

Here’s wishing the Dodgers the best road trip ever! Keep the winning ways. LOVE THE DODGERBLUE!!!!!

  2. mdavis1892@yahoo.com

i gotta feeling the winning streak will continue tonight,or maybe its just my optimism.either way, i expect a solid outting for kershaw,i think him and bills will get a lot of wins this season with decent ERA’s and lots of K’s.and the offense should do fine putting runs on the scoreboard off of russ ortiz.staying positive and hoping the dodgers keep winning and kemp keeps his hit streak alive.and go lakers!

  3. koufax1963

Had a nice and Hot day off from Dodger ball yesterday, now I am ready to start it up again. Heres to the boys in blue and to all the faithful ITD team. Go Dodgers!

  4. Dodger4life

    LETS GO DODGERS, LETS GO!!!!
    .
Take us deep Kershaw, Bring the strikes!!!
    .
Battle in Houston Boy’s, let’s keep on having fun πŸ™‚
    .
    BEAT THE ASTRO”S!!!!!!
    .
    GO DODGERS!!!!
BRING THE RING TO L.A. IN 2009!!!!!!

  5. crzblue2

“You mean there’s a Hall of Fame somewhere that he isn’t already in?”

Eric – That was my reaction when I heard it on KABC last night.

And you all remember that contest for Mr. LA that I posted a link here and I also mentioned in my blog? Well, Mr. Vin Scully won it! He is Mr. L.A.!!” they had some names in there that people were posting a lot that they voted for and I had never heard from like…Charles Phoenix. I did not know who he was along with 4 others on the list.
    .
    Congratulations Mr. Scully!
    Emma

  6. nellyjune

dodgereric – I would’ve thought that too, so my question is “What took so long?” Thanks for sharing πŸ™‚

  7. nellyjune

Josh ~ Thanks for the information, and yes, I couldn’t definitely see some of these individuals on ITD doing this “Paint the Town Blue”. As for Carne Asada Sunday, I am assuming he is doing them every month, yes? I can’t be there for this first one. I would if I could, but it would be three weekends in a row down to So-Cal, and that would be over my limit of twice a month – LOL!!! We definitely want to go to one in the future, so please let us know after this one when the next one will be. After June 4th it’s a little easier for tru and I to come and go to So-Cal, as that is my last day of school – yeah!! As for this first one, I will be there in Ethieraholic spirit.

  8. shad78

Go Martin get that average to a respectiful .280 let’s go Kemp let get another hit to make it 14 games.

  9. colliethec

    Good evening everybody!
    .
I just got home at the top of the 1st and saw we had a great start to the game just in time to see my least favorite thing… a lead off walk. Especially after a 3 run 1st. What a surprise, the run scored.
    .
Settle down Kersh and play your game…
    .
    Go Blue!!
    .
Bring the Ring to LA in 2009!!!

  10. shad78

I forgot all about Cabrera but he’s on my other team. I really don’t like that 31 pitches Kershaw had. Let’s see if we can double Ortiz pitches count this innings.

  11. vl4ecc

Good evening all, and greetings from the Lone Star State. I may reside here now, but will always bleed Dodger Blue!
I sure hope Kershaw gets a “W” tonight.
BTW listening to these colorless Houston anouncers stinks on FSW. It would be much more enjoyable listening to Vin.

  12. colliethec

    Hey there Nelly.
    .
Other than the top of 1st, we are looking a little out of sync.
    .
I would really like to see us throw a ton of runs up on Ortiz.

  13. nellyjune

I hope the BP is well rested and ready to go. I think they are going to be needed tonight. GO DODGERS!!!

  14. nellyjune

Hey dcollins!! We are looking a little out of sync, but with this team, who knows? We know what they can do at the end of a game nowadays too.

  15. colliethec

That is correct Nelly. This year we are always in it. That is a great feeling isn’t it. I would just like to keep it going against a bad Houston team. They actually have some good players they just haven’t done well in ST or so far in this early season.

  16. vl4ecc

Just imagine the amount of HR’s the Dodgers would hit in a park this small. Shallow down both lines, & alleys. It’s only deep to straight away center…

  17. colliethec

    Not well executed…
    .
I thought that Kemp could of made a break for home. I guess better safe than sorry. Also it’s early & with this O there is no need to press at this point.

  18. vl4ecc

I hate Tejada! I wonder how many years he played ‘juiced.’ I think the whole Oakland ball club was back when he was with them.

  19. colliethec

This could be one of those even-ing out games that baseball gives us.
    .
The last game we were bummin that Kersh didn’t get the win he deserved. So now maybe we can come back and keep him from getting the loss tonight he seems to deserve thus far.

  20. colliethec

Manny may of “departed without comment” this ab but something tells me he will have something else to say tonight.

  21. colliethec

Vl4 — they just need to tell James they are in Colorado!
    .
    Typical Dre AB.
    .
    Lot’s of time left folks!
    .
Let’s go Blue!!! Keep showing us your grit!

  22. colliethec

Tough night for Kersh tonight. He seemed to me like he was rushing everything. When he walked around the mound or down the mound it was like he was anxiously walking quickly. He just seemed out of synch.

  23. northstateblues

Good to see the team not getting over confident (according to today’s LA Times article). At least some people remember the last time we had a start this good (11-2 in the-year-I’ve-mostly-forgotten), and how it ended up (71-91, which is why I forgot it. Jason Phillips’ funny running, anyone?).

Of course, we all know this year is different. We can still come back tonight.

    GO DODGERS!!!

  24. colliethec

I remember it well NSB. I was pumped & then seriously deflated. Did they say in the article that the team was reminded of it by the coaching staff? If so I was thinking that would be a good idea to do so.

  25. colliethec

This could be a tough road trip for the pitching staff. Between starting in Houston and then going to Colorado. I know they now use the humidifier but still. They might be a little worked by the time they get to here in SF.

  26. northstateblues

Hey, D-Co! I’m not sure who reminded the team, but I know the LA Times’ writer brought it up. Different mindset this year, and no obligatory stealing on Jason Phillips’ weak throwing arm.

Oh yeah, they come up to the bay soon. Hopefully lots of night games, so I can let the girl use the comp, and pick up Vin and Monday-Steiner on the staticy radio instead of listening to Kruk and Kuip snapping towels on each other and umpiring/know-it-all-ing enough to make Joe Morgan AND Cris Collinsworth blush.

  27. colliethec

NSB — I’m going to one of the games that way I don’t have to listen to them! You’re like me. I would sit in my car & listen to the night games from Bakersfield on the radio.

  28. colliethec

Nelly — They are probably sounding like the Giants are in 1st and on their way to the series. All of their players are the best… that is according to them.

  29. northstateblues

Nelly, I’m sorry 😦 . I’ve been annoying my girlfriend lately with my (terrible) Mike Krukow impression the past few weeks. I’m guessing by now she’d gladly put up with Steiner’s yelling-every-line-drive instead of listening to those jokers.

D-Co, I learned that trick last year trying to find ESPN radio on the way home from work one night. I love Gameday Audio to death, but sometimes listening to Vin just isn’t right without little pops and static in the background.

  30. colliethec

Good job Troncoso of cleaning up Mota’s mess.
    .
I’m sure Ramsfan will be happy to see Mota was in again tonight!

  31. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

Tough night for the kid. He’s young and still trying to find his level of consistency. We should see less of nights like these as the season progresses. At least, we have the offense to come back….only 1 run. Come on, Dodgers!!!! Make Astro fans go “Ruh, Row”!!!!!

  32. nellyjune

Even their fans think their the best team, and the Dodgers always suck of course. At least we admit when our team isn’t doing well. I give us all credit for that!!! We love them, but we know when they play like crap too πŸ™‚

  33. colliethec

Steiner also frustrates me. Every fly ball pop up is “hit deeeep,… hit a ton, way back… it’s sailing… and caught just shy of the warning track.” WTF!!! He get’s me every time!
    .
& the grab some pine meat. Can you imagine in saying that. I really hope those jokers don’t get into a Hall of anything.

  34. colliethec

Not to brag about myself seeing that I didn’t just hit that, but… here is my comment after they sort of popped off about Manny K’ing looking.
    .
    .
Manny may of “departed without comment” this ab but something tells me he will have something else to say tonight.
    By dcollins3073@sbcglobal.net on April 21, 2009 6:56 PM

  35. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

I’ve heard that Manny will, at times, sandbag an AB in order to make an impact later in a game.

  36. northstateblues

    That’s better, thanks Manny πŸ™‚

Steiner’s yelling can be a bit annoying, I still like him, though. Ever since he was on ESPN, wearing glasses, goatee and a sweater vest, heheheh. Not that the yelling hasn’t made me knock over a few glasses a little too close to my computer.

  37. colliethec

Yup Nelly… “Dodgers suck”! LMKO!!!! When they say that I remind them of their flags they have flying in RC field and respond in kind “yes we do”.

  38. colliethec

I’ve met Steiner and he’s a nice guy. I just wish he’d tone it down a little.
    .
I to remember him on ESPN. Remember that famous video of him laughing uncontrollably? That was pretty funny.

  39. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

My favorite Steinerism from his ESPN days was: “He’s listed as day-to-day but, then again, aren’t we all.”

  40. colliethec

Steiner has some great lines. He should use some while doing the games instead of yelling at fly balls.
    .
It’s rally time folks. Let’s get some!! A comeback here would be very sweet and really telling.

  41. obi_wen

Whose decision was it to hire Lyons and Collins as our TV announcers? They suck worse than ish thru a straw.

  42. shad78

Actually Tronocoso came in with Loretta in the double switch that took Blake out of the lineup since Mota spot was coming up 1st.

  43. colliethec

Oh well! Not tonight. The streak ends.
    .
Time to start a new one tomorrow!!
    .
It’s not like we were going to run the table anyway!
    .
    Go Blue!!!!

  44. oldbrooklynfan

    Gave it a good try,
    Exciting finish.
Manny just didn’t get enough of it.
    Everybody’s afraid of Ethier.

  45. colliethec

The nice thing is even in this loss we were all knowing that it wasn’t over. That is what has changed since last year.
    .
I think the team knows it as well.

  46. vl4ecc

It did get interesting at the end, but I guess it wasn’t meant to be extending the streak. Till tomorrow.
    Good night all.

  47. trublu4ever

I with you, D collins………..we shall, start a new streak tomorrow! DODGER BLUE THROUGH & THROUGH

  48. nellyjune

I was thinking the same thing oldbrooklynfan, but I am trying to keep my ethieraholicism under control πŸ™‚ However, 3 walks in one night makes you wonder πŸ™‚

  49. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

Another streak starts tomorrow!!! Good night, all!!! Don’t let the Gnat bugs bite!!!!!

  50. bluecrewgirl

Hey all. I was hoping they’d make a game of it at the end, but they’ll get back on it tomorrow and start a new streak. Andre was seeing a lot of junk tonight. I’m glad he just took the walks and didn’t swing at garbage pitches. He’s really learned not to try and take what’s not there.

Shad, the Lakers are looking good so far. They should take the game unless they have one of their 4th period letdowns.

  51. nellyjune

Good Night seesky!!! I am immune to the gnat bugs πŸ™‚

I think so too oldbrooklynfan, I really do, and it’s a good feeling to have.

  52. nellyjune

I am not a gnat fan (obviously), but I do like Matt Cain, and his team never plays well for him so I am hoping they can hang on and win this one for him. Not that I want any former Gnats, but if I had to pick one to get, it would be him. He would be great in our rotation.

  53. shad78

I wish we can still Lincecum away from them lol. I think Lincecum deserve much better on a good team and could been a 25+ games winner last year lol.

  54. oldbrooklynfan

One thing I’ve been doing since that great start in ’05
    …’05…..06……’07…..’08……. ’09
    12-2….6-8….10-4….6-8…..10-4

  55. colliethec

I saw that Nelly. That was a huge mistake for the Nationals to do that. You would think they would of given him a break there. Especially with trying to get fans to the ball park. They are really making mistakes there aren’t they.
    .
They are making the McCourts look pretty good!

  56. bluecrewgirl

You’d think they would have cut him some slack considering the reason he was late. That’s great that they paid his fine.

  57. nellyjune

That’s right bluecrewgirl!!! Andre likes Matt Cain very much – LOL!!!! He seems to like all Giants pitchers. He can even say that about Randy Johnson now too πŸ™‚

  58. northstateblues

What would be REALLY nice would be for the Natinals (as Adam Dunn’s jersey said over the weekend) would be for the owners to pay it forward and give the little league free tix (field level) for a game, since working class people scrounged up money to pay for Acta’s faux pas.

Of course, this is the MLB, where Baseball sues little league teams for using MLB team names (not logos, not colors, NAMES) without paying a licensing fee.

Point being: Bud Selig is a clueless, ego-blinded moron who “saves” the sport of baseball the same way Bizzaro “saves” the fake rock cities that Superman builds for him to keep Bizzaro from “saving” Metropolis.

There. I’ve said it. Now for Ice Cream!

  59. yetta@sbcglobal.net

I know it is the first night with the new announcer and Steve Lyons, but this is the most awful thing I have ever had to sit and listen to! So slow and boring. I can’t believe what I am hearing. I know no one will compare to Vinny but what was that?

  60. northstateblues

Thanks Nelly. I’m just saying. GREAT job by baseball for even letting these parents pay the fine. Or even allowing the fine in the first place.

That is why children these days grow up watching the NBA or NFL before MLB. Those two franchises are somewhat in touch with their audience (or as Mr. Krabs would say, their MONEY). Baseball, on the other hand, feels like the people who are running it, the Corporation AND the Player’s Union, are COMPLETELY out of touch with the Everyday American.

Especially with the whole offseason mess I won’t even get into. If Selig’s word is solid on that and his lack-of-knowing-about-it, he should step down just based on the fact that The Commisioner of Baseball didn’t know what was going on in HIS league.

Selig’s take on that gives me an image of Grandpa Simpson yelling at the kids leave flaming bags of poo on his doorstep as the teenagers are turning donuts in his lawn and TPing his trees. And as he comes out and takes off his belt to shake it at them… his pants fall around his ankles.

  61. bluecrewgirl

I actually kind of like Steve and Charlie together on the tv games that Vin doesn’t do. I know that Charlie makes mistakes, but at least he has personality and he and Steve are pretty funny together. That guy with Steve tonight had a nice sounding voice, but boring…..

  62. northstateblues

Thanks Eric. It’s stories like what went down with the Nats and Elijah Dukes that make me realize why 70-80% of the sports fans I know are talking about the NBA Playoffs or the NFL Draft right now. The disconnect is sickening.

Think I’ll head out for a bit. If I’m not back, Have a Good Night, everyone!

  63. nellyjune

…and here he shows up again with another fabulous post. If I didn’t know you, I would think you were an English major who is one heck of a writer πŸ™‚

  64. nellyjune

bluecrewgirl – I was watching through the eyes of the Astros announcers tonight, and they weren’t Vin, but they had so many wonderful things to say about our team, I didn’t mind listening to them. Even down to the last inning and last out, they made the mention about our lineup and saying how there is not going to be any easy outs when it comes to this lineup. It was a great thing to hear coming from an opposing team’s announcers.

  65. bluecrewgirl

Yes, it is great seeing the young guns getting so, much well-earned respect. I have very high hopes for this season. Just hope they don’t let it go to their heads ):

  66. bluecrewgirl

Yes, they do seem that way and I definitely hope they stay that way and keep appreciating the many loyal Dodger fans that have supported them from day one.

  67. nellyjune

dodgereric – I guess Steve Garvey was at the tournament in Murrieta over the weekend. My sister-in-law said his son had switched teams and is was playing for a different team. His son had once played for my brother and has since been on several different teams trying to find the best fit for his son, I guess as the story goes. Anyhow, my sister-in-law showed up late, and wasn’t there to see any of the other kids on the other teams in between games. If she would have known that, she would have told me. I guess she found out Sunday morning which team he was playing for. We were sitting a diamond away from him the entire afternoon and didn’t know it…………………….that’s was a bummer.

  68. nellyjune

red pen, red pen, red pen………I am not an english major obviously – LOL!!!! Just know that I know they are there, but there are too many to correct. I would only confuse the matter if I tried to fix it πŸ™‚

  69. bluecrewgirl

How old is son, Nelly? Btw, did you guys see how Jones is doing so far this season? Makes me made because he was so obviously completely out of shape when he was with the Dodgers and now he gets the wake up call and gets his act together after he practically stole money from the Dodgers. They should have tried to seek legal means to get out of paying him part of his salary. They named him the ***-hole of the week on Dodger Blues, lol.

  70. nellyjune

Yes, he is doing pretty well considering how crappy he did for us. I am all for legal action. That’s funny about the ******* of the week recognition.

They are playing in a 10 and under division so I am guessing 9 or 10.

  71. bluecrewgirl

If he has half of his dad’s talent, he’ll have a bright future. How is your son doing in baseball this year?

  72. nellyjune

Well, he was supposed to be in a jv tournament Monday,Tuesday and Wednesday of last week, but he decided on Monday, a game he was pitching, to have an issue with an umpire, who, in Michael’s defense, was horrible, but he got himself ejected from the game. Why Michael and not the coach because the coach just stood there like he always does and doesn’t fight for any calls whatsoever. The team itself is having issues with this JV coach not really knowing what he is doing and even the normally calm guys are getting frustrated. So, needless to say, he hasn’t played in a week. However, after this season, which will end in next week, he is being picked up for a Sunday, fastpitch league with his pitching coach. Then we move onto summer ball, which is where most of his training takes place because the travel team is better than the school team.

  73. bluecrewgirl

That sucks that the coach didn’t have his back, but sounds like he has a lot of baseball talent in his own right. It must be fun to watch. I’d better hit the hay. I was off Friday and Monday and went back to work today. It was so hard. I could easily be retired. People that say they’d be bored being retired are crazy as far as I’m concerned. I’d find plenty to do. Say hi to Dodgereric for me if you talk to him. I never seem to be on at the same time he is anymore. Night Nelly.

  74. nellyjune

Good Night bluecrewgirl – Well, he was here for one line, but then gone again. My guess is he is either having connectivity issues again like he did last night, or he is working on one of his famous spreadsheets for the scout troop.

  75. dodgereric

Three of them actually. I worked on them after work and forgot to send them home to be updated tonight. So I had to duplicate all the stuff here that I did at work. That make any sense? I’m tired, so maybe not. Anyway, I got them all sent off now, so everyone’s happy.

Too bad about not knowing The Garv was on the next field, Junie! But you’ve met him before, haven’t you? Vegas?

I left for the meeting right after Kersh left the game (interesting time to take him out, BTW – one out into the inning with no one on and 86 pitches thrown.) I started the DVR when I left and watched the rest when I got home. All good things come to an end. Like dcollins said, it’s good to know we’re never out of it this year.

Well, it’s In – И – Out for me. Good night one and all and may God Bless you one and all! Tomorrow we start a new streak!

  76. nellyjune

Ward Dear………I guess it was me this time. I was watching the movie “Vantage Point” and must have fallen asleep somewhere towards the end of it. I woke up about 1:15ish, and I saw your post and thought I will just post in the morning instead. Plus, with another weekend away from home this weekend – LOL!!, I was trying to get ahead with cleaning and school work, and didn’t get much of that done either once I fell asleep……………….Well some πŸ™‚

    Yes, you made sense.
Yes, I have met Steve Garvey before.
I am not sure why Kersh was taken out at the point either.
