Honoring Jackie Robinson
It’s a special day here at Dodger Stadium and throughout baseball. Without Jackie Robinson, there would be no Maury Wills, no Tommy Davis, no Dusty Baker, no Matt Kemp, no James Loney, no Russell Martin, no Orlando Hudson, no Barack Obama…the list goes on and on.
His memory and actions will be saluted and all of our players will wear No. 42 in his honor. Here’s the lineup:
Furcal, SS
Hudson, 2B
Manny, LF
Ethier, RF
Martin, C
Loney, 1B
Kemp, CF
Blake, 3B
Kershaw, P
If you dont want to win today, you must not be breathing.
.
Happy Jackie Robinson Day!!!

GO GET EM DODGERS!!!!!!!

BEAT THE GIANTS!!!!!
Couldn’t have said it better myself, Dodger4life! LET’S WIN DODGER BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!! MOST OF ALL, BEAT THOSE GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Jackie and Rachael, for all that you’ve done not only for our sport, but for our country as a whole. You’ll never be forgotten.
In Jackie’s memory, LET’S CLOBBER THOSE GIANTS BACK TO COOGAN’S BLUFF!!!!
I really thought Hudson was going to be bench today just because he did get a cycle last game but his numbers aren’t that good against Cain 0/18. I’m looking for the Odog to keep up his great hitting and have another good game and gets his 1st hit off of Cain and keep him winless against us in his career.
The Rev. Dr. King once told Don Newcombe that if Jackie, Campy, and he had not come first, HIS job would have been a lot tougher. Today honors a great man.
Look at what I did to my blog because of him:
http://metsgo.mlblogs.com/
Greenm ~ welcome to ITD. Jackie was a great man. I shudder every time I think of what he had to endure. Yet, with all of the hostility, he showed grace and dignity.
My dad was born/raised in Brooklyn and loved the Dodgers. My absolutely earliest baseball memories are of watching Jackie Robinson on TV during rarely broadcasted games and then seeing my dad go crazy with excitement over his play. It took a lot to move him to that state, but Jackie did it.
Now batting, number 42, the entire lineup!! 🙂 Great day for baseball, and especially the Dodgers! God bless Jackie Robinson!
This truly feels like a holiday to me, in fact, if I was sill working I would take the day off and celebrate Jackie Robinson Day.
Monday I was at the inaugural opening of Citi Field and in the Jackie Robinson Rotunda, it was magnificent.
Don’t worry he was wearing his Dodger uniform in all his moving and still pictures.
What a shrine, I recommend everybody to come and see it.
As a Dodger fan I was proud to let everyone know it.
Everything I have read about Jackie leads me to believe some people are put on this earth for a special reason. Baseball was not even his best game and there were others far more talented than him if that is all Branch Ricky wanted. But of course we know Ricky wanted more than just talent and as they say, the rest is history. The color line would have been broken at some point but Jackie was the one who had to endure the process.
Happy Jackie Robinson Day, Everybody!!!!!!!
I will be out there tonight at the stadium rooting for all the #42’s (at least the ones wearing Dodger uniforms).
Torre makes me more nervous than coffee with his batting order…and I don’t even drink coffee. What’s the “Peter Principle”…keep promoting a worker until he reaches his level of incompetence? Ethier was doing just fine in the six hole, thank you. Who cares if he owns Cain? That’s history. And Loney was doing fine cleaning up. Joe can’t stand to leave things alone. He’s worse than a teen-aged girl trying to pick an outfit…no offense to teen-aged girls, mind you!
Happy Jackie Robinson Day, Joe Pierre! Glad you enjoyed Citi Field (or as some Citi-hating NY fans say, Shea: http://www.nomas-nyc.com/product_shea.html). I haven’t gotten a chance to visit NYC yet, but the new Mets park has made it much more likely that I have to take a trip to see it.
The greatest thing about Jackie Robinson is that he did so much to benefit the lives of those who came after him… people who don’t like baseball And/Or people who are not African American benefit from the life that he led. Jackie made EVERY American’s life better.
God bless you, Mr. Robinson.
as i explain to my kids it is an honor to be a dodger fan. we are the organization that truly is THE pioneering and game changing TEAM on the field and throughout the world. to me it is an honor to be a fan of the major league squad that broke the color barrier, to make a political statement that all men & women are created equally and have the right to the same inalienable rights. the first squad to truly pioneer to the far east and sign a japanese player and a korean. to be amongst the first to have a native american player (and all time great Zack Wheat). to be the first major league team to pioneer to the west coast and win MULTIPLE championships for their beloved city, while the gnats from the north still have won zero. to be such a great organization that Jackie Robinson REFUSED to go to the gnats. the first and probably only squad to have a player so captivating on every level on and off the field that his number was retired throughout the entire league. to have such a track record of treating all cultures and creeds with such equality that they did not have to hire other candidates when they hired joe torre due to the organizations history (current and past) of treating EVERYONE fairly. to have the highest ranking woman ever in a major league front office, who could be the first ever female GM soon. yes when i cheer for the blue it truly means more than championships, it is pride. GO BLUE! 42
i want to say happy jackie robinson day to everyone too! let’s go blue!!
Thank Jackie…

Class all the way Jackie. We could all learn from you.
.
Thank for the example…
Wish I was at the game tonite instead of in class!
Happy Jackie Robinson Day!! :0)
Lets go dodgers. We need a win tonight for Kershaw.
Posted a Jackie Robinson tribute entry in my blog. Check it out if you’re so inclined 🙂

LETS GO DODGERS, LETS GO
The major leagues have recognized that many African-American athletes and fans have left the game for other sports, and there is a movement to bring back this great fanbase and athletes to baseball.
.
It is fitting then, that Jackie Robinson’s Dodgers regularly start four African-Americans in James Loney, Matt Kemp, Orlando Hudson, and Russell Martin (okay, he’s African-Canadian). It is even possible that on a given night the starting lineup could consist of six African-Americans with Juan Pierre and James McDonald joining the others.
.
GO BLUE!!
Congrats Odog you’re now 1/19. Let’s cream Cain right now.
Hopefully Cain will stay wild until the game is out of reach.
RBI ~ JAMES LONEY!!!!
.
GO DODGERS!!!!!!
Nice walk Loney and gosh if on Furcal wasn’t CS would been 2-0.

Urgh 30 pitches 1st innings by Cain and got save when Furcal got CS and 18 not good but nice inning Kershaw.
Blake’s team leading 3rd HR.
Wow Texas offense playing in Texas is a joke and it look like Kinsler got a cycle.
Atta Boy……Blake!!!!!
.
GO DODGERS!!!!!!
I always think of Aurillia as a tough out for the Dodgers.
That 5th inning was the first hitless inning for the Dodgers.
Good evening all! Happy Jackie Robinson day!
Looks like Kershaw’s pitching a gem so far!
GO DODGERS! BEAT THE JINTS!
WOW! 13 K’s! Kershaw’s en fuego!
105 pitches for Kershaw impressive….:)

LETS GO DODGERS, LETS GO
Two fabulous pitching performances in a row. In fact, I know the season is young, but so far our pitching has been outstanding for the most part.
Screw you Torre I’d rather have one more inning from Kershaw
Lead off walks or hit batters are an issue with this team.
God damn it he come a no decision
Shad it would be great if he could of gotten another inning out of Kersh but that is why they have a team. The bully has to pick up the starters. It’s not Torre that made a mistake there with Kuo. That is on Kuo not executing. As well as the offense not producing when they had the chance.
.
Lame…
What a shame for Kershaw.
Like were back to the Koufax-Drysdale era when we had the weak hitting to go with it.
Thar she blows!
Such a shame with the gem Kershaw pitched he won’t get a win. What a travesty!
He had him 0-2 and grooved one. Another mistake by the bully.
MartinLoneyKemp and I were at Dodger Stadium in 1990 when Ramon Martinez tied a Dodger Record for most strikeouts with 18–and he did it in 8 innings, going into the 9th with a chance to set the Dodger Record and tie the NL Record, Set the NL record and tie the MLB record, and break the MLB record, respectively. We were rooting for errors and dropped third strikes.
.
I thought Kershaw might stay in–6 more strikeouts would have gotten him to 19.
.
I think MartinLoneyKemp might be there tonight with our uncle.
.
I was there on Jackie Robinson night last year–Josh is right about all the things that Jackie made possible–not just in baseball, but through baseball in the world. I was sort of hoping that the President would go to throw out the first pitch tonight at the game at the new park–it would have been fitting.
**** you torre.
Leek is here! Nice to see you Leek!
If the guy is not stuggling don’t take him out.
BEAT THE GIANTS!!!!!!
.
LETS GO DODGERS, LETS GO
.
LETS GO DODGERS, LETS GO
.
LETS GO DODGERS, LETS GO
Ugh–no sooner did I post than did that happen.
.
Over-managing. Kuo’s been perfect this year, and great last year. That’s why he’s the set-up guy. And what we needed was a strike out, and Kuo does that quite a bit.
.
Bad spot to give up on him in exchange for a rookie reliever.
It’s like the bullpens purpose in life is to screw Kershaw, unreal
Win or Lose Kershaw pitched a great game, with no decision.
Time to put the rally caps on folks.
second game in a row this has happened to Kershaw, how can u pitch well with no faith in the guys behind you, i feel sick
Still time left.
.
Way to go Russ!!!
come on James, hit ties it up
come on get let score alot.
Good AB by Loney!
.
Let’s get the Captain home.
.
Let’s go Matty!!!
To salvage a win out of this game despite Kershaw not getting a well deserved victory would be nice.
That one need 2 to 3 more.
1 more guys, come on Matt!!
I bet Grady probably would let him stay in until he get in trouble first batter get on he’ll pulled him.
Big RBI for Loney.
Way to go, Matt!
Bad news for Kershaw, but there remains much hope with this offense.
.
I should note–the whole situation is the offense’s fault. If we leave 5 on base instead of 7, Torre probably lets Kuo keep going, and even if he lets a run or two score, the Dodgers still lead. But there was too much pressure on the bullpen, who is also to blame, of course.
.
But now it’s up to the Bison. This, I think, is an early test for this team–the team that seems to have finally arrived–is for real.
Kemp is the man.
awesome at bat Matt! Now lets win this game!!
Great going KEMP.
Do you just hate that once he get pulled we scored 2 more? I
Let’s go Blake!!
Hello there Joe!
Let’s try to get Manny up this inning.
Way to go Monkey Whiskers!
.
Let’s go Ferk!!
Good hit Doug, come on Raffy!!
Damn it so close.
Let’s hope they win with a walk off in the bottom of the 9th!
Ok it’s all set up for a Manny walk off home run, keep it tied pen!!
Kuo had 3 holds and was leading the league there.
.
You have to be able to rely on your bullpen.
.
Now hopefully Brox will keep his shutdown pitching.
Heeeeere’s Johnny!!!
Yeah and Kuo owned the Giants with a 2-0 record ERA 2.41 and a whip of 1.18.
Good inning Brox.
.
Let’s walk off tonight!
1 more out to go.
Nice Hudson find a way to get on base without a double or triple maybe a game winning homerun.
Let’s end this guys!! GO DODGERS!!
Nice job Brox!
This would be a more memorable game if we lose.
He just didn’t execute there. Like Leek mentioned if the bats had scored some more runs earlier there wouldn’t of been as much pressure on the bully.
.
You could kind of see that happening earlier when they weren’t scoring runs. That is just the way baseball is! That’s what makes it so much fun.
.
Way to go O-Dog!
.
Come on Manny!!!!
Nice job.
Hudson!
I think Howry may be having flashbacks from when he was in a Cubs uniform last year when the Dodgers knocked them out of the playoffs.
Let’s go Dre… Unless you are walked…
Alright Manny! Walk it off Andre!!
Nice need a sac fly. Let’s go Ethier
Ok Russ, lets end this game!!
I was thinking the same thing vl4.
Maybe VL.
.
Hopefully Russ relaxes and gets this run in! Easier said then done. I’m on pins & needles!
.
Joe – If it means a win then I don’t want to remember this game! LAM!
giants are delaying the inevitable, make it happen Russ! GO DODGERS!!
We can only win it or blow it now.
Just like old times.
Sigh that a no no martin go figure
Dodgers win!!!
I remember the last time we had this and blew it when Wilson k’s 3 in rows. If that was the game.
Nice gift from the Beach Boy!
Cheap, but we’ll take it!
Yes!!! Go Blue!!!
BIG GAME JAMES #42 with the RBI!!!!!
.
WAY TO GO DODGERS!!!!!
Nice job Kersh!!! Let’s sweep this series against the Gnats!
A victory is a victory. I’ll take it. 3 rbi’s without a hit for Loney, not a bad night’s work.
IT SEEMS LIKE OLD TIMES.
Cheyyyyyaaaaa!! GO DODGERS!! We’ll take it anyway we can
It was like this years ago, between these two team.
They play there own type of baseball.
Maybe it was the ghost of Jackie Robinson.
After midnight here, and 5:30 comes early for waking up. Good night ITD gang!
Super fantastic game by the Blue. Superior start by Kershaw “The Claw” with a one-hitter through seven innings. Bullpen makes things interesting, but the offense comes right back in the eighth with key hits from Andre and Russ, then Loney with a Sac Fly – all night long RBIs without hits – James! Then Brox shuts them down, and the offense comes right back with the on-fire O-Dog, Manny, and Loney with one more hitless RBI. Just remember, a walk is a run.
.
And with that, we are tied for first place. Is that worth ice cream, or do we need to have first all by ourselves?
WAY TO GO DODGERS!!!!!
Sweeping the Midget’s would be sweet!!
.
Joe I envy the years you’ve seen. You truly saw the great and golden years of baseball.
.
It would be great if you could make it out to LA this year.
That’s the kind of game that could make you believe in yourself.
Way to go Dodgers!!!! That was the kind of game Danny Kaye sang the Dodgers Song about.
What a good way to start a homestand. Only 7 home games in April, gotta make ’em all count!
GO DODGERS!!!
Damn which I had a fantasy baseball team with Kershaw and Biils on them but I got them in different league but that going to hurt because I have Kuo/Lowe/Weaver with Kershaw in one league. Oh Oh Kershaw doing an interview and Torre is not on TV.
I had to listen to gnat radio all the way to Bakersfield this morning, and they themselves were saying that the gnats amd their fans just look at defeating the Dodgers and the Dodgers look at winning championships. Their own radio talk show hosts are saying it!!! Well, this certainly was a great victory tonight. Let’s get out the brooms and go for the sweep tomorrow boys!!!
forgot to erase not.
By the way, the Dodgers are now tied for 1st with the Pads.
I know…..Crash was asking about ice cream. He was asking we have to be in first by ourselves?
Nelly, aren’t you going to the game tomorrow? Should be a great game.
Yes we are 🙂
BTW Congrats to Griffey for hitting #400 as a Mariners is always a good feeling to hit 400 homeruns with one team.
Where are you sitting?
Did you hear about Kinsler from the Rangers? He not only hit for cycle, but he went 6 for 6. That hasn’t been done since 1890.
By piecing together the ITD blogs from 7/7/08 and 7/8/08, it does appear that a tie for first is sufficient for ice cream!
Nelly – Make you sure you bring a broom to the game tomorrow! But it’s okay if it’s a small broom, since we’ll be sweeping Midgets!
Loge Deck – left field area (section 159), row A. I am wearing all Andre…..down to my nails, which have the #16 on two of them. The funny thing about that is if I flip the number upside down, it’s 91, my daughter’s volleyball number. My son’s number in baseball is number 11, which happens to be my favorite NASCAR driver’s number. So, I got my athletes and kids covered.
Hey dodgereric – I didn’t see you sneak in up there. How are you doing? 🙂
Sounds good Crash…… both the ice cream and the broom.
Yes Nelly I heard about Kinsler but guess no one didn’t pay attention to that 8:29 post.
I am sorry Shad – I wasn’t around at 8:29.
Good one Crash!
.
I saw it Shad. I didn’t comment because I was just wrapped up in the game. That is pretty cool. I just don’t want it to overshadow the O-Dog’s cycle. But 6 for 6 is pretty awesome.
Hey ya’ll! Just updating Scout spreadsheets. Bummer that the Kid didn’t get the W, but as he himself said, “It doesn’t matter who gets the win.” I like him.
Kersh has really stepped up, and I am so thankful and proud of him for that. 13 K’s – that’s fabulous!!!
what a gut check victory. if our pitching can shake out, we will be championship caliber. a LOT of what if’s with the pitching, and now that Hiroki appears to be out for close to another month. alot of ?’s with the pitching: kuo’s elbow, corey’s shoulder, broxton’s confidence, bellisario’s ability to adjust, mcdonald’s confidence and ability to execute, stults – mystery man, billz has no ?’s solid, kershaw is answering the ?’s but not quite solid (the gnats were swinging wild tonight) and wolf……..?
Can’t beat those numbers from Billz and Kershaw the last two games:
14 IP, 6 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, 24Ks
That’s impressive!!!
So, do the scouts have trips every weekend? I am assuming just about. Those spreadsheets you do are verydetailed. No wonder that don’t want you to go.
NP Nelly I knew you was busy.
Dodgereric, I haven’t seen you in a long time. I hope you are doing well. Have a great time at the game, Nelly. Hopefully Andre will have another multi-hit game. Goodnight everyone.
Like I said before which I had those 2 on the same team together instead of Kuo, Kershaw. Lowe and Weaver. Let’s see what Stults could do later on today.

So who’s going to take ndscherne placed? I’m surprise he hasn’t been around lately. I sure hope nothing wrong with him.
Thanks bluecrewgirl!! As for Dodgereric, I just saw him a few hours ago and he seemed to be doing just great. Plus, he’s going to the game too, with his wife and son. Good night and God Bless.
bluecrewgirl – I will just be happy if he starts tomorrow 🙂
Thanks Shad 🙂
http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090415&content_id=4287650&vkey=news_la&fext=.jsp&c_id=la
Andre is now 18 for 28 against Cain. Plus he was intentionally walked again tonight. n
No, not every weekend….although it seems like it sometimes. I’ve got to get this figured out by Friday as they’re leaving then. This week it’s difficult because I wasn’t there – celebrating Chris’ birthday and all. I’m having a little trouble translating my subs’ writing and the figures are swimming on me. So I’m quitting for the evening and will have to steal a little time at work. If I take my laptop to the game, Chris’ll have my hide!
Thanks, bluecrewGIRL. I took a sabattical for a little while, but it’s all good now. Hope you’ve been OK as well!
Shad, I think we may have seen the last of ndeschenes. I think he retired when Superman Jeff Kent did. I could be wrong, it’s just a theory. He was incensed when Kent was benched in the playoffs.
I think I’m gonna turn in. It’s been a long, eventful day and it’s bound to be a longer and more eventful day tomorrow. If you’re going to the game tomorrow and see a female Ethier sitting with an old and gray Bill Buckner, come over and say “Hi!”.
Good night and may God Bless you one and all.
sorry – 17 for 27. His second single wasn’t off of Cain.
Dang we went from opening day crowd of 57,099 to 42,511. This would been a good game to go. Hudson was 0/18 against Cain and had 2 hits with a bunt single to the pitcher. I hope Pierre was watching that. I was hoping a total of 114,198.
You forgot about the two people wearing orange and black!!!! LOL!!! I am not sure what Matt, Mariya and
Chris are wearing, but you can be pretty much be assured Bill and Michael will be sporting the orange and black – LOL!!! Good Night, God Bless and see you tomorrow, and I am very happy Matt won his hockey game tonight….very impressive!!
Shad – I personally don’t think anybody can replace ndeschenes. I, however, think dodger4life is doing an excellent job of rallying the ITDers around our team. He has become quite the spirit leader around here, don’t you think?
I need to get some sleep. I have a long day ahead tomorrow…..I believe we are driving up the coast, ending up somewhere in Los Angeles and then onto the Dodger game. It is sure to be an adventure I am sure. Good night and God Bless everyone 🙂
Sorry, but I forgot to mention what has to be one of the most interesting box score lines in my recent memory.
J Loney 1B – – 2AB, 0 Runs, 0 Hits, 3 RBIs
OK, now I can go to sleep.
Does Kevin Kennedy still do Dodgers Live after the game?
For ndeschenes in absentia:
Fantabulous job by new Superman lefty Claton Kershaw with 13Ks in 7 innings. Another torrid hitting day for “Batman” Orlando Hudson playing for retired Superman Jeff Kent. “Big Game” James Loney drives in three runs without a hit. Matt “The Hitman” Kemp with a tremendous 9 game hitting streak. Lights out effort by our new closer Jonathan Broxton. Another HR for team leader Casey Blake. Manny, Marty and the rest of the boys, well done!! Surely this will be the year that megastars and champions are made of our beloved Dodgers!!!
How’s that?
Good morning, Enchanted ~ I’d say that was FANTASTIC!!!!
.
Let’s sweep those Giants out of the Ravine today!!!
Good Morning ITD readers and writers!!!!
Just fabulous enchanted – the job is yours!!!!
GO DODGERS!!!! BRING OUT THE BROOMS TODAY BOYS!!!!!
GOOOOOD MORNIIIIIIIING DODGERTOOOOOWN! Last nights game was awsome. It was just a very windy…everyone at the stadium and at home were feeling the BLUE BREEZE OF KERSHAW’S PITCHES. He was awsome…our KERSHAW is growing up. And too me, everyone (but Pierre) played great, and contributed to last nights win……GOOOD JOB BOYS! Now we want to see this for the rest of the games…!
*
ROSE
Obviously Kuroda has gone from, “I can pitch” to 15-Day DL to now needing rehab starts. Next comes the inevitable rehab “setback” from which he goes to the 60-Day DL.
What is it with the medical staff on this team?
They have a medical staff?! LOL
What’s with this medical staff is sommed up in one word – CONTE. For all that he’s brought to our team, his name ought to be bleeped out on ITD.
Good morning ITD, Dodgerfaithful
.
What a game last night, and since the last game of the D-Backs series, for that matter.
The only starter not to have a hit has 3 of the teams 5 RBI’s and the game winning one. Kershaw you were magnifecent, outstanding performance last night. Having only gameday I listened to music as the game was played, Russ is up and Ride Captain Ride was playing, Russ gets on base. Every things gonna be alright, Al Green and the O Dog gets on. Every little things gonna be alright and Manny is on. Mas Tequila and Andre is aboard. I can feel it coming in the air tonight and Brox shuts them down, and as we bat in the 9th….. Rock Me Baby All Night Long. And Rock Me They Did!!!
.
Tonight cant get here fast enough, ( This is the way we like to party. )
.

Final game of the series : 7:10 PT Slults and Zito.
.
LETS GO DODGERS, LETS GO!!!!
BRING THE RING TO L.A. IN 2009!!!!!
Wooooohoooooo Bob Barker is back for one day on The Price Is Right can’t missed it.
Kuroda the one that said it through a tranlation but seriously I think the players should step up and tell them instead of holding back.
Nelly yeah I agree about dodger4life.
Good morning Boys & Girls!
.
Gosh Enchanted! great job in ndeschene’s absence!
.
D4! You are in great form for this year!
.
Let’s go Dodgers! Let’s sweeeeep!
Emma
Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I’ve been waited for this day to come and now Barker selling his book. I can’t believe at his age he not even slowing down.
