Holiday party…
Sorry it’s been a few days since the last post. This one will be short, as we’re having our company holiday party this evening and I don’t have much new news to report.
Most of you probably saw the news on the front of the site about the changes we’re making to our TV/radio broadcast teams. This was driven solely by the need for more consistency on KABC 790 and Charley jumped at the chance to do all 162 games alongside Rick Monday next season. So, while this was not an easy decision to replace Jerry Reuss, we do think it’ll give the fans a lot more regular voices on radio. And Jerry will continue to work with the organization on various things, as he’s obviously a huge part of our history (and for anyone who has met him, a truly great person).
Now we start the process of looking for someone to do 40 games on play-by-play alongside Steve Lyons in 2009 so we welcome any feedback, as always.
Merry Christmas to Josh, and all our beloved Dodger’s š

Have a good party Josh and thank you for the new thread. As long as we have Vinny on the air..everything will be fine š
Vinny is the only one we need! One more thing, BRING BACK THE BLUE CREW!!!!!
Congradulation’s Vinny…

Repost from last thread:
The discussion about a salary cap is interesting. I believe the other major sports have them although I defy anyone to explain how the caps work with all the exceptions, franchise players, etc. The players union would fight such a concept tooth and nail arguing there is no need since the game as a whole seems strong financially. In essance a salary cap of sorts already exists: the willingness (or stupidness) of major league owners to pay these high salaries and a luxary tax put on some arbitrary amount a team can pay. A lot of good that has done.
Have a great party Josh, and thanks for keeping us in touch with the front office. Also, nice touch at the top with the mlb blogs top 100 logo – pretty cool!!!! We will do our best to make ITD #1 next year.
THINKING DODGER BLUE THE WHOLE YEAR THROUGH!!!!!
LIFE IS GOOD TODAY š
lbirken ~ you are right about the P.U. (Players’ Union) fighting a salary cap tooth & nail. I think we, the F.U. (Fans’ Union) has to say no to $5 hot dogs, no to $15 dollar parking, no to overpriced team merchandise and especially no to $90 ST tickets.
I still can’t figure out why the A’s are so hot on Furcal’s trail. What are they going to do with him when the trade deadline comes and they throw in the towel again? Holliday won’t be there. Not that I question if Beane has a motive. I just can’t figure out what it is.
I agree the fans can say no by not buying high priced food and drinks. I am not a beer drinker but even if I were I don’t think I would pay the price at a game but people do.
I find the A’s pursuit of Furcal a bit out of their usual way of doing things. Since when did they go after high priced free agents with four year deals? Enchanted, you may have guessed their strategy; sign him now and trade him later for someone else’s prospects.
The most humbling news is that Vin Scully is not signed beyond 2009.
But something tells me he will be.
Steve Lyons is a comical guy, I’d liked to see him continue also.
The Dodger unique stile of broadcasting goes all the way back to Red Barber and Connie Desmond. I listened to them when I was 9 years old and I remember when Scully began.
Wow, that’s a long time ago.
Listening to games on a Saturday afternoon on MLB audio, really brings back the old days.
The way things are going, the “A”s will trade Furcal back to us!
Vinnny is a treasure! And I thought I have been listening to him for a long time and I have been listening since the Dodgers came to L.A. in 1958.
trublue44, are you becoming a cynic?
Who, me? Of course I am!
Keep the faith. I think there may still be some surprises out there. Have a good evening.
Thanks, lbirken. I really do think we will do something great. Have a good night.
i don’t know if anyone posted this already.. but it looks like raffy will announce a decision tomorrow.. so one way or another.. at least we’ll know something..
eric, i read the manny article you posted on the previous thread.. interesting read.. can’t say i disagree with any of it..
i think raffy’s decision is down to us and the A’s.. i think he has to consider the A’s offer because it’s worth the most.. but i’m pretty sure i heard that he would like to stick to the national league.. and we’re the only national league team in the mix.. who would seriously believe that the royals are involved.. that’s laughable..
Can you guys talk a little bit more about salary caps? Don’t know too much about them, so here are some questions…
I know the salary cap hurts the Yankees, but how does it help the Dodgers? Don’t the Dodgers spend more than most teams? If there were a salary cap, wouldn’t the Dodgers be baseball’s version of the Knicks (before they finally made some good trades a few weeks ago)?
Josh, please no Matt Vasgersian!!
I’m sure Ned has some surprises birk – that’s what scares me.
dodgers get dice-k.. daisuke yamashita that is:
The Dodgers hired a Japanese minor league coach today, and it could be just the beginning. It was only June when GM Ned Colletti was saying it was “only a matter of time” before a Japanese manager would run a major league team.
http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?id=3448382
okay.. i can’t get the video clip on my work computer.. but apparently there’s a TMZ video of barry bonds saying that manny ramirez should stay a dodger.. that’s hilarious
the hilarious part being TMZ.. and barry..
Barry Bonds wants to be a Dodger too. He says he isn’t retired…….he’s old enough to play for us.
ksdodgers – there’s quite a nice discussion of the salary cap the NHL uses at this link:
.
.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salary_cap
I’d prefer the hard caps used by the NHL and NFL as opposed to the soft cap NBA, but even that would be preferable to nothing. Its already become a league where the small market teams are nothing more than a AAAA proving ground for big market teams.
enchanted – thank you for the link on the salary caps. The luxury tax sure is an interesting thing because the teams it is supposedly affecting really doesn’t have any affect on them at all. Out of the nine occasions the tax was used, 5 of those times was the Yankees, and they are probably headed for a sixth. Like you said, at this point any cap would be good, but lbirken makes a good point too because if the owners would just stop and say “enough is enough” that might work too. However, why should they if they can afford it? The Yankees and the Red Sox sure aren’t going to be the ones to stop it.
He is on my SHIYATTTTTT List for sure. F this guy..how about looking forward to leading us to a World Series for 2o0 million bucks u fat piece of crap.
—-
And while he’s just three games into his Dominican season, Jones is already looking past the coming summer to next winter, when his two-year, $36.2-million deal with the Dodgers will be up and he’ll be heading back into the free-agent market.
“After the next season I’ll be a free agent again,” he said. “I have to regain my confidence in the game, get the injury out of my mind and run like normal. That confidence is what I’ve come to look for with the Aguilas.”
—
Uh OO..not that I care cause I don’t. Id much rather have Manny and Hu then Furcal and Pierre. (how i see it) but you know we sit here and the braves are trying to bring in the best pitcher in the NL and now the best infilder on the market…
—
A fascinating new player has emerged in the Rafael Furcal sweepstakes.
The Braves, Furcal’s original team, want him to return.
“They’re in deep,” Furcal’s agent, Paul Kinzer, told FOXSports.com on Monday night. “He’s seriously considering it.”
The A’s still appear to have the high offer for Furcal ā four years in the $40 million range, according to major-league sources.
The Braves, however, are believed to have offered three years and a vesting option, though Kinzer would not confirm the exact terms.
Furcal, 31, left the Braves after the 2005 season, signing a three- year, $39 million free-agent contract with the Dodgers. He still owns a home in the Atlanta area.
Most ominously for the A’s, Furcal “will do whatever he can not to go to Oakland,” preferring to return to Atlanta or stay in Los Angeles, according to a rival executive.
The addition of Furcal would give the Braves stunning flexibility in their middle infield, perhaps enabling them to revive their trade talks for Padres right-hander Jake Peavy.
I agree that any kind of a salary cap would be an improvement over the present system. I do like one aspect of the “soft cap” because it allows a team to go above it to keep current players. The luxury tax is, essentially, a joke because teams just pay it and continue to spend. Historically, every time the issue arises in MLB, the players ask to look at the team’s books as proof of need and the owners refuse. It’s probably the only issue out there that would bring about a work stoppage if the owners pushed it. IMO, the overall financial state of the game would have to get a lot worse before it comes up again.
jungar – So, I would have to assume you are not happy.
Ward Dear………..I just got done watching the video you sent this morning, and that was a beautiful story.
Good Evening Seesky! How are you?
I am just testing to make sure I am getting through.
While I am here……BRING BACK THE BLUE CREW!!!!
Hey everyone!
Seen Gurnickās latest honk piece? http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20081215&content_id=3717463&vkey=news_la&fext=.jsp&c_id=la
At least he handles a tough question, āDo you think this will be the year when Dodger fans turn their backs on the team?ā Part of his answer:
āIf fans are turning their backs on the Dodgers because they aren’t spending more money than the Yankees, consider that the Dodgers spent wildly in the past on the winter’s top free agent (Kevin Brown) and heaped tons of money to keep their own players from leaving. It hasn’t worked.
The Dodgers are trying a different approach, dependent on the continued improvement of their younger players. ā
That answer stinks. Saying that spending money on a big name FA hasnāt worked is an easy cop-out. Is he trying to say that no one who wins the Series has spent money on FAs? He better do his homework. It may not guarantee anything, but it usually gives you a better shot.
And this ādifferent approachā thing ā if they shy away from multi-year contracts from now on, say good-bye to the young guns. Why would they stick around? Personally, I think the biggest reason theyāre sticking with the kids is because theyāre cheap ā for now.
Jungar, Iād rather have Manny and Hu (or DeJesus) than Furcal and Pierre too. What Iām not going to want to see is having neither Manny nor Furcal, because that probably means Pierre in Mannyās LF spot and Furcalās leadoff position. Neither one is very attractive to me.
One of the bad things about a hard salary cap is that it makes a lot of tough roster decisions every year, particularly when you are successful. And seesky is right about the players wanting to look at the books. The owners have some really interesting accounting. And regarding the owners ājust saying noāā¦..the last time they did that they were found guilty of collusion and it cost them a bundle.
The players can also point to the fact that there hasnāt been a repeat winner of the Series in the last 8 years. And only one of those 8 champs have won more than once. The Phillies, Red Sox, Cards, ChiSox, BoSox again, Marlins, Angels, D-Backs and then the Yanks start their run. No domination, both leagues represented.
Something they also might look into is revenue sharing. The NFL does it and theyāre fairly successful.
I wasn’t aware the NFL did revenue sharing. I learn something everyday on here.
I am DODGER4LIFE, I am Drysdale, Koufax, Jackie (In Spirit Only),
Tommy alway’s, I still am striving to be Orel, Vin at moment’s…( Even he will say it’s hard to be humble .) I am part of the MAGIC that is DODGER BASEBALL… š
I was asked to post this on Dodger4life’s request. He has been locked in his room and can’t get out š
From http://football.calsci.com/SalaryCap.html
“About 2/3 of the NFL’s money comes from the TV deal. The players get about 2/3 of team revenue. So, more or less, the TV contract goes to pay the players. These contracts are typically for about 5 years, and every time they are renegotiated the price goes up. So do player’s salaries.
The money from the TV contract is share and share alike – the Redskins, Cowboys, Bills, and Packers get identical checks. This money is key to the success of the smaller franchises. Without the TV contract money, there is simply no way on earth that Green Bay could ever field a competitive team.
There are a lot of other sources for NFL money. NFL licensed jerseys, for example that Randy Moss jersey you put on your kid last Halloween when you dressed him up as a demon, result in license fees going to the NFL. This money is also equally shared.
When the teams play, there is a “gate,” the money people pay for seats. This is in the neighborhood of about $2.5M per game. This money is split 60-40, with the visiting team getting 40% of the gate. Because of this teams like Jacksonville and Arizona just love it when the Packers or Cowboys come to play. These are the two or three games each year these teams can count on selling out, and the money they get is very welcome. Sometimes you will find that to buy a ticket to see the Packers on the road you have to buy a package of two or three tickets. This is nothing more or less than a device to get money from Packers fans into the pockets of the other teams owners.”
That is very intriguing Ward Dear……… I did not know that. That would make it much more interesting in the mlb then, wouldn’t it?
While it wouldn’t do the Dodgers much good, since their payroll (at least last year’s) is in the top, what, 5 – 6 teams, it would certainly make it possible for the Royals and Pirates of baseball to compete with the Yankees, wouldn’t it?
Now, that article is 3 years old now and may not be entirely up-to-date, it’s pretty close as far as I know.
What they don’t share is money from the luxury boxes or non-football revenue from the stadium like concerts, etc.
So, we would still be screwed because of past signings whereas the A’s, Pirates, Royals and even the Marlins would benefit. Would that change ticket pricing too? This concept wouldn’t happen in baseball though, would it?
GO DODGERS!!!!!!!!
BRING BACK THE BLUE CREW!!!!!!!!!!!!
WE BELIEVE!!!!!!!!
Dodger4life is still locked in his room and can’t get out ~ why would that be, I wonder?
I doubt it would change ticket prices. That’s still up to the owners.
The concept would work, but it will never happen as long as the MLBPA is as strong as it is currently. Right now the sky is literally the limit on player salaries. The old argument they always give is, “why should we limit our own salaries?” Which makes sense, until the owners try to limit themselves. Then they get hauled into court for collusion for “fixing” salaries. Hogwash. They shouldn’t have it both ways, but they do.
They even get the best of both worlds, union-wise. Most unions I know don’t allow each member to negotiate individual contracts.
That is very true Eric……..the way it is set up now, why would most want to change it. I mean if our FA’s didn’t turn out to be such duds and Dodger money was wisely spent, then we may be talking totally different.
Occasionally I have trouble getting in. Matter of fact, today was one of those days. That long post above was written on Word while I was trying to log in.
Keep on truckin’ D4! You’ll make it eventually!
He’s over on facebook, and that’s what I told him. He can read, just not post. I have been having problems getting onto ITD at school myself, which is unusual because it’s usually faster. BTW – thanks for that video this morning – awesome story!!!
Life as a Dodger is good today,
.
Good evening Dodgerfaithful š
Yeah!!!!!! Now, you can talk for yourself. My secretarial duties are now over for the evening. Does enchantedGM pay overtime for stuff like that?
You’re welcome! That man is pretty inspirational.
D4, welcome home!
McCourt, sell the team. You can’t run it the way it deserves to be run. To quote Gollum, “Go away and never come back.”
Inspirational is right ~ There are some kids I know that need to see that video, and some of them reside in room 5.
-I don’t know exact details on what you guys are talking about with salary cap, but if it hasn’t been mentioned I think there has to be a salary minimum too.
-I just think when u embarrass yourself both mentally and physically as Jones did last year u shut it. Or at very least say all I care about is 2009 with the Dodgers and restoring my fine career. Is it that hard?
-Furcal and Hu is Nomar to Loney. Just don’t overpay. It’s not that I dislike Furcal, but even Ned saw him basically ruin our last two years while paying him Albert Puljos and Jason Schmidt Money (lol). He’s hurt. Once the back goes, the leg injuries (hammys) follow. He’s ****. His peak is over. Mark my words weather we get him or not. I’m proud on Ned with this one so far. I am hoping we sign him, mainly so Ned does not sign Manny and then trade Ethier/Kemp for SS or SP.
-Manny has to be got at all costs, not just cause we need the bat, but we need our image to not get completely killed
The Dodgers are looking pretty bad right now, aren’t they? I can’t imagine what Josh, and the rest of the PR dept. must be going through right now trying to figure out how to get out of all these nightmare media issues.
This just in…
.
The F.U. is currently in disscusion with Pete Rose, to not only get baseball back but get the ( man ) that would truly fall apart if baseball did’nt survive š¦

Newsletter’s to be out soon š
TOP 100 ~ FLYING THE BANNER WITH DODGERPRIDE!!!
I am going to ask this time………is that for real Dodger4life?
No really we are #1 They just cheesed us out of the banner š¦
Well, we better get used to it. We’ll bide our time and watch as the better players come off the board – you know – the ones that want the multi-year contracts. We’ll get the middle-of-the-road guys. Again. Because that’s all McCourt can afford now.
jungar, of course there’s a minimum salary. There’s a minimum cap in the NFL. Every team has to spend AT LEAST 75% of the cap on player salaries. Just for the sake of easy numbers, if the cap for the entire team is $100 million, every team has to pay at least $75 million. I don’t know what the minimum per player is right now. Probably somewhere around $350 thou.
The cool part is that the contracts aren’t guaranteed. Ms McCheap will love that one.

Anybody read this???
Yeah, sara dropped it on us a while back. Maybe we can learn fundamentals again like in the old days.
Dodger4life ~ I think it was on earlier today. I had a hard time keeping up with all the antics today between our beloved dodgereric and enchanted trying to keep trublu happy. At least I think that is what was going on……
Well, I guess we did š LOL!!!!!
So, dodgereric/dodger4life – are you missing NASCAR? I sure am. I was talking to my NASCAR buddy at school today. He was wearing his Jimmie Johnson shirt today, and he is having a hard time on Sundays too. Not to mention our football teams aren’t doing so hot. He is a Raiders fan and the Redskins lost to the Bengals for goodness sakes. I am wearing my Denny Hamlin t-shirt as I write.
Fundamentals = Pride
.
Pride is how you fly your banner…
.
DODGERBLUE TRUE AND THRU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, you bet. The whole thing – qualifying, practices, what chassis are they using for the particular track, the sound of the engines. But this time of year has basketball and hockey to fill up the week between football games. Scouts, Matt’s hockey, taking care of my mom, work, the holidays. I’m never bored.
I sent the email to MLBlogs to get the Top 100 banner on our site. Hopefully they’ll come through. That’ll be cool to have that!
That is true……for sure. I am still not done decorating. How is your mom?
The one at the top by Josh’s intro isn’t the one you are talking about?
………and you forgot about your LOTR marathon – LOL!!! You can’t forget that! However, I guess that can go under holiday activities š
She’s ok. Her husbands’ not so good. He’s become very aggressive and can’t be at home anymore. He’s in a place 60 miles away while he’s being evaluated. My mom had done all she could and then some more, but even though she almost killed herself doing it, she still feels guilty about it. It’s tough.
Yeah, that’s the one. If you go back to the last thread and hit the link for the top 100, it mentioned that they’d be providing a way to get it on your blog. I checked back today and they provided an email link to put in our site’s name and the URL. We’ll see, I guess.
So, her husband is still in that place? I know that’s got to be hard on her even though it’s a good thing for her. Well, she’s got you, and you will make sure everything is fine – no doubts about that š We’ve been there Eric, and it’s no fun at all. You have the faith though, and that’s what it takes, really. Faith that everything will be alright.
So, does the Dodgerlyrics site have one too, or was it just the professional ones? I guess I can check myself….. š
He’s actually in another one now. He was too aggressive for the first place, so he’s in another one that specializes in Alzheimers’ cases. He’s completely uncooperative, refuses all assistance, whether it’s from my mom, his daughters or any of the healthcare people. A complete 180 degree turnaround from how he’s led his entire life. Strange thing indeed.
My mom is a very proud person and not used to receiving help from anyone. I guess it’s that midwestern thing. It’s been hard for her to ask us for help, but I think now it’s getting easier. She knows we’re here for her. That helps.
I think I need to hit the hay, June Darlin’. It’s starting to take a while to go back and fix all the typing errors.
God Bless you and you too D4, wherever you may be!

Here’s an article from the Braves site about Furcal and the pursuit of him……
Good night everyone!!!!! Take care and God Bless š
http://link.latimes.com/r/ZEZWGA/32GSS/MUFE2O/NHHQ/HDDU1K/ZH/h
Okay – one more article and this one is good old TJ Simers, and guess who is menitoned in the article…..ITD (really Josh). Let’s just say, T.J. sounds a little like us. Now I am going to bed. That article just showed up as I was trying to shut down. Good Night again š
Excellent article by Simers – thanks Nells.
I for one won’t cry if Ferk signs with the Braves. 3-4 years is a long time for a guy with a bad back, and honestly we don’t need Blake and Ferk blocking DeJesus and Hu. That said, DeJesus and Hu are two of the only tradeable commodities left, unless of course you’re planning on trading MLK, Dre or DeWitt.
I find it interesting though that Bowa really wanted DeWitt playing third, Torre wants pitching, and we really need a viable SS for a year or two, and all Ned ends up doing is getting Blake to keep DeWitt from playing third, and Loretta. Is any one of the three stooges + 1 on the same page? Hell, let’s sign a couple more PVL infielders and let Loretta play short. At this point, who cares? Even though I’m OK with him playing as far as that goes, Cabrera isn’t worth the two draft picks to sign.
If Frank had purchased Boston rather than L.A. and it was Boston looking like we do now, we’d all get a good chuckle and probably some perverse pleasure out of watching it.
I can only surmize that other cities are doing that with us right now…
BTW – Good morning ITD faithful!!
Good morning Enchanted. Right now, I don’t really care where Furcal decides to play. Wishing for the signing of players to make our team better seems like a pipe dream. I guess when the season starts, we will be a mediocre team in a lousy division. So, if Frank wants to build a winning team, he sure has fooled me. I’ll still root for Andre, Matt, James and Russell because I want them to do well and believe it or not, I am a Dodger fan.
The Atlanta Braves have reached preliminary agreement on a multiyear contract with free agent shortstop Rafael Furcal, a baseball source told ESPN.com’s Jerry Crasnick.
———————————————————————————————————–
NOOOOOOO! lowe, furcal, saito, and potentially manny! i really hope colletti has something up his sleeve. i’m not sure i’m prepared to stomach watching hu and andruw play everyday. at least mccheap can’t say his resources will be stretched so far the dodgers can’t sign manny. we’ve still got quite a bit to work with.
Who knows Tru. Maybe Frank will have the last laugh when many of the other franchises go under because of the financial crisis, and there’s Frank left standing because of prudent spending and the cunning and savvy deals that Ned’s put together…
Its happening in a parallel universe right now.
Good Morning ITD readers and writers!!!!
I don’t really have anything to add other than I thought the article last night was great too enchanted.
The real bummer with Furcal leaving is that Ned, Joe and Frank will now look to Pierre as the quintessential lead-off geek. Heaven help L.A. I feel like the Dodgers never really had Furcal, and I can’t blame management for being queasy about a guaranteed, long-term deal. Maybe this will kick-start Manny’s return. As for shortstop…………..I think I’d rather see Berroa than Cabrera, simply because of the comfort level…and Angel seemed to get better when Manny arrived. Speaking of Manny, I believe it’s either the Dodgers or Yankees. Not to be a racist, slime-ball, conspiratorial pig, but why in the world would Manny want to sign with a team that plays behind the Orange Curtain, if you get my drift? So please, Frank…………………SIGN MANNY. NOW!!!!
According to Mike, the Angels would love to have Manny. “We have given our best shot at landing Tex, so if that doesn’t work out, who knows?” That’s just great news. So, no Furcal and no Manny and no pitching on the horizon……..I’d say we are in a real pickle.
The Dodgers are being made into the Royals. Manny will sign elsewhere ,and we can kiss this season goodbye. The only bright side to this season is maybe with a mediocre team Franks attendence will drop and he’ll be forced to sell to someone who can actually afford to own a team!
Kemp for Wilson seems fair. Then slide Pierre into leadoff and LF and Jones in CF. Perfect.
—
The royals dobn’t blab about having the best fans in the world that deserve a world Champion and about how they will do whatever it takes etc…Sell the frakeing team already. u made your profits. move on i hate you.
Jungar seems a little miffed today! I don’t blame him at all!
Remember Frank has to save his money so he can buy more houses and marathons, the Dodgers are an afterthought.
I can’t believe I actually agree with an article written by TJ Simmers.
I agree with TJ also, clhuerth. And, I or one, do not trust Frank, either.
I know when TJ speaks for the fan base it’s time to admit you have no clue…and just sell.
I just received a text message stating ~ The Braves and Furcal just agreed to terms on a three-year contract with a vesting option for the 2012 season.
That’s just great……….next we will be hearing the Angels have signed Manny!
Good morning ITD.
The handwriting is on the wall now.
There is no chance whatsoever that Boras will allow Ramirez to sign a deal before Tex does. That’s what’s going to drive Manny’s salary up.
If Tex signs with the Angels, we might have a shot at Manny. But only if someone shoots the lock off of McCourt’s wallet.
If Tex signs with the Yanks, I see the Angels making a big, quick offer for Manny.
If Tex signs with the Red Sox, I see the Yanks throwing big money Manny’s way to one-up the BoSox.
In neither of the last two scenarios do I see McCourt outbidding anyone.
And with Jones performing down to his new standard of excellence in Winter Ball………
Joe: They say we’re old and we can’t see
Anything good about walks or OBP.
Juan: Well I don’t care if all that’s true
‘Cause you got me, and baby I got you
Juan: Babe
Both: I got you babe I got you babe
Joe: They say our love won’t win no games
But I don’t care if we go down in flames.
Juan: I guess that’s so, I don’t care either
as long as I get to start instead of Ethier
Juan: Babe
Both: I got you babe I got you babe
Juan: I got 8….point 8 mil, and I put you…. in my will.
Joe: And when I’m sad, you’re a clown
And if I get scared, you’re always around
Joe: So let them say your hat’s too big
‘Cause I don’t care, let them call me pig
Juan: Then put your little hand in mine
There ain’t no hill or mountain we can’t climb
Juan: Babe
Both: I got you babe I got you babe
Juan: I got you to write my name
Joe: I got you to lead the game
Juan: I got you to pull up my socks
Joe: I got you to take me on walks
Both: I got you babe
I really, really, really, really, really hope I’m wrong.
Sell the team, McCourt. Go away, and never come back.
Ward Dear…….I really don’t like seeing that song. Too many bad memories of last season š
Dodgereric ~ I hope you are wrong but I don’t think you are. Just remember, “I got you Babe”!
Outstanding….
Good Morning All,

We already know he has something up his ***.
ok so now we need a left fielder, shortstop, a lead off hitter, some bullpen help and starting pitching..wow seems like we need almost an entire team. I wonder what ned and Mccourt are thinking, don’t be surprise if Angels sign Manny….but as long as we keep on giving away money to mccourt nothing will change
The TJ article was great.
.
Dear Santa,
All I want for Christmas is a winning Dodger team to be put together.
Dear Santa,
aLL I WANT FOR X-MAS IS MCCOURT TO GO AWAY..!!!!
Lol Grizzly
I believe in Santa!
It seems like Ned and Franks plan is to just bring in living bodied players with no mind as to whether they will win or not. It also helps if they’re cheap or old. Sell the team Frank.
Play Hu at short (cheap, great glove, so-so bat) and sign Manny (expensive, so-so glove, Hall-of-Fame bat). Come on McCourt, either act like this is the L.A. Dodgers or go away, like everyone has been ranting.
I’m going to start the NO JACK WILSON society now. Just let Hu and DeJesus battle it out in ST and may the best man win. I’d much rather support them than another rotten player with a JP OBP.
Here, here………the N.J.W. Society is now formed……..I will sign up to be a charter member, Enchanted.
Opening Day 2009:
.
.
LF – Juan Pierre
C – Russ Martin
RF – Matt Kemp
CF – Andruw Jones
1B – James Loney
3B – Casey Blake
2B – Blake DeWitt
SS – Chin-lung Hu
P – Chad Billingsley
Book it.
if this current trend continues we will finish in 3rd place next year .book it
enchanted..you can’t let Ethier ride the pine on opening day! haha.. you’re the GM…stop the madness~~
if this trend continues…..nobody will show up for the games.
and if noone shows up..then Frank will have to eat crow and sell the team..ohh and his skanky wife too
And to that, Grizzly, I say hooray!!
We talked about a salary cap – I doubt Frank could cover the salary MINIMUM if they had a cap.
Now don’t get me wrong. CC 7 years @ $161 mil – No Way. Ferk guaranteed 3 years + option – No Way. Manny 4-5 years – No Way. BUT, had the D’s moved on these three immediately with decent proposals, could things have been different?
Also, why always do we have to shop the bargain basement? It’ll be pointed out that we have gotten “premier” FAs in the past. But I don’t think we can look at JP, Jones and Schmidt as fitting in that catagory. A pitcher we knew was lame, a power hitter probably on the downslide from clear & cream withdrawals, and a speedster that’s been on the decline since 2003. I’ll say Ferk was a premier player when he signed. OK he got hurt, it happens. Ned got lucky with Nomar I. Tomko, Nomar II, etc. etc., strictly thrift store material. And we’ll be right back there again looking to fill out the pitching staff, SS and bench.
I just don’t see how you can charge premium dollar like a big market club, then not deliver a premium product. Either put a REAL contending team together or lower prices. I realize any stadium renovations, upkeep, retro-fitting comes straight out of Frank’s pocket. But if you can’t pay 2-3 premium players, you sure as hell don’t need to spend a bazillion dollars on a green girdle.
I’d be a much happier camper if Frank said, hey we want to rebuild through our farm system exclusively and the money we’re saving these next two years will be used to retain these same players when they become free agents. He says that right now and I lay off and can accept and respect that. What I don’t like is all the BS and name dropping of players he knows he’s not even going to make a real attempt to acquire.
All I ask is that you just come clean Frank.
Oh and of course, FIRE NED.
Well said and right to the point, Enchanted.
Our facilities manager just came through my room. He points to my Dodger Wall, and says “You are going to have to take all of that down.” I give the look like “What in the hell”, and says, “Don’t worry, I was just kidding. I’m a Yankee fan.” I just started LMAO, and said “We are not happy with you right now.” He just smiled.
enchanted – I DON’T LIKE YOUR LINEUP!!!!!! I DON’T LIKE YOUR LINEUP!!!! I DON’T LIKE YOUR LINEUP!!!! (jk – sort of……LMAO)
LF – Juan Pierre
C – Russ Martin
RF – Matt Kemp
CF – Andruw Jones
1B – James Loney
3B – Casey Blake
2B – Blake DeWitt
SS – Chin-lung Hu
P – Chad Billingsley

Did u trade Ethier like they will most likey for some mid reliver.
okay, so seriously.. we’re supposed to tolerate juan pierre leading off yet again?? only this time, it’s worse.. because before, we knew when raffy would get healthy, he’d take over.. but now, there’s no one to relieve us of our misery!!
we knew one way or another we’d fine out about furcal today.. not quite the news i was hoping for.. i do want to say, no more orlando cabrera or jack wilson rumors.. just let hu or dejesus take over.. let them grow so we can see what we really have in them.. trust me ned, getting cabrera or wilson won’t guarantee us the world series =P
Not signing Furcal does not bother me one bit. But what we will do because we didn’t sign Furcal has me shivering.
The Etheraholic’s are mad drunk Enchanted š LMAO!!!
I am saying it now just cause, but if we dont sign Manny and JP is leading off and Jones is in CF on opening day then I am done. Can you guys let me be done then?
btw, anyone who is thinking about going to the new “under the lights” event.. Matt Kemp is still hosting, but now he’s joined by James Loney.. FYI
Jungar ~ I don’t think you will be the only one done!!! If Ethier and/or Kemp are gone too, the stands will be barren.
No, jungar, you can’t be done. We have to be miserable together.
Dodger4life – this Ethieraholic did not like that lineup. It really is “I Got You Babe” all over again. Bottoms up…….
maybe if ALL of us on ITD went to “under the lights” they might have enough money to actually improve the team.. oh, wait, who are we kidding.. they’ll just build more dreamfields, not that i’m against them supporting the community.. but there has got to be a way to do both =P
i think my biggest fear is that they will lowball russell, andre, etc during arbitration and lose them all to free agency in a couple years.. that would be the end.. literally the end.. PLEASE KEEP THE YOUNG CORE TOGETHER.. and not just while they’re all cheap.. but actually keep them together.. if you’re not capable of signing good free agents, then at least keep the studs you have in your grasp..
Well said, Sara!!
The Dodgers are planning to pursue free agent Orlando Cabrera if they fail to re-sign Furcal. Cabrera, 34, hit .281 with eight home runs and 57 runs batted in this year with the Chicago White Sox. Cabrera’s agent, Dan Lozano, said that the Dodgers have expressed interest in his client.
—
And yet they claim to go young. Go young my butt. We have two top prospects that are SS. Don’t LaRoache Hu Ned.
you can count me in too..i’ve been a fan for 20 yrs..but if this nonsense continues i am not buying any tickets to go see the boys next year…my way of sticking it to Mccourt
Sara – I couldn’t agree more, but would you want to stay if you had to be in competition with Pierre and Jones again, and would you want to be a catcher on a team where you are assured no plays coming from left field as long as Pierre is out there. They better be paid very well to get them to stay or else if I were them, I would be looking for new homes too.
Didn’t forget about Ethier everybody, but does anyone expect we won’t play Jones when he’s owed $21 million and is the “power bat” in the middle of the order? Won’t Borass have some sort of fit if Jones isn’t playing during a contract year. Is there anyone who’s stupid enough to take him off our hands?
Torre will also be in panic mode when he doesn’t have a leadoff hitter. Not sure JoJo learned anything from last year having Kemp leadoff.
Don’t worry, I’m sure Dre and Kemp will make a nice platoon.
Keeping the young team together. I agree. But go all in. Don’t sign Blake. Don’t sign Cabrerra. Don’t sign anyone.
thanks trublu, and dnelly.. i think we’re all fighting baseball depression a little bit here..
they need to pony up to keep those boys.. we all know that.. they’re lucky that they only have 4 arbitration eligible players this year, and only 3 that are impact players (i love repko, but clearly they’re never going to give him an actual shot, they’ll jayson werth him).. guarantees at least an extra year with kemp and loney.. and a couple extra with dewitt.. barring any horrendous trades..
i think we’ve all talked about having money set aside for these boys when it comes time to extend their contracts.. i just don’t know if mccourt is smart enough to have done that or cares enough to.. and i would HATE to find out in a couple years, that the only reason they stuck with the youth movement was because it was their cheapest option as opposed to actually believing in these guys as the face of the franchise..
enchanted.. there are definitely people stupid enough to take jones off our hands.. but mccourt is not smart enough to do it.. paying most of his salary to be rid of him is a good move, but frank will see it as “losing money”
jungar, too late for blake.. but i agree about cabrera
after last year.. after the year before.. again and again.. how in the world do we keep ending up with a kemp and ethier platoon?? if that doesn’t tell you we’re not trying to be winners.. i don’t know what does..
Full year of Jones in center – 200 strikeouts over or under?
The Braves after offering Furcal a $30 million dollar deal want him to think about playing 2nd base……. and, the current 2nd baseman would move to the outfield. You see they already have a shortstop who they didn’t want to get rid of for Peavy. All I can say is, “Huh”?
OVER!!!!!!
Reports that Rafael Furcal has decided to sign with the Atlanta Braves are premature, his agent Paul Kinzer said.
“It’s not done yet, but if he chose right now, it would be Atlanta,” Kinzer said this morning at 9:52 a.m. Pacific time.
Kinzer acknowledged that he told the Braves something similar last night.
“We haven’t signed anything yet,” he said. “We haven’t had an agreement yet.”
Kinzer said he plans to call the Dodgers today to offer them a final chance to re-sign Furcal. The Dodgers have offered the shortstop a two-year contract with a vesting option for a third year. The Braves’ offer is guaranteed for three years and includes a vesting option for a fourth.
The Braves and the Dodgers are the only two teams Furcal is considering, according to Kinzer.
Me thinks the Peavy deal will be on again Tru. At least it’ll get rid of 2-3 sure losses to the worst team in the NL.
Encouraging news – when Jones actually HIT the ball last year, he batted .248.
I think the Peavy deal will be on again too, Enchanted.
ooh, thanks for that kpookiemon.. i wonder if we ACTUALLY have a shot.. i doubt frank or ned ups their offer today though.. i do have to wonder why the braves would want raffy at second.. you do not put a cannon arm like his at second base..
maybe they think they can curb injury if you don’t play him at short.. but i disagree.. middle infield, is middle infield..
You know whether Ned signs or doesn’t sign Ferk, either way we’ll get burned. It’s Ned’s Law (its more powerful than Murphy’s.)
haha, so true enchanted, that i’m crying
enchanted – considering how many times he has struck out down in the DR, I would have to say over if he plays.
Maybe Andruw will stay there!
If we sign OC. That will be the worst infield of all time with Blake, OC, DeWitt and Loney. Don’t get me wrong, I like Blake, Loney and DeWitt but Furcal was the mainstay at SS.
This team has disaster written all over it for next year.
We need a NEW OWNER and GM!
Poor Torre!
ICEBERG RIGHT AHEAD!!!
I say if Frank, Ned and Joe drop the ball on Furcal and Manny, then the Dodgers sign Bonds on the cheap and give a big middle finger to all of baseball!
Line-up:
Kemp SS
Ethier 3B
Bonds 1B
Jones 2B
Loney LF
Martin C
Blake CF
DeWitt RF
Lasorda P
Hey guys – I hear Loaiza’s available to shore up the pitching staff.
Why is it I get the feeling that Eric, Nells and others are busily out there writing songs right now??
enchanted – I have so many songs in my head right now, it’s spinning, not to mention I am in a classroom full of wired 6 year olds who just want vacation to begin. BTW – I would have to assume you are doing the same – LMAO!!!!!
Guess who?
Right on que…….
We’ve paid our dues –
Time after time –
We’ve done our sentences
But committed no crimes –
And bad mistakes
We’ve made a few
We’ve had our share of sand kicked in our faces –
But we’ve come through
We are the Expos – my friends
And weāll need more Scope ā we need to cleanse –
We are the Expos –
We are the Expos
Weāre now just losers
‘Cause we are the Expos – of the league
Frankās taken our team
And all of its pride –
And traded it all in for a marathon
Heās always lied –
It’s been no bed of roses
No pleasure cruise –
We demand that he sell us to somebody –
Who donāt wanna lose –
We are the Pirates – my friends
And we’ll keep on losing – till the end –
Frank is pathetic-
We need anesthetic
For weāve become losers
And we are the Clippers – of the world –
….and there you go enchanted. It looks like Ward Dear was the first one out of the box. Fabulous job dear………LMAO!!!!!!!
OK, enchanted GM
I see a Dodger team and want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see free agents walk and put on other clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
I see a line of cars and theyāre all fifteen bucks
With pennants and cheap beer both never to come back
I see owners turn their heads and quickly look away
Like a deer in headlights it just happens every day
I look inside McCourt and see his heart is black
I see my Dodger team and must have it painted black
Maybe Frankāll fade away and not have to face the fans
Itās not easy facing up when they all hate your ***.
No more will my Dodgers go turn a deeper blue
I could not foresee this thing happening to you
If I look hard enough into Frankās beady eyes
Heāll sell the team and flee before the morning comes.
Hire Eric Karros to call play by play with Steve Lyons!!!
You ask and you shall receive enchanted!!!! Kahli – classic!!!!!!
ALL RIGHT KAHLI!!!!! One more for the San Gabriel Valley!
#460 and rollin’!!!!!!!
I’ll second that one, rnapol!! I like that guy, he’s got a great name.
And that’s one thing they manage to do right, sign old guys who can’t play anymore……
enchanted is too quiet…….
rnapoli – would love to see that happen.
shhhhh!!!!!!!!!! enchanted’s working on his next masterpiece š
Excellent boys!! Definitely ITD classics for the archives.

about two spaces left for good character vets…just what ned likes…as you can see this will be no better than a third place team…with a payroll of about 75 mil. Not counting the 35 mil coming off the books after this year, which will probably leave us with a 50 mil payroll by 2010…the writting is on the wall guys..=(…MCCOURT IS A CHEAP ASSSS…hope he or someone that knows him reads this blog
I just got a text saying the Furcal signing is official…….here we go, again
Boy!!! It got awfully quiet around here……….songwriters are busy, busy, busy…… We will be at 500 in no time.
I’m still laughing at grizzly’s lineup…….it says to bench Loretta Young…….

NedCo – Never leaving our buddyās behind.ā¢
Singing and LMAO!!!! ~ Enchanted Master
Dear Rafael Furcal,
I sincerely hope that you will resign with the Dodgers. However, if you decide to sign with the Braves, will you do us a favor and take your Andruw Jones back with you? We would be ever so grateful .
Sincerely,
Oliver
Oh My!!!!!!!!!!!!! enchanted LMAO!!!!!!! ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!! Enchanted Master you are!!!!!!!!!!
gotta love the by line too…………
Obi – What a way to make a long overdue entrance!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How have you been sir?
j-murray’s projected 2009 starting line up.
——————————————————————————————————-
pierre-LF, cabrera-SS, loney-1B, worthless sack of crap-CF, martin-C, kemp-RF, blake-3B, dewitt-2B, billingsley-P…….i can see it now. i turn my tv on just in time to vomit all over my lap. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, NED, DON’T LET THIS LINEUP HAPPEN.
This is so theraputic……..
Enchanting, enchanted!!! “NedCo – Never leaving our buddyās behind.ā¢” Corporate offices in San Francisco, no doubt. Not that there’s anything wrong with that…….
39 more songs to 500.
Obi, we want Furc to re-sign but we want Frank to resign. English is an interesting language.
I’m fine, thnx for asking Nelly. How are you? I ‘ve missed everyone!
OBI!! and I saw SCurtis up there also.
rnapol – don’t recognize your name, so welcome to ITD!!
Wow ~ i go and run some errands and you guys simply rocked while I was gone. Great job by all of you!!! It’s amazing how the ineptness of our management has brought out the best song writing by everyone. if things keep up this way, we will hit 500 by the end of the month!!
Glad to see you back, Obi. You too, Mapol.
Obi – Life is good as our friend dodger4life would say.
rnapol – you were posting on Andre’s blog back when the Phillies Phans crashed our sites, yes? Welcome to ITD!!!!!
WHERE’S WALLY!!???
Quick question for everyone: with so many teams selling out and changing their uniforms regularly and adding the fad color of the year like teal, black, etc.
Would the Dodgers ever change their classic uniforms with Blue, White and Red numbers? Would they ever change their classic hat…the best looking hat in all of sports?
Call me paranoid, but I would hate the team to change the on-field colors or basic look. I know there have been subtle changes over the years, but the basic look and colors have stayed the same. And many Dodgers gear sold to fans have the new fad colors, but I would be devastated if there was ever a change to the on-field look.
Well dish in keeping with tradition, I heard Frank’s going to go to stylized all capital letters, red with a blue outline…
Dishguy ~ I, for one, would be devastated if the Dodgers ever changed their uniforms. The way things are going this year, though, who knows what the heck Frank will do.

HARUMPH HARUMPH HARUMPH HARUMPH…
Can the McCourts afford tickets back to Boston? Can the McCourts afford tickets to Barstow? Can the McCourts afford to print tickets this year?
Josh is right, the team is far from a finished product. But while Ned’s holding his breath, all the finishing pieces are going fast, and now we’re in the hunt for PVL’s.
Why does this remind me of Mega Maid’s vacuum?
Hey Gang!!! I’ve been very busy traveling and doin’ some chillin’!! Hope everyone of you are doing well and enjoying this holiday season. Guess I’m happy we inked Blake for 3rd. DeWitt at 2nd with Loretta backing up is not a bad move. Still would love to see if Nediot can unload Phew. LOL!!! Some things never change, eh?!!! Ferk thing is still up in the air I guess. Can’t believe the ingrate wants 4-5 years guaranteed. Unacceptable. We basically got 1 maybe 1 1/2 good years out of his 3 year deal. It’s funny, that now he is off in free agency and doesn’t feel a bit like he let us down. Just go for the money.
HEY BEAV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How’ya been my friend?
Wow. Your team has the look of a AAA club. What’s up with that?
Hey Jhall, good to see you around!
Hey NS, thanks, you too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Winter here in Ohio, we hibernate. LOL!!!!
WALLY!!
BEAV!!!!!!!!!
Great songs my brother!!!!
Really Phan, you think we’re that good??
BTW, have fun with Chan Ho.
We’ve missed your tell it like it is style on here jhall. Thought maybe you’ve been stuck in a snow drift somewhere.
LOL!! Yep, we’ve had snow and ice. Really sucks!!!! Needed a little break from the Frank and Furter insanity. It is just so frustrating.
It’s jhall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How have you been, other than cold? It’s good to see you my friend š
Mom & Dad will be happy to see you as well.
Hey NS, what’s shakin?
Hey Beav, interesting that we are not the professionals here, but we would have fared much better these past 2-3 years than Nediot. Coincidence, I think not.
These are trying times buddy!!
Hi Mom!!! Merci!!! Hope you and your family are all well and happy!!!
So true Beav!!!
I guess we still have a shot at Manny and Ferk.
Any fool that has to rebuild 1/3 to 1/2 his team year after year is well, Ned.
Trying times – no kidding!!!! I think this hot stove season is worse than last. We are right back with the same issues we had last winter, but with Andruw smack dab in the middle of it as well. All the talk about Ethier sitting is exactly mirror image of last December.
Wow ~ I can’t believe you’re here, Jhall! Nelly and I were just talking about you earlier………were kind of worried. It’s really good to see you, sir!
Any talk of Ethier sitting is total lunacy. But that is what we have come to expect from NedCo.
Don’t worry enchanted. Chan Ho will be nothing but a bridge to the back of the bullpen on days when the starters struggle. Depth, that’s all, which ain’t a bad thing.
Hey Trumom!!! Still alive and kickin’!!! Always good to read you….. Happy Holidays!!!
Happy Holidays to you too, Jhall!
.
And, Phan, it’s nice of you to come to ITD and try to help us make it from #3 blog to #1!
Yeah but Phan, an old flyball pitcher in your ballpark? I predicted here he won’t last the year in Philly. I just think your team could’ve done just as well or better for the money with someone else.
What happened to our team you ask? The three stooges – Frank, Ned and Joe.
For his career, he’s hitting .286 with 28 home runs, 74 RBI, and a .399 on-base percentage in 103 postseason games, but since 2003, when he first went to the postseason with the Red Sox, Ramirez is hitting .347 in 51 postseason games, with 15 home runs, 48 RBI and a .452 on-base percentage.
—
that’s just absurd.
LMAO!!!! I was just reading what I had missed. Phan 52, like enchanted said, you are reaching high at the AAA status if things go like we think. How are you doing these days in Philly? I guess we have football in common – both of our teams suck in our division. Redskins losing to the Bengals is enough for me to say – “I think our season is over” LOL!!!
LOL Beav!! Unfortunately true.
Wally – Life is good these days. I am just trying to get through the next few days with 20 hyper 6 year olds. There’s just been alot of down time because they are not teachable at this stage in the holiday season so it’s just a matter of maintaining some sort of control with some fun stuff thrown in there. The laughing from reading ITD has definitely helped.
Pretty soon the laughing will turn into crying. Oh, wait, we’ve been doing that already……..so, the next logical step would be to drink a lot………then the pain won’t matter so much.
I’d really like to know how much of this team is due to Ned’s incompetence and how much is due to Frank tying his hands. You think JoJo misses the Yankees even more now?
How are they going to spin this years team? – We’ll be really competitive within the National League teams based in Southern California…
Philly’s good, nelly. Still coming down from the parade.
And I have to disagree about my Eagles. They’ve won three in a row and if they win out, they probably make the playoffs. Nobody will want to play them in January.
Phan52 ~ That is true…..Well, I am pulling for them. Anyone but Dallas from our division is fine with me.
Enchanted ~ I think it has to be Frank because he signs the checks.
Well Tru they say Schmidt rolls downhill.
Good evening all. It seems you are having an eventful time here š
Howdy Amy!
Good evening Amy!!!!!
enchanted – it kind of makes you wondee. aybe all those songs we wrote about Ned should now be changed to Frank.

I thought the friggin holiday ham was Andruw! Thought we finally got rid of him!
Enchanted dear… thanks for keeping us laughing!

Tru- we can make it through the winter. I just want to get back to the stadium. Warm weather and Dodger baseball š good times

Amy ~ I will never complain about the summer heat again! I don’t like the cold and like to see sunshine.
Tru- that is why we are friends. I absolutely hate being cold. in every sense. Give me flip flops, tank tops and Dodger baseball!!!
I’ll drink to that, Amy!!!
the only time it’s good to be cold is when it’s October and the Dodgers are in the Championships!!!!
The way things are going, it will be a long wait for an October championship.

BRING BACK THE BLUE CREW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, in my present state at school, it’s all about Christmas music and “Take Me Out to the Ballgame”, and I would hate to take that sacred baseball song and turn it into a ITD song. Some songs are just untouchable and that’s one of them. Also, I have a song about a chicken stuck in my head which would make a great song, but I can’t get past the visual of actually Frank/Ned being the chicken. Anyhow, so I am left with the myriad of Christmas songs that I am entrenched in every day at school. However, I must say, this is one of my favorites, and it fits our owner pretty well. Also, thank you northstateblues for the help on a word š Here is the youtube link because if you don’t know the song, it’s not just one voice.

He’s too much!!
I never want to see a player
Who’s under the age of thirty
I’d rather have them forty
Fifty, sixty and get them freeeeeeeeeeee
[Chorus:]
He’s mister cheap miser
He’s mister show
That’s right!
[Chorus:]
He’s mister blue miser
He’s mister I don’t know
Fans call me cheap miser
What ever I touch
Turns to crap in my clutch
…too much.
[All:]

Furcal is about to sign with the Braves, WAIT!! The Dodgers are back in the picture. Where have I heard this before? Oh yeah. Sabathia is about to sign with the Yanks and tells Ned that he wants to be a Dodger. Presto, the Yanks up their offer and he’s gone.
Another look at Furcal’s FA journey:
http://www.fannation.com/si_blogs/hot_stove/posts/33082?eref=fromSI
So, you do think Furcal is going to be with the Braves? I am really confused by this whole thing, or is that the point to make us confused. I even got text messages throughout the day saying it was a done deal. He was now with the Braves.
LMAO…
It seems he has two agents, one in LA and one in Atlanta. The only thing for sure is that they seem to be doing a good job of keeping the negotiating going.
Just a little Christmas carol before bedtime – Sleigh Ride.
OUR TEAM BE A STINKINā
.
Just hear that coin purse jinglinā
Pennies clinkinā one-two
Come on, its time weāre drinkinā
Cuz our team be a stinkinā P.U.
Outfield has Pierre lurkin
So Dre theyāll be a jerkinā boo-hoo
Come on itās time weāre drinkinā
Cuz our team be a stinkinā P.U.
.
Jonsey up, Jonsey up, Jonesy up
He blow, should be a freak show
Weāre gonna get another older crow
Pony up, Pony up, Pony up
Weāre sad, our team is so bad
Weāre plodding along, Nedās all wrong
Just a Gnat from olā fairy land (not that thereās anything wrong with that)
.
Frankās checks are nonexistent
From all his resistance its true
Weāre growing old together
Cuz our birds of a feather are glue
Letās take the time to notice
A rousing chorus of boos
But hey our team got betta
Cuz Ned got us Loretta woo-hoo
.
Thereās a cocktail party
At the Yankees office now
But weāre not invited cuz we still have got The Cow
Theyāll be fielding the kinda
Line-up that we all would like to see
But Frank wonāt spend and so our
bubble pops. Pop! Pop! Pop!
.
Itās a happy feeling
knowing players money buys
But when Ned negociates itās
Just that nothing flies
Itāll nearly be like a museum
āRound third base and at short
Donāt forget we spent thirty-six
For a golf ball size of wart
.
Frankās checks are nonexistant
From all his resistance its true
Weāre growing old together
Cuz our birds of a feather are glue
Letās take the time to notice
A rousing chorus of boos
Come on itās time weāre drinkinā
Cuz our team be a stinkinā P.U.
In the words of Tiny Ned – ā Free agents shun us – every one! ā
….or so we think or made to believe. I really hope they are still negotiating.
I feel my work is done for the day now. Ta-Ta y’all.

THINKING DODGER BLUE ALL YEAR LONG
WE, THE FANS, WILL KEEP HOLDING STRONG
HOPING THAT ARE THINKING IS COMPLETELY WRONG
THAT YOU WILL SIGN MANNY BECAUSE HE DOES BELONG
AND SEND JP AND ANDRUW PACKING BEFORE WE WRITE ANOTHER SONG
THINKING DODGER BLUE ALL YEAR LONG
Some more morning Christmas cheer. I think someone has done this song, so my apologies – I donāt like to duplicate efforts, but it kinda just wrote itself: Winter Wonderland
NED & FRANKYāS BLUNDERLAND
.
Cell phones ring, no oneās ansrinā
In New York, fans are dancinā
No players in sight
Weāre bitchinā tonight
Watchinā Ned & Frankyās blunderland
.
On the grass, thereāll be old turrds
In the stands, theyāll be boo birds
Gone are the days
Of our winning ways
Watchinā Ned & Frankyās blunderland
.
Out in center weāve got us a dough man
Letās pretend that he is Manny Ram
Heāll say, ācan you pay me?ā
Weāll say, āNo Man.ā
āBut you can hand out hams when youāre in town.ā
.
Later on, weāll conspire
How to get Nedster fired
Our teams in a plight
Thereās no hope in sight
Watchinā Ned & Frankyās blunderland
.
Out in leftfield weāll watch lilā Juanpy
And on the rail an aged circus clown
Wonāt get many hits from lilā Juanpy
But heās the fastest veteran around
.
When we lose, aināt too thrillinā
But with the dough, Frank aināt willinā
Weāll struggle to play, the old Dodger way
Watchinā Ned & Frankyās blunderland
In the words of Frooge – “every Dodger fan who goes about with āfree agentā upon his lips should be boiled with his won pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart. He should!”
Morning ITDers!!
.
Terrific song Nells!!
Good Morning ITD readers and writers!!!!!
enchanted ~ thank you, and once again, your mind is at work early this morning with another fantastic song – Spectacular!!!! Let’s see what the good people from the Los Angeles Dodgers has for us today. I guess we wait and see what happens to Tex, I am assuming, and then the dominoes will fall for sure. The question will be “where are those dominoes going to fall?”
Good morning All,
.
.
Enchanted Master ~ Is churning them out with his eye’s closed.
Where is the news on Furcal. I thought we would have signed him this morning. We sign Furcal and Manny is next. That would make my christmas. We need a good pitcher and we are set to roll. If Atlanta wants an x-Brave, let them have Andruw back.
Good morning nelly. The Cowboys looked good in beating up on the Giants. I think the Redskins will be watching the play-offs from home. Better luck next year. Dallas may be there also, unless they win their next 2 games, something they don’t usually do in December.
Good Morning/afternoon Boblee – All I have to say is……thanks. I was pretty upset after losing to the Bengals, but I am over it. We lost to two of the worst teams in football (Rams, too). However, I can always hope the Chargers (my #2 team) does something. I just hope your team is sitting on the couch during the playoffs too (jk) LOL!!! It’s good seeing you. As far as Furcal……who knows? ……………obviously we don’t š
red pen —should be “do something” not “does something”
good morning~
did you guys see the article on the homepage about raffy? well, slipped in that article was this line:
“But ownership also has sounded warnings about the potential for the nation’s recession to impact revenues.”
so basically, frank isn’t going to pay for us to have a decent team because he is predicting his future revenues may decrease.. the ironic thing is that if he doesn’t field a quality team, then his revenues will decrease because of that, but he’ll think he was genius for predicting it š
This is just sad Sara, just very sad. I have to go practice for our winter program, but I am sure that statement will bring out the rest of our ITD faithfuls very shortly š I hope you are having a good day š
Thank you sara, for that wonderful lead-in!
With apologies to writers Steve “Jack” Rollins and Steve Nelson and the voice of Mr Gene Autry I give you
FRANKIE THE CHEAPSKATE
Frankie the Cheapskate was a jolly happy soul,
With a empty wallet and a Cheshire smile
And two eyes made out of coal.
Frankie the Cheapskate is a fairy tale, they say,
He was from the east but they threw him out
Now heās here to ruin our day.
There must have been some reason that they let him buy our team.
For when they placed it in his hands
He began to plot and scheme.
O, Frankie the Cheapskate is as smooth as he can be,
He will tell you that he wants to win
Just as long as itās for free.
Thumpetty thump thump,
Thumpety thump thump,
Look at Frankie go.
Thumpetty thump thump,
Thumpety thump thump,
How much does he owe?
Frankie the Cheapskate says, āItās the kids we want to playā
So he said, “Let’s run and we’ll have some fun
Just as long as I donāt pay.”
Down at the ballpark, with the media in his hand,
Running here and there all around the square saying,
āManny is the Manā.
He led them down the streets of gold like most good fantasies.
āI cannot pay him what he wants.ā
And then raises all the fees.
For Frankie the Cheapskate had to hurry on his way,
He said, āItās no con, I know whatās going on,
Whatās the LA Marathon?ā
Thumpetty thump thump,
Thumpety thump thump,
Look at Frankie go.
Thumpetty thump thump,
Thumpety thump thump,
We need to overthrow.
Now this:
“In the latest twist in the saga of the Rafael Furcal negotiations, Furcal’s agent, Paul Kinzer, told reporters in New York today, “Right now I think things are swinging back toward the Dodgers, probably.”
This will come as news to the Braves, who believed they had a “gentleman’s agreement” with Furcal on Tuesday. But that was before Furcal and his people started speaking again to the Dodgers.
Should Furcal actually go to the Dodgers, the Braves are not likely to take that well.
Kinzer was speaking at the Mets press conference to introduce recently-signed closer Francisco Rodriguez, another client of his.”
http://www.fannation.com/si_blogs/hot_stove/posts/33361
REACTION: Anyone who doesn’t see this as just another ploy to get more moolah from Atlanta is kidding themselves.
I haven’t seen a photo of this Kinzer guy, but I’ll bet he looks like Kurt Russell in “Used Cars”.
Bravo Eric, Bravo!!
eric, i agree about the getting more from atlanta thing.. i would have to say it’s tragic that the only mention of us in major free agent negotiations is to bait the other team..
I just want Furcal to be a Dodger and for all the little kids at the stadium to proudly wear their #15 jerseys! We can’t even sign our own players anymore.
At this point, does anyone care about these mercinaries anymore? Ferk makes 39 million for a year and a half of work. 20 mil a years not enough for Manny, so he tanks it to get out of his options in Boston. Schmidt had to know he was hurt but takes 47 million anyway. Ditto with Jones.
Honestly, the only one I have any respect for is JP. At least he wants to play everyday to earn his money and not sit on the bench.
Well said E.
JP really isn’t a bad guy š he just wants to play!
oh amy.. here we go again..
I stand by my JP!! Always~
apparently you’ll have to since there’s no way we’ll ever be rid of him
So Frank is the all-powerful all-wise Carnac when it comes to national economics? Wonder how many of the young guns will end up in pinstripes within the next 5 years when he decides that he likes keeping money more than spending it on players.
I remember this happening in L.A. before with another blue team… not the same way, but the same results… hopefully it won’t be the same end result, thought my girlfriend heard some pretty interesting conspiracy theories last night in my post-semester drinkiness discerned from looking at the most-recent AAA Los Angeles Freeway System map.
C’mon Dodgers, give me something to be optimistic about besides laundry š
Referring to this Seinfeld quote, by the way:
“Loyalty to any one sports team is pretty hard to justify. Because the players
are always changing, the team can move to another city, you’re actually rooting
for the clothes when you get right down to it. You know what I mean, you are
standing and cheering and yelling for your clothes to beat the clothes from
another city. Fans will be so in love with a player but if he goes to another
team, they boo him. This is the same human being in a different shirt, they
*hate* him now. Boo! different shirt!! Boo.
the label maker, fellas, the label maker.”
I do have to laugh though when that video comes up on the home page and you hear Rick Monday say that Ned made “significant progress” during the winter meetings.
If Blake and Loretta are “significant progress”, we’re in for a VERY long season.
nsb, that quote is hilarious..
Ward Dear…………………..JUST A REMARKABLE SONG!!!!!!!
nsblues – thanks for the quote!!! Classic!!!!!!!!!!!!!
North you have the Golden Pen š
Thank you e and Junie!
Let’s talk about the Yankees some more:
“Mayor Bloomberg’s aides secretly pressured city tax assessors to inflate the value of land under the new Yankee Stadium so the team could qualify for nearly $1 billion in tax-free bonds, city e-mails show. In March 2006, the city’s chief tax assessor put the market value for the stadium site at $27 million, far lower than the Yankees wanted. A Finance Department official ordered him to redo the report. Within hours, he jacked up it up to $204 million. The bombshell e-mails raise a big question: Did city officials violate state law, which requires uniform valuation methods for all properties? “This is the smoking gun,” said Assemblyman Richard Brodsky, who has spearheaded a state probe into the stadium deal. “The professionals did their job. The political appointees then ordered them to change the assessment – and they did.” Bloomberg aides have told a state Assembly committee and a House of Representatives subcommittee they did nothing improper.”
http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/81750-did-nyc-help-inflate-yankees-deal#comments
Furcal wants to be a Dodger, and Ned is prepared to match Atlanta’s offer of 3/30 mil with option for a fourth. Furcal wants to be a Dodger, he gets points from me for that, but his history of injury worries me, but it didn’t worry Oakland and Atlanta, two very well run teams.
I tell you what Ward Dear….. I was talking to my custodian this morning about the Yankees because he had to deal with our facilities manager who is a Yankee fan. Their fans are just as bad as they are. They think this is wonderful what they are doing ~acquiring all these players because they can. Maybe it’s just jealousy to a point. If we had an owner who could afford our team, I guess we wouldn’t care.
og, where did you hear that ned is prepared to match atlanta’s offer?
Couple more LA Times articles on Furcal –
Dylan Hernandez 2 hours ago:
http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-spw-dodgers18-2008dec18,0,3565294.story
and one from Simers that’s dated for tomorrow:
http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-subsimers18-2008dec18,0,438192,full.column
If they do manage to sign Raffy, which one is gone – Hu or DeJesus? – they have to come up with some type of pitching.
I dunno, e. Who’s on the market, other than Peavy?
I still like the idea of Juan Cruz for the pen, but I haven’t heard anything about what he might want. He made just under $2 mil last season and I think this is his first shot at free agency.
I imagine we could get Tomko and Loaiza pretty cheap eric. Lurch is a FA. The possibilities are endless…
I was going to cry if Furcal really did signed with the Braves he better signed with us now.
LOL! I suppose it would be endless if we used Ned’s list, which is in reverse order from everyone else’s.
A while back I floated Oliver Perez out there. Someone reacted violently to it (was it og?), but his numbers aren’t much off Ben Sheets’.
And I still like the idea of getting Hoffman, if his demands aren’t too unreasonable. Of course, your and my ‘unreasonable’ are a lot different than McCheap’s.
I’m good with Perez. I suppose Garland could eat up some innings, but why does the name Dave Goltz come to mind there? I do vehemently say no to Johnson and Pettitte though.
Yikes! Goltz and Stanhouse! Brrrrrrrr!
Hey, BTW e, that was a nice set of bookends you posted last night and this morning!
Thank you Eric! – Mom said she dropped me on my head when I was a baby…
She DID? MINE TOO! Do you have the same flat spot on the back of your head?
I got a bald spot – that count?
Sure! Mine’s not bald, but I always wondered why she’d never buy me a ChiaPet for Christmas. Those things look awfully familiar on TV………..
LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU ARE TOO FUNNY BOYS!!!!!!
Then mom must of have dropped me from a third story window because that bald spots rather extensive…

LOS ANGELES – The Dodgers have scheduled a news conference for 3:00 Pacific Time when its expected Frank McCourt will announce that in addition to the hams, they’re also now handing out yams. Though very hush-hush both Frank and Jamie McCourt were all smiles when they quipped, “What’s the main course without a side dish?” Though unofficial, inside sources say that its also possible that they’ll be handing out scented towels as well.
.
Its not expected that these additional costs will increase ticket prices more than 30%.
I read the first line, and fell for it……….just terrible I say – LMAO!!!!! I am guessing a little higher than the third floor – LMAO!!!!
Aw hell Nells, can’t go by me – I’m always the last to know anything… I just heard McKinley was shot.
Hey, where’s TruMom??
I heard this morning that my brother’s wife may have went into labor. She is having twins, and they live here in town. I heard that through my daughter this morning from a text message. So, I might be an auntie to twin girls in a matter of hours, days, etc.
Let’s hope for hour’s, not day’s, etc.

LIFE IS GOOD TODAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations Auntie Nells!!
…….nevermind, it was a false alarm. I just called to make sure, and trublu said she was baby sitting my nephew that’s why she hasn’t been on ITD.
One official involved in the Rafael Furcal negotiations drew this comparison. “First, Furcal was dating the A’s,” the official said. “Then, on Monday night, he got engaged to the Braves. And now, the ex-husband — the Dodgers — has come back into the picture.”
ex- HUSBAND?? weird analogy š
Now, it seems as if Furcal is headed somewhere for $30 million over three years. “If this keeps dragging out,” the official joked, “he might get $1 on a non-guaranteed contract.”
frank, if it’s $1.. do you think you might be able to afford it?
……thanks anyway š It is supposed to happen any day so we shall see….. Life is good today.
buster olney’s thoughts on why the furcal negotiations have been so rocky..
Now, there might be a very good explanation for all this. Here are three possibilities, not all of them good.
1. Because of Furcal’s extensive injury history — he’s missed about 150 games over the past two seasons — his representatives are assuming nothing about whether he will pass a physical examination and are working diligently to create a landing place in the event Furcal’s deal with the Braves dissolves because doctors in Atlanta don’t like what they see.
2. The Dodgers were under the impression Monday afternoon that the offer they had to beat was four years and $40 million from the Athletics — which turned out to be $2 million more than what Oakland had proposed — and they retreated from the field.
L.A. might have been surprised, then, to learn Tuesday that the deal Furcal seemed to be settling on was three years and $30 million, with a vesting offer for a fourth year contingent on whether Furcal plays in 132 games the third year. This is much closer to the two years and vesting option the Dodgers had discussed and back within range of what they are willing to pay. The Dodgers might have re-engaged at that point, and indeed, Dylan Hernandez reports that they increased their offer Tuesday.
3. Furcal might be sincerely conflicted about what he wants to do. He could go back to Atlanta, where he broke into the big leagues, but as Peter Gammons reported Tuesday night, he might have to shift to second base, with Yunel Escobar remaining at shortstop. It might be that he has wanted to remain with the Dodgers all along, and now that their offer might be comparable to what the Braves have proposed, he’s having second thoughts.
minor news:
First Chan Ho Park, now Terry Tiffee! The Phillies have signed Tiffee to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training. The Pacific Coast League batting champion was able to parlay his efforts into six games and four at-bats with the division champion Dodgers last season.
http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/1217gl-ballbark1217-ON.html
Andre was supposed to tour the new Spring Training facility, but it’s been postponed due to rain.
Sara, for some reason, those analogies about the dating and ex-husbands gave me the image of Ned holding up a 1985 boombox blasting Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” outside Raffy’s bedroom window after it was reported he was a Brave on ESPN
Sara don’t forget they had Rudy Seanez last year. They surely love our ex pitchers
FURCAL RESIGNS WITH DODGERS!
Just got this off rotoworld:
Sources told FOXSports.com’s Ken Rosenthal that Rafael Furcal has decided to re-sign with the Dodgers.
That’s where he’ll be happiest, apparently, even though he still has a home in Atlanta. The Dodgers are fortunate to have him back, especially if it’s just for two guaranteed seasons. Dec. 17 – 5:20 pm et

Let’s talk about models for a minute. While walking the runways of Paris and Milan
is a coup, and a Vogue cover holds great kudos, a contract with a global beauty company
is pretty much the Holy Grail for professional beauties across the world.
It means big money, obviously, but is virtually guaranteed to take them from being just another (very,
very) pretty face to a household name.
