One word…WOW

So I spent the day today in Glendale, taking a tour of Camelback Ranch and meeting with my counterpart at the White Sox, Scott Reifert (of Inside the White Sox fame) and I hardly know where to begin. I had heard from a number of people how amazing the complex would be, but I have an entirely new appreciation for the place we’re all going to call home for Spring Training.

Some of the really cool things I hadn’t even realized were in place despite how closely I’ve worked with the project over the last two years include:

A “replica” Dodger Stadium practice field that has the exact same dimensions of our regular season stadium, which obviously helps tremendously when you’re preparing to play in a given place.

An amazing central meeting place beyond center field where fans are going to just want to hang out and take in all that’s going on around them. This is where the lake is that is between the Dodgers’ side and the White Sox side of the campus.

An enormous minor league clubhouse that has got to be four times the size of their current one in Vero Beach. Talk about an upgrade. Wow. This is something our minor leaguers will really appreciate as they try and prepare to reach the bigs.

And most importantly, tons of places where fans and players will come across one another like they did in Vero Beach. That was one of the coolest things about being there and for any of you that had the chance to visit and appreciate that closeness, I expect that it will be the case again at Camelback Ranch.

Those are just my initial thoughts, but I truly hope that you’re all making your plans to come out and be a part of the inaugural Spring Training there. We should be sending out an official Spring Training schedule very soon (there are a few minor tweaks to the one online now that we know the Sox will be joining us this year) but trust me, I think you’ll all be in awe of how impressive this campus really is.

In reading Tony Jackson’s blog I understand that the complex is actually in Phoenix and owned by Glendale.
Reminds me of a section in Manhattan, that is geographically in the Bronx.
When you go between, on the Harlem River by boat, you can see a sign that reads, “This is not the Bronx, it’s Manhattan”.
    .
Oh well, I can’t wait for the winter meetings when, they say, everything will pick up.
Looks like the Dodgers are offering all short term contracts, I agree with that but I think they better load those small amount of years, with a lot amount of money, if they want decent players.
    .
It doesn’t seem like the McCourts have any trouble investing money in other areas.

  2. messagebear@msn.com

I’ll be glad to settle for draft picks in lieu of Manny, Lowe, and Blake. I still want Ned to move on getting us Hudson to solidify second base and Jose Cruz to replace Proctor. I would extend three year deals to both, and I expect it would take that longevity to get them with the Dodgers. I think both guys would give us a big improvement in their positions compared to what we had last year. Then I’m satisfied with sticking with our young guns.

  3. colliethec

    It worked for me!
    .
The time is correct and all. Woo hoo!!!
    .
Maybe this was Josh’s way of grounding us or giving us a time out!!!

  4. ramslover

Has anyone contacted MLB and if so have they said what the major malfunction is…

I honestly can appreciate if Frank is being cautious with the economy….Lord knows I am feeling the pain, but we have to make some moves and we deserve a top Dollar product…Honestly I really do not want Blake back…I appreciate what he did and how he played..but he is 37 or so and not much upside…..I am hoping we get the 2 picks from Lowe and one from Blake and we SIGN Manny….

I really do not see anyone giving Manny the 6 yrs he is looking for ….I think it will be on the Yankees and the Dodgers to sign him….I am hoping for 3 years..

Bear I think you meant Juan Cruz and he is a type A free agent…I would not sign him…..I would rather have Logan use the pick….

  5. ramslover

Josh the new facility sounds awesome…still will miss the REAL DODGERTOWN…I hope the intimacy that you are speaking of translates as it did in Vero…I hope to be able to visit someday.

  6. junkyardjamie

LOL!!!! Grounding us – that’s funny dcollins – LOL!!!! If it were only that easy to get us to shut up.

messagebear – great post as always, and not bad ideas at all – I could definitely live with those.

  7. junkyardjamie

Josh – the new facility sounds great!!! I can’t wait to see it!!! BTW – If you haven’t noticed, we are having a slight problem with our time stamping. Then again, maybe we being grounded for bad behavior.

  8. junkyardjamie

ramslover ~enchanted and I went to mlb.com last night. If you go to the bottom of their home page, their is a “contact us” link. We commented on the problem there. It obviously didn’t affect it.

  9. jhallwally

A less likely, but ideal scenario would be for Colletti to trade one of his expensive contracts (Juan Pierre or Jones) for somebody else’s expensive contract at a position that’s a better fit.

Kind of sums it up gang. Less (read: dam’n near impossible as they are virtually worthless) likely but ideal (no brainer). One can still hope!!!!

  10. junkyardjamie

This is a test of the ITD Historian again checking to see what time zone I am in now, or if I am even allowed on at all.

  11. acardona16

    hello ITD!!!
    .

okay i am SSOOOO excited for spring training!! I’ve never been and i’m really hoping my plans work out and i can go to a couple games!!

  12. junkyardjamie

We are still in a time warp jhall, and we keep getting locked out. Dodger4life can’t get on at all right now.

  13. junkyardjamie

Hey, what do you know, I came back as a pacific timer again. It will only be a short while before I go back to the mountains though. I am getting used to the smell of pine though.

  14. dodgereric

If we’re losing Furc, we have to have the “O”- Dog playing second and leading off. And I’m also with Bear on getting Cruz for the ‘pen. But I want to get Manny or CC. We deserve a big-ticket item here in LA. Four – friggin’ – million people a year going thru the turnstiles says so.

  15. junkyardjamie

…..and not all those 4 million are paying the same ticket price ethier. So, those same people are spending money too.

  16. dodgereric

Good evening June Darlin’! Maybe if we don’t talk about it (crappy timestamping, shhhhh), it will go away……..

  17. jhallwally

LOL Nell’!! Hey Dad/Chevelle”!! Sure hope Ned has learned from his very glaring mistakes. One can only hope!!!

  18. junkyardjamie

Hey Wally!!!! It’s really good to see you!!! We didn’t know if you were lost in the time warp. It seems like Dodger4life can’t get on at all right now.

Ward Dear…… I won’t talk about IT – just maybe

  19. dodgereric

Well HOT DAMN, LOOK WHO’S HERE!! Howdy jhall!!! How ya’ll are?

I’m afraid that what Nediot has learned is to stop spending money entirely.

    It’s a deal, Junie!

  20. jhallwally

Weird happenings these days Nell’. Good to see you also. Moons must be aligned in some sort of strange way. LOL!!!!

  21. junkyardjamie

very weird jhall to say the very, very least.

Dodger4life led me over to Sons of Steve Garvey and Tommy Lasorda was the commentator. He was at Legoland with his grandson I guess, and he overheard Dodger scouts from Nor-Cal talking, and he overheard them say the Dodgers were seriously looking at Manny and Pettitte.

  22. dodgereric

    Likewise Wally!

Funny thing tonight. Matt and I took the truck to our Scout meeting. Not long after we got there he said he forgot to take the trash out at my mom’s, so he takes off. When he comes back, he’s spinning the Chevelle keys on his finger. I said, “What’s with the switch?” He says, “Oh, I thought I’d give you a chance to drive it.” I say, “How much gas in the tank?” He says, “Bout empty.”

    Nothing changes, does it? LOL!!!

  23. dodgereric

That’s an interesting story nels. But didn’t Lasorda also lie to Joe Ferguson back in the day in order to get him to go to the outfield? LOL!!

  24. jhallwally

In reference to Ned and our Dodgers, sometimes the best move is no move. Patience Ned. Don’t panic. Look where it has gotten you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  25. junkyardjamie

No kidding jhall, no kidding!!!!! It’s gotten us Juan Pierre and Andruw Jones to name a couple is what it has gotten us.

  26. jhallwally

Great Arcy, Thanks. Right now I think the Dodgers need to be very cautious and patient. I can live with our kids and homegrown talent next year. See where we are in July and what is available at the trade deadline. Many more bargains then than now. Just a thought and my 2 cents!!!!! However, Neds’ trade and FA signing history isn’t even worth 2 cents!!!!!

  27. acardona16

Dnel – ditto! I’ve never been either and now that its closer I’m hoping I can go!
    .
Jhall – oops that’s supposed to say how are YOU doing? Lol

  29. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

so you guys are posting at 11:45pm, and I’m posting at actual time 10:50pm.. so my posts are being added above yours even though i’m posting it later.. geez, they need to fix this.. QUICK

  30. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

hey jhall! yup, parallel universe it is.. it’s SO weird.. earlier, i was the first to post on this thread.. and when i came back, pierres post was above mine.. because his was on actual time..

  31. acardona16

Eric – not at all!!! I’m trying to do this on my phone and things are really confusing! How are you!? 😛 if it seems like I’m ignoring you I’m sorry!
    .
Okay I think my phone is trippin out cause the posts are all mixed up!

  32. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

alright.. i’m too confused to stick around right now.. plus i have a paper due tomorrow.. my last for the semester.. i should go work on that.. good night everyone!

  33. dodgereric

No, no arcy! I was just playing with the warp. You posted late at 11:31 and again at 11:46, so I thought you were stuck. I tried to play on your greeting to jhall and nelly. That’s all. 🙂 I’m just a dumb ol’ kid sometimes!

  34. dodgereric

Junie, if you can dig this post out of the mess, I liked that article. Baseball prospectus is usually a good, well-thought out read.

  35. dodgereric

And speaking of joepierre’s post way up there at the start of the thread, I loved what he said in his last sentence.

  36. acardona16

okay i agree with sara – this is just a little too confusing lol.. good night everyone!
    .
sara – hi and bye! good luck with the paper! i’m going through the same thing right now! blah! lol good night!
    .
dnelly/jhall – its always great chatting with ya’ll even though our chats are always short lol!

  37. acardona16

Hi Dnelly – I’m doing great! Thanks for asking! How about you? The new spring training place sounds awesome huh!?
    .
Jhall – hello! How are doing?

  38. junkyardjamie

I am doing good acardona – life is good these days….. The new place sounds great. I have no reference point though because I have never been to spring training. So, this will be my first experience going.

  39. junkyardjamie

Oh no!!! can I say that Ward Dear……. I really don’t want to say Oh no!! I want to say What the ……… ?

  40. acardona16

Dnel – ditto! I’ve never been either and now that its closer I’m hoping I can go!
    .
Jhall – oops that’s supposed to say how are YOU doing? Lol

  41. 636566cy

    Josh,
Uh, that sounds great for the team, but even with all of the pumping that the Dodgers are doing, there is no way in the world that fans will be able to be as close to the players as they were in Vero Beach for the following reasons:

    – The dugouts are actually dugouts in Arizona. A definite plus for the players, but it was great being able to chat with the fellas due to the lack of dugouts in Vero.

    – Tickets prices keep the average fan out of the seats closest to the field. Remember, only $20 for the best seats in the house in Vero. In Arizona, even in these tough economic times (“what about the kids”), the cost is just a bit higher…cough, cough.

    – The nice clubhouse is great for the players. However, this will invariably keep the guys inside and thus less accessible than in Vero.

    – “Tons of places where fans and players will come across one another”. In Vero, there weren’t just “tons of places”, but rather the WHOLE DARN place was where fans came across players.

    – It’s not even Dodgertown because it isn’t just the site of the Dodgers, but the freaking Chicago White Sox. Great for the team because of more people to fleece out of…err, I mean, spend their money. Bad for the fans because there will be at least twice as many people yelling, “Hey, Tommy, over here”, or “Hey, Joe, isn’t this better than New York”?

Once again, I realize that I am killing the messenger and you are only doing your job. However, to insult any fan who has been to Vero and say that this place will somehow compare because of all of the amenities is just McCourt-speak. In Vero, the amenities were for all of the fans at the same price. In Arizona, the Dodgers will make sure the majority of their “loyal fans” will know who the haves and the have-nots are making those great amenities available to those who can afford the premium price.

  42. junkyardjamie

Hey!!! I busted through another time warp…..let’s see how long this one lasts.

jhall – I am sure you are in bed….. It was great seeing you.

Ward Dear…. I thought the article was great too 🙂

  43. junkyardjamie

Ward Dear…. Good night and God Bless!!!! See you in the morning, and maybe this will be all better in the morning. Take care….June Darlin’

  44. dodgereric

Hey! I outlasted you! I guess updating Scouts stuff and Fantasy Football was worth something! LOL!

May the Lord Bless you and yours and let’s all hope they can do something with this unworkable situation on this blog so we can get back to our usual nonsense!

    Good night!

  45. junkyardjamie

Good Morning ITD readers and Writers!!

Ward Dear – I see we take pleasure in beating me out in “who can stay up later” contest. LOL!!! (jk) I am glad you got all your work done 🙂

Dodger4life – So glad you made it back to us.

  46. jungar@wsgcorp.com

can we PLEASE loose the Casey Blake sweepstakes…

In 51 games with the dodgers Blake hit

.251 .313 .460 .773 so he has Coletti written all over him. He is a perfect way to waste money but keep dumb fans happy.

  47. jungar@wsgcorp.com

In 51 games with the dodgers Blake hit

    .251 .313 .460 .773

corner infielder with bad defense and we are trying to resign him. Pathetic. But Manny or CC cost to much so lets begin the medicore veteren dodger drive with someone with a sweet beard and a crowd favorite. Nomar is next.

He is a perfect way to waste money but keep dumb fans happy.

  48. kpookiemon

Sometimes I type in the word “Dodgers” on Google to see what comes up. Here was a funny one today, paraphrased from the L.A. Times, December 3, 1968…40 years ago today:

The Dodgers offered the Braves Willie Davis and Tom Haller for Joe Torre and Felipe Alou. The Braves wanted to trade Rico Carty instead of Alou. But the Dodgers apparently didn’t like that combination.

  49. kpookiemon

I see what everyone means about the Twilight Zone posting. My 8;47 posting fell far behind posts that had already occurred???????????

  50. trublu4ever

Good morning everyone! I wonder what kind of surprises are in store for us today? Will it be “submisssion error” over and over, will it be “unknown time-zone” or will it be “No name entries”? This is getting to be a real pain in the a**!!

  51. dodgereric

No problemo, D4. Hope you’re doing well.

One more before I have to give my employer some bang for his buck.

I love reading stuff like this. For goodness sake Ned, pay attention. Or is it just coincidence?

“None of the past 56 playoff teams and only two of the 112 playoff teams in the wild card era used someone 34 or older as their regular shortstop (Omar Vizquel of the 2001 Indians and Cal Ripken Jr. of the 1996 Orioles). Only one team since 1956 has won a pennant with a 34-or-older shortstop (the 1980 Phillies, with Larry Bowa). Keep that in mind if your team employs Tejada or Jeter, both of whom turn 35 next season, or is interested in Cabrera, 34, Eckstein, who turns 34 in January, Renteria, who turns 34 in August or Vizquel, who turns 42 in April.”

Dodger4life – Life is good today, always 🙂 I see you as being in the mountain time zone soon 🙂 ……but you really are in the mountain time zone, aren’t you? This is making my head spin at times.

  53. junkyardjamie

This is a test of your ITD Historian to see what time zone I am in, or if I can get in at all – Thank you!!! 🙂

Here’s one of those guilty pleasures songs – Partridge Family, I Think I Love You: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xl6yXBnLYYM

    LET’S GET A RE-TREAD
    .
Bad, bad, bad, bad ,bad, bad, bad, bad

    .
This morning Ned woke up with this feeling
He didn’t know how to deal with and so he just decided for himself
He wouldn’t spread Frank’s wealth, there’s no two ways about it
Jamie she done spout it when she talked to Frankie said,
    “Let’s get a re-tread!!” (Let’s get a re-tread)
    .
Let’s get a re-tread so what are we so afraid of?
We’re afraid that we’re not sure of a team there is no cure for.
Let’s get a re-tread, isn’t that what this club is made of?
Though it worries me to say, guaranteed is not the way.
    .
    ooh-oooooh-ooh-ooooh
    .
Ned don’t know what he’s up against
Frank don’t know what he’s talkin’ ‘bout
Jaimie ain’t got much green an’ pouts

Let’s get a re-tread, isn’t that what this club is made of?
Though it worries me to say, guaranteed is not the way.
    .
Believe me we really do have to worry
With Neddy in Las Vegas shopping, and if you say, “Hey Neddy don’t” he will
It’s all a bitter pill of which we have to swallow
Will Ned and the boys save face or will they leave town in disgrace?
    Don’t want no re-treads!!

    Don’t want no re-treads!
    Don’t want no re-treads! (Don’t want no re-treads!)

    Great song e!! LMAO!!! #448!

jungar’s tirade against Blake reminded me of something I read on rotoworld yesterday. Here’s the snippet from foxsports.com:
“Agent Jim McDowell said the Dodgers and Twins are leading the way in the pursuit of free agent Casey Blake. I’ve had pretty regular conversations with the Indians, but I wouldn’t say they’ve been as persistent as the Twins and Dodgers,” he said.

    And here’s rotoworld’s comment:

McDowell expects Blake to receive a three-year deal. We expect the team that signs him will regret it after a few months.
    http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playernews.aspx?sport=MLB&line=252446

  59. enchantedbeaver

Thank you ladies and gent! Not really a slow day work-wise, but something that needed to be let out so that my head wouldn’t explode.

Guess that means Blake’s as good as a Dodger then Eric. I’d have maybe given him 2 years if we couldn’t get Hudson to play 2B so that DeWitt could slide back over to third, but then Hudson would cost real money and given all that’s been said of late, we’re definitely going the PVL route again this year.

  60. northstateblues

    hello ITD: Lost Edition

Nothing to say, except Hi, and Go Dodgers!

And for Chad’s sake, FIRE STAN CONTE!

  61. enchantedbeaver

One last sad note – Sure the Yanks have a sweetheart TV deal, and other teams get shiny new ballparks, but this franchise got a sweetheart deal back in the 60’s, so Frank owns the ballpark and parking lot free and clear. They draw over 3.5+ million fans to the park each year paying premium dollar for parking, seats and souvenirs, not to mention the advertising $$ from various entities. Sure times are tough, but why then is this team acting like a pauper?

I said it before and I’ll say it again: If this is a big market club, then spend the money to put a big market product on the field. That doesn’t mean they have to pull a Steinbrenner, but one or two true studs would be in order. If they want to be a mid-market team, then cut prices.

I’d be embarrassed if I were the McCourts.

  62. Dodger4life

Good whatever time it is ITD,
Enchated great song , and great post 🙂

    GO DODGER’S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  63. thinkingblue

Hello all ITD members. Are we still in the Time Warp machine???
    .
Josh the complex sounds fascinating and hopefully I get a chance to visit. But pictures will be great.
    .
Let me be totally honest……I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT’S GOING ON IN DODGERWORLD….this whole Twilight Zone ITD event happening, has not let me blog in peace. Sometimes it lets me in and sometimes it doesn’t. Now when I am in it takes forever to submit my post and I have to check like in a couple of hours to see if it did….turu turu turu turu….freaky!
    .
Well just wanted to say hi and I’ll try and read to see what’s going on.

  64. northstateblues

    Great song Enchanted!

Hi Rose, yeah we’re warped again, but usually you can get in a few good posts before it messes up. I’m posting around the blogs to see if the timestamp issues are central to this blog or others around the mlblog-o-sphere.

Can’t complain with it being free though. At least we’re not paying $15 for e-parking.

  65. junkyardjamie

This is a test of the ITD Historian, team mom and enchantedGM’s secretary to see what time zone I am in or whether I am in at all. I hope you all are having a good day. Life is good today and everyday – time warping or not 🙂

  66. northstateblues

Just took a spin around the MLBlogs world, and sent a few comments. I’m on EST on the CST blogs, and as for my own blog ( http://northstateblues.mlblogs.com , shameless plug), my post was an hour ahead, and in my mlblogs dashboard for my blog, where it has the times of comments listed (i.e. 2 days ago, yesterday, 2 hours ago), it read “56 minutes from now”.

    GREAT SCOTT!

  67. northstateblues

looks at some history from the 1st half of December (since most will probably be submission-errored at some point tonight). These are from “events of the week” aricles and other ones I found on the SI Vault ( http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault ):

    10 Years Ago (12-14-1998)
“As of Monday, Kevin Brown was available. Will the surly sinkerballer make the Dodgers dangerous, the Orioles ornerier, the Braves unbeatable? There are 111 shopping days left until Opening Day.”

    20 Years Ago (12-12-1988)
TRADED: By the Baltimore Orioles, first baseman EDDIE MURRAY, 32, to the Los Angeles Dodgers for pitchers BRIAN HOLTON, 29, and KEN HOWELL, 28, and a minor league player.

    30 Years Ago (12-4-1978)
“SIGNED: By the New York Yankees, free agent TOMMY JOHN, 35, to a three-year contract for a reported $1.375 million. John, a lefthanded pitcher, has a 16-year major league record of 171-133, and was 17-10 for the Dodgers last season.”

    40 Years Ago (12-2-1968)
“DIED: FRESCO THOMPSON, 66, a vice-president of the Los Angeles Dodgers and the team’s general manager, after a long illness, in Fullerton, Calif.”

    50 Years Ago (12-1-1958)
“”The death of Mel Ott last week after an auto accident was an event of only minor historical importance to baseball fans whose rooting interest in the game has been strictly bounded by television. For while Ott was still on the active roster of the New York Giants in 1947, when TV was beginning to establish a beachhead in major league parks, his career as a great player had ended, practically speaking, three or four years earlier, when TV cameras were still in the laboratories.

    [. . .]

The most famous baseball use of the phrase “nice guy” applies to Ott. “Nice guys finish last,” is what Leo Durocher is supposed to have said when Ott was managing the Giants and Leo the Brooklyn Dodgers. Frank Graham, the sportswriter who first wrote the story, said that Red Barber had chided Leo about not being a “nice guy.” Durocher scoffed. “Nice guys. Look at Ott. There’s not a nicer guy in the world than Mel Ott. But he’s in last place.”

Durocher was, of course, wrong in his implication that Ott was a loser. A poor manager, yes, but in his playing days he was a winner, all the way. The point is, even rowdy Leo Durocher recognized the fact that Mel Ott was a man to admire. He was an awfully nice guy.””

  68. trublu4ever

Enchanted ~ I saw that about Brocail. Whew! And Pedroia’s deal was only for $40 million or so……..for six years, that’s quite a deal for the Red Sox! Makes it kind of obscene what some of these players are demanding. 4:07 PM, pst

  69. trublu4ever

Or, Dodger4life, as Charo would say, “Hoochie Coochie”! Don’t know what the heck it means, but it sure sound good!
    4:10 PM, pst

This is a test of the ITD Historian, team mom and enchantedGM’s secretary to see which time zone I am currently in or if I am in at all – thank you!!!

nsblues – great stuff!!! Thanks for sharing 🙂 Also, this must be some big time warp issue for mlb not to be able to fix it – goodness!!!

  71. colliethec

Maybe this is all because they are working on an experiment regarding making us pay monthly or per post on the blog to generate extra cash!!
    .
1st they get us addicted then they charge us!!!
    .
Oh well at least maybe we’ll get CC for it!!
    .
    I hear you Nelly!
    .
Oh and I’m saying that 1st 3 points with tongue in cheek!
    .
I’ve got to go! The Mother Ship is waiting!!!!

  72. junkyardjamie

I am heading to a meeting and then home. Have a great early evening, and I will see some of you during late night, if you dare challenge the time warp. If not, have a great evening and take care…….and see you in the morning!!

  73. trublu4ever

I feel sorry for anybody new, reading our blog for the first time! Can, you imagine what they must be thinking? With all the “leapfrog”, “time warps”, and of course, the”mother ship”!!! 4:57 _PM, pst

  74. Dodger4life

    WE LOVE OUR DODGER’S !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    365 DAY’S A YEAR
    7 DAY’S A WEEK
    24 HOUR’S A DAY
BASEBALL IS A THINKING MAN’S GAME!!!!!!!!!
    GO DODGER’S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  75. jungar@wsgcorp.com

So much depends on Manny for me. Blake with Manny..Sure fine. Ok. Blake without Manny and he will be hitting clean up for us, eventually. Same goes with Furcal. Love Furcal when Healthy, but only take the risk with him if you are going all in. Just Furcal and even CC wont get it done. We need a consistent offense. To go along with solid pitching, solid defense and a good pen. Great Pitch but no Hit dosen’t do it in 2009. Maybe 1979.

  76. jungar@wsgcorp.com

According to ESPN’s Jayson Stark, the Twins and Dodgers both have essentially been told that they’ll be able to sign Casey Blake if they add a third year to their current proposals.

If we go three years on Blake but won;t for Manny then…snap.

  77. trublu4ever

Jungar ~ Yahoo Sports said that about Blake, too. They also say that the Giants are intersted in Renteria. So, no Furcal? Apparently, the offer from the Angels to CC was a bluff in order to get Texeira to come down on his price. (I should say Boras, to loosen up a bit). Lots of talk about other teams and not much about ours.

  78. junkyardjamie

This is a test of the ITD Historian, team mom and enchantedGM’s secretary to see which time zone I am currently in or to see if I am even in at all – Thank you!!!

I hope everyone is having a great evening!!!!!

  79. northstateblues

this feels like those cartoons/Monkees episodes where there’s the hall of doors during the chase scene, and you never know what’s gonna pop out of which door. And like on South Park’s spoof, there’s a waiter who randomly saunters in and out of the hall saying “Sacre Bleu!!”

All of a sudden, I want to find that series “The Prisoner”… be on the lookout for giant pink balloons

  80. junkyardjamie

Ward Dear……..Are you out there somewhere? Has the mother ship come to get you yet? Dodger4life is out of commision it seems, and nsblues is around somewhere, but not sure where. This is getting to be a scary place at night.

  81. junkyardjamie

Well, I guess I found nsblues. He’s wondering about giant pink balloons – a very scary place this is becoming 🙂

  82. junkyardjamie

This is a test of the ITD Historian and June Darlin’ to see if I am still in the pacific time zone and if I am get through the time warp.

  83. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

okay so reading through to try and catch up on today’s posts was quite an adventure.. seriously, people are talking to people who haven’t shown up yet.. there are random things.. it’s quite biazzare..

  84. junkyardjamie

Hi sara – How are you doing? Other than totally confused like the rest of us.

You know we are probably the only blog that is actually experimenting with this time warp. The rest of them probably do one post and they are gone. It goes to show that we care what people think around here, or we wouldn’t be trying so hard to make it stop.

  85. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

hey dnelly, confused yes. but other than that, i’m doing well.. finished up my last paper, and i’m done with school for the semester! yay!

  86. junkyardjamie

That must be a relief – no you can enjoy the holiday season officially now.

I think we do communicate very well, and we are probably going to become even better after living through all of this.

  87. junkyardjamie

Yes, isn’t that great!!! I posted on his blog after reading that – He is something else!!! It kind of makes you wonder what he is doing in Phoenix, just as Andre Ethier. I can imagine him doing things for his neighborhoods there as well.

  88. junkyardjamie

I am doing great Ward Dear……… you are just a busy, busy guy these days. I have a field trip tomorrow to mail those letters to Santa, and it’s a huge walking trip. The bus takes us to the post office, then we walk from there to the county courthouse (historic) where it’s all decorated for Christmas, then it’s on to the county library for storytime, and then we walk to the park for lunch. So, with the exception of the bus ride to the post office and back to school from the park, it’s all on foot, which is great doing by yourself, but challenging with 120 first graders. It’s one of those trips which is great because it actually tires them out.

  89. junkyardjamie

That would be great!!!! Then again, Matt might try to eat his way out of one – LOL!!!!! ……and he wasn’t the one who wrote the letter. It was one of the sweeter ones who is normally pretty good, but seems to have had a few bad weeks lately so I’m not sure what is up.

  90. junkyardjamie

Did you notice that your name doesn’t appear on the right side as having commented at all in the last 15 posts or so?

  91. junkyardjamie

Dodger4life is still stuck in the time warp and in time out still. He is on facebook and wants you to know that he is watching ……. LOL!!!!!!

  92. dodgereric

If I lash him to a bigger kid in just the right position, his mouth won’t be close to any ropes! LOL!!!

    No, I don’t, do I?

    ******************JOSH!!!!!****************

    ***************HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPP!!!***********

  93. junkyardjamie

LMAO!!!!! Now that would be great!!!!!! He is such an Eddie Haskell too. He tries and tries to charm his way into and out of things all…..the…….time. Other teachers have even called him that, and I just laugh because of the reference to ITD.

  94. dodgereric

Hey sara, I’d like to read something about the Dodgers. Is there anything new? You know, maybe about something for the community or something? I’m sure that Either must be up to something.

He sure gets around. It seems like once he’s out there helping others, he just keeps on a-goin’! I’ll bet he’ll play Santa or something. Who knows, electronic stores are very popular nowadays.

  95. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

did you read about the dodger caravan? some of the guys went to the childrens hospital today, some tomorrow, and andre’s going on friday.. and then this:

After Ethier’s visit, he will host 40 pre-selected children for a holiday shopping spree at Best Buy. Ethier donated $2,000 to buy holiday presents for the kids, and Best Buy is matching his contribution.

  96. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

you’re fine.. but all of a sudden.. i jumped forward

    andre truly is a humanitarian..

  97. junkyardjamie

Alright!!!!!! you made it!!!!!! ….and on pacific time too – yeah!!!!!! dodgereric/ward dear saved the day/night 🙂

  98. junkyardjamie

Good Night Ward Dear……… I am sorry you got put in time out. We must have been having too much fun, I guess. Take care and God Bless to you and your family 🙂

  99. junkyardjamie

Dodger4life – the funny thing is that Dodgereric got locked out of here, and I got locked out of facebook for maintenance for a couple of hours- Go figure!!! So, unless we get to stay around on ITD, I am toast!!

  100. junkyardjamie

Hey I thought you were kicked off……you just don’t give up do you? But then, we kind of already know that here about you, don’t we?

  101. trublu4ever

Good morning ITD ~ I read in Yahoo Sports that te Dodgers are looking into adding Trevor Hoffman to the pitching staff….also thinking of Randy Johnson, Andy Pettitte and Russ Springer……..so much for the “Youth Movement”! 7:00 AM, pst.

  102. trublu4ever

Dodgereric ~ good article by Simers. He feels they same way about things as we do here. I posted at 7:00 AM this morning and since the time was an hour ahead, I didn’t even get listed until 8:00. I don’t think this will ever be corrected.

  103. trublu4ever

Dodgereric ~ I know! I’m getting dizzy from all the bouncing around. Interesting item in our local paper: Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter is among the worst fielders in baseball, according to a 10-member panel that includes “Baseball Abstract” author Bill James. “But there is plenty of proof that Jeter can play the field”, countered Matt Youmans of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. ” Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Mariah Carey, Vanessa Minnillo and Scarlett Johansson, among others.”

  104. enchantedbeaver

Morning People!! (Unless it posts on GMT now.)

Russ Springer Tru?? Good Gawd why don’t we sign Jerry Springer instead?

    What’s wrong with this picture:
    .
    • Braves, White Sox complete Vazquez deal
    • Red Sox lock up MVP Pedroia till 2014
    • Giants on verge of signing Renteria
    .
    Meanwhile…
    • Dodgers embark on holiday caravan

    Harumphhh…

  105. trublu4ever

Oh, where, oh where has JuneDarlin’ gone? Oh, where oh where can she be? Lost in the abyss of ITD bloggers trying to get on here! 9:45 am, pst

  107. dodgereric

Hot damn! I’m in the game!

Enchanted, I’m lovin’ your posts. You ought to put ’em together and send ’em to the Times’ letter section. They’re great!

  108. enchantedbeaver

BTW that’s a great picture of Ned on the Dodger’s home page – looks like he just OD’d on Fruity Pebbles.

  109. enchantedbeaver

When asken what his greatest needs were, Los Angeles Dodgers GM Ned Colletti replied, “Biggr bolls! Jeez Frutti Peballs are terwific!!”

  110. dodgereric

No e, that’s a half-second after I smacked him on the back of his skull and told him, “GO TO WORK AND GET SOMEBODY!”

Did you read the article? In the first paragraph:
“Ideally, the Dodgers would like to add an ace, they just don’t want to pay for one.”

    The last sentence:
“But with those free agents representing $64 million in freed salary from last season, it’s a good bet the 2009 payroll will be less than the $120 million of 2008.”

    REACTION: Sell the team, Frank.

  111. enchantedbeaver

When told about the photo, Dodger’s owners Frank & Jamie McCourt responded, “We wanted freakin’ Toucan Sam, but how in this economy can you justify giving him 30 mangos?”

  112. junkyardjamie

This is a test of the ITD Historian, team mom and enchantedGM’s secretary to see what time zone I am in or if I can even come into this blog since I wasn’t allowed on this morning.

I hope everyone is doing well.

  113. junkyardjamie

Well, it’s about time!!!! Good Morning and good afternoon!! I was really out of sorts not being able to say good morning so I thought I would add that in. Great articles everyone!!!!

I am sure it’s already been said, but with the time warping, I can’t tell, but Edgar Renteria was acquired by the gnats.

  114. colliethec

I’m okay with Mickey but his OBP wasn’t all that good last year. I think He’s a year or 2 past his prime. He might even be getting to old for Nedco.

  115. northstateblues

what kind of magic beans will Ned the Giant come home with this year…

I think Dumbo would make a great pitcher in blue. Best part, he works for peanuts, though I heard that if traded to a geographic rival, Anaheim will accept no less than Macadamian Nuts

  116. colliethec

I think Tigger would be good addition. We could sign him and he could bat leadoff. That would allow us to trade JP for some middle relief.

  117. northstateblues

Eric, Bugs has a great attitude, but I fear we’ll end up signing Slowpoke Rodriguez instead, because he wants to be a Dodger, and that’s the most important criteria.

Bugs’ attitude won’t be the problem, it’s his agent, Tom the Cat. That guy would shoot his own mother if it got him some extra cash, poor Bugs can’t see Tom’s selling him down the river. Goodbye Hollywood, hello Baltimore.

And Tom’s wicked with interviews. Just the other day on Dan Patrick’s show, he spoke so fast, you can’t be sure he said anything at all, but I’m convinced that the Maryland area will be best for Bugs, as well as convinced a scented piece of terrycloth is worth what I make in a week.

  118. junkyardjamie

I see we are back to a cartoon team. This time warp certainly hasn’t deterred our creative side, has it? Just absolutely hilarious, but I never expect anything less. You all are just incredible!!!!!!!!

  119. dodger 32

Ned and Frank are right, with this economy and the Dodgers unable to sign any difference makers, the fans should think about their economy before shelling out good money to see an inferior product. If all they can do is add veteran re treads people should just say no to Dodger stadium.

  120. dodger 32

It’s the only way us fans can show our displeasure. People come out and support the team, now it’s time for the team to show it appreciates the fans support, not by going cheap but by bringing in the people that give them the best chance to win.

  121. northstateblues

fliegel, that’s the most amazing thing about this offseason, we’re supposed to pity the owners because after (as brought up by Enchanted yesterday) all the revenue they make from the stadium and parking, which they own, and after going on a spending spree buying up the operating rights to the LA Marathon (and on http://www.lamarathon.com , you can see they moved the race from March to the end of May, another tradition tumbles), they feel they can’t afford to spend money on :: gasp :: The Los Angeles Dodgers?!!!

I get this image in my head reading Jamie McCourt’s pre-thanksgiving statements: The image with her blindfolded at a control panel with two buttons, one releasing Manny, CC, and all other free agents to a snakepit below, and the other releasing orphans, terminally ill children and underprivledged children to a snakepit below.

If she went through the trouble of taking off the blindfold, though, she might see that it’s all an illusion, and no owner of the Dodgers has ever had to choose between one or the other, nor should they have to. It’s not exactly Sophie’s Choice. Put money into the team, fans put money into the McCourts’ pockets, McCourts can give to charity.

But to answer Jamie McCourt’s question on whether it seems a little funny to pay $30 million dollars to a baseball player in these times, I think its a HELL OF A LOT WORSE to ask their hard-working fans to shell out more and more every year when they’ve just said they’re going to tighten their pockets.

No matter what happens to the McCourts or Baseball Players, they’ll have a job, and they’ll have a place to sleep and a roof over their heads. How many of us could say the same?

Do your jobs, McCourts, and put money into making a productive team AND a better community. “It’s your duty, Judy!”

  122. colliethec

Enchanted–speaking of Fruity Pebbles what if we signed her. She could play short and that would possibly coax Bam Bam to sign with us. He swings a big stick! That would take care of our power issues!

  123. trublu4ever

Fliegel ~ Boy, you make a great point! Fans should protest and, if that doesn’t work………STRIKE!!! 3:15 PM, pst

  124. enchantedbeaver

    • Phillies make play for veteran Lowe

    SELL THE TEAM FRANK.

  125. northstateblues

Good news for commenters who love good news:
“Update for everyone: One of the comment hosts was an hour ahead on our MLBlogs server, and that’s been fixed. So no one should have an issue anymore with commenting and a one-hour timestamp difference. Thanks for reporting, and thanks to our I.T. crew for finding that.
    By mlbmark on December 4, 2008 5:28 PM ”

    with a slight provision…:
“Make that “being fixed”…apparently it’s in progress with a minor stubbornness. Bugs have personalities, too.

    By mlbmark on December 4, 2008 5:32 PM ”

    Happy commenting!

  126. dodger 32

I’m reserving judgement to see what actually happens and who they actually sign or trade for, after all they’ve had a very good pay roll these past years and even with Ned’s mistakes have kept the team competitive, but if what I read is true then Frank has to sell the team to someone who actually cares about putting a good product on the field. One of the ways to facilitate that would be if fans stop coming out to games and he actually starts losing money. Time will tell, and the fans will know what they have to do.

  127. junkyardjamie

You changed your name scott – It’s great!!!…not that there isn’t anything wrong with scott – LOL!!!! It’s great seeing you on here again.

I will read the article now!!!

  128. scott_in_arcadia

    Hi nelly!

I’ve tried to get on a couple of times to no avail and then it puts my old dodgers.com message board name in for me. No big deal.

I’m a little skeptical to say the least about the McCourts and Ned this off season.

  129. enchantedbeaver

    Hey Scott!!

Wilson OBPs less than Trigger. Hell Berroa, Hu or DeJesus could do that and not have to give up anything. Why would you trade Hu straight-up even for Wilson?

Hell, let’s trade Kemp, Loney, Ethier and Martin while were at it. Maybe Ned can get us a box of fudgecicles.

  130. northstateblues

    Mookie Wilson?

    j/k

Thanks for the article, Scott. I remember some ITDers touting Jack Wilson earlier in the season. I’m not informed enough to make any judgements, but I’m curious if this means no trying to get Raffy back.

  131. scott_in_arcadia

    Hey E!

I was excited about Spring training being closer until I saw the prices!

I wonder how much the Angels charge?

  132. enchantedbeaver

Wilson’s also coming off an injury where he only played 87 games. He’s scheduled to make $7.25 mil in ’09 with an $ 8.4 mil option for 2010.
    .
And you don’t want to resign Raffy why????

Either you sign the better option or you stick to your guns and let Hu and DeJesus battle it out – its that simple.

These idiots then wonder why the farm system is being depleted rapidly.

  133. scott_in_arcadia

    Hey nsblues,

Jack Wilson isn’t better than the three SS we have. Now you are informed! jk 🙂

He hit .300 about 4 years ago, which just shows how Ned ignores OBP among other red flags.

  134. scott_in_arcadia

Man, I just looked up Wilson’s numbers in case I was being unfair and they’re worse than I thought!

Man, Ned, get your head out of your McCourt!

  135. junkyardjamie

enchanted – Isn’t that kind of been the case for the most part when it comes to talking about Ned? He always gets you all worked up 🙂

  136. northstateblues

    since you asked:
2008 Angels Spring Training Ticket Prices:
    Home Plate MVP $ 24.00
    Field MVP $ 19.00
    Field Box $ 13.00
    Grandstand $ 9.00
    Lawn $ 5.00
    [as per http://www.springtrainingmagazine.com/ana.html ]

Here’s what was paid at Vero Beach last year:
2008 Dodgers Spring Training Ticket Prices:
    Weekday Games $ 18.00
    Weekend & Night Games $ 20.00
    Berm (weekends, nights & SRO) $ 10.00
    [as per http://www.springtrainingmagazine.com/la.html ]

And some other large market or large complex teams, for comparison:
2008 Yankees Spring Training Ticket Prices:
    Reserved Lower $ 25.00
    Field Reserved $ 23.00
    Reserved Upper $ 21.00
    Upper Field Reserved $ 17.00
    [as per http://www.springtrainingmagazine.com/nyy.html ]

2008 Braves Spring Training Ticket Prices (at Disney World):
    Lower deck reserved $ 22.50
Upper deck and bleacher $ 19.50
Lawn (LF) and general admission $ 14.00
    [as per http://www.springtrainingmagazine.com/atl.html ]

2008 Cubs Spring Training Ticket Prices:
    Field box seats $ 22.00
    Terrace box seats $ 20.00
    Terrace field seats $ 16.00
    Grandstand $ 10.00
    Berm/Lawn $ 6.00
    [as per http://www.springtrainingmagazine.com/chc.html ]

No single game ticket prices for the Angels or Dodgers this year so far, and didn’t bother looking for the other 3.

  137. enchantedbeaver

So what we’re seeing already from McCourt from ’08 to ’09 ST prices is a 50% increase in decent seats ($20 to $30), unless you want the all-inclusive scented muskrat which pumps the price up to $90.

    ATTICA! ATTICA! ATTICA!

  138. junkyardjamie

LMAO!!!!! I am heading home…… I will catch up to all of you later, and if you are not part of ITD evening or late night, have a wonderful evening!!!!

  139. enchantedbeaver

You realize of course that Wilson wouldn’t solve the lead-off problem either, so now we’d have Trigger and Buttermilk (2 dead horses) OBPing less than .320, maybe only .300.

It simply amazes me that Ned still has a job.

  140. sparkleplenty_1

Hi all. Hopefully I won’t get kicked off (again) before finishing this post . . .
    .
E, I share your amazement. I’ve found there is only one profession that gets it as wrong as Ned and still has a job . . . our friendly meteorologist! The major difference is that they use computers, statistics, averages, etc., to make their guesses. Not sure what Ned uses – maybe flips a coin.

  141. junkyardjamie

Trigger and Buttermilk – that’s is just too funny, enchanted, sad but just funny.

Hey diggie!!! Our meteorologist keeps telling us the clouds and fog are going to go away by the afternoon. He’s been saying it all week, and it is yet to happen.

  142. enchantedbeaver

So in otherwords we probably could’ve gone Hu and a 2nd tier prospect for Greene. Now THAT I’d probably do. No reason for SD to try and rape (betcha that gets censored) Ned since there’s no way they’re going to be anything but bottom feeders in ’09 anyway.

  143. junkyardjamie

All the things you were saying earlier today were funny, but also very sad enchanted. It feels like we are just sitting around watching everyone else make deals while we are standing on a wall watching party after party. Also, what about Russell and Andre’s contracts? They are both up for arbitration as well, and we haven’t heard a word about them.

  144. trublu4ever

It is sad making us, loyal Dodger fans, suffer while everyone is starting to wheel and deal! I do think, however, we will get someone important………an impact player. Wake me up if I’m dreaming.

  145. enchantedbeaver

I can understand McCourt being gun shy about big contracts, but let’s look at the common denominator to all of the deals that went bad – Ned.

    • Schmidt – Ned knew his history and saw the drop in velocity. That should’ve been a red flag. Still, by hiring Conte it gave Ned a false feeling of security thinking he’d be able to keep all his creaky vets going like he did with the Giants (not to mention he’s a quack.)
    .
    • Pierre – A knee-jerk (maybe omit the knee part) reaction to the Princess opting out. Theoretically, he didn’t need a leadoff man – he had Furcal, so why a [no] punch and Judy hitter? The Rox, Marlins and Cubs all had him and let him go. His popgun arm was certainly no secret around the league. I still think the real reason we ended up with him was because Ned thought he was one-upping Sabean.
    .
    • Jones – This one defies all logic. OK, he tailed off the year before. Worth a chance – sure IF HE WAS IN SHAPE. How could you look at this guy before he signed a contract (assuming he did actually meet with him beforehand) and still make the offer? How could Conte pass him on his physical? All this did was compound the Pierre mistake and take playing time from two better players.

Its also obvious through his many other deals that he cannot evaluate talent. Ethier I’m convinced was a deal that backfired on Beane, and Manny was handed to him on a silver platter.

It still doesn’t excuse McCourt for running this team like a second-rate franchise. If they want to be philanthopists, that’s great, but figure out what side your bread’s buttered on to allow you to be one.

Which brings me to the point that you should at least know baseball if you’re going to be an owner of a baseball franchise. What we have is an owner who doesn’t know baseball, a GM that can’t evaluate talent, and an antiquated manager that can’t manage in game situations.

Why are we spending $3-4 million a year on a manager? Managers are a dime a dozen and 90% I’d surmize have a better in game record than JoJo. I don’t give a rats rear-end if the players get along in the clubhouse, I want them to take the field ready to kick your A, but I digress.

But I guess its what we should expect from this trio – PR all the way. Want a premier player? – here’s Schmidt, Pierre and Jones. Trouble is McCourt (and I suppose Ned to some degree as well) thinks that just because you spend top dollar you must have gotten a premier player. Tracy, Little – who are they? – hey look, we got Joe Torre – now we must be good.

Now we’re talking about Wilson and Johnson and Hoffman while down the road a few miles they’re talking about Teixeira and CC and Manny. SOS, different day.

What it must be like for fans who root for organizations that actually know baseball and know what they’re doing…

  146. trublu4ever

E ~ You have every right to be a “little peeved”! For goodness sakes, anyone who is a die-hard Dodger fan is REALLY PEEVED!! I want us to be a first class franchise and, as you say, Frank and Ned are not the two who can do it for us.

Enchanted – just slightly (NOT) ~ I would say alot peeved – LOL!!!!!!

If you are going to be the big boy franchize, then cough up the money. If not, let the kids play and build from within. Don’t go half-a**ed and get stuck with the same garbage that we have in Pierre, Jones and Schmidt and still paying top dollar.

  148. trublu4ever

Just read on Yahoo Sports that we are NOT interested in Pettitte, according to Joe. And Jayson Stark’s ESPN blog says we are still talking to Furcal but if that doesn’t work out and, he should go to the “A”‘s, we would work on getting Casey back or go after Beltre or Ty Wiggington. They also said we haven’t made an actual offer to CC but would if he said he wanted to pitch for us.

  149. enchantedbeaver

You know, people probably wonder why after a post like that, that I bother being a Dodger fan at all. I’ve tried getting into the Angels – afterall they are in the other league and there’s not more than 6 games of conflict of interest. And when I see they won I’m like, “that’s cool”, but do I get upset and want to kick the dog when they blow a 5-run lead? Do I really care when they come from behind in the ninth? Do I even know their roster?

Spouses come and spouses go, but I married the Dodgers for better or worse back in ’74 in what has become a forever committment. I suppose they could lose 161 games and I’d still be there rooting them on, bitching of course, but I’d be there because they are MY team. McCourt and Ned and JoJo aren’t going to change that.

But it sure would be nice for a change going from day to day not dreading what this organization does next.

  150. junkyardjamie

enchanted – I don’t think a single person , who is a regular, on this ITD blog would ever think of you as anything other than just truly passionate about this team. I don’t think there is a single person on this blog that doesn’t have some of that passion in them, or else why would we be here on ITD, or why would we be frantic over the fact that we can’t post when we want to, as has happened over the last week with the time warp. It’s just passion pure and simple 🙂

  151. kpookiemon

I don’t let the media trouble me with rumors. When the smoke clears in February, we’ll take stock of what Ned, Frank, and Jamie have wrought upon Dodger fans. Until then, I’ll “assume” Manny will be back, the kids will play, and Pierre and Andruw will retire, giving back all their unearned pay to charity. And the DOW will hit 13,000 while we’re at it……………………………………….

  152. enchantedbeaver

    Here’s a question if you’re a player:

Obviously the market is somewhat depressed this year because of the economy. Say you’re Furcal. Do you sign a 4 year contract at $40 mil, or do you take an incentive laden contract for 2 years that could earn you $14 mil per year, then take another run at free agency in 2011 when presumably the economy is back on the upswing?

I would think that if you feel you’re truly healthy, you’d go for the latter.

  153. junkyardjamie

Do you think these articles are coming out to kind of gauge the fan reaction? It’s weird how these articles appear, and then nothing comes of them, especially the ones we have disagreed about such as the Wilson one.

  154. kpookiemon

    It’s a Dodger affair, it’s a Dodger affair.
    It’s a Dodger affair, it’s a Dodger affair.

One Centerfielder grows up to be
Somebody that just loves to whine
And another Centerfielder grows up to be
Somebody who gets fatter with time
Joe loves the both of them
You see they’re two of Ned’s
Both Centerfielders are good to Joe
“PVLs are better than the kids”

    It’s a Dodger affair, it’s a Dodger affair.
    It’s a Dodger affair, it’s a Dodger affair.
    What of it?

    Newly loved six months ago
But Manny’s still checking the dollars out.
    Hey!
    Derek Lowe wants to blow
Brad Penny wants to be left out
Raffy can’t leave, ’cause his heart is here
But he can’t stay, ’cause his money’s somewhere else!
Frank can’t cry, ’cause he’ll look broke down
But he’s cryin’ anyway ’cause the team’s all broke down!

    It’s a Dodger affair, it’s a Dodger affair.
    It’s a Dodger affair, it’s a Dodger affair.

  155. jhallwally

Hey Nelly. Yep, just chillin’ and enjoying the holiday season. Hope all is well with you and your family as well as everyone on this blog.

  156. junkyardjamie

kpookiemon – that is fantastic!!!!!! LOL!!!!!

jhall – Life is good 🙂 Same here, getting ready for the holidays both at school and at home.

  157. junkyardjamie

jhall- the time warp got cleared up sometime this afternoon finally. It was an mlblog issue as reported by northstateblues.

  158. jhallwally

Nell’, glad to hear it. I Love Christmas. It is great to see the kids this time of year. That is truely what it is about.

  159. junkyardjamie

….and adults too 🙂 I actually had a few kids in their letters to Santa ask Santa who his favorite baseball player/team was – it was very cute. I was telling Ward Dear that these letters actually get read by some non-profit group and some get answered so it will be interesting to see if those get answered.

  160. jhallwally

Very Cool Nell’!! We always do some benefits for the Toys for Kids. It is very humbling when you send some toys to the less fortunate kids and reflect on your good fortune.

  161. junkyardjamie

That is awesome jhall!!! Last year a colleague and I adopted a family from our classrooms (we shared twins). It was a wonderful feeling. I don’t have any students that are that needy this year, but I tend to go over board with my class anyway.

  162. jhallwally

Bless you Nelly. We need to live Christmas throughout the year. True need is not seasonal. I hope Obama can get a feel for this.

  163. junkyardjamie

jhall – I was at a Christmas get together of all the non-profit organizations from theater and symphony to crisis centers and that was the number one discussion – the economy and housing. It’s affecting everyone.

  164. junkyardjamie

Thank you jhall – it sounds like you are doing many of the same things so my hat is off to you as well my friend.

  165. jhallwally

Education is our future!!!! The sooner our people and government realize it, the better off we will be as a a nation and society!!!!!!

  166. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

dnally, you and eric are SO smart!! you guys were just reading my mind last night!! so perfectly!

  167. junkyardjamie

jhall – education is our future, but the government (especially our state) has thrown the money into the wrong programs. The afterschool program has more funding than some classrooms have. We have one on our campus which is free to students and their access to materials is phenomenal while I have to get permission to get anything beyond paper and pencils. It seems like the better our school becomes at test scores, the more money they take away from us, when it was the money (really people resources) that got us there to begin with. That is the frustrating part of it.

  168. junkyardjamie

Sara – yes, we were really playing with it last night, weren’t we until eric got kicked off. I guess they thought he had played enough – LOL!!!

  169. colliethec

Hello there Wally! Whut up Sara!
    .
I trust all is well with everyone!
    .
It feels like we are all coming home from different dimensions!
    .
    Strange happenings on the blog!
    .
I hadn’t had any issues unlike most of you. That was until today. It kept giving me the Mountain Time and the submission error. The submission error I was getting was saying I had posted to many times?
    .
    Boy talk about silencing us!!!
    .
    Isn’t this America???
    .
    Just kidding Josh!
    .
I wonder if he reads all this stuff and laughs or wants to set up a ITD tour, lead us down some dark alley in the hollows of the Ravine and have someone jump us!!
    .
I hope he laughs!! Then just gets us a ITD tour minus the jumping part.

  170. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

haha.. yeah.. the timing of it all.. sigh.. it really has been a weird few days.. i forgot what it’s like to read posts in order!

  171. colliethec

Yup Nelly. I don’t know what happened but Wifey said I was laying on the couch for 2 days mumbling something about Juan P., Nedco & Bugs Bunny. I’ve got a splitting headache and I’m all dressed in blue & white.
    .
    Can someone answer what gives???

  172. enchantedbeaver

Hey DC, there’s only going to be a few of us that Josh leads down the ravine to jumped. I’m the head of the line!!

  173. colliethec

CNN just had a Breaking News that there were some UFO’s possibly black choppers in the air in New Mexico!
    .
Quick E… grab the cuervo and run!!!!

  174. junkyardjamie

LMAO!!!! Well, at least you didn’t wake up in black and orange LOL!!!! Then I would have really been scared 🙂

  175. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

enchanted.. those posts this morning about what the dodgers have been doing while other teams are improving were so perfect.. sigh, what are we going to do about our organization!!

  176. dodge1612

Franks dreaming of a cheap christmas,
with all the money that he wont spend
With the free agents leaving and us fans groaning
    to hear furcal signs elsewhere

franks dreaming of a cheap christmas,
because hes building fields for all the kids
Where Jaime’s saying and franks agreeing
to say manny is to expensive

franks dreaming of a cheap christmas,
with every contract he doesn’t have to pay
May your days be fearful and dark,
and may all your christmases be cheap

franks dreaming of a cheap christmas,
just because he doesn’t want another jones
May he only pay a little not sing CC
and may all your christmases be cheap

  177. dodge1612

its been a long time… thought I would cheer you guys up with a christmas carol about our team and the cheap owner… Hope everyone is doing great.

  178. dodge1612

oh man its good to be back… I have another song but ill post it tomorrow about to go eat all you can eat panda express buffet style woo hoo… franky sign some freaken talent already…

  179. enchantedbeaver

Yes Nells. I never owned any 45s though. All mine were LPs. I grew with the times though – I even have some of those new-fangled CDs.

Its a bitch getting the needle to stay on those though.

  180. junkyardjamie

LOL!!!! We still have one of those old stereos with the phonograph (inherited from my in-laws). It’s like a piece of furniture. I was collecting the albums for a little while, but moved on to baseball cards.

  181. dodge1612

ok ill post this… what I want our starting 8 to look like on opening day

    c. martin
    1b. loney
    2b. hudson
    ss. furcal
    3b. dewitt
    lf. Manny
    cf. kemp
    rf. Ethier

    sp. billingsley
    sp. kuroda
    sp. kershaw
    sp. Johnson
    sp. schmidt/McDonald

its not astronomical and could happen…

  182. junkyardjamie

jhall – what are you going to do, though. I am obviously not in this profession to make money, and I spend more than my share of my out of pocket money on my classroom. However, it’s because I want to. Nobody has forced me into this profession, and just like everything, the pendulum will swing back the other way eventually and testing will not be the only determining factor in how kids are doing in a classroom.

  183. enchantedbeaver

I could go for that Dodge.

Someone needs to do the Nat King Cole Christmas Song ITD style. I can’t get past the first line:
    .
Ned’s nuts roasting on an open fire…

  184. junkyardjamie

LMAO!!!!!!! Boy, you really have been on a roll ALL day!!!!! Well, that’s an image that won’t be forgotten anytime soon 🙂

  185. junkyardjamie

Well, we have been pretty much experiencing Silent Nights, both in terms of the Dodgers lack of moving on anything and ITDs recent time warp issue.

  186. enchantedbeaver

Well, looks like bedtime for Bonzo. Nice chatting with you all tonight!! I’ll catch you on the flip side…

  187. junkyardjamie

    67 Days until Spring Training!!!
Can’t wait for our boys to start playing!!!
Hopefully our young guns will all be staying!!!
Can’t wait for our boys to start playing!!!
    67 Days until Spring Training!!!

Good Night and God Bless to all of our ITD readers and writers!!!!!

  188. trublu4ever

Good morning ~ Oh, Enchanted……want to get a little more miffed…….rumor has it that the Yankees want Matt Kemp for Robinson Cano.

  189. junkyardjamie

Good Morning, ITD readers and writers!!!!
Just checking in before heading out to yard duty in the cold fog.

enchanted – all I can say to trublu’s comment is that maybe it’s time for you to write another song. Maybe that will help. Then again, I am sure you know where to find the Cuervo 🙂

  190. junkyardjamie

LOL!!!! See, enchanted’s Cuervo and Dodger4life’s beach and ITD is set for celebration or one giant bitch session.

  191. junkyardjamie

I am freezing here, and I just checked out the weather forcast for our ITD friends to get perspective. Looks like jhall is the coldest right now at 21 degrees in Ohio, who beat out Dodger4life in Idaho at 29 degrees. It looks like Ward Dear is the warmest at 53 degrees and the rest of us morning people are in the 30’s.

  192. thinkingblue

So are we still having the time/loggin in problems here at MLB? It has been very fustraiting visiting ITD…nothing to do with ITD members but all to do with MLB. Hopefully the problems is solve and we get to now really enjoy our ITD fun.
    .
Good morning ITD – Dnel & TRU! I see Ned has his hands busy.
    .
Well Cuervo does help to write fun songs….LOL!
    .
I hope everyone is having a good day today. I’ll be checking in a bit.

  193. trublu4ever

Oh, Enchanted, the Yankees and Red Sox are meeting with CC’s agent……….I guess that means we aren’t!

  194. enchantedbeaver

If the Dodgers trade Kemp, they’d better get a lot more than Cano. That would leave us with an outfield of Pierre, Jones and Ethier.

  195. kpookiemon

Just to get the rivalry going…and get my mind off the Dodgers…my early Christmas present for Uncle Pete Carroll is a trip to the Holiday Bowl. GO BRUINS!!!!!!

  196. Dodger4life

    Good morning ITD,
Yes Nelly it is 29 degrees frost, has hit the Treasure Valley, this morning first time this year. On a positive note the sun is shining bright and I am in shorts and a plain white t- shirt, enjoy your day everyone.
    Life is good today 🙂

  197. junkyardjamie

Great Dodger4life -I am glad you have sunshine. It’s 34 here with fog in which we haven’t seen the sun all week. However, Life if Good!!!

  198. junkyardjamie

Okay, if I have to choose for the rivalry week, I am going with USC for the football. If it were a basketball game, then it would be Bruins all the way. I am sorry, I like both teams – it’s hard to choose, but I know someone who played USC football, and I know some who played UCLA basketball.

  199. crzblue2

    Hello ITD!
Long time no talk to you all but I read daily!
    .
    USC! Fight On!!
I’ve been following USC since back in the days of John Robinson. I got my USC shirt on today. But I must say that because of someone I know and used to take me to a few basketball games, I do root for UCLA basketball.
    .
I am going to work’s Xmas party tomorrow but I actually wish I would not have sign up for it. What I am excited about is going to the Fabulous Fiftieth Dodgers celebration for season ticket holders! I think is about time they do something for us season ticket holders. They are also asking to bring non-perishable food for the food bank and or toy for Toys for Tots. I think I’ll buy a baseball glove. The bag of food I already have it ready.
    .
I was looking for an old email and found this:

Did you happened to see Charlie Brown Saturday evening? It was about Baseball and trades.
Charlie Brown and Schroeder are trying to get rid of Lucy, their worst player. Peppermint Patty has the same problem with Marcie so she calls Charlie and says “How about a trade Chuck? We send you Marcie + a pizza for Lucy. Of course, Charlie junps at the opportunity. After Peppermint Patty sees how bad Lucy is, she calls Chuck and wants Marcie back. Chuck says “BUT I ALREADY ATE THE PIZZA”. LOL.

  200. northstateblues

according to the Blue Notes blog on the L.A. Times sports section, Buster Olney (in an ESPN Insider blog) said that Manny would be filthy rich for a year if he accepted arbitration, based on the numbers he put up last year. Of course, it’d only be for a year, but I think it’d be in Manny’s best intrest to take the amount of money no owner in these times would offer, and it would be in Borass’s best interest to try again next year, when the economy might’ve bounced back a little, or maybe even give Torre Manny for the two years left on the Ol’ Magician’s contract.

    Just a thought.

Speaking of pizza, time to get ready for work. See you later!

  201. trublu4ever

I read that too, Northstatblues. I think since there aren’t any other teams interestd in Manny right now, he’d be a very wise and wealthy man to take the arbitration.

  202. enchantedbeaver

Manny might also be wise then to take the guranteed 45 mil for two years he was offered.

SF signing Renteria also means that its really down to the D’s and the As for Furcal. Unless the A’s plan on keeping Holliday for awhile (which I doubt), I can’t see a point in them signing Furcal to 4 years.

  203. trublu4ever

    Fun video Dodger4life.
    .
Enchanted ~ I have a feeling that Furcal will stay with us for less than 4 years. I’m wondering if Holiday is a rental for the winter meetings……..Oakand likes to buy and then trade.

  204. enchantedbeaver

Think Nells actually did that song D4. If not her I’m pretty sure someone did.

Beane’s sell off last year wouldn’t indicate he’s trying to build an instant winner, so you’re right Tru – he’ll at some point sell Holliday for a king’s ransom. My guess is that he’ll put the pinch on someone at the trade deadline that’s desperate. That’s why Holliday was such a typical win/win for Beane. 1. He got him pretty cheaply. 2. He may put a few extra butts in the seats. 3. He’ll be able to sell him high at the trade deadline. 4. If he keeps him all year, he’ll get two picks for him when he goes FA after the season.

See – this is what a good GM should be doing – putting his team in a win/win situation. The ONLY way Beane loses is if Holliday gets majorly hurt.

  205. enchantedbeaver

Its more natural if you sing this in Nat King Coles voice:

Ned’s nuts roasting on an open fire
Frank he’s paying through the nose
Jamie plots with her eyes all a glow
And fans will find it hard to sleep tonight
    .
They know that Ned is on his way
with a list of PVLs he wants for us to play
    And ev’ry ITDers gonna cry
To see if some of Neddy’s deals really fly
    .
And so ticket prices Frank’s gonna raise
In percents from one to ninety-two
Although its been said many times many days
    That with NedCo we-er-re screwed.

  206. colliethec

I guess we wont have Maddux pitching in La this year.
    .
Or anywhere else for that matter. He’s retiring.
    .
    Go Blue!!!

  207. junkyardjamie

I knew you had that song in you enchanted!!!!! I still can’t get past the first line without laughing, so I am glad you were able to conquer that goal. FANTASTIC JOB!!!!!!

What song did I do? I can’t do you tube here at school. If it’s margaritaville, yes I did. It was called Torreville.

  208. colliethec

There is some more movement on the Hot Stove for our beloved Dodgers.
    .
Looks like Sweeney might be going to the broadcast booth.
    .
It was on todays ESPN Insider Rumor area. I’m not an insider so I didn’t read it in full.

  209. junkyardjamie

enchanted – what you said about the A’s is exactly how their fans feel. I work next door to one of their biggest (and disappointed) fans. They know Holliday is not theirs to keep, only a rental for a big payout later. They are still mad about Swisher, and now that he is a Yankee is just sad to them.

  210. enchantedbeaver

Awesome – now Frank and Ned are using their heads. They can stash Sweeney away in the broadcast booth and bring him back mid-season as a PH extrordinaire without giving up anything – brilliant!!

I have to say it – Without Ned, where would we be???

  211. jungar@wsgcorp.com

    Talk about Charity work.
    —-

The average salary in Major League Baseball this season was US$2.93 million, the players’ association said Thursday in its annual report.

The New York Yankees topped the major leagues in average salary for the 10th consecutive season despite a disappointing year in which their streak of post-season appearances ended at 13. The Yankees’ average of $6.86 million was down from a record $7.47 million last year.

The Chicago Cubs were second at $4.68 million, followed by the Los Angeles Angels ($4.56 million), the Chicago White Sox ($4.5 million), the Los Angeles Dodgers ($4.37 million), Boston ($4.2 million) and Detroit ($4.15 million). The Toronto Blue Jays were 15th at $2.8 million.

Hahahahaha says the Phillies and double, triple, 20times the haha says the AL champion Tampa Bay Rays who were 27th at $1.59 million.

  212. thinkingblue

Ned’s nuts roasting….LOL love it, well written, E you deserve an Emmy but the Emmy statue will be a Nutcracker! Just in time for the holidays….!
    .
Sweeney well finally …we’ve been heard again. Yeah! So hopefully he does a great job over at broadcasting…good luck Sweeney. Make it fun!
    .
Maddux…should retire…he has been excellent. Good luck!

  213. Dodger4life

I just read the article on Greg Maddux retirement.

Greg it was a pleasure to admire your talents all these years. You will be missed on the field of play

I wish you more success and happiness in the your next venture.

    Thankyou Dodger4life.

We are blessed to be albe to call you a Dodger as well 🙂

  214. northstateblues

According to the new e-mailing (the one about Blue Friday), the Dodgers won’t have the Blue Crew next year. Now, it’s the Junior Dodgers. I always thought Blue Crew was more original, and have often thought the Giants’ youth fan club, the Junior Giants, was an unorignial, uninspired name.

I know it’s still gonna be the same basic club, but Blue Crew has a much better ring to it than Junior Dodgers. Plus, the crest for the club is a blue shield with Jr. Dodgers written on top, and on the bottom, two big letters: JD.

I only think of 2 things when I see those two letters.
    1.) The Drewish Princess
2.) What would help me get through this eerily silent Hot Stove season.

And best of luck to Sweeney in the booth. Seems like a great guy, and everyone in the clubhouse seemed to like him, just had the same problem last year that I did my minor league Little League year, a Batting Avg that begins with a goose egg. And looks like we’ll had the same solution, too. Retirement from baseball.

  215. junkyardjamie

Hey nsblues!! I thought the same thing when I saw the Junior Dodgers symbol/name, and I immediately thought another “gnat” (boring) idea that has infiltrated our Dodgers – Are you kidding me?!
