The Hot Stove is burning…

As always, Jon Weisman at Dodger Thoughts has a very good caveat for enjoying this time of year if you’re a baseball fan. I, too, thought it was rather odd how every major media outlet jumped all over a supposed conversation with one person who supposedly had knowledge, but I guess that’s part of the fun of this time of year. In any event, Jon says it better than anyone, so check it out.

Also, there are three cool things coming up at Dodger Stadium that you might or might not know about. The first is the Madonna concert on Nov. 6. For those who haven’t heard, she’s performing here next week…that’s about all I can add on that front.

The second is a chance to take batting practice on the field, with Russell Martin and Andre Ethier serving as instructors. The event is called “Under the Lights” and I know how many Ethierholics there are here (that’s your term, not mine!) so check it out.

And finally, there’s an event going on this Saturday — the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s annual walk, which is one of the primary fundraising events for JDRF in Los Angeles.  I have to be up front and honest here – I recently joined the board of directors for the LA chapter of JDRF, so obviously I think this is a very noteworthy charity. It was brought to my attention by former Dodger Todd Zeile, whose daughter, Hannah, battles Type 1 diabetes every day. Adding to the grandeur of Saturday’s walk is an appearance by Nick Jonas (for any of you with kids or those of you who are Jonas Brothers fans). Plus, it’s a reason to come to Dodger Stadium in early November!

Anyway, if you would like to donate to the JDRF, here’s a very easy link and I know a lot of people who would be extremely grateful for your big hearts. You can donate at the main site of JDRF or the site I’ve started to help raise money, which is here.

Thanks for the new thread, Josh. I’m sure you will have many Ethieraholics and Martin-istas attending “Under the Lights.”

  2. junkyardjamie

Josh ~ You do realize by recognizing the term Ethieraholic and including it in your post, you just made it an official term – LOL!!! It is kind of fun seeing it on Andre’s blog by non-ITD writers. I am very impressed by you for reading this stuff. I know we drive you crazy, but most of it is all in fun, and we strive to entertain mostly. Thanks for putting up with us, and I am really trying to figure out a way to get to “Under the Lights.”

  3. amyw27

Rose- I’m so happy to see you. What costumes are your kids going to be? do you just have one child, or more? I hope you feel better. *wink* being sick is no fun..haha
    .
Nelly- It’s so funny that Josh knows your term. Josh Loves Us 🙂
ITD is such a family. I love. Josh we are proud of you 🙂
    .
Eric- I think you deserve your new title! You are ‘super’ to us here!!!
    .
Josh- I see how busy you are in the of season. One thing is for sure, I do miss the stadium. I was going at least 3 times a week and it become my home. The night of the last NLCS game it was very hard to walk away. Thank you for all you do.

JOSH…thanks for all the updates…Madonna concert sounds lots of fun and it should be packed…DO DODGER’S MAKE MONEY OUT OF EVENTS LIKE THE CONCERT?
    .
I wish I couldn attend the “Under The Lights” event…and yes I am a ETHIERAHOLIC and MARTINISTA. I just think that it is not fair that I can’t attend..LOL!. I mean Ethier & Martin as my batting instructors…it drives me nutts that I won’t be able to take advantage of the situation. But all those attending…please have fun and tell them Rosie loves them both…LOL!
    .
JDRF that I can probably contribute too, gotta check my funds… My sister-in-law is diabetic and it is all for a good cause. My daugther likes the Jonas brother. Nick Jonas is Diabetic and I believe he just recently had a big Birthday bash there at Dodger’s Stadium. I wish Nick a Healthy & Fun Life.

Josh, I’m not taking anything I hear seriously. Haven’t read Dodger Thoughts’ take yet, but I feel this year is exciting in the same way that reading the tabloids at the supermarket is exciting. I love getting a good laugh out of the headlines, but I never buy the magazine, and I’m sure as heck not subscribing to it.

    How’s everyone today?

  6. thinkingblue

Amy – hey girl, I’m fine just been so busy. I have 2 kids a 7 yr. old girl and a 3 yr. old boy (FUTURE DODGER – He claims to be Martin and oh yeah he does not say “Let’s play baseball”…he says Let’s Play Dodger’s). Well due to Budget cuts I had to get creative with my Daughter’s halloween custome. She is in dance class and in one of her performance she work a black, shiny outfit, so we are turned that into a cat suite. Not just any cat…it is a Pretty In Pink Cat. Yeah in her school the customs can’t be scary or anything evil, or negative so we added a black tail with a BIG PINK BOW, Then we added the cat ears with a BIG PINK BOW and pink errings, then she will be wearing black gloves with fuzzy stuff and of course we added pink rings to it, then cats have collars with their name tag. So we made one with lots of pink stones and we made her tag (BIG & PINK) with her initial on it. I can’t wait to see her in it. And my son will be a Red Power Ranger (store bought).

  7. dodgereric

    Hi Rose,

You certainly don’t have to spend a lot of money on a costume. One year I took a little 30″ x 30″ piece of plywood and cut a hole in it, big enough to fit around my daughter’s waist. I cut straps from an old bedsheet to suspend it from her shoulders. I used an el cheapo camping plastic tablecloth and stapled it to the plywood. I glued a paper plate and cup, plastic knife, fork and spoon. She was a table. She still talks about all the attention she got that year. I think she was about your daughter’s age then and she’s 20 now.

Our son is 4 years younger too. That year we glued his hair into a spike in the back and put on his Osh-Gosh-ByGosh coveralls on. I made him a slingshot out of a tree branch and some rubber bands. Instant Dennis the Menace. He was only 3 or 4 and probably would have rather been a Power Ranger. Win some, lose some!

    Dodgersrule – Great Costumes!!!!!

Ward Dear…. more great costumes and another great story 🙂

nsblues – Are you thinking about a Logo? Have you figured out your costume yet? How are your classes? BTW – I am doing great myself. It was a good, productive Monday.

  9. cpompe1

Good afternoon ITD boys and girls! So Dodger4life is the Royal Usher and Eric is the reincarnation of SuperChicken!!! That sounds great!!!

  10. amyw27

Rose- I am so glad to see you today. The morning isn’t the same without the rose in on the conversation. Your costume sounds great! I’m sure she’ll be one cute kitty!
    .
Eric- you are so creative. That’s hilarious that you though of a picnic table for a Halloween costume!!
    .
NSB- good to see you too. I had pizza for lunch, I thought of you.
    .
Today at work our head secretary’s birthday. She is out today, but will be in tomorrow. For everyone’s birthday’s she always decorates their window with Birthday wishes. But for her birthday she refuses that it’s her birthday and denies it big time. So we all but Happy Birthday to her on everyone else’s window except for hers. So when she comes in tomorrow her name is going to be everywhere. Poor girl is going to be embarrassed, but she will love that we thought about her. It’s going to be funny tomorrow!

  11. cpompe1

Hey Nelly! Are the girls in your class still hugging Ethierbear??? I sure hope so!!! If they are, I am very jealous! I’ve always had a soft spot for bears, especially (1) the stuffed variety and (2) if they happen to be named Ethierbear!!!

  12. trublu4ever

Hi – hope you are all having a good day. The costumes all sounded great. Last year, I dressed like the guys do around here……….bought a pair of baggy pants, a Raiders shirt and cap, and sunglasses. I walked into my sons Halloween party and nobody knew who I was. Some of the kids’ parents gave me strange looks and were wondering what the hek a gang member was doing here! I won 1st prize in the adult division.

  13. cpompe1

Lately, any Halloween parties I go to, I’m dressed in Dodger baseball attire! I have my jersey, the mid-length sleeve t-shirt, and the baseball pants! But the best part of the outfit is the pair of stirrups I made out of an old pair of sweatpants from my husband! The only thing I’m missing is a pair of cleats! I just wear my athletic shoes. Oh well.

  14. dodgereric

A friend of mine took one of those little plastic chairs that a 3-year-old would use and attached a Dodger batting helmet under the seat so it would stay on his head.

He went to the party dressed as a used piece of chewing gum.

  15. thinkingblue

TRU that custom idea is excellent. Maybe I should dress up like that this year, but who knows if I take my kids trick-or-treating if it will be safe…LOL… My sister one year dressed up like a pregnant girl. She was 14 at the time. We had some moms freaking out. It was funny.
    .
Eric your customes Slingshot & table that funny. I have to think of something for me.
    .
One year when my girl was a new born I dressed her up as a white lil’ bunny, I wanted to be a big carrot. That would of been funny.

  16. amyw27

I feel sad. Halloween isn’t something that I ever get into. I can’t even remember the last time I dressed in costume. As a kid, of course it was normal kid stuff, but now..I don’t even go to those sexy young people parties. oh well.
    .
eric- hillarious. people can be so creative. any btw, did you decide on an appropriate title for me yet???

  17. amyw27

JOSH- can I just say how funny your tags today are. Look at what you had to tag today’s post under::::
~Hot stove, JDRF, Jonas brothers, Madonna~
    Very interesting my friend!
haha. This is totally the offseason!

  18. junkyardjamie

CP – Ethierbear is getting many hugs still, and Andre is asked about everyday, and we sing his song every Wednesday. Even though Andre is still the top (along with SuperDodgereric/Ward Dear), they are starting to ask about the other players because they are noticing and reading the cards and pictures more. Most of them are watching the World Series, and some are happy and some are not. The last two weeks, I have been teaching them through reading and writing all the baseball terms so they understand who plays where and why, and also some of the terminology when keeping score. So, they are watching the World Series and kind of understanding what is going on, especially the girls (and a some boys too). It will be great to start the next season because they will have already known the players by then, and they will know all but a few teams by then as well. We are in Detroit with the Tigers this week. As for Ethierbear – he is getting lots of loves and deservedly so 🙂

  19. thinkingblue

Hey Amy Josh is becoming one of us…well he is one of us…”ETHIERAHOLICS”….LOL. When I read that I felt PROUD!

  20. northstateblues

funny you mention that Amy, I’m having pizza for lunch right now, heh. zucchini, tomato, artichoke hearts and spinach on creamy garlic sauce.

  21. junkyardjamie

dodgersrule – who would have thought the Ethieraholic name would catch on – this is just too funny – another one of Dodgereric’s creations that we just took on and made it a life of it’s own. What will be next?

  22. northstateblues

    Eric, that’s an awesome costume!

I had a friend come by last year who had a bunch of small Kellogg’s cereal boxes with plastic spoons through them, with blood all over the boxes and shirts. He was a Cereal Killer

  23. cpompe1

Eric, a used piece of chewing gum? Now that’s a great costume!

Nelly – I’m thrilled that Ethierbear is so popular! Boy, if I had a teacher like you when I was little. Talking baseball in the middle of school – I think that’s great!!! So you said that your classroom is in Detroit right now. You said before that you’re going thru baseball cities (and/or states, like in the case of Arizona) alphabetically, huh? I’m trying to think what baseball towns you’ve hit so far. Hmmmmm…

  24. enchantedbeaver

Don’t worry Amy – I don’t go to those sexy young people parties either.
    .
Of course being 47 and married kinda puts a damper on things…

  25. junkyardjamie

cereal killer – that’s funny nsblues!!

CP – every team A-D, (Arizona Diamondbacks – Detroit Tigers). We are doing Florida and Houston the two weeks after that, and then I think it’s Kansas City and then onto LA I believe. I will end about the 2-3 week into the 2009 season with the Nationals/Expos. So, far the most popular teams have been the Diamondbacks (because of the pool in the stadium and it’s where Andre lives), Boston and the Rockies, which were last week. I played up the Rockies a little bit because Brian Fuentes is from here, and his baseball card actually says Merced, California (instant connection). Knowing what I know already, the Dodgers, Angels, A’s, Phillies and the Rays will be big. I really don’t have too many Giants fans in here, or at least they haven’t said so.

  26. cpompe1

This is thee most creative costume I’ve thought of (actually, I got some help from my husband on this one). I wore a plain, white t-shirt and jeans. We ate Taco Bell the night before, so I washed and dried (as best as I could) the leftover taco wrappers, pinned them to my t-shirt and pinned (using bobby pins here) a taco wrapper on my head, and went as a taco.

  27. amyw27

NSB- I love pizza. I went through a phase this year when I craved pizza all the time. It was strange, I couldn’t get enough of it.haha. I’m glad that phase is over, it lasted a good 8 months. What pizza place do you work for? a local place, or a chain?
    .
Enchanted…good to know we are on the same page 🙂

  28. cpompe1

Oh Nelly – I’m sure there may be some closet Giant fans in your room. You do live in gnat country. I still think it’s great that you’re teaching reading and writing while talking baseball!!! You must be able to get a lot of interest from your students.

  29. cpompe1

So Nelly, I’m curious. When you get to talking about the Dodgers and the Angels, are you going to call the Angels by their official MLB name? I’m sure you will, or else you would’ve been done with the Angels before you got to the D-Backs! Will you say anything to your students about how you feel about the Angels trying to steal the LA name from the Dodgers? Probably not; I don’t think you’d want to confuse your 6-year olds with grown-up stuff like that, huh.

  30. junkyardjamie

CP – I really don’t think so. They like the Raiders and 49ers, and I know that. I guess we will see when we get there.

  31. northstateblues

Amy, since I’ve haven’t spoken highly of it online, I’ll just mention that it’s a Medival-themed pizza restaurant of the Camelot kind, heheh.

  32. junkyardjamie

CP – I am doing it based on how it is written on their homepage, and they are the Los Angeles Angels. However, I will explain that they are not in LA because when we do the map, they will be in Anaheim.

    CP – I am in my 40’s too – that’s why I said that.

  33. thinkingblue

NS Blues – if you want to dress up as something scary…go as a Phillies Phan….LOL
    .
DNEL – “Ethierbear” is catching up, next thing you know Build-A-Bear will have the EthierBear….LOL
    .
I use to eat Pizza (younger years) but somehow on both my pregnancies I couldn’t eat Pizza and now I’ll eat it but from certain locations. Thin crust and from non-franchise locations I can eat.
    .
Talking about Taco Bell (TRU thanks for reminding) tomorrow is the free TACO at Taco Bell…LOL ROYAL USHER NOW YOU MAY GO GET YOUR TACO!
    .
I still haven’t checked out the D-backs swimming pool. Dnel always talks about….I will check it out now. But you know which stadium I love to go one day (it is football), but I like the Tampa Bay Buccs stadiums with the Pirate ship and the shooting canons….RRRRRR!

  34. trublu4ever

I was pretty sexy when I dressed up as a goth girl…..sprayed my hair black…..black mini skirt and leather vest. My husband thought I was hot!

  35. cpompe1

Nelly – I can just imagine the questions from your students going something like, “They’re in Anaheim?!? Then why do they have LA as their official name???” I know you’ll handle those questions very scholarly!

Oh and ah yes, the 40s! It won’t be too long before both Enchanted and I are out of our 40s, unfortunately…

Hey Enchanted, got dinner plans??? 🙂

  36. dodgereric

It’s funny amy, but I’ve never been into Halloween either. I was usually sick at this time of year. I used to get ear infections and my little sister would have to lug around two pillowcases and ask people to give to her sick brother. When I started to grow out of it I was about 12 and my dad told me that I was getting too old. So I can only remember actually doing the trick-or-treat thing twice. I was Popeye once (itchy forearms) and a ghost. That’s it. 😦 Now I call ’em a bunch of little extortionists just to get my family going! 🙂

Regarding your title. Hmmm, first it was CEOICOTM – “The Chief Executive Officer In Charge Of Team Morale”. A little clunky. You could break that down to CEOTM, but that’s crappy.

Then I tried “Associate in charge of Morale for the Youngsters”. At least that broke down to AMY. But AMYamy? I liked it but then before I got to sell you on it, you wanted to add “Official Team Disneyland Resource” to the job description. That made AMYOTDR, which doesn’t sound really attractive. It might make the boys laugh, but I don’t think that’s what you’re after. I twisted it around to “Associate in charge of Morale for the Youngsters and Team Resourse Official at Disneyland” or AMYTROD. Still not working for me, to be honest.

I’m going to take a break and go home. I promise to come up with something cool tonight or die trying. 🙂

  37. northstateblues

Nelly, just explain how the NY Giants and NY Jets don’t play in New York either, and have a laugh at Selig and Goodell/Taglibue/whichever commish was responsible for that one.

  38. northstateblues

Wow Amy the Disney Pop Legend/ Assoiciate in charge of Morale of Youngsters and Team Rescourse Official at Disneyland, you now have a longer name than the Queen of England!

With great big name comes great big responsibility, heh

  39. cpompe1

Wow Tru – You, a Goth girl??? That reminds me of the last place I worked. Keep this in mind – I worked for a Christian organization, okay? And everyone that worked there were “good, little Christian boys and girls.” Well, one of our “good, little Christian boys” came into the office dressed as a Goth guy! He was wearing all black, painted his fingernails black, and had black/ghostly white makeup. Oh, and he died his hair black! He was something else!

  40. trublu4ever

cpo – I did have a lot of fun dressed Goth. I also had black fingernails. It’s fun to do something completely out of character.

  41. amyw27

HAHAHA- ERIC you really are my superhero. I loved your reasoning behind all of the choices and why they just don’t work. I agree..it’s kind long..but I appreciate you putting your life on the line for its perfection. Thank you my friend.
    .
NSB- gotcha on the job. I have one of those restaurants where I live now and I was wondering if I should go for lunch one day. We also have a Pizza Factory here. I’m still trying to figure out if they carry a lunch buffet. Pizza lunch buffet is aswesome!
    .
Rose- agreed. Long title= more money. BTW, who is the team accountant? Or HR? I would need to have a word with them.
    .
bye CP! have a wonderful night.

  42. thinkingblue

Well DNEL will be great at HR since she is the Historian and the Team Mom. With both jobs combine you sort of get and HR department. She keeps track of who is who and how many names they have, she can tell you where we are all from, and when they started “working” here…LOL! She can have a long name. Eventually and new employee will come along and she can delegate work down to them…LOL

  43. northstateblues

Amy, up here we still have lunch buffett every m-f 11:30-1:30, and dinner buffett tuesdays from 6-8. I love the pizza at my place, especially the red sauce. It’s a great franchise, it’s just my particular one that has been going through down times the last… um… year.

I just think it’s important that if people, families, etc are coming in and spending their hard-earned money (and if you look at the menu, it’s a nice little chunk of change) on a pizza night for their family, the crew should treat it as such, and not like they’re working at the bad DQ (not the good DQ) on the bad side of town, the one that hasn’t been renovated in 30 years, and has those little chairdesks you find at the DMV.

These days, people act as if they should be paid to stand around and talk, and are irrated when annoying customers come to bother them with a huge order. I love Kevin Smith’s “Clerks” as much as any 90’s era slacker, but in this economy, there’s plenty of hard-working people without jobs who would love to have a chance at it (or love to have a chance at getting paid to stand around and talk… come to think of it, I would LOVE to get paid to stand around and talk)

It’s like watching the Dodgers turn into the Toledo Mud Hens overnight.

  44. northstateblues

(and funnily enough, we got sent some Pizza Factory boxes by mistake… I’d never heard of Pizza Factory until this morning)

  45. amyw27

NSB- I totally agree. I’m sorry that you work with people with little to no work ethic. It’s sad to say but Customer Service is completely dead and when you actually get good customer service somewhere you feel so special because it never happens that often. I’m glad that I’m out of customer service. My goodness, I hated dealing with ungrateful people when I was doing my best to take care of them geesh.
    .
I love the Pizza Factory. It’s the same sort of deal you’ve got going on, it’s a family join, arcade games, sports on the tv. The only problem is that some are buffets and some aren’t. I haven’t figured out if my new one is or is not. I shall see.
    .
I really really hope that the Phillies don’t win the WS tonight. I want to Rays to battle back and tie it up, then force a game 7 and win it all!!!!! That would rock. I don’t want to see Cole Hamels and Lidge celebrate on the field with Victorino and Werth(less). Blah to that!

  46. northstateblues

Rose, I work for a medival themed pizza restaurant of the Camelot kind. Not gonna outright say which (since I kinda just blasted my jobplace), but you get the picture, right?

  47. amyw27

ROSE- this is where NSB works :

    ….
Amy, since I’ve haven’t spoken highly of it online, I’ll just mention that it’s a Medival-themed pizza restaurant of the Camelot kind, heheh.
By nsblues on October 27, 2008 4:07 PM

  48. amyw27

Heck Ya he does!!! He will be crying because we will be cheering!
It’s about time the Phillies get a dose of reality!

  49. amyw27

ok I’m going to leave work now. Then I’m going to the gym so I can work off all that pizza I just ate 🙂
    .
Have a good night. I’ll check in later tonight.

  50. northstateblues

124 doses of reality the last 125 years. and even if they don’t find a way to blow this one too, that’ll be 124 doses of reality in 126 years.

  51. northstateblues

    have a good night, Amy

Rose, haven’t chosen a mascot yet, but the consesus seems pretty strong that we will see the Rally Booger next season.

  52. thinkingblue

OOOOOH if it’s the one I’m thinking about…OK you now that pizza is good. Me & my sister use to meet up for lunch once a week at one of those Medival time pizza place. We will always order our individual pep pizza with our salad bar and coke….mmmm nothing like fresh out of the oven pizza. I just don’t like Dominoes, Papa Johns, Pizza Hut, Lil’ Ces, Chuck E. Cheese, & Johns Incredible. I will eat Shakeys and the family own places and Round T’.

  53. thinkingblue

Amy have a good night, enjoy the workout!
    .
I’m out also, my son plays football tonight.
    .
Good night NS Blues….Rally Booger sounds fun to me! So are ya drawing something up?

  54. northstateblues

yeah Rose, I love our pizza, that’s one of the best parts of working there. Though sometimes making all that pizza, I go crazy not having the stuff to make pizza at home, heh.

My favorite kind is the Pan crust, thick and fluffy, and you can dip the crusts in that creamy garlic ranch sauce… I’m making myself hungry again, heh.

  55. northstateblues

Rose, have a good night! Yeah, I’ve been throwing around ideas for an ITD logo, since they asked for one yesterday.

  56. northstateblues

    Ph_ck Philly.

For Philly Fans, Winning is Torture
    by Steve Henson
    Excerpt:

In spite of the good vibrations, the inner Philadelphian – the one who cheered when Michael Irvin got carted off the football field with a neck injury – is always aching to come out in any form. Phillies fans this October are like pit bulls wagging their tails, seemingly rehabilitated until one false move turns them savage.

How else to explain a family member of a Rays’ employee holing up in a bathroom stall during Game 3 because Phillies fans were pounding on the door and threatening him? Or a grade-school student getting beer poured on him. Or the seven-year-old granddaughter of Rays manager Joe Maddon being pelted with mustard packets?

“If you want to be vociferous with us, I am fine with that,” Maddon said. “But leave the families alone.”

Heckling the opposition remains a Philadelphia tradition, acceptable at times and over the top at others. The “Eeeee-va” chants when Rays’ third baseman Evan Longoria came to the plate were creative and harmless. The verbal abuse Rays’ pitcher Scott Kazmir took as he signed autographs was neither. And the profanity directed at the families of Rays’ players and employees – inexcusable.

  57. enchantedbeaver

So North, you’re in Chico right?? Tell me, the DQ I think its the north side of town (or midtown) and west of the fwy a few blocks. Is that the good DQ or the bad one??

  58. trublu4ever

Nstateblue ~ that proves dodgereric’s point that they are “Phidiots”! I even heard on ESPN today that they threw a smoke bomb during a Flyers hockey game, and you better not go to a sporting event anywhere in Philly wearing the visiting team’s colors.

  59. enchantedbeaver

Hey Tru! I guess when you live in a town that erects a statue to a fake boxer, well…

I’ll try and catch up with y’all later.

  60. northstateblues

E, I’m in Marysville and go to Chico, haven’t been to the DQ there, but here we had the bad DQ, and Yuba City has the good one.

I liked the Chico Foster Freeze more, but they retired 😦

  61. northstateblues

Tru, yeah, it’s REALLY hard for me to find any likability in the Phillies ’cause (some of) their fans are classless. Do you think if the Phils win, all the jerks will just plunge into a river like lemmings?

  62. junkyardjamie

nsblues – The first time I had Pizza Factory pizza was in Oakhurst, and it was pretty good. That’s funny about the mix up in boxes.

As far as Halloween, I didn’t enjoy it as a kid at all. I was afraid to go to people’s door. I enjoy it more now as an adult because we’ve done some pretty scary things to our house. My dad can do a pretty good haunted house too. We don’t do as much anymore since the kids like doing their own things now.

  63. junkyardjamie

enchanted – I know you are gone, but how many DQ’s are there in New Mexico. I swear we ate at more DQ’s on our way to Dallas and back then ever before.

nsblues – the Foster’s Freeze in Atwater is fabulous, and the one in Los Banos isn’t so bad ethier. However, the one in Mariposa was the best, but the last time we were up there, it was gone (literally).

we go crazy for Halloween, it’s my girlfriend and her mom’s favorite holiday (besides christmas). Our frontyard looks like a cemetary right now, with pirate skeletons and tombstones, strewn about (foam) bones, lighted pitchforks along the sidewalk, spiderwebs around the bush with a giant spider, etc…

and inside we have castle wall scene-setters with ghoulish takes on famous paintings (Whistler’s Mother, Mona Lisa, etc…) a la Haunted Mansion. And we do the dining room with colored scarves and a crystal ball to look like a Fortune teller’s tent.

and we try to keep people from losing their alcohol on the lawn… but that’s usually an excersize in futility (I know that needs red pen, Nelly 🙂 ).

Speaking of Red Pen, don’t be surprised if I’m in here posting a garbled mess on Friday night… won’t be too much different from some moon-filled nights, I guess XD

  65. junkyardjamie

nsblues – someone posted that Phillies article on Andre’s blog – good for him. I wouldn’t be surprised win or lose, if the damage done to their city by the Philidiots (to be separated from the good Phillies fans that jhall knows) will be the same, win or lose. It will be interesting to see how they react to something that has only happened once in 125 years.

  66. junkyardjamie

nsblues – like I said, you could be half-dead (not that I mean that), and still not need a red pen, and I make just as many mistakes as all the other normal people on here. You have never been incoherent, nor would I care if your were. Sometimes it’s more about the topic of discussion than it is about the “red pen” issue when it comes to the moontalk if you know what I mean. I think the “red pen” is more of a way for me to not break the rules of engagement like I have been told over and over and over again not to do.

BTW – love the Halloween stuff – that sounds alot like what we used to do. How fun!!!!!!!

  67. trublu4ever

Nellyae – you Dad won’t have time to do the haunted house this year because the TaeKwonDo party is Thursday and it’s to much trouble to bring everything from the school to set up at home.

  68. enchantedbeaver

Hey Nells – yes, lots of DQ’s in the midwest and NM. We had three here in Cruces, but they just tore one completely down (of course it’s the one I went to.)

Oakhurst had a Foster’s, but that went out even before I left. Not sure how long the one in Mariposa’s been gone, but it seems to me that hadn’t been an actual Foster’s for a long time – was some mom and pop place unless it went back to being a Foster’s. There’s still one (I think) in Fresno on Chestnut and Shields.

There’s a place that started here in NM (maybe even Cruces) called Caliche’s. The only one in CA is in Fresno (or was when I left) on Blackstone. Its frozen custard and VERY good. They’ll also make your dog a poochie cone.

  69. northstateblues

E, there’s also still a Foster’s on Main Street in Barstow. and I didn’t know until last year that Hesperia still has a Bob’s Big Boy (that was 5 years ago, though.)

  70. enchantedbeaver

North – its been so long since I was in Marysville/Yuba City, I don’t even remember if its north or south of Chico. Overnighted a couple of times in Chico. Even thought at one time before we moved to NM of living in that area somewhere, but a trip to Oroville changed my mind 🙂 Paradise was a neat area, but a little too small. Seems to me we went and saw a covered bridge somewhere around there too, but I can’t remember the name of it.

  71. northstateblues

Tampa Bay has their “Elmer Fudd” hats on, heh. looks like Baseball’s gonna make some money this winter

  72. trublu4ever

Our Foster’s is inside El Pollo Loco, what a combination! I love Bob’s Big Boy shakes………..so thick you have to use a spoon.

  73. junkyardjamie

enchanted – I think you are right about the one in Mariposa(not being a Foster’s Freeze), but it was still pretty good. Now, there is nothing there, but a empty lot, but it’s been a while since we have been that way so maybe it’s a new and improved something. I will have to look into the place in Fresno. My sister lives there, and I am pretty familiar with Blackstone. The closest DQ to here is Los Banos, and we usually go to Foster’s Freeze instead on our way back from the bay area.

  74. enchantedbeaver

I’m shocked there’s still a Bob’s to be found in CA. I even think the one in Fresno went out, and that was the last one I knew of. I spent many an evening of my youth hanging out with friends in a BB in Arcadia.

  75. enchantedbeaver

That’s right Tru!!! I forgot about the EPL/Fosters there in Merced. Been in there many a time.

Obviously I hit all the highlights along that street: Baskin Robbins in the mall, IHOP, Long John Silvers, Panda (way down by Walmart), Pizza Hut, and EPL/Fosters.

  76. enchantedbeaver

Definitely nells, that little Mariposa shake shack was awesome. Think I noticed it being gone last time I passed through town a couple (three?) years ago.

  77. northstateblues

A trip to Oroville will do that to you, heheh. I’m a half hour north of Sacramento, hour south of Chico. The scenery’s nice, but… the scenery’s nice.

Our hangout was the Del Taco, sometimes on First St, sometimes on Mountain View. I’m hoping that Chico would get one, I’d have a better chance of going than at the one they just put at the other end of YC.

I had a friend who used to live in Paradise, on Never Never Lane.

  78. trublu4ever

enchantedGM – I spent a lot of time at the BB in Fresno with my teenage friends…………we used to drive from here just to sit there and have a great time! I miss seeing Bob on the Blackstone corner.

  79. junkyardjamie

enchanted ~It is so funny that have you have been to Merced. We probably passed by each other and didn’t even know it.

We used to drive to Mariposa just to go to that place, and it has been about that long. Good little restaurants up there too.

  80. enchantedbeaver

My wife and I when we were first married used to pick a town or area and go antiqueing. Made it to Yuba City once. Later we gave up antiquing and went thrift storing instead to find things to sell on eBay. Think that’s what brought us to Chico the first time we were there. Second time was when we were checking out area’s to live and blew out Eureka (was that a weird place), came up over the mountains into Redding, and ended up back down in Chico (which led to Oroville and well, that lead us to NM.)

  81. jeanette28

Russell Martin and Andre Ethier as instructors!!???? How did they know that was my dream….more like fantasy! lol too bad I can’t make it! 😦

  82. enchantedbeaver

Probably did at that nells!! TruMom’s a Fresno Chick??? That Bob’s was a great place to have breakfast when I had my car worked on at the Hyundai dealer back behind it.

Once we had our dog, the overnight trips to various cities stopped and we developed a route that took us thrift storing from Oakhurst to Angel’s Camp (or Jackson/Sutter Creek) to Stockton to Merced and back home, so Merced was almost always our dinner stop.

  83. trublu4ever

Every Sunday, when the kids were little, my husband and I used to take a drive to see the “countryside”…….like Hornitos and Sonora. People don’t have time any more to have a leisure Sunday out with their family. When I was a teenager, my mom and dad would let my sister and me bring a friend and we’d spend a week in Pinecrest. Best times I ever had!

  84. junkyardjamie

enchanted – you know California very – you have talked about all the other little towns you have been to before too.

  85. northstateblues

heheh Nelly, that and the fact there’s at least 10 bars within a mile, hell, probably 10 bars within 5 blocks!

E, that’s funny… I’m always a little cautious going to gas up in Oroville after sundown. They have a Foster’s Freeze I’ve never been to. We checked out the ARC thrift store in Chico once or twice, and they have a staff of special needs workers who the funds go to. Looking at the stationery on the counter and the 40 year old licenses on the wall, we learned what the R stood for, surprised Chico hadn’t PC’ed that yet.

  86. junkyardjamie

…oh yes, I remember those trips, and not to mention all the vintage car club trips up into San Andreas for the Black Bart tour, all the poker runs, Silverado, and almost dying when we lost our brakes going down a steep hill in Napa. Yes, I remember those days. I also remember Pinecrest, but I have been there a few times as an adult now too.

  87. junkyardjamie

    LOL!!!

enchanted – Did you ever get to fish the Feather River? I worked with a teacher who did that every year, and said it was one of the best fishing he has ever been to.

  88. enchantedbeaver

Yeah nells, had to get out of Oakhurst now and then or we’d get cabin fever (OK we went somewhere virtually every Saturday.) We never strayed too much west of Livingston or north of Sacramento for the most part, but I think we hit just about every little town in the valley from Stocton to Taft (which BTW, never go there!!)

  89. junkyardjamie

trublu….it’s probably why Bill and I do those drives now a days. They were fun, and it’s great to go up into the foothills/mountains/beach just for the day.

  90. enchantedbeaver

Never did nells. When I lived there in Oakhurst we only had to drive 10-15 minutes to Lewis or Willow Creek, maybe 35-40 minutes to Soquel (which I believe is the upper part of Willow), and a long drive was going an hour and a half to Chiquito (still my favorite around the area.) When my son and I planned a big fishing trip, it was always over to Bishop, probably because my dad started taking me there when I was 9, and so there’s always been a connection to that place for me.

  91. northstateblues

heheheh! Yeah, I stick close to the 70 whenever I’m there, just a little scary.

Alright, I guess I should get around to hitting the books. Have a good night!

  92. junkyardjamie

I have been to Taft. My dad used to follow Merced College Basketball, and he used to drive to the tournaments, and one of the places was Taft. I think we have had this conversation before – Taft, Woodlake, Needles, Blythe, etc.

  93. trublu4ever

I know, nellyae. It’s always good to get away from home! We went fishing in Diamond Lake, Oregon. My Mom and Dad loved it there……….I was quite a good fisherwoman, too!

  94. junkyardjamie

My grandfather and grandmother taught my brother and I how to fish as well. They owned a houseboat on Lake McClure, and he used to take us fishing all the time. If it wasn’t there, then it was on the back side of Lake Yosemite. I was pretty good for a little kid – pictures to prove it!!

  95. trublu4ever

enchanted – I didn’t bait my hook with a worm, only a fly…….someone else had to put the worm on for me!

  96. enchantedbeaver

I have missed fishing being out here in the desert that’s for sure. I did make it back to Bishop a couple years ago, but haven’t picked up a rod and reel since.

  97. junkyardjamie

That’s too bad enchanted. Aren’t you going on a trip in November that is water related – cruise maybe?

  98. enchantedbeaver

That’s OK Tru. When my dad got to where he couldn’t bait the hook anymore I’d do it for him, and if I wasn’t fishing close enough, my son would bait it for him and throw the line out too, then hand him back the rod. Think my son was 11-12. Watching him with Dad like that used to bring both a smile and a tear if that makes any sense. Poor Dad couldn’t catch anything unless it hooked itself, but none of that ever really mattered because we were all there together. One of my favorite pictures was taken by my daughter from behind with the three of us walking back down the road, each of us carrying their tackle. My son was even a bit younger then.

  99. junkyardjamie

enchanted – that is a wonderful story, and I can imagine the picture is priceless. Kind of like Andy and Opie walking down the road with their fishing gear – how sweet 🙂

  100. enchantedbeaver

January nells, and NOOOOOO way I’m going on the ocean!! We’re actually going down to Costa Rica. One of the side trips we have planned is going into the Cano Negro and boating down the Rio Frio. We’re also staying next to an active volcano (Arenal) so airfare back to the states may be one way and cheap!!!

  101. junkyardjamie

Costa Rica – wow!!! That will be fun!!!! I know you don’t do oceans – LOL!!! The volcano should be interesting – another Wow!!!

  102. junkyardjamie

…..oh my gosh!!! I remember when grandpa used to smoke the fish in the house – it smelled so good, and tasted pretty good too.

  103. junkyardjamie

…..I can’t cook it or it eat if the face is still on it. I love trout, but I have to have the heads off first.

  104. enchantedbeaver

I can show you a quick and easy way to clean a trout, but in the last 20-25 years, other than maybe 1-2 a season, I’d strictly catch and release.

Back in the early days of going to Bishop with my dad, all the motels around there had cleaning facilities, which where we stayed consisted of a kitchen-type sink with a garbage disposal. Those days I’d scale and cut fins while my dad gutted and dressed. Of course he’d turn on the garbage disposal so anything that went down the drain would get chewed up and that was that. One day we fished all day and all we had to show for it was about a pound and a half Brown… So the disposal’s on and he’s cleaning away when the fish slips out of his hand and goes head first down the drain. Now any normal person would turn off the disposal, but we were so dumbfounded watching as the tail went round and round the drain opening and then all of a sudden, brrrrrrup, and it was gone. We just both stood there, looked at the sink, looked at each other, then without saying a word, picked up our stuff and went back to our room.

  105. junkyardjamie

LMAO!!!!!!!!!! LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now that is a funny story!!!!!!!!! LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

poor fish 😦 That image will be stuck in my head for a while – that is too, too funny enchanted – Oh my goodness….LMAO!!!!!!!!!!

  106. junkyardjamie

…….enchanted – now that I have stopped laughing. That is just a great story, very funny, but incredible none the less.

  107. dodgereric

    Greetings Late Nighters!!!

Now that was a great visual, e!!! LMAO!!!!

Although I have some gear, no one will ever call me a fisherman. My dad wasn’t into it, nor did I have any relatives in Cali to teach me anything, but I do have a fish story. It’s really pathetic, but it’s a fish story.

When an old friend and I were about 17, he decided that we needed to go fishing. I had never been at that time, but he had gear from his dad, who had passed away when we were about 8. We gathered whatever we could find and grabbed the keys to his mom’s car and headed for the pier at Hermosa Beach.

We asked questions and observed the old guys around us and managed to snag a dozen of some poor species. We stuffed them into a burlap sack, tossed them in the trunk and headed for home. Didn’t clean them, what’s that? No cooler. No ice.

It was summer. A Friday. Drivetime traffic turned an hour’s trip into twice that at least. That car never smelled right EVER AGAIN.

  108. junkyardjamie

enchanted – it’s usually the little things that stay with you the most. It’s like that hill in Napa where the 38 ford lost it’s brakes – I don’t think I will forget that. I little moment in time (about a whole 30 seconds), but it left a lasting impression. My daughter sitting in Dodger Stadium, facing the Dodger symbol from the right field pavillion and asking who the home team was, and a Yankee fan, of all people, turn around and tell her – “You are in Dodger Stadium Sweetie” – We don’t let her forget that one!!! My sister actually thinking a “Park and Ride” actually had rides – now that’s funny – it’s the little things.

  109. junkyardjamie

LMAO!!!!! Good Evening Ward Dear….. that must have been mighty smelly – LMAO!!!!! It’s called ice dear…..

  110. enchantedbeaver

    That’s funny nells!!

I remember when my daughter was 3 or 4 I asked her if she wanted a tutu, and she said yes, but she wanted it all in one piece.

  111. dodgereric

My dad actually found a fish that was in the center of the bunch that was still ok. He insisted that we clean it, cook it and eat it. Under his direction, we did it. It wasn’t bad! But an awful lot of fish was wasted that day.

  112. dodgereric

I’m still working on amy’s title. What do you think of DDD? 3Damy? The Dodger/Disney Diva. She’s working for the Dodgers. She’s the Disneyland official. She’s the PopLegend.

  113. junkyardjamie

Wouldn’t a Diva naturally build up morale? I mean any music Diva that would show up in the clubhouse is bound to boost morale, don’t you think?

  114. dodgereric

Actually, the right (or wrong) kind of music would have the opposite effect on me.

Speaking of fishing, did anyone catch the game tonight?

  115. junkyardjamie

…..that’s all I knew about the game. We were watching football most of the time. I had players on both teams. We switched during commercials, but that was about it. I am assuming many watched football over baseball tonight, don’t you? ….unless you are a Phillies/Rays fans.

  116. junkyardjamie

Ward Dear…. the part about him writing letters to his wife on the 21st of every month is just precious. Wow!!! He is one of the truly revered legends in sports history for sure.

  117. enchantedbeaver

Wooden was the coach at Central HS in South Bend when my mom went to HS there.

And since I had to correct that sentence about three times, it must be time for me to retire for the evening. Catch you both later.

  118. junkyardjamie

Ward Dear…. I am really having a hard time watching the games at CBP. I know it’s not all their fans’ fault (some are great just like jhall says), but they have just left a bad taste in my mouth. I really want the Rays to at least take it back to Tampa so if the Phillies do win, it won’t be in their home field.

  119. dodgereric

Come to think of it, I don’t really know who tells the story, but it doesn’t really matter.

The story goes that Walton shows up after the summer break to start the next season, I think his senior year. His hair is long and he has a beard, both taboo to the Coach. Walton was quite the rebel as you probably know and he thought he was in a position to challenge Coach Wooden. He told him that he didn’t intend to cut his hair and that it was his right as an American to wear his hair the way he wanted. Coach said something like, “You’re correct William. You have every right to wear your hair however you like and I respect you for standing up for that right. However, we’re going to miss you around here.”

Walton went out and got a haircut.

  120. junkyardjamie

That is a great story. So, does this type of thing still happen in college ball? professional ball? Joe certainly got a lot of flack for wanting Manny to cut his hair, or is it a college vs. pro thing? However, a good college team is big business now a days too. It’s not exactly cheap to go to some of those games either.

  121. junkyardjamie

Hey dodger4life – how are you doing this fine late evening? Are you on mountain time?

Did you both read the article on nascar.com today about the Chase? I am new to reading about it so I still need to learn which writers to listen to, and which ones not too. I had to do the same with the Dodgers when I first started reading articles out of LA.

  122. Dodger4life

    Yes mountain time .

No I have been having problems trying to sign in.

My sign in box is gone and most recent activity box is also gone?

  123. dodgereric

My ear is not very near the ground in college hoops these days, but I doubt that anyone runs the players much anymore.

Speaking of that, did you see what Mike Singletary did yesterday? He’s now my hero.

Hiya Dodger4! Any snow up there yet?

I haven’t read anyone on NASCAR.com yet that seems full of it. They all seem pretty fair to me so far.

  124. junkyardjamie

Yes I did, and it is definitely him ~ Mike Singletary spoke at our church two summers ago, and he was a remarkable speaker according to my husband – it was a guy thing.

Thanks for the NASCAR writer info 🙂 Well, Duane Cross isn’t too happy with the Chase and it’s implications, I guess. He thinks it should be 36 races period. No starting over with 10 races left.

  125. dodgereric

I think I see the article you’re referring to Junie. Duane Cross wants to do away with the Chase. He’s entitled to his opinion. The reason they came up with the Chase in the first place is that Matt Kenseth won the Cup (in ’03 I think) and only won one race. Cross’ system would return to that idea and I’m sure that a lot of fans agree. But I don’t think there’s any way NASCAR would do that.

What they may do is tweak the points system some more. The whole idea of the Chase was to keep from having someone make the last race or two meaningless. Johnson has a chance to do that this season. He’s been so consistent and is the only one to do that so far. I’ve heard more often the possibility of rewarding the winner of each race with more points than doing away with it entirely.

  126. junkyardjamie

Thanks Ward Dear for clarifying. It seems to be going well in my mind, but I am just kind of going with the flow with this sport for a while – still learning, as with everything I suppose.

  127. Dodger4life

I also believe that as good as Hendrick Motorsports was before the car of tommorrow.Jimmy ,Chad, the pit crew….
They are ahead of everybody else on figureing out the dynamics of this new car.

Given time it will be more competitive maybe?

  128. dodgereric

I only started watching it myself in ’04, so I’m still fairly new at it. The friend of mine that introduced me to it says that he thinks they should award points for every lap led, so it would make them race for every lap instead of just driving around and going for it at the finish.

“Points racing” is something that’s looked down upon somewhat. That’s when they settle for finishing 15th and the points that come with it instead of risking a wreck by going for a win and finishing 31st. Last year Jimmie was racing Kenseth hard at Phoenix (the 2nd to the last race) in order to get a win. He didn’t need the win as he already had a good lead overall and was risking the championship. But he went for it all, trading paint with Matt and won the race. It stopped the “Johnson haters” from claiming he was a points racer. He got a lot of respect that day.

  129. Dodger4life

Jimmy and his team are “Magic”.
Threepeat’s are hard to argue against they are simply the best team out there Start to finish!

  130. junkyardjamie

Well, he earned alot of respect yesterday for sure (not that he doesn’t already have it). He could have sat back yesterday and played it safe too, but he tore through the top 12 drivers like they were standing still. Still amazing!!!

  131. dodgereric

Last year they were really concentrating on the old car to get that 2nd title while most of the other teams were trying to catch up to them with the new one. They already had that one down pretty good.

This season they started slowly and people were asking why. They said it was because everyone else had caught up with them.

What gets to me is when people claim that the 48 team just knows how to play the Chase to their advantage. That’s crap. This season (so far) they’ve been lucky to avoid trouble. Last year they absolutely wiped everyone else out by winning four of the last five races. They had to be THAT good to beat out Jeff Gordon. The year before, THEY were the team who had the big regular season points lead wiped out by the Chase scenario. The year before that, if it weren’t for a fluke incident at the last race, he would have beated Kurt Busch and we’d be looking at a 4th straight championship possibility, not 3.

The fact is that Johnson has won WAY more races in the last few years than anyone else. He and his great team have deserved everything they’ve gotten so far.

  132. junkyardjamie

You will get no arguments from this fairly new NASCAR fan. That article got you thinking and raising the blood pressure just a little bit, didn’t it?

  133. dodgereric

    Since 2005:

    Jeff Gordon – 12 wins
    Kyle Busch – 12
    Tony Stewart – 14
    Carl Edwards – 14
    Jimmie Johnson – 25

  134. Dodger4life

Thats what I believe Eric every track and condition is different they race a really long season under numerous circumstances. They the 48 team as a whole are just better.

  135. dodgereric

You do know me, don’t you? LOL!!!

NASCAR fans aren’t too much different from any other sports. You have people who just love the sport and you have people who think their favorite craps marble, to steal a line from “Amadeus”. There are conspiracy nuts who think that, for some reason, NASCAR wants Jimmie (or Gordon or Dale Jr) to win so they make sure they do. It’s no different from a Raider lunatic thinking the officials still are picking on them.

There’s an old saying, “Winners celebrate and the losers blame the officials”.

  136. junkyardjamie

That’s what I have been paying attention to most, especially since the Chase began, are track conditions. I am really understanding better the workings of the car itself. I started out liking Kyle Busch because he drove the M & M car, but now I am getting beyond the aesthetics part of the race and looking at what the cars are doing and why. Oh, and just so you know, I know very little about the workings of a car. Most of my knowledge comes from watching “American Choppers” and shows like that I watch with Michael (my son). I can change a tire if need be, but I would be more inclined to call AAA.

  137. dodgereric

I just happened to think that if NASCAR wants to make sure that the 36th race stays important, maybe the thing to do would be to shorten the Chase. Five or six races after they adjust the points.

Back to baseball ’cause it’s getting late.

I was telling my wife that if the Rays tied the game, they’d call it in a hurry because they didn’t want a 7-inning game deciding the Series. Turns out that Selig was going to complete this game even if the Phillies were up 10 – 1.
    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2008/news/story?id=3668071

  138. junkyardjamie

Ward dear…. your so-called temperment came through loud and clear on that written speech – LOL!!! Just like when I get on my soap box about my profession and it’s politics or in trying to defend my favorite outfielder to the idiots that came on here thinking he should have been traded.

  139. junkyardjamie

That is a very good move on Selig’s part. That would have been a crappy way to lose the World Series otherwise. We all know anything can happen in just a few short innings.

  140. dodgereric

LOL!!! Whatever happened to those people who wanted us to trade Ethier? HAHA!!!

Dang. I keep thinking of things to talk about. Am I nuts, or has Kemp cut his swing way down? The last couple of games I was watching him swing and it seemed to me that he was doing it all above the waist. Not striding at all. I hope he works on getting a decent power stroke back.

  141. junkyardjamie

Good night Ward Dear…. I think our young players are going to be just fine. They will do what they have to do over this break, and they will come back better than ever. Have a wonderful sleep, and I will catch up to you tomorrow sometime throughout the day. Thanks for the great stories. God Bless!!!!

  142. junkyardjamie

Oh!!! The real show!!!! I thought I was missing something. I am not watching tv right now. Reading and doing ITD. I have fun reading I need to catch up on because I was at Barnes and Noble yesterday, and I really want to buy some more books, but I have to finish the ones I am reading now.

  143. Dodger4life

Its hard to be positive when it takes you 6 hours to sign in.
I felt like I had been sent to my room only to look out the window and see all the other kids playing in the nieghborhood. I’d laugh for a while then id try to find a way out of the room.back and forth! LOL!!!!

  144. Dodger4life

Reading is good Nelly I have’nt watched any tv other than Nascar and Baseball since I found this blog. Now I just have to work on my memory.

  145. junkyardjamie

Dodger4life – it is hard to be away from it, and I have had those nights when the computer doesn’t want to cooperate, and it never fails to happen on one of the more fun times, which happen quite often around here. I had never had to resign in until all the namechange stuff started happening. It’s understandable why it’s done, but at the same time, every time I get kicked off, it’s a whole process of getting resigned in again.

  146. Dodger4life

Custodial ,Maintenece, but there’s a lot of people out of work. I have my fingers crossed but I am not holding my breath. Not much construction going on.

  147. junkyardjamie

I will be wishing you the best of luck. I love both of our custodians, even though one is a Giants fan. They are two of the best people on campus. Plus, the one that is a Giants fans comes in and talks baseball and football with me every morning. I think I may have gotten him back in to watching NASCAR again too.

  148. northstateblues

    Good morning ITD!

There’s a lot being said about Selig blowing it by not delaying the game earlier, but after the All Star Game a few years back, I give Selig points just for not calling this game a tie.

Off to school for me. Hope all of you have a great morning 🙂

  149. trublu4ever

Good morning – I think 3DAmy is a perfect title for her. Dodger/Disney/Diva……….who could ask for anything more?!
Pretty soon, we are going to hve to out out an updated list of the ITD Management Team.
    .
    .
Hope everyone has a great day!

  150. amyw27

    Morning all.
    .
first- NSB- I guess we have to wait a little longer to check the status of Cory Matthews. bummer about last night. damn Philli weather!!
    .
ERIC- before we get to my title…you told a story about Walton. now I am a Walton, so which one of my relatives were you speaking of??…haha. You know what, I am happy with whatever name you find best suits my situation. You are the management most closest to the players and your input is what matters most 🙂 if 3DAmy best fits the situation than I am all for it. Now, when you are in the dugout watching the game I don’t want the job title to be a distraction if you are not all the way committed to it. lol. This is funny talk now.
    .
Tru dear, good morning. I hope all is well.
    .
nelly- I know you are out there somewhere in school land. Good morning to you too!
    .
    Viva Los Dodgers!!!

  151. trublu4ever

Good morning Nellyae – I think it should be your job, since you are stats queen, to find out the current list of ITD Management Team.

  152. amyw27

    ****HEY*****
    .
    Check out Tmz.com
    .
A few stories down, Brad Penny got into a street fight last night at a Hollywood Club.
    .
Oh my, BP, say it aint so :-/

  153. amyw27

and Eric- I like the A.M.Y part
in charge of the Attitude and Morale of the Youngsters.
    .
I think it’s both appropriate and funny.

  154. northstateblues

Amy- didn’t you know? That wasn’t rain, that way Cory Matthew’s big-headed tears!… not really, but I have an active imagination, heh. I’m hoping he cries so hard, his brother Kevin Arnold from “The Wonder Years” feels it. Maybe Winnie too, but that might be hoping for too much.

Good Morning Tru 🙂 That’s a tall order for Dnelly, I’d imagine, since I know at least me and Amy have a hard time remembering our titles in the first place, heh! Just as long as the titles are long enough to get those Dreifort-sized paychecks, I’m good!

  155. amyw27

*clarification- he didn’t initiate the fight, but he was there and he made the tabloids. But it’s not everyday you see one of our boys in the tabloids! It’s funny cause you can totally tell it’s BP cause he’s so enormous.

  156. amyw27

NSB- hahaha. good to know the real source of the delay! It was going so badly that he wanted to suspend the World Series. Man, that Cory Matthews is one powerful little boy 🙂
I know. I need an easy title. Like Sara, bench coach. Done. and Easy!
    .
I just want to be ‘Team BFF’. that’s all. It can incompass Disneyland somehow. but I want Eric to have a say in it.

  157. northstateblues

Amy, no offense to Bills in ANY way (after all I’d hate to be the guy who throws at a guy in front of storied pacifist Sandy Koufax, and I’m at least three years older than Chad), but I wish Penny was healthy and pitching Game 2 in Philly. judging from that TMZ clip, we wouldn’t have any problems with the retaliation dept., heheheh.

I imagine Shane Victorino getting knocked 5 feet in the air… now THAT’S a Flyin’ Hawaiian!

  158. amyw27

lol. NSB- you are so funny. i totally agree, Penny brings the power. He could knock out anyone anytime. We just need him healthy an on his game. We need the good Penny to come back. I still feel sad that he wasn’t at the playoff games. DY and Sweeny weren’t on the roster, but they suited up everyday and where there to support. It would have been nice for him to help out the team morale…hey, that’s my job!

  159. northstateblues

Oh yeah, today is FREE TACO DAY!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t know if I’ll grab one, always a huge line, I’d rather pay the 89 cents, heh. I’m just waiting for the burger place here to open, Madison Bear Garden. Huge burger, curly fries, and all the grease means that it’s 15 minutes less of old age I’ll have to endure, heheh.

  160. amyw27

NSB- I can’t stand Taco Bell unfortunetly. I’m more a Del Taco kind girl myself. Remember last season when Del Taco had the Dodgers on their Large Soda Cups. I still have my Russell Martin Cup in my kitchen 🙂

  161. northstateblues

I miss Del Taco, this Barstow boy has a week spot for Red Burritos, Double Del Cheeseburgers (with the white dressing, not the thousand island stuff) and the best fries in the nation (Crinkle cut!)

They just put one in Yuba City (the town across the river from us), but I’ve grown to like Taco Bell in the interim. Of course, now that we have Del Taco in YC, I call Taco Bell “Shelbyville”

  162. northstateblues

and I wish I could’ve gotten one of those soda cups! Of course, up here, they’d probably have the Giants on ’em. Boo Giants!

Speaking of hungry, time to feed that hungry parking meter. Be back shortly

    and for good measure…
    GO DODGERS

  163. northstateblues

Ouch. Tell us how you really feel, Jeff Passan…

Baseball’s Crown Event is Beyond Repair
    by Jeff Passan

    Excerpt:
PHILADELPHIA – This World Series is unsalvageable. It is a disaster borne of people who think cowbells and haircuts make them fans, owners who are so greedy that they accept late-October baseball and late-evening start times, and a commissioner who unilaterally changes a rule while he’s carrying the book in his left hand.

  164. amyw27

NSB- I love how you are a SoCal boy all the way. When I was dating my boyfriend from Daly City- I always noticed that Del Tacos were soo hard to come by up north. I remember that he had a Taco Bell down the street from his house and he’d eat there all the time and it grossed me out.
    .
I love my Norcal friends who really love Socal things 🙂
    .
    yes, boo Giants, Go Dodgers!
    .
Tru/rose/eric/Dodger4life- where are my morning chatters?

  165. trublu4ever

3D A.M.Y. & Northstateblues – I’ll bet Nellyae will do the list for us……..she like going back over posts and she can probably find everything we need. Afterall, EnchantedGM and DodgerericManager will need to know who is who to run the ITD Management Team.

  166. northstateblues

I still eat Taco Bell out of convience (and value menu), and their beef and potato burrito is awesome. But choosing between Del Taco and Taco Bell for me is like “Um, do I watch the Dodgers… or do I watch the 66’ers… hmmm…”

NorCal will never rob the SoCal from me, heheheh.

  167. northstateblues

Tru, I think I’m the head of Art and Music last I checked, heh. I guess I have to write a song too… an original at that, so I don’t get sued by the RIAA. Although I have nothing, so they could have it in abundance.

  168. amyw27

yea- NSB- you can make out team logo and write our Pledge of Allegiance.
I just want to throw it out there that I strongly do NOT want a booger as our ITD mascot!!
And I’m glad that the SoCal lives on!!!
    .
Tru- you are here 🙂 We will make a complete list and submit it to Josh for final approval.

  169. trublu4ever

A lot of us have had our titles and job duties changed. I know yours is right. I think it will be fun to see how the Team turned out. I think Dcollins and Scott changed job duties as well as a few others.
    .
You guys are making me hungry talking about tacos……..last night, it was Foster’s Freeze and Bob’s Big Boy!

  170. northstateblues

Here’s a nice little nostalgic read

    ————–

Take a trip to Baseball Heaven
    by Chris Erksine
    http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-erskine28-2008oct28,0,243637.column

    Excerpt:
In Baseball Heaven, the wind is always blowing out yet there’s a no-hitter going into the sixth. Drysdale is on the mound and Mays is in center. Clemente is in right, of course, hands on his knees, daring the ball to come to him. In the outfield, there’s a sign that reads: “Hit this spot, win a suit.”

  171. northstateblues

“I just want to throw it out there that I strongly do NOT want a booger as our ITD mascot!!”

HEHEHEHEH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay, no booger. I guess I have some thinking to do, eh?

I don’t know about tacos, but I’m ready for a burger when that place opens in 9 minutes…

  172. amyw27

Tru- we still have an original vintage Bob’s big boy here in Burbank. I haven’t eaten at it yet, but it does remind me of my youth. The one I had growing up turned into a bank, then a hibachi restaurant. Sad seeing it go. I hate when they tear down vintage places that made us happy!

  173. northstateblues

no prob. Would have a hard time sketching a booger anyways, heheh.

Rally Booger will remain our mascot in spirit, though.

  174. amyw27

wow. I so want a couple of soft tacos right now. When I was a kid, on the way to the beach was an old fashioned soda fountain. They still came out carside if you wanted to order that way. It was always a treat for us on the way home from the beach every summer. When I became a teenager they tore it down and build a Starbucks and a Burger King. Every time I drive by I get made because all those memories are in the past without the chance to make new ones!

  175. amyw27

NSB- you are our resident country/dessert boy. I am so used to living in the suburbs, you’ve lived amongst history!
    .
    have a good lunch!

  176. amyw27

I think ITD as a whole needs to eat healthier. all this talk about junk food, my goodness!
So, who is up for being the team dietitian? Any takers?

  177. northstateblues

soft tacos… now I want tacos! But there’s no Del Taco in Chico… only Taco Bell/Shelbyville.

I laugh in the face of those who say Fries belong nowhere near tacos and burritos! HAHAHAHAHA

Okay, I’m going crazy, guess I need to eat for reals… Burger time at the Madison Bear Garden. Here’s a pic:

    http://www.chicochamber.com/album/Buildings/MadBear07_(2).jpg

it has burgers, a bar (that this commuter student hasn’t hit up yet 😦 ), and it’s less than 50 yards from the hall where I have my classes. Poifect!

alright, NOW I’ll go eat 😀 Have a good lunchtime, Tru, Amy, and whoever’s reading!

  178. dodgereric

    Gooooood morning ITD!!!!!

The sheriff has gone to bother others elsewhere and the mice can play again!

Hiya amy! So, what’s it to be? 3DAmy or AMYamy?

We’ve got a brand new Bob’s Big Boy here in Temecula. It opened during the summer and the burger tasted EXACTLY how I remembered the ones from my younger days in West Covina. The shakes too! As my old Kansas buddy used to say, they’re a little too proud of them (too expensive), but it’s still a great trip down memory lane.

As far as the team mascot, I have to admit that I love the booger. Failing that, how about Grambo? You know, the one under “about me”.
    http://dodgereric.mlblogs.com/

  179. makanani

Aaaahhh that’s right today is free taco tuesday. Too bad I’ll be stuck here at work till 6:30p. Who can turn down a free taco? All this talk about Halloween makes me sad. I have to work by myself that night from 7p-2a. The joys of working in a sports bar.
Is anyone going to this under the lights deal?? Sounds like fun, but having enough time to find the money is the hard part! Have a great day everyone!

  180. amyw27

Eric- sometimes I just feel like i just need a normal position on our team. Not a made up one. Don’t get be wrong, I love what I want to do and accomplish with the boys, but it’s getting too hard to work out and it’s just a pretend position. I don’t know what’s out there that is meaningful, supportive and keeps me close to the team. that’s what I need.
    .
Aww..Temecula. Good times. The more the years pass for me the less and less I crave burgers. I used to always want them, I think my appitite has changed. The thought of a burger is too filling and heavy. I haven’t had a grilled burger in forever.
    .
Ok, I’m off to lunch. I’m eating at home to save money. I have no idea what I’m going to eat, but I’ll figure it out! Enjoy your lunches.
    .
Eric thanks for the quest appearance today 🙂

  181. thinkingblue

Grambo the Dodger! Like it, I’m sure Eric can come up with a catchy phrase and maybe NS can sketch a design and have Grambo sport some Dodger Gear…LOL that is cute!
    .
Hey everyone how is everyone doing. I just went to Taco Bell and I forgot about the free taco…damn!
    .
Talking about Bob’s Big Boy….oh yeah childhood memories. Hey Jeanette does Inglewood still has the Big Boy on the corner of Brea and Century Blvd?
    .
Hey Tru I decided on a Halloween Custome and I’ll be working on it tonight. I am going to be a Greek Goddess! My goal is to spend no money so it will be fun trying to put it together.

  182. trublu4ever

Hi dodgersrule – I think a goddess will be great. I’m going as a baby……..in honor of my son and daughter-in-law who are having twins in January. Thought it would be kind of funny.

  183. jeanette28

There was one on Century and La Brea?! When I was little we use to go to one in Santa Monica but I never knew there was one in Inglewood!

  184. thinkingblue

Jeanette yeah back in the 80’s, it had the big boy statue outside. I believe that is the corner where it was located.
    .
Tru the baby custome is a great idea. It would be funny if you get someone else to dress up exactly like you so that you two can be twins…LOL So are you going in Diapers or Pj’s?

  185. jeanette28

ohh, I was born in ’86..so maybe that’s why I don’t even remember it..lol I love their club sandwiches though, last one I’ve been to is the one in Torrance.

  186. thinkingblue

Jeanette we have a 10 year difference. But yeah the Big Boys was there in the 80’s, I moved away from Inglewood in 87 right after the L.A. earthquake (yes there was a sort of big quake in Oct. 1st of 87) and I will visit maybe every 5 years or so.
    .
Tru the Bonnet sounds cute…you should have Deb lend you her Ethierbear so you can carry him around…LOL!

  187. enchantedbeaver

Gawd I feel old now. Jeanette’s younger than my daughter.

Hey pookie, what’s new with the aesthetics director?

  188. kpookiemon

enchanted, please…it’s “Aesthetics Coordinator.” Goes back many moons when I worked as a graphic designer. Come business-card time, everyone wanted some lofty title. I thought it was ludicrous so I asked for a very important-sounding title that had absolutely no meaning…except in your regime, of course.

I still feel as Aesthetics Coordinator we should revisit the Broxton issue. I know he can be absolutely lights out. But the REAL question….is whether he will become the real deal, closer wise. And that entails, make-up, nad, grit, whatever you want to call it. My proposal to you, oh great and benevolent GM, was to package Broxton with Elbert, Pierre, lots of cash, and something else (DY? Abreu?) for Grady Sizemore. But that hinges on THREE big “ifs:” IF Manny walks away…and IF the Dodgers can sign a closer (Fuentes?)…and the biggest IF…if Cleveland even WANTS to trade him for pitching. The guy is a defensive/offensive stud in his prime.

Now if that proposal still rings hollow, as Aesthetics Coordinator, I’m prepared for the next best thing: Vinny’s play-by-play synchronized to any future national telecasts. He was at least two or three seconds ahead all through the playoffs!!!!!!!!!!!

  189. junkyardjamie

    Well, hello ITD family!!!!!

EnchantedGM ~ I hear I am in charge of keeping track of everyone’s job title. I will work on that, and get it to you as soon as possible. Is that okay with you? 🙂

I will be back. I haven’t been on all day, and I have to catch up to what else has been said. I did see in glancing over things that GRAMBO is our ITD Mascot. I gave him that name. It makes me laugh every time I see him. I expect him to get up and dance like the gopher in Caddyshack, with gun and ammo in hand, singing “I’m Alright.”

  190. junkyardjamie

ETHIER, SIZEMORE, KEMP – NOT BAD AT ALL!!!!!

So, I am a little confused. Are we settled on a name for Amy or not?

  191. junkyardjamie

Thank you Amy – just let me know when you decide so I can make sure I document it properly. You know how our GM can be sometimes 🙂

EnchantedGM – you know this is going to be way to much fun.

  192. amyw27

Ok, I’m looking at the Front Office roster so I can pick a very special REAL job for myself.
    .
What about Special Assistant to the GM??
I was thinking about Enchanted being the GM, he would have the authority to let me hang out in the club house and boost morale from the bench! I could be there and row elbows with management?
    .
    What do you think?

  193. junkyardjamie

Amy – EnchantedGM’s assistant? I hope you know what you are in for? ….. just let me know what you and the powers that be decide.

  194. junkyardjamie

Okay – I am heading to out to run a few errands, then to Michael’s baseball game (last one of the fall ball season), and then eventually home. I will catch up to all of you later, and if you are not on later, have a wonderful evening. I will work on the list. We would hate for out bosses (enchantedGM and Dodgereric/Manager) not to know who to yell at when something goes wrong – not that they would ever have anything to be angry about because we are the BEST you know.

THINKING DODGER BLUE THE WHOLE YEAR THROUGH!!!!!

dnelly/June Darlin’ – Ethieraholic’s CEO, team mom, ITD Historian, and now, enchantedGM’s secretary in charge of job titles and descriptions.

  195. thinkingblue

I do believe we need Amy as the GM’s Assistant, but Amy what about: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TEAM RELATIONS, you know like guest relations (taking care of the guest) but you take care of our team players, making sure their moral is up and they get what they want.

  196. enchantedbeaver

Ms. Nells – what positions do we have open for Miss Amy? Traveling Secretary? Manager Human Resources? Assistant GM in charge of Player Development? Director of Scouting? Head Groundskeeper?

See that something opens up would you!?!

  197. dodgereric

kpookie, if you’re still around: the late and not-so-great Edgewood HS, ’71 also. We probably know some people, but it’s getting hard to remember their names!! LMAO!!!

  198. biddyboo

haha Dodgersrule! It’s business law and he is rambling a bit about everything not having to do with the class. :-/ Something aout advertising and honeycomb cereal! Lordy! What’s going on in here?

  199. biddyboo

J- This laptop is saving me at work bc on slow days which is everyday for me I watch dvds. At school I realized that I take better notes typing! Plus, it keeps me awake!
    .
Amy- when I look up your name in the dictionary it just says, Another way to be cool! 🙂

  200. thinkingblue

AMY, NS, BIDDY, J, Sara, & ACARDONA , the ITD students, what are your majors? I need to go back to school and get my degree in Architecture…someday…

  201. amyw27

    hahaahaha.
    You guys are great.
    .
NSB- I am nameless…great. I do love that move though! I do like the actual line from the movie. The nothing is coming the nothing. The more you think about that movie the less creative it becomes. I mean “the nothing” how original is that?
    .
    Biddy- you are a sweetheart.
    .
Seriously I am getting frustrated with this. I want it badly, but I’m not sure how to make it into a job title!!

  202. jeanette28

I can’t take notes on the laptop! i’ve tried and I just can’t, plain old notebook and a pen for me. I take better notes like that.

  203. thinkingblue

See Amy take Jeanette’s major and make it Team Relations…LOL.. Coming up with your name is keeping us busy here at ITD.
    .
Jeanette what is your ITD job…have you picked one?
    .
Biddy what was your ITD job?

  204. northstateblues

Hi Rose. I’m an English major. And you should totally go to school if you get a chance, I didn’t think I’d ever go to college until I looked into financial aid. I didn’t know the government essentially pays you to go to college.

Amy, I love that movie, but it does seem like they were mushroom hunting when the screenwriters came up with that script. My Girlfriend still can’t watch the scene with Atreyu’s horse… I don’t think I’ve seen that part of the movie in years. For a kid, that was way worse than Pinocchio getting swallowed by a whale

Hi Biddyboo, if I had a laptop, I’d probably never pay attention in class… I’d probably actually be blogging about all the crazy stuff that happens, like the guy last year wearing the Muppets blanket like a cape, plastic crown, cane, tank top, pajama shorts and carrying a stereo, yelling at all the cars in the street while singing with the radio. Plenty of blogworthy stuff there

  205. biddyboo

J- With the Word notebook it looks like paper and everything! I prefer writing it out but I type faster and don’t have to look as I type. The program fixes my mistakes if any! 🙂
    .
Dodgersrule- CSULA Business with option in accounting major. Been in school forever because I went the community colllege route and changed my major often. School is possible for anyone. Including late bloomer slackers like me!

  206. biddyboo

Dodgersrule- I plan on making Stan Conte step aside! Also I will concentrate on pre game stretches!
    .
John! Hola! Just the description of that is making me bite my lip right now so I don’t laugh out loud!
    .
I think it’s the fact that at work I HAVE to multi task and do it well. The worst of it right now is I am not focusing on when he goes off topic!

  207. jeanette28

I usually just take notes by hand and then type out a study guide from the notes that I think are most useful for tests. Plus, I let my sister take my MacBook to Oregon with her, so unless I get me a the NEW MacBook which I REALLY want, I just have my iMac here. Yes I’m an Apple fanatic! lol I wish I had the iPhone though!

  208. thinkingblue

I would be so distracted with a laptop. That’s why in the weekends I try not to blog. I have so much to do with the kids and husband and house that if I sit down to blog, I won’t do anything. Right now I’m suppose to be working…hahaha.

  209. biddyboo

J- I am typing away on my ibook G4 right now! I thought about the Iphone but I am in LOVE with my Blackberry. My sis in law used my student discount this year to get a laptop and she received a printer and an ipod touch for free! Wow, huh! I thought the ipod touch was very cool though. I just just have a regular one.
    .
I LOVE Apple products. They last forever if you take care of it well. I have had my laptop for a few years now with no problems. I want a new one though so maybe next year! 🙂

  210. kpookiemon

First off…I am male. dodgereric, that’s too funny about Edgewood HS. As you know, being swallowed up by West Covina HS altered an institution in the San Gabriel Valley…..from the silver and blue Spartans…..to the black and red Bulldogs. Ouch! No doubt we even crossed paths at a football game or two…or maybe bumbed elbows at Coffee Dans. Small world.

  211. thinkingblue

Thanks KPookie I just wanted to call you, Enchanted & Eric the 3 Wise man (Class of 71) or who knows maybe Enchanted is still “Wiser”…LOL! Have a good night ya’ll!

  212. jeanette28

I got my 30GB iPod for $50 last year when I bought my MacBook! That was a bargain! I want one of those new MacBooks though!

  213. biddyboo

Very good deal, J! I bought mine at work and I thought that was a deal! 🙂 Yes, the new Macbooks are awesome. I love spending time in the Apple stores just dreaming!

  214. northstateblues

Hanging more halloween lights on our front yard. and we put up old tree branches by the tombstones to make a spookier graveyard scene.

Okay, gonna start on Granbo soon

  215. northstateblues

Remember the good ol’ days when MTV showed :: gasp :: Music Videos? Those days have unfortunately long since passed, but MTV finally came up with a way to shut up curmudgeons like me who want our MTV. “not the Hills, not Laguna Beach, I WANT MY MTV!!!!”

Well guess what? YOU’VE GOT IT!!!! They’ve put over 16,000 videos, Unplugged specials, other programing, etc on their new website http://www.mtvmusic.com . I’ve searched for over 25 videos since discovering the site, ranging as wide as the Buggles, Def Leppard, Whale, Nirvana, Foreigner, Dr. Dre, etc… and I’ve found every video but two (no mention of the band Save Ferris, and I can’t find the video for “Kyril”). To prove the diversity, I am currently watching/listening to “Sweet Freedom” by Michael McDonald (the video with Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines dancing with him in the bar).

    http://www.mtvmusic.com

Have fun wasting your time, I know I’m having fun wasting mine 🙂

  216. junkyardjamie

Good Evening ITD, late night edition!!!!

How are we all doing this evening?

enchantedGM – I saw your request. I believe we already have a groundskeeper. That would be Diggie (formerly known as Sparkleplenty),but I will look into other possibilities for Amy.

  217. trublu4ever

She’d be in charge of getting the ladies involved in the activities only the kids get to do now. She’d be the liason between the players and the fans……..setting up autograph days, public appearances, etc.

  218. acardona16

good evening ITD!! i can’t stay long but i haven’t been on in a couple days so i thought i would stop by and see how everyone is doing!!

    .
Dnelly- hey girl! how are you? so it looks like Andre and Russy are going to be there for sure!! I’me extremely sad cause it turns out i MIGHT not be able to go to “under the lights”!! I’m SO SO VERY SAD!!! i’m dying to go!!!

  219. junkyardjamie

Good Evening Ward Dear….. someone has that position, but I’m not sure who. I am working on list. Bluecrewgirl perhaps…..

Hi acardona!!! How have you been?

nsblues – good to see you are putting your talents to work on Grambo.

  220. acardona16

Dnelly- i wish i could say i’m great but honestly i’ve had a couple bad days.. just work and school getting a little overwhelming!! i’ll get over it though!! 🙂

  221. dodgereric

No Scouts tonight, we’re trying to have a night each month where the patrols meet by themselves and do something as a group. I spent time at my mom’s checking the work of a guy who we hired to install grip bars in their bathrooms. He did really top-notch work.

  222. junkyardjamie

Sorry to hear that Acardona. However, just the fact that you are saying you will get through it means you will. Hang in there!!!! I was having one of those days too. I was ready to go home by 11:00. However, it got much better in the afternoon.

  223. junkyardjamie

That’s good to hear Ward Dear….. I am assuming your mom is doing okay.

So, what’s happening with the WS? Are they playing tomorrow now. I haven’t been keeping up with what is going on.

  224. junkyardjamie

Director,Hospitality and Ambassador Program would be good. That way she could help out the players, families, and other elite members of the Dodger Organization, and maybe do some foreign relations too.

  225. dodgereric

Yeah, my mom is ok for now. At least until the next time…..

They’re supposed to resume the game tomorrow.

  226. amyw27

I love you guys. You are really on line trying to work out my situation and I haven’t even been here 🙂 thank you!
    I am touched.

  227. junkyardjamie

……another challenge awaits us Ward Dear. How come it’s always the people that go to bed early that make up these challenges?

There is a story that Magglio Ordonez is going to be on the block, he could be a cheaper alternative to Manny. We can offer Russell Martin to get Ordonez and probably others. We can then sign Ivan Rodriguez, Toby Hall, and/or Johnny Estrada to be our catcher. I love Martin, but this could make us better.

What’s up ITD boys and girls!
Well, I made it back to LA from N.H. Just been very busy to post. Did I tell you all that I locked my purse with my keys the morning that I was taking off to N.H? Boy, that was stressfull. This was at Union Station where I was leaving my car to hop on the shuttle to airport. Had it been only my keys, I would have taken off and taken care of that when I came back, but I needed my ID, credit cards, money…
    .
All this talk about Bob Big Boys reminded me when I used to have a boyfriend that used to take me there a lot. I used to like the hamburger combo with the salad and also the chilli spaghetti. I made fetuccini today and spaghetti over the weekend with white sause. I’ve just been craving pasta.
    .
HI Josh!! As always, thanks for keeping us informed here.
    .
I usually get dressed for Halloween as work usually has a contest but this year we are skipping having a Halloween parade. I usually make my costumes or I start with a dress or something that I fix up. I’ve been Lucy from I Love Lucy, 70’s chick, Sally from “A Nightmare Before Christmas.” and last year I dressed up as Gladys character from the old show Laugh-In. If you are old to remember that show, it was portrayed by Ruth Buzzi. One of my co-workers played the part of the dirty old man and we did a typical scene from the show where Gladys is sitting on a bench at a park and Arte Johnson comes and sit next to her getting closer and closer. Arte asks Gladys “do you believe in the hear after”. Gladys responds “Of course I do”. Arte then says “then you know what I am here after”. Gladys then clovers him with her purse and he falls off the bench. It was fun. We won a prize.

Oh, and kpookie, Edgewood HS were the green and gold Trojans. West Covina HS was (and still is I assume) the Spartans. The school board decided they could only run one HS and they were going to close WCHS until the city called a halt to that thinking. Seems there were WCHS alumni on the council. At least that’s the story I heard.

And I have no doubt that we ran into each other now and then over there at Coffee Dan’s or Bob’s. Hell, there wasn’t anything else in that town! Did you go to MSAC? I went there for 3 years. I had my first knee surgery that stretched my career there. I also worked for 3 years in the Union 76 station at Azusa and Workman during that time. We had a couple of guys there from Covina and Northview.

  231. amyw27

EMMA-welcome back! It’s good to know that you are safe and sound back in LA 🙂 our favorite city!
    .
Acar- I know how you feel. My roommate currently is going through that same thing right now. She is non-stop with work and school and it’s really beating her up. I feel so bad for her all the time. but then I have to remind myself that I went through it for 4 years myself..but I feel for her so much. and you too!
Breath and it will all be over one day and you’ll only have work and free time…yea 🙂

  232. crzblue

Don’t know if anyone have this or suggested this before, but how about traveling administrator special translator or stadium announcer.

  233. amyw27

NSB- you did a really good job. It’s wonderful and looks just like the picture. Your best yet 🙂 3 cheers for NSB my pop star friend!

  234. amyw27

Emma- Rose is the Spanish translator.
I mentioned annoouncer- but we need someone with an awesome voice..just like our friend Eric Smith!

  235. northstateblues

Emma, Ruth Buzzi sounds like a great costume!! Sometimes when my girlfriend hits me with her purse, I say “Wow, easy there, Ruth Buzzi”. It only results in me getting clobbered again, apparently women don’t like to be called Ruth Buzzi… strange.

  236. crzblue

Thanks Amy for the welcome back.
    .
Hey! I went to Mark Keppel HS in Alhambra. home of the Astecs! graduated in the 70’s… such a long time. Went to ELAC after that and then graduated from CSULA. ELAC and CSULA was while I was working fulltime so yeah it took me a while to graduate.

  237. northstateblues

My aunt used to live one block on the East L.A. side of the 710 (by Garfono’s, which is probably the most awesome pizza I’ve ever eaten). When she filled out applications, she lived in Alhambra 🙂

  238. northstateblues

Thanks 🙂 It’s been too long since the last time I drew anything, but with a Midterm today and that paper due last week, I didn’t have much time… and that’s on top of the reading.

I think I’ll work on another one soon

  239. crzblue

Thank Nelly! Boy, so much to read here.
    .
I am still debating if I should dress up for work on Friday..but is hard to come up with fresh ideas after a while. Some time ago I was thinking of dressing up as Frida Kahlo.

  240. junkyardjamie

Good Evening dodger4life!!!!! I was going back throught the recent threads to find everyone’s job title, and I just found out you are just a year older than me. How are you doing this evening?

  241. junkyardjamie

dodger4life – I easily feel like I am only 30, and sometimes even younger. I am sure some of it has to do with working with 6-7 year olds all day, and some of it has to do with having teenagers in the house.

  242. northstateblues

Of course, my thanks go out to Eric for the idea of a Granbo mascot. This was probably the funnest Dodger drawing I’ve done yet! Maybe the next Granbo picture will involve (cartoony) dynamite and a pump switch… just feels like it fits.

Maybe he needs a nemesis… the SF Crab?

  243. dodgereric

Mark Keppel HS………I used to work for an outfit based out of Alhambra for a few years. We were having a going-away party and there were a few libations flowing. After a few hours, one of the guys claimed he could still run a 6-minute mile. Then another and another. A few wagers were made and Keppel had the closest track. We piled into cars, one of which was my nearly brand new VW Scirocco.

We took the gate apart with a couple of wrenches and broke into the track. The ‘track stars’ stars stripped down to their underware and I started them with my stopwatch. We caught two of them cutting across the football field, but one ran a legit lap. I called out his time, “That’s one thirty, Mario! That’s your pace! Three more just like that!” Less than ten more strides and he was done. The other two had quit when we caught them cheating.

I took one of the combatants back to our base in my nearly new car which he promptly threw up into. I would have given him a really bad time about it, but he was so apologetic about it that I didn’t have the heart.

  244. Dodger4life

I have had Grey/silver hair since my early 20’s. I sometimes get senior citizen discounts. People mistake my youngest daughter for my grandchild, but I feel my age. For me that’s a good thing I guess. The silver hair makes it hard to judge my age, my face is still in young looking though.

  245. dodgereric

By the way, my friend who dressed up as the used gum coincidentally stopped by my work today and I told him that I mentioned his costume earlier. Turns out I was incomplete with the description. He had also purchased some cheap pink material and cut a hole in the middle so he could wear it like a pancho. It enhanced the gum effect.

  246. junkyardjamie

LOL!! Ward Dear…. you really do need to write a book. You could take yourself out of most stories, put in fictional characters, and they would still be great.

Dodger4life – I am sure you look distinguished, which is a good thing.

  247. junkyardjamie

…..I still say GRAMBO needs to be able to dance like the gopher on Caddyshack. It will give people that happy feeling – “I’m Alright”

  248. crzblue

So where do you think Peavy will end up. He has listed his preferences of teams in the NL. I think is either Atlanta or Dodgers depending who wants to give up more youngters.
    .
With the Yankees and Mets starving for pitchers I see Sabathia going to the Yankees and D.Lowe to the Mets. i think that because the Yankees and Mets #1 priority should be pitching that we get a good chance of getting Manny but still we need pitching. Peavy would be nice.
    .
Where is the Winter GM meetings this year?

  249. dodgereric

I also like the Crab Nemesis idea! Maybe “dope” him up a little like Patrick Star from SpongeBob. A hat that says “Gints” or “Gnats” instead of SF. Dragging a broken bat.

  250. crzblue

Eric! OMG! lol. You do have lots of stories to tell!
    .
I better get ready for bed. I want to finish reading the paper first. I know..kinda of late to read today’s paper…soon to be yesterday’s paper.
    .
    good night ITD.

  251. northstateblues

    Here’s a REALLY quick sketch I drew:

    http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n156/MercurySolo/LAGranboSketch.jpg

This is based on SF’s disasterous Crazy Crab mascot from the 70’s that has had a recent revival of sorts:

    http://imgs.sfgate.com/c/pictures/2008/07/17/sp-crazycrab18_p_421889648.jpg

I like the idea of giving the crab the (Patrick) Star treatment, heheh. And as you can see, I didn’t waste time learning how to draw the SF symbol, so in the future, I’ll take Eric’s advice and just draw “Gnats”

  252. junkyardjamie

    Good night Emma!!!

Ward Dear…. I think I have most of the people on the list with their job titles. I am just making sure on a couple of them.

  253. dodgereric

June Darlin’, no one would believe a lot of the crap that’s happened to me……….good and bad. I spent most of my young adult life hanging around the most bizarre people. I’m guessing that’s why the Lord got me involved in Scouting later – to balance me out! LOL!!!

  254. crzblue

Thanks Eric. Too bad I cannot be in Vegas during that time. i got tickets to a Laker game on the 10th. I have not been in Vegas since March when I put $20 on the Dodgers winning the WS. So the GM Meeting will be during the elections.
    .
Well, now is really Good night.

  255. junkyardjamie

Ward Dear…….That is probably true about the Scouts, and He probably put you with those bizarre people for a reason too.

I walk into my classroom everyday thinking there has got to be a reason I have THIS group. He sure is making me work for the reason this year. He is definitely putting me through some challenges with patience this year.

  256. dodgereric

You know Junie, I always thought it was the Devil working on me earlier. I never thought of your angle! Interesting!

  257. junkyardjamie

LOL!!! nsblues – I probably won’t show that to my family. I probably won’t get the early Christmas gift I want this year if I show them that. LOL!!!!! Very funny!!!!!!

  258. dodgereric

And Emma, I know you’re off to bed, but how great to get Laker tickets! I’m assuming you saw the opener tonight!

  259. northstateblues

HEHEHEH!!! I might be able to draw the crab as Joe Morgan, but I’m almost positive that the idea of a giant crab would make Miller’s stomach rumble, heheh. Maybe Grambo can pay a visit to Jon and Joe in the ESPN announcers booth. Knock ’em out of the press box, with Vin calling “And it’s a long fly to rightfield… AND SHE IS… GONE!!”

Nelly, I don’t want my little drawing to ruin your Xmas chances, heh. Maybe it can be a Boxing Day (Dec 26) present to the family, heheheh

  260. dodgereric

Are your students progressing at all in the behavior area? Maybe dodgereric needs to come out and lay down the law! I’ll use my really stern voice! It works on our dog!

  261. junkyardjamie

nsblues – I will show them after I get my gift – LOL!!!!!

Ward Dear….. in general, the class is much better. I think alot of it is that last year was such a fabulous year that maybe this year’s class is really the norm, and I kind of forgot that. In particular I have one student who is so self-centered to the point that if you don’t listen to his stories, he kind of has a fit. That goes for me or other students. He has had many adventures as a 6 year old. He hunts, deep sea fishes, scuba dives, lives on a ranch, has been bitten by a shark, he goes a does reinactments of war scenes, and his real father is a firefighter. A classroom is boring to him, I could imagine. I know in my heart that it’s just attention he needs. He obviously feels the need to share these stories with us for a reason, and I am trying to learn how to balance his stories with my teaching because it is literally a non-stop thing all day long. He is very sweet and endearing, but he is a challenge nonetheless. Any ideas? I must say, he is one of the many who write and draw pictures for you daily. So, there is something there that he wants, and I haven’t been able to find it yet.

  262. junkyardjamie

….oh, and I have another student who eats things all day long too. I know I have mentioned him before, but it’s an all day issue because it prevents him from getting any work done in the classroom. However, he is better than the student I had a 3 years ago (Andre – go figure!) who was told at a very young age that he was going to be a Hollywood model, so he felt it unnecessary to be in school. So, he spent the whole year lining up his crayons like Dominoes and knocking them down. He is in 4th grade now pretty much doing the same types of things.

  263. junkyardjamie

Dodger4life – I asked the parents about the stories and they are true. He leads a very adventurous life to say the least. It sounds like he literally travels somewhere every other weekend or so.

  264. Dodger4life

Nelly~ My project is family history I am digging up records from the civil war area. Most if not all from North Carolina, This is a chore!

  265. junkyardjamie

Here is what I found so far or just what I know for sure. I will complete the list tomorrow. If you are not on the list, and know you have a position, feel free to copy and paste your name to the list.

no, he has a baby brother, and some older siblings as well. However, I am not sure which siblings belong to which family. All very nice families and seem to get along even though divorced.

  267. dodgereric

Hmmmm……..”one student who is so self-centered to the point that if you don’t listen to his stories, he kind of has a fit………….has had many adventures………classroom is boring to him……….it’s just attention he needs…….obviously feels the need to share these stories with us for a reason……..it is literally a non-stop thing all day long”………..first grade………probably 7 years old……..what was I doing in 2001?

  268. dodgereric

OK, I don’t see a Massage Therapist. So amy gets that or will be the Director, Hospitality and Ambassador Program?

  269. junkyardjamie

Ward Dear…. like I have said many times, if this is my only problem, it’s not that bad of a problem. God has put me in this situation for a reason, and I am sure someday, I will figure out why, and in the meantime, there are parts of my day I enjoy thoroughly. They love listening to the Junie B. Jones Stories, in which I laugh just as much as they do (they don’t know it’s my ITD alter ego), and they obviously are having fun doing the baseball stuff. That will pay off dearly when the season comes back around again during spring training. When the kids are going home talking about baseball and how the teams are doing, they are doing some listening.

  270. dodgereric

June Darlin’, whenever my boss gives me some thankless, hopelessly terrible job to do that everyone else has begged off from doing, I just tell myself, “If it was easy, ANYONE could do it.”

It sound like a handful Nelly. My middle brother just adopted a 1 year old, he is 3 years younger than me. I think it is a noble thing , but my first thought was I dont think I could handle 20 more years. Mine have about worn me out. I have three teenage daughters.

  273. junkyardjamie

dodger4life – understand the teenage thing very much so – I have a 16 year old daughter and a 15 year old son, and the were both adopted at the ages of 6 and 4. I truly commend your brother.

Ward Dear….. I hear you loud and clear 🙂

I’m sure she does, Nelly, I just can’t remember what it is. it was something to do with therapy and training, I think.

  276. Dodger4life

He is an amazing individual. He also took in two nieghbor boys that lost both thier mother and father, one at an early age. I have a lot of respect for him.

  277. junkyardjamie

amy- i started doing scorecards my way! i can also do that job along with the official team stretcher helper!

By biddyboo on October 23, 2008 5:09 PM

So, is she scorekeeper and team stretcher helper – maybe assistant trainer (she can help jhall) when she is not scorekeeping.

  278. dodgereric

Dodger4, I guess we all just do what we have to do. I have a friend who, along with his remarkable wife of course, raised his family and thought they were done with that stage of life. Now his wife’s sister had a lot of drug problems. No husband, but three little ones. The baby was born with an addiction. The drug problems became really major and prison came calling for her sister. My pal and his wife adopted these three children. They found that the middle child never slept in a bed, she’d just get out and sleep on the floor.

I’ve only seen Manny once since ’98 or so. About 3 years back I ran into him and the first thing we talked about was his ‘second set of kids’. They’re all doing fine, healthy and happy. Manny is a remarkable human and his wife even more so. Even though they saved those kids’ lives, they don’t think they’ve done anything special, they just did what they had to do.

  279. Dodger4life

That’s pretty much the situation with my brothers one year old. Kayla is his wife’s neice. They had to drive 8 hours every weekend to Montana for allmost a year. The other two had a step mom hooked on pain killers that checked herself into Bellvue so to say. Glad to say they are doing remarkably well.

  280. junkyardjamie

Dodger4life – both of our kids are biological siblings, but my daughter was born in Kallispell, Montana and my son was born in Oregon. They also have an older brother that had stayed with us for some holidays, but chose in the end to go back to his mom (he was 15 at the time and was able to make that choice, I guess), and therefore, made the decision to cut himself out of their lives.

  281. junkyardjamie

    Good night dodger4life!!!! God Bless!!!

    WE LOVE OUR DODGERS!!!!!!!!!!
    365 DAYS A YEAR
    24 HOURS A DAY
    7 DAYS A WEEK
EVERYDAY – DODGER BLUE IS THE WAY!!!!

nsblues – good night to you too, again!!!

  282. heartruss

Good morning ITD and DNelly. First of all, thank you very much for my job title. I will promise to take my post as team nurse very seriously and tend to every need. Second, I am so in awe of you, DNelly. You are a very generous and giving person! I respect your brother Dodger4Life. Raising children is not an easy task. Until you have your own, you don’t realize what a huge responsibility it is. Thirdlly, the Under the Lights event sounds interesting but I am not too keen on batting practice, etc since I have not done any of that since I was in middle school and not very well. I’m not athletic like the rest of you on ITD. Lastly, I have watched little of the World Series but what I saw disappointed me as far as the umpires. The publicized bad calls could have been game changing and also enough to deflate morale. The bad calls were always in favor of the Phillies. I would be hopping mad if I were the Rays. I was not happy with the umpires during the Dodger postseason games. Talk about bad calls. Anyway, everyone have a great day. DNelly, talk to you later.

  283. trublu4ever

Nellyae – great job on the Official ITD Management Team list! I knew you could do it! Have a great day at school.

Good Morning, ITD writers and readers!!!
Here is an updated ITD management team list. If you are not on the list and you do have a job, please feel free to copy and paste so you can be added. trublu – Good Morning!!! I think I got everyone 🙂

  285. kpookiemon

dodgereric, West Covina HS is officially the Bulldogs and the colors are black and red. Awful. Drive by it sometime on your way to a Dodger game. I remember the 76 station…it’s still there. But more to the point, West Covina Music Center was right on that spot , pre-gas station…as was a liquor store across the street. The music store was where my brother and I drooled over Fender guitars in the surf days: Musicmaster, Duosonic, Mustang, Telecaster, Stratocaster, Jaguar, Jazzmaster. Where did those glorious, oblivious days go???????????????????

Back to business, as Aesthetics Coordinator, I’m going to outlaw ALL loud music at Dodger Stadium…except for Nancy Bea and selected, tasty Dead space jams. By the way, I’ve yet to hear any Dodger player come to bat to the lilting melody of any Grateful Dead song. Therefore, as Aesthetics Coordinator, I will suggest to enchanted, our illustrious and shrewd GM, to trade for/sign/draft a player who is a Deadhead. Perhaps I’ll even explore the possibility of tie-dye batting gloves for the players……?!?!?!?!?!

  286. amyw27

    Good morning- excellent list!
    .
Dnelly- I would be happy to be the Director, hospitality and Ambassador Program– as long as it means contact with the team.
    .
I will do the Team and the community proud making sure that everyone is happy and full of Dodger pride!
    .
GO Dodgers. Rays better win tonight!!!

  287. dodgereric

kpookie, that’s terrible about old WCHS! It’s been 15 years since I’ve driven around there. I guess “Spartans” is too militaristic or something. LOL!!!

The 76 station is just a self-serve place now of course. When I worked there it was the old-fashioned full service station. We worked hard in there to give everyone good service. Monty was a great boss. Nick Hanich owned that music store then, it was Hanich Music. When I started there, he just had one of those shops, but over the years he would buy out the next tenant, knock down the wall and expand.

We ate a lot from Red Devil Pizza in that building. If you worked the late shift you could get lucky and get a pizza for $2. Sometimes somebody wouldn’t pick up a pizza that they ordered and one of the guys would come over with it. We’d give them $2 worth of gas (at 65 cents a gallon), put a buck each in the till, and eat like a king!

And that liquor store! The Brothers’ Liquor! Once I passed 21, I made a few bucks buying Colt 45 or Old English 800 or Boonesfarm or Southern Comfort or some other cheap, horrid alcohol for the guys in the station that were under 21 on Fridays and Saturdays. Word got out that I was doing it and their buddies started coming around, but I drew the line at people I didn’t know. Yeah, if you were hanging around Hanich Music in the ’73 – ’76 era and you saw a guy with black hair hanging halfway down his back wearing a Dodger batting helmet and driving a green ’68 Chevelle, that was me.

Good morning Dodgereric/Manager, Kpookie/AestheticsCoordinator and Amy/Director, Hospitality & Ambassador Program – Hope you are all having a good day. Good article Eric. Kpookie, I’m with you on your music choices. And, Amy, you will definitely have contact with the team…….couldn’t have it any other way!

  289. junkyardjamie

Good Morning, Ward Dear….. I would hope the same someday. He was a pretty good kid, considering he was a very lost teenager. We would have taken him in in a heart beat.

Amy – Of course you will be involved with the team – the team, their families, and any dignitaries to the Dodger Organization. We will have to work on an actually job description, but it will be fun and exciting for sure.

Kpookiemon – I am glad you are taking your job seriously, and it is very fun to read.

    WE LOVE OUR DODGERS!!!!!!!!!!
    365 DAYS A YEAR
    24 HOURS A DAY
    7 DAYS A WEEK
EVERYDAY – DODGER BLUE IS THE WAY!!!!

  290. dodgereric

……and your little Juanpy can sit right next to you, as long as he doesn’t complain to me that he’s not starting……..

  291. amyw27

    YEA 🙂
    .
Eric- I am honored to have m own spot on the bench.
.I love your stories about your life growing up!! wow, I was just amazed that gas is under $3 now!! You are my favorite Manager 🙂
    .
Nelly/Tru- great idea. I think you all really figured it out last night. Sorry I wasn’t around..but I am happy that it worked out and I get to help out the entire Dodger family. Great stuff!!

  292. thinkingblue

Good Morning ITD…TRU, AMY the EMBASSADOR, ERIC, KPOOKIE, DNEL & NURSE XOXORUSSY I hope you are all doing fine.
    .
DNEL great job with the List
    .
AMY FINALLY! a name….I like it!
    .
OK Aesthetics Coordinator you gave me a great idea…thanks! I think since I am the Director of Activities…here is a little activity to kill time here at ITD.
    *****ACTIVITY TIME*******
Most of the players have a song that they walk up to bat with. It is time that ITD chooses theirs songs…so please submit your choices, name of song and for what player, and why? Make it fun….and HAVE FUN!

  293. amyw27

Nelly- already wrote a “bye bye bye” song for Andruw- look it up on Eric’s blog.
    .
As “Director, Hospitality and Ambassador Program” I proclaim that we are going to be nice to all our teammates. I am Juan’s friend as well as Russy’s and James’. If Enchanted can’t get in on another team where he is happy then we will be nice to him!!
    .
Rose- I’m glad to see you this morning 🙂 you haven’t been around for morning chat the last couple of days!

  294. thinkingblue

AMY – I’ve been busy with work during the mornings. Right now I am still busy, but I’m just having one of those days at work that makes me go aaahhhhh. ITD helps me relax, and makes my day more enjoyable! I am doing multiples jobs here at work and one of them (I.T.) drives me nutts. I hate it don’t want to do it but somehow I’m stuck with it.
    .
MENTAL NOTE FOR ROSE: I will try to be nice to all players!
    .
But AMY can we just have A little fun with them? Like sibling rivalry…you make fun of them but you still love them!

  295. dodgereric

Times are tough these days. Tougher for some than for others. We have a few friends right here that are looking for work, just like my wife. I heard a song this morning that rang true for me and I’d like to share it with you, my friends. No changes in the lyrics. Dan Tyler wrote it. LeAnn Rimes sings it.

    “The Light In Your Eyes”

Life can take your dreams and turn them upside down
Friends will talk about you when you’re not around
Reality can really cut you down to size
But don’t ever lose that light in your eyes
Don’t ever lose that light in your eyes

People make you promises they’ll never keep
Soon you’ll know why people say, “Talk is cheap!”
    Life resembles one big compromise
But don’t ever lose that light in your eyes
Don’t ever lose that light in your eyes

    Keep on shining
    Keep on smiling
Don’t lose faith and don’t lose heart
    When you’re crying
Just keep trying to remind yourself you’re a shining star
    Yes you are

Somewhere down the line you’ll face the judgement day
When the angels look at you…what will you say?
They’ve got a way of knowing who qualifies
Just let ’em see that light in your eyes
Dont ever lose that light in your eyes

    Keep on shining
    Keep on smiling
Don’t lose faith and don’t lose heart
    When you’re crying
Just keep trying to remind yourself you’re a shining star
    Yes you are

Don’t ever lose that light in your eyes
Don’t ever lose that light in your eyes

ERIC, beautiful song. I am so grateful for my job. I work with Architects and I’ve seen just about all my-ex co-works loose their jobs cause of the economy. I use to work for a big home builder. The company had about 4 offices just in the Architecture department across the U.S. The office I worked in was the biggest and that office alone had about 100 employees. Well now all the other offices closed down, and the office where I use to work are down to 10 people. That is it 10 out of almost 200. It is very very sad. I am a computer drafter, but somehow I’m stuck being I.T. which I have no knowledge in and it just stresses me out since I have no idea what I’m doing. Yeah I know I shouldn’t be complaining. If I have to flip burgers I should be grateful…thanks!

  297. junkyardjamie

Ward Dear…. I have heard that song a few times recently. Thank you for sharing. You are just wonderful sometimes, you know?

BTW – We switched a few students in our reading groups today, and I got a new student in my reading class (Andres). He is a HUGE #48 fan (his favorite), and knows about every driver in the Chase and some. The only reason I found out is that my other NASCAR fan had told him that I liked #11, and off he went – rattled off every racer and their numbers – very impressed!!!

  298. thinkingblue

DNEL – Kids now-a-days are very impressive. Who says Sponge Bob is a waste…LOL (I can’t stand Sponge Bob). By the way I love the kid’s name.

  299. amyw27

    enchanted- lol
I still sponge bob day cannot be any worse than the Simpson Characters on the field at home games. I hated that promotion! I love the simpsons but it got really old.
    .
Rose- thank you for being nice to Juan. I will befriend him and then everyone will be happy. you can be playful with him..no problem.
    .
Thank you Eric. Things are tough around here. My company is doing layoffs too and if it happened to me I don’t know what I’d do..I have no backup right now.

  300. thinkingblue

ENCHANTED GM if you approve: The Disney Resource Team will need transportation to Disneyland and spend a day there. We will meet with Mickey & Donald and others. We need our lunch reservations.

  301. amyw27

but first we need to ask Enchanted– we need about 250,000 a year so all the Dodger staff gets a membership to Club 33, which includes free park hoppers for all of their guests. Please have your finance dept work out the numbers and get back to me so I can work out the program!

  302. dodgereric

$250,000? Are you kidding? Is that all? That’s only got one comma! Enchanted loses that much in his sofa cushions!

  303. enchantedbeaver

In these tough economic times, I’m going to have to have all departments submit a proposed budget for the fiscal year 2009 and have it on my desk by 5:00 this evening.

  304. cpompe1

Good morning ITD boys and girls!
Haven’t posted for a couple of days, but I’ve been reading!

NSB – I know I’m kinda late in chiming in on this, but that article about Philly fans is REALLY telling. And I don’t remember that actual crab mascot for the gnats! But loved that Grambo v. Crab sketch!

Nelly! You forgot me! I’m the Head Bat Girl!

Xoxrussell – You’re right about the WS. The umpiring is horrible. And yes, the bad calls were always in favor of the Phillies. I guess we know who MLB wants to win the series.

Eric – Thx for posting LeAnn Rimes’ song and video. I love LeAnn Rimes; she has a beautiful voice! But I’ve never heard that song, “The Light In Your Eyes.” What a beautiful song.

  305. cpompe1

Eric – You were mentioning the news on a couple of our youngsters. Yeah, I read that article. I completely forgot about Lambo! I remember reading about him in our local newspaper (Ventura County Star) when he was at Newbury Park High School! This makes the Dodgers’ future look even brighter!

  306. dodgereric

cpomp, you’re welcome. It’s hard to believe that she was only 14 when she recorded “Blue”.

Are we ready for Lambomania? Lamboholics? Lamby being Lamby?

  307. enchantedbeaver

Secretary Nells… Who’s Director of Concession Licensing at the Stadium? If there isn’t one, then appoint one and get them on the phone. Have Amy come into my office and get Disney on a conference call.

We’ll offer Disney the opportunity to open a Disney Store at the stadium inexchange for Club 33 membership. Only caveat is that all of the characters sold must be wearing Dodger uni’s and gear. If they say no, tell them we’re endorsing Knott’s Berry Farm.

  308. cpompe1

Okay, it seems like my ITD friends have left for lunch, so I will go have lunch too. I’ll catch up with y’all later…

  309. junkyardjamie

Good Afternoon, ITD staff, writers and readers!!!
CP – I had you on my written list, but now you are official.
Amy – no longer a question mark – she’s official now too.
Also, I changed biddyboo to scorekeeper because that is what was originally said, and I think that if we ever to get Old Fogey/westernmost/Porklinks back, he would make a fabulous statistician. We could actually have several. Jungar would make a good statistician as well, among others.

EnchantedGM – #1 – A budget for each position? and #2 – do I need to keep track of that too.

    GM – enchanted
    Manager – Dodgereric
    Trainer – jhall
Bench Coach – sara ( and Erica Durance)
    Head Bat Girl – cpompe/CP
Head of Security – Scott (assts – Jessica, Angelina and Halle)
    Aesthetics Coordinator – kpookimon/Kahli
    ITD Merchandizer – trublu
    ITD Activities Director – dodgersrule
    Royal Usher – Dodger4life
    Groundskeeper – Diggie/Sparkleplenty
    Team Artist – northstateblues
Chief Garbage Removal Engineer (unruly Fans) – dcollins
    Team Psychologist – Obi (appointed)
    ITD On-Site Event Reporter – Emma/crzblue
    Team Mom/CEO ETHIERAHOLICS/ITD Historian – dnelly/June Darlin’
    Team nurse – xoxrussell
    message therapist – bluecrewgirl
    Community/Media Relations – Jeanette
Director, Hospitality and Ambassador Program – Amy
Scorekeeper and Assistant Trainer – Biddyboo ?

  310. cpompe1

Okay, as soon as I say that everyone else is out having lunch, EricManager and EnchantedGM show up!!! So, how are you boys doing?

  311. junkyardjamie

EnchantedGM – we do not have anyone in charge of Concessions Licensing. I will look into that, and get back to you.

  312. cpompe1

And my Nellygirl! I’m official now! Great! And you’re right – Old Fogey/westernmost/Porklinks and Jungar would make great statisticians!

  313. enchantedbeaver

Hey CP!! Doing well thank you!!

Nells – once the budget’s are submitted I’ll need to borrow your red pen…

  314. cpompe1

Oh, and Eric – Any of those three (Lambomania? Lamboholics? Lamby being Lamby) will do!!!

And EnchantedGM – Are you getting headaches yet from people second-guessing your every move and/or non-move???

  315. thinkingblue

    Hello All,
    Back from lunch.
    .
Enchanted I will have my budget by 5 (but maybe tomorrow). See I am Director of Activities and also the Spanish translator. Now I need to figure out how many players need translation. Both Ethier & Martin came up to me cause they want private Spanish Lessons (they will pay for that). Also Amy is incharge of the Disney so she will give you the budget for that one.
    .
DNEL you are always on top of everything..good job.
    .
    Cpompe how are you doing?

  316. enchantedbeaver

    I don’t know Kahli…

I’m too sexy for GM, too sexy for GM, do my turn around the desk, yeah around the desk, round the desk yeah…

    LMAO!!

  317. enchantedbeaver

    Andre’s pretty,
    Oh, so pretty,
Andre’s pretty and witty and bright!
    And I pity
Any Andre who isn’t me tonight…

  318. thinkingblue

Well Enchanted…that was funny. But I think that each time there is a meeting and of course you will be head of the meeting, when you make the room entrance you should have the “I’m too Sexy” song playing…LOL

  319. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

i hope that i’m the ACTUAL bench coach and erica durance is just something “shiny” for manager eric’s arm 😛

  320. dodgereric

Hi sara! EXACT-I-MUNDO!!!! NAIL ON THE HEAD!!! (As a matter of fact, I’ll most likely be leaning on you really hard as my attention to game details is likely to waver from time to time.)

  321. enchantedbeaver

“…my attention to game details is likely to waver from time to time.”

In otherwords ManagerEric – kinda like Joe. LOL

  322. cpompe1

Dodgersrule – I’m doing fine. I still haven’t heard about my interview with Ethan Allen. I did talk to the store’s Operation Manager and he did say that the General Manager who I interviewed with a couple weeks ago wouldn’t be back until this weekend. I’m still looking, though.

  323. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

haha you guys are all too funny~
i wanted to clarify that i hope my knowledge of this team would be higher than erica durance..

eric.. i will make all the decisions but you take all the blame! 🙂

  324. dodgereric

LMAO ENCHANTED YOU ARE THE MAN!

    “kinda like Joe”

I deleted “just like Torre” from the end of that post just to see if you’d put it back AND YOU DIDN’T LET ME DOWN!!!

  325. dodgereric

sara, you’ve already shown that you’re more than capable of running the team. But I won’t stand for any belittling of my erica… 🙂

And I’ve got very broad shoulders! THE BUCK STOPS HERE!

  326. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

but see eric, that’s why i wanted to be the bench coach, and not the manager. i can make decisions to run the team, but i don’t want to take the blame or deal with the media! behind the scenes is my game!!

  327. dodgereric

And that’s exactly why our relationship is going to work out, sara! I have no problem with you making the decisions. Even if you screw up, I’ll look forward to dealing with the media. I’ll even look forward to dealing with Simers! I know what he wants, so I’ll give it to him! I’ll have no worries as long as Erica is there to rub my temples!

I don’t watch Smallville because of Jimmy Olsen…….

  328. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

    haha eric. sweet~
you can deal with the piranhas, and i’ll deal with the players 🙂

  329. enchantedbeaver

Several years ago I was told by a native Brazilian that “piranhas” refer to prostitutes down there.
    .
Just more useless information I’d like to impart upon my ITD brethren.

  330. dodgereric

I love a good fight. Writers are stupid. I’m gonna love this.

OK, I’ll deal with the piranhas too. (Give, give, give. Never take, always give. It’s hard to be so nobel.)

You don’t carry around a ruler, do you June Darlin’?

  331. thinkingblue

ERIC…is handling the “Piranhas” covered in the budget…I am sure ENCHANTED will approve…but DNEL may not???

  332. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

wow, enchanted. thanks for the useless bit of info. interesting to say the least~

  333. cpompe1

kpookiemon – I’m working on your other suggestion: “I’m So Tired”

Maybe later I’ll do “I am the Walrus” for Andruw Jones!

  334. thinkingblue

Just watch Mr. Kpookie; Martin will return tireless, just watch! “I’m so Tired”….hahaha! IT is funny, but he will return “TIRELESS”

  335. northstateblues

After the way Andruw talked about Dodger fans in whole (lumping in the ones wanting to see him do well with the boo birds), the great song “I am the Walrus” is MUCH too cool for him. I suggest this old Beatles chestnut instead:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KynpC1e9I9E

It’s your call, Kahli, just making a suggestion 🙂

doing more Halloween stuff… sigh, hoping to come home and relax (and do more Grambo drawings), but it’ll all pay off friday night 🙂 I think me and Grambo are going to be friends… especially since I have neither Richard nor Gere in my name…

um, I’m guessing there’s no rimshot coordinator yet, heheh 🙂

  336. kpookiemon

cpompel, I’m answering the call of dodgersrule who wanted “new” songs that would usher a player to home plate when batting. About the only real one I remember is “Immigrant’s Song” by Zeppelin for DeWitt. Anyone remember any others?

  337. thinkingblue

KPOOKIE…Hu had several songs “Who let the dogs out” was one, then Ethier was “Tres Deliquentes”, Then Nomar used “Low Rider” (but that song reminds me of George Lopez). So now ITD should pick the songs for next year! LOL

  338. dodgereric

    I’m a loser
    I’m a loser,
I’m not worth what they give to me.
    I’m a loser,
And I’m just what I appear to be.

No matter how many games we have lost,
There is a line we should never have crossed.
Should earn our keep no matter how much we drew,
Our names are Nomore, Sweeney and Phew.

    I’m a loser,
I’m not worth what they give to me.
    I’m a loser,
And I’m just what I appear to be.

Although I laugh and I act like a clown,
Beneath this mask I am wearing a frown,
I get 36 mil for only 2 years,
When that’s gone I’m buying my own beers.

    I’m a loser,
I’m not worth what they give to me.
    I’m a loser,
And I’m just what I appear to be.

What I have done to deserve such a fate,
I’ve stayed too long, now it’s really too late.
I’ll have a Hall of Fame plaque before too long,
I’ll snatch it up before they see that they’re wrong.

    I’m a loser,
I’m not worth what they give to me.
    I’m a loser,
And I’m just what I appear to be.

I used to rub crap on my sore right arm
Now I can’t catch, throw or hit with alarm
All they need from me is to spell Russ
Once in 10 days, I am really a bust

    I’m a loser,
I’m not worth what they give to me.
    I’m a loser,
And I’m just what I appear to be.

We’ve won World Series and gotten our due
It doesn’t matter to Ned that we’re through
He pays us millions for throwing BP
We’re Lowe and Penny and Procto makes three

    I’m a loser,
I’m not worth what they give to me.
    I’m a loser,
And I’m just what I appear to be.

We are the darlings of the DL list
We get our money and are hardly missed
Our names are Esteban Bloaiza and Schmidt
We are extremely rich and really can’t do……..

    I’m a loser,
I’m not worth what they give to me.
    I’m a loser,
And I’m just what I appear to be.

See, Sara, what will happen is that while you are really running the team, ManagerDodgereric will be sitting in his Barco-lounger coming up with new songs for players that EnchantedGM has generously acquired for him, or has traded away. In turn while Secretary Nells is doing EnchantedGM’s job, he will also be writing songs, but they will be about how his staff can’t seem to put together a winning team with what he has given them. EnchantedGM and ManagerDodgereric – this is going to be just too much fun 🙂

BTW – FANTASTIC SONG WARD DEAR!!!!!!

  340. trublu4ever

Amy – I didn’t mean to make you upset this morning when I did the Juan Pierre song………..I know you like him and, the only reason I even brought it up is because he says he wants to be traded. I do wish him well and, I don’t dislike any of our Dodgers. Please accept my apology. We have way too much fun together.

  341. dodgereric

LOL Junie! Just like in the corporate world, the level of work produced is inversely proportionate to the level of pay!

  342. junkyardjamie

Ward Dear….. Honestly, I know that if this were real, you and enchanted would never let anybody do your job. That isn’t part of your character, and you would make sure those working around you were treated like royalty.

  343. cpompe1

Okay, I refreshed and saw that Eric beat me to the punch! So what else is new! I told you before that I’m slow on this song-writing stuff. Okay, I’ll abandon my “I am the Walrus” for Andruw. Actually, “I’m A Loser” fits much better. Well done Eric!

  344. dodgereric

You guys did notice that “I’m a Loser” is a re-post from back in May, right? I’m not that fast.

And my last post was from “Ghostbusters”. Another good one for a movie night.

I gotta go home, my mother’s calling me. Later!

  345. cpompe1

Okay Eric, no, I didn’t notice that. That’s what computers do to me when I’m on them for too long. I guess this is my cue to say, I’ll catch up with y’all later…

  346. junkyardjamie

Oh Eric!!! Ghostbusters would be a blast!!!!!!!!!
“It’s the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man” – has me in tears every time – LOL!!!!!

  347. amyw27

Oh Tru- I wasn’t upset at you. I know how you guys feel about Juan and you know how I feel about him. In my new position I want to make sure that he is treated nicely. He wants out, I want to see him happy. But if for some reason EnchantedGM cannot trade him I want to make sure that we take care of him 🙂
    That’s all.
    .
Thank you for understanding Tru. We are always friends 🙂

  348. northstateblues

Hey Amy, I was just thinking of our conversation yesterday… while we were Halloween shopping, we had Del Taco (YAY!!!!!), which I ate part of while driving, and was going to finish it in the parking lot of the next store we were going to.

I was driving around in the parking lot looking for a good spot, and saw Taco Bell across the street. I immediately pulled the car into the parking space and said “This is the perfect spot! Take that, Shelbyville!!!”. my girlfriend likened it to “making out in your ex’s driveway”

  349. northstateblues

Well, at least we were knocked out by the champs, more than we could say for Boston, eh…

Oh, who am I kidding, this sucks

  350. jeanette28

this does suck. I have to go change my mood on myspace now…lol….was this the worst series ever or is it just me??

  351. sl7180@hotmail.com

Me too at least it wasn’t the Giants or Cubs that won it. Damn why do you need to put the Lakers/Clippers on 2 different channel. Who cares about the Clippers announces? I really hate when the Clippers have to share the same arena as the Lakers. It’s going to be wierd if the Clippers win a championship there.

  352. bluecrewgirl

I was hoping the Rays would win after the way the Philly fans disrespected Andre’s blog. Bummer. Oh well, onto the Lakers. They look pretty good so far. Sara and Amy, have you decided if you’re going to the Under the Lights event?

  353. northstateblues

It definitely feels like one of the worst, Jeanette. Almost as bad as the two consecutive years of NY-ATL.

  354. sl7180@hotmail.com

Wow they just show Torre at Staples Center on ch 9. If I watching ch 5 they wouldn’t done that. You know their Clippers fans in the house when Kobe get a little booing.

  355. amyw27

NSB- hahaha. Take that Shelbyville!! Them and their beet tree… suck on that! hahaha.
    .
yea, Cory and Shawn are painting the town tonight. They probably snuck out of the house out the bedroom window to go party with Topanga. Morgan probably already told her parents with her doll in hand. Mr. and Mrs. Matthews will go to Pheeny’s house to have him help them track down Cory and Shawn because they are responsible parents 🙂 Booo Phillies.
    .
I am glad you got some Del Taco in your system. Good way to get your mind on happy things.

  356. northstateblues

I didn’t even watch the game, actually, I changed the channel when I got back, and I saw that the Phillies and Selig were on the field, and I changed the channel, and started messing around on mtvmusic.com .

Del Taco does make it better, though

  357. acardona16

Hey bluecrewgirl, Acardona, and biddyboo – How is everyone?

nsblues – As team mom, I have a suggestion about Grambo. What if we design a stuffed animal version of Grambo, that is somewhat animated, meaning he dances like the gopher on Caddyshack and sings “I’m Alright”. That way when JP is sulking in his corner because he is not playing because EnchantedGM couldn’t find a team willing to take him, he can hold Grambo, and Grambo can sing to him “I’m Alright.” It’s bound to give him some joy while he rides pine in 2009. We can actually have a couple or three or four for any of our players who may not be having a good day. However, my guess is that if JP is still on this team in 2009, he will need Grambo alot 🙂

Hey nelly! Just here, for once relaxing and not studying for once. I plan on cramming a bit tomorrow morning. How are you and who is Grambo? I have a lot of catching up to do!

Hi Bluecrewgirl and Biddyboo! You’ve read what I thinhk of Philly, so… well… the Lakers are looking pretty good right now

Acardona – sorry to hear that about your job. Hopefully they’re too hungover to celebrate tomorrow.

  362. bluecrewgirl

Hey DNelly, I case you didn’t know, the episode of Chef Jeff with Andre in it is on Sunday. I’ve been watching it and it’s a pretty good show. Did you hear the Chargers fired their defensive coordinator? I hate to see anyone lose their job, but they have too much talent on defense to be so bad. Shawne is great and they do miss him a lot, but the drop off shouldn’t be what it has been.

nsblues can enlighten you on who is Grambo. He is our ITD mascot.

Acardona – did we assign you a job? For some reason I thought we had you as team photographer, but I wasnt’ sure.

  364. northstateblues

Hi Nelly! I’m all for that, they’d sell like hotcakes! The sounds of Kenny Loggins eminating everynight from the dugout might have an effect on everyone in a 10 yard radius, though. But then again, this is the team that had William Hung’s “She Bangs” cover as its song a couple of seasons ago, so they’ll have a tough skin

bluecrewgirl – I watched the first 2 espisodes, and they were great!! Thanks for the update on Andre’s showing. As for the Chargers, I did not hear that, but I haven’t been looking ethier. Rivers is doing a great job getting me points, but you are right, the defense isn’t doing so well. They cost me a few compared to other teams. This week they have a bye so I had to adjust all of my players. I don’t expect to do so well. I am holding strong in 3rd (I am tied for 2nd in wins and losses, but I have less total points).

    How have you been?

  366. junkyardjamie

Biddyboo – It’s okay – I am a Sacramento Kings fan 🙂 However, the Lakers are my 2nd favorite if the Kings don’t go anywhere, which is usually the case.

  367. bluecrewgirl

Hey northstate, yes the Lakers are looking good, but I’m waiting until they play some good teams to get too excited. The Clippers and Portland suck. Are you a Sacramento fan for basketball?

  368. bluecrewgirl

Sorry that I left a “t” out of your name Jeanette. This site keeps making my cursor jump when I type tonight, lol.

  369. bluecrewgirl

I’ve been good, DNelly. Thanks for asking. How’s school?

Jeanette, it’s actually a pretty interesting show. Chef Jeff was in prison for a while and learned to cook while he was in there. Once he got out, he decided he wanted to do it for a living. It took him a long time to work his way up. He’s a chef at a restaurant in Vegas, but the show is based upon his catering company and he hires some at risk kids and gives them a chance to work with his company. If they make it all they way through, the get a scholarship to a cooking school.

Bluecrewgirl, I’m a Lakers fan still, and take crap for it a lot being 30 miles north of Sacramento. It’s fun, though, listening to the frontrunners (as opposed to the knowledgeable fans) yelling “LAKERS SUCK!!” and telling them “see all those banners in the rafters? How many are hanging in Arco? Yeah.”

I’dve rooted for the Kings in the playoffs if the Lakers weren’t good at the same time. Just like I probably would’ve rooted for the Cubs if Arizona was worth half a…

I’ll make sure to catch some episodes before Sundays, maybe tomorrow since I’ll just be home baby-sitting my niece. I usually just watch shows like “First 48” and “Lockup” and I am obsessed with wedding shows like “Who’s Wedding is it Anyways?” and “Say Yes to the Dress” I don’t know why!

  372. bluecrewgirl

Goodnight biddyboo. I can’t remember the last time I was in bed before 10. I am a total night person. NS, that must be hard to be a Laker fan where you live. I’m looking forward to their first test with a really good team, but they’re dominating the bad teams so far like they should.

  373. northstateblues

Bluecrewgirl, that’s my number 1 frustration is losing to teams they should beat. Especially when the team has this much potential. I still think that if Bynum was healthy, the Finals would’ve ended different, but that’s old stuff 🙂

  374. bluecrewgirl

Jeanette, it’s on the Fine Living Network. The wedding coordinator gives the couple 3 wishes of things they want her to take care of for their wedding. It’s pretty good.

  375. bluecrewgirl

I agree ns, the finals would have been different with Bynum. Gasol is great, but he’s not physically strong enough to handle a team like the Celtics in the trenches. They really man handled the Lakers inside.
