DeRo takes D-Lo deep

Not the ideal way to start out of the scoring, but plenty of time left in tonight’s game. I’m guessing there will be plenty of people hitting up DeRosa’s blog after his homer…

Meanwhile, Andre’s Dining with Dre blog has turned into a postseason journal four our cleanup hitter. Be sure to check it out and leave your comments, there, too.

It’s very windy here, so we could see a few balls leave the yard toward right field tonight. Clearly DeRosa’s kept carrying…

Alright, enough of this nonsense. If any of you are still in the office back in LA, you have my permission to get home to watch the final six innings. I’ll try to post again after the game.

Need big things from our lefties tonight. Other than that dying quail Dewitt got, it’s been non existent so far.

  2. vl4ecc

I’m so happy for James! It really looked like that Dempster had him fooled bad with that splitter up till that slam!

  3. lbirken@aol.com

I was going to post that if you looked at the number of pitches for Dempter with all the walks you would figure he would be down by a few runs. It just took a bit more time for that to happen. Loney has been great with the bases loaded.

  4. jungar@wsgcorp.com

Oh my gosh that was rad. I was just yapping about bad hitting. Muttering on and on to myself and my bemused 10 month old and when it was 0-2 i said trying to muster positive vibes, here comes a single over SS. Boy was I wrong. Way to go James. The score is where it should be based on how each team has played so far.

OHHHHHHHHHH YYYYYYYEAHHHHHH LLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNEY. You just made your momma’ so proud!

I am not suppose to be watching or hearing or reading about the game (forbidden by my husband since we are recording it), but I can’t help it if my brother keeps texting me or my co-workers keep giving me the 411 on the game.

  9. oldbrooklynfan

We got a good chance to win this game if Lowe can keep navigating for a few more innings.
It would be great to win at least 1 of these 2 games before going back to L.A.

  10. porklinks

Huge inning for Lowe. Top of the order for Cubs, he needs to shut them down here and not give any runs back.

  11. lny4loney

    JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMESSSSSSSSSS
    LLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. lny4loney

I can’t believe I’m going to the Neil Diamond concert tonight. I would have backed out on it to stay home and watch the game, but I’m already in trouble with my wife so I better go.
    .
I’ve wanted to see him live forever, but he could have picked a better night. 🙂
    .
    GOOOOOOOO BLUUUUUEEEEEE!!!

  13. crzblue2

    Dodgersrule,
Same here. I keep getting texts and calls. One call is from one of my friends in St Louis where they hate the Cubbies! She is rooting very hard for the Dodgers!

  14. oldbrooklynfan

That’s good to shut them down the inning after we take the lead. That’s how it’s done.
It’s been a long time since we won an opening post season game and we got a good chance here.

  15. oldbrooklynfan

Win or Lose so far the Dodgers, although a little anxious, are playing the Cubs tough without too much help from Ramirez.

  16. lbirken@aol.com

Still a long way to go to win this game so we need to keep up the pressure. Speaking of pressure, Andre did very well hitting in front of Manny. Hitting behind Manny may be even more critical.

  17. bluecrewgirl

How awesome! I had just pulled into my carport in my condo complex when Loney hit the slam and I went crazy. I looked around after to see if anyone was walking by and fortunately they weren’t or they would have thought I was freaking nuts.

  18. perumike

Couldn’t the Dodgers add goat horns to their batting helmets? 🙂 And maybe a black cat tail hanging from the back of the helmet?

  19. lbirken@aol.com

That last DeRosa at bat was big! It looked as if he had Lowe’s number but not that time. So far a big time game from Lowe but does he have much left?

  20. northstateblues

    MANNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Dodgers owned Wrigley Field once. They tore it down.

  21. bluecrewgirl

Manny!!! He is amazing how easy his swing always looks. It is so fluid. He can get around on those low pitches.

  22. lbirken@aol.com

How great it is to walk away from my computer and come back to see the Dodgers scored another run and then to find out Manny did it. Trying not to get to ahead of myself.

  23. vl4ecc

Sorry! Double with error. Yes ibirken. All American WR for the Irish. Caught alot of Touchdowns from Brady Quinn.

  24. northstateblues

:: drinks :: :: moves elbow up and down a-la-Jack Nicholson in Easy Rider :: Much better! Thanks Seesky!

  25. lbirken@aol.com

I thought so. Then this is personal because he caught a huge last minute pass against UCLA two years ago that beat my Bruins. I hope we score a bundle on him.

  26. ramslover

Great job Dewitt and Blake…Lets get game one…James big stick Loney and Manny being Manny….Great job by Lowe…

Anyway I am sure most of you saw this but Mark Sweeney is a true professional and we all dogged him this year, with good reason. But here was his quote on not making the team..

Sweeney, who hit .130 this year, was disappointed but not surprised.

“It’s not about individual stuff. It’s about having the team win,” Sweeney said. “Unfortunately, I made this decision easy. That’s why I’m upset. It’s disappointing for the right reason. Anyone with a competitive feeling inside that’s worked hard to get to this point would be. But it’s what we’ve got to do.”

Ken Gurnick is a reporter for MLB.com. This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball

Maybe this attitude is the reason that Torre kept him on the team all year…Not saying it was right but he is a heck of a person and probably a great teammate. If only he could have been the PH he had been the last ten years…

  27. lbirken@aol.com

Darn it Kent, you ruined my bundle of runs plan. Oh well, I will take the one run for now. Even though Dodger hitters have only 7 hits it sure seems they have been patient at the plate tonight.

  28. northstateblues

Yeah RamsLover, Sweeney seemed like such a leader in all the interviews, I wish that it would’ve translated to his offense. At least he didn’t have any illusions about how his season went, I remember when he was with the Jints, every time he came up you had to watch out.

  29. oldbrooklynfan

Nice to see B L A K E chime in after the smooth swinging Witty smacks one to the wall.
Now we have hold them down.
    LET’s GO BROX

  30. bluecrewgirl

Ramslover, Sweeney does seem like a good guy and a team player. I’ve never heard anyone say a bad word about him on a personal level.

Seesky, I dub thee bearer of the good luck flask, lol.

  31. crzblue2

tip i found from the Dodger fourm:
“Hey Dodger fans, just wanted to let you know that there is a way to listen to the home town radio feed with Vin Scully while watching the game. Here are the requirements for it. if you are lucky enough to have an MLB.com Audio subscription, tv, and dvr/tivo you are in luck. A) tune to your mlb.com audio subscription and log in and tune into the KABC feed. B) With the TV and DVR/Tivo, go about 30 seconds behind live, and you can fine tune the DVR/TIVO, and then either fastforward the DVR/TIVO. And bam, you are in luck, no radio feed ahead of the tv, everything in synchronization. Hope this helps. I can’t think of a better way to start a post season. Come out, mash the gas, and keep the hammer down never letting up.

  35. bluecrewgirl

Andre and Russ have both hit Zambrano well in the past, so hopefully they can send him kicking the Gatorade.

  36. jhallwally

Maddux says; “You shouldn’t have let me go to the Braves way back when or you might have won a championship.”

  37. crzblue2

good night gang! good night Vin!

  38. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

We got rid of that playoff losing streak in a big way!!!! We needed to get , at least, one road win. That means we have 2 games at home. One win in our pocket and Bills going in Game 2. Looking Realllll Gooooood!!!!

  39. oldbrooklynfan

That was a great victory we all should be proud.
Winning the first game on the road is just unbelievable.
We’re not going to be swept this time and we might even win.
    LET’S GO BILZY!!!!!!!!

  40. trublu4ever

Jhall ~ I am breathless! Could have used a couple of stiff drinks to get through the excitement! However, two drinks, and I probably would pass out and miss all the fun. lol

  41. porklinks

crzblue – dead on. His Royal Thighness vs. Carlos Z., I’ll take my chances. Zambrano could melt down at any moment.

  42. trublu4ever

Seesky ~ Much better! I love it. Did you notice how the Cub fans just sit there motionless……….I believe the announcers said “Sitting on their hands.”

  43. boblee14@yahoo.com

Yeah, What did I say. We take game 1, we take the series from the cubs.
    .
A few hits or a couple of dingers off Zambrano, and he will blow up.
    .
Would be nice to go back to LA up 2-0.

  44. trublu4ever

bluecregirl ~ I am all of them………….have to add Manny Maniacs and Russell’s ? Help, I’m stuck!

  45. junkyardjamie

jhall – my son – no way!! He’s thinking the Rays, which if the Dodgers weren’t here, I probably would be too. My husband is playing neutral right now.
    .
Hey boblee – how are you doing sir? recovered yet? lol!!!

  46. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

yay! i’m out of class now and i’m SO SO SO happy and proud of our boys!! i heard the wind was blowing in but then there were 4 homers in the game so maybe not.. and russell chimed in with a homer! thanks dnelly for full naming russell! he deserved it 🙂

  47. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

TrueBlue–Yeah, Cub fans got real quiet in a hurry after Loney’s grand salami. They’re used to it. They quickly realized this isn’t the Dodger team they beat 5 out of 7 in the regular season.

  48. porklinks

It ould be great to see His Royal Thighness put up a great start in a playoff game for a national audience so he could get some of the pub he rightly deserves. Remember who got so much press love for pitching in the playoffs last year?

    GS IP….. H… HR BB K… ERA ERA+
    30 200.7 189 17 40 194 3.27 145 – Josh Beckett 2007
    32 200.7 188 14 80 201 3.14 141 – Chad Billingsley 2008

  49. trublu4ever

Porklinks ~ I think Billz will have a great game tomorrow. Winning game one will take the pressure off and he can just throw his great stuff!

  50. porklinks

Miss Debbie – I kinda agree with your son. The Tampa Bay Dodger Rays are my second favorite team in the playoffs.

  51. jhallwally

Hey Trumom. I had a chance to see the Jessica Simpson segment on Dancing With The Stars. Good god, you were right. That was pathetic. LOL!!!! Some of these athletes and celebrities have no shame.

  52. porklinks

TruBlue – I am optimistic as well. Strikeout pitchers tend to do well in the playoffs – Chad about 9 per 9 IP, Zambrano under 7.

  53. bluecrewgirl

Lol, jhall. Cliffy from Cheers was pretty bad when he was on too. Can’t believe he made it as far as he did.

  54. junkyardjamie

    porklinks – I agree.
    .
jhall – he has his moments, but he did have to rub it in a little about Ethier and his strike out with bases loaded.

  55. junkyardjamie

Max – pinch yourself!!!!! pinch yourself again!!!!!! did it work? you are not dreaming – it really happened… the Dodgers won!!!

  56. trublu4ever

Jhall ~ And to top it off, Kim was so devastated after being booted off! All she does is shake her big butt. I thought in dancing, you had to move your feet too!
    .
    .
Speaking of Jessica, Tony Romo better dump her or his career will be ruined!

  57. arayd

    hey dodger fans,

no time to get analytical or cerebral here. in caveman sense we frickin’ clubbed the cubbies. let’s keep it going. hey eric, throw all the potentials at us, throw all torre’s failings from 2 and 3 decades ago at us, hey ethierholics show how your boy didn’t get it done but the rest of the lineup did. ENJOY THE SHOW FROM YOUR SAFE NEUTRAL LIVING ROOMS ITD’ERS!!!! LET’S GO DODGERS!!!!!!

  58. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

TrueBlue, I don’t know if Cub fans are the curse but they’ve been cursed with a lot of lousy teams. Cub fans like to blame everything on curses but their teams just haven’t been good enough. Bartman may have affected the course of that inning in that Marlins-Cubs playoff game but he didn’t give up the runs that lost the game.

  59. trublu4ever

Jhall ~ in her interview back stage she said she would love to stay on the show because of all the costumes…….thought she was supposed to dance! What an idiot.

  60. arayd

hey guys, i am brimming with happiness with the win. all dodger’s contributed, and we’ll enjoy this tonight and carry over till tomorrow!! c’mon BILLZ!!!!!! shut ’em down!!

i love all ITD’ERS regardless!!! ITD’ERS = TRUE BLUE FANS!!!!

  61. aeversw

Yes trublue. I had my dre shirt on. It will be on tomorrow too! I still can’t believe we won! I mean, I knew we had the ability too but I still can’t believe it. Bills going tomorrow!!

  62. junkyardjamie

It was a total team effort. Everybody did their part tonight, whether on offense or defense. If I recall James wouldn’t have gotten his grand slam if Ethier didn’t get a crucial walk. So, maybe he didn’t get the grand slam himself, but he sure played a part in James getting his. That from a proud ETHIERAHOLIC!!!

  63. trublu4ever

Seesky ~ i remember the Bartman “play” as if it were yesterday! They still blame him, when as you said, it was the runs scored in the inning. The Giants fans don’t blame their losing seasons year after year on a curse….they just know the teams sucked. Some of the Cub teams haven’t been bad. They just couldn’t find a way to win.

  64. trublu4ever

Max ~ Even when we were down 2 runs, I knew we’d win the game. We weren’t pressing and you could see we were having a good time in the dugout.

  65. leekfink

My Loney has a first name,
    It’s J-A-M-E-S
My Loney has a second name,

I love to watch him every day
And if you ask me why I’ll say
‘Cause James Loney has a way
    With H-I-T-T-I-N-G!

  66. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

Agreed, TrueBlue!!! We’ve had our fair share of teams that couldn’t find a way to win. The 50’s Dodger teams that lost to the Yankees all those times. The “51” and”62″ teams that lost to the Gnats in playoff games. At least, we didn’t blame them on curses.

  67. arayd

nelly, abso-freaken-lutley, ethie drew a walk and L.A.’S new BIG GAME JAMES – ripped one!! absolutely. this is a team effort, and as the best friend i have in this world said, ethier is a special player, and when special players do their job, sometimes it’s allowing another player to do his. I bet the cubs never thought stop ramirez, pitch around ethier and strikeout who? loney? james who?

    LET’S GO DODGERS!!!!!!

  68. junkyardjamie

jhall/Wally – I have learned from the best – don’t mess with June Darlin’ ~ Ethieraholic’s charter member

  69. boblee14@yahoo.com

Hey nelly, No I haven’t recovered from that loss. I think it helped the Cowboys to see that they aren’t going to waltz thru this schedule, and they’re actually going to have to so some work to win this conference.

  70. junkyardjamie

It’s good to see you Boblee – at least the Dodgers are one team we can cheer on together. Good Night!!!!

  71. jungar@wsgcorp.com

    Via Chicago by Wilco:

I dreamed about killing you again tommorrow night
And it felt alright to me
Dying on the banks of Embarcadero skies
I sat and watched you bleed

Buried you alive in a fireworks display
    Raining down on me
    Your cold, hot blood
Ran away from me to the sea

  72. arayd

as i yelled at the top of my lungs at barragan’s in echo park tonight

“LET’S GO DODGER’S” clap clap clapclapclap

    “LET’S GO DODGERS – clap – clap – clapclapclap!!!!!”

  73. junkyardjamie

This is a great feeling to know the Dodgers have won the first game. What a statement it sent tonight.

  74. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

so i followed gameday on my computer while in class.. but i didn’t ACTUALLY get to see the game.. but now i get to watch it on tivo.. be back after catching up with the best parts!

  75. bluecrewgirl

Sara, I’m glad the game tomorrow starts later. I was at work until about the 5th inning and I was checking on the game, but it’s not the same as being able to watch it.

  76. junkyardjamie

bluecrewgirl – I had to watch on computer until I got home just in time to see Andre’s walk and James’ Grand Slam. I was kind of glad I didn’t literally see Andre strike out with bases loaded. It was hard enough watching it by computer. However, that walk set up James’ grand slam so all in the timing I suppose.

  77. junkyardjamie

sorry eric3492 – I live in nor-cal, or I would help. Keep checking in though; somebody here is bound to know 🙂

  78. bluecrewgirl

I was glad I didn’t see him strike out either. I saw it on the computer too. He still walked twice and scored a run, so he contributed to the cause. He hits Zambrano well, so I think he will have some hits tomorrow. His last at bat he just came up a little short, but hit it pretty well. Man, this blog is crashing a lot for me tonight.

  79. bluecrewgirl

It’s annoying. I took northstate’s suggestion and am typing in Word and copying and pasting if I’m typing more than a sentence.

  80. northstateblues

It was painful to watch, but from what I saw, it was a pitch he had to swing at. The breaking ball tailed off right as it crossed the plate, it looked like a good low-away pitch to reach at on a full count.

  81. junkyardjamie

I usually do that if I know I am typing more than a paragraph, but I generally don’t have to do it for the small stuff. I guess I should be glad I can get back on. The day I don’t, then I will really worry.

  82. junkyardjamie

nsblues – thanks for the optimistic approach. At least he came through and didn’t get the out the next time he was up. All I kept thinking was, “here we go again”, but he did is usual good at-bat and drew the walk, and then James. After that, all was good again.

  83. bluecrewgirl

DNelly, I can get right back on when it happens, it’s just a pain to have to retype things. I think if they can get Zambrano frustrated tomorrow they will do well. He doesn’t seem to do well when things start to go south for him.

  84. cpompe1

Good evening ITD boys and girls!!!
Wow!!! That was incredible!!! And I didn’t even see the whole thing!!! I had to go to church tonight and had to leave the house by 5:30 PT today. But I did see James’ grand salami!!! But my son texted me the results as he knew I wanted to know!!! He’s such a good boy!!! Oh, and btw, at least my son got a job!!! I didn’t, but at least that makes one less unemployed person in our household!!! 🙂

  85. bluecrewgirl

It would be awesome. They were talking on Dodgers Live tonight about how all the east coast journalists act like the Dodgers have no one else that can hit but Manny and they all said basically what crap that was and how great all the young guys have done this season. There were interviews with quite a few players. They had a clip with Andre and he seemed in good spirits.

  86. junkyardjamie

That’s good about your son CP!! It was a great game. I got home just in time to see it – it was pretty awesome.

  87. cpompe1

Oh, and I wanted to let everyone else know something. When Josh up top, “Meanwhile, Andre’s Dining with Dre blog has turned into a postseason journal four our cleanup hitter. Be sure to check it out and leave your comments, there, too,” I thought he was talking about Dre’s post about his day off in Chicago yesterday where many of us posted already. But when I went to look, Dre has a new thread and there were ZERO comments under it! So I posted my comment; I encourage all my ITD buddies to say something to Dre!!! 🙂

  88. bluecrewgirl

That’s great news about your son, CP. I didn’t even notice the new post on Andre’s blog. I will have to check it out.

  89. cpompe1

Thx Nelly!!! He’s a good boy and I’m also thrilled that he got a job!!! I don’t think I’ve been prouder of my son than I have been the last month or so. He has REALLY taken on more responsibility around the house and is a lot more thoughtful than he was just a short time ago! I guess Jim and I are doing something right!!! 🙂

  90. cpompe1

Thx bluecrewgirl!!! Now that it look like that Dre will be posting a little bit more often, I’m definitely going to have to check it out more often!!!

  91. dodgereric

    Well, I’m impressed!

Before I left work just as the game was starting, I read this otherwise well-written and mostly Dodger-supportive article on this series:
    http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=8139

Unfortunately for the writer, he wrote this pretty damned inaccurate line on Big Game James: “With relatively immobile hitters on base ahead of him, and with his season representing an already altogether massive disappointment for Dodgers fans, Loney gives this series a pair of first baseman as likely to wind up goats as heroes.”

Would you like some BBQ sauce to help wash down those words?

  92. cpompe1

Oh and bluecrewgirl, about your comments about the east coast journalists, their bias doesn’t surprise me. I’m just thrilled that our FSN guys know better. Soon the rest of the country will know about our young gun dynasty!!! 🙂

  93. junkyardjamie

Good evening Ward Dear…. How was your day? I will go read the article right now… be back. I had to post on Andre’s blog first, but you got there before me.
    .
CP – thanks for the heads up on Andre’s blog. He is so very cool.

  94. junkyardjamie

Okay – I didn’t read the whole article. I skimmed it for the best parts. I think many writers/reporters are eating some words right now. Some have sorely underestimated the Dodgers, which is purely to our advantage for now.

cpompe, thanks for letting me know about ‘Dre’s post. I missed Josh’s comment in the excitement of the game. It’s been too long since I’ve felt like this in October.

Come to think of it, being 27, and 7 the last time the Dodgers won the first game in a postseason series, I don’t think I’ve EVER felt like this in October. It’s just one game, and we have at least two more games to worry about, I know. Some people talk of getting monkeys off their backs. Tonight, I feel like I’ve shedded a 400 lb. gorilla.

ndeschenes ~ The Dodgers did it!! They won game one of the NLDS. It is great to hear from you, and a marvelous post at that. Have a wonderful evening!!!

  98. cpompe1

NSB – Not a prob. Like I said before, I didn’t think it was going to be anything different from what I saw yesterday, but when I saw a new post and 0 comments, I just had to comment and tell my ITD friends!!! Plus, I hear ya about being too long since you felt like this in October; I’m the same way!!! 🙂

  99. cpompe1

Hey, I know a few of us have been complaining about computers kicking people off? And NSB made the suggestion of typing into Word and copying and pasting? Well, I’ve been doing that exclusively tonight (well, typing into my notepad). NSB thx for the great idea! It works great!!! 🙂

  100. dodgereric

One of the best things to see after the game: “Rafael Furcal played nine innings for the first time since May 5 and reported feeling no pain in his surgically repaired back. . . “

  101. dodgereric

Whoops, I did it again……….I know better than that. Well, it’s been a few weeks since I called amy sara, or was it sara I called amy? mea culpa 😦

  102. dodgereric

Rats, another day that I’m not perfect.

I don’t really have anything against the Angels, but I’m glad they lost. Those Angel fans at my work have been loving the rubbing in of the “20 years, 1 playoff win, we won the Series last, blah blah blah”.

  103. junkyardjamie

I had a pretty good day; nothing to complain about. School was pretty good. Mariya had church, and the boys went shopping for paint, etc. I ran a few errands, and then I got to enjoy the end of the game with my cats and dogs, who of course, are Dodger fans. They know who feeds them.

  104. dodgereric

I got to spend 3 hours at the bank getting put on my mom’s checking and savings and bill-paying and safety deposit box. Then I found out that she paid almost as much to deliver and install a new microwave oven as it cost to buy it in the first place, so I picked it up myself and installed it tonight. I heard James’ slam in the parking lot of the Best Buy, but I got to watch the rest of the game at her house.

It’s interesting that she turned herself inside out helping us when our kids were little but it’s so hard for her to ask for help. A midwest mom……….

  105. junkyardjamie

Well, that was wonderful of you, but I’m sure it’s nothing new to you. 3 hours in the bank is a long time. I think it’s hard for many people to ask for help, don’t you think? But, yes, those midwest and I would have to probably think southern moms would be the hardest to help. They are so used to being everything to everybody, it’s hard for them to have to be dependent on somebody other than themselves, especially when it comes to taking care of their house and kids.

  106. dodgereric

I think you’ve hit on the biggest thing, the feeling that she’s dependent. I hope she loses some of that or it’s going to be a little tougher than it has to be.

I’m exhausted. I had a bunch of Scout stuff and fantasy football work to do tonight and did nothing. I better turn in early and try again tomorrow. Matt starts his hockey season. We’ll be leaving for that in about the second inning. Root Billz on to greatness for me, will ya?

  107. junkyardjamie

I sure will sir!!! Get a good night sleep, and I will see you tomorrow sometime, I’m sure. Good Night and God Bless to you and your family 🙂 Actually, Michael has a game at 5:30 so I will probably be able to catch the end of the game. So you watch the beginning, and I will finish. Good Night!!!

  108. dodgereric

Good night to Dodger Nation! It’s just one game. We’re not in this for just one game, or just one Series. Let’s not forget who we are. We win World Series! Great game tonight, let’s keep it rollin’!

Good night June Darlin’! God Bless to you and yours!

  109. enchantedbeaver

Good morning ITDland. And ain’t it a LOVELY mornin’?

I wonder if that slam by James will be the catalyst for him to turn the corner from being a good player to a great one. Not that 90 RBI was a failure, but he’s got much more potential.

We’ve seen Andre come of age this season (and still has more upside), but Marty, James and Matt though very good, haven’t turned the cornet yet. Tonight’s a test for Billz to see if he can turn that corner from very good to true ace.

Whatever the outcome of this series, its valuable experience for the young guys for next season and beyond.

  110. trublu4ever

Good morning Enchanted ~ It was quite a game last night. I think, besides Manny, there will be a new hero or two everday. I was amazed at how quite the fans got after James’ grand slam……..even Andre mentioned it on his new thread….”Silence is Golden”

  111. enchantedbeaver

I’m still shocked as the post season roster – old Joe used some of the gray matter. Feel bad for DY though. Wild ride for Ozuna too – released by the ChiSox, DFA’d by the D’s, no one wants him so he goes to Vegas, then gets called up onto the 40-man again, and now’s he’s in the playoffs.

  112. dodgereric

Yep, e. At the risk of sounding like I like him, I’ll give Torre a reprieve for the time being. Tell the hangman to take a smoke break. He’s either seen the light or taking advice. Do you think he took 162 games to figure out his Yankee teams, too? I feel bad for DY as well, but I guess he just wasn’t considered versatile enough in the field. That would be something I’d work on in the off-season, if I were him.

  113. junkyardjamie

Good Morning, ITD writers and readers!!
It’s a very good morning to be a Dodger fan, especially when you are the only one in the house. There is not much being said about the gnats these days, which is very nice. I guess you can say that about the other 22 teams in the mlb as well.
    .
Have a great day Dodger fans!!!
    .
    GO DODGERS!!!!!
    .

My post from yesterday…. I’m reposting it because it worked!! Momentum and motivation are on our side!!!

Come on and keep it going Dodgers!!

  116. dodgereric

Hey brandon, I intend on reposting Danny Kaye’s Dodger song also! Can’t hurt, right? LOL!!!

And yeah David, it’s just you.

  117. enchantedbeaver

    LMAO Eric!!!

I honestly don’t think DY’s with us next year. He’s about the only tradeable commodity where we could get value in return, and he deserves a shot at a starting position somewhere rather than becomming a professional PH at his age.

One thing that scares me this playoff season – JP’s the “defensive” replacement for Manny.

MY LONEY HAS A FIRST NAME, IT’S J-A-M-E-S
MY LONEY HAS A SECOND NAME, IT’S L-O-N-E-Y
I LOVE TO WATCH HIM EVERY DAY
AND IF YOU ASK ME WHY, I’LL SAY
‘CAUSE JAMES LONEY HAS A WAY
    WITH H-I-T-T-I-N-G!!!!!!!!!!!!
    – leekfink and martinloneykemp/lny4loney
    .
James has struggled at times this year, especially with GIDPs. However, he still led the team in RBIs.
    .
Last night’s grand slam made me think of how well James played in Sept of 2006 and Sept of 2007.
    .
The greatest thing about last night’s victory (other than the victory itself) is the reminder that with this lineup of eight, anyone at anytime can go deep. Each of the eight starters has the potential to hit 20+ HRs in a season.

There’s a victory song in here somewhere, it just can’t wait to be fully baked before it comes out.
    .
All the young dudes, carrying the Blue
Dodgers rock, Dodgers rock, Dodgers rock, Dodgers rock
Dempster walks the bases full, can’t decide to whom to pitch
Then James Loney goes bam, bam,
    And out go the lights!
Way up high, way up high, way up into the sky.
All the Cubs fans let out a big sigh
And the Billy Goat says nnnnAAAAAAA!

  121. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

    acardona, i’m glad you’re going to andre’s event 🙂
i think it sounds like fun, but $500 is too steep for me..

  122. dodgereric

Yeah, yeah, yeah, James Loney hits into a lot of DPs.

    He’s also hitting .300 w/men on base
    He’s also hitting .304 w/RISP
    He’s also hitting .333 w/runners on 2nd & 3rd
    He’s also hitting .367 w/bases loaded
    He’s also hitting .425 w/runner on 3rd and less than 2 out

  123. selltheteam

Looking forward to a repeat of this blessed event that occurred on September 6, 2007:
    .
CHICAGO (AP)—Wrigley Field was rocking in anticipation of a Cubs’ victory. Then Andre Ethier tuned out the noise, turned off the crowd and sent the Los Angeles Dodgers to a stunning victory.

Ethier connected on a three-run, pinch-homer in the ninth off closer Ryan Dempster, and the Los Angeles Dodgers used a four-run rally to beat the Cubs 7-4.

“Take, for instance, the bleachers out there. Everyone out there is having a good time enjoying the party, and then all of a sudden something like that happens,” Ethier said.

“The stadium is still filled, but it’s like everybody left. It really changes the complexion, the way the game is going and the way it had been up to that point. It takes life not only out of the crowd, but also their team.”

  124. messagebear@msn.com

This is a new and energized Dodger team; therefore, everything is possible. Our heroes are playing like they belong in October. Love that feeling, and carry on, Dodger Blue.

Let’s not forget to FIRE NED nevertheless when it’s all over.
He just doesn’t belong here, never did, and never will.

  125. dodgereric

Great trip down memory lane, crash! Everyone talks that we’re a different team than the one that played the Cubs earlier in the season and they’re right. But you don’t see it written often that, though we lost the season series, we played them really tough!

C’mon boys! There’s no reason we can’t beat these overrated media darlings. Billz, you gotta bring the “A” game tonight and let Kuroda turn out their lights in LA!

  126. junkyardjamie

Crash – I do remember that! It was a great moment in Dodger baseball, and the silencing of Wrigley Field was priceless, just like last night.

  127. homesbuybrent@yahoo.com

ITS ALL OVER!!!! Dodger fans must be kidden themselves if they think they can win this series. Phils in 5!!! Manny cant do everything for your team! The Phils are clearly the better team. Quit kidden yourselves!

    GO PHILS!!!!!
