Dining with 'Dre…and almost getting a cycle

Quite a day for Andre Ethier

He started out this morning by continuing his community efforts by visiting the Weingart Center in Downtown L.A., which is a comprehensive human services center for homeless men and women located near “Skid Row.” He helped serve food to approximately 150 at-risk men and women and visited the site of the center’s residential building, including its learning labs. (Andre’s relationship with the center dates back to last season when he took part in a batting practice fundraiser at Dodger Stadium for the facility).

Then he posted his most recent restaurant review at Dining With ‘Dre…a stop in at the trendy Pizzeria Mozza, one of Mario Batali’s famous places in Hollywood.

And then he headed into a key September game with the Padres and proceeded to start the game 3-for-3 with a walk…including a single, a triple and his team-leading 19th homer. His eighth-inning chance at the cycle was foiled by a groundout.

But, most importantly, with the Dodgers’ fourth victory in a row, the team heads into tomorrow’s series finale just 1.5 games back of Arizona with the weekend series against the D-backs looming at Dodger Stadium. And I hate to say it, but there won’t be a lineup posted tomorrow…hopefully you know why.

Yeah we know why.

How cool is this. Andre finally gets the props he deserves!!

Thank you soooo much Josh!!! Have a great evenking!!!
.
Ward Dear….. I did get repeat questions, which felt maybe it was a 2nd chance to get the harder ones right, but I’m not sure if it helped in my case – LOL!!!
.
As for the kids, I haven’t seen Ethier (either) one of them tonight, and I haven’t seen Beav all day – probably road trip is what I’m guessing :)

Don’t engage, don’t engage, don’t engage, don’t engage, don’t engage, don’t engage, don’t engage, don’t engage – Okay – I think it sunk in this time – sigh :)

Bluecrewgirl – they actually showed the interview for a change. It usually gets cut off here, but tonight it stayed on long enough to see him – he is just incredible right now….

dnelly ~ DON’T ENGAGE, DON’T ENGAGE………..!!!!!!!

Keep your foot on the clutch, Darlin’! LOL!!

Right about now, ndeschenes is maxing out his shift key making CAPS!!!

Glad you got to see it this time. Torre just gave him props in his post game talk, said it’s not just hitting, he said he’s in the game with base running and every aspect.

bluecrewgirl ~ That’s really good to hear. For a while I thought Joe didn’t know Andre was on his team!

Super Excellent Fourth In A Row 8 to 4 Victory By Our Beloved Los Angeles Dodgers over the San Diego Padres where all Our Super Heros Displayed Awesome Super Powers! Super October World Series Champions Is Our Destiny!

Ward dear ~ maybe it got scared away again… hmmm!!
.
bluecrewgirl ~ He has just been incredible!! His review is pretty awesome once again. He is just downright funny too.

dnelly ~ I think oberon is on the other thread!! This one’s not to his liking.

Welcome in, ndeschenes! A little tongue-tied tonight? :-) LOL!! Just kidding, you’re awesome! We always look forward to reading your posts! You have a wonderful imagination!

ndeschenes ~ you must be tired. Two nights in a row you have given us short summaries. I personally like the long posts myself. Anyhow ~ it’s really great to hear from you!! Let’s make it a sweep so we can see you for a 5th night in a row – have a wonderful evening and a spectacular tomorrow.. :)

Yep, I was right.

What a great game that was. I keep thinking about how well they are playing right now, and it just makes you wonder even more, what happened in Philly and Washington – it’s like this team is Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hide. 5 games ago, we thought it was pretty much over, and how many times this year have we felt that way?- LOTS!! Then, the next thing you now, we are a game and a half back again. I guess dbacks don’t want it badly enought ethier (either)

June Darlin’, they’re showing dreamboat Andre, Before The Bigs on Prime Ticket.

Ward Dear ~ I have it downloaded onto my computer because sara so generously sent it to me. Also, she is sending me an actual dvd of it, along with the others they have done this year – His story is incredible story if you haven’t seen it.

I’m watching it……

i know what you mean trueblue, he never seemed to comment even when he had a good game. Nice to see him finally notice.

Andre is L.A’s shining star!, Finally getting the respect He deserves from Torre. He will be a key player this month. Hopefully He wont take off too much time, Maggie will just have to do with out Him a little while more. He will be a great full time Daddy in about 2 months. His destiny in LA awaits Him.
Love you Andre!
Paula

Ethier grounded out in the eighth to fall short of collecting the third cycle in the last two days. He’s hitting .314 with eight homers in 102 at-bats since the beginning of August. He has 12 homers in two months, matching Juan Pierre’s career total in 5,117 at-bats. Sep. 3 – 1:54 am et

That’s an interesting stat that came from an article I just read.

http://www.presstelegram.com/sports/ci_10367400
.
The first half of the article is about UCLA and the 2nd half is about the Dodgers – stuff we already know, but love to see in print in another forum other than ITD.

Ward Dear .. JP did leave with back spasms like you thought.

Yep, I knew it right away. I’ve felt exactly like he looked as Duncan was going to his aid. He’s going to be out for 3-4 days or the rest of the season. Probably 3-4 days. Hopefully anyway. We really could use him on occasion.

I’m knocking off for the night. Eyes are swimming around, I feel like Oberon is in the room. I’m still in the trivia game. I still think it has no end. :-)

Good night and God Bless, June Darlin’!

I see you are at 11140- that’s awesome!!! Have a good night Ward Dear, and I will see you in the am sometime :)
Good Night and God Bless to you as well…..

Here’s a really cool perspective on Jeff Kent. He doesn’t seem like the type that would go tooting his own horn on his charitable contributions. It comes from the T.J. SImmers article “It’s a no-brainer, Dodgers’ Ned Colletti is baseball’s best general manager”:
———————————

TODAY’S LAST word comes from Sara Baron-Recalde: “I was an athlete at Berkeley playing field hockey. When I was a sophomore my coach called me to her office. She said this may sound a little weird, but you are getting a scholarship from Jeff Kent. Up until that point in time the only scholarship a field hockey player was getting was for books, but from that point on half of my tuition was paid for by Kent. He paid for others as well. I graduated and have my parents and Jeff Kent to thank for not having to repay any student loans. He gave me a break, maybe you all should give him one.”

And tick off Kent — are you crazy?

Back a couple of threads to my post on the Ethier baby blanket: yes, those were the double doors that the players come through after their showers. I couldn’t believe how excited I was walking through that hallway. It’s kind of off limits for us mortals. A very kind security person will be my friend forever. Thank you for all the wonderful feedback about my adventure. I wanted to share it with all of you. I’m like many of you on this forum, I love Andre. He’s everything: he’s kind, friendly, compassionate and also the best, most talented baseball player. And he also happens to be gorgeous.
Tonights game was so much fun. I was sitting near the bullpen so I could see the relief pitchers warming up. Baby Clay was brilliant. Andre was the fire of the team. And Manny was being Manny. Russell actually got on base. Beimel closed the game well. What can I say except do it again tonight (I guess it is already Wednesday) I’m paying for my post season tickets today at the game because I have a good warm feeling that I will need those tickets. :> ). Talk to everyone later.

Was at The Ravine tonight and It was one of the best games I’ve been to in a long long time. I didn’t know I was going until 3 and the tickets were right behind home plate. Easily the best seat I’ve had in my 20 years of existence.

The Highlights: Clayton Kershaw, when this kid throws strikes he is lights out. He pounded the zone earlier and the 2 runs in the 8th weren’t his fault but I’ll touch on that later in my post.

Andre Ethier: He has such a beautiful swing. He reminds me of Eric Karros except left handed. Peter Gammons said he could be the best of the young Dodgers and he currently is. I think he’ll eventually get passed up by Bison but Dre is proving to be an above average major league player. Also, I’d like to take credit for his home run tonight. I bought an Ethier shirt tonight and his next at bat he went deep! You’re Welcome Andre!

Blake DeWitt: He also has a beautiful fluid swing. He has the ability to be a good player in the majors and it will just be a matter of time before he’s a regular at this level. He had a great night tonight both offensively and defensively. When was the last time you could say our second basemen had a great defensive performance in a game?

The seats: You haven’t watched a baseball game until you’ve sat behind home plate at Dodger Stadium.

Low-lights: Joe Torre: why run Kershaw out there for the 8th? It was just plain stupid. Also, Tonight would have been the perfect night to see what J Mac’s got and instead we wasted Beimel and Troncoso. J Mac can go more then 1 inning why not letting go 2 tonight and save some arms you are more inclined to use in close games (although I dont think Troncoso should be on that list) And I think we’ve gone over this before but Pierre shouldn’t start anymore for this team. He went a predictable 0-4 before getting hurt.

During the game Steve Lyons came and sat in front of us a few rows and I got his attention by yelling “Psycho!”he heard me and gave me a goofy look fist pump. And as he was walking past us to leave to go do Dodgers Live I yelled “Tell Frank to fire Ned PSYCHO!” and he flashed this weird smile. Im not sure if he tried to smile or he just had farted. None the less tonight was great. I’m going to be the game Friday night and I am very excited. 4-0 post Kent. Lets keep it that way.

Not to be a buzzkill like Kent but xoxorussell…That was a touching story but you probably just got that security guard fired! haha

Woo-Hoo, win streak!!! Good morning ITD. Sweet win and a great time to get hot. Let’s hope the Blue can keep it going. Way to go Kersh, Dre, and Manny!!!

Interesting and funny, on ESPN radio they were talking about Kent being gone and the Dodgers winning four straight and playing better. Coincidence? I think not!!!!

Good Morning 57 dodger ~ it was a great game last night and I have a feeling we will be using a broom today to complete the sweep.

Forgot to comment on your item about Jeff. He does have a certain affect on a clubhouse…….not exactly a team guy. I think they play more relaxed without him.

Hi Trumom!! Yep, sure would be nice to put the broom to the Puds today.

Tru, that is what they were mainly referring to on the radio this morning. LOL!!!

Another thought on Jeff……you wonder, if when he was playing with Barry, and there was all the talk of dissention, if it was Kent and not Bonds, who was the culprit.

Good Morning jhall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great game last night!!!! It’s great to see you here in the am.

Good Morning Trublue ~
Still soaking in all the Ethier news – fantastic night he had – Wow!!!! He is all over the place right now, and it’s nice to finally see Joe talk about him as an all-around ball player.

Good morning Nelly!! It is good to see Andre finally getting his due kudos and props.

jhall ~ Yes, it is!! I was glad to see Blake DeWitt have a good night too. He and Andre would warm up together during pre-game, and I am sure Andre is glad that Blake is back. I know I am. What could have been if Andre were playing everyday. Jungar mentioned it last night, but boy, if we come up short by one game, what could’ve been if Joe had just played Andre from the beginning. I don’t believe we would be sweating it right now. We could easily be coasting into the playoffs or at least have everyone chasing us for a change.

Good point Nelly. I think you are right.

Well, jungar made the point, and I just happened to agree with him. I think we keep forgetting about the other 3/4 of the season where we where the lineups were horrible and we were seeing “I’ve Got You Babe” for some time. Eric is thinking JP will be out for several games with his back. It will be interesting to see what happens when Andre has to leave for those few days – will it be JP, Jason, or DY?

Totally messed up the second line -sorry – LOL!! and to think I went to bed before 1 am last night – so much for that – LOL!!

I’d rather they play DY or Repko than JP.

good morning dnelly ~ It was great to see Andre, Manny and Blake DeWitt have great nights. I’m REALLY glad Joe is giving Andre the credit he deserves. All the “kids” are playing loose right now and I think Manny is the reason. I agree with Jungar and 57 dodger about us losing by one game…..would definitely be Torre’s lack of commitment to play Andre everyday.

jhall/57dodger/Wally ~ DY or Repko all the way. You know how I feel about JP – nothing further to say at this time :)

LOL Nelly!!!

Okay, it’s been decided here, NO MORE JUAN!!!! I finally was able to post on ‘Dre’s blog….your advice on signing out and then back in worked!

LOL!! right back atcha 57 dodger/jhall/Wally (which is something your father, Ward Dear, would say) – scary at times, isn’t it? LMAO – too funny!!!

Kent shouldn’t have dissed Vinny. Vinny has power. Even if Vinny don’t no it.

max power…you do have a way of being negative. Thanks but no matter what you say, you have not spoiled what joy it brought me to make Andre smile. I’m sure the security person has been kind to other fans. That is why I think the Dodger stadium staff are the best. They all have always been courteous and attentive. Mr. McCourt has always emphasized customer service to his employees and I think they do a great job. Hi everyone else on ITD. I knew would get at least one negative comment. Oh well! :> (

good afternoon ITD!!!
kinda quiet in here huh? :-) ANDRE WAS SO CLOSE TO GETTING THE CYCLE!!!!! 19 home runs!! and he hit it right after i got off of here.. I missed Dnelly’s “ANDRE EVERETT ETHIER” haha!! its just ETHIERIFFIC!!!! I can’t wait to go to the game saturday and cheer him on!!! hopefully he’s still here since everyone has been saying he’s going to be leaving soon to join his wife for the arrival of his baby!

Hi all, long time no talk! Anyway, I see that my Pierre Piano just missed it’s target! But we’re getting closer! :)

xoxrussell…My comment had nothing to do with you or your blanket. That was a great story and a very nice thing you did for Dre. My comment had EVERYTHING to do with Frank McCourt trying to keep the “Commoners”, thats Fans that don’t have multimillions in their pockets, stay away from the players at all cost. Plus my comment was halfway sarcastic, hence the haha at the end of it but with Frank you never know. That security guard could be chained up in some dungeon right now.

perumike ~ It’s great to see you on here again!! Welcome back. I definitely thought of you last night when that happened. Have a great day, and don’t be such a stranger :)

Thanks dnelly! I’ve been busy with work, started a class last night, etc. But I’ll be by more often!

Hey Acardona ~ Andre’s night last night was incredible, Ethieriffic I guess you can say. He certainly doesn’t mind batting in front of Manny, nor should anybody.
.
Max ~ I didn’t read anything into your comment other than sarcasm, but I see what you write all the time. It’s part of your personality. That may be the difference in somebody taking what you said out of context. No worries (not that you are – lol!)

perumike ~ sounds great!!!!!

absolutely Dnelly! and he also posted another fantastic review!!

Acardona ~ It was a fabulous review too, not that they all haven’t been. He is just getting more humorous in them as well. I was literally laughing out loud when he was trying to convince people that thin crust is best – too funny!!

Dnel- ME TOO!! that was really funny! I’m going to the game saturday with a bunch of friends and i was thinking of checking that place out after the game! it looked so good!

I realized yesterday that I missed the “live chat” with Maddux! :-(

cards leading snakes 2-0 in the 4th.

perumike- sweet!! thanks for the info! keep us posted!

Snakes had 1st, 3rd, 1 out in bottom of 4th, and didn’t score. Still 2-0 Cards!

Still 2-0 in the 6th.

3-0 on a double by the pitcher! Second straight game the Cards get an RBI from their pitcher.

haha! yeah! just keeps getting better!

Bases loaded for snakes, Dunn at the plate, and Dave Duncan was just ejected…. This could turn around… Not looking good… Come on St. Lou!!

Freaking Cardinals!! Come on!! The damn D-Backs are trying to lose again!! QUIT HELPING THEM!!

Oh man. If the Cards blow this Im gonna strangle everyone in the Cardinals bullpen.

3-2 in the 8th, we still have hope that the Cards will hang on!

Perumike ~ thanks for the update. It’s going to be a rough 9th. At least we know the Rockies lost.

Hey folks–
.
I’ve not been able to post much of late. As I mentioned, I am in Denver until November, and to the extent that you follow anything other than the Dodgers, you may have seen some of the hub-bub here, in which I have been involved.
.
A rough stretch, but I was impressed that we mostly kept to the right philosophy in terms of players. I think we can win the division and the future continues to look bright.
.
I’ll try to chime in, from time-to-time, but I will still be busy for another couple of months.

Good to hear from you, leekfink. Are you involved in the political scene?

drew leadoff triple in 9th.

3-2 cards. 1 out now.

3-3 bottom 9th

game over 4-3!!!

Hey Leekfink ~ It’s great to hear from you. We will try to keep the Dodgers winning for you. All the best with whatever your endeavor is right now :)

Does anybody know when Sammy Saito is supposed to come back???

damnit cards.

Dang it Cards! Oh well, we’lll just keep our winning going!

Card bullpen was awful this past series.

Now we know we need to win tonight. gotta keep pace with the dfags

Hi all, here’s the lineup from “inside the dodgers”

Martin, C
Ethier, RF
Ramirez, LF
Blake, 3B
Loney, 1B
Kemp, CF
DeWitt 2B
Berroa, SS
Kuroda, P

RATS! The Cards are worthless! Anyone know the lineup? Oh, good day to everyone!!

Hahaha, thanks, Scott! You read my mind!

Are you kidding me Frank?

Article Says Ned Safe for Next Year

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/jon_heyman/09/03/heyman.dodgers/index.html?eref=T1

Interesting..says even if the Dodgers don’t make the playoffs…Ned is safe
BUT McCourt is MAD at all the bad deals.

Dnelly, have you ever heard this George Harrison song? Everyone knows about “Here Comes the Sun”, but while he was with Dark Horse records, he did one called “Here Comes the Moon”. First verse goes like this:

Everybody’s talking up a storm
Act like they don’t notice it
But here it is and here it comes . . .
Here comes the moon, the moon, the moon, the moon, the moon.

TruBlue44–Yep, I moved into politics. But still bleed Dodger Blue.

Can’t count on the Cards for crap. Well, actually I guess you can.

GO DODGERS
BEAT THE PADS

nsblues ~ Yes, I have heard of that song – LOL!!!!!!
.
leekfink ~ Explains why you write the way you do, and I mean that in a good way. I always like reading what you have to say.

leekfink ~ I thought you might involved in politics. This must be a very stressful and busy time for you, from now through November. Bleeding Dodger Blue is a good thing…..although, at times can be as exasperating as politics.

KEEP THE PRESSURE ON
GO DODGERS!!!!!

Good to see the Rockies lost keeping the pressure off us.

Good Evening PierreEW/Joepierre ~
.
GO DODGER BLUE ~ WE LOVE YOU!!!
.
dnelly, June Darlin’, Junie, Miss Debbie, Mrs. Nelson, nelle, nells, nelly, nellygirl ~ all ETHIERaholics :)
.
GO RUSSELL, ANDRE, MANNY, JAMES, MATT, CASEY, BLAKE, ANGEL, AND KURODA

Sigh I rather see Kemp batting clean up.

Thanks Russ!

M A R T I N>>>DRAWS FIRST BLOOD.

This Leblanc kid’s got a great changeup.

CRAP!

Not good.

So I see they really gave CC that no hitter so Congratualations hope you would be a Dodgers next year.

Gosh **** bard

Damn Dodgers killer 329/.419/.380/.799

Better put some wood of our own on the ball, Kuroda doesn’t look good tonight.

Come on Dewitt tied this up.

That’s what I’m talking about!
Thanks Blake!

That’s our boy D E W I T T

Holy **** I called that nice

Blake!!! And how about that Berroa!!! He’s been swinging a pretty good stick lately.

WOW! Berroa with a dinger?! Whodathunkit?

B E R R O A………AT LAST

Nomar and Pierre are hanging out with Kent and Jones thinking damn we make alot of cash not to play.

Berroa has more homerun in his short career in LA than Pierre lol.

Wow!!! Didn’t expect that!!! Great Job Blake and Angel!!!!!
.
Feeling better about this game now PierreEW?

LMAO!!! No kidding jungar!!!!

He’s like and dang now he is hitting triples? I’ll never play.

B L A K E doing all right.

I guess I need to pick up Dewitt in my keeper league. I hope Kent retired that 2nd/3rd bases eligiblity would be so nice to have.

Oh and come Ned is so fired! As soon as you talk about people in the press about NOT being fired is a great sign they will be.

5-3!! Great inning!! It’s sorta nervewracking though when I know AZ already won, it’s like if we win I’m like not that happy because we basically loose a day…and if we loose well then forgetaboutit…. I’m back on the meds. lol

LMAO!!! It’s amazing how well they play without those certain PVLs not in the game.

jungar ~ this time of the year, we all need our meds!! lol

I agree Nelly.

We’re ahead dnelly, better than being behind but I’m worried about Kuroda, tonight.

DNelly, they look so much more relaxed in the dugout. They’re finally having fun.

Kuroda looked a lot better there, maybe the 2 run lead relaxed him, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

Kuroda’s shown he doesn’t have his best stuff tonight. I just hope he’s got enough. It appears the usual suspects from the Pads giving this club their usual hard time.

bluecrewgirl ~ It really does seem to be a much different atmosphere around the dugout lately – thank goodness. Hopefully this carries into this weekend.

dnelly I’m hoping it carries on through October!

vl4ecc ~ I think Kuroda will be just good enough…..the Pads are already into their bullpen so, hopefully, we can score enough runs so Kuroda’s pitching won’t matter that much…..I’ve got my fingers crossed.

Which Scott will it be?

Oops, maybe he won’t be good enough!

OH Doctor …Not Proctor

I hope Proctor does well here. Guess it’s time to cross the fingers & toes.

Not the proctologist – oh no!!!

I was hoping for the other Scott.

oh no.lets cross our fingers..proctor is back

jj ~ Well, of course!!! I think if we get through this weekend, we have a really good chance of pulling this thing out.

Good thing he’s not a real doctor for the “confidence” he instills in us all, lol.

From one Scott to another.

LOL!!! I guess crossing our fingers didn’t help, and no I wouldn’t want him as my doctor ethier (either) – LOL!!

lol back to back Scott.

lol blue

I can’t say enough about how improved our infield defense has been with Berroa and Dewitt.

My goodness – who would’ve thought Berroa with defense and offense tonight – Wow!!!

GOOD SCOTT
A nice recovery by Berroa.
He’s a fine defenseman, even if he uses his shirt sometimes.
We need more runs.

I can’t believe Berroa carrer fpct is under .970. I think we let Nomar go and resigned Berroa for cheap.

Wow just let the kids bat too nice

We need some runs.

That looked like ball 4 to me.

bluecrewgirl ~ I’m so glad DeWitt is with us!!

Andre definitely had something to say about that call, too.

Go Elbert Go a nice 1 2 3 innings.

Me too, trueblue. I’ve liked Dewitt from day one.

I really like how DeWitt and Berroa are covering the infield for us, and with Matt in center, we have attained that strength up the middle that is so important.

Oh no lead off walk shoot.

I agree sparkleplenty, defense has been huge in recent games and bad infield defense killed us on the road trip.

Nice going Scotty.
Let’s go Cory.

Listening to the game while finishing up the drawing. It’s finished in the new post ( http://northstateblues.mlblogs.com )

Think I’m gonna grab a bite to eat and come back in a few, it’s hard to leave a close one like this.

GO DODGERS

That’s was a big out.

JUST AWESOME NSBLUES!!!
.
sparkleplentey ~ couldn’t agree with you more.

Awesome drawing, nsblues. You have a good eye. Have you taken any art courses or is this a natural gift?

Very nice drawing NSB.

atta W A D E to go.

Nice scetch of Beimel northstable.

Still hanging in there. I got a feeling a one run lead isn’t going to be enough. These pesty Pads aren’t going away quietly.
Need more runs!

Mighty Casey!!!!

That’s ok Manny don’t know why they scared of you lol.

atta W A D E to go.

Very Clever PierreEW – LOL!!

Right on Blake!

ALRIGHT CASEY BLAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What lowers B L A K E >>>RAISES the boom.

Northstate, another great drawing.

Who’d have thought we’d become a home run hitting team this late in the season. It’s fun to watch.

Nice Blake

Yep blue glad we have so power in the lineup now since Jones been a big dissapointment.

We have to stop Josh Bard.

oops so is *some”

Wow Wade that was fast.

Love a 1,2,3 inning!!!!

Coming down to a typical Dodger Game.

Thanks! I took an art class in community college once, but dropped out halfway through. I mostly just doodled in class, made crudely drawn comics in High School (Some making fun of Ted Turner, with one having him, inspired by “A League of Their Own”, designing new uniforms for the Braves consisting of skirts).

So far, so good, and it’s good seeing the team getting better, as opposed to the talk of the Angels peaking in August. They’re doing what they gotta do if they wanna play into the fall.
GO DODGERS

Everybody’s talking up a storm
Act like they don’t notice it
But here it is and here it comes . . .
Here comes the moon, the moon, the moon, the moon, the moon.

I love this song nsblues – LOL!!!! It’s perfect!!! Eric will like this one too, as will others :)

I have a bad feeling Sweeney would come up.

C’mon, Brox, bring us a 1-2-3 inning.

Damn I knew it too lol

It all depends on you, J O N.

I wonder where Young at or even Jones?

Here’s Johnny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK Johnny! Shut them down!

I just saw on TV that if we act fast we can buy 2009 Dodger tickets at 2008 prices. Thanks Frank. How about making the playoffs before trying to backdoor us.

Let’s go BIG JON

What does Johnny say?

What does Big Bad John say?

AWESOME!!! Five in a row!

Fu-Q, yall!!!

FU Q Y’all

Nice job seesky!!!!

jungar, keepin it real, heheh. All that commercial did was make me dread the 2009 rate of inflation. It seems like the Pavillions and the Top Deck were $6 for over a decade, now you’re lucky if you can grab snacks for that.

On a lighter note, GREAT WIN DODGERS! Cue up the Randy Neuman!

That interview with Angel Berroa was so funny. Especially what he said about JP – LOL all over the place . . . .

J O N A T H A N
We’re 70-70 after 140.

Nelly, a real doubleheader.LOL!!!

What did Berroa say about JP?
I’ll read it later.

Another day and another write up by our good friend so hopefully is not short again lol.

Manny was translating for Angel. The interviewer asked how Angel felt playing in front of the new power-hitting left fielder. Angel said (not direct quote), “Oh, yeah, Juan Pierre!”

After he said that, he just cracked up laughing and Manny joined him. It really was funny.

Nelly, George was a great songwriter.

Most of the time those on field interviews after the game are lame but that one with Manny and Angel was the best one yet. They really pulled a fast one on the interviewer. Manny was translating but Angel understands and speaks English but no one knew it. Priceless!

Keep it rolling boys! I hope they squash the snakes with a sweep, take the lead in the NL west outright this weekend, and finish strong into October.

GO DODGERS!!!

Josh Suisan is going to interview Andre again. I am listening to the radio postgame show.

Talk to you all later – gotta get a good night’s sleep. Job interview early tomorrow morning . . .

Good Luck sparkleplenty, and good night!!!

Well gang, does it all come down to the next three games? It should be fun.

Andre told Josh he wants Manny to stay a Dodger for a long time.

I’ll take 2 of 3 on the road any day. Especially with their top 3 guys going this weekend. Haran and Webb have been knocked around pretty good in each of their last two starts. Let’s hope their bad luck continues.

The Marlins are one of the better teams in the NL east, and they started the game with 600 spectators, and it ended with @ 11,000 said total.

Good luck on your interview sparkleplenty!

DNelly, thanks for the info on the interview. I wonder why KABC doesn’t have Dodger Talk on online. There’s some stupid talk show on instead. KABC doesnt’ come in the good on the radio, except in my car.

My bad. We’re playing at home. 2 of 3 is still good.

Alright, gotta hit the books. great win, and now we control our own fate. BEAT THE SNAKES

Nelly–could anything be more depressing than going to a baseball game in Joe Robbie Stadium? Their new stadium can’t come soon enough.

Good Evening Ward Dear……

Good night, everybody. Having fought the nickname gremlins sucessfully, I hope I still have the same nickname tomorrow.

bluecrewgirl ~ Andre also told Josh, he will gladly keep batting in front of Manny, and that he has learned a ton from him. He said it has completely changed his mindset and how he approaches the plate. Andre obviousley is paying attention. Manny is being a true PVL (proven veteran leader) – just awesome :)

Good evening June Darlin’! Being a fan of the Dodgers may be a lot of things, but never boring, eh?

No kidding!! – it’s definitely not boring – who would’ve thought Angel Berroa would be playing this way. I guess the days of Aw Hell are gone for now anyway.

DNelly, that’s great to hear. Andre has really been in a zone since he started batting in front of Manny.

Goodnight everyone. Can’t wait for the series with the
D-Backs. Should be awesome.

Ward Dear ~ once you are done with the Dodger Trivia (nice going BTW), you need to do the neverending movie trivia. I think I have answered at least 5 questions about the “Lord of the Rings”, and I just started. I almost sent a request to you on one, but I decided to guess and got the question right. However, I got kicked off earlier because I guess they are doing maintenance on the sight.

Good Night bluecrewgirl – Have a great day tomorrow!!!

Holy crap that just show that 600 crowds. Man it look weird.

Hi bluecrewGIRL!

Goodnight bluecrewGIRL!

I’m done with the Dodger trivia. It seems they do actually run out of questions! Neverending movie trivia? Not sure I like the sound of THAT! LOL!! Is that on facebook, too?

ndeschenes ~ Wow!! 5 in a row!! Unbelieveable and amazing we are still in this. Let’s hope we hear from you a couple times over the weekend. I think hoping for a sweep might be setting the bar too high with the dbacks, so I will gladly except 2 out of 3. It will be a real good feeling if we do. Have a wonderful evening and a spectacular tomorrow :)

Great win and sweep! Time to get the Snakes! I just got a call from my brother and he is giving me field level tickets for Saturday’s game! I hope to see Webb get knocked around!

Yes sir!! LOL!! It is a lot of fun. I have already had to answer questions about every movie we have talked about on ITD. You are a movie buff so you would enjoy it. Then again, you would probably like the NASCAR one too. I certainly don’t know enough history on that. I remember a lot of driving families (Allisons, Pettys, etc), but not enough to get through it with much success.
.
So your final score is 11,200? – that’s fantastic!! Maybe you should start submitting questions instead now :)

That’s great perumike!!! Have fun!!!

Well Pierre is a left fielder, Angel probably didn’t get the power part. LOL
When I was in Philadelphia last week Berroa hit a tremendous clouth over the left field stands in BP that amazed me.
I was wondering if JP ever hit one in BP in L.A.
I was told by- fansince53 -that he never saw him hit one.

Great stuff PierreEW!! So we are only 4 behind last year right now, but we are in 2nd place, which is better than last year being in 3rd.

Just the title alone is worth the look. Like we didn’t do that after the first few weeks of the season.

Sorry max, I am a little sensitive. I let my feelings get the better of me. When I used to post last year before I ran away with my tail between my legs, I remember you were always so funny. Please forgive me. There are only 9 games left and I’ve been feeling a little BLUE. I paid for post season tickets however. Go Dodgers. I have great hopes that I will use them. The game today was another awesome one. Kuroda was a bit shaky but as I was commenting to my friend about run support, there came the home runs. And those two by the unlikely two: Blakie and Berroa. Manny might have had a couple too but the pads were too cowardly to pitch to him. The crowd again was electirfied by the excitement. I can’t wait until Friday. We will win again. I too worry about Russell. He seemed to be huffing and puffing to third base. I think his back is bothering him. Andre is still fresh because, lo and behold, he had to sit out so many games. Maybe it’s working out for the better. And Manny, being Manny. I laughed so hard when my friend told me he had tossed a big wad of bubble gum into the bullpen. There it sat the whole game. When they showed him running the bases after hitting that homerun, he was chewing a big wad of gum. I love Manny, even more after I got his autograph on that baseball. I heard that I may have one of the few that he has signed. : ) Anyway, again, apologies Max. Good night or good morning ITD.

Dnelly, I have the Dodger poster which was a stadium giveaway. I’d love to send it to you for your class. It would look perfect on your bulletin board. Just send me your address or even your school address so I can send it to you. Just email me. I’ll have to remember to collect Dodger stuff for your children since I am there at the stadium so much. I think they would like that.

Bye Jones see you next year. Jones hopefully you can come back strong next year for us.

Season likely over for Dodgers OF Jones

Buzz Up

LOS ANGELES (TICKER) —Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Andruw Jones’ injured left knee will likely keep him out for the remainder of the season.

Jones told the Los Angeles Times that his season is “basically over,” in an article printed Thursday.

Jones, who is batting .161 with three home runs and 14 RBI this season, went on the 15-day disabled list August 12 with patella tendinitis his left knee and was activated Monday when teams were allowed to expand their active rosters to 40 players. However, he doesn’t expect to play the rest of the campaign after injuring his surgically repaired knee during a rehab stint with Class AAA Las Vegas.

“If the team needed me and I was the only one who could be out there, I would wrap it up and play,” Jones told the Times. “In this situation, we have other guys who have been getting the job done. I’ll try not to be in their way.”

The 31-year-old, who signed a two-year, $36.2 million contract with the Dodgers in the offseason, has scaled back his workouts due to swelling in the knee. Jones likely wouldn’t break into the lineup even if healthy with Manny Ramirez, Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier locking down the outfield positions.

Good Morning ITD writers and readers!!!!!
Another great win last night by the Dodgers. Let’s hope this day off doesn’t kill any momentum like it did last time. Hopefully this is a nice restful day for the team, and they will be ready to come into this weekend ready to take sole possession of first place.
.
xoxrussell ~ Thank you soooo much!! I will get you that information sometime today.

Good Morning dnelly ~ Have as great day at school. I see your Redskins are playing tonight. Hope they win for you.

Good Morning trublue ~ It will be great since there is no Dodger game on. No conflicting games. I have a few players on my fantasy teams. So, we shall see. I actually switched quarterbacks for this weekend already. I have Derek Anderson (Browns) and Phillip Rivers (Chargers). Anderson is my starter in one league and Rivers in the other, but the Browns are playing the Cowboys. I figure there is an better chance for the Chargers to play well against the Panthers (sorry babyblu), then the Browns to play well against the Cowboys. So, I have Rivers starting for both teams this weekend. Plus, I have Chargers Defense and Chris Chambers on one team, and Antonio Gates on the other. So, I have quite a few Chargers represented on both teams (which is my west coast team), and I have a few Redskins on both teams too (Cooley, Portis, Suishan, Randle El).

dnelly ~ good luck on your fantasy league….is your brother doing it again this year? You two can fight it out and show him that us gals know how to pick the winners! lol

Fire Ned
Fire the guy who hired Ned

trublue ~ I am assuming, He is big time! Has drafting party and everything. He’s in charge of a league like somebody else I know….
.
Good Morning Ward Dear!!! How are you doing this morning?

dodgereric ~ Just said on ESPN that Ned’s job may be in jeopary, so, maybe you’ll get your wish!

Dnelly ~ You can still beat him. I have faith in you!

That’s good news!!

Not so good. They also said they probably wouldn’t sign Manny……BIG MISTAKE!!!!

Good morning, June Darlin’! Good morning, TruLumpy!

I’m well rested. I fell asleep last night doing that movie trivia. I don’t know whether to thank you or curse you for introducing me to that! LMAO!!!

We had back-to-school night last night and tonight we go back for a parents & players meeting for the hockey program. Nothing but fun! My wife keeps telling me that we’ll miss all this stuff when the kids are gone. :-)

I think I finally got all of my fantasy football issues taken care of. There were several people who couldn’t get logged in properly to change their players around. I think we’re good to go now though finally.

Mind if we talk a little Dodger baseball? :-) Have a look at this statement:
“The long ball by Berroa, who has started in place of a fatigued Nomar Garciaparra for the last five games, was what brought the crowd of 48,882 to their feet.”

Fatigued? Holy jumpin’ jeemanoly!! Fifteen games in 18 days! He had a nice little two week vacation before that stretch started. Lou Gehrig he ain’t. Actually, my guess is that Ginger snapped (like that?) again and they’re just not admitting it. Here’s the link to the whole article:
http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-dodgers4-2008sep04,0,7918240.story

LMAO!!!! That’s funny Ward Dear!! “Ginger Snapped” LMAO!!!
.
As far as the trivia – you know you love it!!! LMAO!! 10 questions of “Lord of the Rings” and counting. It is definitely the popular topic among the people asking the questions.
.
Have a fabulous day!!!! Time for school!!!!

Nice article dodgereric. I’m actually glad to see Nomar fatigued…..and Jeff out of the lineup as well. The players are really enjoying themselves. Except for Manny, we do have kids playing a kids game!
TruLumpy

it should be “about” not “of” :)

Hi. I’m dodgereric and I’m a triviaholic……….

Hi. I’m TruBlue and I’m a crossword puzzle; cryptogram; sudoku; Ebay aholic.

LMAO!!!! Can I claim all of the above….. and add Andre Ethier, Dodger Baseball, and fantasy football and baseball – LMAO (in my head of course!!).

At the risk of sounding ignorant as well as adding to my list of addictions, what’s sudoku?

number puzzle – the most addictive puzzle there is IMO – LOL!!!!

I am not so much an Ebay addict as I am an auction addict, just for clarification :)

It must be hereditary! lol Can’t pass on a good deal. Love waiting until the last minute and outbidding someone on a totally stupid item…..but, hey, I got it!

trublue ~ I don’t necessarily consider a $500 jersey a good deal, but that was more of a matter of a great charity (Think Cure!) and a fabulous ball player (Andre Ethier) – LOL!! :)

Trublue ~ I don’t consider buying a $500 jersey a bargain, but it was for a good cause (Think Cure!) and a fabulous ball player (Andre Ethier) – LOL!!! :)

sorry for the double post :) It acted like it didn’t post the first time – hmmmmmm!!!

Not sign Manny? Big mistake. He is a unifying force. I can see it on the field and in the dugout. So he commands a huge salary. He is so worth it. Next year the Dodgers will be able to conquer the world….all the kids matured, Babies Clayton, Elbert and MacDonald. Plus Manny to help them along. I don’t think I’m exaggerating. I have been to all the home games and I have seen a difference. That and his popularity with the fans make every game electric. : )

dodgereric ~ Just said on ESPN that Ned’s job may be in jeopary, so, maybe you’ll get your wish!

Dnelly ~ You can still beat him. I have faith in you!

I posted something about that yesterday and they said his job wasn’t in jeopardy so someone better make up there mind.

You really think we can outbidded the Yankees? I remember Manny wanted to stick it to the Red Sox.

xoxorussell ~ I think not signing Manny would be a big mistake also. They just reported it had to do with money issues. I think he draws enough to make up the salary they’d have to pay him. Besides, all the “kids” love having him around…..he has made them better hitters.

sorry about the extra “o” xox

I wish Frank would understand that if we signed Manny, there would be no money issues for a while. The fans will come, the fans will spend, Frank McCourt will be rolling about in money like a greased pig in mud. He will be using money to light his cigars, which would be made of tobacco ROLLED IN MONEY!!!!

It would be monumentally ridiculous for Frank not to shell out the cash for one of Baseball’s best hitters (not only today, but EVER, and Mr. Beantown should KNOW THIS!) after plunking down millions on injured benchwarmers. Sell another parking lot or two, Sell some east coast real estate. Sell anything but naming rights to the stadium.

How bout seeing this driving into the stadium-“Welcome to Dodger Stadium! Park at the Farmer John Parking Lot”. Shocking, yes, but if it means having Manny for another 2-3 years, why not? We let Jeff Kent ride out his retirement in blue, why not ONE OF THE GREATEST HITTERS IN HISTORY?!!! L.A. loves a star, and they don’t get much bigger than Manny!

“BOO HOO HOO, Ned spent all my money! Send Carlos Santana away, I don’t have the money for compensation!” Well, you know what, Frank, you bought the Los Angeles Dodgers, the current incarnation of the famed Brooklyn Base Ball Club, a big market team in a big market city. If you wanted to cry about money, maybe you should’ve bought the Washington Nextpos or the Marlins or some other team where expecations are low and fan turnout is lower.

In reality, it will be tough to keep the Man from Washington Heights away from his hometown, he wants to stick it to the Red Sox like Rick “Wild Thing” Vaughn wanted to stick it to Cleveland when he thought he was cut. But c’mon Frank, if ever there was a time to spend money, to invest in the team, THIS IS IT.

It’d be nice to have C.C., but with Bills and Kershaw up in L.A., and Elbert and our other pitching prospects coming up, our pitching can be fine for years to come without a massive gamble that has the threat to turn into Kevin Brown, Jason Schmidt, Barry Zito, etc.

Pitching is a gamble, but we have a Historically Great ballplayer in our grasp right now, and the fans love him. SCREW THE MARATHON, PAY THE MANNY-THON!!!

Nomar has been fatigued since 2003.

I don’t think Brown should be in the same groups as those 2.

Dang Pedroia almost came close to hitting for the cycle last night

nsblues ~ I totally agree with you about signing Manny! To me, it’s a no-brainer. PLEASE FRANK, SIGN MANNY !!!

If Lowe is on we’ll need Berroa at short again tonight.

P.S. sign Manny. How about now.

Since I don’t have to type PLAY ANDRE ETHIER for now:
.
SIGN MANNY!!!!! SIGN MANNY!!!!! SIGN MANNY!!!!! SIGN MANNY!!!!! SIGN MANNY!!!!! SIGN MANNY!!!!! SIGN MANNY!!!!! SIGN MANNY!!!!! SIGN MANNY!!!!! SIGN MANNY!!!!! SIGN MANNY…. repeat the pattern….

With the money that should be coming off the books this year and next, combined with the revenue from all the Manny Merchandising that’s going on, we shouldn’t have to choose between CC and Manny.

I agree wholeheartedly with north and whoever else has mentioned the Bost… I’m sorry, the LA Marathon purchase. Knock it off, Frank. Would you please concentrate on spending your nickels on the product that’s on the diamond?

Why expect much of anything out of Frank? Afterall, he’s the one that brought us JoJo and Ned. Obviously there’s not much thought process going on between the ears there.

If he hasn’t got the money for Manny, that means he hasn’t got the money for CC either. But take heart, we still have Andruw, JP and Schmidt next year, and maybe we can re-acquire Manny at the trade deadline if NY is willing to pay all his salary…

By count, in 2009 Frank saves $ 50.425 million:

Furcal – $13 mil
Nomore- $8.5
Kent – $9
Lowe – $10
Penny – $8.5 (if option not picked up)
Bennett – $825 thousand
Sweeney – $600 thousand

It also means this line-up:
.
Pierre or Kemp
Ethier
Martin
Andruw or Kemp
Loney
DeWitt
DY
Hu
.
Exhilarating isn’t it? Now you see why they’re going for it this year. After this year, we may not see winning baseball until 2011.

Well, good afternoon enchanted……
You always like to bring us back down to earth, don’t you? LOL!!!!!

Now if that don’t beat all. Here we take the good time and trouble to run off every single PVL on the team, and for what? So we can live with an owner that’s dumber than any other. I AM depressed.

LMAO!!!! I don’t know why I am laughing. This is very, very sad that even if the Dodgers pull this off this year (still remains to be seen), we are still screwed for 2-3 years because of all these damn PVLs. What a tragedy this will be :)

Excuse me, Mr. Eric, sir, but I sure do hate to see you like this. What if me and the boys was to shoot that owner dead? Would that pep you up some?

Frank: What are you doing?
DodgerFan: I’m leaving you, my dear. All you need now is a divorce and your dreams of Boston can come true.
Frank: Oh, no! No, you’re wrong, terribly wrong! I don’t want a divorce. Oh DodgerFan, but I knew tonight, when I… when I knew I loved you, I ran home to tell you, oh darling, darling!
DodgerFan: Please don’t go on with this, Leave us some dignity to remember out of our marriage. Spare us this last.
Frank: This last? Oh DodgerFan, do listen to me, I must have loved you for years, only I was such a stupid fool, I didn’t know it. Please believe me, you must care! Jamie said you did.
DodgerFan: I believe you. What about the Boston?
Frank: I… I never really loved Boston.
DodgerFan: You certainly gave a good imitation of it, up till this morning. No Frank, I tried everything. If you’d only met me half way, even when I came back from Barstow.
Frank: I was so glad to see you. I was, DodgerFan, but you were so nasty.
DodgerFan: And then when you were sick, it was all my fault… I hoped against hope that you’d call for me, but you didn’t.
Frank: I wanted you. I wanted you desperately but I didn’t think you wanted me.
DodgerFan: It seems we’ve been at cross purposes, doesn’t it? But it’s no use now. As long as there was Manny, there was a chance that we might be happy. I liked to think that Manny was you, a little boy again, before you bought the Dodgers, and poverty had done things to you. He was so like you, and I could cheer for him, as I wanted to cheer for you. But when he went, he took everything.
Frank: Oh, DodgerFan, DodgerFan please don’t say that. I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry for everything.
DodgerFan: My darling, you’re such an idiot. You think that by saying, “I’m sorry,” all the past can be corrected. Here, take my handkerchief. Never, at any crisis of your life, have I known you to have a handkerchief.
Frank: DodgerFan! DodgerFan, where are you going?
DodgerFan: I’m going back to NASCAR, back where I belong.
Frank: Please, please take me with you!
DodgerFan: No, I’m through with everything here. I want peace. I want to see if somewhere there isn’t something left in life of charm and grace. Do you know what I’m talking about?
Frank: No! I only know that I love you.
DodgerFan: That’s your misfortune.
[DodgerFan turns to walk down the stairs]
Frank: Oh, DodgerFan!
[Frank watches DodgerFan walk to the door]
Frank: DodgerFan!
[runs down the stairs after DodgerFan]
Frank: DodgerFan, DodgerFan!
[catches him as he's walking out the front door]
Frank: DodgerFan… if you go, where shall I go, what shall I do?
DodgerFan: Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.

If you shoot the owner, you still have the PVLs – what can be done about them? Then, there is Joe too…… who plays the PVLs – hmmmm – decisions, decisions……..

Oh fiddle-dee-dee.

It’s too bad the Boston garbage landed in LA, and I’m not talking about Manny. I personally don’t expect Frank to do anything that makes good sense for the team, so I’m not surprised that he’ll keep Ned no matter what. Presumably Frank will hold onto the purse strings, so it doesn’t much matter who the GM is going to be. Maybe Manny will prove the exception, but otherwise I’m not looking for any big contracts to be signed in the off-season. Just don’t re-sign Kent, or Nomar, or especially Sweeney.

Well, that might help, e! (A little late, LOL!)

Eric ~ That was brilliant :)

As God is my witness, as God is my witness they’re not going to lick me. I’m going to live through this and when it’s all over, I’ll never be hungry for a World Series victory again. No, nor any of my folk. If I have to lie, steal, cheat or kill. As God is my witness, I’ll never be hungry again.

See June Darlin’…….this is the kind of crap that happens when I get hooked on late night trivia………..

enchanted ~ Where the hell have you been? You had us all worried!

dodgereric ~ Did you forward your wonderful piece to McCourt?

messagebear ~ I think Kent will definitely be gone, if what he says is true. As for Sweeney, why the heck is he STILL HERE! Nomar should just retire and give his weary bones time to rest.

LMAO!!!! I’m sorry, but you like it and you know it – ha! See, now you can change songs and movie scripts LOL!!!

You’re right, I do love it so……….

I sent it to the Times letter section. There’s a better chance of Andruw earning his paycheck than there is the Times printing that, but it made me feel better.

Wow the Pirates used 5 PH’s in a rows. I don’t even think I ever seen that happen.

Pittsburgh Inning Summary

– C. Dickerson in left field
– F. Cordero relieved N. Masset
– C. Patterson in center field
– N. Morgan hit for A. LaRoche
– N. Morgan struck out swinging
– A. LaRoche hit for T.J. Beam
– A. LaRoche grounded out to first
– F. Sanchez hit for L. Cruz
– F. Sanchez walked
– R. Doumit hit for R. Chavez

That’s great. i bet they’ll post it for the whole world to see. Well, at least Dodger Nation (sounds better than Raiders Nation)

Sweeney is making 600 thousand? I thought it was more than that.

Wow did anyone see Culpepper retired and he’s only 31 years old. He been hit with injuries the past 3 years.

At the risk of being controversial, here’s a couple questions to address on a slow off day.
.
1. What in the world was Andre thinking when he conceived a child in January? Doesn’t he know he should be doing this sort of thing in March, so he can become a father in the off-season?
2. Why doesn’t Maggie sign up for a Caesarean section, so the blessed event can be scheduled for an off-day, like today? Then Andre could play the night before, hop a jet to Phoenix, witness the event, hop back on a jet, and be ready to play the following day.
.
I mean, we’re talking about a guy who over the last ten games is .372/.426/.744/1.170
.
We’re in a pennant race! Get with the program, Andre.
.
[ This is sure to stir up a few Ethieraholics ]

LMAO, crash!!! As Gomer might say, “Selfish, selfish, selfish!” LOL!!!

LOL!! Crash ~ oh my!! However, I love the stats ~ That SLG and OPS are fantastic!!!

Look at that, crash! Ran right over the gender slam to focus on the glossy stats!!! LOL!!

While you’re at it, why doesn’t Andre just get his darlin’ on a plane and have the baby in the trainer’s room?

Eric – Are you kidding? Look at who Maggie married! I think she’s smart enough to stay way clear of Stan Conte.

dnelly – You missed my point. How can we afford to be missing Andre for a few games this month when he’s been performing like that? Who would take his place and put up numbers like that? JP? (Apparently Berroa thinks JP is a slugger). Jones? Repko? The only possible answer is DY, but I don’t know that he’s ready.

Crash ~ I am the last person who wants to see Andre out of the lineup. I have fought too hard with some people on this board who thought he should be traded for Matt Holliday, Jason Bay, etc, not to mention some who really did feel Pierre was better. I totally understand your point, however, from my perspective, maybe there wasn’t a choice in timing or circumstances.

It gets cold in Arizona in January…………….

tomorrow night

LOL. This must be a really slow day to discuss Andre’s new arrival. I know the team has a day off so, what are we planning for tonight?

Repko will hold his own replacing Andre. Equal, if not better defense, more speed, but not nearly the stick…at least not nowadays!!!!

Blame it on Ned Crash.

It was by having Pierre around, Andre became more competitive. Hence the child.

Eric, wow, a shoutout for my hometown (Barstow)! Coolness… I never liked that Scarlett anyway, heh. But it would take A LOT for me to turncoat the Dodgers.

1.) Barry Bonds in a Dodgers uniform.
2.) Change in the Dodgers uniform (block letters instead of script)
3.) Destruction of Dodger Stadium/ naming rights sold (either/or)
4.) Fire sales

List can be amended at any time. But it’s too fun being a Dodgers fan in NorCal. Take today, me getting dirty looks from half of Chico for my Dodgers jersey and Dodgers hat. It’s the small things in life, you know…

LOL!!! That’s funny Ward Dear…..
.
Trublue ~ trivia? LOL!!!!!
.
Kahli ~ I am glad to see you are surviving your first week of school. How is it going? I think Repko will do fine in Andre’s absence, but I’m sure a lot will depend on if JP can play by then or not. My guess is that he will start, and they might bring Repko in for late innings for defense. Then you have DY too. I guess we can officially scratch Andruw off the list (not like we haven’t already – lol!!)

The bummer about school is not staying up ’til 2 am when I did most of my blogging! Oh well, the Dodgers look very ordinary at 3PM as opposed to midnight! Was VERY surprised how the Pods laid down and died this week for us. Didn’t realize they were fielding a AAA team…still, I fear retribution with six games remaining against them. UCLA started great and Cowboys are ready to roll (hey, I’ve been a fan since the Ice Bowl of ’67 so I’m not a Band Wagon grunt…!?!?!?)

nsblues ~ I where Dodger blue every day when I get home, whether a jersey or shirt, and if it’s a day game, then I wear the color Dodger blue to school. Plus, my lanyard that has my school keys attached is a Dodger lanyard. I know the feeling of wanting to show off Dodger blue in Nor-Cal. On top of that our custodian is a gnats fan so he has to clean my room every morning with my Dodger stuff everywhere. It makes for interesting conversations when I am here with him at 7 in the morning.

Kahli ~ Oh no!! Not another Cowboys fan….. Go Redskins!!!! My season starts tonight, hopefully with an upset. We are expected to lose, but I remain hopeful :)

Heh Dnelly, I hear that! I’m selective about when I wear my blue, though. Like I don’t wear any LA stuff out at night (Blue is the wrong color here, and not just in the baseball sense). I’ll wear my Brooklyn hat any time of day or night, but anything with Dodgers or Los Angeles I wear in daytime or at Chico, where half the students are from SoCal anyway.

The younger people are dumb enough to think that the Brooklyn hat is a Boston hat, but the older folks still give me dirty looks for it. I’m amazed the Giants fans don’t really embrace their NY history the way Dodger fans embrace their Brooklyn history. Especially since, you know, the Giants trophy case has collected 50-some-odd years of dust.

That “black Mets hat” was the hat Willie Mays made The Catch in, you know. They embrace the Catch part of it just fine, they just don’t wear the hats. I’ve NEVER seen a Giants fan wear a NY Giants hat since moving up here 7 years ago.

Since there is no game to digest today, I propose this question: Putting our emotions aside and trying to be as objective as possible, how much would you be willing to pay Manny (and/or for how long). Or, to look at the question another way, what do think Manny would accept? Would you get into a bidding war with the Yankees? Are you concerened at all about what could happen if you do sign him to a big fat contract and he becomes a problem? Don’t get me wrong, I love the guy, or at least the Manny we have seen. He can hit and he is a lot of fun. Just remember you only have so much money and you already have a guy on your payroll who is making around 18 mil who just told a reporter he is writing off this season ( which came at no surprise). And as you are thinking about this you also have to make some decisions on a highly talented but often injured shortstop. I don’t want to hear it was mistake to sign Jones; we all know that now. My point in bringing him up is what he earns.

By the way, I like the comments above about how the Dodgers need to think of themselves in terms of their market. Still, how much would be too much for Manny?

lbirken ~ I think it was dodgereric who thought we could pay Manny big bucks for a one year deal….then if it didn’t work out you could say goodbye. Even with Boras as his agent, Eric thought, and I agree, he’d go for it if the price was right. What do you think?

Good Afternoon ITD and Ethieraholics…Dnelly how are you, I see you visiting. How is everyone doing today? Are we feeling blue? Yup I am kinda sad that there is no game on today. But I am ALWAYS BLUE….CAUSE FEELING BLUE IS GREAT!
I read Ethier’s blog: DINING WITH DRE….and it was ETHIERriffic. And yes I am happy that on all sports channels and sports news Ethier is mentioned. He is getting the credit he deserves.

Rose – Ethieraholic

Ideally I would love to sign Manny for a one year deal for around 20 mil but I doubt he would accept that if he had a longer term deal somewhere else. I might even pay him a bit more if the money is available and hope he would play with the same passion as he is now. I am not sure that will happen. I don’t think I would sign him to a 4 year deal unless the subsequant years had a reasonable buy out clause.

IBIRKEN I think that Manny have motivated a lot of the players to play their best. It seems that everyone have improved with him on team. Now who knows if that is really the reason why they are doing better. So if Manny plays with the Dodgers next year it would be great, but if he doesn’t than I believe that the team that we have is also great and can still win without him. But Manny have also motivated a lot of Dodger fans, so yes more people have attended to see the games, and we have gotten a lot of media attention cause of him. So if Manny keeps playing great….if he keeps playing like “Manny” then bring him on and pay him the big bucks. But I just hope that he doesn’t start relaxing and slacking off once he signs the contract and gets the big bucks. Please keep in mind that this is coming from a GIRL that doesn’t know much about the behind-the-scenes-in-the-major-leagues!

lbirken ~ If Frank really cares about how the fans feel, he will sign Manny. The revenue he generates should show McCourt how much value he has. I agree with the buy out clause. It’s good business. But then again, we know, more often than not, he doesn’t always do the right thing.

birk – Manny had two [club] option years at $20 mil per, so $20/1 yr wouldn’t get it done. An AL club has a built-in advantage because of the DH. When he can’t cut it in the OF anymore, they simply switch him to DH and they still get their money’s worth unless he totally tanks.

If he’d sign, I’d do it like they did with Andruw, 2 years at an inflated price – $50-55 mil. Beyond that you’re looking at Gonzo type defense or worse in the outfield (if you’re not already) and nowhere to hide him when he just can’t cut it. I think you’re also looking at him losing 1 in every 8 to 10 ABs because of defensive replacement late in games, so you’re actually only getting 90% of Manny.

I suspect the Yanks will offer at least 3 years/$70-75 range.

Good afternoon, ITD. Regarding Manny, I’ll pose the question another way: What do we do to fill the gaping offensive hole left if we don’t sign Manny? Hope that Jones regains his stroke? Even if (a big “if”) he even approaches his past numbers, he’s still no Manny. Some of our current players could step up their current numbers a notch or two but I’m not yet convinced that Kemp, Ethier, Martin, etc. are capable of putting up 30-40 taters, 100-120 ribbies, and hit .300 every year like Manny can. We have no power prospects in the minors less than a year or two away. I’m not sure what other potential power bats will hit the free agent market this year but they will probably cost as much or more and we won’t get as much bang for the buck. If Frank’s pleading poverty, he can point the finger at the Nedster for his botched free agent signings. Break open your piggy bank, Frank. It’ll hurt so good!!!

seeskybout ~ I’m with you! I figure if George Steinbrener can buy a winning team, why can’t we?! Money in this case, will buy happiness.

eric– Loved your Scarlett O’Hara parody. LMAO!!!!

TruBlue– We all know the Dodger history of free agent signings, even before Ned. Normally, I’m not a big fan of them but, in this case, he puts up the numbers and, contrary to a lot of what you hear, he’s good in the clubhouse. He would definitely be worth it.

you know the unusual walk Eithier got in Philadelphia, the same thing happened to a Angels rookie except that he struck out
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080904&content_id=3419146&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb

Seesky, you made a good point about what if we don’t sign Manny but at the same time, how much is too much? Is there a limit to what you would pay and for how long? Would you pay him what enchanteds has suggested? I don’t think I would.

The only reason Manny is a Dodger is because Jones was so bad for so long and it took management too long to figure it out. In a way I can understand; everyone hoped Jones would snap out of it. There is no doubt in my mind if Jones had exactly the same numbers this year with the Dodgers as he had last year the Dodgers would have won a bunch more games. In some ways his failure and the slow reaction to it hurt the Dodgers more than Furcal’s absence.

If the Dodgers do resign Manny, something has to be done about the outfield logjam. Kemp still has a huge upside and needs to play everyday while Ethier has impressed me enough to believe he should play most of the time as well. That leaves Jones and Pierre with no place to play. If I were GM, I might try to find any team willing to take JP for just about anything I could get even if it means eating his salary. I think JP does bring something to the game but not at the expense of taking at bats away from someone else on a regular basis as many have said. Maybe the Dodgers could get some low level prospects. I think JP has more of an upside to some team than Jones does because at least with JP you know what you are going to get. In Jones case I let him come to spring training with the understanding that he show up in great shape and if he cannot perform he is gone even if it means eating his salary as well. Or you can reverse this by trying to get rid of Jones at any price and keep Pierre and use him the way he is used now. He would not be happy so there could be that issue.

Then what about Furcal…. Say, being GM is not so easy.

I would rather have Jones i still have faith in him……of course for next season

We should re-sign Manny but we probably won’t. You can thank Ned Colletti for that. Hell if Ned Colletti didn’t sign Andruw Jones, Juan Pierre and Jason Schmidt we could re-sign Manny and make a legit run at CC Sabathia. But that’s not going to happen all because of Ned. If he is around next year It will be hard for me to be supportive of this organization next year. I will however still be supporting the players. It’s kinda like supporting the troops but not the President or the Congress. The organization is horribly ran and all the fingers point to Frank. Bad Owner hires a bad Gm who hires bad players. Think of where we’d be if it wasn’t for Dan Evans or Logan White. Evans doesn’t even work for the Dodgers anymore but he’s done more to help this team then Ned has.

Ned has hurt the team so much in his brief tenure that it’s going to take at least 3 more years to even start to fix it. Jones and Schimidt will be gone after next season but Slappy will still be around for 2 more. The fact is we’re screwed. These three aren’t going anywhere. We could DFA them all and get them off of the team and let useful players play but we are still going to have to pay them and we are still going to be hurt by them even if they aren’t on the team. It would be nice to trade Pierre but that’s NOT going to happen. Him being relegated to the bench this season killed any trade value he had. We are stuck with a 9 million dollar a year pinch runner.

The bad contracts Ned has brought to this team have limited us on the field and in the free agent market for last season, this season, next season and the two seasons after. We aren’t going to improve because we can’t afford to improve. Even if Ned Colletti is fired this offseason his moves will continue to hurt us and will continue to limit whatever GM comes after him until all the crap he’s brought to this team is gone.

I am for a Manny signing. I am just worried about 1) How long of a contract? I would want a 2 year max and 2) What about JP and Andruw? This is just me hoping those two are the odd men out from now on…. Also, couldn’t this be dependent on how this season finishes out? I think enchanted mentioned it this morning, but what if the Dodgers actually manage to get it done this year – in Frank’s head, he got his championship, and why not let Manny go. He figures the fans got their championship, they can now wait another 20 years. I thought about that a great deal today – he was brought here to help win a championship this year, so if he does that, then what?

I disagree Max. I think you can trade JP, but they’re going to have to eat at least 2/3 to 3/4 of his remaining contract. I think some team in need of speed would take a chance on him for $2-3 mil a year. The D’s wouldn’t get much for him – maybe a middle prospect or two, but that’s a net savings of $6-9 mil over three years. Plus JPs more valuable to the D’s playing for someone else.

Andruw is a total write-off. Unless his knee rehabs fully, he’s relegated to 1B. I personally doubt if he’ll hit any better than this year even if he does rehab.

The bright side is that we’ll get two picks each for Manny and Lowe (provided its still Logan White doing the picking.)

E, just look at the other teams around the major leagues and see where JP would fit in their respective outfields. He wouldn’t start in most of them and the ones he would start in are teams that have no chance of winning anytime soon and they wouldn’t be looking to be trading for an mediocre out machine. We are stuck with Pierre. Maybe in 2 years when he has 1 year remaining we could find someone to take him off our hands but we’d have to pay more then a majority of his salary and he will still limit us. Juan Pierre’s contract is one of the worst in Dodger history.

enchanted ~ I also agree that Pierre can be traded as you say for an average utility player. I’m not to keen on the salaries of the players but, with Lowe, Kent and Nomar gone, wouldn’t that free up quite a bit? I think Andruw is a lost cause…..we’ll probably have to eat his salary.

Max ~ The Giants would take Juan……they’d love a speedster to go along with their youth movement. They always take our old worn out ballplayers. If he can’t throw, so what, Barry couldn’t throw a ball towards the end of his career either.

I don’t know ~ I am on the side we are stuck with JP. I think if somebody wanted him, we could have off-loaded him through trade deadline or waivers, no?

Trublue…a team wouldn’t give up an average utility player who’s probably making around 1 million a year (probably even less) for Slappy. Slappy’s not a major league starter at this point in his career and since he’s very limited by his left handedness and his weak arm he’s not much of a utility player. The fact is that the utility player would have more value to the team then Pierre because of his limitations. We are stuck with Pierre.

as well as the dodgers have done the last 5 games, i fully expect them to get swept this series. we’re due for a huge let down again. judging by the trend of this season, anyways. go blue.

max ~ So, we are stuck with Juan, Schmidt? Nomar? (not sure of their contract status) and of course Andruw! If this is true, we will be a mess for the next few years, won’t we?

Another thing about JP ~ we keep forgetting that the Dodgers are the 4th team he has been with, and Ned was the idiot to sign somebody who had already been with 3 other teams who obviously didn’t want him ethier (either).

good evening ITD!! how is everyone doing? good i hope :-) man I feel like a goober for saying this but my day doesn’t feel complete without watching a dodger game!!! lol my Ethieraholism is kicking in and I’m having Ethier withdraws!! LOL I’m just chillin! it’s so weird cause I’m ALWAYS doing something… I am SSOOO excited to say…. I’M GOING TO THE GAME SATURDAY!! WOO HOO!! lol I’ll be cheering our boys in blue on!! and (of course) I’ll be wearing my Andre Ethier shirt!! haha :-) BTW how are all my fellow Ethieraholics doing this evening?

yarrum, remember the Dodgers are a .500 team. They recently lost 8 games in a row so in theory they have to win 8 games in a row. Since they’ve already won 5, in theory, we should sweep this series. Then again The Dodgers are the Dodgers so they will probably get swept. Actually I think we will go into the last series of the year in San Fran up 2 games over the Dfags only to have the Giants sweep us out of the playoffs.

yeah trublue, a mess. I pretty much laid it out in my long post above. Those deals hurt us on the field and in the free agent market. We can’t improve because we literally can’t afford to improve because we’ve got too much money tied up in useless people.

Acardona ~ this ETHIERaholic is doing just fabulous! However, I was wishing there was a game tonight. The last time we had a day off at home, the Dodgers went on to lose 8 in a row. So, I hope this isn’t a momentum killer.

The Casey Blake deal really might end up hurting us in the long run…

http://www.truebluela.com/

Max – “useless people” – No kidding!!!!!

Carlos Santana was traded to cover the 2 million or so that was owed to Blake this season. That wouldn’t have needed to be done if we didn’t sign Pierre, Jones or Schmidt. Those deals hurt us more then people realize.

Dnelly- I know! I am happy for the day off which our boys oh so need and deserve! but then again.. another down fall like that would absolutely kill us right now!!

Max- “We can’t improve because we literally can’t afford to improve because we’ve got too much money tied up in useless people”…

.
TELL ME ABOUT IT!!

As far as JP goes, I’d like to hold out hope that there is someone out there stupider than Ned.

Oh wait there is…

Hey Frank, got a minute?

enchanted- LOL!!!

I think we can all agree that it’s Ned’s disasterous signings that has hamstrung us from a player standpoint. However, Frank really has no choice but to fix it. If he doesn’t like the looks of his revenue numbers now, think what they’ll look like after 2 or 3 more seasons of the D’s playing barely contending baseball. Frank needs to cut his losses any way he can. I’m under no illusions that we’ll get much for them but Jones and Pierre need to be moved and, if we have to pay a significant portion of their salaries, so be it. They’re siphoning off playing time from more productive players. Additionally, neither of these two will ever be happy as part time players so getting rid of them eliminates potential clubhouse problems. If possible, Manny needs to be resigned. For the first time in years, we had a bat in our lineup that other teams feared. Do any of us want to go back to our mid-season lineup with the 2-headed revenue eating monster in our lineup? I’m really not interested in draft choices that may or may not help us in 2-4 years

LMAO!!!!! enchanted!!!!

seeskybout ~ I totally agree with you! Besides, I think there will be a drastic drop off in attendance if Manny isn’t somehow signed. L.A. or not, people will stop paying the outrageous prices to go to a ballgame. It is ridiculous how much it cosst a family of four to have an evening out at Dodger Stadium.

sorry about the typ “costs”

seesky- absolutely!! I wouldn’t mind getting rid of Andruw and Juan but we’re talking about Ned and Frank here… need I say more? lol lets just hope they realize that druw and JP ARN’T doing anything for this team! look at ALL that money thats just chillin on the DL (Druw)… we need Manny and i hope Ned and Frank will get smart and make the right choices on who to keep and who to trade/GET RID OF!!

If Frank’s really strapped for cash, why’s he trying to buy the L.A. Marathon? Talk about a money losing turkey. He probably wants to rename it the Boston Marathon West.

I mean really. What’s the first word that comes to your mind when you say marathon – 1. Boston, 2. Olympic, 3. New York, 4. Man (remember the Dustin Hoffman movie?)

Don’t think L.A. Marathon is ever going to be a household name.

hey TruBlue! how are you doing this evening?

It’s been reported that Frank doesn’t want to fire Ned because he wants to show that the organization is stable and consist. Frank, you can’t keep someone that’s been so consistently bad. Consistency is overrated anyways.

Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, ” a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds”. I can’t help but think of Frank every time I read that.

I’m great acardona. I just wish we were playing ball. They haven’t had a day off in so long….but, I miss them.

Max ~ On ESPN this morning they said the fans were in an uproar over Ned and that he may have to go. If he were fired, then what?

absolutely trublue!! it’s like mixed emotions cause I’m happy our boys are getting a WELL DESERVED rest! but then again I wish they were playing! I miss them already! haha

Especially when we were on a winning streak, acardona. Maybe they all went to eat at Andre’s pizza place LOL

its so cool that they have Dodger ticket advertisements on myspace! :-)

LOL trublue!! well if they did, any dodger fan that went to that place tonight is gunna get the surprise of their life!! lol

If he were fired I’d like to think Logan White or Kim Ng would be Nedorino’s replacement. Since we are limited financially thanks to Ned we NEED to hire a guy(or lady) that’s from inside the organization so that there isn’t any feeling out period with the players because we are going to have to fill some holes from within.

Max ~ sounds good to me!

If Frank’s so interested in organizational consistency, how come he’s had 3 managers in the last 4 seasons?

acardona ~ couldn’t you just imagine a table with Andre, Matt, James, Russell and Manny? I bet it would be a laugh a minute. I’d include Blake DeWitt too…. I think he’d fit in with the guys. I’d love to be at the table next to them!!!

max – One could only hope that would be the case.
.
trublue/acardona~ you would have to include DY as well, and Billz and Brox, too, but that would be a blast!!!

dnelly ~ Of course we could include them! The more, the merrier lol If i were at the table next to them I don’t think I’d be able to eat, which would be a first for me, because I’d be so starsrtuck!!

seesky, He realizes that he has made this organization look unstable by his changes and he is has his mind set on changing that.

TruBlue- I would just have a heart attack right then and there!! haha!! wow!! i can’t even imagine how awesome that would be!!

.
Dnelly- to me the more players the better!! haha!!

.
the players that would just make my day – Andre (of course) Matt, Russel, James, Blake (DeWitt) DY… that would just be an absolute blast to see all of them at one time! (off the field) haha!

Max ~ Maybe they will get back to the old ways of hiring their own…..all coaches used to be ex-Dodgers…..they took care of their valuable players and it was a family.

TruBlue- I like your idea of “hiring their own”.. that sounds good to me!

In fact, max, I’d love to see Mike Scioscia, Steve Yeager and Steve Garvey in Dodger Blue again! I forgot to hire Orel as pitching coach.

How wonderful it would be to have Dodger blue in charge of Dodger blue.

I know, dnelly. It’s only a dream but, sometimes dreams do come true!

Max- So the answer is to hold on to people who aren’t performing well at their jobs in order to appear stable? I, like the others, would like to see the D’s go back to hiring competent ex-Dodgers when possible.

does anyone else feel like this evening is a little boring and is just going on and on and ooonnnnn since there’s no dodger game? haha :-)

seesky ~ I saw the post about the 3 managers and I think Grady Little looked bored the whole time he was here. If we think Joe Torre is stuck to the rail….Jim Tracy was D.O.A.
So, management hasn’t done a very good job all around.

It is boring acardona. I might actually have to go do dishes!

do dishes? LOL!!!

Hey, they’re in the sink soaking! Just have to wash them. You know how much I love doing housework LOL

trublue ~ LOL!! I know.
.
I just finished watching James’ “Before the Bigs” – another good one. He’s a pretty good bowler, too. We might have to do the bowling fundraiser next year and show him how it’s done – LOL!!!

dnelly ~ I’ll dust off my bowling ball.

I’ll see you in the morning. I have to make dinner for your dad. I’m kind of tired from doing all my housework!

To Billy Joel’s great “I Love You Just The Way You Are”

Don’t go saving, to try and buy that
stupid LA Marathon
Don’t imagine you’re still in Boston
You just don’t live there anymore

We’ve been in love with our LA Dodgers
As long as we’ve been drawing breath
And we don’t care if you’re some old codger
We’ll fight you Gint fans to the death

We can’t care less for outfield shopping
Don’t change the color of the fence
You’ll always have our undying passion
Although we might just call you “dense”

We don’t want too much advertising
We just don’t need a media zoo
We just want a team we can be proud of
We want to cheer for Dodger Blue.

We need to know that you will always be
A good custodian of our team
What will it take you to truly believe
That we just don’t trust your regime.

We want old Dodgers in the dugout
Mike Scioscia in red is obscure
We’re sick and tired of seeing East Coast
We want us back the way we were.

Haunting sax solo

We always come back year after long year
Dependable as is the dawn
We all were here long before you got here
And we’ll still be here when you’ve gone.

Wow!!! Ward Dear… a song. We haven’t seen one of those in a long time it seems. I love that song, both this one and the original. I love Billy Joel music, period. Very swell job dear…..
.
Alot of good conversation about Manny today.

The last one was by obi_wen on August 30, 2008 4:53 PM. Indeed, a while.

I’m watching a PBS fundraiser that’s showing his “Stranger” concert from 30 years ago. Yes, 1978. I was reading your comments about getting old Dodgers back in the organization when he did this one.

Good song Eric! As a Dodgers fan, I don’t want a friggin’ marathon, I want a chance at Manny. I posted a (ironically enough) marathon post about that earlier. I guess I’m more irate in the mornings.

Regarding Manny, I think what I said was that Boras would only let Manny sign a one or two year deal if the market for him was similar to the one for Jones. Tepid. Honestly, I’m not sure anyone will be too willing to spend in excess of $20 million a year for 4 years for a 37-year-old. The big bidding war will be for CC. Everyone is saying the Yankees are opening up the checkbook for him. But he seems to be a character guy. Maybe he’ll be the kind of guy who will say, “You know, I’d rather take the $20 per to play in LA than the $24 in NY.” We’ll find out, won’t we?

Boy~ This off season is going to be someting else.
.
nsblues ~ I read your post from this morning. Alot of good points made then too. How’s the reading going?

It’s going good, just a bit behind, we finished Cuckoo’s nest today, but I haven’t yet. And now I have to finish the First Part of Richard IV by Tuesday, and have part of the Second Part read as well. I don’t know how I did it back when I had 3 Literature classes in the same semester…

I would love to have Manny or CC, but I guess our Fearless Leader would like to have a Marathon (?!)

As the owner of the Dodgers, I would think that Phase 1 of any civic rebuilding efforts would be… um… I don’t know… BUILDING THE DODGERS to be the pride of L.A. and Southern California again. What does he hope to happen plunking down more money he doesn’t have on a Marathon, and how does it benefit the Dodgers? I forsee a scene like this:

Kenyan: Say, this is a great Marathon!
Ethipoian: I know, at most only half as smoggy as Beijing!
Kenyan: You know, I’ve travelled half a world to run to bring pride to my country, but the only thing I am moved to ask is, who is the owner of this fine race?
Ethiopian: I’m not sure, HEEEEEEEEEEEEYYY AAAMMEERRRRRIIICAAAAAAAAN GUUUUUUUUYY!!!!!
American (30 racers back): YEAH?
Ethiopian: WHO OWWNNS THIS RACE?
American: THE OWNER OF THE BEST BASEBALL TEAM IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA.
Ethiopian: ARTE MORENO?
American: NO! FRANK MCCOURT!
Ethiopian: OKAY, THANKS!!!
Kenyan: I didn’t know the author of Angela’s Ashes had intrest in sports!
Ethiopian: Yeah, what a wonderful guy (running down the Centerfield entrance to Dodger Stadium and the end of the marathon). Say, what is this place?
Kenyan: I don’t know, I think it’s part of the set from Omega Man.
Ethiopian: Oh, yeah! And it’s great to see that they rebuilt it so fast after that Transformer crashed into the building!

Wow!! That is some heavy reading.

LMAO!!!! Fantastic nsblues!!!!!!!

Thanks Dnelly. I just don’t get it. And I’m a fan of distance running and track and field.

Hey Frank, I have an idea, “THINK BLUE”

I don’t know what these people are thinking sometimes. This Dodger team and it’s management have been a mystery all year long. I don’t know why we are surprised by anything that comes down the pipe when it comes to this Dodger team and it’s management. We think we’ve seen and heard it all, and then Bam!! “Here we go a

That’s strange ~ my sentence got cut off. It should have said “Here we go again…..”

You don’t suppose that Frank could be smarter than we think? I mean, consider the following:

The entry fee for the 2009 LA Marathon is about $100. There were 17,348 finishers this year. Gotta figure that less than 1% finished. That makes almost 200,000 entries, or $20 million gross. If he triples the entry fee, like what he did at Dodger Stadium, he’ll gross $60 million a year, which would pay for Manny, CC and a shiny new house every year!

Not so dumb!

LOL!!!! You always do think outside the box :)

Yeah. Sad, ain’t it? The more time goes on, the more I fight to come to the realization that Real Estate Frank maybe just saw a good oppurtunity to buy 300 acres just outside of Downtown L.A. I know the Dodgers aren’t just ants to him, he wants to do good, and he is, in every sense OUTSIDE of baseball. The road to hell is paved with good intentions… how bout the road to Centerfield?

After two years of watching the entire team get jerked around and seeing Ned Colletti lie to everybody about starting time, which he doesn’t control anyway, I couldn’t tell you the shape I’d be in come 2012 when the refurbished Dodger Stadium debuts if the team hasn’t at least gotten to the World Series.

This is an ugly thought: If the Dodgers haven’t won the World Series by then, they’ll be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Dodger Stadium, only to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the last Dodgers championship THE VERY NEXT YEAR!

Know how Arte Moreno could turn L.A. red in a heartbeat? Offer a 10% discount on beer to long-suffering Dodger fans.

Outside reality is more like it………….

So how was your day?

Eric… never though of it like that, as a cash cow. I just wish Mr. Boston would realize that he has a good thing here with Manny, the fans love him, the fans of every other team hate him, and he gets us on SportsCenter at least 15 minutes earlier every night.

Looking at historical statistics, Manny Ramirez’s don’t come along too often in a generation. Why not have Manny and Joe retire together in two years? They can sip Mojitos while laughing at the Red Sox and Yanks getting the tar beaten out of them by the Dodger’s ex-prospe… uh, I mean the Rays.

LOL!! Aren’t we all outside reality right now being Dodger fans? With the things we have had to endure this season (and it’s not over yet), I think we are all wonder what’s real or fantasy.
.
My day was very good. All the State testing scores came out today, and our school jumped 24 points from 797 to 821. 800 is the number the government wants all schools to be at by the year…. (I forget the year). As much as we hate the testing itself, our score helps us in being able to have a little more freedom in how we operate. We won’t have to jump through as many hoops, I suppose.
.
How was your day? Didn’t you have a parent meeting for hockey?

Boy north, that IS an ugly thought.

And speaking of ugly realities…….

“Among baseball’s most active pitchers over the last two seasons, Scott Proctor described the 10 weeks he spent on the disabled list as “agonizing.”

REACTION: Now he knows how we feel when he’s trotting in from the bullpen.

“Proctor pitched in his first game since June 21 on Wednesday….. He got one out and walked one.”

REACTION: Nice ratio. You’re obviously healed. Wait……..next sentence is………

“Proctor says his elbow isn’t completely healed.”

REACTION: Then what the hell are you doing pitching in a pennant race? WE DON’T NEED YOU!!!!!!

“I don’t regret anything I did other than putting the team in tough situations,” he said.”

REACTION: I’m actually speechless.

The whole incredible article:

See Eric ~ Why in the world are the fans having to be subjected to this crap? The management keeps assuming all these problems with pitchers on DL or our PVL infielders and outfielders are just going to vanish someday, and they will be as good or better than they were before going on the DL or being benched. What a waste of money!!!!! – like that hasn’t been said at least a few thousand times on ITD this season. Some of that money is just going to have to waste away on the bench for a few years if the Dodgers expect to do anything beyond this year.

No kidding Deb! I could see Proctor bragging about how tough he is and how he really sacrificed himself on the field if he was actually effective or if everyone else on the staff was doing worse in his absence than his 7.00 ERA. But he STINKS! He’s hurting and he STINKS. What am I missing here?

It’s the Sweeney version of pitching IMO. I think last night on the board it was a unanimous “Oh my God not Proctor” – That’s exactly what we think when Sweeney comes in to PH. Why oh Why do they do that to us poor fans. LOL!!! You would have to think some of the players think the same thing. I picture Matt Kemp rolling his eyes when he sees Proctor coming out of the gate. He has a really good “rolling the eyes” look. The “Are you kidding me look” like when he strikes out. Or what about Russell. Fortunate for him, his expressions are hidden behind his mask – LOL!!

That’s great news about your school’s test scores. At the back to school meeting last night the principal told us that their scores were very good as well, but she couldn’t tell us what it actually was. A big secret I guess. She said it would be on the school’s website today, but it’s not yet.

Yes, we had a hockey meeting tonight, but I didn’t go. My wife is a little under the weather, so I stayed home with her. Matt went by himself. I didn’t think that much would change from the last 2 years and I was right. Nothing new, we’re gonna do great, we have great coaches, we’re serious about no one playing if they have an F, etc.

You’re right about the Sweeney/Proctor relation. They get it. They go out there with a plan. They’re proven veterans. They will always return to form.

I just wish Sweeney’s plan wasn’t to strike out 75% of the time.

But, to be fair, Joe figured out that Ethier is better than Pierre after only 5 months or so. Maybe by January he’ll understand about Sweeney/Proctor.

Awww!! That’s sweet!! I hope your wife is feeling a little better. Yes, the test scores should have come out today, and I am assuming they will be public record (via newspaper) tomorrow morning. We don’t have hockey here so I didn’t even realize it was a fall sport. So, it coincides with football? For us, this is the first year we don’t have any fall sports. Michael isn’t playing football, but practicing baseball, and Mariya is just being a student for right now. It’s kind of a good thing, I guess. This new business is really kicking into gear. They have purchased the batting cages, pitching mound stuff, merchandise to sell, etc, etc. The little league here in town wants to rent out office space to run the organization through our place – very exciting. They want to run sign-ups and their skills day through us as well.

Heheheh! We should be so lucky!

Yes, I do have to give Joe credit for that. He did finally figure out that Ethier is one of the three best outfielders. It will be really interesting to see how this outfield issue unfolds in the off season and into next spring training.

It will also be interesting to see what Joe does when Andre has to be out of the lineup – hmmmm! I am guessing JP, with DY or Repko coming in the later innings.

They play it year ’round, believe it or not. Matt couldn’t play the fall section the last two years due to football, but this year he’s hockey-only. He said there wasn’t enough glory for the work he had to put into it! LOL!! I see his point. He’s never really been into football anyway. He only did it to help him get into shape.

Wow!! year round. I could imagine hockey would keep Matt in pretty good shape. I guess technically baseball is year round. We are supposed to be starting fall ball soon. I know we are cooking Chile Verde for the Dugout Club fundraiser on Saturday (13th). Michael doesn’t miss football at all ethier (either). However, his freshman football coach is his baseball coach now, so that might be factor. He works hard for him and respects him a great deal.

They’ve got fundraisers galore here too. Hockey is a club sport, which is a euphemism for “parents pay for everything”. Oh well, this IS the life I picked…..LOL!!!

Well, I’m falling asleep. Good night and God Bless, June Darlin’! And you, north, if you’re still awake!

Good Night Ward Dear…. Have a wonderful sleep, and take care of your wife, like you are already I’m sure. I will talk to you in the am. God Bless to you too.. :)

Greetings ITD!!
Have not posted for a while. We had a wonderful time in Arizona where we saw our boys beat up on the Snakes Saturday and Sunday. We had tickets in the 5th row back of the visitor’s dugout for Saturday and on Sunday we were a few rows further but between the visitor’s dugout and home plate. We liked our tickets from Saturday better and we paid less for those. For Sunday’s game our tickets were 2 sets of 2 an aisle apart so boys on one side and girls on another. We had seat 3 & 4 with 1 & 2 empty so way prior to the game Erik was talking to me standing by seat 2 when this man came in and asked the waitress (food service there) to check our tickets. Erik got chased and the man sat in seat 1. the whole game seat 2 was empty. After the score was 8-0 the man left and seeing that a few innings had gone by, I signaled the boys to come over only to have them chased again by the usher with the waitress eyeing us close by. I was so glad that the score was in our favor. We sang “I Love L.A” both days after the game.
.
During the game on Sunday, I thought I recorgnized James Loney”s father from watching Jame’s “Before the Bigs” After the game as he and his family were going up the steps, I asked him. We told him how much we enjoy watching his son play but I also told him that he has been hitting into too many double plays. He replied “is that right?” Lore suggested for Erik and I to sing the Loney song so we told Loney’s dad we had a song to sing. He then called back his wife and Jame’s brother (I think) and another kid. We sang while they smiled :-)
.
Big highlight of our trip: Meeting Vin!! We were in Awe! It was amazing hearing him say my name!!
.
We got back at 3:a.m. Monday morning and 12 hours later we were back at our beloved Dodger Stadium to continue the winning streak! Can’t wait for tonights game! Go D.Lowe! Go Dodgers!!
.

Wow crz! I am jealous!

Very good article about Andre and his ties to Arizona, and how he is trying to convert his family and friends to Dodger fans.

Piano Man

It’s nine o’ clock on a Saturday
The regular crowd shuffles in
There’s an old man sitting next to me
Makin’ love to his tonic and gin.

He says, “Son can you take out some veterans?
I don’t really care who they are.
But I’m sick and I’m tired of these fools Ned acquired.
Can you do it while I stay in this bar?”

Da da da da de de da Da da de de da da

Help out the team, you’re the Piano Man,
Help out the Dodgers tonight.
Well, we’re all in the mood for a DFA.
The team’s getting younger, all right.

So I tug on my block and tackle rope
And I haul the piano on up
And I wait for Estaban Lo-a-i-za
To spill latte from his Starbucks cup

He says “Ned, I believe that my back is sore,”
As a smile ran away from his face.
“Well I’m sure that you’ll start feeling better
Once that Kershaw kid can take your place.”

Da da …

Help out the team, you’re the Piano Man,
Help out the Dodgers tonight.
Well, we’re all in the mood for a roster change.
The team’s getting younger, all right.

Now Bennett’s a steroid abuser,
Who’s not had a decent career.
Now he can’t throw a lick and he’s making me sick
So that piano is between his ears.

And Nomar is stealing his salary
While he sits and his bones hurt like hell
I’ve lined him up while he films bits with his wife
Now he’s also on the 60 DL

INSTRUMENTAL

Help out the team, you’re the Piano Man,
Help out the Dodgers tonight.
Well we’re all in the mood to cut Andruw Jones.
The team’s getting younger, all right.

It’s a pretty good crowd for a Saturday,
And the manager gives me a smile.
‘Cause he knows that it’s me who’s been helping the team
So the youngsters can play for a while.

And the piano is rising back up again
And is really straining the rope.
It’s waiting for Sweeney, that really big weenie
Man, it’s time they got rid of that dope!

Da da ..

Sing us a song, you’re the Piano Man
Sing us a song tonight
That man’s crapping all over the 22
Have him clean out his locker, all right……

By dodgereric on May 29, 2008 4:30 PM

That was written when Sweeney was wearing Buckner’s 22.

Awesome eric!!!! I love it!

You’re welcome, brotha……..!

Great song dodgereric! and what an inspiration for you Piano Man!

I am so sick of the Dbacks. Lets sweep these jotos!

Oh almost forgot. I’ll be at the game tonight wearing my Ethier shirt. Hope he goes deep tonight. Last game I went to he went deep right after I bought the shirt and he almost hit for the cycle. If he has another great night tonight I’m gonna have to seriously consider going to every game the rest of the season.

max ~ way to go! I hope you bring them luck, and have to wear your Ethier shirt until it’s completely worn out!

Max ~ would that be the game that just happened or the game back on April 12th. Andre almost hit for the cycle then too. I was at that game. Have a blast at the game tonight, and I hope they show you the Dodger team that took 2 out of 3 from the dbacks and swept the Padres, and not the one that ended up in Philly and Washington.
.
Ward Dear ~ thanks for the repost of that song – another one of my favs, but I have too many favs I am finding out… :)

It was the game just recently against the Madres Nelly. The team has been hot lately. Like I said earlier in this loooooong thread, we lost 8 in a row so, in theory, we should win 8 in a row. Since we’ve won 5 in a row going into tonight we should sweep these losers! Trublue, I’ve only had the shirt for 3 days and i’ve worn it all 3 days since i’ve had it. Today will will be the 4th.

We have to win tonight. It’s been a hard 2 years for us. Tonight, no matter what eventually will happen would go along ways to making me believe in these guys. The time is now. Get it done. We have 5 times the exp as the other team does. Isn’t that what we paid for? So fine I give up in my quest for a well run franchise, that just won’t happen. But we should win these games based on all the PR talk for two/ four years now about how important expierence is.

All that paid experience now riding pine or on the DL ~ And to think they were the experience Ned/Frank/Joe were counting on to get it done. What a turn of events this team has taken.

I am trying to pay my postseason invoice on line but it says my account is locked. I forgot my password. Next I am callin but I am hearing a recording saying they are experiencing long delays due to today being the deadline. The invoice can also be faxed, but I am at work and due to company security, faxing is not permitted. agggh….back to waiiting on line.

back to waiting on the phone…..

Andre is very special indeed…..his thread has been running for 3 days…..hope it’s a sign of good luck. GO DODGERS

Hey all, ready for another day of Dodger Baseball. Up in Chico right now, but about to take off for home soon…

crzblue, good luck getting your postseason tickets, I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you. and it’s great you were able to take the Loney song back to the Loneys, I’m sure leekfink and martinloneykemp/lny4loney will be psyched about that!

OK, gotta jet home, things look a little quiet around here. Let’s get the Boys of Summer out there and KICK SOME D-BAG ***!!!!!!!

From the King, “It’s Now Or Never”

It’s now or never,
It’s time to fight
Knock out the D-bags,
win one tonight
Tomorrow will be too late,
it’s now or never
Let’s get eight straight!

Matt Kemp at lead-off
will double to right center.
Andre will follow
with a big hit to left.
Then Manny will spill
a beer in the bleachers
It’s three to zip
the time is here at last.

It’s now or never,
expand that lead.
Beat Arizona,
these games we need.
Tomorrow will be too late,
it’s now or never
First place won’t wait.

Ground balls from Derek,
is all we want to see.
Twenty putouts for Loney
lead to victory.
The race excites me,
looming playoffs invite me
For who knows when
we’ll meet again this way

It’s now or never,
play defense tight
Make all the right throws,
let’s win tonight
We’re with you from Cal to Maine,
it’s now or never
Look, it’s ndeschenes!

Wow, can’t even use “$” for “S” anymore, LOL!!!

Ward Dear ~ Another swell song :)
.
Eric has left the building…. I couldn’t resist – LOL!!!

Great song, Eric.
.
This is it, folks. This is a playoff series. It defines the rest of the year.
.
Win 3 –> 1.5 games ahead
Win 2 –> 0.5 games behind, and 1 game behind in loss column.
Win 1 –> 2.5 games behind, it will be a long Sept.
Win 0 –> 4.5 games behind, it will be a long winter.

new thread.
