Sunday night baseball and ThinkCure auction finale

For those who will be home tonight, be sure to tune into ESPN, as we’re on the Sunday night national game against the Phillies. There’s no question, we’ve got to start winning series now and dropping the first two of this four-game set hurts. But, with three games back and 33 games to go, the D’back could go 20-13 (which is seven games over .500…what they’ve done all year) and we’d have to go 24-9. Doesn’t seem likely, but it’s not impossible.

Now, consider if the D’backs go 17-16 and we go 21-12…we’d still win the West by a game.

Bottom line…there are plenty of games left to play and many of them are against teams that are under .500, but we’ve got to start winning now!

As for the ThinkCure auction, to answer a couple questions, it is for just one person (I can’t really have an entourage at work!) and six years old is probably a little young for this. I don’t believe there’s a formal limit on the site, but I’d say 16 is about as young as we can probably go and get away with it.

There’s about six hours left and we’re beating KABC’s Josh Suchon…it goes until 9 p.m. PT tonight, so make Inside the Dodgers proud and help find the cure for cancer!

UPDATE: Tonight’s lineup

Kemp, CF

Ethier, RF

Kent, 2B

Manny, LF

Loney, 1B

Nomar, SS

Blake, 3B

Martin, C

Kuroda, P

    You are indeed mom!!

I wrote this awhile ago (before the Blake & Manny acquisitions) and forgot to post it, but I think it still holds pretty true:

My psychological profile on the three stooges:
    .
Frank: Seeming interested on the surface, but in reality generally apathetic. Wants to win, but doesn’t possess much more baseball knowledge than a casual observer. Being a PR oriented person, tends to believe hype over substance. Would probably prefer to turn Dodger Stadium into high rise apartments and condos if it was socially acceptable. His personal highlight of his tenure was the coliseum game raising money for his charity, and getting to see his beloved Red Sox again.
    .
Ned: Amicable as any PR man would be to your face, but will throw you under the wheels to save his own neck. Has enough baseball knowledge to be dangerous, but not enough to know what he’s doing. Surrounds himself with more knowledgeable subordinates to cover his own shortcomings, yet will buy into someone else’s PR hype, and won’t do his homework to see if what he’s buying is a limo or a used VW microbus. Tends to compound mistakes with more mistakes due to a flawed philosophy.
    .
Joe: Old. Tired. Cliched. Stubborn. Stuck in an past era and terribly adverse to change. Would probably buy a retread tire rather than a new one because of its proven usefulness in the past. Blindly loyal to his veteran players because of their past achievements, and not their current ability. Had great success when money could buy every player he wanted, but mediocre where it couldn’t.

Good Afternoon Enchanted!! Great post on the previous thread. We have known since day one this season it was going to be like this. I don’t know why people are surprised. Also, jungar made some good points too, that we are trading away our future to try and win today, and that wasn’t the intent at the beginning of the season ethier (either).

  3. enchantedbeaver

Thought I’d throw in my 2 cents worth Nells before Oberon rose and eclipsed the rest of the celestial bodies. ๐Ÿ™‚

I find it difficult to remain on when we find ourselves in conflict when Uranus is in the 7th house and Oberon aligns with Titania. Its a CH4 explosion of extraordinary magnitude.

  4. tradejuanpypaperbag

Enchanted ~ I certainly know what you mean – LOL!! Like you said, the magnitude of the problem is increasing, and there is no end in sight, unfortunately. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. kpookiemon

I’m OK with the young players the Dodgers have dealt in the past few years. I think they’ve kept the “keepers.” The knock might be that we traded these nice little chips for basically nothing, and I would certainly classify Lugo, Hendrickson, et al as basically nothing. I DO want to re-sign Manny and build aroung MartinLoneyKempEthierBillingsleyKershaw, but having Grandpa Joe with his stubborn rigidity is a bummer. When I complain about Grandpa to a friend of mine who used to play ball in the Twins minor league system, he points out that Torre is indeed a Hall-of-Fame manager and would never second-guess him…….BUT he agrees that Torre was the wrong hire for this particular Dodger team. As I said last night on the blog, Torre’s rigid insistence concerning Manny’s hair probably turned a lot of young players off, just when they were starting to have fun again with Manny leading the way. To be sure, Ramirez’ hair had nothing to do with his production, but it everything to do with team chemistry and allowing these kids to breathe again. Grandpa has preached all year that some kids “don’t get it.” I have to laugh, Joe. Look in the mirror: a classic case of the pot calling the kettle black. If being one game over .500 mean “you get it,” then conbgratulations, Joe, on leading this team to its fullest potential.

  6. trublu4ever

enchantedS ~ You simply must stay on when Oberon is in orbit. If we all join forces, we can zap him right out of here. You see, there is power in numbers. Hope you are having a great day.

  7. northstateblues

Hey all, what can I say? I don’t really have much to add to the Dodger conversation, which is why I haven’t been posting lately. I’m hoping to see us come up big today and tomorrow, on National Television. I’ll probably be watching Closing Ceremonies when it comes on, though. They’ve got Jimmy Page tonight, and I’m not gonna miss that.

Good luck with the auction Josh! Let’s out-donate Shelbyville Suchon!! GO ITD!!! GO DODGERS!!!

P.S. I think I’m lost with the Celestial object talk. Is Juu-pi-teerrr aligned wiiiith Mars?

  8. tradejuanpypaperbag

trublue ~ Enchanted should know about the power in numbers. He was a number for a few days, remember? LMAO!!! I still say his number comes down to the number 9.
1+9+8+8+2+0+0+8 = 36 and 3+6=9, and who is number 9? – hmmmm!!! My theory is “you know who’s” mama is responsible for our stolen identities – LOL!!!
    .
BTW – Where’s Obi? We haven’t seen him around in a while. The thought bubbles sure would come in handy tonight ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. trublu4ever

dnelly ~ I’ve been wondering about obi too. Power in numbers is a great thing — we could jam the lines and, who knows, he may not be able to get posted. We have totally confused nsblues. Do you have the power to explain our situation?

  10. enchantedbeaver

Could be why we haven’t heard from Obi lately:
    .
    .
“I’m gonna have to kick me Obi’s _ _ _ before we leave for Philadelphia” – Juan Pierre thought bubble Thursday 6:00 AM

  11. tradejuanpypaperbag

    LMAO!!! Enchanted ๐Ÿ™‚
    .
Can’t complain about the lineup. Let’s hope Kuroda and the bat boys are all nsync tonight.

  12. trublu4ever

Lineup is good. I see Joe is sticking with the guys who are going to win for him. It going to work, Joe, you will see! Dbacks losing 3-2 after 6 innings

  13. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Hey there Ms. TruBlue…. I’ve come into today with a new attitude, it’s a new game… Hopefully the fish can hold on and beat AZ. We really need some momentum somehow. It really does look like Joe is convinced that these are the best guys to put out there…. If only he had realized that a few months ago, then maybe we’re not in the situation. Oh well, neither here nor there… Let’s get a big W tonight!! Create something to look forward to!! Time is running out.

  14. tradejuanpypaperbag

nsblues ~ stay up for ITD night owl version, and we can explain the best we can the celestial talk – lol ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. trublu4ever

Brandon ~ I have a feeling that your new attitude will be rewarded today. Joe did say he was going to play these guys and let’s hope he is true to his word. If he gives this a chance, I think it will pay off in the long run. By the way, was your surf & turf good last night? I couldn’t stop thinking about it while I was eating my low-carb burger!

  16. juniorvarsity

well since this season is basically over…thank god…i hate manny…

i am itching to see ivan dejesus jr. in a dodger uniform this sept. he is hitting .318 coming into todays game. and i think he should be called up instead on Hu…i believe he will be traded this offseason anyway. dewitt (who i cant wait to see back, cuz he is one of my favorite players) should play second next year and dejesus, even tho he is not the best fielder right now, should play short. the D’s should use their money to focus on a power hitting thrid basemen. and maybe some pitching with the loss of lowe and most likely penny…and that guy who wore 29 once?? he prolly wont pitch next year either..he will just sail off into the sunset with his millions lol.

you know what is kind of sad…actually really sad…for the past couple years instead of being in the middle of the race in sept. and looking forward to october…all we have to look forward to is the sept. callups

  17. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

It was great Trueblue, my best friend grilled steaks and lobster which he had topped with pesto, really good flavor. A few beers and some swimming, not too bad for a Sat. night. Kind of nice though because I’ll be going back to school tomorrow… not excited… but it’s part of life. I decided to go back a couple of years ago to get a Marketing degree… My fiance is getting her doctorate in Physical Therapy, so, I kind of have to keep up my end of the bargain. This past weekend I also visited a new sports store in the Tropicana where I work, and bought a Dodger pennant, a stop sign that says “Stop, you’re entering Dodger country”, a road sign pointing to Dodger Stadium, and my fiance’s mom got me some Dodger plates, and bowls, and cups…. Those I hung on the wall with velcro, I also sutck a few things on the wall…. For some reason she won’t let me paint my office in Dodger colors!! haha… It’s fun, and looks good, I can’t wait til we have kids, and I can decorate my sons room like that too… good times.

  18. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

We win the next couple, and get back to within a game, we’re right back into this thing going into Washington… Then we stand a chance… Those are the games that we HAVE to win… We can’t be losing to those guys if we’re going to win this thing.

  19. trublu4ever

Brandon ~ When my kids left home we took one of the bedrooms and made it into our “sports” room. It has all of my Dodger collectibles plus some Lakers; USC & UCLA stuff. There is also mementos of my kids school sports. Another bedroom is all teddy bears — only about 300 little guys. And we are making the other bedroom into M & M’s collectibles. The rest of my house has lots of Mickey Mouse items. I have never really grown up. When I went to the Dodger game a couple of weeks ago I also bought lots of things — had to get a Manny shirt because if he’s not with us next year, I’ll have a memory. Bought Andre’s, James’ and already have Russells. I also had to get the pink Dodger jersey and cap, which I had Andre sign — so cool. He was so sweet. I know why there are so many ethieraholics.

  20. tradejuanpypaperbag

hey Brandon ~ Your office sounds like portions of my classroom – Dodger stuff everywhere!
    .
enchanted~ I was doing my Dodger trivia game this morning, and one of the questions was “Which Dodger is known as noodle arm?” I got that answer right ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. bluecrewgirl

Let’s hope the Marlins can hang on. We need to start helping ourselves and not depending on other teams to bail us out,

  22. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Yeah, I like it Nelly… I’m funny though, my fiance wonders why I never watch games in there…. Well, to be honest, every time I watch a game in there, they lose…. I’m about as superstitious as the players sometimes… It’s scary, haha

  23. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

I’m really not comfortable with the D-Backs having the tying run at the plate in the form of Tony Clark!!

Dodgers have targeted Sabathia as winter prize
    Getty Images
The Los Angeles Dodgers might be more likely to sign CC Sabathia than Casey Blake this winter.

That, at least, is the way Blake sees it. The two men played together for five seasons in Cleveland, before the Indians traded Sabathia to the Milwaukee Brewers and Blake to the Dodgers last month. The left-hander is expected to command at least $100 million as the top starting pitcher in free agency, and Blake said Sabathia has shared no inside information about his preferred destinations. Sabathia hails from the Bay Area and has said he is shopping for a home in Southern California.

“I think he wants to be close to home,” Blake said. “I think it would be in his best interest to stay in the National League.”

    Why?

“Just because he rakes,” Blake said.

Indeed, Sabathia hit a 440-foot home run at Dodger Stadium this season. Of the three NL clubs in California, the San Diego Padres are expected to slash their payroll, and the San Francisco Giants might shy away from a large contract for a pitcher after their $126-million experience with Barry Zito.

Ballgame… Marlins win… Now we’ve got to do our part!! Come on! We can’t squander these types of chances!!

  26. vl4ecc

Good afternoon all. I’m sure glad the fish beat the snakes. This team can’t afford to go more than 3 back. The Mets only lead the Phillies by a game now loosing to the Stro’s. Should be an exciting game tonight. There’s alot at stake for both teams.

    GO DODGERS!!!

  27. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

hey guys, hope everyone’s been well!

i find it interesting that joe’s been sticking with russell during his whole slump, and then he chooses the day after he hits a homer to bump him to the 8th spot.. not saying that it’s bad for russell.. it’s just a curious decision..

  28. amyw27

Good Evening all. I hope we all had a beautiful and restful weekend. These are my hopes tonight.
    .
The dominating Kuroda shows up and shuts them down. I’d hate to see the “I can only last 2 innings” Kuroda.
    .
our guys get on base and we score more than just of homeruns. Good job to Russy and Andre for doing their part, but we need more men to touch home.
    .
No Errors!! There will be no sun- so all the outfield flyouts/pop-ups will be caught!
    .
And lastly I hope they all have fun and make good decisions at the plate. Our team has been putting it together lately, so we shouldn’t let this road trip shake us.
    .
no let’s play some basesball!!! GO DODGERS!!!!
    .

  29. kssssss

Ok Gang…..I love our young players, especially Kemp and Ethier…and Loney…and hopefully Russell can pick it up again…but I hope we don’t look back on the Casey Blake for Carlos Santana and someone else trade as a really bad trade…from what I’ve read Santana is the real deal….and Ned seems to want the Dodger fans to think he can make trades at the deadline because he makes such BIG mistakes in the off seasons….If we had kept some of the players the Dodgers traded away at or after the trade deadline, this team would be considerably better and younger….how about Willy Ayber?..or Cody Ross?…or Jason Werth( who wanted to sue the Dodgers for misdiagnosing his wrist injury, but decided against it)…I can’t stand Ned…Getting Manny was fun and put a little charge into the team, but as you can see, it’s certainly not enough….
This team had a nice little 5 game run at home, but they’re AWFUL on the road and we have many more road games left…..We have good pitching (sometimes) but no ace, like the Dbacks have….they actually have 2-3…..We never know what we’ll get from ours…..oh…and Maddox teaching our young guys, gets torched…thanks Greg…
Sad to say, but I don’t think we have enough…same old thing every year….mediocre…..around 500…under/over but not by much….this is getting really boring and unacceptable……Where is Logan White…and why can’t he be GM???

p.s….this little bad patch started with the Rockies coming to Dodger stadium…..I hate to say but I think they are better than the Dodgers…better hitters, and now even better pitching, including the bullpen….sad, eh?!

  30. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

i got your email.. can’t wait to see your pictures.. i can’t remember the last time we were on the blog at the same time!

  31. sl7180@hotmail.com

So did anyone take the time and read that article? I don’t know why I always seem to get ignore. I don’t waste my time copy and paste for no reason at all.

  32. amyw27

it’s been forever Sara. Maybe it’s goo that way- we get to “catch eachother up” ๐Ÿ™‚
    .
I know- I totally shot video, you will love it!!I need to share it with someone who actually cares. you know how that one goes.
    .
I am looking forward to this evening game. I want to Win so badly.

  33. amyw27

shad- some of us just got here tonight. I hadn’t read it. Thank you for sharing. I am also for getting players to make this team better. But if he want’ $100m- wouldn’t we put our focus on getting Manny to stay instead?

  34. amyw27

I really would love that. Even though I love JP, if he go to a team where he can play and be happier I am for that. Freeing up his money for Manny or CC sounds like a plan to me.

  35. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

yeah, amy, i know how it goes.. i can’t wait for the pictures and the video.. i’ll definitely need to go next time there’s an event~

  36. sl7180@hotmail.com

oops forgot Pierre/Jones money is just too bad I can’t edit my own posted. I hate to make a minor mistake.

  37. tradejuanpypaperbag

Amy ~ I printed out another picture of our boys together again. Same shot of the hug, but from the other side, showing Andre’s number rather than Matt’s – very sweet!
    .
For you Ethieraholics – On Yahoo sports, they ranked the 3 hottest hitters for the week, and Andre was #1 – It’s not just Dodger fans noticing anymore ๐Ÿ™‚

  38. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

btw dnelly, you know i love andre too.. but i’m more of a russaholic.. haha

  39. amyw27

dnell- That is fablous. What I love most is seeing our boys happy and in celebration. I should probably do the same thing and print it out. If I can’t find it, would you be able to send it to me?
    .
lol Sara. All these ‘holics’ around here ๐Ÿ˜‰

  40. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

i think kent’s going to go off on morgan and miller for talking about who he’s hitting in front of to attribute his success..

yeah kent! get the rally going!

  41. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

There we go, very nice start… This is the first time in a while that Manny will be coming up with guys on base!

  42. amyw27

yea Dnelly- I can’t seem to find that Matt/Dre pic. Would it be ok for me to ask you to email it to me??
    Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚

  43. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Come on James!! This is a great start… only thing that scares me is that he hits into a lot of double plays!!

  44. tradejuanpypaperbag

    JAMES ANTHONY LONEY
    .
My Loney has a first name,
    It’s J-A-M-E-S
My Loney has a second name,
    It’s L-O-N-E-Y
I love to watch him every day
And if you ask me why I’ll say
‘Cause James Loney has a way
    With H-I-T-T-I-N-G!
    .
    By leefink and martinloneykemp

  45. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

did miller just say that loney got a good pitch to hit because NOMAR is behind him??? has he even seen nomar at bat lately?? maybe loney’s just a good hitter, and blanton’s just not very good..

  46. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

it’s one thing to attribute kent’s success to manram behind him, but to attribute loney’s success to nomar?? that’s the stupidest thing ever..

  47. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Prime example of how we really have sucked at hitting in crucial situations lately…. It’s crap!! We will not win this game 1-0… It just wont happen

  48. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

a good chance.. and we get 1 run.. does anyone even wonder why we’ve been losing lately?

luckily it’s blanton.. and i’m sure we’ll have more scoring opportunities..

    come on hiroki!!

  49. tradejuanpypaperbag

Amy ~ the picture is under Yahool sports. It’s in Andre’s photo gallery. Go under Dodgers, then roster, then Andre. You might be able to find it through Matt, too. If you still can’t find it, then I will definitely e-mail it to you- not a problem.

  50. amyw27

hey guys- it’s only the 1st inning. let’s breathe and see what happens. We’ve had some big 9th inning wins—so it’s not over til it’s over!!!!
    .
OMG Nomar- so embarassing. Didn’t I say no errors today? goodness

  51. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

    vl, i hate them both..
btw, who were you before? i know you’ve said.. but i can’t recall..

  52. amyw27

Thank you Dnell- I got it. I totally thought I put that picture somewhere. It might be on my computer at work. All that matters is that I have it now. I love it ๐Ÿ™‚

  53. amyw27

you know what Sara. as my friend ‘Crush’ from Nemo would say, “You So Totally Rock!”
    .
haha. you are awesome too :-p
    .
but for real. It does us no good to get down in the dumps. We did get a run in. That’s awesome. Yea, we could’ve cashed in a lot more, but we are on the board with 8 more innings to go.
    .
Dnel- did you just see that break down of Andre’s AB? look at the patients at the plate. He “so totally rocks” also. haha.

  54. vl4ecc

Yup I rank Joe Morgan right up there with Kornheiser from MNF. Two broadcaster I just love to hate. Both windbags that never know when to just zip it shut.

  55. bluecrewgirl

DNelly, did you hear Joe Morgan say that Andre probably didn’t start to first on ball 4 because he wanted to get a hit? He’s probably right about that, lol.

  56. tradejuanpypaperbag

bluecrewgirl ~ I think so, too. He looked at the umpire because he knew it was ball four, but he didn’t say anything.

  57. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

yeah jj, the name changes have been really confusing.. especially because i haven’t been around.. so i don’t know when people explained their name changes at all..

yay matty! with a little help from burrell!

  58. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

what an idiotic decision.. why in the world would you ever throw behind the runner??

  59. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

umm.. shad, i just read what you wrote about amy up there.. where’d that come from? isn’t that weird to say that about someone you don’t even know?

  60. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

okae, well i don’t know you’re playing with her so it comes off a little odd

  61. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

That first pitch to Manny according to Gameday was way the heck outside, and it was called a strike…

  62. sl7180@hotmail.com

I guess you missed all the fun a weeks ago I think when I said I wanted to bid on her and she call me silly.

  63. amyw27

shad- you may be playing, but it’s still a little strange. Please refrain from saying those things. we are fellow bloggers and that’s about it.
    .
    crap a 1-2-3 inning. not pretty ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
    .
Let’s retire them in order and blast it next inning!
    .
    GO DODGERS!

  64. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Well, it was only a matter of time before Loney frounded into a dp in this game. Luckily it didnt happen in the 1st. We desperately need to get our bats going… This is getting embarassing, we’ve scored a total of 4 runs in 22 innings os play

  65. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

We had Blanton on the ropes in the 1st and let him off…. We’ve not really had good at bats since…. We need to get going!! Donnie baseball get after these guys!! I’m really convinced that Kuroda, all be it pitching very well so far, can’t make a 1 run lead hold up against this lineup, and in this park!!

  66. amyw27

i am going to agree with the announcers, like I said before, I am so glad that the “dominating” Kuroda showed up tonight.

  67. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Very weird game for Kuroda so far, he’s getting the job done. But 59 pitches with 30 being strikes, and 29 being balls…. Kind of an odd way to get by. I just keep saying, we have to get him some more runs to work with. It just takes one swing of the bat in this park to make things start to get ugly. Just ask Greg Maddux and Clayton Kershaw.

  68. bluecrewgirl

Me too, Amy, but I hope we can finally get the offense going again tonight too. Seems like that day off last Monday wasn’t good for the momentum they were building.

  69. ajay m

Has anybody else heard that Jones is working on playing first base in Triple-A and when he comes back in September he can give Loney an occasional day off .

  70. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Good way to start things off, lets get some guys on base for our big boppers…. We need more runs!!

  71. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

yup ajay, i read that on tj’s blog.. he played first last night.. i really don’t like the idea of removing loney’s bat and replacing it with andruw’s.. aren’t we trying to IMPROVE the offense? joe and ned make me scratch my head..

  72. amyw27

i hadn’t heard that ajay/sara. That’s crazy! at least they are being creative and trying to put him in a spot where he might actually get to play and not interfere with the out fielders who deserve it.
    hmmm.. interesting.

  73. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

amy, i think it’s more that there isn’t much his knee can take.. if in fact his knee is bothering him..

  74. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

All I’m going to say is FREAKIN’ POINT MADE!!! Damnit, sometimes I’m to baseball smart for my own good…. Our offense is really starting to tick me off. We are pretty good at a lot of things. But one thing the Dodgers are great at is wasting scoring chances!! It’s going to bite them in the butt…. I’m still convinced that this game will not be won 1-0.

  75. amyw27

sara- if it hurts and it doesn’t get better especailly at first- then he’ll just have to go on the DL again.

PHILADELPHIA — It’s not unusual for Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier to work a walk, as he ranks third on Los Angeles with 39 free passes.
What was odd about his first-inning walk on Sunday is that he drew five balls from Phillies starter Joe Blanton before taking first base.

Home-plate umpire Jerry Layne apparently lost track of the count before awarding Ethier first following the fifth ball of the at-bat.

Ethier eventually scored the Dodgers’ first run on James Loney’s RBI single.

no ajay.. not that you’ve posted the article late.. but i mean, i wish torre had said that months ago and stuck to it.. he waits until darn near september to stick to a lineup..

yeah amy.. but once the rosters expand no one will be sitting on the DL.. he’ll keep playing on it as much as they’ll let him, i’m sure..

  78. bluecrewgirl

I agree, Sara. The juggling of the lineup constantly goes all the way back to last season with Grady and I don’t think it’s helped the team at all. I hope Joe sticks to his word this time.

  79. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

well, saw that coming.. hopefully it’ll stay tied and then our offense can come through..

  80. ajay m

I wasn’t watching the game, didn’t Eithier notice that it was ball four and he wasn’t awarded first base?

  81. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

OK… So, who did not see that one coming… Seriously… This is crap. I’m sorry guys, TruBlue, Nelly, anyone who wants to stay positive… This team HAS GOT TO PULL THEIR COLLECTIVE HEADS OUT OF THEIR REARS!!! The chance is there to pick up a game, and they know it… Get the damn job done, and score some more runs for your pitcher who is throwing you a hell of a game! COME ON!

  82. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

i don’t know ajay.. he fouled off quite a few pitches.. he might have just lost track

    From the PHILADELPHIA HOAGY HERALD

“TORRE BENCHES OBI, PIERRE TO POST IN PHILLY SERIES”

PHILADELPHIA—Dodger Manager and Blogger Skipper Joe Torre decided to bench ITD rookie Obi_Wen for the first two games of the Phillies series. “Obi’s a good kid, , but I feel he’s been pressing a bit lately, especially with his Thought Bubbles. Pressed for specifics, Torre stated, “He’s exceeded the 20 line limit, dropped a couple of sure laughs, and lost a joke in the lights. Then he missed a sign from Larry Bowa and submitted an empty post. When he posted a joke thinking that 1998-2008 was a ten year period instead of twenty I told him he needed a break.” Oh yeah, he also needs to cut his dreads.” Torre praised the ITD blog for their insight and baseball acumen and continued, “Before it’s all said and done, we’re going to get contributions from him and the other kids, but I’m really leaning on the veterans of ITD, that is, once I figure out who the heck they are. ” Torre admitted to being flustered by the new usernames on the ITD blog, which has led to his constantly changing the line-up. “Obi said he was okay about not posting, and he’s been cheering for Enchanted, Sara, TruBlue, Dnelly, DodgerEric and the others. But obviously he’s disappointed that I had Juan Pierre take his place. Of course, I wouldn’t want anybody on the blog who certainly was accepting of it. I’d much rather have blogger who wants to post and isn’t posting than the other way around.” Torre concluded by saying Obi may make an appearance as a pinch blogger during the series. For the record, Obi’s onblog posting percentage and quality posts per game were down during the last homestand yet the numbers were still higher than those of Juan Pierre who replaced him.

  84. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

wow brandon, you are about as hot and cold as anyone i’ve ever heard.. it’s obvious how much you care about the boys.. but your positives and your negatives are SO extreme.. you must be so exhausted after watching games or seasons.. haha

  85. oldbrooklynfan

Back from yesterday’s game at Citizens Bank ballpark.
It was a nice day but a rough one sided game as you all know.
The Dodgers seem to play like they are not ready for prime time whenever they play on the road against an eastern division team.

  86. enchantedbeaver

I just want it to be known as a veteran that my recent hot streak blogging has nothing yo do with posting in front of dodgereric.

  87. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

that was also a nice play to keep nomar to a single.. we really could use a bomb right now.. blake for a 2 run bomb or russell for a 3 run bomb.. i’ll take either!!

  88. amyw27

encahnted- I would never make that assumption! you have always been hot through out your career- reguardless of where you are int he order!!!! lol

  89. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Again… WHAT THE HELL ARE WE 1-A GAZILLION WITH HITTERS IN SCORING POSITION!?!?!? ARGH!!

  90. dodgereric

Anyone notice how it gets brighter around here when Oberon sets?

I am dodgereric and I approve of this post.

  91. trublu4ever

Brandon ~ I’m actually agreeing with you so far tonight! Up until now we haven’t executed very well. But, there is still time to get this win. Hey,at least we are not losing.

  92. tradejuanpypaperbag

sara ~ All we need is Wally, and a few others, but this is really good to see for a change ๐Ÿ™‚

  93. oldbrooklynfan

Yes sarahlovesrussell, the first time since they were here at Shea.
I’m planning to see Tuesday nights game in Wash. DC. against the Nats.
I think we got a pretty good chance of beating that team.

  94. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

did manuel just pull blanton because he was scared of pierre? wow, there’s a first for everything..

  95. amyw27

can I just say that watching Dodger games/ sports has bombarded me with too many beer and male enhancement commercials. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ not cool. I do not approve those messages!

  96. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

good for you pierres, i’m glad someone on this blog can benefit from them being on the east coast ๐Ÿ™‚

i know dnelly! we need jhall.. but this is great.. it’s like old times.. everyone on at the same time.. this is when the blog is at it’s best..

  97. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

yeah amy.. everything during sports is catered to men.. don’t they realize how many girls love sports too!

  98. trublu4ever

Amy ~ I’m with you about those ads. Look what happened to Janet Jackson for just showing a little boob. And, they let this stuff on when our children are watching.

  99. amyw27

haha. Yes Trublue- When I’m with my dad we always mute those commercials cause we are soooo sick of them! Totally bad messages!
    .
P.S- Juan got on base 2 nights in a row YEAH JUAN~~ JP Love ๐Ÿ™‚

haha.. did you guys all see donnie baseball’s little white soul patch? it looked weird.. at first, i thought it was drool.. haha

  102. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Great AB by Kemp…. Pierre should be takejn out back for getting picked off…. The damn guy can’t seem to do too much right can he?!?!?!? SABOTAGE!! haha…. I know you guys think I can go from hot to cold really quick. But really, I just am a huge fan of these guys, and have been my whole life, but this has been one of the most frustrating seasons ever. they can’t decide if they want to be very good, a bad… Hitting being on fire means pitching is terrible, and vice versa…. Just a rough year. This all should have been sooo much easier, and we should be about 9 or 10 games over .500 right now…. Oh well, it happens, hopefully we can pull this game out. We can’t afford to keep using days on the calender and wasting chances to make up a game in the standing… Or, we’ll just be watching in October one more time.

  103. enchantedbeaver

This game’s like two months ago. All the pressure on the kids because the pvl’s can’t get it done.

Could Joe and Jon being any more for the Phillies right now – is it too much to ask to be a little bit impartial?
    .
    Nice at bat Andre!!!!

  105. oldbrooklynfan

    This is quite an inning.
Too bad Pierre and Kemp lost their battles but you can’t say that they aren’t trying.
    Good goin’ guys.

  106. bluecrewgirl

I know, Sara. The first time I saw it I wasn’t sure what it was until the camera got up closer on him.

  107. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

dnelly i muted the sound after the first inning because i couldn’t stand it..

  108. northstateblues

Figured we could use a fight song right now. C’MON, LET’S GET ‘EM, BLUE!!!!!!!!!

L.A.! Come Out and Play! (from The Offspring’s “Come Out and Play”)

    When their bats start bashin’
    They’re like a spreading disease
The Blue are strappin’ on the way to the plate
Dispatching pitchers with the greatest of ease

Then times get tough for the Bums of SoCal
The media sees ’em slipping, says “it’s all over, pal”
Kent blows his top, and T.J. grabs his pen
But now he’ll bash it up, bash it up, bash it up, bash it up

“HEEEY! You gonna write that ____ ’bout me?
I’ll take you out!” (You better keep ’em seperated)
HEEEY! Those Phil’s throwin’ at Manny?
Take ’em out! (You better keep ’em seperated)

HEEEY! They’ll get their act in line,
    It’s August 24th, they’re 3 games back, they still have ti-yiii-yime
    L.A.! Come Out and Play!!!

    The veterans are smashing,
    Kent, Manny and Blake
One hits down the middle, the other line drives
And Manny losing pitchers sleep with every mistake

It can’t go down like every year before
No fizzles in September, gotta pump up that score
The Media placing the blue pedestal in the grave
Our Boys will tear ’em up, tear ’em up, tear ’em up, tear ’em up

    HEEEY!! T.J. actin’ up again?
Take ’em out! (You better keep ’em seperated)
HEEEY!! Plaschke drooling on his pen?
Straighten out! (You better keep ’em seperated)
HEEEY!! They’ll get they’re act in line
    It’s August 24th, they’re 3 games back, they still have ti-yii-yime
    L.A.! Come Out and Play!!!

  109. trublu4ever

Dnelly ~ what do you expect fora Giant announcer! And, a former player. Guess what we are on tomorrow too. At least it won’t be Joe & Jon. Thank goodness they only do Sundays

  110. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

It’d be great to have Manny up there with a man on 2nd…. WE NEED TO SCORE MORE RUNS!! That’s just simply going to be my motto for the rest of year I think.

  111. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

haha TrueBlue… I see that… Nice basehit there for Mr. Kent.

WE NEED TO SCORE MORE RUNS!!

    Come on Manny!!

  112. bluecrewgirl

That was a hard earned run. Great at bat by Matt regardless of the outcome. I think all the time it took helped Andre relax so he was patient and didn’t swing at any of those pitches.

  113. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

weird they cut that ball off.. might have been a close play and kent isn’t taking any extra bases..

  114. amyw27

great song nsb! haha I feel like you are in a boyband like -backstreet boys= bsb- -northstateblues= nsb-
    .
    Andre Ethier ๐Ÿ™‚
    .
Good Going Dodgers. Manny- can you please hit again?
    that would be nice!

  115. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Well, I’ll take it for now… Our pen has been horrific lately…

    WE NEED THIS GAME!!

  116. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

hey eric.. are you still around?
my roommate and i are trying to adopt a dog right now.. and one of the dogs listed was named dobie gillis~ thought you’d get a kick out of that.. haha

  117. bluecrewgirl

DNelly, not that I wouldn’t like him to have a higher batting average, which he would if he’d played consistently this season, as long as he (and Matt. Russ and James) are in the lineup every day and we’re wiinning, it’s all good.

  118. trublu4ever

dnelly ~ and, a stolen base for ‘Dre! No speed, huh? Joe and Jon says with Andre’s speed, the throw was too late.

  119. enchantedbeaver

After going back and catching up on the earlier events, I must say I’m proud of the way sara and amy handled the “situation.”

  120. tradejuanpypaperbag

bluecrewgirl – All of his at-bats have been good tonight. Not necessarily the outcome he wants I’m sure, but he hasn’t struck out, and these past few weeks he has really done well against the lefties (being patient and making great contact).

  121. northstateblues

Thanks dnel and amy! I needed to brighten my mood a bit, heh.

And that’s the first time I’ve ever been tcompared to a boy band member, heheh! When it comes to dancing rhythm, I’m more Alex Van Halen than Justin Timberlake.

  122. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

oops.. sorry for the double post..

    great inning by chanho!

come on ‘pen, we need you guys to finish strong!

  123. amyw27

haha NSB. I am from the boy band generation. I am proud to admit that I’ve been to 5 nsync concerts and 4 Justin Timberlake concerts. I think pop, before I think Rock! lol
    .
can they just stop robbing us of hits! I am haviing deja vu here, their defense is reminding me of the Brewer’s defense! blah!

  124. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

This part of our lineup need to wake up!! Nomar, Blake, and Russ Martin, they all need to get it going!!

  125. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

amy, i’m from the boy band generation too.. haha.. but i’ve never been to the concerts..

  126. tradejuanpypaperbag

Amy ~ trublue was a HUGE nsync fan, I mean HUGE!! Our bowling team was named NSync, and we had the coolest shrits too. We even got an award for the best team spirit – Remember that trublue?

  127. northstateblues

This one’s just a snippet I’ve wanted to put out for a while, words just came to me recently, heh.
Chan Ho Park (to the tune of “MacArthur Park” by Richard Harris)

Chan Ho Park is frightening in the dark, all the Phillies batters going down
Crusing through the 7th like a train
Jayson Werth just couldn’t shake it
    Ruiz and Feliz out, frustrated
And the Phillies boo-birds yelling out again… “OH NO!!!”

  128. tradejuanpypaperbag

Amy ~ trublue was a HUGE nsync fan, I mean HUGE. Our bowling team was even named nsync, and when we went to the state tournament ,we won a prize for most spirited because our outfits were fabulous!!! Remember that trublue?

  129. amyw27

WOW. Trublue/Dnelly- That is soooo cool. I am proud ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m sure those are some happy memories.
    .
Sara- you sure are the same generation- if we were friends I would’ve dragged you out to some concerts ๐Ÿ™‚ Im such a good friend ๐Ÿ™‚ lol

  130. northstateblues

I was a bit before the boy band era, I guess I was more the Alternative 90’s era. I’m handy with a Strat, but no good when it comes to dancing. funny, since I guess “Latinos” are supposed to be good dancers, heh.

  131. vl4ecc

Sounds like the boo birds are out in Philly. Getting on Rollins there. With such fans, I still can’t figure why they’re called the ‘City of Brotherly Love.’ Go figure.

  132. amyw27

Those NSYNC years were seriously the best years of my life. In high school, carefree, all I had to worry about what going to concerts and being a ‘super fan’. I see these kids now with the Jonas brothers getting hyterical and happy and I totally know how they feel.
    .
I least I still have JT ๐Ÿ™‚ I love him dearly!!

  133. tradejuanpypaperbag

Nice start to that one nsblues – great classic song!
    .
enchanted – It’s been a while for good reason I know, but it’s really good to see you on here. Your sense of humor is definitely missed.

  134. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

well vl, he did call them fair-weather fans..

oh amy, you and me at an NSYNC concert = priceless

  135. vl4ecc

My favorites are ” It’s a cross between Kentucky Blue, and California Sensamilla. Cough! Cough! It’s a little harsh.” & ” “The last time I saw a mouth like that, it had a hook in it!”

  136. trublu4ever

northstatesblues ~ I was really too old, age wise to be a fan of the boy bands, but I got hooked on the music. I guess I’m just a kid at heart!

  137. amyw27

Sara- my favorite thing about you is your extreme energy. That paired with my extreme energy….totally out of control fun!
    lol. I love it.

  138. bluecrewgirl

Trueblue, you and Amy have a good attitude about life. I am trying to take things more in stride lately, which is hard for me, but better for my health in the long run.

C’mon Brox, we need this game.

  139. trublu4ever

bluecrewgirl ~ I used to be stressed about everything and I found that it made me a very unhappy person. As time passed, I decided to let things ride and, it was much better.
It’s much better to laugh than sit around and mope.

  140. amyw27

bluecrew- thank you for your kind words. Don’t be overwhelmed. I am the first person to get stressed out too. But I identify what makes me happy, simple things, like the Dodgers, or Disney, music and I run with it. They may lose, but just seeing them makes me happy everyday.
    .
If Werth gets a clutch hit I will be mad!!!

  141. northstateblues

bluecrewgirl, I hear you there. I know that for me, liking too many LA sports teams can’t be good for my blood pressure, heh.

  142. amyw27

bluecrew- find your happiness in the little things. and listen to Christina Aguliera’s
“Singing My Song” it’s worth it, I promise ๐Ÿ™‚
    .
one things that makes me happy are rainbow sprinkles. It sounds funny and stupid but rainbow sprinkles, on ice cream, yougurt, whatever. it’s just a little thing and it really makes me happy. lol. viva los sprinkles!!!!! Don’t stress the big things, appreciate having the small things!!!

  143. bluecrewgirl

Thanks for the advice everyone. Northstate, I can feel my chest getting tight, lol. We have to win this game.

  144. amyw27

Heck Ya, Disney is the best. I probably go to Disneyland as much as I go to Dodger Stadium. And the good thing is that Disneyland is open all year long, the dodgers leave me inthe fall and winter ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  145. amyw27

well- the good Kuroda came out today. And with that, the bad Broxton
    .
OMG, I am sad. The Dodgers fail to win in xtra innings this year!!! please get this out!!

  146. northstateblues

My family used to always coincide a trip to Dodger Stadium with a trip to Disneyland. The two are like the same to me.

  147. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

at least we can count on jimmy rollins’ slump to continue to help us this weekend..

  148. enchantedbeaver

Think we have to face facts that without a real closer, we’re going to give back too many games down the stretch. That’s 4 in the last two weeks.

  149. oldbrooklynfan

    Another blown save for Broxton.
I think his pitches are too easy to hit and also he over throws to much. He has very little control of his fast ball IMO.

  150. boblee14@yahoo.com

Well, that sucks. We blew it. Can’y see us winning this game. Broxton all over the place. Yea Manny.

  151. jungar@wsgcorp.com

Broxton is pitching hurt is my guess. I bet it comes out soon. He is not throwing the slider and as Pierre says above has no control of the fastball.

  152. edwcarter

Good call Enchanted. We can’t catch up if we can’t close a game. The Giants series was a classic example of our inability to close.

  153. bluecrewgirl

I wish Wade could put on some bulk and add a few mph to his fastball because I think he would make a great closer and Brox is a good set up man.

Honestly nells, this team was much easier to take the losing with when management didn’t give us the promise (by that I mean hope) of actually making the playoffs. It seems both the kids and the PVLs have reverted back to June.

  156. amyw27

jungar- because the Dodgers are super awesome, win or lose. They are our team no matter what .We love them dearly.
The Angels- that is a sell out to like a better team. We are blue, thru and thru ๐Ÿ™‚ You know it, and you feel it!!!

  157. boblee14@yahoo.com

I can’t F****** believe that. What a sorry way to lose this game. We can never get timely hits. We suck when the pressure is on.

  158. enchantedbeaver

Let’s look at the bright side… when they don’t make the playoffs, Ned’s gone.

Also, I recant my want to sign Blake – that’s 5 times now that I’ve been watching him come up with the based loaded and less than two outs, and not one time has he driven in a run.

  159. tradejuanpypaperbag

LMAO! Eric – what’s funny about that is you got two movies in one line with the same actor. Chevy Chase says the line in Caddyshack, and he’s son’s name in vacation is Russ – ๐Ÿ™‚

  160. amyw27

This is crazy. It should have been ours from the start with the first run scored. but, no. We torture ourselves by leaving guys on base and forcing extra innings where we end up handing the game over to the other team.

  161. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

OK you guys… This one’s for all of the people who tell me to stay positive during this stretch…. The proof was really in the puddin during that last inning…. If they lose this game, they should just pack it up and go home… No reason to even finish the road trip, or try to catch AZ…. BECAUSE THIS TEAM IS REALLY NOT VERY GOOD AND DOES NOT CARE WORTH A DAMN!!

  162. edwcarter

I really don’t think that Ned will be fired if we don’t make the playoffs. As you said before Enchanted…Frank doesn’t possess much more baseball knowledge than a casual observer. And he will think Ned made every effort he could to save the Dodgers this season.

  163. leamans@mail.lincoln.leon.k12.fl.us

Josh must be happy about his ThinkCure auction……over $1500 with a few minutes left!!!

  164. oldbrooklynfan

With such a great bullpen, Why is Broxton the closer?
I think Torre better start using somebody else in that roll.

  165. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

eric, i mentioned dobbie gillis, not amy ๐Ÿ™‚
we’re not actually looking to adopt dobbie gillis, just noticed him because of the name.. haha.. we’re looking for a smaller house puppy..

  166. amyw27

but I know.. we are soo alike ๐Ÿ™‚ lol
    .
2 girls that rock… ok I am saying strange things now cause this game is shorting out my brain :-[

  167. tradejuanpypaperbag

lbirken ~ I got the jersey – A very good cause and a jersey to go with it. I won’t have a Christmas or a birthday for years to come, but hey, you only live once, and I think this is one of the best things the Dodgers do.

  168. amyw27

awwww pobrecito eric! We love you a lot. you can’t be prefect- you’ve gotta aspire to it, unlike the Dodgers tonight.

  169. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

    it’s alright eric ๐Ÿ˜‰
if you mix me up with anyone, i’m happy that it was amy~

  170. tradejuanpypaperbag

Eric ~ I might have to put that one up, I think. I could see me wearing it to Dodger Stadium only. I already have one, so I will wear that one whenever.

  171. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

All that I am going to say is that the difference between a team that gives a damn, contends, plays hard and wins…. That one play that just happened sums it all up….. Phils will win, we will continue to stroll through the season… FRUSTRATED!!!! FREAKING TEAM SUCKS!! goodnight all.

  172. lbirken@aol.com

Nelly, I bought a Steve Garvey autographed jersey on one of these auctions some years ago. As I recall they had two of them and I paid about the same price you did for Ethier. I kept it stored for a long time but my wife was nice enough to finally get it framed (big bucks for that) and we have it on the wall in our den.

Thanks for the suggestion lbirken. I will probably get it framed. I already have a jersey that I wear, and I also have a bear signed by him as well. I have a baseball, and I believe I have all of his baseball cards to date, including both rookie cards (A’s/Dodgers) the two with him wearing 61 instead of 16, and all the normal ones, too. So, I can make it into a very nice display with all of those items. If I ever get the chance to have something else signed, I am going to get the ABC book signed. I would have him sign the page his wife, Maggie, illustrated. My students love that book, but I would buy another one for the classroom and save the signed one for collection.

  176. jungar@wsgcorp.com

Does anyone think this team even deserves to be in the post season. My gosh. It’s last year all over again.

  177. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

yeah dodgereric, or the basesloaded, no out situation in the top of the 10th that we squandered..

  178. amyw27

this is when I turn the computer off and wont log on until tomorrow.
    .
way too sad for me. a 4 hour investment for nothing. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
    .
    goodbye. Hasta Manana!

  179. lbirken@aol.com

My daughter has a Shawn Green jersey that she was able to get signed. I told her she could no longer wear it so we got her another jersey to wear.

  180. enchantedbeaver

You know, the last time the D’s won was the year I got a divorce from #1. Hmmmm…… 1988…2008…
    .
    .
    I’ll be back in a minute… Yo Bi….

  181. trublu4ever

Boy, I just don’t know what to say. You all did such a good job of expressing how I feel right now. It really hurts to lose a game in this manner. I just have to hope things will get better before we are behind more than we are right now.

  182. trublu4ever

Ibirken ~ I think Shawn Green was a classy guy when he played for the Dodgers. I’m sorry to see him retired from baseball.

  183. mccheap

Alrigth guys ive been an observer for too long now but this latest lost has brougth me to this point..ive been a dodger fan for 25 yrs now..which i all my life..i for once have had it with this crap..20 longg years of pain…Franky mccourt talks about tradition and doing it the doger way?..What does he know about the dodger way..his a red sox fan..colleti?…enough said with him..and torre?..a yankee..u guys get the point..this organization has no direction..and it starts from the top…im tired tired tired of this bull c*ap.thanks guys =)

  184. dodgereric

No sweat, griz! If you can’t vent here, you can’t vent anywhere! Welcome to the all-night nuthouse! Ever see Caddyshack?

Hey baby, you must’ve been something before electricity.

  185. enchantedbeaver

Anytime grizzly – that’s what we’re here for!!!
    .

Well that and to say, “My niece has a certain zest for living.”

  186. kpookiemon

Wow…this team reminds of a very average, break-even team…OH WAIT——-it IS a .500 team. These guys want to win, they just can’t seem to. They’re playing hard, in spite of how it looks or what some people think, but this team is what it is. Very shakey relief, zero bench, inconsistent starting pitching, pathetic hitting with RISP. There’s no goat tonight. Just a nice, tidy team loss. And Grandpa Joe, you’ve got this team losing as many as they win. You’re no better than Jim Tracy, Glenn Hoffman, and Grady Little.

  187. trublu4ever

Oh, no. Not Caddyshack!! What amazes me about the movie is how different the original is from the stupid one they show on televison. Censors sure take out all of the good stuff. It’s almost like a different movie.

  188. lbirken@aol.com

I don’t think the Dodger’s troubles this season have anything to do with desire or effort; it has to do with execution and consistency. What happened to those great at bats we saw a few weeks ago when it appeard the Dodgers were ready to make a move? What happened to the energy and excitement Manny brought to the team? How can an entire team go into hitting slumps at the same time so often in one season? And how can we expect to win games when we can’t close them?

  189. enchantedbeaver

“Hey, doll. Could you scare up another round for our table over here? And tell the cook this is low grade dog food. I’ve had better food at the ballgame, you know? This steak still has marks from where the jockey was hitting it.”

  190. bluecrewgirl

I loved that movie. I have a good memory overall, but I don’t have a very good memory for movie dialogue.

  191. northstateblues

I was watching the Olympic closing ceremonies, but I flipped just in time to see that #@$#@Q#$$% Feliz hammer the ball dead center. There are worse things than losing to the Phillies… but we had them.

    I’ll be back later.

  192. dodgereric

I want you to kill every gophers on the golf course!

Correct me if I’m wrong Sandy, but if I kill all the golfers, they’re gonna lock me up and throw away the key…

  193. trublu4ever

dodgereric ~ he doesn’t know. I have to make sure my husband doesn’t say anything to him! Hey, what he doesn’t know, can’t hurt him, right? LOL

  194. tradejuanpypaperbag

LMAO!!! I am still here Ward Dear!! Like you, it will be a Christmas gift and a birthday gift for the year.

  195. tradejuanpypaperbag

Correct me if I’m wrong Sandy, but if I kill all the golfers, they’re gonna lock me up and throw away the key…

  196. mccheap

i feel that logan white should be our man next year…..maybe we can even bring in a real dodger to coach this team that hapens to coach south of us..

  197. tradejuanpypaperbag

trublue – he does know now. I told him because of what you said about Mr. trublue. I just was going to wait until the right time, but they talk to each other every day so I had to.

“I smell varmint ********. And the only good varmint ******** is dead varmint ********, I think.”

  199. trublu4ever

dnelly ~ He’s not angry, is he? I wouldn’t have said anything to your dad if I knew hubby didn’t know.

  200. enchantedbeaver

A good buddy of mine loved Caddyshack, so I’ve seen it a few times. Brings back some good memories.

Its much better than the little voices I hear in my head after each Dodger game lately.

  201. tradejuanpypaperbag

bluecrewgirl ~ I bid on it yesterday for the first time, and then I got out bid this morning, and I was willing to go to a certain amount. I got about bid with 5 minutes left. Whoever came on and mentioned Josh’s prompted me to look at the jersey, and I had been outbid, so I did the final bid I could go, and hoped for the best.
    .
I was going to try a class project to raise money for this cause also. I think that would be something the students would like to do. We have a Valley Children’s Hospital in Fresno, so I would probably give half to them and half to “Think Cure”.

  202. trublu4ever

enchanteS ~ I like the movie too. But, I don’t know the lines word for word. I’m better with television.

  203. juniorvarsity

all hail manny!! i could have held shane to a single!! manny is not worth the **** on my ***..mr 100 million for 4 yrs…yea right. and i hate mccourt and his no-knowledge of baseball and mr. dodger tradition..blow me mccourt. this organization is a ******* joke….sell the team mccourt!!! please that is all i want either that or for al campanis to return from the dead…

lets face it tommy is getting old, vin is getting old, the tradition is dying..they are dying…and everyone they gave their dodger knowledge to, are using that knowledge on other teams…it is almost dead. soon all there will be is a green house that costs 30 dollars to park in a ****** parking lot…but dont worry plenty of mermories…yea that i dont ******* have im only 19!!!***** you ************** you

  204. bluecrewgirl

That’s a great idea about your class project. Glad you got the jersey. I am so bummed about this loss. The other games we were out of early, but we should have won this one. I hope Joe sticks with the lineup like he said. Andre scored both our runs tonight and had a hit, so hopefully he will be in there again tomorrow.

  205. tradejuanpypaperbag

Trublue – no, not at all!! If anything, we can put it in a display case and put it in the sports academy. Like I told lbirken, I have all of this other memorabilia of his. It could make for a very nice display. Dad could get a jersey signed by Brian :), and that would be fun too.

  206. tradejuanpypaperbag

Cinderella story. Outta nowhere. A former greenskeeper, now, about to become the Masters champion. It looks like a mirac… It’s in the hole! It’s in the hole! It’s in the hole!

  207. dodgereric

And you’re just the man to do it, e!!!

“I’ve sentenced boys younger than you to the gas chamber. Didn’t want to do it. I felt I owed it to them.”

  208. dodgereric

Her mother sent her to us for the summer.

Must be a nice change from dreary old Manhattan.

Yes I was really getting tired of having fun all the time.

  209. tradejuanpypaperbag

I’m going to give you a little advice. There’s a force in the universe that makes things happen. And all you have to do is get in touch with it, stop thinking, let things happen, and be the ball.

  210. enchantedbeaver

    Too funny eric!!

Well, I guess I should hit it. Dodgers are kinda like that **** in the pool right now – just floatin’ along.

  211. tradejuanpypaperbag

    So let’s dance!
    .
Time for gopher dance!!!!! I like the gopher dancing, and it would be great to see Grambo dance too – LMAO!!!! That still makes me laugh – I like Grambo – LMAO!!!!

  212. dodgereric

Enchanted, sir, you have yourself a wonderful nights’ sleep! And if we get swept tomorrow, it’s gonna hafta be……

Work, work, work, work, work, work, hello boys! Have a nice rest? I missed you!

  213. tradejuanpypaperbag

Good night, enchanted. Glad to see you tonight. Blazing Saddles for sure tomorrow if we lose, but we are going to remain positive that we will win, right?

  214. dodgereric

I’m always positive we’re going to win, nelly! At least, until we don’t. And then, I get over it a lot quicker than I used to.

  215. trublu4ever

Dnelly & dodgereric ~ I think I’m going to call it a night, too. I’ll visit with you tomorrow. Pleasant dreams!

  216. jungar@wsgcorp.com

Bravo post Grizzly!!!!!!! For us fans in our mid 30s who saw winning…Let’s put it this way if u were born in LA most likely u were/are also a fan of the lakers. I mean who dosen’t like it when your city wins ..But, The Dodgers are basically the Clippers to people in their 20’s like Grizzly. That’s just brutal. The Angles (sorry everyone, but its true) are the lakers basically- to a lesser extent

  217. tradejuanpypaperbag

Eric – definitely you are!! I wasn’t referring to any of us really. I was just making a general statement about us as an ITD group as a whole. I am not really mad about it. I think I am just more realistic about it. Most of us knew the Phillies in Philly wasn’t going to be easy, so I am not sure why people have got this “it’s so over” attitude. We are only 3 games out, and yes, we still may not make it, but then again, we just might. Until we still start seeing magic numbers start to appear in the standings, then there is still time. And eric, I really don’t think it’s about our boys not trying. Even Jonathon was trying – it just wasn’t his night. I don’t like the attitude that people think the Dodgers players aren’t trying to win. I think it can’t be further from the truth. They are probably trying too hard at times, and pushing it too much. (IMO of course)

  218. tradejuanpypaperbag

It’s weird calling you trublue, especially when eric, jhall and enchanted call you and I mom and mom II – LOL!!!

  219. trublu4ever

I’m with you dnelly. I tried to say the same thing the other day and got my head bitten off. You know they are trying. Maybe trying too hard. They have to relax and be loose.

  220. trublu4ever

Okay, now we are getting silly. I will leave you with your late night bloggers. Closing ceremonies are over and now I can watch something good on T.V. Good night again – jungar got me fired up for a while.

  221. tradejuanpypaperbag

Baseball talk – wouldn’t you like to know what was said after that fact about Andre’s 5 ball walk tonight? I don’t think I have ever seen that happen at the professional level. I mean, at the time, it worked out, Andre still got his walk, but what if he hadn’t and got out instead, can you question it? Isn’t there an official scorebook that has 5 balls and 2 strikes?

  222. dodgereric

Now hold on thar, jungar. I tend to agree with most everything you say, but even though you qualify it at the end, donโ€™t go saying the Dodgers are the Clippers or the Angels are the Lakers.

Granted, the Angels have out-performed us lately, but for all of that, they are still stuck on 1 Series victory in 57 years. And that one was 6 years ago now. Thatโ€™s a long, long way from the Lakers achievements.

And Iโ€™ll not stand for being equated with the Clippers. Although we have only a couple of division titles to call our own for the last 20 years, weโ€™ve contended for a few others. And weโ€™ve finished last only once since 1905. I donโ€™t think the Clippers can say that.

I truly wish your statement was totally ludicrous. Itโ€™s not. I wish I had more ammo to fire. I donโ€™t. Since Oโ€™Malley sold us off, itโ€™s been bad. Embarrasing at times. But not โ€œClipper badโ€. Never that.

  223. tradejuanpypaperbag

Sorry – I am a Kings fan, so I have no comment ๐Ÿ™‚ All I know is I love my Kings in good times and bad just like I do the Dodgers and the Redskins. However, I do wish we had Mike Scoscia, then all would be good.

  224. bluecrewgirl

Goodnight everyone. If we can just take the game tomorrow, I think we have an excellent chance to sweep the Nationals and then we play the D-Backs after that. It’s time to get back on the winning track. I agree DNelly, we are still in it and we have to keep the faith.

  225. mccheap

well it’s been a rough day guys, wish i could say will get umm tomorrow but i can’t. I dont know about you guys but you can only hold on to so much hope…boy where have our dodgers gone…20 f*cking years and where here hoping just to make the playoffs…lol…lke an earlier blogger said before..all the true dodgers are getting old..(tommy, vinny)..whats are we going to be left with once there gone?..Mccourt?..what does he know about dodger baseball..he needs to ship his *** back to boston..goodnigth all

  226. dodgereric

Junie, going back a few posts, I wouldn’t think that anyone good enough to make it to the bigs wouldn’t be trying their best. Brox didn’t try to walk that nobody in the ninth any more than Blake tried to hit into that DP in the tenth or Johnson threw that gopher on purpose. There are 25 guys on the other side of the field that are trying to win, too. Sometimes the truth is that we’re just not good enough.

  229. tradejuanpypaperbag

OF COURSE NOT!! I am certainly not giving up on them, and I won’t until they say “see you in February.”

  230. northstateblues

I’m not gonna lose hope in the franchise, but I feel that, Grizzly. As a Lakers fan, I always felt a Boston owner in Los Angeles is a somewhat shaky marriage.

I once had the pleasure to speak with a family member of one of the Dodgers legends (no longer directly linked with the team, but I don’t want to sell anyone out here). This was in 2004, and I asked him what he thought about McCourt getting the team. He asked “Well, what do YOU think?” I said that although he seems sincere, I don’t know how a Real Estate guy who took out loans to buy the team would be able to run a big market ballclub. In so many words, he said that was the sentiment he’s heard from the baseball circles.

I know McCourt wants to do good, he wants the team to win championships, and he’s primping and preening Dodger Stadium for the day when they can call themselves World Champions again. But if a sticking point for midseason trades is the amount of money that translated into sending Carlos Santana to Cleveland (whom I know nothing about personally, but the chatters’ been good), in a year when there’s pressure not only to make October, but excell there, I have to wonder how he expects to craft continous winning teams when he’s pulling purse strings with one hand and stirring the front office pot with the other.

That being said, McCourt has made a long-term commitment to owning the Dodgers, and I think he’ll eventually get a Championship or two (or 5) in the next 25 years. Hopefully he surrounds himself with the right baseball people to get the job done, somewhere between DePodesta’s slide rule tactics and Colletti’s high-mileage Proven Veteran Leaders.

After all, what good to him is having the Next-50-Years-Plan Dodger Stadiumland if he doesn’t have a Championship-caliber team filling the place with trophies?

  231. tradejuanpypaperbag

Win or lose games from here on out, I am just very impressed on how well the young players have matured this year, especially under the circumstances that they have been put in, especially our two outfielders, Matt and Andre. It has been nothing but competition for them all year, and to see where they were and where they are now. It’s remarkable!

  232. northstateblues

sadly, I don’t know enough caddyshack quotes, heh. All I know off the bat are “na na na na na”, “be the ball”, and “DOODIE!!!!!”

  233. northstateblues

I’m not throwing in the towel, I go down with the ship! (which has been a lot lately). This is still doable.

  234. dodgereric

That’s right Deb! And isn’t that exactly what so many of us have been saying all year? How exciting is it to watch these guys improve? Now if we can only make the right moves even HALF the time from now on instead of virtually 100% wrong.

  235. northstateblues

    heheheh.

Yeah, Colletti’s luck has been terrible. 50% would be an improvement on his end next year, if he’s still with us.

  236. tradejuanpypaperbag

I think many have forgotten how we were looking at things at the beginning of the year – A young team’s development and Ned’s head, now matter how it happens.

  237. dodgereric

June Darlin’, I’ve had a long and tiring day. It would have been worse but for the company of good friends here to share in the agony of defeat and the following laughter that cleanses the soul.

Good night and God Bless! See you tomorrow.

  238. tradejuanpypaperbag

I have too. I am tired, and I have another long week ahead of me. Good Night Ward Dear – see you tomorrow

  239. tradejuanpypaperbag

nsblues – now you get it? It’s been very annoying to say the least, and it seemed like we got a little reprieve from it tonight.

  240. tradejuanpypaperbag

Ward Dear – nsblues was wondering about Oberon so I was filling him in on the subject matter ๐Ÿ™‚
    .
Good Night everyone – until the morning!!!

  241. lny4loney

Just finished watching the game on my DVR. Three comments:
    .
    1) First example of the negative part of “Manny Being Manny”.
    .
    2) Somebody should punch Joe Morgan in the mouth.
    .
    3) *&@#*!!!!!

  242. dodgereric

    Goooooooood morning, ITD!!!

    MLK says:
    1) First example of the negative part of “Manny Being Manny”.
Reaction: Although it didn’t affect the game, it sure COULD have. It would have been nice to see a foot-plant and at least an ATTEMPT at a strong throw.

    2) Somebody should punch Joe Morgan in the mouth.
Reaction: I’ll second that. Followed immeadiately with another to Miller.

    3) *&@#*!!!!!
Reaction: That’s why we have “ITD At The Movies”.

  243. trublu4ever

dodgereric ~ good morning to you too. I agree with everything you said, especially *@#*!!!. Many things affected last night’s game including the Manny throw. My biggest problem next to Morgan & Miller, was not letting Kuo finish the game. Sometimes Joe outhinks himself. I just read where Andruw is playing first base — apparently because he tweaked his knee again. James better look out!

  244. trublu4ever

Also read were Joe just want the guys to show up right before game time tonight and just go out and have some fun. He also doesn’t expect any roster moves. I hear rumors there might be one in the making.

  245. tradejuanpypaperbag

Good Morning Ward Dear!! I hope you got a good night’s rest, and are ready for a Monday work day..
    .
mlk/lny4loney – I didn’t see the Manny being Manny play, and I would love to see somebody punch ethier (either) one of those two out (talk about a one-sided announcing job). Also, the movie night did tend to get rid of the #$%@%^ feeling. Have a great day, and it’s great to see your name on here again, even though it’s not really your REAL name.

  246. enchantedbeaver

    Morning All!!

lny4loney – now your name reminds me of cuckoo for cocoa puffs. LOL

There appears to be too many things this team lacks – competent closer, ability to win on the road, hitting even minimally with RISP… but when its all said and done, the season ultimately rests squarely on Torre’s shoulders. The kids have performed admirably given Joe’s constant meddling and have grown, and with the late season acquisitions, even Ned can get somewhat of a pass. This team is too talented to be doing what they’re doing.

    Fire Joe.
Fire the guy that hired Joe.

    Good Morning trublue!!!
    .
I have got to go to work. I will check in when I can the opportunity arises. Have a fabulous day!
GO DODGER BLUE ~ WE LOVE YOU!!!

  251. dodgereric

Bluto: What the *%$# happened to the Delta I used to know? Where’s the spirit? Where’s the guts, huh? “Ooh, we’re afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble.” Well just kiss my *** from now on! Not me! I’m not gonna take this. Wormer, he’s a dead man! Marmalard, dead! Niedermeyer…
Otter: Dead! Bluto’s right. Psychotic, but absolutely right. We gotta take these $@#%$^%s. Now we could do it with conventional weapons that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody’s part.
Bluto: We’re just the guys to do it.

  252. tradejuanpypaperbag

Ward Dear…Take what out on the kids? The Dodgers losing or the fact that I spent what I spent on an Ethier Jersey? LOL!! (jk) No, I figure with the Dodgers losing, I still have faith in the players, I always have (it’s management that is hard to believe in sometimes). As far as the jersey, I would have paid a certain price for a signed jersey anyway, and I figure the rest just went to one of the best charities imaginable. So, all is good ๐Ÿ™‚
    .
Good Morning, messagebear!! Glad to see you still have your full name. I love the post!! Have a wonderful day!!!

  253. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Ok Ladies and Gentlemen… Today, I go back to school, working on getting a Marketing Degree…. I’ll be working full time, and going to school full time. Ahhh, the life of an almost 27 year old who waited to get his butt back in gear. Anyway, my point being that, I’m going to stop caring so much about any of this… It is after all, only a game, a game that my favorite team should be much better at, but for what it’s worth, it really does not look like they are all that good. they’ve constantly been made fun of by the media for being a .500 team, they’ve lacked any kind of leadership throughout the season, they’ve not had clutch hitting at all, when Saito went down the bullpen collapsed, our bench is horid, the starting pitching is hit or miss, along with our bats. The Dodgers have been doomed ever since Raffy went down and we had no substitue for him in the lineup, we continued to field injury proned, old vets. The younger guys are starting to get it figured out, but they’re still not quite there, and whos to say they will ever get all the way there. All in all, I’m just saying, I’ve got more important things to worry about. I wish the Dodgers luck on the rest of this season, and hopefully they can pull it out…. If not, I will be like most of you and begin to be excited about Spring Training. That is after all what seems to happen with this team year after year…. You’ve got to get excited about the next season, because the one that’s going on is ALWAYS underachieved. Thanks for you guys being such loyal Dodger fans, they need it in a time like this… Toough way to end a season. One thing I want to remind everyone that is comparing Torre to Jim Tracy and Grady Little…. Jim Tracy won 92 games twice, and Grady Little won 88. Both of those managers got us to the post season… All be it, they were also underachievers, but they accomplished it with much less talent on their rosters…. So, anyway, I’m done now…. You guys all take it easy, this is it for me for a long time I think…. Not sure what exactly a long time is… Could be a week, who knows… But Nelly, TrueBlue, Enchanted, Dodgereric, you guys all keep on keepin’ on… Take it easy all.

    GO DODGERS!!

  254. dodgereric

    Just a joke, darlin’! ๐Ÿ™‚

I congratulated you on the jersey yesterday, but I neglected to congratulate you on the most important thing – your donation. Well done Debra! I’m proud of you!

  255. trublu4ever

brandon ~ best of luck with your career. If you are as passionate about your job as you are about the Dodgers, you’ll be fantastic. It has been fun sparring with you and I really hope your job won’t take you away from us permanently. You must check in with us from time to time.

  256. enchantedbeaver

I don’t know what they’ve done to this blog program, but I’m having to sign in 5-6 times a day even though I never sign out.

Goodluck with school Brandon!! Yes, there’s a little masochism in all of us for being Dodger fans.

I know Josh has to put a positive spin on the team’s situation, but looking at what the D’s have to win even if the Snakes go 17-16 are very sobering.

    FOOD FIGHT!!!

  257. enchantedbeaver

And Manny being Manny on Victorino’s double last night is exactly why I’d rather see the D’s spend their offseason money on Sabathia.

Also, how about they switch Marty to third and sign I-Rod for a year or two? You’d get better D behind the plate (Russ is making far too many errors for a catcher, and his pct. throwing out runners is bad), and Blake, well… I don’t know what it is about donning a D’s uniform, but it instantly turns good hitters into pathetic PVLs. I’ve yet to see Blake do anything with the bases loaded. That’s 5 times now (that I’ve been watching the game) with the bases juiced and less than two outs and he’s driven in zero.

    OK, I’m done.

brandon, great post! I agree with most of it, except for giving up on the season. We can take advantage of this weak division and go places if we can just put it together and get hot for a few weeks. Remember 1988! I know, rose-colored glasses and all that, but that’s the way I choose to look at it. I can’t do it any other way until we’re mathmatically eliminated.

Good luck going back to school, you’re to be commended for that! One piece of advice: when you’re writing out your assignments, DON’T LOCK YOUR CAPS!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  259. trublu4ever

enchanted ~ I always have to sign in unless I leave my computer on hibernate or sleep mode. I never sign out, either. I just can’t give up on our season yet. I know it is very frustrating right now. But look at what Eric says about our division — very weak, indeed!

  260. messagebear@msn.com

In defense of Brox, he’s still a very young guy to be a premier closer. Not many that I can think of have achieved a quick and early success as a closer. If I remember last year correctly, Brox had a lot of difficulty at the end of the season, and he just may be getting tired with the innings that he’s pitched and the number of times he’s warmed up. After all, he’s throwing nearly 100 mph and maybe should adjust at a somewhat lower speed on his pitches.

I think that Kamp, Ethier, Bills, and Loney have all had successful years, no matter how the final standings come out, so there is a lot of good to expect in the future. I’m somewhat disappointed in Martin, not so much with his average, but what seems to be a letdown in his throwing from behind the plate. I think he’s also showing being tired, and no wonder, regardless of how much he thinks that he should be playing every game. It’s too bad that we don’t have at least a “decent” second catcher to provide him relief without giving up the game.

The guys who have completely disappointed this season are Andruw and Penny, with Pierre being his expected underachiever and Lowe his .500 at best pitcher, which doesn’t cut it as any kind of an Ace. Furcal, of course, is another matter, but something like that happens to all the clubs.

Ned is in a league all by himself when it comes to incompetence, and it can only be hoped that this is his final season in any responsible capacity in the major leagues. Torre is just Torre, and he should have been left alone after New York. We clearly need a different kind of manager than the Tracy, Grady and Torre types. Gibson comes to mind. Frank is probably the least equipped owner in the major leagues. I wish he could borrow some brains besides all the money he had to borrow, or at the very least he should have the sense to hire some brains. So far he hasn’t done that.

Ward Dear…Thank you, and I know you were joking – you know I think you are wonderful!! Like I have said before, you and my husband are very much alike, and it’s a very good thing (scary sometimes, but very, very good). You are both genuine, caring people, and you will do anything for your family. Also, like trublue once said, enchanted and jhall seem like brothers at times because we all think so much alike. There’s a reason the four of us connected the way we did (not to mention trublue now), but only God knows the reason. It will be interesting to see how his plan unfolds someday. ๐Ÿ™‚
    .
Brandon – good luck on your first day of school.
    .
    Be back in a while!!

  262. enchantedbeaver

No worries Tru – haven’t given up, but am looking at it realistically. 21-12 (now 21-11) is a daunting task for this team (and especially manager.)

  263. dodgereric

    Nice post bear, as usual!

enchanted, I’ve been wondering all season about the possibility of moving Russ to 2nd eventually. He’s a lot like Craig Biggio, after all. Do you (or anyone) know much about Lucas May? I see he’s not hitting much for Jax this season after a great A season last year. How is his defense?

What do you think of the possibility of getting K-Rod? He’s a FA, and to the casual observer, the contract talks have been a little testy over there.

I am big on Sabathia. If we don’t make him a very competitive offer, I’ll be very disappointed.

If we don’t resign Ramirez it won’t break my heart, but we sure need a bopper in left. I can’t remember, is Holiday a FA or does he still have a year to go?

  264. enchantedbeaver

Holliday still lhas a year to go, so he won’t be a FA until 2010. The only other “bopper” is Dunn, and we don’t want to go there.

Martin would probably be fine at either 2B or 3B, but he’d have to learn the DP pivot in spring and on the job if he goes to 2B. DeWitt’s an alternative at either spot.

I’m thinking if you sign I-Rod, he plays 2/3 behind the plate, Marty takes 1/4 and Ardoin is capable of handling 1/12. You’ll get better D out of catcher that way and not lose any offense.

K-Rods getting a lot of press this year, but I’m not 100% sold on him. We do forget that Brox and Kuo are young and don’t have the mental toughness needed for an everyday closer. I’d just like to see JoJo stick with a guy that’s getting outs and bring back the days of a 2-inning save. When Kuo’s lights out, I can’t see any reason from taking him out. That’s JoJo overmanaging and out-thinking himself. Same went with Brox when he was Saito’s set-up man. When he was blowing away the hitters earlier in the year, why take him out? It would’ve given him some valuable experience closing (which he sorely needs now) and perhaps saved Saito’s arm. Joe gets stuck on streotypes – Pierre’s a lead-off man, Sweeney’s a PH, and you have to bring your “closer” in in the 9th.

  265. lny4loney

brandon, good luck with your education and career. I understand your feelings about getting a “late” start in your education. Take my word for it, 27 is far from old or even old enough to woryy about falling behind. There is some wisdom in the words of Boston’s “Peace of Mind”:
    .
    I understand about indecision
But I don’t care if I get behind
    People livin’ in competition
All I want is to have my peace of mind.
    .
Brox — He’s learning how to be a closer and not surprisingly he’s had some bad moments in the process. I continue to believe he will be a terrific closer for many years.
    .
messagebear — You are too kind to Pierre (sorry Amy). The fact of the matter is that even by Pierre standards he sucks this year. His OBP is at an all-time low (.325 as of today), and he has become even more of a Punch-and-Judy hitter than in the past (just 11 extra-base hits this year compared to mid-30s most of his career).
    .
2008 — Best-case scenario: This team has enough to go all the way if 1) we can overcome JoJo and 2) we catch a break or two in the postseason. Worst-case scenario: The young kids got the experience they needed to go to the next level in 2009 and JoJo gets fired (Colletti has redeemed himself to a decent degree by his mid-season acquisitions and his discipline in not dealing away the kids (LaRoche obviously is the exception, but the Manny deal was a no-brainer, must do.)
    .
Free Agency — Sabathia is probably the guy to go after. But he’s going to cost a fortune. He’ll probably seek a very long contract. My guess — 7 years, $140 million. Putting that kind of money on a pitcher is a very risky proposition. The examples of terrific pitchers who got injured and whose careers then went absolutely in the tank is legion. That said, the 27-year-old Sabathia is as good a gamble as will ever be found.
    .
    GO BLUE!!

  266. trublu4ever

You all have some very interesting ideas on what to do in our off-season. There will probably be some pretty good free agents out there and from what I hear, Sabathia wants to come to the L.A. area. How do we sign anyone when we still have Juan & Andruw? I think the idea of miving Russell to 2nd or 3rd has possibilities. But, remember, Joe is our manager!

  267. amyw27

good morning. (We already know this) This statement says it all
“PHILADELPHIA — The Dodgers can’t score. They can’t hit for power. Their closer can’t find the strike zone. And, not undeservedly, they are a .500 team.”
    .
It’s so hard to root for a team with every fiber of your body, through thick and thin than this is the result.
    .
You all know me. I am not even considering giving up. We have what it takes to make this thing work. In baseball it’s not over until it’s over. I believe in this team and in their abilities!!
    .
    but frustrated as no other!!
    .
lny4loney- thanks for respecting my Pierre friendship ๐Ÿ™‚
    .
    GO DODGERS!

  268. kssssss

This has been another sad season, with a couple of bright spots now and then……The recent 5 game win streak at home doesn’t look so hot once the Rockies came to town…Since then the Dodgers look like the Dodgers always do…mediocre…every year the same thing….I’m sick of it….some of our guys have gone downhill this year….sorry to say, Broxton and even my beloved Russell….not only is his hitting going down, but he can’t seem to throw out anyone anymore….surpised they don’t try running on him more…not sure what’s wrong with him, but I think we might really rue the day we let Carlos Santana go for Casey Blake…another winner…..Did you hear what he said about what’s happening to the team now?..” good teams go through these little spells…”….first you have to be a good team I say!!!!!!This is the same ol same ol for this team…I’m glad they kept the young guys, but I’m worried about what the “stellar” management will do in the off season when we let the vets go….Nomar, Kent, etc…and hopefully that awful Sweeney….We have no bench, no ace, and now not a great bullpen….not a recipe for success…..and I hope they don’t resign Manny…I would rather have a younger, better outfielder….!!!…It’s hard for me to even watch the Dodgers play anymore…so boring and predictable…sickening..!!!…..

  269. dodgereric

amy, if we can’t respect each other, what are we left with? Planetary issues, I guess. ๐Ÿ™‚

If it helps, just be glad you’re not a Cubs fan. They’ve been waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting……………….

  270. trublu4ever

hi Amy ~ I know what you mean about being frustrated. And, if we all feel that way, can you imagine how the players are feeling right now? Manny’s haircut started our slide. I know it doesn’t make sense but, he hasn’t really hit the ball hard since. I’d like to see some fire in Joe instead of just standing there unemotional. However, on the bright side, we are still close enough to the Dbacks to win our division. After all, we are only the National League West.

  271. trublu4ever

drpdedblnd ~ I totally agree with you on what you said, especially our BENCH. We haven’t got one! I juist cringe when Sweeney picks up a bat. Kuo, for the most part is doing a pretty good job. After him, right now, it’s kind of hit or miss with the bullpen. We will see during this next week what kind of team we really have — if they can stand up and deliver.

  272. amyw27

ya’ll are right. No more planetary issues Eric! I am steering clear of those!
    .
tru- you are right. Our poor guys must feel like crap. I hate how one week we are on top of the world, then the next, rock bottom. It makes last week mean nothing because they get canceled out!
    .
nelly is right. Despite all of that, our young men have improved and have some so far talent wise and maturity this year. They have truly brought joy into my life this year and I thank them for that.
    .
    but we deserve some wins!!!

  273. enchantedbeaver

Brox kinda reminds me of a young Hershiser who lacked the mental toughness until Lasorda hung the bulldog moniker on him.

I just don’t see Torre as the type of manager that can help anyone along. Anyone that has to ask himself if he’s going to get a better AB out of Loney or Berroa is definitely out of touch with reality.

  274. trublu4ever

enchanted ~ You are so right! How much longer does Mike Scioscia have on his contract with the Angels? He’d be the perfect fit for us.

  275. trublu4ever

yarrum ~ Boy, everyone did! It got so bad the gang was doing the word for word version of “Caddyshack”. I think they are planning on “Blazing Saddles” tonight if we don’t win. PLEASE DODGERS — GET IT DONE!!

  276. tradejuanpypaperbag

Good Afternoon ITD boys and girls!
I see we have been busy this morning -Wow! Great conversation as always…
    .
messagebear – Your assessment of our young players was wonderful. For all the management and media issues they have dealt with this year, they have certainly come out of this with a definite maturity and, it appears like, a sound sense of who they are as players, both on and off the field. If they can stay together and form a young gun dynasty, we are in for a lot of exciting baseball to come. To know they have come this far with Torre, can you imagine where they would be with a young manager who has the mindset of a young player, and their needs for development?

  277. enchantedbeaver

Torre’s “wait and see” approach is perfect if you’re lake fishing, but for a baseball team it’s dreadful. Lasorda took a bunch of yound guys and sometimes dubious veterans, and motivated them to be something more than the sum of their abilities. Torre takes a world of ability and turns it into something less.

Yes Tru, Scioscia would be perfect for this team. Someone mentioned Yeager awhile back also – another good choice. This club needs someone that can take it by the snout and kick it in the ***. The talent is mostly there, but its woefully misused and underachieving.

  278. tradejuanpypaperbag

lny4loney/mlk – I don’t have much to add to your comments because you did such a great job yourself. However, what do you think should happen to the outfield in the off season. If we happen to sign Manny and don’t get rid of JP and/or Andruw, what then? We will have 6 outfielders to deal with because poor (but certainly not forgotten by the fans) DY is still in the mix somewhere.

  279. trublu4ever

enchanted ~ Yeager would be great too! I want someone molded from Tommy Lasorda — with a lot of fire and actions that benefit the players. Under Tommy’s management, we may not have had the greatest teams but, he managed to bring out their full potential. We need people in our organization who BLEED DODGER BLUE!!!!

  280. tradejuanpypaperbag

Totally off topic enchanted, but I have a student who is a fisherman at the age of 6. He has told me how he was fishing all summer in different places. He even went scuba diving this summer. Even today, he is going fishing in Bear Creek for Crawfish (Crawdads to Mercedians). Pretty cool to have an outdoorsman in the classroom.
    .
Anyhow – we definitely need a manager who is in the now, and not in the yesterday and going back days.

  281. lny4loney

    Hi dnelly!
    .
The 2008 outfield — Obviously Kemp starts every day.
    .
Andruw Jones will get another chance based on the first ten years of his career and his $18 million contract. All we can do is hope he somehow returns to a semblance of his former self.
    .
I doubt we’ll resign Manny. There will be a lot of competition, and although Manny seems to enjoy California and being a Dodger, his agent is Boras so it will be 100% about money. I wouldn’t be surprised if he follows the lead of other former Red Sox (Damon, Clemens, Boggs) and sticks it to Beantown by signing with the Yankees.
    .
Ethier obviously should start every day, and will likely be a regular starter unless we resign Manny.
    .
Pierre was used ideally last night, as a late-inning leadoff hitter in a close game. Hopefully JoJo (assuming he doesn’t get fired as he should but won’t) will use Pierre for what he is from day one. I have my doubts.
    .
Delwyn is in a tough situation. There are just too many others in front of him. If no Manny and Andruw fails to produce, he might get a chance. Otherwise I see a future in which Delwyn someday finds a starting home somewhere else. I just hope it’s not in the NL West or one day he’s going to screw us.

  282. tradejuanpypaperbag

Very funny Ward Dear – LOL!!
    .
lny4loney ~ I’m getting used to the name ๐Ÿ™‚ ~Thanks for your insights as always.

  283. mccheap

I agree with trublue, Mccourt and Colletti don’t bleed doder blue..they can pretend to bleed all the blue they want but the fact is one if from boston and the other is a giant fan…i agree in that our firt choice next year should be Sabathia..if we can’t get him try and give manny no more than a 3 year deal..i would rather wait and sign Holliday after next year..once jones is gone..i rather have DY over pierre too..and ofcourse Scoscia over Torre..like a few of you have said we need a manager that will kick a some *** and take no prisoners..(Gibson, Kennedy)..biggest mistake was letting Scoscia go..

  284. lny4loney

Letting Scoscia get away is the biggest mistake since trading Piazza. Although this is looking into the distant future, letting Matin get away would be a mistake too. He should be the manager of this team some day. Actually, I wouldn’t mind making him player/manager in another three or four years.

  285. trublu4ever

Well said, grizzly! I think, Juan may be tradeable. But, it looks like we are stuck with Andruw. Who’d want him?

  286. mccheap

pitching staff next year should include following:
Sabathia, Billinsley, Kuroda, Kershaw, Penny(Pick up his option) and have Park and McDonald as back up
    Bullpen
Real closer maybe Huston Street, broxton, beimel, wade, kuo..fill in the rest

  287. trublu4ever

all great points, lny4loney. I was truly sorry to see Mike Piazza go. At one time, our former players were brought back into the system. Even if it was scouting or in the minors. It used to be once a Dodger, always a Dodger!

  288. lny4loney

    TruBlue,
    .
I’m pretty sure we’re stuck with Juan too. If we just accept that we’re going to eat the $9 million instead of letting that be a reason to continue overvaluing him, Juan can be a decent part of the team as a (very) occasional starter and pinch-hitter/pinch-runner in the right situations.

  289. mccheap

what do you gus think about orlando hudson playing second next year..moving dewitt to 3rd..or do you think resigning casey and putting dewitt at 2nd would be a better option?

  290. trublu4ever

James Loney just appeared on “Rome is Burning”, ESPN and he was fantastic. He put the Manny dreads on and sounded just like him! Great job James!

  291. amyw27

tru-I am jealous. I would love to see James goofing on Manny. Hopefully, there will be a clip of it somewhere? Did you see James on TWIB on Saturday all mic’ed up? It made me smile ๐Ÿ™‚
    .
lny4loney- I will go with OVER on the “O-Dog” comment.

  292. trublu4ever

Amy ~ I missed James on TWIB. I didn’t know he had such a great personality. It’s unfortunate, but not many of our guys get interviewed very often. You know that ESPN east coast bias.

  293. enchantedbeaver

I’d much rather go with Hudson at 2B than Blake at 3B, but if the Sabathia rumors are true, he ought to just about break Frank’s piggy bank, so I don’t know what we’re looking at this off season. I still see DY as the Lee Lacy type – jack of all trades, master of none.

  294. kssssss

One of the things that is obvious to me is that we were better last year with 2 speed guys at the top of the lineup….Furcal and even Pierre…we seemed to get on base more and disrupt the pitchers on the other team…..without Furcal, we really aren’t as good because other than Kemp and maybe Martin, we have no speed and we wait for hits to score….and since we don’t hit alot, this is a recipe for disaster….the Phillies have alot of speed and power…I like that better….like the Angels…they have alot of little guys that can hit with speed too…..this lineup just doesn’t work…and tonight should be fun….Berroa playing….lol….but I guess Nomar isn’t doing it either…so who really cares..?!…..I want speed and power….and not over the hill veterans next year….guys in their prime…that can field, hit and do what it takes to win..!!!But I think we need more speed….what do y’all think?…..Look at the successful teams, other than the White Sox….they all have some speed along with power…I think it matters alot!!!!

But also we need a GM that understands where the value is in the market, and not someone who signs another over the hill vet who had an awful year last year, thinking he would rebound…ANDRUW JONES ANYONE???….What made Ned think he would be better?!…that along with Jason Schmidt and so many others should make Ned a goner….but will he ever be let go???

  295. crzblue2

Hi everyone. I have not had time to post and just doing a drive-by posting. Anyone read this from the mail bag:
    .
“It seems like opposing teams are stealing bases against the Dodgers at an alarming rate. Is that true?
    — Ted R., Chatsworth, Calif.
    .
Very true. It hasn’t been pretty, as Dodgers catchers are erasing basestealers at a dreadful rate of 15.9 percent on the season, which is on target to be the worst for the franchise since 1996 (14.9 percent) when Mike Piazza was the catcher. With Gold Glove catcher Russell Martin getting the bulk of the action, much of it rests on him. He has thrown out runners at a 15.5 percent clip — last in the league and barely half of his 29.3 percent last year. It’s a wonder clubs aren’t running more on the Dodgers to exploit the situation. Ken Gurnick ”
    .
Russ needs to take a day off and not only behind the plate no matter what he says.
    .
I went to catch the 66rs on Saturday. I had a great time. In the All You Can Eat we had, hot dogs, burgers with tomatoes and shered lettuce, BBQ chicken, BBq beans, soda and water. We played the Quakes and we came from behind to win. I was looking forward to seeing Carlos Santana there but as you know we traded him (long with Meloan for Case Blake. After the game we had a pizza company deliver pizza for the boys. I chatted a little bit with Charlie Hough. I told him I saw him pitch. He said “Let’s me see, that was when you were 8”. lol. I needed to pay him off then. We had right after the game. I had good time on the stand watching the game and sitting next to the Booster Club of the 66rs. Those ladies were giving the 3rd baseman (Larry Infante) of the Quakes a hard time. Shortstop Jaime Pedroza hit a HR and made some good plays. Also the centerfield Trayton Robinson made a great catch.
    .
Today is the last game for the 66rs. Tommy Davis is scheduled to be there signing autographs. 66rs are fighing for the postseason.
