MannyRam-mee
.
It was many and many a day ago,
In the Fenway by the sea,
That a slugger there riled whom you may know
By the name of MannyRam-mee;
And this slugger he played with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by he.
.
I was a fan and he was THE man,
Aft Green Monster by the sea:
But we dare not give up Matt Kemp nor Ethier–
Not them for MannyRam-mee;
We had a need that Ned could not fill so we called
The husband of Jamie.
.
And this was the reason that, weeks ago,
In this Ravine by our sea,
An announcement came out at deadline,
The trading for MannyRam-mee;
So give up our Andy LaRoche,
And catcher from minor league,
To put Ram in the cleanup spot
In this Ravine by the sea.
.
The Red Sox, not near so happy in Boston,
Went envying him and we–
Yes!–that was the reason (as all fans know,
In this Ravine by the sea)
That the howls come out of the Boston Globe,
Grumbling and rumbling ‘bout MannyRam-mee.
.
But our team it was stronger by far than the team
Of Gints who were older than we–
Of Diamondbacks ahead of we–
And neither the Red Sox on the other coast,
Nor the Yankees a new home to be,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the wonderful MannyRam-mee:
.
For I have a crush, it’s a heck of a man-crush
On the wonderful MannyRam-mee;
And I’d pay the bucks, Frank’s one hundred million bucks
For the wonderful MannyRam-mee;
And now, about dreadlocks, let him keep his dreadlocks
OPS is one point four three – keep his dreadlocks
In his cleanup spot here by the sea,
With a new RING by the BLUE sea.
Great Line Up Again!! Always great with Manny in it!!
Last night I just missed getting Mannys Home Run out in the All You Can Eat Pavilion!!Read all about it and the other 5 baseballs that I got last night!!Johnhttp://majorleagueballhawk.mlblogs.comhttp://mlballhawk.com mlballhawk@gmail.com
Repost from last thread:
Hey all, still trying to get through the day’s posts, but I just wanted to say something. Enchanted, your post at 8:07am said it all. It upsets me when the pot calls the kettle black (even moreso when I’m said pot). I don’t know what he was trying to prove, but you’re right, we know all we need to know about that guy.
eric ~ I think it was close to 900 at one time because I remember we were trying to reach 1000. About the hair, I think in some way it should be up to the team. I don’t see anyone on the team having a problem with it, (even Joe Beimel). We are talking adults here, and if they, as a team, are okay with it, then I say let Manny keep his hair. We have to keep thinking about it being the toy shop, a very fun toy shop, I might add.
.
Nice lineup!!!
Oh, and with Jayson Stark’s new snivelling article, He’s proven himself a member of the DBags, and I’m not talking about Arizona or Long Beach State baseball.
Shouldn’t he be sneaking into the Patriots clubhouse in search of Brady’s jockstrap?
northstate – Totally agree about Jayson Stark. You would think that someone at ESPN would be neutral to all teams. Likely he sits in the Bristol, CT headquarters and is partial to the Sox Nation. He reminds me of Johnny Most.
Slightly altered repost from the end of the last thread:
The Lineup at Maryvale on March 25th had 953 posts.
jhall was reposting songs just to drive up the count!
The haircut was a good ‘ol #8. I kinda look like Frank Sinatra now. It was for purely cosmetic reasons – after climbing out of that taco every morning, the one thing I didn’t have to worry about was having unruly hair.
Personally, Ramirez can wear his hair down to his knees for all I care as long as he keeps hitting it on the screws. But once he steps out of line……..it’s samson time. Yep. Totally hypocritical. Why not? It’s supposed to be the toy department and we seem to be having fun right now. I’m dancing while the music is playing and I’ll worry about it later.
By the way, I’m really stunned as to the reaction by so many of you to last night. I don’t know what to say other than simply – thanks.
eric, you’re welcome. He made an — of himself when he badmouthed and name-called you, then tried to say YOU were the insulting one. I’m sure everyone’s a cult that doesn’t fall in line with him.
As far as his “cult” statement a few months ago, I have three words for him: HEY, KOOL AID!!!!!!
north, was he really the one who called us a cult? Wow. BTW, it’s nice to see that you got your moniker back. Maybe kahli and fogey and lord knows who else can get theirs back too!
Nice familiar line-up
I know it’s not possible but imagine we all knew the line-up and it wouldn’t have to be posted.
The slight change tonight Martin switched with Blake.
Is it possible some will occupy the same slot?
Well regardless, as usual, one thing that will remain the same:
LET’S WIN TONIGHT, AGAIN.
eric ~some would say you are lucky to have hair to cut :)…. Also, as far as the comments, they pick on one of us, they pick on all of us, and you have (many times in my case) and will do the same for us.
.
Maybe Joe should take a team vote whether Manny keeps his hair – LOL!!! It is an idea…
.
June, nelly ~ ethieraholic and it looks like I am going to get my fix tonight with this lineup.
crash24, Stark is definitely a Boston homer, but that Manny-Rejected-Me-So-I’m-Burning-Our-Loveletters tripe crossed the line of journalistic integrity. At least Bill Simmons lets it be known on Page 2 that he’s always wearing Boston blinders, but Stark was trying to pawn that off as something you might find on the AP Sports wire.
I’m not even going to pretend that I’m not aware of Manny’s past issues, and what that could mean to our evolving clubhouse should it rear its head again. I’m going to give Manny credit, though, as he hasn’t done anything in Blue yet that worries me to that end. I don’t think Joe would take it (even though he should ease up on the hair thing, we’re not the Yankees for crissakes!).
I trublue, probably the oldest member of our family, promise to make sure nobody messes with any of my family. It will be my job to do whatever it takes to keep you ALL safe from V.I.s and anyone else who insults any of you.
MOM
You’d think a person would remember a thing like that, Beav! LOL!
nelly, it might be grey, but I can comb it. Well, after it grows out again.
Howdy Pierres! I hope you’re well on the way to your recovery. Last night’s heroics didn’t make you pop another tube, did it? You’re right about the lineup. I almost don’t care who hits where, as long as it’s those same 8 guys. At least until (praying here) Furcal can return. Then we can have another 800-post discussion!
Thanks, northstate. Thanks, eric.
.
Agree with eric, lbirken – LOL! – another Joey? or is it just spam?
.
Home run derby tonight against Myers – he has given up 25 taters this year in 125 IP. My vote is for Casey Blake. Matt Kemp, too.
Nelly, I saw a report earlier today that said Wade had soreness in his shoulder. He’s only pitched once (on Aug 8) in the last eight games. Too bad. He was doing great for the Blue.
Eric and Nelly – I too would prefer a healthy Furcal at shortstop, and hopefully that would give us Nomar as the first person off the bench. Unfortunately, I don’t know when Furcal will be what he was in April 2008 again!
Here’s one that’s been stuck in my head for a while, rodmky probably knows this tune well:
In honor of Luke Prokopec: “We Love the Dodger Blue”, to the tune of “Happy Little Vegemites”
We’re smiling happy Dodger fans, as Blue as Blue can be
We’re talking Dodger Baseball here at breakfast, lunch and tea
Vin Scully says they’re growing stronger every single week
Because we Love the Dodger Blue
We all adore the Dodger Blue
They have us cheering in the streets!
eric ~ I wasn’t reading what you wrote correctly, I guess. I think my brain is fried from today, and I don’t know why because I didn’t learn anything. Well, I did, but it had nothing to do with my teaching. Well, I can’t really say that either (ethier). Well, what I can say is that what I did learn did not come from the lady doing the presentation, if you know what I mean. Let me know if I am not making sense, please.
.
Thanks, June ~ ethieraholic
Just for nostalgia’s sake, I just looked up the last game of April – Furcal, the human sparkplug, went 5-for-6 with three runs scored leading the Blue to a 13-1 romp over the Fish!
crash ~ that’s too bad. I was wondering why we hadn’t seen him. I really liked what he was doing for us. Damn!!
.
enchanted ~ yes, I know what you mean, Beav!! LOL!! I am still laughing, you know 🙂
.
think16blu ~ great name, and thanks for clarifying it is you Amy.
.
northstateblues ~ glad to see you still have your name, and great song!!
My cousin who is a die hard red sox fan says that Manny isnt a team player, except in 2004 and 2007 when they won the WS ….oh the irony…im like yep ur right.
Hi everybody
No Dodgereric I didn’t pop another tube.
As I get stronger, it seems I have to be more careful.
I also had to get a new vac after that night since the next day I couldn’t charge the battery and had to stay home all day.
Tanyon Sturtze –
.
Career stats 5.21 ERA, 1.53 WHIP
.
Last year in the majors was 2006 – threw 10 innings for the Yanks
.
I’d rather have the Stanley Steamer
Wade is a huge huge huge loss for the bullpen!! He was the most underrated player on this team so far this year! I think we need to get some bullpen help now. Sturtze is not the answer.
G’Day/Good Morning from Down Under. Poor Amy takes a bit for her support of JP so I love baseball trivia … In his career the mighty JP has hit 12 home runs .. 1 each from ….
Brian Lawrence
Adam Eaton
John Patterson
John Lieber
John Thomson
Jamey Wright
David Bush
Victor Santon
Ian Snell
Jose Lima
Craig Dingman (what an unfortunate name for a pitcher)
Salmon Torres.
Bummer about Penny…Wade, too. I’m sure Towers is on the phone to Colletti about Maddux, and his price probably went UP. That is, unless someone else claimed Maddux and the Pods pulled him back. Who knows these days. And with the Rockies rolling over yet again…well, Dodgers sit in 2nd place–yet again.
To steal the idea…
.
.
“Now if I could only grow my hair like HIM maybe I could get a helmet to fit…”
.
.
Juan Pierre thought bubble as he looks longingly at Mannys locks during the 2nd inning tonight.
Someone mentioned earlier about Martin having a mohawk.
.
Well his mohawk wasn’t a long one. It was short and the sides of his head were shaved to the skin.
.
It was referred to a fauxhawk.
.
Not that I’m a barber or anything 😉
.
Also I’m actually with J. Pierre with that thought bubble. Not that my head is small, but my folicles (Did I spell that correct?) are!!
.
Thank God bald is beautifull these days, because I’m able to shave the dome and get away with it!
Someone mentioned that while at the Giant game this last weekend a fan was yelling that Martin “sucks”.
.
That is all the Giants fans can ever say. Nothing orginal. Nothing thought provoking.
.
Can anyone tell I hate the Giants?
.
I felt sorry for them a minute and then they took 2 of 3 and I was having all these people pop off when I have not poped off all year long as we’ve been rolling them. Typical.
.
But anyway… a little respect came his way as a couple of weeks ago I was at the bar that sponsers my softball team, the Dodger game was on and one of my teamates made a comment that Martin was “to good to be on the Dodgers”. I just laughed. No come back was necessary for that one.
nelly–when you met Ethier did you tell him we call him Everyday ‘Dre because he needs to be in thier everyday?
.
Whenever I see him I always yell to him “Everyday ‘Dre”.
.
He gives me this befuddled look.
.
I think I scare him LOL…
I guess I’m making up for lost time…
.
Sam you mentioned about Beimels hair still being long. I was wondering about that as well. I know in Spring Training something being mentioned that Torre had the no long hair/facial hair rule. It seems that Torre lifted the facial hair rule then. Can you imagine Kent without the cop/porn star stache? Beimel cut his hair then but it has grown out. Maybe Joe T. just wants it above the shoulders or something.
.
Okay I know you are all dude what is with your obsession with hair?
.
I really don’t have one. I promise!
.
And with that I will leave the hair topic alone!
.
Getting close to game time! Go Blue!!!!!
dcollins, yeah, the Jints fans got all boisterous after last weekend… laughing all the way to the cellar with the Pads. As long as Josh is eating Ice Cream, they can laugh ’til they cry and beg McGowan to put a gigantic mural to Barry in their outfield (Probably that infamous HR that ended our season in the late 90’s), just so they can have some illusion of greatness to latch onto since Mays left them for Mr. Met.
nsblues–I know you know about the flags in right center with the standings. Pretty much whenever I go to the game and I’m told how much the “Dodgers suck” I always point to the flags and remind them that the flags don’t lie!
dcollins~ jnv was the one at the game that had the Giants fan yelling “Martin sucks” I must admit at least my husband and son know their team sucks. It doesn’t excuse them from being Giants fans, but at least they are away of the Giants status amongst the west division.
.
As for meeting Andre, we didn’t have enough time to ask him too many questions. There were over 500 people there, all needing to get through the line within an hour. I told him I was a blogger on ITD and on his blog. He asked how I like his blog and I told him it was great, and I told him I am a frequent commentor on the blog. He just smiled and said thank you. I didn’t say we call him “Everyday ‘Dre”, but it’s one of those things that the more I thought about it, the more I kept thinking “I should have said that instead, or I should have said this. ” So, now I just tell him things on his blog. I believe it has been mentioned on his blog about his name you gave him “Everyday ‘Dre” whether in a song or a comment that many of us have posted over there since he started it.
jnv, I don’t know if I said it earlier, but way to keep those Giants fans at bay (no pun intended). Glad to see Kent threw it back in their faces, too. I have yet to visit the Phone Booth for a game since I moved to NorCal, but now I’m anticipating it.
NSB–Oh ok. I had never heard anyone else call it that so I was excited to see someone else use it. I like it too!
.
I’ve got to go. The Wife says “HEY!!! No blogging on date night!”. So I’ve got to go get some dinner and have a date! The next best thing to being at a Dodger game! Woo hooo!!!
C Ya all later!!!

Here’s a snippet (again, no pun intended) of the MLB.com article about Manny’s haircut:
“He haunts me with this,” Torre said. “He said, ‘It’s the hair.’ Every time he gets a hit he tells me, ‘It’s the hair.’ He’s been funny. I continue to tell him, I say, ‘If it was the hair, I would have snuck into your apartment when you were in Boston and shaved your head.’ I said, ‘It’s your ability.'”
btw, reading that Torre quote, I had this comic vision of Torre (played by Joe Pesci) sneaking into Manny’s (played by Damon Wayans) apartment in Boston with clippers, with the Home-Alone piano music playing as Manny (wearing a nightcap) is startled awake, opens his eyes to Torre’s grinning face, flashlight in one hand and clippers in the other, and screams.
Bud Light is giving me an active imagination tonight, heh.
Yeah, vl , I can still see some of those shots he used to hit out of Wrigley Field. It seems to me that Howard used to hit more for average along with his power in past years. Now, teams are using the shift on him because he’s not using the whole field anymore. He’s cruising dangerously in Adam Dunn’s territory.
Blech, Comcast SportsNet is showing the Dodgers-Giants game from September 20, 1989. The only highlight from stumbling on this channel is remembering a long-forgotten, unfortunately-named Giant foe: Kirt Manwaring.
AWESOME!! Sweeping the Big Bad Phillies! I gotta say I like this two headed monster to close out games. It seems to work well so far with Kuo & Broxton.
First 4 game sweep of the Phils in 46 years.
If anybody told me this at the start of this series I would think they hadn’t been following baseball that close.
This is incredable and what we have seen here all I can say is we now have one hellava team.
BRING ON THE BREW CREW.
Wonderul Complete Team Fourth in a Row kryptonite Busting 3 To 1 Victory by our Beloved First Place Los Angeles Dodgers over the Philadelphia Phillies, where Everybody were Super Heros! This Miraculous Supernatural Ride Continues Until the Veritable World Series Championship is Won as Declared by Our All Powerful Dodger In The Sky In this Dodger Astonishing Jubilee 50th Anniversary of Our Incomparable Los Angeles Dodgers in Los Angeles In This Majestic Year 2008 A.D.!
ndeschenes ~ short but sweet tonight, stressing the sweet part, of course. It’s great to hear from you on a night the Dodgers sweep the Phillies for the first time in 46 years. Maybe we will make it five in a row, and we will hear from you tomorrow as well. Have a wonderful evening, ndeschenes, and a spectacular tomorrow ~
“Andruw Jones and Delwyn Young will begin minor league rehab assignments on Saturday.
It’s debatable if either player is truly injured, or if they’re just being stashed for roster concerns. The Dodgers hope that some time in the minors will help Jones resemble mediocrity. By starting his rehab now, Young won’t exceed his maximum number of rehab games before rosters are expanded.”
eric ~ being 10 1/2 games out both him and my son are at least not giving me a bad time anymore. They know the Giants truly do suck more than the Dodgers right now. And if Michael decides to say something, all I have to say to Michael is the word “Standings” and he shuts up -LOL!!!
eric ~ you and my husband would probably get along pretty good. You are both into sports, your kids and cars (he has a 68 two-toned blue mustang). We seem to have a very similar family dynamic in kids’ ages and things we do together as a family.
Good night enchanted/Beav!!! Thanks for the laughs this morning. You, eric and jhall really did make my day much more enjoyable. I’m sure everyone was wondering what I was laughing at because I get giggly when it’s too funny. See you tomorrow ~
Nells, mom ~ ethieraholic
I see a point in wanting it, but I don’t think I would like to see it happen. I just like the game the way it is, and I am willing to take the bad calls in order to keep it that way (IMO).
It gave him some big thighs, didn’t it? I’m very pleased that you like the book. I just love all those stories. I was just looking at my copy for a while this evening. Speaking of Gehrig, look at page 64. Is that or is that not Paul Newman?
Dodgers 2B Jeff Kent went 1-for-4 and is now 14-for-30 with eight RBIs in eight games since moving to the No. 3 spot in the batting order, raising his average from .256 to .272. He said he didn’t believe the change had anything to do with his hot streak. “Sometimes things go your way for unexplained reasons,” he said.
Ummmmmmmmmm, I don’t think so. Come on, Jeff. Give Manny a teeny wee bit of love, huh?
i can’t stay to chat.. i’ve been SO busy with work.. i’m actually in the office right now.. came over here after the game.. but i got to see another good one tonight. between tuesday and today i saw two great games against the phillies. this 4 game sweep was impressive. i’m glad those bad losses against the giants didn’t leave a hangover of any kind. kemp ripped his homer tonight. the lineup was great from top to bottom. let’s keep the winning going this weekend against the brewers.. i won’t be around.. i’m off to vegas tomorrow.. but i hope you all have a great weekend! 🙂
The Dodgers are believed to be in discussions with the Washington Nationals about a possible trade that would bring veteran infielder Ronnie Belliard to Los Angeles. The Nationals withdrew Belliard from the waiver wire after at least one team, the Dodgers, put in a claim on him. But because the Dodgers were the team that would have acquired Belliard, by rules, the Nationals still can trade him to that club.
Belliard, 33, is hitting .237 with 10 home runs and 33 RBI this season and has played first, second and third base. He also can play shortstop, although it isn’t immediately clear where he would fit with the Dodgers. He is in the first season of a two-year, $3.5 million contract that is paying him $1.6 million this year and will pay him $1.9 million next year.
Interest in Belliard doesn’t speak too highly of Berroa in 2008 or Tony Abreu in 2009…but he is 33 years old. Belliard is also a right-handed batter, which Dodgers deperately need off the bench.
ooh, one more thing and then i really have to get some work done..
delwyn has been coming out to catch in between innings when russell has to put his gear back on.. i don’t think you do that if you have a strained oblique because the throwing motion has to be bothersome.. further proof that our DL is just a holding cell for all the players we don’t want to lose, yet don’t want to play..
thanks dnelly and eric. i don’t gamble much so i should be fine on gas money.. i just go to sleep, relax, and layout.. and go out and drink of course!!
jnv, thanks for defending me 🙂
i haven’t really had a chance to catch up on the posts, but i did see that. i appreciate it..
oh, and i’m sure you guys mentioned it earlier.. but we sure are lucky when it comes to matchups sometimes.. we miss sabathia AND sheets this weekend.. that’s a break if i ever heard one~ whew!
sara ~ I know you know, and yes, we are very aware about us missing Sabathia and Sheets. We’ve already had our taste of Sabathia. Who can forget his homerun in Dodger Stadium when he was there with the Indians.
Yeah, I wasn’t in here when that happened, sara, but I read it later. jnv stood up right away, didn’t he? Gives you a good feeling, doesn’t it?
You just keep feeling free to say whatever you want here sara. I have a lot of friends that I disagree with on many issues. The important thing is that we respect each other and allow each other to have our own opinions.
YIKES! I just checked the forecast in Vegas. 109, 105 and 103 Fri/Sat/Sun. And it looks like the 51s are in Fresno for the weekend.
Well, the 51’s aren’t going to get a break here. It was 105 in Fresno today, and tomorrow their air quality is going to be purple (I kid you not!). They said it was so high, they couldn’t just leave it at red, so they made it purple. Is that crazy or what?
ummm!! not completely, but much better is what the teacher I work with said. She said the worst of it is contained. It’s just a matter of keeping it from kicking up again. They need to get through a few more weeks until the weather starts to really cool down up there. However, I’m not sure how it is up north, north. I am sure northstateblues or jnv know more about those fires up there.
Me too, but it just isn’t working. I know the feeling. Today has been a tough day eventhough I really didn’t get much done. Thanks again to you, enchanted and jhall for the laughs during my inservice. It was very funny, and it was hard not to laugh out loud. Good Night, Ward, and I will talk to you tomorrow sometime, I’m sure.
For anyone curious about Tanyon Sturtze, They mention him in the article “Boys to Men” by Chris Gigley from the July 2008 Dodgers Magazine. Don’t have a link, so I typed out the part that talks about him in general:
All of the younger players on the Suns team say having two former big leaguers in the clubhouse has been a big help. Right-handed reliever Tanyon Sturze joined the team out of extended Spring Training in April, and infileder Mark Bellhorn followed in May.
Both bring significant big league experience. Sturze has pitched all or parts of 11 Major League seasons, inluding eight postseason appearances for the Joe Torre-managed Yankees in 2004 and 2005. Bellhorn is a 10-year big league veteran who played a key role on the Red Sox championship team in 2004.
“Both of those guys have played in big, big series up in the Northeast, and it’s interesting to hear what they have to say about those experiences,” said May, “On the field, they definitely try to help us out whenever they can because for them coming back here is like me going back down to high school. They see a lot of mistakes we don’t even know we’re making.”
[. . .]
Overall, the greatest thing Sturtze and Bellhorn offer their young teamates is perspective. Sturze tells them that this may be a big adjustment for them, but going from Double-A or Triple-A to the Majors is an even bigger one.
“You can make a mistake here and it’s probably going to be a pop up,” said Sturtze, who was promoted to Triple-A in June. “Maybe they’ll hit it for a home run. But you make a mistake in the big leagues, and you’re usually asking for a new ball from the umpire. The plays behind you that are routinely made in the big leagues aren’t always made here, either. The players at this level just need a little more time to learn.”
Good Morning, ITD writers and readers!!
Another great win last night, just fabulous!! Now, we have the Brew Crew to conquer, but this is a much different team that we have then the last time we faced them, and we fortunately don’t have to see Sabathia and Sheets this time out – yeah!!!
.
Good Morning, Boblee and jhall!!!
.
jhall ~ we got stumped last night when Kuo finished the game as you can tell. We didn’t know what Kuo says….
No – thank goodness!!! I just have to finish putting up bulletin boards (2 more), putting out student supplies and a few lesson plans to get me through the first few days. I should finish set up today, and hopefully just have to work on lesson plans tomorrow.
They are still working on our roof which doesn’t seem like it’s going to be finished by Monday. So that will make the first day so enjoyable with people banging on top of our roof all day, not to mention the smell.
So, we’ve rendered you to just laughing with nothing to say? -LOL!!! Oh no!!!! Kind of like Obi yesterday when just his name appeared with no thought whatsoever – LOL!!!
Wow! What a sweep. Our lineup is absolutely awesome. Every night we have a different hero and it’s not always Manny! I’ve had to work the last couple of nights so I’ve had to keep track of the games on the computer. I play the Dodgers victory song “I Love LA” on my Iphone when they do win! Everyone here at work already knows that I’m a true blue fan. I will be going to the games tonight for Dodger CD night and tomorrow night for fireworks night. I am excited. Can’t wait!! Go Dodgers!! Go Blue. I miss our guys.
Yep Nelly!! Didn’t think we would sweep the Phillies. Hope Joko keeps this lineup. It is so much more enjoyable without Phew leading off and playing center. Geez!!!!! At least you feel like you’ve got your best team available out there and have a good chance to win the game.
Really need Nomar to stay healthy!!! Tough luck losing Wade. Penny, who cares. He hasn’t contributed anything since April. Stults is better right now than Penny. Hope we don’t pick up Pennys’ option for next year. I think he is a shoulder surgery waiting to happen. Let it be on someone elses nickle.
JP’s perfect role right now is coming off the bench to PH. He really can make a difference in a game if he gets on in the late innings, and I have no problems with him getting the spot starts every once in while. However, this is two out of three games where Andre has gotten hits off of lefties. One to win the game, and last night a double to start an inning off. His average against lefties has went up to .205 so at least it’s climbing from the .160 -.170’s it was at.
jhall ~ we’ll all keep our fingers crossed for Nomar. I agree with you about Penny. He wasn’t that great last year either. It almost as if he doesn’t want to pitch — a couple of innings and he’s ready to get out of the game.
jhall ~ It was not good news to hear about Wade, but I guess it’s just rest, and hopefully he will be back when the roster opens up in September. Like you said ~ Penny hasn’t done much for us so we might as well let Stults get in there. He wasn’t doing to bad before he was sent back down.
I think Stults can adequately handle the 5th starter spot. Funny twist, but Kuo could end up as a closer. Put Brox back in the set-up roll and let Kuo close. Leaves a big hole in the middle relief however.
An early morning question: Who was the last Dodger ace? I mean, a real ace. A guy who, when you know he’s the starter for the next game you were very confident of a win.
Good Morning Eric/Dear!! Questions this early – hmmmmm!! I honestly don’t think I can think of anybody after him – scary!! I can go backwards and think of many, but not forwards – hmmm good question 🙂
Billz is already starting to emerge as a front line starter. I think Kersh is a couple of years away. I’d like to stick them behind a CC or Sheets for 2 or 3 years as they develope.
Hiya June, Wally, and……since June’s full name seems to be June Evelyn Bronson Cleaver, we could dub you Mrs Bronson!
I wouldn’t be suprised if Billz and Kersh became the new Koufax and Drysdale. I know that’s some pretty fast company and it’s really too early to say that, but I really like what I’ve seen so far. Since so much of good pitching is knowledge, those two have only scratched the surface so far.
Geez, we’re only talking a couple of million for Maddux. Ned has wasted at least 25 times that. $2M invested now could pay huge dividends down the road with Billz and Kersh.
Good Morning Ward dear!! I am heading off to work. I will catch up to all of you later. Have a great morning.

Item: “Penny, who is 6-9 with a 6.09 earned-run average, said he felt discomfort after his start in San Francisco on Friday, when he limited the Giants to a run over five innings but raised concerns because his fastball sat in the high 80s.
Asked why he took another turn in the rotation, Penny replied, “I want to pitch, you know. You get paid to pitch.”
Reaction: To blazes with the team, I want to pitch? Thanks a bunch. What a man. He did this before his last DL visit too.
Item: “The Dodgers put in a waiver claim on Ronnie Belliard, making it possible for them to acquire the second baseman from Washington in a trade. But it appears the Dodgers made the move to prevent Belliard from going to Arizona, which lost Orlando Hudson for the season.”
eduardo ~ I agree with you on the fact that our pitching is under-rated. We certainly have as good a bullpen as anyone else. It kind of a good thing that the Dodgers are flying under the radar, that way we can sneak past the Dbacks and win our division.
Ol Frank is going to HAVE to spend some money this offseason. We have a FA LF, SS, 2B, 3B and SP, and Marty and Andre are super 2s. Plus decisions have to be made on Saito and Park.
I wouldn’t want Lowe or Penny back. Penny’s another Schmidt waiting to happen (and I agree BTW about his selfishness.) Lowe just isn’t that good. There’s two spots in the rotation you have to fill, might as well be CC and Sheets. I think Sheets is a given since he’s a Lasorda favorite. You have to choose then between CC and Manny. To me, no contest, you take CC. A starting rotation of CC, Billz, Sheets, Kuroda and Kersh would be unmatchable by any other staff. Still would have Kuo and Brox as closers, and some very nice arms as middle relief. That kind of staff wouldn’t need to have many runs to win.
Then you’d have to see if Blake would take a 2-year contract with performance incentives, hope DeWitt can play 2B, and maybe resign Ferk to a 1-year incentive laden contract. The bench will just have to shake itself out.
enchanted ~ I agree that Frank is going to have to spend the money. As for Lowe and Penny, I thought Lowe was going to be gone before the trade deadline. As for Penny, I never liked him much, he didn’t seem to care if he was pitching well or not.
For all of you old-timers, here’s a trip down memory lane. I didn’t and couldn’t and wouldn’t change a word.
Danny Kaye’s D-o-d-g-e-r-s Song
So, I say D
I say D-O,
D-O-D
D-O-D-G,
D-O-D-G-E-R-S
Team, team, team, team!
Oh!
I say O-M,
O-M-A
O-M-A-L,
O-M-A-L-L-E-Y
Oh really? No, O’Malley!
Sandy Koufax, oh my Drysdale,
Maury Wills, I love you so.
And we defy
Defy the J-I,
J-I-N
J-I-N-T,
The J-I-N-T-S, Giants!
Play ball!
Orlando Cepeda is at bat with the bases jammed.
Orlando Cepeda, with a wham, bam, he hit a grand slam.
In the very first inning, but it’s only the begining,
In the third, like a bird, we get two on, none away.
Then Fairly hits into a double play.
Here comes Big Frank Howard, yessiree,
Boy, what a swing! Strike three.
Oh dem B
Oh dem B-U,
B-U-M
B-U-M-S.
Dem bums, dem bums, dem dry bums.
Oh they may be bums, but they’re my bums.
Top of the fifth, say hey Willy Mays
Hits a three bagger down the right field line.
But he’s out trying to stretch it to a homer,
As Roseboro tags him on the bottom of the spine.
With a crack you can hear
All the way back up to
San Francisco, open your hospitals!
Charge!
Inning six, Maury Wills
Draws a walk, in the coach’s box
Leo Durocher, Leo Durocher
Starts to wiggle and to twitch.
A signal? No, an itch.
Go Maury, go Maury, go go go!
Maury goes, the catcher throws,
Right from the solar plexus.
At the bag he beats the tag
That mighty little waif,
And umpire Conlin cries, `Yer out!`
Out? Out???
Down in the dugout Alston glowers,
Up in the booth Vin Scully frowns.
Out in the stands O’Malley grins,
Attendance fifty thousand.
And what does O’Malley do?
Charge!
Bottom of the ninth, four to nuttin`,
Last chance, push the button!
Oh we’re pleading, begging, on our knees,
Come on you Flatbush refugees!
Maury Wills at bat, hit it for me once,
Stu Miller throws, Maury bunts.
Cepeda runs to field the ball and Hiller covers first,
Haller runs to back up Hiller,
Hiller crashes into Miller,
Miller falls, drops the ball, Conlin calls `Safe!`
Yea, Maury!
Gilliam up, Miller grunts.
Miller throws, Gilliam bunts.
Cepeda runs to field the ball and Hiller covers first,
Haller runs to back up Hiller,
Hiller crashes into Miller,
Miller falls, drops the ball, Conlin calls `Safe!`
Yea, Conlin!
Willie Davis gets a hit
And Tommy does the same,
Here comes Mr. Howard
With a chance to win the game.
Hit it once!
Big Frank bunts?!?
Cepeda runs to field the ball, so does Hiller, so does Miller Miller hollers ‘Hiller`,
Hiller hollers `Miller,`
Haller hollers `Hiller,` points to Miller with his fist,
And that’s the Miller Hiller Haller Halleluia Twist!
The Davises score, it’s four to four,
And Howard’s still rounding the bases.
From second to third, it’s almost absurd,
Amazement on everyone’s faces.
He’s heading for home, he hasn’t a chance,
The poor lad is gonna be dead.
But the ball hits him right in the seat of his pants
And he scores! That’s using your head.
So I say D
I say D-O,
D-O-D-G-E-R-S.
The team that`s all heart,
All heart and all thumbs,
They’re my Los Angeles, your Los Angeles,
Our Los Angeles…
Do you really think we’ll win the pennant?
Bums!
Ooh, ooh, ooh dem bums

MannyRam-mee
.
It was many and many a day ago,
In the Fenway by the sea,
That a slugger there riled whom you may know
By the name of MannyRam-mee;
And this slugger he played with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by he.
.
I was a fan and he was THE man,
Aft Green Monster by the sea:
But we dare not give up Matt Kemp nor Ethier–
Not them for MannyRam-mee;
We had a need that Ned could not fill so we called
The husband of Jamie.
.
And this was the reason that, weeks ago,
In this Ravine by our sea,
An announcement came out at deadline,
The trading for MannyRam-mee;
So give up our Andy LaRoche,
And catcher from minor league,
To put Ram in the cleanup spot
In this Ravine by the sea.
.
The Red Sox, not near so happy in Boston,
Went envying him and we–
Yes!–that was the reason (as all fans know,
In this Ravine by the sea)
That the howls come out of the Boston Globe,
Grumbling and rumbling ‘bout MannyRam-mee.
.
But our team it was stronger by far than the team
Of Gints who were older than we–
Of Diamondbacks ahead of we–
And neither the Red Sox on the other coast,
Nor the Yankees a new home to be,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the wonderful MannyRam-mee:
.
For I have a crush, it’s a heck of a man-crush
On the wonderful MannyRam-mee;
And I’d pay the bucks, Frank’s one hundred million bucks
For the wonderful MannyRam-mee;
And now, about dreadlocks, let him keep his dreadlocks
OPS is one point four three – keep his dreadlocks
In his cleanup spot here by the sea,
With a new RING by the BLUE sea.
In addition to Manny and his dreadlocks, I love tonight’s lineup.
Great Line Up Again!! Always great with Manny in it!!
Last night I just missed getting Mannys Home Run out in the All You Can Eat Pavilion!!Read all about it and the other 5 baseballs that I got last night!!Johnhttp://majorleagueballhawk.mlblogs.comhttp://mlballhawk.com

GO DODGERS!!!!
MARTIN moved up in batting…HE IS MOVING ON UP…MOVING ON UP!
ETHIER – no more sweating if you are playing or not…YEAH!
LET’S GO BOYS IN BLUE
Rose
Great lineup, we sweep! GAME OVER!
Eric ~ I was saying on the previous thread (new one caught me off guard) that we are family and, nobody messes with our FAMILY !!!!!!!
Crash ~ you forgot the dedication to Rintinjim LOL
eric ~ I think it was close to 900 at one time because I remember we were trying to reach 1000. About the hair, I think in some way it should be up to the team. I don’t see anyone on the team having a problem with it, (even Joe Beimel). We are talking adults here, and if they, as a team, are okay with it, then I say let Manny keep his hair. We have to keep thinking about it being the toy shop, a very fun toy shop, I might add.
.
Nice lineup!!!
mlbballhawk, you are the man! I always thought it would be great fun to shag balls in the outfield during batting practice.
TruBlue, if he’s not a fan of Edgar Allen Poe, then I don’t want him reading my parodies anyway.
Mr. Torre, you finally have the right lineup, so please, leave it alone and keep it this way for the rest of the season.
FANTASTIC CRASH!!! I had to go back up to read it after my post. Very Poetic!!!
Crash ~ he’s not a fan, peroid!
Thanks, Nelly!
.
TruBlue- LOL!
crash24, great Poe-inspired poem!
He reminds me of Johnny Most.
crash, obviously inspired!!! Excellent!!!
By dodgereric on August 14, 2008 4:17 PM
eric, you’re welcome.
Yup, think you were gone that night eric. That’s how you became Charles Manson 🙂
And BTW, lbirken – – LMAO!!!!
eric ~some would say you are lucky to have hair to cut :)….
Too bad the hair club for men really isn’t a club 🙂
FANTASTIC line up!!!!
Hey enchanted!! How are you doing this evening?
.
PierreEw ~ good evening to you too!!
.
eric ~ These 8 in the lineup are our best 8 period.
News flash – Penny and Wade go on the DL. Eric Stults and Sturtze come up to replace them.
Crash, why Wade?
OK, here we go already……..
nelly, I like Nomar (when he’s healthy) just fine, but are you saying you’d rather have him at short than Furcal?
And I hate to do it, but I’ll catch up later. I gotta head for the barn.
Tanyon Sturtze? ARe YOU FREAKING SERIOUS!?!?!? Give me a break. He’s only up cuz he’s Joe’s boy from New York! Pathetic.
Tanyon Sturtze – 38 year old righty reliever. In AAA this year, his WHIP is 1.31. Another Falkenborg? Another Proctor?
No ~ I want Furcal, for sure. I meant right now – no, I want Furcal.
http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20080814&content_id=3310410&vkey=pr_la&fext=.jsp&c_id=la
That’s what I thought, June darlin’! Later!
BTW “think16blue” = Acardona
Nelly, I saw a report earlier today that said Wade had soreness in his shoulder. He’s only pitched once (on Aug 8) in the last eight games. Too bad. He was doing great for the Blue.
I decided to go by my nickname cause i was getting e-mails from people i didn’t know…
Acardona = ETHIERaholic!
Doing fine Mom. Keeping the cat handy, you know, just incase.
They’re growing stronger every week!
eric ~ I wasn’t reading what you wrote correctly, I guess.
Would you just go get Maddux Ned??
Just for nostalgia’s sake, I just looked up the last game of April – Furcal, the human sparkplug, went 5-for-6 with three runs scored leading the Blue to a 13-1 romp over the Fish!
Nice one, Northstate!
.
Go Dodgers! Let’s get a sweep!
I’ll second that, enchanted!
crash ~ that’s too bad.
What is a Tanyon Sturtze anyway? Sounds like it ought to be a vintage auto like a REO or Stanley Streamer.
LOL enchanted!!! I never heard of him.
Hi Mom II!!
.
Glad your recovering nicely PierresEW!!!
I can tell I’m in short post mode tonight. Unless Kuroda pulls a Penny, then I’ll be in kick the cat mode.
Where IS that darned cat???
Tanyon sounds like the kind of pitcher you don’t want to kick the tires too hard or else the bumpers fall off.
Nelly- Thanks! i like the name too! haha!
.
I miss Furcal!! he was on fire!!! don’t get me wrong! i appreciate what Nomar is doing at SS but… we need Furcal back!!
Jeeez! First Saito. Now Wade. Penny I kind of expected. That leaves an even bigger void in the bullpen. It’s going to be tough down the stretch.
I don’t know who Sturtze is… his ERA scares me though!! that really sucks to hear about Wade!!
enchanted ~ just stay away from your cute dogs 🙂
Just when the lineup got settled, now we got pitching problems. . .
I’m worried about the pitching too, crash. Down the stretch, it’s pitching that wins.
with Furcal back
.
Furcal – SS
Kemp – CF
Ethier – RF
Ramirez – LF
Kent – 2B
Loney – 1B
Martin – C
Blake or Nomar – 3B
.
my dream line up!! thats a sweet line up!! LOL
crash- SO TRUE!!! hopefully with this line up we can pull through!
alright I’m out!! GO DODGERS!!!
Wade is a huge huge huge loss for the bullpen!! He was the most underrated player on this team so far this year! I think we need to get some bullpen help now. Sturtze is not the answer.
This is really upsetting hearing about Cory. I really enjoyed watching him pitch. That is just not good.
Looking at the pitching, I’m afraid we’re going to have to go the FA route before next season. I just hope Nerd doesn’t resign Lowe.
And with the Rockies rolling over yet again…well, Dodgers sit in 2nd place–yet again.
maddux is garbage??????
sam, it’s a moot point anyway. Maddux isn’t coming…I don’t think???!?!?
To steal the idea…
.
.
“Now if I could only grow my hair like HIM maybe I could get a helmet to fit…”
.
.
Juan Pierre thought bubble as he looks longingly at Mannys locks during the 2nd inning tonight.
dcollins ~ LOL!
Not that my head is small, but my folicles (Did I spell that correct?) are!!
.
Thank God bald is beautifull these days, because I’m able to shave the dome and get away with it!
dcollins ~ I think Russell gave Penny a mohawk and, bam, he went on the DL. Uh,oh it might be contageous.
“aware” not “away” – brain still must be fried.
dcollins, the truth hurts, heheheh.
jnv, I don’t know if I said it earlier, but way to keep those Giants fans at bay (no pun intended). Glad to see Kent threw it back in their faces, too. I have yet to visit the Phone Booth for a game since I moved to NorCal, but now I’m anticipating it.
From the “You’ve Got To Be Kidding Me” department:
“Manny Ramirez had his dreadlocks trimmed by an inch or so today, fulfilling Torre’s wish that he clean up his look.
“If I come back next year, it’ll be shorter,” Ramirez said.
Torre said he was satisfied.
“I think he was within the rules of ‘cleaning it up a little bit,’ ” Torre said.”
http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-dodfyi15-2008aug15,0,3157053.story
NSB–that’s what I call it to!!!
I hope Manny cutting his hair doesn’t affect his hitting.
dcollins, I think I borrowed it from one of your old posts. Perfect name.
Hey Boblee!! How are the Cowboys doing? We get to play the Jets this weekend with all that craziness surrounding their newly acquired quarterback.
Cowboys looking at everybody..I look for them to turn it on the last preseason game.
My Loney has a first name,
It’s J-A-M-E-S
My Loney has a second name,
It’s L-O-N-E-Y
I love to watch him every day
And if you ask me why I’ll say
‘Cause James Loney has a way

By leefink and martinloneykemp
have a good one dcollins!
Way to go LONEY!!!!!!!!!
Good goin’ N O M A R
Cool! Great RBI Nomar!!!!!!!
Have a great time dcollins ~ glad to see you back!!!
.
1 – 0 Dodgers ~ Yeah!!!
Great play by Nomar!!!!
Nomar was busy that inning.
Rest of story here:
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080814&content_id=3309174&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
NOMAR!!! You make us forget all about Angel Berroa…lol.
Kemp is a 2nd half performer.
Looks lie Myers is just throwing strikes.
btw, reading that Torre quote, I had this comic vision of Torre (played by Joe Pesci) sneaking into Manny’s (played by Damon Wayans) apartment in Boston with clippers, with the Home-Alone piano music playing as Manny (wearing a nightcap) is startled awake, opens his eyes to Torre’s grinning face, flashlight in one hand and clippers in the other, and screams.
Bud Light is giving me an active imagination tonight, heh.
Great article Northstateblues 🙂 I think it’s good that they kind of met half way on this issue.
Another gold for Phelps in the 200 IM! 6 straight!
northstateblues ~ just a little, but it’s still funny LOL!!! Joe Pesci as Torre would be great!!!
Kuroda is rockin’ right now ~ score him some runs Dodgers!!!
Howard reminds me of Andruw.
I see Howard as a left handed Dave Kingman.
Looks like we might have a pitcher’s duel on our hands. Keep it up Kuroda!!
Russell has been sitting to close to Andruw, and he’s been chasing low outside pitches.
Look like Myers pitched differently to Loney than anyone else. Was it the triple?
Myers beats women, I hate him!
seeskybout2rain Boy! That brings back memories of some looong tape measure shots Kingman used to launch.
What’s gotten into Nomar tonight? He must’ve taken the Time Tunnel back to the days when he was young and a BoSox.
stop spoiling the olympics
MATTHEW RYAN KEMP
FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All right Kemp!
M A T T Y really taged #14.
“Oh, Yeah” is right, Matty K.
YEAH MATT!!!!!!!!!! I missed the HR ’cause I had to mute the radio to keep from spoiling the Olympics.
in 2008, a West Coaster has little hope of acheiving an unspoiled Olympics anymore, though, but the pursuit is the pleasure in this case, heh.
Manny missed it by that much!!!
Better be careful this inning…..
This the 9th time this year that Kuroda has pitched through the 7th inning, according to my count.
Pierreemw: Wow! Kuroda’s become a good innings-eater when he’s on his game. Money well spent.
Way to go Casey and Russell!!!
B L A K E comes through again.
Quite a pickup, this guy.
10 RBI.
As good as Kuroda was tonight with his pitch count, he could have gone at least another inning.
Nice inning by Kuo ~ come on boys ~get some runs!!!
Another KUO holds them
Quite a guy this KUO.
Nice job Mr. Ethier !!!
Nice hustle, Dre!!!
A shut ’em’ down inning= Status Kuo.
Leave Kuo in there to pitch
USA 3 Japan 0 first inning no outs. 2 home runs for USA
Bring out the broom boys -you just swept the Phillies back home ~ wonderful job to all Dodgers!!!!!!!!!
What does Kuo say?
I would never have believed we would take 4 from the Phills. Now lets take 3 from the Brewers.
And what does Kuo say???
I don’t know what he says.. Where’s jhall when you need him?
enhanted -what does Kuo say?
FuKuo!!!
Fu-Cue!!!
AWESOME!! Sweeping the Big Bad Phillies! I gotta say I like this two headed monster to close out games. It seems to work well so far with Kuo & Broxton.
Fu-Q!!!!
I forgot the “c” in enchanted – I’m sorry – my bad – I’m still brain dead I’m afraid – LOL!!!
Fu Cue!!!!!!!!!
Oh hell, Kuo says it all!!!
Ice Cream???
We hadn’t thought of what Kuo would say, I guess. We need to figure that one out before next time – LOL!!!
First 4 game sweep of the Phils in 46 years.
If anybody told me this at the start of this series I would think they hadn’t been following baseball that close.
This is incredable and what we have seen here all I can say is we now have one hellava team.
BRING ON THE BREW CREW.
I think they have to gain a game in the standings once they’re tied or ahead for ice cream.
Dag!
LOL!!! Do they have ice cream everyday they are in first? I’m not sure..hmmmmm
Yes nells, we didn’t plan for the Kuo contingency.
I agree pierres, I didn’t think they stood a chance at a sweep going into the series.
Very well said PierreEW – This Dodger team is getting it done, big time right now 🙂
Yeah Pierres, the last time the Dodgers swept the Phils in a 4-game series, the Giants could still remember their last World Series win!

This team is definitely jelling. Maybe a reprise of the 2007 Rockies??
That’s good eric!!!!! I will have to use that one here – LOL!!!
I said that with you in mind!
ndeschenes ~ short but sweet tonight, stressing the sweet part, of course. It’s great to hear from you on a night the Dodgers sweep the Phillies for the first time in 46 years. Maybe we will make it five in a row, and we will hear from you tomorrow as well. Have a wonderful evening, ndeschenes, and a spectacular tomorrow ~
Its obvious we now have to plan for contingencies out of the bullpen.
What does Sturtze say?
ndeschenes, are the Dodgers wearing you out?
EatSturtze?
eric – my hubby says “Ha ha – I know the Giants suck”. At least he knows that fact. LOL!!!
enchanted ~ eric might be on to something for Sturtze. I have never heard of him until today. What about Kuo?
Hubby sounds like a together guy, nelly!
You gotta like the way they talk on Rotoworld:
“Andruw Jones and Delwyn Young will begin minor league rehab assignments on Saturday.
It’s debatable if either player is truly injured, or if they’re just being stashed for roster concerns. The Dodgers hope that some time in the minors will help Jones resemble mediocrity. By starting his rehab now, Young won’t exceed his maximum number of rehab games before rosters are expanded.”
Works for me!
Troncoso – Oh Lay!!
Park – Chan Ho-bagged
eric ~ being 10 1/2 games out both him and my son are at least not giving me a bad time anymore. They know the Giants truly do suck more than the Dodgers right now. And if Michael decides to say something, all I have to say to Michael is the word “Standings” and he shuts up -LOL!!!
That’s good enchanted!!!! LMAO!!!!
“1954”
“Oh – for – SF”
I always sleep better after a win so, night all.
eric ~ you and my husband would probably get along pretty good. You are both into sports, your kids and cars (he has a 68 two-toned blue mustang). We seem to have a very similar family dynamic in kids’ ages and things we do together as a family.
Good night, enchanted! And thank you for your kind words.
And we both have good taste in women!!
yes, I am sure about that, too!!!
We haven’t talked about the impending instant replay.
Is that really going to happen? Instant replay…
It looks like they’re setting it up right now:
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3535339
I see a point in wanting it, but I don’t think I would like to see it happen. I just like the game the way it is, and I am willing to take the bad calls in order to keep it that way (IMO).
Interesting fact I did not know is that Lou Gehrig used to speed skate – that’s amazing!!!!
I’m torn, actually. I’m really a traditionalist. I hate the DH, for instance. On the other hand, I certainly like the idea of “getting it right”.
What I’m thinking about is this: once they open the door I see them eventually going farther. Force outs. Tag plays. Balls and strikes.
It gave him some big thighs, didn’t it? I’m very pleased that you like the book. I just love all those stories. I was just looking at my copy for a while this evening. Speaking of Gehrig, look at page 64. Is that or is that not Paul Newman?
Yes, I definitely see that point. When will enough be enough?
On the post-game interviews Ethier said he liked Manny’s long dreads!
definitely!!! How funny!! I also think Ted Williams looks a little like Grady Sizemore. At least that’s who I thought of when I saw the picture.
And Rogers Hornsby looks like someone famous from today’s world, but I can’t think of his name.
I see what you mean but I can’t place him either, nelly.
kahli, denial ain’t just a river in Egypt.
sara ~ have a wonderful time in Vegas!! It’s going to be very hot, so be careful!!
I don’t know about the D’Backs but I think we have a lot of winning in front of us.
sara, don’t forget to leave gas money in your car!!! 🙂 Drive safely (if you’re driving) and have fun!
Kahli ~ I would think most of the players are okay with Manny’s dreds, don’t you?
The Dbags go to Houston and have their big 3 going. We’d best play the Brewers tough.
The only reason I can think of that we’d be after an infielder is if they don’t expect Raffy back.
Sara ~ have water in your car for you and your car in case you get stuck somewhere in the desert. I have done this trip at least 100 times.
thanks dnelly and eric. i don’t gamble much so i should be fine on gas money.. i just go to sleep, relax, and layout.. and go out and drink of course!!
jnv, thanks for defending me 🙂
i haven’t really had a chance to catch up on the posts, but i did see that. i appreciate it..
I’m sure that’s true sara, but I doubt that we’re the only ones.
yup dnelly, i always travel with lots of water..
oh, and i’m sure you guys mentioned it earlier.. but we sure are lucky when it comes to matchups sometimes.. we miss sabathia AND sheets this weekend.. that’s a break if i ever heard one~ whew!
sara ~ I know you know, and yes, we are very aware about us missing Sabathia and Sheets.
Are those lousy fires finally out up there?
ummm!! not completely, but much better is what the teacher I work with said. She said the worst of it is contained. It’s just a matter of keeping it from kicking up again. They need to get through a few more weeks until the weather starts to really cool down up there. However, I’m not sure how it is up north, north. I am sure northstateblues or jnv know more about those fires up there.
That’s hard to believe! I thought that was a stupid question! Those temps don’t help.
Interesting day in baseball. The ChiSox went back-to-back-to-back-to-back and Mark Kotsay hit for the cycle.
I like Kotsay!! He was one of my favorite A’s before he got traded. That’s terrific for him!!!
He’s a gen-u-ine ballplayer.
Here’s the story:
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080814&content_id=3311471&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
Great story eric!!!
http://sportsblogs.latimes.com/sports_baseball_dodgers/2008/08/cory-wade-the-i.html
.
I was really bummed when Crash gave us the news about Cory Wade. I really enjoyed watching him pitch.
Me too, but he’ll be back soon. They’re just going to rest him.
I’m trying to stay up to watch the Olympics, but failing. I’ll be back in about 7 hours, June darlin’!
The Sheriff is on vacation tomorrow. 🙂
Well that’s good. When the cats away, the mice will play is the saying around our school. Not that most of my day is playing anyway – lol!!
—————————–
Speaks to his character.
And for people that don’t have time to read that long post, we go to Quahogweatherman Ollie Johnson with the rundown. Ollie?
“TANYON’s OLD”
Thanks, Ollie.
Terry Tiffee is 6 for 12 in the 3 games at the Olympics. USA has lost 2 of first 3 games. Cuba is 3-0.
LMAO!!! Kuo says; Sayonara!!
Sweet win and sweep!!!!
Good morning jhall & boblee ~ great win last night. Enough timely hitting and great pitching. Let’s continue our winning ways with the Brewers.
Good Morning, trueblu!!
Godd morning dnelly ~ Any fun meetings today?
No – thank goodness!!! I just have to finish putting up bulletin boards (2 more), putting out student supplies and a few lesson plans to get me through the first few days. I should finish set up today, and hopefully just have to work on lesson plans tomorrow.
LOL!!!
Did you see any of the Olympics last night? The gymnasts look like toddlers. Their legs are huge and can hardly walk. Phelps was amazing, wasn’t he?
Geez!!!!! At least you feel like you’ve got your best team available out there and have a good chance to win the game.
xox ~ I hope Joe keeps the same lineup for a while. It seems to work and you are right, every night there is a new hero.
I agree Tru. Use the Lowe/Penny money to go after CC or other “true” ace.
Wow, CC would be great. Can you imagine the Dodgers putting out the money for both Manny & CC. Wouldn’t that be a shock!
I think Stults can adequately handle the 5th starter spot. Funny twist, but Kuo could end up as a closer. Put Brox back in the set-up roll and let Kuo close. Leaves a big hole in the middle relief however.
I wouldn’t mind CC – that would be fun, wouldn’t it?
Gooooooood morning ITD!!!!
An early morning question: Who was the last Dodger ace? I mean, a real ace. A guy who, when you know he’s the starter for the next game you were very confident of a win.
I can’t think of anyone since The Bulldog.
The money is there. The real shock will be if Ned spends it wisely!!!!!
Couldn’t Park handle the middle relief? He’s done a pretty good job this year.
Good Morning Eric/Dear!! Questions this early – hmmmmm!! I honestly don’t think I can think of anybody after him – scary!! I can go backwards and think of many, but not forwards – hmmm good question 🙂
Eric ~ I don’t think we’ve had an ace since Orel.
Good morning dad!! Since Orel, the only thing close to a true ace was Kevin Brown for his first couple of years.
So, is Casey Blake done after this year, or is he yet to be determined?
Maybe Kershaw can become our new ace!
I think Billz and Kersh are our 1,2 punch right now, so hopefully they can remain that way for a while.
Billz and Kersh could emerge as our future Koufax and Drysdale. They certainly have the talent. They both look to be heading in the right direction.
You are right dnelly & jhall. Let’s just keep both of them healthy and happy. I mean, don’t let either one of them get out of Dodger blue.
jhall ~ That would be awesome if that comes to pass.
It sure would Nelly. Even if it just comes close it will be very good.
Billz is already starting to emerge as a front line starter. I think Kersh is a couple of years away. I’d like to stick them behind a CC or Sheets for 2 or 3 years as they develope.
Yes, that would be just fabulous!! Which would you prefer – Sheets or CC? hmmm-
Since we are willing to spend the money, why not both! LOL
I’d still be OK with getting Maddux for the stretch run. It would be great to have his influence in the clubhouse and on Kersh and Billz!!
Have a great morning.
.
dnelly, nells, nelle, mom, June/Mrs. Bronson, Debbie, Miss Debbie, Debra, Mrs. Nelson ~ ETHIERAHOLICS ~ ALL OF US!!!!
Have a great day Mere Nelle’!!!!!
jhall, I’m with you 100% on Maddux. Time’s a-wastin’. Get him now.
TruBlu, the Mrs Bronson is meant for YOU!
Thanks, eric. I thought I read somewhere yesterday where Joe really wanted Maddux. So, maybe it will happen.
From the Times:
Reaction: That explains it. Good move.

look how stupid d-back fans are saying they can still win this division the dbacks are done already they can not match up with the dodgers
http://gocrazy.mlblogs.com/archives/2008/08/dback_and_dodgers.html#comments
I believe that about Penny. He and Pierre are two of a kind. It’s all about “ME” and not what’s best for the team!
this proves that the dodgers have the best all around pitching starting pitching and bullpen the have the best ERA IN THE MAJORS!!!!
I dont know why people always say that are pitching sucks
our pitchings great and i hope its great in october
eduardo ~ I agree with you on the fact that our pitching is under-rated. We certainly have as good a bullpen as anyone else. It kind of a good thing that the Dodgers are flying under the radar, that way we can sneak past the Dbacks and win our division.
What does Hong-chih say?

Glad you’re here, enchanted!
Talofa everyone!!!
Just read that Sunday’s game is the game of the week on TBS. Wow, Kerhsaw & Suppan
Eric,
Not sure if they were “true” aces but I always liked Nomo and Martinez (Ramon).
For all of you old-timers, here’s a trip down memory lane. I didn’t and couldn’t and wouldn’t change a word.
Danny Kaye’s D-o-d-g-e-r-s Song
So, I say D
I say D-O,
D-O-D
D-O-D-G,
D-O-D-G-E-R-S
Team, team, team, team!
Oh!
I say O-M,
O-M-A
O-M-A-L,
O-M-A-L-L-E-Y
Oh really? No, O’Malley!
Sandy Koufax, oh my Drysdale,
Maury Wills, I love you so.
And we defy
Defy the J-I,
J-I-N
J-I-N-T,
The J-I-N-T-S, Giants!
Play ball!
Orlando Cepeda is at bat with the bases jammed.
Orlando Cepeda, with a wham, bam, he hit a grand slam.
In the very first inning, but it’s only the begining,
In the third, like a bird, we get two on, none away.
Then Fairly hits into a double play.
Here comes Big Frank Howard, yessiree,
Boy, what a swing! Strike three.
Oh dem B
Oh dem B-U,
B-U-M
B-U-M-S.
Dem bums, dem bums, dem dry bums.
Oh they may be bums, but they’re my bums.
Top of the fifth, say hey Willy Mays
Hits a three bagger down the right field line.
But he’s out trying to stretch it to a homer,
As Roseboro tags him on the bottom of the spine.
With a crack you can hear
All the way back up to
San Francisco, open your hospitals!
Charge!
Inning six, Maury Wills
Draws a walk, in the coach’s box
Leo Durocher, Leo Durocher
Starts to wiggle and to twitch.
A signal? No, an itch.
Go Maury, go Maury, go go go!
Maury goes, the catcher throws,
Right from the solar plexus.
At the bag he beats the tag
That mighty little waif,
And umpire Conlin cries, `Yer out!`
Out? Out???
Down in the dugout Alston glowers,
Up in the booth Vin Scully frowns.
Out in the stands O’Malley grins,
Attendance fifty thousand.
And what does O’Malley do?
Charge!
Bottom of the ninth, four to nuttin`,
Last chance, push the button!
Oh we’re pleading, begging, on our knees,
Come on you Flatbush refugees!
Maury Wills at bat, hit it for me once,
Stu Miller throws, Maury bunts.
Cepeda runs to field the ball and Hiller covers first,
Haller runs to back up Hiller,
Hiller crashes into Miller,
Miller falls, drops the ball, Conlin calls `Safe!`
Yea, Maury!
Gilliam up, Miller grunts.
Miller throws, Gilliam bunts.
Cepeda runs to field the ball and Hiller covers first,
Haller runs to back up Hiller,
Hiller crashes into Miller,
Miller falls, drops the ball, Conlin calls `Safe!`
Yea, Conlin!
Willie Davis gets a hit
And Tommy does the same,
Here comes Mr. Howard
With a chance to win the game.
Hit it once!
Big Frank bunts?!?
Cepeda runs to field the ball, so does Hiller, so does Miller Miller hollers ‘Hiller`,
Hiller hollers `Miller,`
Haller hollers `Hiller,` points to Miller with his fist,
And that’s the Miller Hiller Haller Halleluia Twist!
The Davises score, it’s four to four,
And Howard’s still rounding the bases.
From second to third, it’s almost absurd,
Amazement on everyone’s faces.
He’s heading for home, he hasn’t a chance,
The poor lad is gonna be dead.
But the ball hits him right in the seat of his pants
And he scores! That’s using your head.
So I say D
I say D-O,
D-O-D-G-E-R-S.
The team that`s all heart,
All heart and all thumbs,
They’re my Los Angeles, your Los Angeles,
Our Los Angeles…
Do you really think we’ll win the pennant?
Bums!
Ooh, ooh, ooh dem bums
And here is a link to Mr Kaye singing it. You’ll have to put up with some dopey LEGO video, but it’s worth it:
