Tonight's game – Beimel is everywhere
It’s bobblehead night, and Joe Beimel’s parents are likely going to be pregame guests on FSN Prime Ticket so if you can’t come to the game, tune in.
Here’s the lineup:
Pierre, CF
Kemp, RF
Kent, 2B
Manny, LF
Blake, 3B
Nomar, SS (off the DL)
Martin, C
Loney, 1B
Kershaw, P

Quoth The Shortstop
.
Once upon a diamond clearly, while I wondered, weak and bleary,
Over many a strange and curious number of injury lore,
While I nodded, nearly slogging, suddenly there came a blogging,
As of some one gently clogging, clogging the I T D core.
“‘Tis some odd Joey,” I mumbled, “blogging the I T D core-
Only him, and nothing more.”
.
No-mah, his instinct I remember was near a bleak September,
And each and ev’ry dying member pulled him to the disabled list.
Untimely I wished Cabrera;- vainly Ned had sought Berroa
From my notes I ceased my sorrow- sorrow for the lost Nomore-
For the rare and disjointed hitter whom the angels name Nomore-
No-mah here for evermore.
.
And the strained collateral of the ligament medial
Chilled me- filled me with horrific pains I never felt before;
So that now, to still the ranting of my brain, I stayed recanting,
“‘Tis some dumb Joey requesting hearing of I T D core-
Some damn dumb Joey requesting hearing of I T D core-
This is him, and nothing more.”
.
Very soon my chants grew stronger; slowing first but then no longer,
“Hey,” said I, “or worse, truly you’re bullshi**ing and you’re a bore;
But the fact is I was logging, and so roughly you came blogging,
And so meekly you came clogging, clogging the I T D core,
That I was not sure I read you”- here I opined with the core;-
Madness there, and nothing more.
.
Deep into that madness thinking, long I sat there wondering, blinking,
Doubting, writing chants no bloggers ever dared to chant before;
But the silent blog went on, and as the afternoon wore on,
Very few comments were entered about the whispers, “Nomore!”
Thus I whisper, and the internet confirms the name, “Nomore!”-
Clearly shortstop, and nothing more.
.
Back to the word processor, I typed words from my professor,
Soon again I saw an article more convincing than before.
“Surely,” said I, “surely he has yet another oblique strain:
Or could it be, then another abdominal muscle tore-
Let me see then, some ribcage muscle gore or his wrist is sore;-
Could again his groin be sore?
.
Open I the Daily News, and the LA Times it renews
In them they spoke of a shortstop who hit well in days of yore;
No bit of whining made he; not a call to mama made he;
But, without a strained left calf or his fractured hand of half-
Perched upon the dugout steps and just for the I T D core-
Perched, and sat, and nothing more.
.
Then this ex Red Sox man came trippin’, my ‘magination’s rippin’
For another decent bat in the lineup we’d have in store
“Though your head’s not shorn and shaven, you,” I said, “art sure no Hu,
Oft injured Achilles tendon and how have you been mendin’
Tell me now whatever part of you could you have next be wore?”
Quoth the shortstop, “Nah – Nomore.”
.
Much I marvelled this ungainly fowl to hear discourse so plainly,
Though its answer little meaning- little relevancy bore;
For we cannot help agreeing that no living human being
Ever yet was blest with seeing bird above his chamber door-
Bird or beast upon the sculptured bust above his chamber door,
With such name as “Nah – Nomore.”
.
But the shortstop, sitting lonely on the maple bench, spoke only
That one word, as if his game in that one word he did adore.
Nothing further then that he knew- not his body then he renewed-
Till I once again him rebuked, “other fiends DL’d before-
Oh tomorrow he will leave me, as our hopes get blown before.”
Then the man said, “Nah – Nomore.”
.
Startled at deep potential the lineup eight dimensional,
“Doubtless,” said I, “what he says is what he’s always said before,
Signed by unhappy Colletti played by JoJo and Grady
Injured oft and oftener till his ligaments all are tore-
Till the wretches he called his fans they could no longer be bore
Of ‘Never – Nah – Nomore.”
.
But the shortstop he came trippin’, my ‘magination rippin’,
Straight I tossed a maple bat at the shortstop, I T D core;
Then while I’m bourbon drinking, I re-blogged myself to linking
Trippin’ into trippin’, thinking what this ominous Sox of yore-
What this thin, unseemly, ghostly, gaunt and ominous Sox of yore
Meant in moaning “Nah- Nomore.”
.
Here I sat once recanting, but no curse words could be chanting,
To the man whose idiosyncratic tics are like a *****;
Touch the helmet, touch the bat, give us a couple of toe taps,
All after you’ve pulled on and off those glove adjustments of yours,
After all the crazy game delaying tactics – what’s in store,
He shall press, ah, nah Nomore!
.
Then methinks Dodgers are closer, almost first without a true closer,
Brox helped by Kuo, Beimel, Park, Johnson, and thank God not Proctor.
“Bum,” I cried, “that Conte thinks you’re ready – by God you’d best be
Get a hit, get a hit, if you don’t, you will be shown the door!
Send that bum Druw to the DL and don’t go there anymore!
Quoth the Shortstop, “Nah – Nomore.”
.
“Neddie!” said I, “thing of evil!- Neddie still, if Gint or devil!-
Whether Conte sent, or whether Colletti bought you from the store,
Deranged yet all non-fatigued, in this desert land enchanted- (had to keep 2nd half of this line for enchanted)
On this team your terror haunted- tell me truly, I implore-
Is there- is a division win in our future?- tell me, I implore!”
Quoth the Shortstop, “Nah – Nomore.”
.
“JoJo!” said I, “thing of evil- Jojo still, if Yank or devil!
By Blue Heaven that bends above us- by Tommy we all adore-
Tell this blue soul with twenty years of drought and just one playoff win
We shall clap if the Dodgers win with a shortstop named Nomore
Clapped a rare and brittle shortstop whom the bloggers name Nomore.”
Quoth the Shortstop “Nah – Nomore.”
.
“Be that word our sign in Series, Sox or fiend,” I shrieked resurging-
“Get thee back into the lineup and into Joe’s resurgent core!
Leave no at bat without a struggle and gives us homers and doubles,
Don’t you come off the disabled list unless you can give us more
Put Berroa on the bench and send Fat Druw Jones out the door!
Quoth the Shortstop, “Nah – Nomore.”
.
And the Shortstop, never quitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On that freaking disabled list as we come into October;
And his obliques all are straining and the hamstring is retaining,
As we remember the five games he gave us in the August moor,
And my blue soul from within this, our Inside The Dodgers core
Shall be lifted- Nah – Nomore!
Well, scurtis, you are almosty right about the darn lineup
Wow!!! Crash!! fantastic!!!!!
.
Okay ~ Pierre fans you got your wish 🙂
.
signed,
Nelly, Nells, Nelle, June, mom, Debbie, Miss Debbie, Debra and Mrs. Nelson ~ all ethieraholics
That was fantastic crash — how’d you get it there so fast. I thought for once I was going to be first.
TruBlue, I had it waiting for Nomore to come back into the lineup. Been working on this one since the first time he came off the DL earlier this season.
I see the cry baby is playing over Dre. Torre is a fool telling Manny to cut his hair. Leave him alone, and let him do what he does best, hit. What happens if he cuts his hair and stops hitting? Is Torre going to paste it back on? Torre shouldn’t care if they all have hair down to their knees as long as they produce. Don’t mess with what’s working where Manny is concerned.
Remember ~ Be nice to JP. We don’t want to bruise his $9 million ego.
” Juan believed, and so it came to pass, that Ethier, the warrior poet, Dionysius reborn , became so intoxicated from the sweet nectar poured out upon his soul from myriads of pink and blue clad nymphs, would at the key moment in the battle, become blinded by the light, losing sight of the pearl descending from heaven, and which taketh away both his honor and place in line, yet cease not the adulation of praise from sentient mortals.” – Book of Obi, Chapter XVI
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
okay crash — I get it now. And fliegel ~ I know how you feel about Manny’s hair. At first I didn’t care either but, it seems to be getting longer everyday. If Joe made others cut their hair, Manny should have to at least trim his. That’s all Joe wanted, was a trim — he doesn’t have to get a buzz
Here’s the lineup:
Pierre, CF
Kemp, RF
Kent, 2B
Manny, LF
Blake, 3B
Nomar, SS (off the DL)
Martin, C
Loney, 1B
Kershaw, P
Joe: They say we’re old and we can’t see
Anything good about walks or OBP.
Juan: Well I don’t care if all that’s true
‘Cause you got me, and baby I got you
Juan: Babe
Both: I got you babe I got you babe
Joe: They say our love won’t win no games
But I don’t care if we go down in flames.
Juan: I guess that’s so, I don’t care either
as long as I get to start instead of Ethier
Juan: Babe
Both: I got you babe I got you babe
Juan: I got 8….point 8 mil, and I put you…. in my will.
Joe: And when I’m sad, you’re a clown
And if I get scared, you’re always around
Joe: So let them say your hat’s too big
‘Cause I don’t care, let them call me pig
Juan: Then put your little hand in mine
There ain’t no hill or mountain we can’t climb
Juan: Babe
Both: I got you babe I got you babe
Juan: I got you to write my name
Joe: I got you to lead the game
Juan: I got you to pull up my socks
Joe: I got you to take me on walks
Both: I got you babe
Joe is starting JP over Ethier because Juan bats .500 and a 1.000 slugging pct against Hamels. Never mind that it’s a sample size of two (1 for 2).
The lineup is not bad except for the top, but I can live with it if it’s just a lefty/righty thing, and not based on yesterday’s game.
*sound of thunderous applause* by Obi for the post by Crash24
Quote of the Day from the Dodger Clubhouse:
Ethier to JP: “Would you like some smoked gouda to go with your vintage whine?”
crash, WOW!!! Veeeeery impressive!
Obi & eric ~ you two make this site a very enjoyable adventure everyday.
I’m actually ok with Pierre starting tonight, but I’ll tell you, if Torre keeps playing games with this lineup, and not steadily leaving Ethier in there, then we’re not making the playoffs. Pierre spot starting, or just starting against lefties is fine. But E should get a majority of the at bats.
reposted from the end of the last thread:
“If it was so obvious that Beltre was on ‘roids, then why wasn’t his name in the Mitchell Report? I’m sorry but I’m not going to just assume that my all time favorite player was a cheater.
By swood@rcn.com on August 12, 2008 1:17 PM”
I liked Beltre when he was here. I hated it when he left.
List of my favorites who had feet of clay:
OJ Simpson
Steve Garvey
Steve Howe
Kobe Bryant
Eric Gagne
Paul Loduca
Mark McGuire
Marion Jones
Mike Tyson
and on and on………..
I was angry years ago when Charles Barkley protested that “I don’t believe professional athletes should be role models. I believe parents should be role models…. It’s not like it was when I was growing up. My mom and my grandmother told me how it was going to be. If I didn’t like it, they said, “Don’t let the door hit you in the *** on your way out.” Parents have to take better control.”
He was right.
I hope that, for your sake swood, Beltre didn’t juice in ’04. But you better be ready for it to happen.
Thanks eric!!! We haven’t seen that song in a while.
.
So, obi – does this mean JPs thought bubbles are going to be the many things he is thinking while in center field, hoping a ball doesn’t bounce his way or go in the gap between he and Manny, and every time he comes up to bat and goes his Juan for Juan with a few ground outs and a pop fly.
Thank you Trublue44, back at you! 🙂
obi – you could do Ethier thought bubbles, too – LOL!!!
Nelly, we just want to see JP throw a guy out at home, like Matt did. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! Couldn’t even throw it to 2nd.
It’s good to see Nomar back since he’s a bigger(by far) THREAT at the plate than Berroa.
I don’t think anybody thought they saw the last of Pierre starting. I guess it’s Andre time to sit.
This switching will probably go on for the rest of the season.
I hope our guys can be as aggressive as they were last night.
Good to see the fine showing while being telecast on ESPN2. So some of my Met fans friends could see them at their best.—- I watched Scully on MLB.TV
BUT TONIGHT’S ANOTHER NIGHT
LET’S GO DODGERS!!!!!——-GIVE IT ALL YOU GOT.
Anybody know how Juan managed to get an assist this year? It came one day when he was playing CF.
PierreEW ~ I agree with you about Nomar being back. It would have been awful to have both Pierre & Berroa playing.
Dnelly I was thinking of doing either a Mark Sweeney or Larry Bowa Thought Bubble tonight. Bowa should be interesting since for the last couple of games he’s seems to thinking he’s Rich Donnelly -LOL
TruBlue44 on Manny is a special player, and I know his hair is long, but if he hits, who cares. This isn’t a beauty contest. If I were Torre, I’d leave him alone. What happens if he cuts it, and then he stops producing? If I were Torre, I’d tell him wrap it up and try to tuck as much as you can under your hat, but to make him cut it just might make him uncomfortable enough to stop hitting.
Well, Pierre sure knows how to ruin a perfectly good lineup. What the heck are Loney and Martin doing 7th and 8th? At least put Pierre’s sorry butt in the 8 hole. Like he can hit lefties better than Loney! Damn you Joe Torre!!!!!!
G’day and good morning from down under. Haven’t posted much lately .. The Aussie swim team has taken up much of my viewing time. Read the lineup and noted that Tueday must not be a day of the week in America. Didn’t Joe say that Ethier was his “everyday” player now? Maybe he calls it Tues.
.
I have no doubt that Normar’s bat is a welcome addition but I still worry that his lack of range and arm coupled with the almost stationary defence of Kent might just give up more hits than he can get back. I know I’ll be glad to be wrong.
.
Now can we get win 2 on end? We don’t seem to be able to put together those big win streaks that go hand in hand with a division winning team but today/tonight is another chance to start one.
That would be great obi !
.
dnelly ~ ethieraholic
Ah, Ethier would be a good one! I think I’ve got some good material for Nomar as well.
I agree with you fliegel about Manny’s hair. But, then everyone who wants to should be allowed to wear theirs any way they want.
Good Morning, rodmky!!! The Aussie swim team is doing pretty good, as well. We are just assuming JP is playing because of the lefty pitching tonight. So, let’s hope this is JP getting a spot start and not Torre talking to Juan’s mama once again. I’m trusting it’s a spot start.
.
Nelly ~ ethieraholic ~
Crash ~ did Juan really have an assist? Are you sure he didn’t throw it almost to 2nd and then the 2nd baseman threw it to shortstop and then — out!!
[ Anybody know how Juan managed to get an assist this year? It came one day when he was playing CF. ] ,br>
Don’t remember, but I bet you anything he threw out a:
(a) catcher, (b) pitcher (c) a runner who fell down, (d) a player who ignored the 1B coach
Is JP better than Ethier against lefties enough to cover up his awful arm in CF versus the Phillies? Torre is on drugs.
It had to be an out at 2nd vs. home plate, but he did have one assist. I looked it up this morning on the stat page.
scott ~ the answer is “no”, but I am allowing the JP fans to have their one day.
.
Nelly ~ ethieraholic ~
Ethier should be back in the starting lineup tomorrow. Blanton is a right-handed pitcher. This will be someone Manny will be well prepared for since he has played the A’s on many occasions.
.
Nelly ~ ethieraholic ~
Yes, Dnelly I remember it as being an assist to
2nd base
Ok, Nelly, but….me think Pierre is LH and Ethier is LH, no?
Message for Joe Torre:
EVERY GAME FRICKING COUNTS!!!!!!!!
Why in hell can’t Joe stick with a set batting order, even if he wants to throw Pierre a bone? Loney goes 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs in the five hole…so why not move him to 8th…makes sense to me. Ohhhhhhhhhhh, that’s right, Hamels is a lefty. All the more reason to bat Pierre, a lefty, lead-off. And by all means bat Nomar, who hasn’t played in over two weeks, in the sixth hole, ahead of both Loney and Martin. And yes, Blake has earned the 5-hole–after striking out and grounding out with the bases loaded last night, both times with with less then two outs, and moving NO ONE. Joe is lucky some player doesn’t throw a punch at him. To quote my favorite line here…”Fire Joe, fire the guy that hired Joe…”
I’m with you scott!
[Joe is lucky some player doesn’t throw a punch at him. ]
Andruw Jones has thrown punches at Joe Torre everyday this season, he just can’t connect.
Did anybody notice Manny adjusting his helmet getting out of the box during his double in the third inning? Like his dreads and bandanna don’t fully fit underneath his helmet? Not that I give a rat’s a&&. I could see as the ball came off his bat that it was going places. Vinny also makes me laugh when he complains about Manny’s jersey. The way Manny is playing, I wouldn’t care if he plays in his pajamas.
Prediction: IF Ferk makes it back in September, and ASSUMING that Nomar stays healthy, that Nomar will play at least several games if not the majority of them at first base.
crash ~ it looks like Manny is playing in his pajamas.
I know Joe pretty good. Dre will be back in there the next 2 games against Blanton and Myers and then JP back Friday against the lefty Parra.
Good to hear from you Rod. The Aussie swim team usually has a pretty good showing at the Olympics but our Mr. Phelps seems to be getting all the attention on our side of the world.
The other day one of our illustrious song writers posted a ditty to Joe that he cannot make up his mind. While being a funny song the subject matter seems to be right on. I can understand giving a player a day off here and there and I can even understand hunches or matchups. But it is clear Joe can’t decide who to play from one day to the next or where to place them in the lineup.
enchanted, please no. Although, who would be surprised when one of your leading hitters bats 8th and a guy with a sub .300 OBP (in the lead off spot) is leading off?
First, I’m glad to see Nomar back on the lineup.
Second if Torre has rules then everyone should follow the rules…regardless of how great of a hitter you are. Manny should cut his hair. But if Torre has this whole clean cut image, then why was Martin sporting a mohawk for awhile? Nothing against Martin…love him…and he looked great with a mohawk…better then when he had that lil’ mustache…
Third, well JP should get some playing time, we are all a team. DODGER’S BABY! I’m not happy with Ethier being the one to sit, but hey if he understands we should too. Can we all get along…Last year the DODGER’S started out great but then they (players) all started arguing among each other….ssssshhhh pips…can we all just get along. We don’t want the same problem as last year. We want to WIN!
Fourth…oooh I got another ETHIERaholic word….ETHIERrific!
PEACE OUT!
Rose – Still an Ethieraholic!
ENJOY THE GAME! THINK BLUE!
Torre’s lineups hurt my brain…
enchanted ~ don’t worry, Nomar can’t stay healthy. Something always happens to him. It’s just his frail body!
Lineup looks good.
Anybody want some chesse with there wine…
Go dodgers.
trueblue44. Your right. everyone should be able to wear their hair the way they want. They should also be able to have music in the clubhouse like other teams do. This isn’t the military, it’s baseball, it’s supposed to be fun.
1) With the indefensible defensive play plauging our middle infield, Nomar is a welcome return. It looks like he got over his bad hitting bug of last year. Berroa/Ozuna are not getting the job done (with their sub .300 OBPs, and this was not a surprise), and come September I hope we see more Hu. But if Furcal makes it back healthy, that may on the net be even bigger than Manny.
2) While I’d like to see him as part of the Dodger organization, I really like the job Hershiser does as a broadcaster. He’s probably the best former player on ESPN for commentary. Granted, that’s not a high bar to achieve, but he is a good commentator.
3) Hamels has not faced the Dodgers before. Maybe that’s why Pierre starts – he was 1 for 2 with a double against him!
4) Matt Kemp is a regular, and he’s really a 5-tool guy. He’ll still be under 30 by the time he’s eligible for free agency – we should extend him so that doesn’t happen. The only two players I want to lock into long-term deals more are Martin and Billingsley.
5) Clayton Kershaw faces Cole Hamels tonight. Combined, they are the same age as Randy Johnson, starting tonight for the Diamondbacks. As Jiminenez faces Johnson for the Rockies, let’s hope that youth prevails tonight.
Fliegel – Joe doesn’t strike me as being a fun guy.
I agree with you fliegel. I think as long as a player shows up on time and plays hard, he should be allowed his own personal style. That’s what makes America the land of the free!
Man, talk about taking one for the team! WHEW! Worse than looking for a needle in the haystack.
Sunday, May 4th
In Colorado
Juan Pierre started the game in left, moved to center for the bottom of the 8th with, get this, Mark Sweeney going into left!
Brad Hawpe hits a ground rule double. Chris Iannetta moves him to third with a fly ball. Jonathan Herrera (rookie middle infielder, playing in his 14th ML game) singles to left, driving in Hawpe. Clint Barmes hits a line drive to center. Pierre catches it and doubles Herrera at first base to end the inning.
Although I may have been watching, I don’t remember this. I figure one of two things happened.
1 – The line drive was a sinking one and the rookie Herrera thinks it’s going to fall for a hit. Or, (and don’t get mad at me swood)
2 – The rookie Herrera thought there was two out.
Here’s the link:

Challenge met, dodgereric heads for the barn………..
Joe doesn’t seem like a fun guy. He should realize he’s in LA now, a completely different lifestyle from New York.
Pierre outplays Ethier this year vs lefties by alot. I know the deal that ethier would hit vs lefties if given the chance, but both have had 80 something ABs and Pierre is getting on at a .394 clip while hitting .360 and Ethier .274 OBP while hitting .188
Playing Pierre is fine tonight.
Scott ~ I completely agree with you, but I am tired of the JP fans coming on here and blasting us for not wanting him out there with out any reasoning other than he’s got speed or he bats better against lefties than Ethier. Big effin deal!! Matt’s got speed, too, and he’s a damn good center fielder right now, and Andre has hit 3 home runs off of lefties this year out of the maybe dozen times he’s started against them. So, I am giving JP his one day a week start, and like dodgersrule says, if Andre is okay with it, then why shouldn’t we. However, if he is in the lineup tomorrow, then I will have serious problems with Mr. Torre and his really wanting to play the best 9 on the field. I still think he is sacraficing an awful lot having JP in centerfield against the Phillies, but who am I to say, I am just a fan.
.
Nelly, Nells, Nelle, June, Mom, Debbie, Miss Debbie, Debra and Mrs. Nelson ~ Ethieraholics ~
.
dodgersrule ~ love the Ethierism stuff 🙂
Did anyone catch the game on ESPN2 in HD last night? During Dre’s first AB, they kept showing Pierre in the dugout, and he looked like he was sulking. Then, after Dre got out, it showed the inside of the dugout with Dre walking in and Kemp and Pierre on the far side of the dugout. Kemp got up to talk to Dre, while Ethier said something from afar with this sulky look on his face, then turned around and went to the railing.
Happened to be in the far right side of the HD screen, so I doubt regular tv would’ve caught Juan saying something before walking off.
Here’s hoping JP goes 3-4 tonight with 2 SB “leading” the Dodgers to a win. If he does his detractors on this blog will duly note the accomplishment and thank him for it. If he doesn’t, they will duly note that as well.
OK, who took over jungar’s computer?? LOL!!!
Juan is always sitting in a corner pouting. Even when he gets to play. He’s just not a team guy.
northstateblues/mercury ~ I did see that!! It’s what JP looks like all the time.
.
lbirken – very well said 🙂
enchanted ~ I thought the same damn thing – LMAO!!!!
Eric – You rock! Great research and timely too! Hard to believe he was able to get the pill all the way to first base.
.
One-season stats against lefties are not all that statistically significant due to insufficient plate appearances. I’d prefer to look at career stats against lefties:
.
Pierre .303 BA / .348 OBP / .347 SLG / .694 OPS
Ethier .271 BA / .321 OBP / .399 SLG / .720 OPS
.
Pretty even when at the plate. But then Pierre has speed on the basepaths. But then Ethier averages 8 assists per year in the outfield, while Pierre averages only 4. All in all, they are fairly close against lefties.
dnel, didn’t that tick you off? you couldn’t hear what was said, but that vet looked young enough to earn himself membership in the Entitlement Generation.
I also notice JP sits at the far end of the dugout when he is not playing. He went there after pinch hitting last night. I can’t say he is sulking because I agree he pretty much looks the same no matter what.
While I believe we are better off not knowing, don’t you just wonder if anyone on the team said anything to JP after his comments about the Dodgers “sticking it to him” were made public?
OH yeah agree DNelly, if Ethier is not playing tomorrow, then Mr. Torre will hear it from us Ethieraholics….
JP can seat on his corner and pout all he wants…he is still NOT the fans favorite…and his attitude is just causing for him to seat in his corner on TIME-OUT for longer time.
I think Mr. Torre can have fun in SoCal..I saw his commercial and he was doing Pilates….now that’s funny.
Rose
Crash and Obi, your poems rocked, and my hat is off to you!
Defensively, I still think it’s a mistake to play JP, but for now, I don’t mind JP getting an occasional start, and I will probably even cheer on the guy ( I have my moments), as long as Ethier is getting the majority of the starts. Then again, how many times have we been through this – too many to count at this point.
Ibirken ~ we even think Juan sits in a corner on the team plane. I just don’t have the feeling he is very well liked.
lbirken, I imagine Kent might’ve had a choice word or two for JP after that article. I know JP might’ve just vented at the wrong time, but what a friggin’ time to choose, with all the LA Sports Media Mics shoved in your face.
Doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like to see Juanpy knock around the Phils for a double or triple.
nsb/mercury ~ I would just like JP to at least appear like he is having fun. Even when Andre is not playing, he is still messing around and having a good time and on the rail, not sulking in the dugout. When we were at the dbacks series, it was fun just watching Andre interact with the pitchers, and DY. Eventhough Andre wasn’t playing, he still made himself visible to the fans. And since Manny has come, it’s even gotten better, but JP still just sits there, and looks absolutely miserable. Maybe instead of coming 8-10 before a game, he needs to get more rest and maybe he won’t be, or look, so grumpy all the time.
.
dnelly ~ etheiraholic ~
gotta get ready for work… Get ’em DODGERS!!!!!!!!!
Too much energy spent on JP. I am more concerned about the inability to hold leads late in the game the past few days. I am happy for the win last night but after the previous two games our boys had us all in a tizzy in the 9th inning.
You are right Ibirken. We need a good defensive outing and timely hitting tonight. We can’t afford to give good teams like the Phillies extra opportunities.
Yeah dnel, I know what you’re saying. If I was making Juan’s salary, I’d be in a lot better mood. But seeing as how he’s such a dedicated hard-worker, I’m sure he feels bad that he’s in a position where he doesn’t have the oppurtunity to “earn his paycheck” everyday in the field, as I’m sure Ned told him he’d be everyday CF when he signed him. I’d imagine for someone who had over 400 consecutive starts coming into this season, 1 missed game is like 70.
I wish he looked like he was having fun… life’s too short to walk around with a sourpuss all the time, especially when you’re a Big League Ballplayer (making 45 million over 5 years at that).
Another big game for Kershaw. I like the way he handles himself on the mound even when things are not going his way.
well said nsb/mercury 🙂
Well put samjones1121.
Well put.
Nomar is a way better addition then Baroa.
Stop the crying.
As long as Andrew Jones is not in the lineup i am happy.
Go Dodgers!
Batting order DOES matter. It’s a comfort level and expectation of your specific job. Any player will tell you that–pro, little leaguer, or beer leaguer.
Why is Joe Torre so obsessed with veteran players?
He is the Ned Colletti of Managers.
yes, he is
Chin-Lung Hu was the Dodgers’ 2007 minor League Player of the Year and the MVP in the All Stars Future game the same year. That’s why fans are so high on him.
The “mexican guy” was Luis Maza and he’s from Venezuela.
I think enchanted had a point about when Furcal comes back we may be seeing Nomar take more spots at 1st base, increasing his veteran lineup even further. I know that’s a big “if” with Nomar staying healthy, but if that happens you are talking Russell and Matt being the only original young guns not fighting for a job, when the picture was much different a month ago, and we are still a .500 team give or take a game or two. So, has all this increase in veteran so-called power/experience/knowledge helped, not yet it hasn’t.
In reality, Torre may not care about Manny’s hair all that much. The problem is that he made Beimel cut his hair, and doesn’t want to have a double standard.
Besides, Manny cutting his hair will demonstrate to the team and to any team interested in him next year that he is a team player.
From Smithsonian Magazine.
“It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s Juan Pierre!!”
Question: Where does Juan Pierre sit on the Dodger Charter?
Answer:
Juan’s Pierre’s seat of choice is on the wings of the aircraft. Why? Because as most Dodger fans and aircraft enthusiasts know, Juan Pierre is the engine of the team. Juan Pierre’s unique ability to divide himself into four separate jet engines and propel the Dodger’s charter from one city to another, while braving all kinds of atmospheric conditions is without a doubt a marvel of 21st Century science. How does he do this and still manage to perform his duties as ball player? Newly acquired Outfielder and Rhodes Scholar Manny Ramirez explains, by writing out this formula:
JPx2 F=Mg0 ~Isp-VAc {-Ae P}
Says Ramirez, “Where JPx is the thrust of Juan Pierre expressed exponentially, Isp(vac) is the specific impulse, g0 is a standard gravity, Ae is the area of the exhaust bell at the exit of his spinchter and P is the atmospheric pressure. The variables in all of this depends on the amount of Krispy Kreme donuts that Andruw Jones has consumed before a designated flight.” Due to space limitations and time constraints Ramirez was unable to calculate the formula of thrust required by Juan Pierre to lift a Dodger charter with both Andruw Jones and Dodger GM Ned Colletti. “I think that might be a recipe for disaster, laughed the mop topped Ramirez
sam, you’re not really Joey, are you?
Awesome Obi!!!!!!!!!

“I AM A GOLDEN GOD !!!! ~ Andre Ethier “Thought Bubble” -6:28pm
LMAO!!!
not dodger-related, but kind of funny: the red sox led 10-0 after 1 inning, and now: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore?gid=280812102
What other roster move was made to add Nomar to the 25 man roster.
samjones
resign manny?? ill cheer for that! your right he should quit playing for the dodgers and go somewhere else. finally dodger fans get smart
andruw to the 15 day DL
Ayone see the Rangers-Red Sox score? 16-14 Rangers top of the 7th. Lots of runs!
freaking Druw
I don’t know who I dislike more Drew or Druw
Holy F, nice play Nomar!
I am thinking grounder to 2nd
That triple would have been way nicer if Pierre didn’t suck.
Yes Kemp!!!
Yeah. exactly. There is always one out. But dang he is tough to strike out.
Damnit Kent.
If anyone cares, Phelps just got his 4th gold of this olympics. Another world record. That makes 10 total golds for him so far. Most by anyone ever! Bravo!
Thank You BLAKE.
yay! KC…..Come on Nomar!
Phelps is a beast!
B L A K E’ S 8 RBI as a Dodger.
CLutch guys we got here.
haha, nice call on the jp at bat.
nice email address dude.
thanks. 🙂 guess who didn’t win the spelling bee in curacao?
The only reason why RUSSSSSEELLLL MARTIIIIIN has not been performing to his full capacity is because…I’ve been neglecting him with ETHIER. I’ve been so busy with rooting for Ethier to play…but don’t worry MARTIN I still love. You are still my fave CATCHER! So come on MARTIN….make the announcer say your name the way it should be called…..RUUUUUUUSSSSSSSELLLLLLLLLL MAAAAARRRRRRTTIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNN! LOL…
Rose
zona plated 2. 4-2 in the 6th. :p
That’s the ultimate seeing eye base hit…..Everything concerning Ethier vs. Pierre has been said, and said, and said. Although I don’t agree with JoJo’s reasoning, I understand it, it is what it is, andregardless of who plays and doesn’t play or where they hit or don’t hit, I support the DODGERS, regardless of any of the variables and my own personal preferences…. Manny, or anybody else for that matter, can wear their hair in whatever fashion they choose. I remember the mid-70’s A’s very well and facial hair didn’t stop them from winning 3 straight WS titles.
haha spell andrew, a n d r e w aaaaaaaaahhhh, u lose, its andrUw
If Kershaw doesn’t unstraighten his curve ball soon we’re in for a long night.
Let’s go DODGER’s….clap-clap-clap-clap-clap
Let’s go DODGER’s….clap-clap-clap-clap-clap
Maybe Clayton should forget the curve tonight.
He did O.K. with the straight fastball.——–At least against the bottom of the order.
Was there another breakout at Arkham Asylum?
Looks like Kersh has finally got his mojo workin.
Martin is really struggling right now.
Hey! Just got in from school supply shopping, but it doesn’t look too bad, and it’s still early.
.
GO DODGERS!!!
.
dnelly, June ~ ethieraholic ~ going through withdrawls 🙂
So Torre won’t have to worry about what to do with Andruw for a while, that should make it easier.
Did you guys hear Linsecum got hurt? I guess he got hit by a ball, and when he left the game, Houston blew the game open, at least that’s what my son reported to me as I walked in the door. I hate the Giants, but I do like him as a pitcher – he’s definitely has got the stuff.
Gotta love that Public Enemy No. 1!!!!!
Phelps & teammates just got another gold in the 4X200 with another world record. 5th straight gold for Phelps in these games, and 11 over all. AMAZING!
Gotta say Kersh settled down, but is it too late?,
Phelps is a truly amazing athlete – incredible!!!
If I was Pierre, that’s what I would do every time up. Bunt. They start playing in poke it over their heads.
This is the inning…..
Pierre is not as bad as some of you say.
Come on, Matty K!!! We need some Blue Lightning!!!
Watch for the double steal.
Not again.
No one is saying he doesn’t belong on a big league team, swood. But he’s not as good as Ethier and that’s a fact.
LMAO!!! I’m sorry 🙂
.
June ~ ethieraholic ~ in withdrawls – LOL!!!
Do it Manny……..
We need Manram Magic!!!!
M A N N Y’s 14th RBI as a Dodger.

” I can’t wait to bat, why is Juan staring so hard at me? Does he not like the song I chose? – -Andre Ethier Thought Bubble- 9:08pm
Hamels’ changeup has this lineup befuddled.
Have to hang tough against Hamels who’s too tough for them so far.
KUO himself again.
Do I dare say it, but I am going to say it anyway – JP is Juan for 4 – LOL!!! What can I say – it’s an automatic thing now because it’s like a broken record – Juan for 4, Juan for 4, Juan for 4, nothing changes, it’s always Juan for 4. Okay, maybe every once in a while Juan for 5, Juan for 5 – He brings so much excitement to the game, I just want to jump for joy everytime he comes up to bat – NOT!! There is absolutely nothing that impresses me about this player whatsoever. Sorry, there is not a stat in the world that will change my mind. I purely like the excitement that Andre brings to the game, whether he strikes out, grounds out, flies out, hits an opposite field double, hits a 438 ft home run, has a 10 pitch at-bat, or just walks. That’s the point, we don’t know what he is going to do. With JP it’s the same story over and over and over again – borrrrinnng.
.
Obi ~ This is Nelly’s thought bubble at 9:21 pm 🙂

Nelly ~ ethieraholic ~ And Damn proud of it!!!
Best thing that could happen——NO HAMELS.
I swear I’d walk Ramirez anyway.

It’s OK, as long as the kids don’t find out.
I’m glad you got that book. Seems like it was pretty fast. Amazing story behind the man who took the photos. Have you read that part yet?
north, can’t you get that tag back? northstateblues is one of the best ones!
Loney, you can hit into all the DPs you wish. You are my first baseman.
And I’m serious about hitting someone. There is more to protecting Manny than just putting a good bat behind him.
It’s anybody’s game.
And we need it.
I’ll try eric, it still has nsb above the comment box, but it’s coming out my 5 year old name from when I tried out the fan forums.
Hope they win it with a walk off here!
Cool, north. It’s just that between guys like you and kahli and fogey and the Cleavers, it’s like codespeak around here. I know I’m forgetting someone here.
Let’s go James! We want to sing your song!
Ack!!! Won’t give it back to me, ’cause nicknames can’t be more than 10 characters… I’ll try something else…
nsblues?
eric ~ of course!! It’s amazing they didn’t know much about him, and just the fact that he was willing to take the photographs when everyone else thought it to be too difficult. All the photographs he captured that maybe would have never been found. Just like the last line says – he was the photographer at the field of dreams – very, very fascinating and inspiring story.

Good job to Kershaw he is really showing improvement.
I think Andre just proved why he should be in the lineup every day!! Very nice Andre, very nice!!!

ANDRE EVERETT ETHIER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
.
eric ~ I was too excited!!!!
obi ~ you are way too funny!!!
That’s why Andre should play everyday.
What a nice at bat that was.
Great win over a probable playoff team. Maybe we’re starting to get there.
Early in the game I felt the Dodgers would have to score a bunch of runs because Kershaw just did not seem to have command of that curve ball. I didn’t mind as long as he was not walking batters. But he got better as the game went along keeping the Dodgers and I am still convinced he is the real deal.
This was a huge win against a good team. The offense still is struggling but at least now they have some confidence they can come back in a close game.
It was a great at bat eric, he waited for his pitch and smacked it.
🙂 Thanks dnelly… really happy for Dodgers and especially for Andre.
Andre says: Fuc-Phew!!!!!
hey eric, I took your suggestion, should come up at some point. I’m sure whenever that Movable Type program lets me log back into my blog, I’ll be able to get my name back.
I meant keeping the Dodgers in the game.
carcyn, you’re right about Kersh. When he starts getting the calls on Public Enemy #1, look out!
eric ~ I didn’t even realize he was up. I was reading the book thinking when he came into bat the first time, it was just to pinch hit. I didn’t know he took the field. The next thing I know Bill is yelling at me, Andre’s up, and by the time I got there, he had one foul ball and then the single – how crazy that was!!!
.
Nelly ~ ethieraholic and very proud one too.
.
Sara, Amy and Acardona saw a fabulous game.
well said jhall!!!!
LMAO JHALL!!!!!!
jhall – that is very, very good!!! and good evening to you fine sir!!!
jhall ~ The more you say that one, the better it is – LOL!!!!!!
LOL, jhall!!!
Merci gang. LOL!!! Gee, what a great win!!!
He keeps this up and I might have to get a little gay on him myself. Not that there’s anything wrong with that……
I’ll take those two losses to the Halloweeners anyday if it results in two wins against a division leader. (I’d gladly take two more wins, too).
The Halloweeners can go cry in their Giant pillows until September 19th.
Nice winner by Ethier. Great game.
.
Looks like another good outing by Kershaw.
.
I know that Cole Hamels is a “tough lefty”–and I know that Loney went 0-4, but how can you hit the guy who leads the team in batting average 8th? I did not see the way he got pitched to, but hitting in front of Kershaw (a good and soon-to-be-great pitcher, but not a very good hitter) can’t have helped much.
.
At least I “get” Torre’s “logic” tonight, and in the end it works out, so that’s good. I think we’ll see a more familiar line-up tomorrow (though, it’s going to be interesting to see how Nomar fits in and works out, but I hope he can pick up where he left off and give us the rest of the year). I would probably go Kemp, Ethier, Martin, Manny, Loney, Kent, Nomar, Blake, but as long as those 8 guys are in the line-up, we can’t really go too wrong (Kent probably will hit higher than he “should” because of his years of experience, but I still think he can kick it in for another couple of months, so I can live with that unless he shows that it’s unacceptable, which probably won’t be the case).
.
Even with that bad set of games in SF, I continue to think that this team is full of guys who are the heart of a World Championship caliber ballclub, and I think they are coming together now, and can take a good run into this post-season.
Gosh dad, don’t go gettin’ all mushy and stuff on us. LOL!!
Don’t worry, son. It’s the dad on the Brady Bunch, not me.
LMAO!!!! That’s funny eric 🙂
.
In all seriousness – Andre is such a great role model right now, and that is what is so impressive about him. He can be moping around feeling sorry for himself, but he isn’t. He is taking a totally different approach than many athletes would, and that should be inspiring to anyone.
LOL!!!
nsb – the halloweeners lost 12-3 today to Houston after Linsecum went out of the game due to injury.
You make a good point leekfink — it’s always great to beat a good team and especially in our last at bat!
LOFL eric!!!!!
leekfink ~ it’s great to hear from you as always 🙂 How’s it going in Denver?
Nice observation as usual, Lee. All we gotta do is get hot the last two months.
They just noted on the postgame show that Russ didn’t make much of an attempt to get out of the way of that ball that put him on. I replayed it a couple of times and they are absolutely correct. He never moved his foot and let it get him. The Captain. No doubt.
oh… too bad for Lincecum, I was hoping he’d be Marichal to Clayton’s Ko… well, might be waaaaaaaaay too early for any comparisons, but I think you all know what I’m saying.
Aside from that, I applaud SF’s performance against Houston, and hope for many happy returns.
A good non-move by Marty!!
nsb ~ he got hit in the knee with a line drive. They had to take him out of the stadium to a hospital because they had no x-ray equipment on site. Like I said earlier, I am not a Giants fan, but I do like him. He seems like a great kid and is an awesome pitcher. It’s just too bad he wears black and orange.
did anyone see Acardona with her sign or her ethieraholic shirt?
Good to see you back leekfink. I agree, we have a good, capable core, and with our current-MLB-leading-ERA pitching staff, we have the components necessary to make a strong standing in October.
jhall, did you see him catch that foul tip on his bare hand? Man, after seeing the replays, I still can’t believe he didn’t break 5 or 6 bones in his hand!
trublue ~ No, I was kind of listening to the game more than watching. I was reading instead.
.
Phelps has set 4 world records – just amazing!!!
I think what Phelps is doing is unbelievable. Some idiots on ESPN say it’s just swimming and who cares. I sure do, because I know the training ritual the swimmers go through.
It sure is nice to see Ethier’s name on the headline of the homepage.
.
dnelly, nells, nelle, June, mom, Debbie,Miss Debbie, Debra, and Mrs. Nelson ~ ethieraholic ~
Hope Lince will be alright… indeed a worthy opponent.
Just saw Phelps on TV now, glad he’s on our side, heh. Even though the USC football fan in me winces a little when it shows him wearing his Michigan cap… I’m sure our Buckeye fan readers feel the same…
The way he’s going, the only way he’ll lose is if he runs into an Olympian who went to Appalachian State.
trueblu – really? Let’s see 6 am practices in the fog and freezing cold weather, and that was just the first practice of the day before school, not to mention the 2-3 hour practice after school depending on your event. That’s just for us average swimmers and not what Phelps does. I couldn’t imagine his training regimend.
TruBlue, probably the same idiots who say soccer isn’t a sport. I don’t watch soccer often at all, but one thing I can say is that is a tough sport. It’s like watching a Pitcher’s Duel everygame, though.
Besides, I’m sure Phelps can’t hear them over the clanging of his medals.
When I was a kid, I learned to hate the Giants. I think it was the Marichal/Roseboro incident that cemented it. I hated everyone on that team except Mays. You had to love that man.
But now, they don’t have anyone I hate on that team. My hatred is pretty much reserved for the uniforms and the fans. They really just suck. No offense, nelly. Years back my mom used to live in San Leandro and I’d roll up and visit her when the Dodgers were in town. We’d go to Candlestick wearing our LA hats. Now, I’ve spent my whole life attending games in Dodger Stadium sitting next to fans of the other teams. I almost never have heard the abuse for them that my mom and I used to hear up there. One Sunday she got hit in the back with a melted malt cup. Real class.
Yep Eric, he was fortunate not to have broken something.
Super Extraordinary Comeback 2nd In Row Victory By our Phenomenal Los Angeles Dodgers over the Philadelphia Phillies where All The Dodgers Again were Super Heros! Our Great Dodger in the Sky’s Majestic Universe is Happy Again For These Los Angeles Dodgers Of Ours are Headed For A Spectacular October Glory with all of Heaven’s Stars Following Them!
You are right nsb. They felt that it was a sport but only a few people do it and we only see it every 4 years, so nobody should care. They do speak the same way about soccer, saying it hasn’t caught on here in the states.
eric ~ the Giants do suck. My husband knows it too,and he does cheer on the Dodgers when they are not playing the Giants or the Rox (It’s a Brian Fuentes thing – he’s from here ). Michael just likes to make it an issue, and he’s a teenager so I will just let it be for the most part. I don’t like their fans either, present family excluded, of course. Like you said, it’s more about the uniform than the person in the uniform.
eric I used to experience the same thing at Candlestick. I would go with my best friend who was a Giant fan and I’d be sittting in my beautiful Dodger Blue and took a lot of abuse. The fans at Dodger Stadium show a lot more class. We are true fans not a bunch of drunk idiots.
Eric, I feel the same way about the Giants. I still remember how I felt when the Giants beat the Dodgers in the playoff game in 1962 and I cringe at the Bobby Thomson home run from 1951 even though I was 3 years old at the time and certainly did not anything about it until much later.
However, with Bonds gone I have decided to direct my disdain towards Randy Winn since he does so well against the Dodgers. I invite you to do the same. Otherwise playing the Giants won’t be as interesting.
Good evening ndeschenes ~ Short but sweet once again, but we like it all the same. We hope to hear from you again tomorrow as the Dodgers win a 3rd straight against the Phillies. Have a fabulous evening and a spectacular tomorrow ~
Gettin’ late out here. Sweet win!! Bon Noir everyone. Catch you on the flip side.
I’ll say good night too. See some of you in the morning. I want to go watch the deformed gymnasts perform. Strange little people, aren’t they?
Well, I say so Wally – it’s only 2 in the morning. Good night Wally – take care son -see you in the morning.
mom ~ ethieraholic ~
Good night.
Yeah lbirken, Winn’s the only really hateable one… not sure if they have Ray Durham anymore… It’s tough for me to hate Dave Roberts, he was my favorite Dodger when he was with us.
You know who I hated the most throughout his career, from the time I was a kid til a few years ago? Benito Santiago. I HATED that guy.
Have a good night jhall and TruBlue. I’m watching the deformed team too… hoping they get gold… and I won’t even go on yahoo for fear of spoilers.
lbirken, as a favor to you and after careful introspection, I will accept your offer to join you in your hate for Randy Winn if you will be so kind as to include that little *&%$ Dave Roberts. I haven’t delved into the stats, but I’m betting that he’s hitting 1.865 against us and .009 against the rest of MLB.
goodnight, jhall – and don’t let the bed bugs bite. And thank you for the recent good wishes for my REAL son!
TruBlue, “Strange little people”? LMAO!!!!
Ray Durham is now with the Brewers so you are stuck hating Wynn and Roberts. I can help in that department. LOL!!!
northstateblues – I think even some Giants fans hated Benito – LOL!!!
heheh, yeah, I hated that guy… he was great, but I hated him.
What a great win..Manny and Blake have been great….The pitching has been fantastic. Everyone is giving great at bats.
The first thing I thought about after Ethier’s walk-off hit was the collective IT orgasm. Girls, Andre DID look extra cute on the post-game show. Me? I’ll take the dreadlocks anytime. One love, one heart.
jungar seems awfully happy tonight. That’s good to see!!
LMAO!!!! Kahli~ most of the girls were there to see it happen live, too.
Stirring It Up, kahli?
Just for fun I tried my kahliforni account…STILL NO GO!
No woman, no cry…TONIGHT!
What is it with these account name changes? I just want my handle back… I signed in yesterday, and it gave me a name I used 5 years ago in a fan forum.
I was at the game! Wow! All I can say is…Andre should play everyday. He was the hero of the game. And I’m glad that Russell was part of it with his slide into home as the game winning rbi. It was so exciting. Almost no one left to the very end. We were all screaming on the field level. Ever since Manny became a Dodger, there is always electricity in the air. Everyone should try to make it to a Dodger game at least once to live the moment with us. I can’t even describe it to you. I can’t wait until the weekend and the fireworks! Go Dodgers. Let’s sweep those Phillies.
Hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate.
There’s nothing you can say will change my mind.
Nothing you can sing that will be kind.
Nothing you can think but you can learn how to play the game.
It’s easy.
The unis they wear would work on Halloween .
Their fans don’t know what it’s like to be clean.
Nothing you can do but you can learn how to get in line.
It’s easy.
All you need is hate, Lord they make me irate,
All you need is hate, hate, hate is all you need.
Hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate.
All you need is hate, they don’t like northstate,
All you need is hate, hate, hate is all you need.
They should have thrown Marichal in the klink.
Their fans don’t need to practice to stink.
I’d like to tie them up and pull them all into the drink.
It’s easy.
All you need is hate, don’t have one good trait
All you need is hate, hate, hate is all you need.
All you need is hate (all together now)
All you need is hate (everybody)
All you need is hate, hate, love ain’t what you need.
That is too bad about your “formerly known as” name – that seems like a long time ago now – LOL!!!
As much as Pierre was banging his head against the wall for failing to tag up on Kent’s long drive, it didn’t take a genius to realize his “gaff” allowed Manny to hit…and drive in a run.
BRAVO! A standing ovation!
SPECTACULAR SIR ERIC, SPECTACULAR!!!!!
xoxrussell ~ That was a fanstastic game, and to think I almost missed the play because I thought JP was coming up to bat and not Andre. I am glad you were there to see it. That’s just great!!!!
Thanks. I started writing the title/original artist stuff and thought it to be superfluous.
Yeah I am hopeful. I mean it’s obvious who should be playing. I expect Joe to let Pierre play vs lefties. And then switch him out. Kemp is hitting like we all thought he would, like he did last 2nd half (how soon everyone forgets he ht .342 last year) and has solidified his spot. Kershaw and Bills are cementeing themselves at the top of the rotation for a long time..Kuo and Brox might be a sweet closer combo in the future…its all good. If furcal can return, we would be fantastic.
So, I guess this can be a new genre – picking on other teams.
Well, if Furcal comes back, JP’s role really becomes null and void. His speed is no longer needed, even though we all know it’s not necessarily needed now.
Hmmm, what rhymes with Mike Schmidt?
taking off for a while, but dnel, you gave me an idea with the new genre… I think I’ll have something soon.
Good Night Northstateblues!!!
.
eric ~ you know what rhymes LOL!!
Furcal SS .366 .448 .597
Ethier RF .273 .340 .442
Ramirez LF .475 .543 .850
Kemp CF .298 .350 .468
Loney 1B .299 .354 .451
Kent 2B .268 .320 .421
Martin C .286 .386 .406
Blake 3B .295 .333 .541
Looks like a fantastic lineup eric!!
wow, what a finish.. that was an exciting game for sure.. amy and i had just got done talking about how ethier was having a great at bat, and how he was battling waiting for a pitch he could handle.. and then he roped one into centerfield. i’m glad russell got to score the winning run even if he needed a hit by pitch to get on base.. he’s really been struggling.. so it was good to see him pumped up and have a reason to celebrate. he really was robbed by utley in his previous at bat.. at least the ball was hard hit..
btw, amy says hi to everyone 🙂
Tomorrow’s game will certainly be interesting. I have seen Joe Blanton pitch many times with the A’s, but with the way the Dodgers seem to be hitting, we should be okay. The last game I saw him pitch was when the A’s played the Giants and he got shelled, and the Giants won 11-1
sara ~I thought of you guys during that play. It was exciting just watching it on tv. I can’t imagine, how it felt from there. Andre did an interview after the game. He did a great job,and he talked about Kempster running up to him first after the run scored. Did you get to see acardona? I am glad you got to see Amy.
Honestly nelly, I don’t know why we don’t bat Ramirez 3rd. Don’t you want your best hitter to bat in the first inning EVERY GAME?
You would think 🙂 especially with the way Matt and Andre have been getting on base lately.
Hey sara! It’s going to take a while for your goosebumps to go away! It must have been great to have been in that crowd. I’m very envious!
no kidding!!! I am still giddy and watched it from home 🙂

great article as always by AK and BK with some great audio from Torre and some of the boys.
The audio by Andre is just great. It’s Andre being Andre and just having fun playing the game.
Russell had a great interview as well.
Before I turn in, here’s an article that was written while I was incommunicado. It backs up what I’ve been saying for many years – that the save is the most worthless stat in the game.
Among the interesting stats is that “teams entering the ninth inning with a lead win roughly 95 percent of the time. That was the exact rate in 1901 and that was the rate 100 seasons later. In fact, the rate has varied merely from a high of 96.7 percent in 1909 to a low of 92.5 percent in 1941.”

Good Night Ward, dear! It was a fun day!!! Get some sleep, the boys are in bed, and I will see you in the morning,or afternoon, or evening. Good night!!
June ~ ethieraholic ~
Goodnight, June darlin’! I’ll be in touch when the Sheriff is OUT!
eric ~ Yes, I will know the feeling very shortly. I will be in the classroom setting up most of the day, but my real kids start school tomorrow – yikes Junior and sophomore year – here we come!! Good night again!!!
Ward, dear ~ That article had some very interesting information about the closers – hmmmmm!!! Okay ~ now I am going to bed. 🙂
“Manny’s very smart. He’s intelligent—especially when it comes to hitting a baseball. And he goes to school on the pitchers, too. He knows exactly what they’ve got and how they’re going to pitch him,” said Phillies manager Charlie Manuel, who spent seven seasons coaching and managing Ramirez in Cleveland.
Nice win by the Crew tonight – got home and tuned into the game just in time to see the last three pitches! I KNEW what the reaction was here.
.
Looking ahead to tomorrow: Joe Blanton has been pretty good since the Phillies traded for him. He has one career start against the Dodgers with the A’s in 2006; he went 8 IP, gave up 2 R and got a win. He’ll hardly recognize the Dodgers compared to the batting order he saw 2 years and almost 2 months ago:
.
R Furcal SS
W Aybar 3B
N Garciaparra 1B
J Drew DH
M Kemp CF
A Ethier LF
J Cruz RF
S Alomar C
R Martinez 2B
.
The guys who have seen him more than a few times are the new Dodgers:
CBlake: 1 for 16
Manny: 13 for 21, .619 .625 .667 1.292, one double
.
Nomar is the only guy with a HR against Blanton.
.
Brad Penny has seen a couple Phils a lot:
Rollins – 49 PA, .200 .265 .289 .554,
Burrell – 43 PA, .244 .279 .488 .767, 3 HR
.
Also look for LH Geoff Jenkins to start in RF: 5 for 17 with 3 doubles. Chase Utley has the other HR off Penny, 4 for 15.
Good Morning, ITD writers and readers!!
Great win last night for many, many reasons, and I believe they have all been stated. Here is a Tony Jackson article about Ethier, and how his mental state to the game has changed throughout the season.

good morning dnelly ~ I’m still excited about last night’s game winning hit by Andre. And, you almost missed it! It couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy and I think I even saw JP congratulating him. That was the biggest shock of all!
Good Morning, trublue ~ Yes, I saw JP congratulating him. No, I just thought he came in to pinch hit for the pitcher, and when he grounded out, I just assumed he was done for the night. So, I watched, but I was kind of reading and doing other things. Bill yells and tells me Martin is on 2nd and Andre is up to bat (he is going back and forth between the game and the olympics). By the time I got to the television, I saw the last two pitches. Then, after the game, they interviewed him. He did a great job with that , too. Very, very cool!!!!
OMG! That was an amazing game……My two MEN teamed up for a perfect ending….ANDRE & MARTIN! Yeeeeaahhhh! I was screaming my lungs out). I keep watching the video over and over and I will not get tire of it. I love it when they both team up for the perfect ending….REMEMBER THE THROW TO HOME NOT TO LONG AGO!.
ANDRE IS THE BEST AND MARTIN SPEED….I WAS WAITING FOR HIM TO SAY….”BEEP, BEEP!” (roadrunner)…..
Rose (ETHIERaholic)
Oh yes let me add: MARTIN & ETHIER ARE MY “DREAM TEAM”! Well I know Kemp, Kershaw, Manny, Loney, Blake, Biemel, Nomar and even JP contributed for last nights game…but the perfect victory was from MARTIN & ETHIER! Great job BOYS IN BLUE! That was ETHIERRIFIC!
Dodgersrule ~ It was fabulous, and yes, I keep watching the video over and over again, too. If you get a chance, you need to listen to the audio post game interviews from this article. It has great interviews from Joe, Andre, Russell and even Joe Beimel – Great stuf
http://sportsblogs.latimes.com/sports_baseball_dodgers
.
Rose ~ hears the article and the audio is at the end of the article
“here’s” not “hears” ~ I sure am glad I am going back to school soon. I need to learn how to spell again – LOL!!
Goooooooood morning ITD!!!!
Wait a minute, wait a minute, let’s go back to fogey’s stat for Ramirez against Blanton: 13 for 21, .619 .625 .667 1.292
That’ll do…………
Good morning everyone!!!
Wow, what a game last night!!
Been reviewing the posts and comments from yesterday.
Great songs and poems everyone. Enjoyed them very much. LOL!!!
Good Morning, jhall and eric!!
.
Yes, I am still watching soaking in the wonderful end to that game last night.

JHALLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!
good morning jhall & eric ~ was so wound up after last nights game, I couldn’t fall asleep. I knew we had that kind of moxie and I’m so glad it beginning to emerge.
DNell I read the articles and heard the interviews and watched the interview’s video…the were great.
Eventhou i wanted to start dancing when Ethier was talking….I started bobbing my head to the side (Night at the Ruxbury)
Where is ACARDONA….is she still celebrating…I did not see her on TV, but she is one like gal…..
Thanks!
Rose
I thought of the song, too Rose ~ too funny!! It’s one of those songs that will go down in history as the head-bobbing song – hilarious!!!!
Very impressive team effort. Kersh settled down and kept us in the game when he didn’t have his best stuff.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fu4p3HgpR4Q
Just saw on ESPN that Andruw just went back on the DL.
I hope Penny is a good tonight as Kersh was last night, Jhall. Maybe the mohawk haircut Russell gave him will make him pitch better.
jhall ~So true ~ It was a great team effort all game long. It would have been a much different game without the great pitching last night, too.
Sure hope so Tru. LOL!! If we get a half decent Penny down the stretch it will certainly help alot.
Good stuff dad!!!
jhall ~ they put Andruw on the DL to make room for Nomar – a little suspicious, don’t ya think? Then again, who cares.
LOL Nelly. I’m not looking that gift horse in the mouth.
eric ~ That is too funny!! What a classic!!!
I think Andruw will be on the DL for quite some time. There’s no room for him and I hope there won’t be for a long, long, time.
Now Phew can just settle in and accept a role as the 4th outfielder and role player and not whine about it, we could make a serious run at this division. Make it happen Joko!!!!
I’m with you Tru!! Good riddance.
Okay ~ I got to take my kids to school. Catch up to all of you in a little while ~ Have a wonderful morning!!!!
Joe did say he used JP last night just so he could get a game in — hadn’t played in a while. By that comment, he intends to play Andre the bulk of the season.
Have a great day mom!!!!
merci, jhall! Ayez un jour magnifique vous-même!!
.
Now you know I didn’t do that myself – LOL!!! Have a splendid day!!!
Rire!! Merci!!!
jhall ~ my Braves/A’s fan co-worker doesn’t like the Dodgers anymore because of Manny (she hates Manny!), and she thinks our team is the “new evil empire.” 😦 She actually said she is cheering against the Dodgers. I consider myself a Dodger fan, but I am also a baseball fan, and I like to see all kinds of good players play.
*** fire alarm is going off *** be back!!!
.
Okay ~ strange~ false alarm sort of – the roofers set it off with too much smoke in the boiler room.
.
Anyhow ~ I understand not liking certain players (obviously we all have them), but to discount a whole team because of one player is a little harsh (Giants excluded for some, I know) don’t you think? I was a little upset at the comment. I know sara is not happy about Manny, but she’s not writing off the whole team because of it. I guess I will have to see how she reacts when a player she doesn’t like walks onto one of her favorites.
Hey messagebear!! Haven’t seen you in a while, but if you are out there somewhere, can you send out the current ITD blogger’s list of places of residence. Thanks ~

Otherwise, I’ve just been observing our team with the added
late season mercenaries. It’ll be an interesting finish to the
season, and should be an even more interesting off-season.
I hope that we don’t try to re-sign Nomar and Kent for next year.
But most important, I hope that Frank adds up the wasted millions
from this year and the past years and terminates Ned, no matter
where we end up in the standings.
