A little shaking, but all is well at Dodger Stadium

For those who might have heard, we did, in fact, have a 5.8 earthquake here in Los Angeles just a short while ago and those of us working at Dodger Stadium certainly felt it. However, there was no damage whatsoever to the stadium or the people inside and the game will continue as scheduled tonight (as will DY’s web chat at 2 p.m.).

With all this talk about Manny and Frank’s love for anything related to Boston and the east coast, why doesn’t he simply work out a franchise ownership switch with the Red Sox owners group. Then Frank would have what he’s always wanted and seeks to emulate, and maybe we would finally get some ownership that understands what this baseball business is all about.

Wow!! What did you guys do? It could be the combination of the Giants being in town and the Manny rumors. Maybe that is a sign to Ned – DON’T DO IT!!!!

  3. stizaza

probably is related to sweeney and jones getting hits last night…then jojo woke up this morning and decided he would start both of them tonight. aaaaaaaaaand then that happened.

That shaking was new Hall of Famer Walter O’Malley rolling over in his grave at the current state of Dodger affairs…

  7. redfox@q.com

Maybe a giant earthquake is needed to get management’s attention and shake some sense into their heads!! I can’t believe the rumors that are floating around. I guess management is even dumber that ever I thought.

  8. tradejuanpypaperbag

manfromchina – it’s probably a combination of Manny, the gnats, Sweeney and Jones. Los Angeles couldn’t handle all that in one 24-hour period – look what happened to dodgereric last night. He lost all forms of logical thought. If you didn’t witness it, you need to go back to the game thread after Jones got his hit. Too funny!!!!

I bet it’s been a while since Joe felt an earthquake! Maybe he’ll think that God is mad at him. 🙂

  12. tradejuanpypaperbag

Wow!! This system is having it’s own earthquake of sorts. Maybe it is like the animals, the system knew the earthquake was going to happen before the people did.

  13. dodger 32

If Nerd wants to show he can do something good, he should trade Pierre for Manny, and maybe a secondary prospect, or someone like Proctor. I doubt he could pull it off though.

  14. dodger 32

Trade Ned for Theo Epstein. That would be the best trade the Dodgers could make. Any trade for Manny, for Kemp, or Ethier and it will only make this team older and worse. Manny isn’t the problem, it’s who Boston would want to get him.

  15. tradejuanpypaperbag

LMAO!!! I would be happy with just Pierre for Anyone – LOL!!!! I know, I know – be nice 🙂

  16. northstateblues

wow. I come to SoCal, and the earth shakes! Heheh, reminds me of when I slept through both the Big Bear AND Landers quakes.

I actuallywouldn’t mind having Manny, but not as a rental. Get well soon Nomar.

  17. enchantedbeaver

I see it also says Ned’s not interested in Maddux. That I believe is a mistake. Not for his pitching ability, but think of what he could teach Kersh, Wade and Troncoso, maybe even McDonald if he’s called up in Sept. It would definitely be nice if SOMEONE could teach them at the major league level.

  18. perumike

dnelly, I had a piano all ready to go, and dropped it, hence the reason for the earthquake. It was a large piano to make sure the job got done right.

The New York Post believes the Red Sox and Dodgers are still talking about a deal that would send Manny Ramirez to Los Angeles, with the cash to cover his salary, in return for Matt Kemp or Andre Ethier.

  20. obi_wen

Did you all see this part of the Rosenthal article?

“Add the Dodgers’ Ivan DeJesus Jr. and Braves’ Brett Lillibridge to the list of young shortstops that the Orioles have been scouting. The Orioles still seem more likely to move their big pieces — second baseman Brian Roberts, even closer George Sherrill — in the offseason. The Dodgers could view Roberts as a potential replacement for Jeff Kent.”

Northstateblues – I forgot you were down there, but then again, they happen up here, too, so I’m sure you are used to it. It will be interesting to hear any player reactions, especially ones who have not been through one before.
    .
enchanted – I think getting Maddux would be wonderful. Now, that’s experience the Dodgers could use.

  22. enchantedbeaver

If it happens it’ll go down as one of the worst deals of all time. Yet another indication that this organization is doomed to failure.

You’ve gotta think Kemp is untouchable right? Please tell me I’m right. A GM with a brain would make Kemp off limits but we all know Ned doesn’t have one. These next two days will be stressful.

I’ve already made it a point NOT to go to a Dodger game this year and I probably won’t go to another one for a while. I’ve lost a lot of faith in this organization. Sons of Steve Garvey had a great post today about McCourt complaining about attendance and reduced revenues. I agree fully with everything that is said in it. McCourt has turned off a lot of Dodger fans I think. He has made going to Dodger stadium a once in a great while experience at least for me and my family and to be honest if things keep going the way they are going I probably won’t even try to go to a Dodger game unless its a world series game which, if things do keep going the way they are going won’t be a for a long long time.

I used to go to at least 5-10 games a year now I won’t even be going to one this year. Thanks Frank!

Let’s get Manny for Ethier. Boston gets Texeira. D’backs are left in the cold. And we can watch Manny’s hair take us to the World Series.

Who here would trade Ethier for a World Series Ring?

Just wanted to check in and make sure you are all okay. Glad Dodger Stadium is not damaged. Hope the shaking is over before I come this weekend.

  32. dodger 32

Frank wants to know why attendance is down. Try Luis Maza, Berroa, Sweeney, Ozuna, Pierre, Andruw all you can eat Jones, etc etc. Put a quality team on the field and watch how many more people will have interest. Of course to do that, you’d have to have a GM who has a clue.

  33. tradejuanpypaperbag

erica – it’s not you, it’s the system. It’s been doing that all day 🙂
    .
    fliegel – exactly!!!!!!
    .
We sure as hell don’t need Manny. This club (minus the young guns – Martin, Loney,Kemp and Ethier) are a side show as it is. Why would we want more of the same?

  34. tradejuanpypaperbag

Well, eric, if that happens, yes, I would be okay with it. Where’s the big piano when you need one – LOL!!!!

  35. Andruw_and_Juan_Best_Evur_OF@yahoo.com

Apologies for the quake. I promise not to do any more jumping jacks this season.

  36. roberto6

So we will have an outfield of Ramirez, Kemp, Ethier, Jones and Pierre ? Doesn’t make sense. Tex going to the Angels is a great trade for them. Man….everyone is applauding the Angels on the radio and making fun of the Dodgers…

  37. roberto6

    —————

the Blue Crew has been looking to add some firepower to their anemic offense, and has been reportedly interested in Manny’s batting prowess. And it would be a great chance for owner Frank McCourt to add yet another Bostonian to his line up.

However, now that one of their potential AL playoff rivals has just landed a big hitter, the Red Sox may be more reluctant to unload Ramirez during their run to and in the postseason.

Also, the Dodgers were apparently interested in getting Teixeira, as well. So, it looks like the Angels may have stolen *two* players from their rivals from Chavez Ravine.

  38. rodmky@optusnet.com.au

Good Morning from “Down Under” .. glad to read that the earthquake didn’t cause damage. We get a few down here but nothing like the ones in CA. Well I see the Angels got Tex and we didn’t trade for another weak hitting has-been whist I was sleeping. Both good moves.

  39. roberto6

Has anyone seen McCourt around the Stadium ? People keep telling me they haven’t seen him for a while. Is he hiding ?

  40. roberto6

    Lineup for today…

    Pierre, LF
    Kemp, CF
    Ethier, RF
    Kent, 2B
    Loney, 1B
    Blake, 3B
    Berroa, SS
    Ardoin, C
    Johnson, P

  41. tradejuanpypaperbag

All outfielders leading off – pretty cool, if I have to accept Pierre as being leadoff. I am sure eric’s song is on its way shortly if not already by the time I type this comment. LOL!!!

  42. dodgrdad14

    Hey Frank-

Attendance is down because of line ups like this, Just thought you would like to know.

  43. rodmky@optusnet.com.au

Hi Nelly …. Shock! Horror! … Starbucks close all 61 of their Australian stores .. Ex-pat Americans are running running around cities looking in vain for a fix …

  44. roberto6

Dodgers are on pace to break last seasons total. Dodgers are averaging 44,000 fans a game. I think what the media means when they say that McCourt is sad about the Attendance is that the fans are not using their own tickets. They sold 3 millions tickets by April but the fans are not coming and they know this because when you enter the gate, your ticket is scanned. McCourt gets the totals for every home game and he noticed that alot of people rather stayed home. Blame it on gas prices ? On the economy ? On the Dodgers lineup ? I don’t know.

  45. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

hello everyone! the earthquake wasn’t so bad.. at least not in downtown LA where i was.. nothing fell, and i didn’t feel any aftershocks..

i don’t think the angels deal is all that great.. texieira is a free agent after the season, and if they don’t sign him long term.. then it becomes a very bad deal. kotchman’s numbers are not much worse than mark’s and casey is much cheaper. casey hasn’t even hit arbitration yet, i think.. so it’d be like us trading james loney and a minor leaguer for texieira, and i would say NO WAY to that trade..

interesting for joe to give russell a day off today.. i guess he freaked himself out seeing how often russell has been catching.. i guess he figures if he rests him today, then he can play all three games this weekend..

oh, and there’s no friggin way we’re getting manny, and there’s also no friggin way i’d want him. i do not support that trade or any rumors of that trade. talk about making me sick to my stomach..

  46. dodgrdad14

    Roberto,
Ticket prices are just to get into the park, most people spend twice as much once inside on over expensive food and drinks not to mention momentos. We all do it!!! LOL

  47. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

jnv, you should take food with you to the game.. that’s what i do! 🙂

  48. trublu4ever

I agree with you jnv, the ticket prices are nothing compared to what I spend in the Dodger store and $5 bottled water!

  49. roberto6

jnv828, i know that. that’s why McCourt is dissapointed. I don’t blame the fans for not using their own tickets. It gets expensive being inside and for what ? Dodgers are not a good team right now.

  50. tradejuanpypaperbag

Hey sara – know exactly how you feel about Manny. It sounds good when you take Pierre and Jones out of the picture, but that’s not going to happen, and then you would end up a whole lot worse off. We have enough of a circus around those two. BTW~ My husband signed Michael (my son) up for the USC camp today. All is a go so far 🙂 Glad to hear you are okay after the earthquake and all.

  51. roberto6

When the Dodgers announce the attendance during the game that 44,000 fans are in the park. I laugh. Sometimes it looks like only 25,000 people are in. When they announce the attendance, they mean how many tickets were sold. Not how many fans are inside.

  52. kpookiemon

Nomar’s new-found brittle body and declining numbers can point to many things. I’d hate to think it has anything to do with the same “malady” that has rendered Gagne and Bonds as mere shadows of what they used to be.

  53. dodgrdad14

Sara, you must be crazy. How in the world could you go to Dodger Staduim and not eat at least a couple of Dodger Dogs!!! 🙂

Roberto, The Dodgers could be a good team with the young guns in the line up. LaRoche did NOT get a fair shake at 3rd base, DY is a much better player then either Jones or Pierre and I would rather see Hu or DeJesus at short instead of Berroa. they might not go to the world series but I bet they make it to the playoffs. Not to mention they would be fun to watch.

  54. kho88

PLEASE DON”T GET MANNY. HOW CAN WE PAY JONES AND MANNY $36 MILLION NEXT YEAR? IF WE DON’T PICK UP MANNY’S OPTIONS, WE GIVE UP OUR BEST YOUNG PLAYERS FOR A TWO MONTH HEADACHE? THIS IS MADNESS!!!!!!!

    DON’T GET MANNY
    DON’T GET MANNY!!

  55. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

yeah dnelly, i heard somewhere that the dodgers said they wouldn’t take manny unless the redsox took jones.. why would boston ever want that.. and i don’t want manny anywhere near my team. seriously, the guy is a living nightmare.. glad to hear that michael is coming to camp!

another couple thoughts from yesterday.. i’m glad they’re not afraid to take pierre out for double switches.. no one should be on the field every day, every inning..

also, about nomar.. don’t they realize it’s nomar, and he’s going to be out for a lot more than a few days? just put him on the DL. it’s stupid when you say things like how you’re trying to win, and how the best players will play, and then you’re willing to trot out 24 guys every night instead of 25?? you’re just wasting time before you have to DL him anyway.. just do it.

  56. dodgrdad14

Kpookiemon- Was there a doubt that Nomar was on “Something”? I would be money on it. Nobody is that injury prone. Except maybe someone that is in there 80’s!! LOL

  57. enchantedbeaver

Let’s just say if Manny comes to L.A., Frank gets everything he deserves. If they think Kemp has an attitude, they ain’t seen nothing. But let’s check Manny’s qualifications with Dodger mission control:

Old – Joe, Go Ned – Go
Can’t field his position – Joe, Go
    Bad attitide – Joe, Go
Bazillion Dollar Salary – Ned, Go
Won’t make a bit of difference to this team – Ned, Go
Comes from Boston – Frank, Go

Looks like all front office systems are a GO.

Let us pray that Logan White is watching over the youngsters and that Jamie is watching over the pursestrings…

  58. dodgrdad14

If the Redsox took Jones, Colitus should except Manny’s jock strap as a trade and call it a win.

  59. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

haha jnv, i go to too many games to eat a dodger dog every time.. i try and have one every once in a while, but i don’t think i like hot dogs enough to have that many a season.. i usually pick up good food like chipotle or in-n-out to go to the games.. or a good sandwich from somewhere..

  60. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

was anyone a part of DY’s chat today? i want to know how it went.. i love DY.. he seems like such a fun, good person to have around..

  61. tradejuanpypaperbag

jnv – that’s the whole point of wanting the young team. They are fun to watch!!! There was so much emotion and team chemistry when it was just the young guys for those couple of weeks (it even seemed like Kent was enjoying it too). There was nothing wrong with that make up at all, and then bam!! it all went to crap again!!! They could lose every game if they would’ve just stuck with the young guys and left them alone to learn and develop as the young gun dynasty team we envisioned. The fans would have been fine with it because it was a fun team to watch. Why did they go and screw that up? Sigh 🙂

  62. dodgrdad14

Sara- I have been eating Dodger dogs for over 30 years and I don’t think I will ever get tired of them!! 🙂
But you did say In-N-Out, which is another subject all together!! 🙂

    Dnel,
You are trying to use common sense and we all know that Nerd doesn’t have any. You are right those couple of weeks with just the kids was awesome and I also think Kent enjoyed it. They were all winners in AA and AAA so why wouldn’t they be in the show? We will never find out as long as Nerd is handling the players because he needs to use his “PR” to make him look good when in fact we are seeing how bad his “PR” really is.

  63. tradejuanpypaperbag

Thank you TruBlue44 – how are you doing today? I certainly hope we beat the Giants tonight.

  64. trublu4ever

dnelly I’m doing great. By the way I’ve taken a poll & everyone says you should bring your Ethier bear for Andre to sign!

  65. dodgrdad14

Scurtis, It might hurt his oblique if he was really hurt, which we know is not the case. It was just convienent for the FO to say he is hurt and put him on the DL instead of trying to get him to clear waivers.

  66. aeversw

bokonon42: Q: Would you trade Matt Kemp for Jack Wilson? What would have to be wrong with somebody who thought that was a good deal?
Young: Is that a serious question?

hahah even Pee Wee is smarter then ned

  67. tradejuanpypaperbag

They did have DY’s chat. Eric was on, and he has more information about it. He said his question wasn’t asked. I couldn’t get on, but then I couldn’t get on here ethier (either) at the time.
    .
jnv – I know – that common sense thing comes into my head every once in a while. So, how’s your wife’s theory holding out? It’s still a very strong possibility – LOL 🙂

  68. tradejuanpypaperbag

truBlue44 – ha, ha LOL!!!! I am going to bring the bear for sure, and probably bring the song just in case. Thanks!! 🙂

  69. lagirl27

    so we can post now??
    .
Josh- can you post the chat transcript when you can please?- It system kept logging me out and when I came back I started in the middle- couldn’t read what was already said. Thank You!
    .
DY answered my question! yea. Too bad I couldn’t get Matt, cause Matt was my trial run. With DY I already knew what I was doing.
    .
About to go home. I hope I can watch a win today!!! That would rock!
    .

  70. dodgrdad14

    Dnel,

I have to think my wife is hitting the nail on the head!!!

For those of you who don’t know, back in the beginning of the season my wife said that JOJO was still a Yankees fan and only came to the Dodgers to take thier money and wreck the team. I told her she was crazy……… Guess not.

  71. trublu4ever

dnelly we have to remember to bring our folding chairs since we will be camping out in front of the AT&T store before dawn, just so we can be first in line, lol

  72. aeversw

As much as I hate the Angels I’ve got to say something good about them today. They have really helped us this season. First it was Erik Aybar taking out Pierre which helped us win more games then we would have this year. Now they have taken Teixeira off the market and have pretty much Killed any chance of Matt Kemp getting traded for Manny!

Where would we be without the much hated Halos? We very well could have a worse record thats for sure. If Pierre doesn’t miss those games we wouldn’t have as good (if you can call it good) a record as we do right now. We also could have traded Matt Kemp for Manny which would have left us with an outfield of Pierre, Jones and Ethier after next season and we could have see Teixeira traded to the Diamondbacks which would have to had made them the favorite to win the west this season.

It’s hard to believe but the Halos have done more good for this team then Ned Colletti has this season and they we’re even trying!

  73. northstateblues

dnel, yeah, I’ve experienced my share of earthquakes, the oddest one being the “Hector Mine” quake, a 7.1 at 2 am. MTV was running the first MTV Music awards, and when Madonna started writhing around on the stage, the quake happened. Stuff falling off the bookshelf, chandelier rattling. Good times.

Around the late 90’s they found out that the fault lines around here (Barstow) were a bit more active than they though, and I became used to aftershocks. Once in High School in ’98 there was one while I was in the Library, and a trophy fell off the bookshelf and nailed me in the shoulder.

Of course, there’s only been one mild 3.1 quake in Marysville since I lived up there, so I was a little more off-guard with this one. I’m glad everyone’s okay, the freeways are still moving, and the Stadium’s still standing.

  74. tradejuanpypaperbag

jnv – It makes more and more sense everyday!!!!
    .
yes, trublue44 – we will have to do that!! LMAO!!!

  75. dodgrdad14

    Dnel it does make sense.

In regards to todays earthquake, I am glad I moved up north. I was in the Northridge earthquake and that sucked!!! I lived about 7 miles from the epicenter!!

  76. tradejuanpypaperbag

Thanks for the report Northstateblues- Wow!! so you have been in a few. The latest one I was stuck in were the 300+ that happened in Reno back in April – that was probably the worst I have felt because I was on the 19th floor of a hotel. Mostly here, though, we get rumblings from the bigger ones from the bay area.

  77. tradejuanpypaperbag

That was a biggy, jnv – that was headlines even here at the time, much like the San Francisco one.

  78. dodgrdad14

It was a big one, It woke me up and I was literally bouncing up and down on my bed. I thought someone came in and started jumping on my bed or something!!!! LOL
We didn’t have gas or power for a couple of days and there were a lot of after shocks. It was crazy.

  79. tradejuanpypaperbag

Wow!!! jnv – crazy life sometimes here in California, north or south – lol!!! The only natural disaster I have been close to is flooding. We live on a creek that has topped off a few times, and we have been evacuated once since living here, but we really haven’t been seriously affected by any earthquake yet – knock on wood:)

  80. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

i hardly remember the northridge earthquake.. it was huge.. but i slept through it.. my mom woke me up at the tail-end of it.. and all the stuff in my room was on the floor.. i’m a heavy sleeper!

oh, and the DY, or should we call him peewee, chat is posted on the main dodgers site now.. DY is such a funny kid. it’d be fun to meet him.. oh, and in the first question, he said andy was running all around the house shouting this morning during the earthquake.. i guess andy never made it to vegas..

  81. tradejuanpypaperbag

sara – so if Andy is in LA, can we maybe assume he’s coming back to Dodger Stadium someday soon 🙂

  82. jungar@wsgcorp.com

I WISH NED COLLETI WAS MITCH KUPCHACK

I wish Ned was a more powerful superhero. One that could morph himself into the GM of 4 teams at once (Giants, Padres, Rockies, Backs) by taking over thier GM bodies sorta like in the matrix. Then Logan his understudy will take over LA and when Ned trys to take it back he will be destroyed. Logan and only Logan will hold the golden pinky ring that once belonged to Coletti and along with his Giants 2002 runner up ring he flashed at his first news conference. Only with these two rings together can the Coletti who has taken over their bodies be destroyed. Unti then it’s winning time.

jnv, that Northridge quake was a doozy, Barely felt it up here, but I remember how that one was devestating. Luckily, haven’t been through any that killed power or gas lines yet.

Dnel, that’s pretty much my nightmare scenario right there. Freaky stuff. I get queasy just looking out the window of those casino hotels sometimes, let alone worrying about quakes.

Just glad it isn’t as shaky up in Marysville.

Management hasn’t trusted our players since the beginning of the season so why should they start now?
