Want to meet the Dodgers?

Dodgers-Trolley.jpgBefore I get into all of the upcoming player appeareances, hopefully you all have heard that the City of Los Angeles is restoring transportation from Union Station to Dodger Stadium before and after the remaining home games this season. The Dodgers Trolley kicks off tomorrow night and should be a great way to help fans save time spent in traffic, money spent on gas, parking, etc. I hope that those of you in LA will take the chance to ride it and give us your feedback. All information you’ll need is at this link.

Meanwhile, talk about a golden opportunity to meet your favorite Dodgers…tons of autograph opportunities coming up in the next week or so, including three different ones on Saturday. Sunday’s game is autograph day for kids, with various players at the turnstiles from 11:15 a.m. – 12:00 noon. If you can’t make it to Dodger Stadium (or you’re not a kid), they’re coming your way…

scurtis- I can’t believe you were hating on Kemp and you thought I wouldn’t notice. Shame!!!
    .
ANDRE is coming to ATT. NELLY you have to be in town for that one. I want to go to that one!
    .
I am shocked the Jeff Kent is making an appearance. He’s not really the friendly fan guy, so I am glad that he will be out. Cory Wade is going to be right down the street from my mom’s house. Maybe I should join that day, hmm.
    .
I would love meet Matt Kemp day. Can you work on that on Josh?? hehe
    .

  2. enchantedbeaver

Evidently don’t say what I said eric ! LOL

    Got new threaded, so…
    .
Honestly, if you just DFA’d Druw and Pierre, paying all of their salary to inflict them on some other team would be reward enough.

Sorry jnv, never spent any time in Sacramento. I have however been to Mel’s Diner in Placerville.

  3. scurtis1999

Kent making an appearnace is unreal. Wonder if he will sign some Barroids things? haha

    Sorry Amy! lol

  4. enchantedbeaver

manny – this is a Delino DeShields… and to think, it only cost us Pedro Martinez:

  5. lagirl27

alright scurtis. Our friendship is still intact. But appreciate the Bison.- is is powerful , yet graceful 🙂

  6. ericaadriane@gmail.com

Thanks for posting the DeShields stats Enchanted.

That trade should be on the all time worst trade list, right behind the Babe going to New York.

  7. scurtis1999

    haha cute Amy

    omg, check this out

The Dodgers were reportedly in on Adrian Beltre before learning that his no-trade clause prevent a move back to Los Angeles.

ESPN’s Jayson Stark says the Twins are still in on Beltre, but it doesn’t look like there are any other strong suitors at the moment. He’s likely to stay in Seattle until the offseason at least.

  8. lagirl27

Oh Denel- I am so happy for you. What a great opportunity. I Want to go to that one too. Meeting Andre off the field would be real cool. hmmm.. I’ll think of a way 🙂

  9. tradejuanpypaperbag

Swell song Ward!!! Did the boss call in sick today, dear?
    .
Obi – you are on a roll with the songs – keep it up! They are fabulous!!
    .
westernmost – we know we can’t have Sizemore, but one can dream, can’t they?
    .
    Kalhi – I thought you were 🙂

  10. ericaadriane@gmail.com

Sizemore does NOT have a no trade clause in his contract…I’m just saying.

I want to meet Jeff Kent!!! He seems so nice! (snicker) LOL.

  11. enchantedbeaver

Only our management could need a shortstop, but go shopping for a 4th third baseman…

I read the no trade clause as Frank stepping in and saying no more huge contracts.

  12. tradejuanpypaperbag

Amy – I was willing to go down just to meet him even if it wasn’t on a day that I would have gone normally, but my mom and I are going to that series – how cool is that!!

  13. tradejuanpypaperbag

Josh ~ Thank you for that information on where the players will be. It helps to have some notice for those of us not in the So-Cal area. 🙂

  14. tradejuanpypaperbag

    Wow!!! That’s great swood!!
    .
I was down in the Race Sports Book watching the baseball games that were on, and they have USC, Georgia and Ohio State having the best odds in winning the BCS Championship this year. For pro football – it’s Patriots, Colts and Cowboys.
That information should make you USC people happy along with jhall (Ohio State), and I am sure Boblee will be happy to hear the Cowboy news.

  15. swood@rcn.com

lol scott and enchanted. I hope that when Pierre comes back he gets playing time in favor of Andruw.

  16. enchantedbeaver

Just a small little ditty for an off day. To George of the Jungle.

    JOE OF THE DUGOUT
    .
Joe, Joe, Joe of the dugout
    Dumb as he can be
    Ah-e-ah-e-ah-e-ah
    Watch out for Druw’s knee
    .
Joe, Joe, Joe of the dugout
    Loves vets certainly
    Ah-e-ah-e-ah-e-ah
    Still calls on Mark Sweeney
    .
    When he gets in scrapes
    Its the kids he goat/scapes
With the help of his friend
    A man named Ned
    Then away he’ll schlep
    To play another old vet
    While JP and Jeffy Kent
    Stay in step with

    Ah-e-ah-e-ooooh
    Friend to vet’rans he

  17. scurtis1999

Think Andruw Jones strolls around the USC and UCLA campus’s for 20 year old barbies instead of hitting the extra batting practice with Donnie baseball? lol

  18. cpompe1

OMG!!! I just talked to my mom; she and I are going to meet Andre Ethier!!! 🙂 It’s not just me that’s a huge Ethier fan; my mom is too!!! What I’ve gotta think of is something creative for Andre to sign!!! I mean, two grown ladies (one old enough to be his mom; the other old enough to be his grandma) going to get an autograph from our favorite Dodger – just like we were both 10 years old!!! 🙂 This thing that I’ve got running around in my head to have Andre put his “John Hancock” on, I’ve got to pay homage to my ITD buddies!!!

dnel, I know you and your mom are down for the weekend for the games, so I expect to see you!

  19. lagirl27

ok, this is exciting. I need to find someone to go with as well. My mom loves the dodgers, but in a huge fan way, not a super fan way 😦
I will be dnelly’s ans cpompe’s daughter for the day 🙂

  20. cpompe1

amy, ya going? If you are, we’ve gotta meet. This thing that I want Andre to sign will say “cpompe1” and “ITD” on it so I should stand out like a sore thumb.

  21. tradejuanpypaperbag

CP – I can’t wait. When I found out, my mom was the first person I called. My family could care less because of that gnat fandom in them. Oh my goodness!!! I am so excited!!! Have you done one of these before? My first one was yesterday, and that was on accident. I have everything Andre now – what to have him sign is definitely a question.

  22. cpompe1

thx scurtis! Aren’t you local? Why don’t you come down??? I just would love to meet as many of our regular bloggers as possible.

and amy – you can ask your mom! If she’s a fan, I’m sure she would love to go!!! 🙂 Oh, can’t you tell I’m excited!!! I do feel like I’m 10 years old!!! 🙂

  23. cpompe1

dnel – no, I’ve never done this before! What happened yesterday? But I can’t wait for this. I told my mom – never mind about the 12 – 1 hours. We’re gonna get there early cuz ya know that there’s gonna be tons of people (kids) lining up!!! But boy, the only thing is I wish it wasn’t over a week away; I’m too giddy to wait until then!!! Plus, if my mom and I get in line to meet him with a bunch of 10 year olds, I’m gonna feel really weird!!! Maybe whoever from ITD can meet and we can all go as one!!! 🙂

  24. tradejuanpypaperbag

CP – I do feel like a little kid, but this is a good thing. Do you have to get there early? Is this publicized outside of Dodger Stadium and forums like these?

  25. cpompe1

well dnel – it’d have to be one of your songs. My two songs are about JP and Sweeney; not appropriate!!!

  26. tradejuanpypaperbag

I met Steve Garvey at a mall here in Las Vegas, and it was all by chance. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time – sorry jnv:) I got to sit and talk to him for 15 minutes because I was there first and he was early so there was no line. So, I got a picture, a book and a baseball card signed, plus a picture with him.

  27. cpompe1

dnel – as far as publicizing this, I don’t know. I’m gonna check out their homepage; I’ll be back…

  28. dodgrdad14

    Easy girls!!! 🙂 LOL
Hey Enchanted I have eatent at Mels a time or two. Not bad grub…….
Where was the story about Beltre having a no trade to LA??? I would like to read it.

  29. tradejuanpypaperbag

CP – it’s okay – I feel the same way!!! A little too long to wait now!!! This is just crazy!!! Does he realize what he does to us mature women, too? I have noticed everytime I’m about a game, when the kids go out to have a ball signed, it’s always a girl, so I would have to assume he is used to it from little girls, but what about us grown-ups 🙂

  30. ramslover

I am so envious of the Dodgers players appearances that you LA people get to go to….Have fun!

Did you see in the Jayson Stark article that the Pirates where asking for either Kemp or Billz for Wilson….what a joke, but that is the Nedsters rep…asked for it and you may recieve….Cabrera for Lowe not bad but get another player…..

  31. scurtis1999

According to FOXSports.com’s Ken Rosenthal, the White Sox would get back Alex Cora if they sent Juan Uribe to Boston.

Uribe is making $4.5 million this year, while Cora is at $2 million, so the teams would split the remaining difference in salaries if the trade got done. Rosenthal believes the White Sox could play Cora at second base, move Alexei Ramirez to short and trade Orlando Cabrera to the Dodgers for Derek Lowe. That seems a little far-fetched, though. The Red Sox obviously see Uribe as an upgrade from Cora, particularly since their need is at shortstop. Cora is sure-handed enough, but he doesn’t have the same range as Uribe, even if Uribe has lost a step.

  32. cpompe1

sorry scurtis. I really have to keep that list of bloggers/cities next to my computer for easy reference.

dnel – I looked on the Dodgers homepage and clicked different links and couldn’t find anything. I really thought that there would be something, but I couldn’t find anything…

  33. tradejuanpypaperbag

Hey jnv – this is exciting news – lol!!!
    .
CP – I looked on the Dodger Lyrics website. I have done one song that is for just him, and eventhough it refers to Andruw and JP, it’s not in a negative way towards them, it’s just Andre having to sit because of them. I will have to give this some thought for sure. I think it would be fun to go up to him together. He’s got to remember you and I somewhat because we have posted on his site several times, too ( well, for me, it’s been more than several – lol!!

  34. cpompe1

Orlando Cabrera to the Dodgers for Derek Lowe isn’t too bad, but the referring party (yecch, Ken Rosenthal) is always suspect. But getting Cabrera back to So Cal wouldn’t be a bad thing…

  35. cpompe1

yeah dnel – and I can ask him personally if there is even a portion of Oriental blood running thru him. I still look at his eyes (how can you not!) and still say I see a little Oriental in him…

  36. cpompe1

Well, I’ve gotta go. I REALLY have to get back to the last of my painting for the day. I’ll catch up with y’all later…

  37. tradejuanpypaperbag

CP – I think so, too as far as the eyes are concerned. About the blog – I just have this urge, especially when he has had a great game to let him know that we fans are paying attention to his accomplishments and we “know” what is going on. Plus jhall posted a song over there, too – how sweet was that?

  38. dodgrdad14

blechhhhhhhh, you girls are killing me!!! just kidding, I would be excited to see them also, just for different reasons.
    .

And my daughter (only 8 years old) is in love with Russell!!! Everytime she walks in the room when I am watching a game she says, Is Russell playing…. He sure is Purty!!!
    .

ohhhh what am I ever going to do????

  39. dodgereric

OK enchanted, this is all your fault……….

To the theme from Super Chicken

When you find your lead in danger,
By a Cub or Texas Ranger,
Even when the lead is very spartan, (yuck, yuck, yuck)
    There is someone playing,
Who the rest of us will look up to –
Just caaaaaaaaall for Russell Martin! (puk, ack!)

Boy, if you’re afraid you’ll have to overlook it,
Besides you knew the job was dangerous when you took it (puk, ack!)

He will block the plate real boss
And knock in runs to save a loss
He can do no wrong, just take to hearten (puk, puk, puk)
There is one thing you should learn
When there is no one else to turn to
Caaaaaaaaaall for Russell Martin! (puk, puk, puk)
Caaaaaaaaaall for Russell Martin! (puk, ack!)

  40. dodgereric

    And Tom Slick……..

    Matt Kemp.
    Matt Kemp.
    Let me tell you why,
He’s the best of all the guys.

    Matt Kemp.
    Matt Kemp.
He can throw and run and hit the ball like no one else.
Keep back girls because you know amy’s got her cap set for
    Matt Kemp.
    Matt Kemp!

  41. scurtis1999

As long as OC doesn’t mess with other players wives or girlfriends(Keith Foulke) and cause a rift in the clubhouse, then it might be okay. Id still rather have Furcal signed next year, then light hitting and fielding OC.

  42. tradejuanpypaperbag

jnv – We are acting like 8 year olds – I agree!! But it is soooo much fun!!! Thanks for endulging us girls, even if we are not 8.

  43. tradejuanpypaperbag

Wow!!! eric – you are on a roll today!!! Aren’t you supposed to be working, hon? (lol!!) Fabulous!!!!!!!

  44. dodgereric

Oh, I knock off at 3. The Sheriff was In the House today, but I did the Dylan one during my lunch after I did a Belushi with my sandwich.

I’m wondering how many will get the connection to enchanted’s ‘ditty’ and mine?

  45. messagebear@msn.com

Looking at his stats for 2008 in particular, I don’t see how Cabrera from the White Sox will add anything special to our team. I would think Lowe would be of more value traded somewhere else, but then considering who’s doing the deals, that’s probably as much as we can expect. The best deal for us would be just to lose Ned.

  46. prepress@affordableoffset.com

why do the dodgers need **** anyway…between nomar and angel they have hitting and defense. the real issue is the outfield with 4 starters and no real power at 3b. if they get ****, where does nomar go? 3b? ph replacing sweeney???

if a. jones had just a normal year along with kent and nomar this team would only need fine tuning in late august. keep the team together and let them play to mid august. you can get lots of guys in waiver deals before aug 31.

i think laroache needs to be traded and will flourish in the mold of a tim wallach 3b. he is stuck in LA and probably has a bit of the injury but. plus why do the dodgers insist on screwing with their propsects – i.e. playing loney in the of last year. moving dy all over the place and now trying laroache at 1b and 2b and probably the outfield.

  47. tradejuanpypaperbag

I have just been informed by my gnat fan family that the dbacks are playing the gnats this weekend so that leads to the question – do I cheer on the gnats? or am I holding fast as a true Dodger fan? – lol!!! It will be a good pitching match up – Sanchez and Haren – hmmm!! What to do, what to do 🙂

  48. tradejuanpypaperbag

jnv- thank you for the permission 🙂 Matt Cain pitched a complete game shut out today.
    .
eric – I think I do but not sure 🙂

  49. porklinks

I root for the Giants to “inhale forcefully through pursed lips”, yet manage to eke out improbable wins against Arizona.

  50. dodgereric

On the George of the Jungle Show back in the late ’60s, they would sandwich episodes of Super Chicken and Tom Slick between slices of George. I don’t remember it lasting very long, only a season or two. I just know I liked it and all 3 theme songs have been burned into my memory. I was 14, 15, somewhere around there.

  51. enchantedbeaver

Was deleting some things off the old PC and came across this one I don’t think I ever posted, but if I did, here it is again. To Ramblin’ Man:

    BABBLIN’ MAN
    .
Lord, I was born a babblin’ man,
Tryin’ to be a GM and doin’ the best I can.
And when it’s time for leadin’
    I hope you’ll understand,
That I’m just a PR man
    .
Well I got me all my trainin’ up in Frisco,
And I somehow wound up here Dodgerland.
And my head still hurts where I fell off of the turnip truck
And getting Andre was just dumb luck.
    .
Lord, I was born a babblin’ man,
Tryin’ to be a GM and doin’ the best I can.
And when it’s time for leadin’
    I hope you’ll understand,
That I’m just a PR man
    .
    (Guitar interlude)
    .
I’m on my way to see JoJo this mornin’,
To see what kind of veterans he needs,
They always have some down on the dung heap pile
And Lord that Andruw still strikes out with a smile.
    .
Lord, I was born a babblin’ man,
Tryin’ to be a GM and doin’ the best I can.
And when it’s time for leadin’
    I hope you’ll understand,
That I’m just a PR man.

  52. jungar@wsgcorp.com

The Dodgers may also debut a new bat during the homestand, as manager Joe Torre has said general manager Ned Colletti has a number of “irons in the fire.”
    —-
7 days and your fire goes out.

  53. tradejuanpypaperbag

Giants pitchers for the weekend against the dbacks – Sanchez, Linsecum and Zito – dbacks – Haren, Webb and Johnson – will be a good pitching series perhaps 🙂

  54. lagirl27

I’ve been working. Just got to read the comments.
    .
Eric- thanks for the shout out in the Kemp song, and the fact that you wrote a Matt song 🙂 I feel the love
    .
Cp- I will tell you where I end up on saturday. I would love to meet you 🙂
    .
Westernmost- I got the link, but it doesn’t seem like he’s really gonna be there for the fans, just to pre-sign things to buy. Hmm. what else do you know about these things.
    .
Dnell and CP (again) I am truly happy your you gals getting to see your fav 🙂
    .

  55. porklinks

I said it before, but I hope that Ned’s “irons in the fire” are to brand “DFA” on the bloated hindquarters of the Curaçao Cow®

  56. tradejuanpypaperbag

eric – thanks for the explaination – I was trying to connect it in a different way lol!!
    .
enchanted’s making up for lost time – brilliant as always, I might add.
    .
westernmost – it’s not going to be easy to cheer on the gnats you know. It usually doesn’t happen the other way around. My husband will ( he does sometimes now), but my son, never – lol!!!

  57. crzblue2

    Amy,
don’t be shocked that Kent is having an appearance. Is not the first time! He made an appearance at the Macy’s in Northridge before. I’ll repeat the story my friend told when she went to see him there. He was running late so he apologized to everyone and told everyone that he will sign for all the people there and that everyone would get two tickets to a game. When it got to be my friend’s turn, he noticed how nervous she was so he smiled at her and old calm down.
    .
He has hosted the Women’s baseball clinic at the stadium for the last 3 years and he was hilarious all three times joking with everyone. Last year he said he asked some of the single guys ’cause they don’t have kids so they don’t have anything else to do or something like that. I admire his ethics, how he talks about his father who was a police officer and I admire that he stands by what he says. I have read Kemp say good things about him. I had to put my glove away from the last baseball clinic after Kent signed it. I have a nice picture of Kent and I and of my other friends with Kent.
    .
    JOSH, JOSH, JOSH!!!!!
Yes, I will take the trolley! Can’t wait!!! I take Metrolink everyday so I will take the trolley from Union Station. Thanks!!!
    .
Oh! also, Etheir’s apperance is the same day as the 80’s luncheon. Well, Ethier I already met when he was serving us food along with the rest of the Dodgers at Panda during the 2nd caravan. Loney was actually our waiter. He was shy at the time asking us “is there anything I can do for you?” We were just happy looking at him :-). you know the picture of Etheir holding some dishes and you can see the back of Loney, our table belonged to Loney 🙂
    .
I already paid for 3 tickets for the luncheon but I am afraid one of them will cancel to go see Ethier.

  58. porklinks

amy – I know absolutely nothing about those kinds of events. But they did term it “public”, unlike some others they called “private”.
    .
Miss Debbie – I wouldn’t call it so much “cheer on” as hope both stink and the Giants score the lucky run. You pointed out the pitching matchups – the hitters could all look really silly this weekend.
    .
dodgereric – when my daughter was young I bought her a couple George of the Jungle VHS tapes that included some Super Chicken and Tom Slick bits as well. We would watch them together, with her getting new laughs and me nostalgic ones.
    .
The song hilarity continues to amaze!

  59. tradejuanpypaperbag

crzblue – so, have you been to one of these signings before? If yes, how crazy is it? I never got tickets to the luncheon, but I tried several times and never got through, but maybe it’s a blessing because I would have been torn on what to do. I really want to meet Andre 🙂

  60. enchantedbeaver

Yeah jungar – Ned’s the kinda guy who’ll wait to the last second so the price goes up before he buys. And his “irons in the fire” go right through the holes in Joe’s head.

  61. lagirl27

Oh CRZBLUE- I do not have any bad feelings towards Kent at all. Haha- I’m actually one of the very few of us that supports the entire team. It’s just that he comes off as more standoffish in large gathering settings. It would be great to talk to you about all of your Dodger knowledge and experiences. I am just getting into these fan meet n greets, I’m new to the dugout club, etc. I’m doing a lot more to interact with the guys and I love them very much. You are obviously on a different level that I want to get to. I am young and live in LA and support myself, so I am in a position to get out there and participate.
    .

  62. tradejuanpypaperbag

Thanks westernmost – When the Dodgers play the Giants, I just sit quietly and watch so I will probably use the same approach for that series as well.

  63. dodgereric

LM3O, enchanted! I was checking to see if you repeated yourself – you didn’t – and I was laughing at just the titles:

“And they call it Juanpy love”
“You’re a rich man, but can’t throw it too far”
    “I AM MISTER NED”
“Your Andruw can’t play and Your Pierre can’t throw or hit”
“Why God is he our GM?”
“Oh lord, stuck with Nomar again”

    And my two personal favorites:

“I beg your pardon, there’s some manure in our outfield garden”

    and

“Will Joe still bat me ahead of ol’ Slappy at O-sixty-four?”

    Standing ovation……..

  64. lagirl27

I agree westernmost- the ad looked strange and then Josh didn’t mention it. Hmm, I will do some investigating.
    .
and like all of you I can’t wait til the boys are back in town. I miss going to the stadium. We need some wins!!!

  65. tradejuanpypaperbag

What in the world do “irons in the fire” mean to Ned – one could only imagine, and in my mind I am not imagining anything good.

    Two things:

1 – I don’t think I can ever root for the Giants. Even if it means we get to the playoffs, I would be grateful to them for something. I’d rather hate them for winning only when it screws us over.

2 – I wouldn’t mind Ned having irons in the fire if he would just do it right and not kill the cow.

  67. tradejuanpypaperbag

eric – that is my dilemma!! I don’t know if I can do it, and I never have before, but we haven’t been in this situation in a while. However, I guess as long as the Dodgers do their job and win, whatever happens in that series shouldn’t matter. right?
    .
Gotta go to a dinner and show – check in later tonight with whoever is up – 🙂 Have fun ITDers!!!!

With huge apologies to Lou Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side”
    .
    .
Andruw came from Atlanta in G-A
and ate his way across the U.S.A.
No workouts and tons of chow
And he became the Curaçao Cow®
We say, hey Jones, take a seat for the young guys,
We say, hey Andruw, take a seat for the young guys.
    .
Andruw came from out on the island.
In the backroom Ned was Boras’s darlin’.
    Ned paid out thirty-six million
Though Jones’ swing was really illin’.
We say, hey Jones, take a seat for the young guys,
We say, hey Andruw, take a seat for the young guys.
    .
    And the ITD girls go:
‘Dre, ‘Dre, ‘Dre, ‘Dre, ‘Dre, ‘Dre, ‘Dre, ‘Dre
‘Dre, ‘Dre, ‘Dre, ‘Dre, ‘Dre, ‘Dre, ‘Dre, ‘Dre

Matt Kemp, De Witt, Martin and Loney,
D Young, LaRoche, Hu, don’t forget Andre.
Now they play in The Show
And you can see them go, go, go!
They say, hey Joe, take a chance play us young guys,
They say, hey Ned, don’t you dare trade us young guys.
    All right, huh
    .
Nelly wants to see her Andre,
    Sara loves Russell every day,
    Amy will be Mrs. Kemp.
Despite management’s Moe, Larry, and Shemp
They say, hey Frank, don’t you dare trade our young guys,
They say, hey McCourt, we will root on our young guys!

Thanks enchanted. I just wanted the “ITD girls go ‘dre, ‘dre …” part, but I figured it was better form to do the whole song!

  70. cpompe1

hey dnel – yeah, I saw that jhall posted a song over there. Very nice!

amy – just let us know if you’ll be there on Saturday (not this Saturday, next Saturday 8/2). It definitely would be a blast to meet!

Now dnel got me thinking. I haven’t posted a song parody in a while (I told y’all that it would take me a while). Anyways, maybe I’ll come up with one before Saturday??? hmmmm….

  71. rgardnerv@yahoo.com

Jones came back early from knee surgery because of the injury to Juan Pierre.

“It could have been different if I had more at-bats at Triple-A, but I think the team needed another bat,” Jones said. “I can still work on stuff up here.”

But Torre said that Jones is able to implement changes suggested by Mattingly and Pentland during batting practice, but can’t take the changes into the game, instead falling back into his bad habits.

Jones blames most of his recent problems on opposing pitchers.

“The curveballs they throw me are basically unhittable,” he said. “The best I can do is foul off. I’m working to stay inside the ball and maintain my balance

Too many jokes can come from this…Im not even going to try.

  72. tradejuanpypaperbag

Waiting for show to start, sitting watching baseball, and I had to see what you all were talking about now, and what do I come across a song about Andre and the rest of our young gun dynasty. Absolutely fabulous westernmost!!!! Absolutely fabulous!!!!! Wow!!!! and thank you for putting up with the ITD gal stuff.
    .
CP – hope you are done painting and have fun writing a song – lol!!!

  73. cpompe1

rgardnerv – I read that article before and Druw blames his problems on opposing pitchers??? Druw, what do ya think??? I hate to break the bad news to you bud, but every hitter has to face opposing pitchers!

  74. cpompe1

dnel – I think I just came up with a good Styx song that would be good for Dre! And no, it’s not a Styx song that has already been done (according to eric’s blog). See y’all later… 🙂

  75. tradejuanpypaperbag

Good luck CP!! I did the one of the STYX songs – Renegade -it was about JP, but referred to Dre in it. Have fun!!!!

  76. messagebear@msn.com

Yes, it’s really to the point of being ridiculous to hear Andruw:
“Well, they’re always throwing me the bad stuff, and Andre gets all the good pitches – Matt too.”

  77. enchantedbeaver

To Andruw, a ball on a tee is pretty much unhittable. “It was just sitting there, taunting me to hit it, but all the while it knew I couldn’t. It was very unnerving. Baseballs are evil.”

  78. kpookiemon

dodgereric, I know I’m hours behind, but nice take off on Dylan. There is definitley “something happening here but you don’t know what it is, do you, Mr. Jones?” Or Mr. Torre? Ned, on the other hand, DOES know. It’s his job on the line, that’s what’s happening here. And he knows what all of us here know: that trading any kids for PVL crud is NOT a good way to further one’s career…or further this ball club. Jack Wilson…David Eckstein…Casey Blake…Adrian Beltre. Ummmmmmmm, PVL crud. Like the Twilight Zone episode where the gold thieves sleep for 100 years, this town–and Ned and Joe especially–need to sleep for two years. By that time, MartinLoneyKempEthierDeWittKershawBillingsleyBroxton et al will be a force in the National League. Two years is too unbearable a duration for you? There’s room in the sleep chamber for you.

  79. lagirl27

thanks for the shout on in the song westernmost. I appreciate it 🙂
    .
Cp- I will most definetly let you know 🙂 you know i love friends.
    .
hello to everyone else here tonight.

  80. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Hey everyone… I just noticed something interesting. On the Dodger homepage, if you scroll down to click on the link to get to this site. There used to be a picture of Russel Martin, Brad Penny, and Andruw Jones… Now the pictures are Russ Martin, Matt Kemp, and Chad Billingsley…. Just found that odd… Let me know what you guys think.

  81. lagirl27

yea brandon we saw that earlier. It’s awesome that they put the ‘young guys’ on the front. and matthew too 🙂

  82. leekfink

ericaadriane–welcome. Saw your first post and it’s good stuff. I have one point, which is that I blame Torre far more than anyone else–even Ned. Here’s why. We know there were some imperfect signings and moves by Ned (I’m being polite). But the point of having Joe Torre is that he is supposed to make the best moves for the team no matter what. If he is intimidated into playing Andruw over Kemp/Ethier because of his salary (either by Boras, or Ned, or Andruw), he is supposed to be able to say “I’m Joe F-ing Torre. I have 4 World Championship rings, 6 pennants, a dozen division titles, have been to the Post-Season every year since 1996, and they’ve already made my Hall of Fame plaque. I crap people tougher than you, and I’m only here beacause I can do exactly whatever the heck I want, so go sit on it.” And if it was McCourt (and I don’t think it is), he could say “look, pal, I know you’re the owner here, but I’ve spent 12 years dealing with Steinbrenner, so if you think you can scare me, think again. I’m going to manage the club my way, and if you don’t like it, I’ll call a press conference and announce I’m leaving, and then good luck as the wolves devour you.”
    .
That was the promise of Joe Torre. That was what we hoped we would get–a good baseball man who was not about to take any crap from anyone. And because of that, the best players (and all you have to do is look at the stats and know they are the kids) would play. I talked about this here back then.
    .
But instead, we get Joens rushed back, Pierre rushed back and perhaps leading off.
    .
Of course, what scares me the most is that maybe Torre really isn’t take gruff from anyone, but actually thinks these are the right moves–in which case we need to send in the men in the white coats with the straight-jackets.
    .
    So, I really fault Torre.
    .
Jungar–as always, you and I are right on the same page on almost everything–but, I have come to give credit to McCourt. I think he really wants to win–if for no other reason than winning is good for the bottom line. I just don’t think he knows quite how to do it, or quite who to put in place to get it done. Meanwhile, like Enchanted says, I think he may be the guy stopping Ned from making more disastarous moves (is it only because he’s cheap? maybe, but at least the results seem right.
    .
Mistakes for sure, but I think he’s trying.
    .
A note on this Cano for Kemp and Lowe nonsense. What??? Perhpas I am too high on Matt Kemp, but I don’t even think Cano for Kemp straight-up is a fair deal–even if we needed a second baseman. And why throw in Lowe?
    .
And that of course brings up the next issue–what do we do with Jeff Kent? If we need ****, and are willing to get a 3B in order to bring in a bat (and still leave a possible hole at short), why would we get a second-baseman? Maybe the idea is that Kent and Nomar can play SS–no, not alternating days, but at the same time–between the two of them, they should have the combined range and durability necessary.
    .
What I did notice is that this rumor is in the NY Post. Yesterday, I derided two Fox Sports writers for insane/inane trade speculation, and I assumed that they learned their learned their trade from teh loathsome Ken Rosenthal of the same organization (or, that Fox was just polluted with awful writers). The Post, of course, is owned by News Corp., the parent company of Fox. So I think it may just be a corporate problem.

  83. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

    according to espn:

“One rumor — heavily denied — is that they asked the Dodgers for Matt Kemp and/or Chad Billingsley for Wilson. But everyone agrees they want two or three players, depending on who they are, all of whom have to be big-league ready.”

    the pirates are CRAZY~!

  84. crzblue2

    Dnell,
Just get there early. Hey you will be on Overland, you could go to Tito’s tacos for a quick meal or Versailles.
    http://www.titostacos.com/
    http://www.versaillescuban.com/locations.html
    .
Amy, I know you do support all the boys! I figure they do better if I support them. I don’t like booing anyone on the home team. If they don’t do well, then I just keep quiet.
    .
Did I mention that last time I was in Vegas, Garvey was signing at one of the stores at Forum shops? this was back in March ’cause from there I flew to Vero Beach.
    .

  85. heartruss

Amy, as you already know, I’ve met many of the Dodgers. Jeff Kent is one of my favorites. He is quiet but that’s just the way he is. He has been nice to me. Nelly, you will love Andre when you meet him. He is absolutely gorgeous close up. And Matt…what can I say, he is absolutely awesome. Super nice. I also recently met Cory Wade. All the Dodgers are nice normal people. Who is the funniest? Chan Ho. I love him to pieces. I’m going to four games this weekend. Welcome back Dodgers!!!

  86. heartruss

I ran into Steve Garvey in one of the Dodger Stadium merchandise stores. He must have been shopping. I have mentioned before that I hate it when the “fans” boo our guys. Boo for the enemy. It’s very discouraging, I’m sure, and doesn’t help. I can’t wait until August…when that dastardly trade deadline is over. I will have to give away my season tickets if they trade any of my guys. I’m serious.

  87. redfox@q.com

It’s really sad that at this long-awaited time when the Dodgers are finally poised at the brink of a new glory era that there is incompetency in management that may destroy it all. For some reason, probably their egos, Ned and Joe seem to think that they have to make their presence felt by doing things, even if they are non-sensible. What the team needs is for Ned and Joe to GET OUT OF THE WAY and LET THE KIDS PLAY. We don’t need other team’s discards! The grass is always greener with someone else, who comes in and doesn’t perform to expectations and blocks the players who should be playing. An outfield of Young, Kemp, and Ethier and an infield of LaRoche, Garciaparra/DeJesus, DeWitt, and Loney with Martin catching is all we need! Pencil them in and let them play every day in a set line-up. If management isn’t satisfied with what they’ve done so far, recognize that you (management) are the primary cause. How can anyone perform up to their potential when they are in and out of the lineup with constantly changing batting orders? How would you perform if you were constantly in fear of being traded, benched, sent down, or unfairly criticized? Injuries have forced a more reasonable lineup, but Joe has given indications that he still doesn’t get it, even after four months. And if Ned wants to make some changes, let him trade Lowe, Kent, and Pierre for some good prospects and DFA Jones and Sweeney. Get rid of the illusion that adding another player here or there will put the Dodgers over the top. Play the kids you already have and you’ll do much better both now and in the future. Trade the kids and you’ll trade away your future for more of the same old mediocrity.

  88. crzblue2

xoxorussell is right, Andre is gorgeous up close. When I first saw him in regular clothes up close in San Francisco I turned to my friend “You are so right, Andre is so cute!” lol, yes I am old enough to be his mom.
    .
Hey I read the matchup for Saturday is D.Lowe against Odalis Perez. A couple of years back when I was in St. Louis, I talked to Odalis and I told him that he was better than what he was pitching. I don’t know what happened to this guy, but I hope he is bad Saturday. Sunday I hope Kershy finally gets his win. His next start after that will be against Randy Johnson. This is going to remind me of a game I saw in Arizona with Edwin Jackson making his debut on his 20th or was it 21st bday against Randy.

  89. tradejuanpypaperbag

    Hey girls!! what’s up?
    .
leefink and redfox – awesome posts as usual!!!
    .
crzblue – Thanks for the tip – How early is early ? Is it an actual shopping center? I am a little excited, can you tell? That’s where I saw Steve Garvey – Forum Shops 🙂

  90. dodge1612

we dont need to trade at the deadline… if they have to make a trade have it involve druw and slappy mcdribbler… kent is still half way productive and I like him… other than that, NED DONT TRADE OUR GOOD PLAYERS…

  91. tradejuanpypaperbag

Just for the record: I have been very vocal on here about who I think should be playing, but I have never booed my team during a game. I want them to win. Now, if Ned were to walk on the field, then I would boo. He is the reason we have Pierre and Jones. If they would have trusted Andre and Matt’s talent in the beginning, JP and Jones(especially) wouldn’t be here. So, I really do hope Ned has learned some sort of lesson from all of this and doesn’t do a trade with anybody, but I know this is wishful thinking, but I do have that shread of hope that maybe he will regain some sort of common sense not to do anything stupid that would further jeopardize our young gun dynasty. sigh 🙂
    .
Also, as for lineups – Torre is to blame. Like many have said, he has managed the Yankees, and I think he can handle our media and Ned pretty well if he wants to.

  92. tradejuanpypaperbag

It’s kind of scary that I was able to write a song on vacation. I turn songs into parodies in the middle of everywhere now.

    Song: ITD’s Shouting
    Original Song: I’m Still Standing
    by: Elton John
    .
Joe could never know what it’s like
His blood like winter freezes just like ice
But there’s a warm bright light shines from youth
They’ll wind up as the best
In spite of what Joe might do
    .
Joe didn’t think that youth would ever win
Well look at this Juan’s coming back again
But Joe’ll find out in a simple way
That if he needs to know why
    ITD’s shouting for youth everyday
    .
    Don’t you know
    ITD’s shouting
    Better than we ever did
    Speaking like a true believer
    Trusting in the Dodger kids
    ITD’s shouting
    After all this time
    Speaking up for players
    On this team
    Without vets on our mind
    .
    ITD’s shouting yeah, yeah, yeah
    ITD’s shouting yeah, yeah, yeah
    .
Now we never could hope to win
Joe started down the road playing vets again
The things he’s done we’re meant to bring them down
And if Joe’s world were just a circus
He’d be a clown by now
    .
    Don’t you know
    ITD’s shouting
    Better than we ever did
    Speaking like a true believer
    Trusting in the Dodger kids
    ITD’s shouting
    After all this time
    Speaking up for players
    On this team
    Without vets on our mind
    .
    ITD’s shouting yeah, yeah, yeah
    ITD’s shouting yeah, yeah, yeah

  93. tradejuanpypaperbag

eric – in the last verse it instead of “bring them down” it shoud be “bring youth down” – thanks 🙂

  94. kpookiemon

“OF Matt Kemp extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a single on Wednesday. He has hit safely in 16 of his past 17 games, batting .307 with 11 RBI, all from the leadoff spot.”

But, hey, Pierre knows how to lead off……?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I just realized I am so sick and tired of the farce known as the Dodger outfield. If these were four nameless guys, with name, age, and salary unknown, guess which specimen would be riding the pine until Doomsday? Followed closely by specimen #2.

  95. tradejuanpypaperbag

Kahli – great post!!! ~ Why can’t Joe figure this out? He can’t be this blind, can he? The statistics can’t justify keeping Kemp out of the lead-off spot, but all we hear is Pierre’s the best one for the job. How long can Andruw continue to take BP during a game when all the other players are out there to win a game? Ethier and Kemp have done everything asked of them and more in some cases, and they are going to get the royal shaft due to stupidity of not seeing what’s right in front of him – wonderful young talent.

  96. northstateblues

Hello Night Owls. How is everyone? I see the songwritting bug is alive and well, maybe I should get back in the mix.

Hoping to make it to one of the Dodgers-Giants games since I’m in SoCal next week. I love Dodger Stadium, I’ll call it “my old lady”, which usually makes my girl raise an eyebrow at me. I miss being able to go to opening day every year… guess you have to miss out on some things for a while to realize how good you once had it.

Won’t be able to make it to the signings, but I hope everyone that does has a good time.

  97. tradejuanpypaperbag

Hey northstateblues!! That’s great you get to see the Dodgers play the gnats at home instead of AT&T. It Should be a good series. I get to see them play the dbacks – fun and intense for sure 🙂

  98. northstateblues

Kahli: I hear you. I’m hoping Pierre isn’t rushed, comes back healthy and performs well, but THE BEST PLAYERS HAVE TO PLAY, and right now, Matt Kemp is the best leadoff hitter we’ve had since Furcal went down. Why break what’s working? If Pierre has to platoon with anyone, it should be A.J.

  99. kpookiemon

I only have energy for one short verse, but kudos to all of you. Many great songs tonight. A potporri of fun. My problem is I love this title but can’t really remember the song…

“I don’t mind PVLs playing on the team
That’s fine, I know they play pretty well
But I know sometimes they must get out of the light
Better sit their *** down for the kids, they’re alright
    The kids are alright.”

  100. tradejuanpypaperbag

kalhi – I love that song – one verse is plenty. Sometimes the simpler the better – don’t you think?

  101. northstateblues

Cool dnel! Those should be exciting. I know I’m gonna go crazy rooting against those Gnasty Gnats. Hoping to see the return of ANDRE THE GIANTKILLER.

Great Elton John cover, by the way. We’re all shouting alright! I’ve been wanting to do one to Goodbye Yellow Brick road, but it’s a tall order, kinda like I’ve been meaning to tackle the great Danny Kaye Dodger Song, but haven’t gotten the audacity yet. With regards to the Kaye song, it’s like Kemp at leadoff, why mess with a good thing?

  102. northstateblues

re-acquainting myself with the lyrics for Goodbye Yellow Brick road… this song’s just SCREAMING to be covered here… hmmm…

  103. tradejuanpypaperbag

Northstateblues – I know what you mean. I have been trying todo some of my all time favorite songs, but those lyrics are hard to change, and as for the Danny Kaye Dodger Song, you are probably right on that – too good to change.

  104. kpookiemon

“Garciaparra is batting .306 (15-of-49) with five doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI in 14 games since returning from the disabled list on July 4.”

If Nomar can actually stay healthy, it’s like a quality PVL deadline trade. Nomar becomes…JOE HARDY, living the dream season, leading the hapless heroes to the long-awaited pennant. One final explosion of glory…before vanishing………………

  105. tradejuanpypaperbag

With a lefty pitching tomorrow for the Nationals, and if Pierre is back, I bet Andre sits even though his average against lefties is .203 now, a 40 point increase from the last time he sat because of Pierre and Jones. It still higher than Andruw’s average. Did you know Andruw’s average for the last 10 days, is only .138? Isn’t that just a dandy number? uugghh!! I am all wound up after the show and can’t sleep right now. I guess alot will be said tomorrow on how Torre values his kids and vets based on what he does with the lineup.

  106. northstateblues

How’s Vegas, btw? Saw you met Garv, that’s awesome! I remember going up to the club level a couple of years ago with my dad to get an autographed bobblehead from Cey. We also saw, within 5 minutes, Steve Garvey, Jim Hill and Kevin Kennedy. Culture shock for me coming from Marysville earlier that day! I couldn’t muster any words. My dad chatted with Cey, was speechless in Garv’s presence, and excitied said “Mr. Hill, good to see you”, for which Jim nodded and smiled. I just stood frozen like a 9 year old girl at a New Kids concert in 1989.

On the way back to our snazzy Field level seats (only time I ever sat in Yellow), even saw Rob Reiner to boot. My brother and cousin take the cake, though. Last year, they were down by the dugout club to witness some poor stadium worker asking Tommy Lasorda for his ID to get into the club. “DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?!!!” “Yessir, we… we… just need to check…” then Lasorda just passed the kid and went into the club. Serendipity is a sweet mistress.

  107. tradejuanpypaperbag

I think Nomar has been one of the few positives coming out of the vet side. It is good to see, and yes, he needs to stay healthy and not force Ned into a corner, if he doesn’t already think that.

  108. northstateblues

Nothing would probably make me happier than to see a healthy Nomar. That guy is a killer catalyst, and we missed the hell outta him last year.

Yeah Nelly, we need to put Pierre in Jones’ place, not Ethier’s. How can the kids learn to swim if they don’t jump in the water? Problem is, we already know these guys can do a lot more than dog paddle.

  109. tradejuanpypaperbag

Vegas is pretty good so far. I really haven’t done much. We went to a dinner and show with some friends who live here, and mostly I’ve been watching baseball on the big screens. I placed a few small bets on my football teams for both NCAA and NFL, but other than that, I’ve been catching up on reading and doing some writing on here. We are going to take the kids to see Dark Knight tomorrow and spend some time away from the hotel. We used to live here so we know how to get around pretty well.

  110. northstateblues

cool. Jason Taylor is a hoss (not a horse, a hoss!), and my girlfriend’s mom (a Dolphins fanatic) still hasn’t said one word about the trade, and I wouldn’t ask her, ’cause that was her man, her ‘Dre. Needless to say, she hopes the Tuna goes back to Joisey soon.

I’ve learned never to bet on my teams, heh. Between the Dodgers, Lakers and Raiders, that was probably a safe bet the last 5 years. This year, though, I’ll bet that Al Davis will instill himself as Head Coach by week 4, wearing a Napoleon hat.

Seriously, I have a lot of respect for Al Davis, but Wow. And Jon Heyman was saying the Dodgers front office is a mess! And a word to the wise, I think we all know why Logan has that “unusual say-so”. Where does McCourt keep all the heads?

  111. tradejuanpypaperbag

Damn!! you posted before I got back here. It’s fun ready all the old songs. I was looking for an Andre song earlier and can’t believe some of the ones we did – pretty incredible!!!

  112. tradejuanpypaperbag

Northstateblues – I wouldn’t bet on the Raiders ethier (either) – lol!!! My team hasn’t won anything in years, but it’s only a $5 bet so no harm done. I figure that $5 will last me a whole football season vs. one hand of black jack. Why lakers and not Kings? I grew up a Laker fan, and I switched to the Kings when I went to school in Sacramento.

Hi June darlin’! I’ve been trying to arrange a Power Point of Matt’s Eagle Project. You may have noticed that I pulled it from our blog. The day after I put it on there, the photos were all screwed up and it just wouldn’t load any more.

I’ve never done one of these before and it’s done, but it’s HUGE – 24 megs. I’m sure there must be a way to compress the pictures, but I haven’t found it yet. I’m sure there’s someone on this blog who is smarter than this old ditch digger.

  114. tradejuanpypaperbag

That’s great, hon!! I’m sure it looks great!!! Don’t sell yourself short, dear, you are wonderful at the things you do. 🙂

  115. dodgereric

Well, I subscribe to the theory of ‘keep pressing buttons until you get what you want. It eventually works, but not always. I’m a teensy bit stubborn 🙂 and didn’t want to go to bed until I got it right. I think I’m about to fade away. I need to go to work in about 4 hours……

  116. tradejuanpypaperbag

I am heading to bed, too. I just wanted to get my song typed and posted and didn’t realize NSB and Kahli were on so I chatted for a little while. Good night and it’s TGIF tomorrow and hopefully a Dodger win.

  117. tradejuanpypaperbag

No he did not come home. Probably out with boys again. It’s okay – he’s a good boy, and we trust him 🙂

  118. tradejuanpypaperbag

Theodore was home most of the day though, but you know that because you and he worked on those songs – how swell was that!!!

Hi eric, you’re Super Chicken and Tom Slick inspired me. To Chavez Ravine, our beloved Fort Courage:

    Blue Troop
(to the tune of F Troop)

The end of the Trade Deadline was near
the fans were all struck with dread,
A GM who snoozed was sure to lose
wearing a hat way too big for his head

His S.F. pennant ring gleamed and glew
As he worked for a new family group.
But in the years since, the tarnish grew
As he fumbled and assumed command of Blue Troop.

Where front office fights are colorful sights
It’s the kids who take a lickin’.
When ol’ Neddy Storch works the phone at night,
    Frank turns chicken.

When slumping and fighting get us down
We know our morale can’t droop.
As long as the Blue play in our town,
We’ll all salute our bums with a hoot,
    BLUE TROOP!!!!!

dnel, I can’t shake the Lakers, heh. When I moved up here in 2001, I was still a Lakers fan (even through the Del Harris, Cedric Ceballos, Nick van Exel, Eddie Jones years). Plus, as you know, the first time I mentioned I liked the Lakers, I got a response that felt like I had landed in Boston 1986 wearing a James Worthy jersey. Having people telling me my team sucked when their rafters were bare except for an Oscar Robinson retired jersey.

It’s a shame, too. If the Lakers weren’t good that year, I would’ve pulled for the Kings to win, they’re the perfect underdog team, and they had a great team for so long. But after all the sometimes good-natured, sometimes ill-natured ribbing I’ve taken for the Purple and Gold, shaking the Lakers for the Kings would be like shaking the Raiders for the Chiefs. I won’t use LA and SF… I had the sentence typed out, and it made me a little sick.

  122. messagebear@msn.com

    Good morning all Dodger fans!!!

Looking at a couple of recent articles, I have to comment that “over-involved” MCourt nixing a couple of trades is finally showing that he must be realizing what a loser Ned is. Now is the time to take one of those “irons in the fire” and stick it right up Ned’s you know what. So, let’s make Logan and Ng the GM’s for the rest of the season and
FIRE NED NOW, if not sooner.

  123. tradejuanpypaperbag

Good Morning ITD writers and readers!!
    .
Northstateblues – Fabulous songs!!! Also, I hear you about the Lakers. I do have a place for them in my heart still, and when it came down to the end this year, I was pulling for them to win it all.
    .
messagebear – It does seem like their might be some light at the end of that Ned tunnel. That would be worth the season right there is to have him gone.

  124. tradejuanpypaperbag

I used the wrong “their”. It should be “there”. I really hate when I do that 🙂

  125. dodgereric

    Gooooooodmorning ITD!!!!

Mornin’ June! Yep! You guessed it. North’s F-Troop parody is song #300! Unglaublich!

  126. enchantedbeaver

I agree bear – why keep Ned around if he’s only a figurehead now and trades are all done by committee? If he’s that ineffectual, replace him right this second. Its obvious from rumors, even if half true, that they’ll always be the “Dodger premium” with Ned at the helm when it comes to trades. As long as that’s in place, nothing ever will get done.

It also sounds like Frank is getting hit in the one place he actually understands – his bottom line. Spending $135 million and getting absolutely no return from it isn’t a good thing. That’s roughly 1/4 of his budget for “the next 50 years” renovations at the Ravine.

Now a little blasphemy – is it possible that Logan White’s a little TOO attached to his prospects? Marty, James, Matt, Kersh, Andre, Billz, Brox – definately untouchable. But Hu, DeWitt, LaRoche (I still want him to get a real shot first), Wade, etc… you have to give up talent to get talent. IF (and that’s a big if) you can get greater or equal value for one or a combination of these guys that would fill some holes, I think you have to be open and willing to do so.

Not that it would necessarily be a bad thing, but should Logan become GM, will he be able to complete a trade? It may be the “Dodger premium” in reverse. No one will trade with us because we’ll never give up anyone of some value.

Seems to me there’s a happy medium in there somewhere.

  127. tradejuanpypaperbag

Good Morning Dear!! Wow!!! That’s great Ward!! Song Number 300!!!! Won’t the boys be glad to hear that, along with these other mighty fine folks!!! Did you sleep well? The boys were awfully quiet last night. Not too much rumblings around.

  128. dodgereric

    Good morning Beav!

I suppose it’s always possible that White might be too attached to the youngsters, but we’ll really never know that until he gets the juice to prove it by getting the reins, right?

  129. tradejuanpypaperbag

Good Morning, Dear!! Wow!!! 300 songs ~ That great Ward!!! How did you sleep dear? The boys were awfully quiet last night, not too much rumblings late last night.
    .
Hey wait! Is that Theordore who is up? Good Morning, son. Did you get a good night sleep too? H?ow about some breakfast?

  130. dodgereric

I slept well, but obviously not long!

I think the rumblings will increase now that The Beaver is up and running!

  131. tradejuanpypaperbag

Now that’s weird – I got kicked off the computer temporarily and it still posted – sorry, but it worked out sort of since enchanted wasn’t posted the first time ~ very strange!!

  132. enchantedbeaver

Morning Mom, morning Dad. W-W-W-Where’s Wally? I sure hope that the creepy people don’t show up tonight.

  133. tradejuanpypaperbag

BTW – great post enchanted!! This day should prove to be very long and interesting with a possible Pierre return tonight and maybe an extra bat according to one of the articles I read. Which domino will fall this time?

  134. tradejuanpypaperbag

Beav – What do you mean “where’s Wally? We thought he was with you. Ward!!! Beaver says Wally isn’t home yet!! What should we do?

  135. jungar@wsgcorp.com

    to 4th place we go:

“I hope that I can add a little bit more to the lineup,” offered Pierre, who said his knee feels fine two days into his comeback. “I don’t get caught up in trying to do too much. I just do what I can do: get on base and score runs and play good defense. Wherever that leads us, it leads us.”******** this.

  136. tradejuanpypaperbag

So, I guess this means he will be in the lineup tonight. That’s great!!!! Maybe that’s what Torre was referring to when he said we would get an extra bat -lol!!! It’s an extra bat all right. A ground ball/pop up type of bat – that’s a plus to the lineup when you will have the .280/.290 batter sitting on the bench. Makes perfect sense to me – not!!!

  137. enchantedbeaver

Pierre’s obviously a legend in his own mind… Good defense? Gets on base and scores runs?

He is right though when he says he doesn’t try to do too much.

  138. enchantedbeaver

You’re probably right nells – Pierre’s the “extra bat.” Its only extra though if they sit Druw’s fat *** on the pine, but we know that won’t happen because FA needs somemore time to iron out the kinks. Dre sits – book it.

While you’re in Vegas mom, might as well place a bet on Juanpy for tonight – Ground out/single/pop-up/pop-up. Druw too: K/fly out/BB/K – and a tremendous chorus of boos.

  139. messagebear@msn.com

If Pierre replaces Andruw, then fine – that would possibly be like an extra bat; if anybody else sits as a result, then Torre is just being Torre just like Pierre is being Pierre, and that will be a terrible combination once again.

  140. tradejuanpypaperbag

enchanted/jungar – What are these people trying to do to us? They must think we are a bunch of idiots that don’t know what’s going on. However, you said it before jungar, the casual fan that just shows up at the ballpark doesn’t know the stats, and they don’t follow the hypocrisy we have read and seen. Well, like many have said, maybe today is the start of the final days of Ned Colletti because this team is not going to win with Jones and Pierre playing on the same field at the same time, and if the Dodgers do happen to win a some, it certainly won’t be because of what they bring to the field together ~ nothing like what Kemp and Ethier brought to the game together at the top of the order.

  141. jhallwally

Good morning mom, dad, Beav, and ITD.
Well, should be interesting to see what happens when Phew returns. I am not very optimistic that JoJo will make the correct decisions. Oh well, we can only hope it hastens Ned’s departure.
    Great songs everyone. LOL!!!!
Lots of good posts, articles, observations, and points everyone.
    NO TRADES NED!!!!!!!!!

  142. enchantedbeaver

So glad JP brings such quality ABs to the top of the line-up. Are there any pitchers who are afraid to throw him a strike?

You know, even if they fire Ned this team still goes nowhere with JoJo managing. Both need to be ridden out of town on a rail. Honestly, I think JoJo’s a bigger idiot that Ned.

    And that’s saying A LOT.

  143. scott_in_arcadia

I will NOT follow a Joe Torre led team any longer. Today’s comments in the paper just show what a ******* he really is. Even in the face of glaring statistics, we are fed so much bull crap it’s insulting. Hello, Mike Scioscia! Call me when it’s over.

  144. tradejuanpypaperbag

scott ~ thanks for the article ~ I would really like it explained why a strikeout is different from a pop up or ground out. They both result in the same damn thing – an out!!! I would still rather chance a strike out or a definite extra base/HR than a possible single with a possible stolen base, which usually ends up being a ground out/pop out. I just don’t get the logic behind this at all. A strike and a popup/ground out have the same result – it’s an out!!! An out is an out is an out. Matt is getting on base more often that’s what should matter and not how he is getting on or what the outcome of his outs are.

  145. jhallwally

Scott, thanks for the article link. However, after reading it I have lost my appetite. JoJo really has some screws loose!!!
Yep Beav, that Eddie and Lumpy are pretty creepy!!

  146. tradejuanpypaperbag

Good Morning Wally!!! Dad and I are so glad you are home and safe. Beav was right – we were worried you got caught up with that Eddie and his ways of getting into mischief.
    .
jhall – this is so very frustrated beyond words right now. It feels like we were in dreamland with an almost perfect lineup and now we have spun right back into the twilight zone into Joe/Pierre/Jones land of misfit Dodgers.

  147. enchantedbeaver

Much like Ned scott, it makes you wonder who’s side JoJo is on. I can’t fathom that he watches the same players we do.

  148. jhallwally

It has definately gotten ridiculous and will probably get worse. I just keep hoping it leads to Ned’s firing but as Beav said, JoJo has become a huge problem with his stupid lineups and stubborness regarding Cow-Phew!!!
If he plays both Cow and Phew and sits Ethier or Kemp,
    It will flatly be; UNACCEPTABLE!!!™

  149. tradejuanpypaperbag

What I meant to say in regards to Kemp and Ethier at the top of the order, too, it’s a spark that’s there when those two are in the lineup together, and with Russell right behind them they are a force to be reckoned with because you don’t know what they are going to do. You don’t know if Matt is going to strikeout or hit a homerun or get a single and steal a base. You don’t know if Ethier is going to draw out a walk after being down 0-2 in the count or hit a homerun or hit an opposite field double into the corner. That is what is exciting about them – they bring life and anticipation to the game because you don’t know what they are going to do. Pierre brings the same thing – a pop up, a ground out, a single every once in a while with a stolen base and a few doubles. There is no spark in this at all – all totally predictable and not even fun to watch. Same with Jones and on a worse note, he is just down right

  150. scott_in_arcadia

Hi everyone! Everything in that article made me cringe and I just can’t support this idiocy. I actually hope either the Dodgers lose 10 in a row and fire Ned and Joe or they trade their young players to the Angels so I can follow them there.

  151. tradejuanpypaperbag

pathetic right now, and I feel sorry for him, but I blame Torre for showcasing him out there every game like the fans are going to change their minds and forget Ethier or Kemp is sitting on the bench.
    .
sorry computer posted too soon 🙂

  152. tradejuanpypaperbag

I agree whole heartedly that this is more than just a Ned issue – this stuff goes far deeper than just Ned.

  153. scott_in_arcadia

It’s not just Ned. No one is putting a gun to Torre’s head to make him say all that to the media. He’s just as big an idiot or more than Ned. It’s not that Pierre can’t help the team batting 8th and replacing Jones, but it’s the WORDS that are being used to describe Pierre as the savior and that he was PROMISED the lead off spot!! There is a HUGE problem here with recognition of talent. The blowing up of Pierre to a larger than life savior is just ridiculous. I’m not a stupid lemming for Frank, Ned ans Joe! I don’t give a rat’s how many “rings” Torre has won. Maybe the Yanks would have won 10 straight without him. Good riddance!!

  154. jungar@wsgcorp.com

I have been a dodger fan since I was 6. I’m 37. I have lived in Orange County since I was 27. I am not an Angel fan but remian loyal to the dodgers. I don’t know why. Without going into it to much, I may finally be with Scott. It’s 25 min to stadium vs hour and a half and everything is cheaper. And the product is better. Time is running out Dodgers.

  155. tradejuanpypaperbag

scott – Torre has been a hypocrite since day one when he said the left field job was Ethier’s to lose. Ethier never lost his job. It was given away. I haven’t trusted him since day one to do the right thing, and it has gotten worse since then. Even in this presumably good stretch with a pretty good lineup. We still were never confident in thinking it was going to be the same. That in itself is a trust issue. There is absolutely no trust that Torre will ever do the right thing to win a ball game, and if they happen to win a game, it will be because of the other team sucking worse than we did for that day. It won’t be because we played the best because a lineup where you have Kemp or Ethier sitting is not your best lineup as long as they are on this roster.

  156. lagirl27

good morning. you all were busy last night.
    .
I had a dream this morning that Nomar and Furcal got traded. Not like it’s happening or anything, but I was really upset in my dreams. See, all this trade talk has me dreaming about losing players 😦 not cool.
    .
    Nelly, hot in Vegas?
    .
Crzyblue/ Xoxo- I am glad we are on the same page 🙂 Thank you for understanding!
    .
It’s Friday!!!! And Tonight we’ve got Dodger baseball!!!! I still want to go to the game tonight. Who will go with me?!?!?!?

  157. heartruss

Come on everyone. The Dodgers are back in town. Let’s give them our support. Can anyone say anything positive? How do you know that our guys aren’t reading this? I heard that some of the guys don’t read it anymore probably because of the negativity. Please! 🙂

  158. perumike

Good morning all! Hope everyone is having a great Friday, and that we all end our Friday putting a serious beating on the Nats (not the Gnats, the Nats) 🙂

  159. ramslover

Wow that article in the Times shows 2 things..one the writer should be fired for being such a brown noser and not knowing baseball….Kemp is getting on base more and is slugging over 500 and he has only 6 SB in the leadoff spot…in how many games you moron!!! He is stealing 1 in 3 games on average and scoring runs….Pierre does not get on and yes he can run but if you do not get on you cannot run…nothing against Pierre but if Ethier or Kemp sits this is wrong…we all know who should sit!!!!

The second thing Torre is delusional, Pierre knows how to lead off? Just because he knows how, does not mean he can do it!!!….279 OB in the leadoff spot Joe is not good, just in case you did not know that….He should be batting 8th or 9th…yes 9th, he is that weak of a hitter…

I do believe that the Dodgers had a winning record without him and a losing one with him leading off…how many more facts do you need Joe?

Also Frank, the article by Heyman shows how dysfunctional the Ds are….they cannot make a decision. Fire Ned, it is obvious you have no confidence in him…Logan, I agree with the above post, he may be too in love with all the prospects, but i would feel better with him in the GM role. Some have to go, we need a bat and CC would have been looking real good in Blue…he is a horse…

We have to take advantage of the homestand…this could be our season!!!!

  160. lagirl27

xoxo- I am positive through and through 🙂 Love all the guys and wish them well!! I do my best to keep moral up on the blog.
if you don’t mind of course, what other blog are you on that is more positive??

  161. dodgereric

I think that to preserve our collective sanity, it would help if we learn a little more about who we are forced to deal with, i.e., liars.
Torre (“He’s a good spark plug for us.”)
Pierre (“I just do what I can do: get on base and score runs and play good defense.”)
Jones (“It could have been different if I had more at-bats at Triple-A, but I think the team needed another bat.”)

    Types of liars
    From:http://www.geocities.com/changes1611//sins22lies5c.html

1 – Occasional liars. Occasional liars, which most of us are, really don’t like to lie, but they’ll do so every now and then to avoid an unpleasant situation or because they don’t want to admit doing something wrong or embarrassing. Because they feel uncomfortable lying, they’ll usually reveal their lies through their appearance, body language and voice.

2 – Frequent liars. Frequent liars know lying is wrong, but it doesn’t make them as uncomfortable as the occasional liar. For this reason, they are more likely to lie regularly and are less likely to reveal lies through their appearance. However, because they are more comfortable lying, they do not pay as much attention to the consistency and logic of their statements.

3 – Habitual liars. Habitual liars are fairly uncommon. These are people who have difficulty separating fact from fiction and who say whatever comes to their minds no matter how exaggerated, ridiculous, illogical or untruthful it may be. A good example is the 25-year-old who brags about his many worldly adventures, even though in reality he would have to be 80 to have accomplished all that he talks about. Habitual liars lie so frequently that they never show physical discomfort, but they are so sloppy with content that they are easy to catch.

4 – Professional liars. These are the hardest to identify. They don’t lie indiscriminately, like the habitual liar. They lie for a purpose. These are people like the mechanic who routinely cons motorists about their faulty transmissions, or the realtor who explains that ceiling stains are the result of old damage from a water leak in the attic, as opposed to a leaky roof. Professional liars have thought their lies through and know exactly what they’re going to say and when. Because the lie has been practiced so often, it will not be revealed by the liar’s voice, body language or appearance. The only way to catch professional liars is by checking their statements against an independent source.

Although they are all truly professional liars, they are most accurately catagorized as #3. By anyone not totally hypnotized by their celebrity, the words “exaggerated, ridiculous, illogical or untruthful” are absolutely accurate as to the insultingly obvious lies they are attempting to pawn off on us fans. It’s now way beyond humorous.

  162. tradejuanpypaperbag

Good Morning Amy!! Forgive me now for being a little upset because according to the articles posted this morning, I believe Andre will be sitting in favor of JP and Andruw tonight, and in my mind right now, it is completely unfair and unjustified. I know,it hasn’t happened yet, but it will – it’s a lefty pitching and we all know what that means by now. However, there is that shread of hope in me that Andruw will find some ailment that is bothering him that will lead him back onto the DL, in which I will be truely thankful and will probably go to h*ll for thinking it.
    .
enchanted, jhall and eric – I’m ready for the party!! 🙂

  163. scott_in_arcadia

jungar, I’m 40, and the Dodgers have been my number 1 team my whole life. I also have always rooted for the Angels as there has never been any “real” rivalry until the interleague stuff started a few years back. Dodgers – NL, Angels – AL, but my true allegiance was always with the Dodgers, because Dodger Stadium used to be amazing, the Dodger way was unique. I grew up on Garvey, Lopes, Russell and Cey! Organ music, no ads on the walls, good clean fun at the stadium. That has all changed as well as having non Dodger people manage, GM, and own this team. Let’s face it, the Angels are doing things the right(Dodger?) way these days and who’s their leading man? Ex-Dodger Mike Scioscia. I will always be a fan of Martin, Ethier, Kemp, Loney, Bills, etc. wherever they play.

  164. tradejuanpypaperbag

Eric – you are absolutely incredible in your assessment of this situation. I am very proud of you Ward, dear, and the boys will be very proud as well. They will think “We have a pretty swell dad after all” 🙂

  165. lagirl27

haha. I know where you are coming from Dnelly. No need for an explanation. This 4 man outfield/vet vs. kids is such a hard problem. I also wish it would go away and work out in our favor.
You will no be going to the underworld, at least you would not be alone, most every other Dodger fan has the same opinion as you. lol. but don’t worry your love of the team will save you 🙂
    Good morning!!

  166. scott_in_arcadia

I’m sorry that some here have confused “negativity” with “reality”. Keep on pouring your time and money into this joke of a franchise. There will have to be a lot of changes for me to be convinced.

  167. jhallwally

Well, if we are only going to talk about the positives, it narrows it down to chatting about Marty, Andre, Kemp, Loney, Billz, Healthy Nomar, and most of the bullpen.

  168. messagebear@msn.com

Pierre is likely to remain Ned’s legacy long after he’s gone, because Frank compounded Ned’s mistake by taking on Torre, who will insist on playing him as long as he’s here. That’s a real double whammy for us. I’m sure that Torre isn’t going anywhere, because Frank would look too foolish to have to let both him and Ned go. I’d settle for getting rid of Ned, but it needs to be sooner rather than later.

  169. tradejuanpypaperbag

scott – I am with you on the “reality” thing. Also, I hope the players and FO does read this. They need to know how we feel and that we know what Joe/Ned are doing is wrong. I would think Andre and Matt would find comfort in knowing we are on their side. They will never say it, but they know they are better than JP and Andruw right now, and I feel we are just speaking for them. I think they will appreciate it when they are riding pine in the weeks to come. So, I look at these comments as helpful to some that may need comfort in knowing they are not alone, whether you are a fan, working in the FO or a player.

  170. scott_in_arcadia

‘Morning Amy! I’ve rooted for the Dodgers win or lose for almost 40 years and I have weathered some pretty stupid moves in the past of course. But, now I’m having a real philosophical problem with Ned and Joe. As soon as Logan White is GM and Torre is gone as well, I will have hope.

  171. tradejuanpypaperbag

I know Wally, but you know your dad. He doesn’t like that Eddie fella. He’s just a little too charming to be good, and he worries about you when you are with him.

  172. dodgereric

You’re too easily influenced by him, son. I know you were brought up right, and I want to be your best friend as well as your dad. But sometimes I can’t be both.

It’s for your own good. You’ll thank me some day.

  173. jungar@wsgcorp.com

I said this last year, all freeking year here, I don’t mind the loosing, just the lies. And they have gotten worse and I thought maybe they would have stopped. Just play the best 9 on each day given the 50 players or so we have to choose from. But we don’t and we lie about it. Drives me nuts. Just don’t say anything is all I am saying. Torre is basically saying, I am playing Pierre (it better be over Jones or the real snappage will begin) and I am not batting him 9th so where else is he suppossed to hit and add value?

lol Eric. We sorta disagree though…I am going with #4

    4 – Professional liars.
They lie for a purpose. Professional liars have thought their lies through and know exactly what they’re going to say and when. Because the lie has been practiced so often, it will not be revealed by the liar’s voice, body language or appearance. The only way to catch professional liars is by checking their statements against an independent source (stats).

  174. enchantedbeaver

Nothing that’s JoJo’s done from the beginning of spring training has made any sense, and I don’t know what he’s waiting for Buttermilk and Trigger to do – they both belong at the glue factory.

  175. tradejuanpypaperbag

Wally – you are good young man for listening to your father. Not many young men are like that these days. I wish your father could talk to Mr. Torre, and maybe, just maybe he would listen and do the right thing in playing the best players.

  176. scott_in_arcadia

jungar, you are so right. The problem is the lying and the BS, not the losing. I’m willing to take some growing pain lumps for my team if they’re serious about long term success doing it the right way. But outright lying to everybody is just too much. What’s next? Is Torre going to tell us that elephants are faster than cheetahs? Joe, why don’t you take that spark plug and shove it up yours.

  177. tradejuanpypaperbag

LMAO!!!!!! sorry, but this topic deserves the “A” in there because it fits the description of Joe right now.

  178. tradejuanpypaperbag

Hey, jhall!! Did you know Ohio State is one of the top three teams they are picking to win the BCS Championship this year – Your team is up there with USC and Georgia.

  179. cpompe1

Good morning ITD boys and girls,
I’m trying to catch up on some comments that I had to respond back:

“blechhhhhhhh, you girls are killing me!!!” By jnv828@sbcglobal.net
What can we say jnv – we’re excited, can’t you tell!!! 🙂

“I will be dnelly’s ans cpompe’s daughter for the day :)” By amymwalton@hotmail.com
Amy – I don’t have a daughter of my own; you can be my daughter any day!!! 🙂

”To Andruw, a ball on a tee is pretty much unhittable. ‘It was just sitting there, taunting me to hit it, but all the while it knew I couldn’t. It was very unnerving. Baseballs are evil.’” By enchantedsunset@hotmail.com
    hilarious enchanted!!! 🙂

Northstateblues – Your brother’s and cousin’s story about Lasorda is mind-boggling! A stadium worker asking Tommy Lasorda for his ID??? If anyone would get a pass in Dodger Stadium – it would have to be Tommy Lasorda! That is something else!

  180. jhallwally

Yeah Nelly, could come down to the early matchup between USC and OSU in Sept. Should be very exciting.

  181. tradejuanpypaperbag

Good Morning CP!! Are you still excited or what?!! I can’t stop thinking about it!! We are just reminding jnv of his little girl, and that’s okay. I will be 8 for the day if that’s what it takes to meet Andre. lol!!!

  182. cpompe1

Good morning dnel! Yes, I’m still excited! I won’t mind being 8 for the day! Check out my next post!!! 🙂

  183. dodgrdad14

I sent Kevin Baxter an e-mail regarding his article, here it is in full and afterwards I will send you his response…..

    Kevin,
Did someone make you write this garbage? Because the Dodgers are a game
out of first place because Slappy Mcpopup (Pierre) has been on the DL.
The Dodgers have a winning record with Pierre out of the line up and a
LOSING record with him!! He is not a leadoff hitter he is a pinch
runner making 9 million a year.
I hope you got paid a lot of money to write this article because you
have seriously eroded any credit you had as a sports writer.
    Jim
    Roseville, Ca.
P.S. If you need stats I am sure I can point you in the right
    direction.

  184. enchantedbeaver

With Buttermilk (Dale’s horse) and Trigger in the line-up everyday down the stretch, naturally we’ll fold just like last year. You know though that JoJo will blame our demise on the young guns not pulling their weight and buckling under the pressure. What they’ll say is so predictable…

Why do these men need to find a scapegoat in the kids? The kids aren’t perfect, but the tripe spewed out by Ned and especially JoJo that absurdly favors the worthless vets is enough to make you scream. Whether you look at stats only or just watch the players and ignore the stats, how can you not come to the same conclusion that the vets are pathetic?

  185. cpompe1

Original: Styx – Blue Collar Man

    JOE’S BLUE COLLAR MAN

  186. dodgrdad14

And here is the morons response:

Thanks for the help but when joe torre says juan pierre is his
sparkplug and leadoff hitter I think I’ll just go with that

  187. tradejuanpypaperbag

jhall ~ I didn’t realize they were playing each other during the regualar season. You are right! That should be interesting, then. They actually have as one of the lines here at the MGM, you can bet that one of the three (USC, Ohio State and Georgia) will win the BCS Championship over any other team. Very intriguing!!

  188. tradejuanpypaperbag

    WOW!!!!! FANTASTIC CP!!!!!!!! FABULOUS!!!!!!!!
    .
That you can get signed. I will bring mine- you bring yours!!

  189. cpompe1

dnel – I plan to bring this one to get signed!!! I want to see if I can print this on a paper that has the LA logo all around it. That’s my next project! If I can’t, I’ll figure something else out!

    enchanted – it’s a little early for dinner, don’t ya think? 🙂

  190. enchantedbeaver

jnv – its obvious that virtually all of the “credible” sportwriters that cover the Dodgers are Torre lemmings that’ll follow their pied piper off the cliff he’s leading us to.

In fact, there’s a word for people that follow false prophets, blindly accepting whatever they say – cultists. And it seems that there are a great many that believe Joe Torre is a baseball God and are willing to accept his “wisdom.”

  191. dodgereric

jnv, are you serious? That REALLY was a response from someone who is paid to write about sports? If so, it speaks VOLUMES as to why Torre gets away with the tripe he feeds to these writers. And it is UNACCEPTABLE™!

  192. jhallwally

    Super CP!!!!
Good stuff JNV. Alot of clueless people out there evidently.
And Beav, it is a load of crap!!

  193. tradejuanpypaperbag

CP – sounds like a plan – I will work on something, too. I have to go. We are going to see “Dark Knight” I will catch up to you later.
    .
Ward, Wally and Beav – have fun this afternoon. Mom will be back in a later! Behave!! 🙂
    .
    Blog you later ITDers!!!

  194. enchantedbeaver

    It’s 6:00 somewhere CP !! 🙂

Which means I’d better start catchin’ up on my drinkin’ – I’ve already missed an hour of that.

  195. tradejuanpypaperbag

totally messed that up boys!! sorry, but you know what I meant. Meant to say be back later this afternoon. lol!!! I know that w

  196. scott_in_arcadia

jnv, WOW! What a total jerk Kevin Baxter is! Not to mention a brainless moron, but we all knew that already from reading his tripe all year. Well, Joe Freaking Torre said it so out that in your pipe and smoke it, huh?

    Thanks, Jim for the effort!

  197. scott_in_arcadia

This whole thing reminds me of Charlton Heston and PLanet of the Apes. Speaking of what Joe did to Kevin Baxter:

“You cut up is brain you bloody baboon!”

  198. cpompe1

    have fun dnel!

enchanted – It’s 6:00 PM in the Azores Islands. They are a chain of islands in the Atlantic Ocean, about 950 miles from Lisbon and about 2,400 miles from the east coast of North America. Better hurry up with that drinking!!! Just don’t try to drive though!!! 🙂

  199. leekfink

jnv–AMAZING! Apparently, this “reporter’s” idea of journalisim is transcribing shorthand. Sorry, folks, we don’t need a reporter for that, just a tape recorder and “Dragon Naturally Speaking.”

  200. cpompe1

thx for the kudos jhall! I had fun with this song! I’ve had Styx on my mind for a while now, but I didn’t know what song and how I should parody it! But when dnel and I started talking about seeing Andre next weekend, that started me going. I just knew that if I was going to parody a song for Andre, it would have to be positive! And this song just cried out to me!!! 🙂

  201. dodgrdad14

I figured you would all appreciate that tripe. I for one am done reading the LA Times writters except maybe TJ Simers. Maybe I should send him the response and see what he says.

  202. leekfink

Jungar and Dodgereric–I think you guys left out another type of liar:
    .
    5. The delusional psychotic.
    .
This person constantly lies, and it is impossible to tell that he is lying because he has so lost his grip on reality that he thinks what he is saying is true.
    .
Separately, here’s another point–I “know how to lead off.” You take pitches, work the count, foul off balls on the corner, and get on base. And, when you get on base, you annoy the pitcher and hopefully steal.
    .
But that does not mean that I should be leading off for the Dodgers, because I can’t do any of that stuff.
    .
    Same with Pierre.
    .
(Actually, I never think Pierre works the count enough, and since he has significant ability–maybe not enough to be an everyday major leaguer, but certainly WAY more than me–I wonder if he really knows how to lead off.)

  203. leekfink

Scott and Jungar–I hear you. This is my 27th season as a Dodger fan (I got Garvey’s last year, and he has ever since been my favorite player, and I became overly-inclined to First Basemen, explaining my support for Karros and Loney), and as a kid, I really thought that we would just regularly win pennants and world championships. So I understand the frustration.
    .
I agree that the Angels are doing better with the Dodger way than the Dodgers are, but I have hope that it will turn (things are better now than 5 years ago).
    .
And, if you ever need a reason to keep being a Dodger fan, there are still two key words to remember:
    .
    Vin Scully.

  204. dodgrdad14

    It gets better: I responded to him with this;

Thanks for the clarification, at least now I know I will skip any
article you write since you don’t care to write the truth.

    and he sent this reply:

Yeah that joe torre sucks. I bet you could do better

I can’t believe this is actually Kevin Baxter replying!!!

  205. cpompe1

scott – you have some good ideas! Actually, I owe you a debt of gratitude for my very first song: Juan Pierre Got Run Over by a Reindeer! That was your idea first!

  206. leekfink

Guys–you have to check out Dodger Thoughts. Jon Weisman rips Baxter’s article apart–and he ususally does not delve into press criticism.
    .
JNV, you should post your communications with that guy, or send them to Jon Weisman.

  207. dodgrdad14

    I sent this reply:

Just look at his track record in the National League without the Yankees extreme payroll and you will see that you are right, he does suck. If this is really you (Kevin Baxter) than it is a shame that you call yourself a journalist. Journalists are supposed to have integrety and report the truth and not what is fed to them by someone else. You are supposed to check FACTS and not be a human tape recorder for someone elses PR machine. If it’s broke it needs to be fixed!!!

Sorry for the continuing updates I will stop!! LOL

  208. cpompe1

wow jnv – Baxter actually wrote that??? It just makes you wonder where sportswriters’ allegiances are to???

  209. scott_in_arcadia

cpompe, you’re welcome, but you have done a great job with the lyrcis!

Lee, I think the only reason I’m a fan at all is because of Vinny. Same goes for the Lakers. Since Chick’s untimely death, it’s just not the same, you know? The LA Kings stink so bad that even Bob Miller can’t help them anymore.

Jim, Who is this Kevin Baxter anyway? Some 13 year old kid? Thanks for trying and I think forwarding your emails to Simers is a good idea.

  210. dodgrdad14

Thanks Scott, and he might be a 13 year old who knows. He definately isn’t a sports journalist.

And the ONLY reason I am still a Dodger fan is:

    1. The young kids

    2. Mr. Vin Scully

  212. aeversw

The Baxter article was pathetic. The Dodgers probably have some of the worst writers in the country covering them. Not based on their writing skills but based on their baseball knowledge.

I am not surprised Baxter has Torre’s back. Half the sports writers in LA probably get giant hard ons when Torre’s name is even mentioned. It was a PR move by the Dodgers hiring Torre and looks like the press has been sucked into the Dodgers twisted world.

If you think Juan Pierre is a good leadoff hitter your baseball IQ should be and is going to be challenged. The evidence is overwhelming! Batting at the top of the lineup so much you think Juan Pierre would lead the team in number of times on base but he’s not even in the top 5.

We all have to remember what team we are rooting for. It is the Dodgers after all. They haven’t dont anything right in 21 years! What makes you think they will start making the right moves now.

  213. dodgereric

Kevin Baxter…….Kevin Baxter………what is it about that name that …………YEAH!!! I GOT IT!!! Remember this?

    March 25, 2008 |

“But Ethier, 25, has more power, a better arm and will drive in more runs, tools that would make him more valuable off the bench.”

    NOW I UNDERSTAND!!!

    http://mikesciosciastragicillness.com/2008/03/25/random-stupid-people-and-stupid-quotes-kevin-baxter/

I searched the Times’ archives and the date rings true. You have to pay for the entire article. Also, over on Dodger Thoughts, someone mentioned that he worked for the Miami Herald when Pierre was playing for Florida.

    So……….we must remember this……….

    Kevin Baxter = complete moron

  214. scott_in_arcadia

    Kevin Baxter = complete moron
    Joe Torre = complete moron
    Ned Colletti = complete moron

Logan White = great judge of talent and patient
Kim Ng = shrewd negotiator and smart
Vin Scully = best announcer of all time

  215. scott_in_arcadia

hey eric, Baxter is bad enough, but at least we can write him off as a complete moron in the truest sense of the word. I just can’t deal with the comments by Torre. He’s really showing us what an incompetent old fool he really is.

  216. porklinks

In search of something good, instead of bad, to discuss? There is this article from Diamond Leung – the best Dodgers’ beat writer, as the best baseball beat writer name of all-time! – today on Matt Kemp. (Hmmm, after an off-day, the Times feature article is on Pierre, the Press-Enterprise on Kemp.)
    http://www.pe.com/sports/breakout/stories/PE_Sports_Local_S_dodgers_25.47b457a.html
    .
“In his first full season with the Dodgers, Kemp is tied for first on the team in home runs (11), second in hits (106), RBI (55) and steals (22), and tied for second in runs (52) and doubles (24) while hitting in seven different spots in the lineup.”
    .
“In other words, the 6-foot-2, 230-pound former basketball player nicknamed “Bison” has got talent. ”
    .
    BISON POWER!!!!!!

  217. boblee14@yahoo.com

What a crock. Who’s Baxter’s source, Pierre’s mama? Putting Pierre back in the lineup means I have to watch those pop fly outs again instead of seeing line drives or HR’S by Kemp or Ethier. Fire Torre as he has no idea how to win in the National league without many highly priced superstars.

  218. porklinks

As previously mentioned by someone else earlier, Jon Weisman of Dodger Thoughts already dissected Baxter’s tripe completely, but one simple counterpoint to Baxter is this. He says the Dodgers BA went down a little with Pierre out. Well, duh, that coincided with the (rushed) return of Andruw Jones! It’s all about Jones’ sucking, not anything Pierre brings to the table.
    http://dodgerthoughts.baseballtoaster.com/archives/1067478.html

  219. ericaadriane@gmail.com

    HI EVERYONE!
Do you think we can actually pull a win out of our rears against the Nationals?!

Any new trade rumors. I only want to hear them if they involve Sizemore.

  220. dodgrdad14

    Erica,
I would say yes we will sweep the Nationals but we have old man JOJO as our manager and I am sure he will find a way to lose the game for us.

  221. scott_in_arcadia

Lefty pitching for the Nats. That means Ethier will sit in favor of Jones/Pierre. Apparently, only Juan Pierre can hit left handers, but Ethier and DeWitt can’t.

    Lineup guess:

    pierre lf
    Nomar ss
    Martin c
    Kent 2b
    Loney 1b
    Kemp rf
    Jones cf
    LaRoche 3b
    Bills P

  222. dodgrdad14

Lets hope not Scott because that would be a losing lineup. Nomar needs to stay around the 6-8 hole and someone needs to fall back onto Pierre’s knee (sorry Amy) and Jones needs to find an all you can eat buffet. Then that would be a great line up.

  223. northstateblues

    Hey everyone.

I’m trying to stay positive. I like Juan Pierre. I’ve been pulling for the guy ever since he came over. Unfortunately, his results haven’t met expectations to date ($45 million expectations at that). I have always believed he is a necessary cog if this team is going to become contenders.

That being said, Kemp adds some much-needed oomph at leadoff, and I can’t see how Joe Schultz, let alone Joe Torre, could mess with what works, especially seeing as how we’re only one game out. Maybe the sub-par record of the NL West acts as some kinda safety net for Torre to keep running Pierre out there until he produces resuts.

Those two have rings, have won before, and obviously know a hell of a lot more about winning championships than most of us. But I hope that Joe will realize he has a leadoff man with speed AND pop right now, and it’s been working pretty well for the team right now, a lot better than it was a month or two ago.

We NEED Pierre’s speed. We NEED Pierre’s drive. Not at the expense of the team’s results, though.

But, in the end, the game hasn’t been played yet. I’ll save the worrying for when we’re in trouble instead of anticipating it. And I’ll keep the oven warm in case I need to throw in some good ol’ Crow Pie. That stuff really is tasty, hopefully we’ll all see soon enough.

  224. dodger 32

People in NY didn’t call Torre Cluless Joe for no reason. The NY fand hated Torre at the end, and couldn’t wait for him to be gone, much like Dodger fans now. Also this team has no true #1 starter (Maybe Bills), and no true HR bat in the middle of the order, in short this team is a mess, But at least Pierre knows how to lead off. What a croc that is. Just like their GM & manager. And Frank wonders why attendence is down.

  225. scott_in_arcadia

northstate, You are entitled to your opinion. I have no problem with Pierre being an extra OF/pinch runner/pinch hitter at about 500k a year. And if that were the case, he’d be a nice guy to have in the dugout with a good work ethic. But anything different than that and I’m afraid the joke’s on us.

  226. dodgrdad14

Northstate and Scott, It’s not Pierres money that is the problem, it is the fact that he thinks he should be the starter and leading off (JOJO feels the same way). I don’t care if he makes 100 million a year as long as he is played at what he is good at, pinch running or spelling Kemp/Ethier. The money part is Franks problem, I don’t care about the price of games because I won’t go back there until they play the best players and I am not going to waste $500 – $800 to go see Slappy McPopup lead off. (I live a ways away which is why it costs so much). I have better things to do with my money. I haven’t even bought any Dodger gear this year because I don’t want to put any money into Franks greed machince until he shows me (by firing Colitus) that he really wants the best possible team on the field, I don’t care if they make $5.00 a year or 500 million a year.
Sorry I don’t know where that came from!!!! LOL But I think you get the point……

    PLAY THE KIDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    FIRE NED
FIRE THE GUY HIRED BY NED

  227. scott_in_arcadia

I agree, Jim. If I would have known what a tool Joe Torre really was, I would have jumped ship in March. His unconditional love for Pierre is just beyond comprehension.

  228. enchantedbeaver

I’ve got no problem with JP playing over The Cow (without question the worst excuse of a ballplayer I’ve ever seen don a uniform), but JP over Ethier or Kemp and somebody’s gonna get hurt.

  229. kpookiemon

That Pierre is looked upon as a savior for this team speaks volumes about this team…or perhaps more acurately, speaks volumes about Torre and Colletti.

  230. dodgereric

    2007 – Julio Lugo
    2006 – Jeff Weaver
    2005 – Timo Perez
    2004 – Mike Timlin
    2003 – Armando Almanza
    2002 – Brad Fullmer
    2001 – Brian Anderson
    2000 – Scott Brosius
    1999 – Ramiro Mendoza
    1998 – Chad Curtis
    1997 – Pat Rapp

Who are all these guys? They received all World Series rings that year. Big deal. I’m not all that familiar with a lot of them, but they all had significant appearances with their teams. Any of them strike you as winners?

  231. dodgrdad14

I actually like Jones over Pierre only because with Jones there is that slight glimmer of hope that he might pull out of it. With Pierre he is what he is, and I am sure he is a nice guy and I don’t want anyone to think I am saying anything differently just I don’t like him on the team.

  232. dodgrdad14

I agree with you Scott, I wish I would have known also. It would have saved a lot of agony!!! LOL

Good stuff Eric!!! And don’t the bat boys get a ring also??? LOL maybe they could come in and show some veteran leadership!!!

  233. scott_in_arcadia

How about Colletti wearing his stupid 2nd place Giants ring to Vero his first year here? What a jerk! Then bringing in that loser Stan Conte to compound things.

  234. perumike

I certainly hope Pierre is not leading off tonight! But as long as Kemp and Ethier are in there, I’ll be happy. Our Cow from Curacao needs some rest. I just found out I got tickets for tonight’s game, so I hope I get to see a good Billz and get me a bobblehead! Last time out to the stadium Kuroda-san had his three hitter, so let’s hope we have another gem!

  235. enchantedbeaver

    Thanks Alex!

So its the old oblique strain that curiously befalls DY. Does anbody find a corelation between the inability of the FO to (A) make a final decision on a player, and (B) make a trade, and the use of the DL as a holding tank?

Its almost like they stock the DL so that they don’t have to make a trade or acquire another useless PVL from another organization – they can just pull one off their own shelf.

  236. dodgrdad14

Enchanted, This organization is so far beyond repair it’s not even funny. For the rest of the year instead of watching the games and hoping to win, lets watch the games and hope for a Dodger loss, this way when the season is over and they are 10-15 games under .500 Jamie McCourt will get rid of JOJO the clown, Colitus and Dr. Heckyl. I bet she has the brass ones to make a decision since her husband doesn’t seem to.

  237. leekfink

Great article by Diamund Leung about Matt Kemp. Though, apparently he was kidding around about getting pumped up with Jeff Kent. Which is funny, but too bad.
    .
Dodger Thoughts and Tony Jackson are reporting that Pierre is being activated and Delwyn Young is going on the DL with an oblique strain–seems like a convenient–or ptentially inconvenient–injury. No lineups when I checked, but it seems inevitable that Pierre will be leading off again. Not good. We’ll see if it’s worse with who of the 4 OFers is not playing.
