Sorry, I just wanted to be first, but yarrum beat me. I was just surprised to se no comments yet . . . and no Andruw in the line-up. Have to look around for an explanation. But no complaints.
    .
Great win last night. And I have to say, I am thrilled with how Nomar is doing. I did not think his body had it in him, and I recognize he could break down, but I would love to see him keep going.

    Reposted from the last thread:

Thanks e and nelly, it’s been quite the experience for me to having been involved in Scouting for the past 7 years. We all get jaded the way the media portrays things nowadays. It’s always death and destruction that leads the news, isn’t it?

I have to say that I’ve been around. I’m 55, worked construction for 32 years. Worked 2 jobs for 2 years so we could afford to have that 16-year-old you see in those pics. I’ve gone to church my whole life. I’ve been very involved in a lot of things, school boards, church, little league baseball coaching, service organizations, etc. If I was to list the best 15 humans I’ve met, I think 10 of them would be parents in our troop. And they’re all raising kids. There is hope for the future, you just can’t watch TV to get an idea of where the good ones are.

  3. tradejuanpypaperbag

No complaints here with this lineup 🙂
    .
    GO DODGER BLUE!!!!
    .
Leefink – if Jeff can get on track with Nomar, then maybe Joe will keep those two in and not be so concerned about Pierre and Jones in the outfield, or at least to the point where they both have to be in there everyday. However, Jones going back on the DL would be best for all involved, including him. I think once JP is back, he will take over his lead off spot again.

What on God’s green earth needs to happen for Andy LaRoche to get a couple of starts? Why is he even on the roster…

  5. dodgereric

I’m with you on that, brandon. I think it was enchanted who said that Ned is more likely to get stuck with magic beans than any player worth having. His record does not inspire confidence, to put it mildly.

  6. tradejuanpypaperbag

So very true eric!! Even from a school teacher’s perspective, there are some very good kids out there, and the rest truly want to be. It’s getting to those kids “who want to be good” and finding out what makes them shine. Once you find what makes kids shine, they will always do what’s right in order to please those that respect them. Obviously you have parents and adults around these boys who are very well respected because it’s clear by young boys’ actions that they truly respect you and the parents/adults you have mentioned.

The Dodger lineup looks better & better everyday.
I’ve been either missing entire games like I think I will tonight due to the early start or I’ve been getting home by the late innings.
I’ve been at Our Lady of Mount Carmel & San Paolino feast, which comes around my way every year for about 10 to 12 days. It always includes the All-Star break.
I should miss most of tomorrow’s game which has a 4:05 ET starting time because I never miss the lifting of the “Giglio”, which takes place on Sundays.
    Sunday night the feast ends.
On Wednesday I’m scheduled to have surgery for an infection I got after a hernia operation I had a few years ago.
If all goes well I’ll be back in a couple of days.
In the meanwhile I’m just hoping to see the DODGERS move into and stay IN FIRST PLACE.

  8. blbleeder

Let’s see what kind of game Bills pitches tonight IF he pitches the way he is capable of doing, we’ll be in 1st place no problem…

We’ve got the right man for the job tonight.

  9. cpompe1

hey eric – I finally got to see the pics; they are terrific! You are certainly raising a fine boy – you’ve got to be proud of him!

  10. leekfink

OK–Andruw has the flu. Or is that code for “strikeout-itis”?
    .
Nelly, I agree, if Kent and Nomar get going, it might give Joe a little confidence, and mostly, it’s production in two sports where we really need proven veterans to produce.
    .
But, I hope that Joe sees what is obvious–we don’t need Pierre leading off, and we do need Matt Kemp hitting early in the line-up.

  11. cpompe1

Hey there dnel – Yeah, I was kinda fast earlier. Like I said, I was reading the posts from last night and this morning (that’s when I saw what the last thread was all about). I didn’t have much time as I went to meet my husband for lunch. That’s why I wanted to make sure that I made my comment (rather late; hope it wasn’t too late) before I had to go.

I REALLY am so glad to see our boys hitting the ball so well!!! And I’m sure everyone agrees that just a couple of months ago, if we got down 6 – 3 that we wouldn’t have seen a comeback like last night’s game!!! And we came back several times at that!!! I just loved last night’s game. And Billz is pitching tonight so I do see the Dodgers taking sole possession of first place after tonight and after seeing tonight’s lineup!!!

  12. leekfink

pierreseastmeetswest–I hope you are OK. You seem to be having quite a time at the feats, and seem pretty calm about your surgery Wednesday, but I wish you the best. Will you be in the hospital for long?

  13. cpompe1

BTW, I’ve gotta ask anyone who wants to answer. I know last night JoeyP was spewing off last night. And y’all are right; his language is just atrocious. And again I didn’t see what happened last weekend, but judging by what I read, last night wasn’t all that different for him. What I wanted to ask is this: I thought JoeyP was “banned” from this ITD blog – if that’s the case, then why was he able to post last night? Yeah, I saw a bunch of them were repeats over and over and over again, but in the blogging world, how come JoeyP was able to post???

  14. lagirl27

Fantastic line up tonight. Lets go an win a ballgame!!!
    .
I am out for the rest of the night. Driving up to the hometown to a bunch a Angel Fans, at least their game will be over once ours comes on.
    .
Have a pleasant evening everyone. When i log on tomorrow lets hope our winning streak will improve to 3. LETS GO Boys!!!
    .
    Be Safe everyone 🙂

  15. tradejuanpypaperbag

CP – I can’t wait to see tonight’s game. Let’s hope Billz comes with all he’s got and combined with the hitting we saw last night – boy! – There will be no stopping them.
    .
My husband didn’t take me out to lunch, but I made him a nice lunch. It’s the least I can do considering I have been talking to these boys most of the day. LOL!! However, my husband does have his own blogging days, but it’s a coach’s blog about baseball and football – boring compared to this one. Well, there aren’t many that compete with this one in terms of humor and craziness at times.

  16. northstateblues

dodgereric, I’ve read your blog, and as a grandson of veterans and with uncles, cousins and friends having served overseas, I’m very proud of the project your son and you undertook. And it must’ve been tough carrying the flagpole for 2 miles, a great dedication to our men and women who’ve sacrificed their time and their lives ensuring our American freedoms. Thank you.

  17. cpompe1

Yeah dnel, this blog does get crazy many times!!! That is why I like it so much – a lot of fun!!! No, my husband’s a mailman and works most Saturdays so we’ve been meeting for lunch for a while…

  18. enchantedbeaver

Have fun at the feast pierresEW, and hurry back – we’ll be thinking of you and trying to hold the fort.

  19. tradejuanpypaperbag

That’s a good thing CP – During the school year, my husband meets me for lunch on Mondays (his store is closed on Mondays) at a place near my school. He doesn’t usually work on Saturdays – my mom works there for him so we can do things with the kids, but today was one of those lazy days, with some cleaning involved.

  20. enchantedbeaver

    Pretty cool north!!

CP – I think all of these blogs being free pretty well accept any email address you want to use, so unless there’s a way of identifying the computer the post is generated from, I’m fairly sure you can just keep changing emails and get back on.

  21. tradejuanpypaperbag

Northstateblues – totally awesome!!!! I guess I should have gotten that clue – went right over my head the other night. That’s clever!!! Wow!!!!! Very nice – you need to find a way to get that to him. That is so cool!!!!

  22. dodgereric

pierre, I’ll keep you in my thoughts and prayers this week. Best of luck!

cp, thanks for your thoughts. And let’s hope that you-know-who has made his last appearance on this blog.

lee, the only bad thing about Nomar and Kent producing is that it will keep Joe shovelling Andruw and Pierre and Sweeney and Proctor on us due to his “faith” in the vets.

north, you are welcome. But it was 1/2 mile, not 2. If it was 2, I never would have made it. If it was ONE, I never would have made it. That thing was HEAVY after 1/2!

  23. enchantedbeaver

Any speculation that sometime tonight or tomorrow Druw goes back on the DL? Or does he just have thw flu until we get to Colorado?

  24. tradejuanpypaperbag

Maybe Andruw has been hanging out with the gnats . 3 of their players did not play last night ethier (either) due to flu -like symptoms, plus Lincecum for the ASG. If he really does have the flu – keep him away from the boys, please!! If you see him in the clubhouse tonight, my guess is he doesn’t have the flu – all the gnat players were sent home.

  25. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Very good spot Nelly… if he’s got the “flu” and he’s in the dugout… it’s a crock… and he’s just being benched without being “benched”.

  26. enchantedbeaver

Andruw deserves a good tongue lashing by management. They’ve tried everything else, maybe that would stir him from his batting malaise.

  27. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

I know what Andruw needs!!! He needs to be left in a room alone with the JOKER!!! AWESOME MOVIE!!!

  28. boblee14@yahoo.com

Evening everyone, great line-up tonight. Now lets see this group score a bunch of runs for Bills and go into first place. Andruw needs a good swift kick to get him motivated…

  29. dodgerzona

    Hi All,
    New to this blog

Been a Dodger fan for 33 yrs
Live in Az…Glad to see jones not in lineup tonight

  30. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Welcome dodgerblueaz…. I’ve noticed there are a lot of Dodger fans in Arizona… Will make for a fun spring training next season too…

Come on Blue!! Big win tonight!!!

  31. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

I’m sitting at work, in a hotel in Las Vegas… Staring at showgirls in sequin thongs and feathery head dresses… talking to you guys and watching the Dodgers online…. damn it’s a fine night so far… let’s make it a great one!!

  32. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Not exactly the start we had last night…. This game has pitchers duel written all over it!

  33. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Yeah enchanted… the crazy part is that I’m getting paid for this!! Other than Kemp, everyone else so far seems to be having good at bats at least.

  34. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

I think I’d send Russel here… runs are going to be at a premium tonight… and we need to score as many as we can

  35. tradejuanpypaperbag

    LMKO!!! enchanted!!!!!
    .
    welcome dodgerblueaz!
    .
thanks brandon for the visual!! 🙂
    .
Matt not good, Andre – almost got one- damn!, Russell -good

  36. lbirken@aol.com

Pierre, please let me add my best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Vinny said at the beginning of the broadcast that A. Jones went to Joe and said he wanted to play but Joe said no.

  37. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

I know Nelly… but the girls from the show have taken off… so, now I just get to people watch…. which can be a lot of fun too…. I really hope we get good Billz tonight…. PLEASE!!

  38. rodmky@optusnet.com.au

G’Day from Down Under – Guess we didn’t get the good Bills tonight – The one constant thing about this team of ours is their inconsistency.

  39. tradejuanpypaperbag

lbirken – if Andruw is at the game, then he doesn’t have the flu. Why would you have him around the rest of the players if he is sick? That would be stupid.

  40. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Damnit!! We can’t afford to be playing catch up all the time!! I guess games like this will test this new and improved offense…. Why is it that we can not get our offense and defense on the same page this year!?!?!? It’s always one or the other!!!! errrr!!

  41. tradejuanpypaperbag

It’s only two runs. Hopefully Billz settles down, and doesn’t become bad, bad chad. Come on Dodgers!!!

  42. enchantedbeaver

That’s what happens when you fly too close to the sun brandon – showgirls, blog, and a win too???

  43. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

The way our offense is going so far and with a 2 run lead Haren could dominate tonight.

  44. lbirken@aol.com

When Andruw left the game last night Vinny said it was because of “flu like symptons”. Obviously that is what the club told the press box. I doubt he really has the flu. Vinny just mentioned it again and the camera shows Druw in the dugout. Whatever he has, he should not be in the lineup anyway.

  45. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

hahaha!! I know enchanted!! Well, at least if we’re unable to come back at least we’re only a game back, and still in it, unlike last night.

  46. enchantedbeaver

Blake’s a great kid and has a future, but c’mon Joe, let LaRoche have a shot. DeWitt hasn’t been hitting for nearly 2 months now.

  47. jungar@wsgcorp.com

Out of 100 people how many people think that if Jones was crushing the ball his flu would go away?

13 more days till I can breath again…

  48. redfox@q.com

Latest on Andruw – “food poisoning”

“Saturday night’s lineup did not include Andruw Jones, who left midway through Friday night’s game with what he believes was food poisoning. Torre said Jones asked to start Saturday night, but the manager told him he’d rather save him for later in the game than remove him early. Delwyn Young started in left field, with Matt Kemp starting in center.”

  49. rodmky@optusnet.com.au

Good test for us tonight .. Haren is a quality pitcher and if we’re to win this division we HAVE to beat pitchers of his ilk. Webb tomorrow night is in the same group. If we can’t produce then we’ll just be cheering the guys to get and stay above .500. D-Backs bullpen is not the best and this may be our best chance.

  50. enchantedbeaver

Can’t wait for Joe to insert Druw in as a PH with RISP so he can strikeout. In fact, can’t we activate Sweeney too?

  51. tradejuanpypaperbag

Then Conte is an idiot (I know we already know that) because why would you expose a whole team to somebody with the flu. He shouldn’t be in the dugout if he has the flu.

  52. boblee14@yahoo.com

It wasn’t food poisoning, it was actually tennis elbow for wear and tear last nite at the food court buffet

  53. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Well, what lbirken just said confirms that he does NOT have the flu!! They would never have a player with a contagious ailment in the dugout!

Damnit!!! We don’t have good Billz tonight…. What’s with the really crappy pitching 2 nights in a row from our starters!?!? We seriously cannot afford to have our starters stink the place up!!!!

  54. tradejuanpypaperbag

food poisoning? He still wouldn’t be there. He certainly wouldn’t be strong enough to play. Not that he has shown any signs of strength yet. It’s hard to show strength when you are striking out all the time.

  55. redfox@q.com

“Shortstop options limited for Dodgers. GM Colletti instead could look for offensive third baseman. Another option Colletti said he’s considered is to add an offensive third baseman, a position that’s been handled most of the year by Blake DeWitt, backed up lately by fellow rookie Andy LaRoche.”

They have yet to give LaRoche a real opportunity to show his stuff and DeWitt saved the game last night, but Colletti is looking to add a third baseman?? Why can’t the Dodgers stick with what they have and give them a fair shot before running off for more vets that will block their young talent. Personally I think that LaRoche and DeWitt can handle 3B and 2B if given an adequate chance and with some decent coaching.

  56. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

The one thing we do have going for us so far is that Haren has thrown 40 pitches through 2 innings… we really need to have good ab’s against him to have a chance tonight

  57. bluecrewgirl

I agree, DNelly, I’ve had food poisoning before and I seriously doubt he would be up to playing if that’s what he had.

  58. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

C’mon Billz get this guy and get out of this thing!!! 2 runs we can come back from… but 4… I don’t know!!

  59. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Dangit! Billz is just flat out not throwing strikes!!!! 24 strikes and 18 balls so far…. not good formula for success.

  60. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

There we go!!!! Way to battle out of it!!! Let’s get this kid some damn runs!!!! Awesome… Maybe a momentum swing!?!?

  61. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

hahahaha…. Did you guys read that Loney said he was hungry last night… so he was excited that he hit the homer to win it…. Maybe we need to bypass the pregame meal for everyone… especially Jones!!

  62. boblee14@yahoo.com

All right, now lets get some runs and get back into this game. Maybe Bills needed that inning to get confidence back. He can do it. I would like to see us pound a good pitcher and knock him out of the game.

  63. rodmky@optusnet.com.au

As an old radio Jock, lbirken, I put most things into songs I played .. Tonight Mike and the Mechanics .. “All I need is a Miracle”.

  64. xuniquexjyx@hotmail.com

HAHA when they showed a replay of Billingsley running down the line, I could swear it looked like a potato =]

  65. lbirken@aol.com

Folks, does it really matter why Jones is not in the lineup? We should be happy Joe kept him out of the lineup and not worry about why.

  66. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Would it have been bad to ask Ethier to sacrifice in that situation, and then try to get both guys in with Martin? Atleast then that ground ball produces a run more than likely…. oh well….

  67. tradejuanpypaperbag

lbirken – LOL!! I know – who cares? We she should be thankful, but I am with enchanted that we might see before the end of the night as a PH. Time will tell, I guess LOL!!!

  68. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

We really need Billz to settle down and keep us in this game, at least give us a chance to come back

  69. lbirken@aol.com

Rod, thanks for the explanation. The D’Backs scored a bunch of runs early last night and then left a bunch of runners on base. Maybe that will happen again tonight. Of course, our boys will have to make some noise and score some runs.

  70. tradejuanpypaperbag

brandon – they had Ethier do that before and it worked. I thought they might try it with no outs.

  71. lbirken@aol.com

We can always hope the Dodgers won’t “need” Jones to pinch hit but my guess he is available.

  72. tradejuanpypaperbag

If the boys don’t get it done tonight, they can just use Andruw’s excuse. “We are suffering from flu-like symptoms” – lol!! I am sorry – this is too amusing for me, I guess. Seriously – it’s early and look what happened last night – it can happen.

  73. tradejuanpypaperbag

Your welcome Shad – sorry, I hadn’t read up that far, and yes, messagebear will post that list every once in a while if somebody is asking about a location of a some of the people on this board.
    .
dodgerblueaz – messagebear will probably add you to an ongoing list of where everyone on this board is from just to let you know. The current one is posted on the previous thread somewhere in the early morning hours – 6-7ish

  74. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

dnelly, i saw your post about the prospect camp. i will tell the guys to keep an eye out for your son. maybe i’ll go over to dedeaux to see him pitch, for my own scouting report. haha. from what i’ve gathered.. i’m going to guess that his name is michael nelson. a sophmore. is he a lefty or righty pitcher?

amy, i know you’ve been working on it! good luck! and when you get in with matty, you can help me become friends with russell.. haha

and for everyone who commented about the dark knight.. i agree 100%. it is one of the most amazing movies i have ever seen. and you will not regret going to see it if you haven’t already. heath ledger was amazing and he will win an oscar. i was lucky enough to see a special screening at 8pm on thursday, and when the movie was over, everyone there was just in AWE. so so so incredible.. i got chills at the very end of the movie..

  75. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

as far as this game.. bills has not looked good, but we’re still in this thing.. we need to scratch out a few runs against haren before this thing gets out of hand.. it feels like arizona could explode any minute now.. it’s nerve wracking.. come on blue!!

  76. enchantedbeaver

Billz is still in that “ace in training” stage. When he’s on he’s fantastic, but he’s still not consistant enough to be termed “ace.”

  77. boblee14@yahoo.com

Shad, sometimes I just can’t stay up late for an extra inning game. I get up the next morning and start MLB.TV and pick up the archive game before watching ESPN to get the scores.

  78. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

See… moving the runners over puts sooo much more pressure on the defense and the pitcher…. something we did NOT do last inning!!

  79. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Nice play by Nomar… If we can just stay in this thing….. I like our chances

  80. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Well, the play by Nomar saved a run at least…. This sure feels like one of those games where we score one run or less…. Keep that tally going all year long and it’s going to be a BIG number

  81. rodmky@optusnet.com.au

I might be wrong but I’m guessing either Laroche is in the process of being traded or that Joe has decided he is not worth a ML start because DeWitt although very good defensively is not helping out with the bat.

  82. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

I agree with whoever said it earlier… It really seems like Blake Dewitt has hit the wall… he has not been very good for quite a while now. I would really like to see us get a power hitting 3rd basemen, and allow Dewitt to continue to improve at AAA. Then next year come up and play 2nd possibly.

  83. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Haren is on his game tonight… a 3 run lead seems like it will for sure hold up.

  84. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

ooh a lefty. even better dnelly. how tall is the kid? and what’s his velocity like?

  85. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

I really think that our pitchers are just suffering from the All Star break lay off… They should be back in form soon…. I’m not able to watch the game…. does it look like we’re getting beaten by Haren or are our bats really crappy tonight?

  86. bluecrewgirl

I saw The Dark Knight today, Sara. It was really good. Heath Ledger was one of my favorite actors. Such a shame he’s gone. Christian Bale is my favorite of all the movie batmans.

This game is going by fast. We need to get it in gear.

  87. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

brandon, we’re getting beat by haren. he’s thrown some filthy pitches. we haven’t taken that many terrible at bats. at least, i don’t think we have..

  88. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

their outfield has also made some very nice catches on what could have been extra-base hits..

  89. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

bluecrewgirl. i agree. christian bale did very well. and it is a shame about heath ledger.. we will just have to remember that his last performance was his best..

  90. tradejuanpypaperbag

Sara – Michael is 14, 5’9″ and he throws low 80’s now, but training with weights and weighted baseballs to increase velocity. He also throws curve, 2 and 4 seam fastballs, change up and has split finger and a slider, but the last two he doesn’t throw much because of his age.

  91. tradejuanpypaperbag

I saw Haren pitch a lot last year watching the A’s, and he can bring it. It’s more of a pitching game than a hitting game and Billz just had a bad first inning. However, it’s only 3 runs, and it could be a lot worse considering how many the dbacks have left on base. So, there’s still hope.

  92. enchantedbeaver

This team is a ways away from being prime time, especially against good pitching, but I don’t see AZ being much better against the rest of the field than they have been. I can see however slight improvement by the D’s on the rest of the field.

  93. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

good nomar.. hopefully haren’s getting tired.. let’s get this thing started!

  94. tradejuanpypaperbag

I must say – I am very impressed with Nomar so far – he is definitely earning his vet status right now.

  95. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

michael sounds like a very promising prospect dnelly. being a lefty is such a bonus for pitchers. it automatically makes him more valuable. especially if he can get his velocity up to the 90s by his senior year. i’m guessing he’s still growing as well. hopefully it all works out for him and your family. i think prospect camp will be very good for him. i will definitely check in to see what the report is 🙂

  96. rodmky@optusnet.com.au

I agree Nelly but gee if we have to rely on Nomar as our power game after game then we won’t be much of a threat the remainder of the season.

  97. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

haren’s really pitching well.. down to the last 2 innings.. we gotta figure out how to get to him..

  98. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

I’ve never disliked Nomar… But tonight we ran up against a hot pitcher… and our guy was not terrible… but the offense did not have a chance against Haren tonight… Lets hope tomorrow we can have some fly balls against Webb.

  99. enchantedbeaver

I’m sorry people, but its time to let LaRoche have his shot at third. Other than a hot month, DeWitt’s not hitting much better than JP.

  100. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

sigh, i have a chance to take over first place again in my fantasy league, but my whole team is terrible right now. i have no shortstop. and the redsox don’t seem to want to beat the angels..

  101. jhallwally

Well, at least Billz kept us in the game. Haren is in the groove. Pretty much knew we had a tough row to hoe tonight against him. Still got a chance.

  102. tradejuanpypaperbag

I don’t know, but I guess he’s on top of the roof and can’t get down. Where have you been, dear? LMAO!!! oh, sorry LMKO!!!!

  103. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

okae, did they really just play hot stuff by donna summer as orlando hudson’s walk up song?

  104. jhallwally

Gee, what’s he doing up there. Been visiting my father this evening. Just got in. Need some runs. LMKO!!

  105. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

dnelly, he needs some kind of excuse today, because aside from his first at bat, he’s been swinging at bad pitches..

  106. rodmky@optusnet.com.au

On the DeWitt issue I think we got the answer yesterday when a lefty started for the D-Backs. LaRoche is simply not in Joe’s plans.

  107. tradejuanpypaperbag

sara – I know – it’s not like him – too much family time maybe, or he’s probably just having a bad day – it’s not like anybody else is hitting the ball ethier (either).

  108. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

d’backs are making plays all over the field today.. not a good sign..

  109. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Yeah, I agree with you guys… I was just watching the highlights online, and they seem to have robbed us a few times. So, it must have been Harens night tonight… we had some hard hit balls, just good d and pitching by them tonight…. Well, try again tomorrow… We really need to get over that hump!!!

  110. enchantedbeaver

D’s just haven’t had a look at this game since the top of the first. Not going to get any easier tomorrow against Webb either. But we do have some “soft” games coming up – Rox, Nats, Gnats – this is where the D’s have to make their move if they’re going to.

  111. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

some notes about injuries from the PE blog..

    – As expected, Chin-lung Hu has been activated from the disabled list at Class AAA Las Vegas after missing more than a month with blurred vision.

    – Mark Sweeney is expected to be activated from the disabled list in the next couple of days, with a pitcher being sent down.

    – Yhency Brazoban had his rehabilitation assignment stopped due to knee tenderness while he is recovering from shoulder inflammation.

    – Class AA Jacksonville pitcher Mario Alvarez is expected to miss the remainder of the season with an elbow injury.

  112. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

enchanted.. i agree.. cory wade has really done well.. called up from double-A too.. but he hasn’t looked over matched at all.. he’s been so valuable for us..

  113. rodmky@optusnet.com.au

Hate to rain on anyone’s parade but just read this from Tony Jackson …

“Meanwhile, Juan Pierre continues to improve. He did some running on the field early today, and Torre said he could be ready either to begin a rehab assignment or possibly even to rejoin the Dodgers as early as the next couple of weeks.”

Now that’s more scary than a Tasmanian Devil.

  114. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

dang.. nomar really hit that thing.. just like ethier’s in the first inning..

  115. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

oh geez.. druw’s got a helmet on.. torre wants to use him like he’s sweeney!

  116. tradejuanpypaperbag

Are you kidding me!! Don’t do it Joe – no Andruw!!
Hit the ball Blake – don’t leave it up to Andruw 🙂

  117. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

omg, i wish i had more confidence in this moment..

    AUGH DRUW!!! come on!!

  118. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

that’s the best you can do for this club right now..

    LET’S GO MATTY!!

  119. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

all that for matt kemp to take a poor at bat.. too anxious.. definitely a kid moment right there..

  120. tradejuanpypaperbag

Well they gave it their best shot. Haren had a great day pitching and some good defensive plays – not much you can do with some of what happened.

  121. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

lyon just walked jones and has thrown a lot of pitches. the other guys were ripping the ball.. patience matty, patience

  122. kpookiemon

Dodgers continue to follow their pattern of not beating good pitchers…or even scoring against them. A bad way to try to win a division…lot’s of good starters in the West, even if the teams are bad.

  123. enchantedbeaver

    Night Bob.

    Agreed pookie.

Matt should catch a little hell from Bowa and JoJo. Of course Joe will ask him what his plan was tomorrow rather than take him aside BEFORE the AB. Unfortunately he’ll catch it in the media too. This is where I’m hoping Mattingly can help these kids, especially Matty, and maybe we’ll see some marked improvement by late August.

  124. bluecrewgirl

They really need to win tomorrow. Ethier, Martin and Loney have all hit Webb well so far in their careers, so hopefuly they and the rest of the guys will rebound and score some runs and Lowe will bring his ground ball A game.

  125. tradejuanpypaperbag

jhall – Indians had a good day today – jhonny had a good day for me again, but my competition this week has Grady. Peralta had more points, though.

  126. tradejuanpypaperbag

enchanted – our Dodger announcers, during the game, said Mattingly worked with James and Andre today. They were working on getting my power up the middle. hmmm!!!

  127. bluecrewgirl

That explains why Andre was almost swinging out of his shoes on his middle 2 at bats, lol I was glad to see him get back to the good patient game plan he’s had lately on his last at bat. He hits for better power when he’s patient.

  128. tradejuanpypaperbag

Bluecrewgirl – I heard that after his 2nd strikeout, and the whole time I wondering, why are you working with him first? Andruw seems to be a little more important right now over everyone else. However, on his 2nd at bat, I thought, like brandon, they should have had him do a sacrafice bunt instead. There were no outs and he would have moved the two runners over putting them in place for Russell and Jeff.

  129. enchantedbeaver

I think we’re all starting to get our hopes and expectations up a little too high again. After all, these guys are still learning this season, which is what we wanted. Anything past a good season of growth is a bonus.

Guess I’d better hit it. I’ll wave to the boys as I go through Phoenix.

Keep up the fight Mom, Dad, and especially you Wally!!!

  130. tradejuanpypaperbag

Andre’s first at bat was good too, and then he just fell apart in the middle. You kind of wonder if someone talked to him about his “plan”. lol!! Maybe on the last at bat he just did what he knows best and batted like Andre knows how to bat.

  131. tradejuanpypaperbag

Good night enchanted/Beav – have a very safe trip, and try to have some fun in L.A. and yes, we know, we have to be patient too. This dynasty isn’t going to happen over night. 🙂

  132. bluecrewgirl

That’s a good point. It did seem like he decided to go back to what’s been workng for him lately on his last at bat and the first one was almost a hr. Like the other young guys, he’s still learning what works for him what doesn’t.

  133. tradejuanpypaperbag

As long as we can keep this core group of young players, we will be great in the long run. Our main concern is Ned and his trade happy ways. 🙂

  134. aeversw

Blake Dewitt has been a great story this year but its time for him to go back down to the minors. He has 0 extra base hits this month and in his last 120 At-Bats he has 0 home runs and 5 RBIs. Its time to give Andy LaRoche a real shot at 3rd. To my knowledge LaRoche hasn’t started more then 2 games in a row this season. He needs to be given the majority of the AB’s at third for the rest of the season if.

  135. jhallwally

Careful out there Beav!!! Glad Peralta had a good day for you Nelly. Just got to hope Nomar stays healthy and Ned doesn’t do something stupid again. Two big “ifs”!!!

  136. tradejuanpypaperbag

I am hoping for Nomar to stay healthy, too. If he stays healthy, our chances of Ned doing something stupid decreases some. Out of the vets, he does seem to be handling it pretty well so far. However, Kent’s blast today did speak nicely tonight, too.

  137. lagirl27

good evening my Dodger friends. Sad loss tonight, so sad that Matty couldn’t put it together in the 9th, and he actually had a good night before that. It just makes me nervous because that last at bat just proved what te haters say about him. which is that he is impatient and swings at anything. It’s ok Matthew- you will work the count next time.
    .
i made the people at the party put the game on. I was really really nervous when Jones pinch it. What was that anyway? He’s supposed to be home in bed eating soup- not pinich hitting!!!
    .
bluecrewgirl- i was rereading messagebear’s bloggers location and i don’t know if I told you but until next month, I still technically live in Corona. We are close 🙂
    .
Sara- of course- i will get you in with Russy and Dnelly will become Godmother of Dre’s unborn child!! I’ll hook everyone up once I’m in 🙂
    .

  138. swood@rcn.com

I don’t understand why you guys dont want Bay…I mean he makes us the favorite in the NL except for maybe the Cubs and puts us way ahead of anybody else in the west. I mean, I think Ethier and LaRoche for Bay and Jack Wilson is a great trade.

  139. jhallwally

You should be very proud. He is a truely fine young man. Thank him for me for honoring our vets and fallen heroes!!!

  140. tradejuanpypaperbag

Hey eric – how are you doing? Good game for the most part. Haren just pitched a good game, and we couldn’t catch a break with some of our hitting. Dbacks defense was great tonight, but we still have another chance tomorrow to take the series. Once again, the pictures on your site are wonderful. I went and looked again just because, and I showed my kids and husband and they thought it was great, too. They know you are the one with the cool car.
    .
Amy – it’s not all Matt’s fault. Yes, I am sure he will hear it and they will go over the “plan” for next time, but many of the boys had bad nights – Andre and Russ didn’t have great nights ethier (either). Like enchanted said, they are in a learning process now, and we have to be patient and let them develop into the players we know they will be, and it will be wonderful when it happens.

  141. lagirl27

Dnelly- oh, by no means was it his fault! no way. It just would’ve been great to see him drive it home. And yes, it does reinforce the negativity that ppl have about him. We know it’s not true!

  142. tradejuanpypaperbag

Oh and Amy – I’m am just fine being Andre’s”Super Fan.” I would love to meet him someday, but I wouldn’t go beyond that. I know you know that, but I don’t want Andre or anybody else reading this thinking I’m interested in meeting him for any other reason than just to meet him. 🙂

  143. dodgereric

Hi all, just managed to get down off the roof……….

Thanks for all the great remarks on my son’s project. He’s now concentrating on his last merit badge.

I missed the game again. I’m guessing we made it interesting at the end and came up a buck short.

  144. tradejuanpypaperbag

I am glad you got down off the roof safely Ward. LOL!!!! Beav is heading to L.A. tomorrow. We all hope he has safe travels.

  145. dodgereric

I would have been down sooner but someone took the ladder. You don’t think that the Beaver took it with him to LA, do you?

  146. tradejuanpypaperbag

jhall – I think I got a song for Matt. Amy – it’s not one of the songs you recommended, but it’s a well known song, and it works with Matt’s name. It’s a fun song – definitely a girl song. So, jhall – if you are still working on one, Matt will have two. He has some catching up to do anyway because I think Andre leads the pack in positive songs written about, and with, the players in it.

  147. tradejuanpypaperbag

The beav would definitely do something like that, especially when he is with his mischievious friends. I see Eddie has paid us a visit, too. 🙂

  148. tradejuanpypaperbag

Yeah, eric, Max_power mentioned the same thing. This one’s hard for me. I really do like both players unlike our outfield situation. I’m not sure why they aren’t switching off more, but then again, that’s Torre for you.
    .
Sort of – just want to finish it. I just heard the song and thought it would fit, and so far it’s pretty easy. I should finish and have it posted in a little while. Amy, it’s defintely more positive and a fun song. The origianl song is a fun girl song too. I’m not sure all the boys will know the song, but most of the girls should – song from the 80’s, and very girly LOL!

  149. tradejuanpypaperbag

I had heard through this house that the gnats want to unload Durham for probably the same reason we would love to unload one of our PVL’s. They are trying to go young just like us. As for the others, it still depends on who we have to give up. It really can’t be anybody that was on the field tonight as far as our young players. However, depending on what happens with Andruw and Pierre, what will happen to DY – he will definitely waste away on the bench. We just risk losing too much in any trade it seems, and to get what in return – a possible shortstop who may or may not produce the numbers we need.

  150. lagirl27

eric- since I wasn’t online today I am way late reading your post on your website. Anyway, congratulations to you and your son for working so hard for a great cause. I know how proud you must be of your him. It really shows us there are many more important things in this world than baseball!

  151. dodgereric

Amy, amen and thank you. I’ve told Matt how he’s become an on-line celeb of sorts today. He likes the idea!

  152. dodgereric

Of course, I told him this while he was picking up the dog crap in the back yard. Gotta do my best to keep him humble you know………..

  153. dodgereric

    To John Fogerty’s “Centerfield”

Well, beat the drum and hold the phone – Joe took me out today!
I can’t believe he had the nerve to do it.
    Dang, don’t he know that Frank pays me $100 thou a game;
Anyone can understand the way I feel.

    Oh, put me in, coach – I’m ready to play today;
    I feel good, coach – I really don’t have … the flu
Look at me, I can be centerfield.

    Well, I spent some time in the ATL nine, I won 10 Golden Gloves;
I hit a ton of dingers and made some All-Star teams.
    So say hey Willie, tell Ty Cobb and Joe DiMaggio;
When I wave at strike three, it ain’t no big deal.

    Oh, put me in, coach – I’m ready to play today;
    I feel good, coach – I really don’t have … the flu
Look at me, I can be centerfield.

    Got a brand new glove, a pristine bat, and brand-new pair of shoes;
I sure am glad that my contract is guaranteed.
    I hope that Frank and his sweet wife don’t want to fire Ned;
I’ll need him in case my wife might need a job!

    Oh, put me in, coach – I’m ready to play today;
    I feel good, coach – I really don’t have … the flu
Look at me, I can be centerfield.

    Song : Matty
    Original Song: Mickey
    By: Toni Basil
    .
For Amy – an ITD gal
    .
Oh Matty your so fine, your so fine
You blow my mind, hey Matty, hey Matty
Oh Matty your so fine, your so fine
You blow my mind, hey Matty, hey Matty
    .
Hey Matty you’ve been around all night
And you really hit that ball
I think you’ve got it right
But Joe thinks you’ve got it wrong
Why can’t you say “good game”
So you can take me home “Matty”
Cause when you say you will
It will really mean the most
    You’re giving me the chills
    .
    Matty
    Please Matty
    Don’t
    Ev’ry night you still
    Leave me alone
    Matty
    .
    Oh Matty
What a pity you don’t understand
You take me by the heart
When you see me in the stands
    You’re so pretty
    Can’t you understand
    It’s guys like you
    Matty
    Ooh what you do
    Matty
    .
    Do
    Matty
    Don’t break my heart
    Matty
    Hey
    Matty – now when you
    Hit the ball for two
    Every body knows
    And ev’ry time you move
They call you “Bison” you know
    .
    There’s something you can lose
    So don’t say no Matty
So come on and see me
    Your number one fan
    .
Anywhere you want to see me
    I’m your number one fan
    But please
    Matty
Please don’t treat me like a fan
    Matty
    Oh Matty
    .
    what a pity you don’t understand. . . .
    Oh Matty
    what a pity you don’t understand. . . .
    Oh Matty
    what a pity you don’t understand. .

About 5 minutes longer than this one:

To Linda Ronstadt’s “You’re No Good”

We’ll feel better when you are through
Feeling better ’cause you’re in Peru
Don’t let the door hit you in the butt
You’ll be livin’ in a Quonset hut

    You’re no good
    You’re no good
    You’re no good
    Baby you’re no good

    I’m gonna say it again
    You’re no good
    You’re no good
    You’re no good
    Baby you’re no good

You rummage through other teams’ trash
You walk around with that porn ‘stash
You sign a jewel and we see a swine
You can’t count to ten if I spot you nine

    You’re no good
    You’re no good
    You’re no good
    Baby you’re no good

    I’m gonna say it again
    You’re no good
    You’re no good
    You’re no good
    Baby you’re no good

I’m telling you now baby you get out of here fast
If you get started now you might not feel the blast

    You’re no good
    You’re no good
    You’re no good
    Baby you’re no good

    I’m gonna say it again
    You’re no good
    You’re no good
    You’re no good
    Baby you’re no good

    Oh, oh no
    You’re no good
    You’re no good
    You’re no good
    Baby you’re no good

  156. tradejuanpypaperbag

Amy deserves a fun one – she puts up with my issues with Pierre, and she realistically could be with Matt someday.

  157. tradejuanpypaperbag

LOL!!! In my case neither did John Travolta – lol!! Now, if your talking baseball, I thought it was possible for me to marry Mike Scoscia back when he was number 14 with the Dodgers. One night Vinny told the story that his now wife met him by baking him cookies and sending them to him. Now, if I would’ve known cookies would have won him over, I could easily have done that – that is my favorite thing to bake. (jk) All life’s things happen for a reason and God knows it every step of the way.

  158. dodgereric

LOL!!! Well you know, one of the many things I’m famous for around here is chocolate chip cookies. Most places I want to go won’t let me in unless I have at least a dozen of them. Perhaps if I gave you the receipe you might still have a shot at him. 🙂

  159. tradejuanpypaperbag

LOL!! We will have to compare recipes some day. Actually, I am one of those that makes like 20-30 different types of cookies during the holiday season. Wally’s going to wake up hungry LOL!!!

  160. tradejuanpypaperbag

yes, you have had a long day! I have about 5 different songs swimming in my head, but it takes me longer to complete a song compared to the three of you.

  161. dodgereric

    To Garth Brook’s “Unanswered Prayers”

Just the other night at the Merced All-Night Spa
My hub and I ran into good old Mike Scioscia
And as I introduced them the past came back to me
And I couldn’t help but think of the way things used to be

He was the one that I’d wanted for all times
And each night I’d spend prayin’ that God would make him mine
And if he’d only grant me this wish I wished back then
I’d never ask for anything again

Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers
Remember when you’re talkin’ to the man upstairs
That just because he doesn’t answer doesn’t mean he don’t care
Some of God’s greatest gifts are unanswered prayers

One night I was a-watchin’ the latest Dodger game
    When Vinnie turned me onto
a way to quench my flame
It was cookies that was the best way to his heart
I only needed to get him and her apart

But as he walked away I looked at my guy
And then and there I thanked the good Lord
    For Mike sayin’ good-bye

Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers
Remember when you’re talkin’ to the man upstairs
That just because he may not answer doesn’t mean he don’t care
Some of God’s greatest gifts are unanswered prayers

Some of God’s greatest gifts are all too often unanswered…
Some of God’s greatest gifts are unanswered prayers

  162. tradejuanpypaperbag

good night eric, and once again, congratulations to you, Matt and the other people involved in getting this flag erected. It is definitely a sight to see. 🙂

  163. dodgereric

‘Night nelly. Again, thanks to you and all of my other new friends here on ITD for your wonderful words to my son. It can be difficult to keep them interested in Scouting these days. They can take a lot of crap from their friends for wearing that uniform in public places and it’s good for them to hear encouragement from others.

God Bless all of you and……….c’mon Dodgers, get that rubber game……….

  164. northstateblues

Good morning ITDers. Just finished reading an article by T.J. Simers about why the Dodgers shouldn’t think about trading Matt Kemp, it’s a good read.

    http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-simers20-2008jul20,0,1635948.column?page=1

The main story’s great, but there were a couple of quotes in the later part of the articles that caught my eye. Here’s an insightful quote by ‘Dre:

    –v–T.J.–v–
ANDRE ETHIER, who sometimes gets lost in the background because he’s more solid than spectacular, made an interesting observation.

“They don’t like consistent players in this game unless you’re older,” Ethier said. “They want to see the young guys flash a lot of stuff or they get impatient.”
    –^–T.J.–^–

Wonder who the “they” are, “they”‘re always saying things like that. Here’s a quote from “Superman” Jeff Kent, a 21st century lesson in hitting ’em where they ain’t…

    –v–T.J.–v–
JEFF KENT, something like one for 22 beginning the game, drilled three shots toward third base — each caught by Arizona’s Mark Reynolds to rob him of a hit. In the ninth inning, Kent hit the ball out of the park for a home run.

“He couldn’t play there,” Kent told Torre when he returned to the dugout.
    –^–T.J.–^–

Here’s to hoping Jeff Kent makes sure all his hits go where Mark Reynolds can’t play later today.

  165. tradejuanpypaperbag

Great article Northstateblues! I guess we now have to keep our fingers crossed that Ned and Joe want both the player with flash and the player that is always consistent.

  166. messagebear@msn.com

    Good morning, everybody!
The best part about the TJ Simers article is in the references he made to Ned, like he should take a vacation until after the trade deadline, and take Andruw with him, and don’t trade Kemp. Let’s keep that kind of pressure on Ned, and just maybe Frank will keep the misspent millions in mind when it comes to FIRING time.

  167. tradejuanpypaperbag

We have songs about Andre. We have a song about James and Matt also, but I thought about our all-star and thought he needed a song too.

eric – it’s posted on Russell’s thread too.

We always like you and enchanted to wake up to some entertainment -lol!! good morning, or almost afternoon for you 🙂

  169. heartruss

Ha ha. I think that everyone tends to forget that someone from the front office may read this blog. Amy dear, try not to sound like such a stalker even in jest. It sounds a little scary..Dnelly, you have the right idea. We all love our guys but have to be realistic here. We all hope for a good season even if it’s not to the playoffs. Just cheer on our Dodgers. Remember baseball is a game and not a matter of life or death. We’re fans for the love of baseball!!

  170. tradejuanpypaperbag

jhall – I forget sometimes you and enchanted are not in our time zone so it’s fun to include you two in the fun when it is still early on the west coast and eric and I are still in rare form. We are heading out on a school clothes shopping trip out in Gilroy (huge outlet mall) so I will not be here for the game. Have a wonderful day, and I will catch up with you when I get back. Hopefully Ward will check in on you to see how you are doing, if you are even here yourself. Maybe you are out doing something fun too.
    .
HAVE A FABULOUS DAY ITD WRITERS!!!!
    GO DODGER BLUE!!!!!

This is another song I did last night thanks to eric and all those ideas swimming in my head. I just got in from church and wanted to post it before heading off on a shopping trip. Have fun watching the game, and I will be cheering us on via my phone. GO DODGERS!!!
    .
Sorry – still stuck in an 80’s time warp – lol!!

Song: Do You Really Want to Hurt Us
Original Song: Do You Really Want to Hurt Me
    By: Culture Club
    .
    Ned it’s time
    To realize your crime
    Let’s not trade or deal
We have danced inside your mind
    How can it be real?
    .
Do you really want to hurt us
Do you really want to make us cry
    .
    Precious players
    Trades that hurt us
    Writers always ask you why
You would trade our very best
    Keep them Dodgers
    Stay with youth
Players people will come to see
    That’s a step
    The best so far
    .
Do you really want to hurt us
Do you really want to make us cry
Do you really want to hurt us
Do you really want to make us cry
    .
    Words are few
    You have spoken
We could waste many more years
Wrapped in sorrow with vets playing
Come inside and catch our fears
You’ve been quiet but believe us
If it’s true you do not know
If it’s vets you want for us
    Then please go away
Everything is not what you see
    It’s our youth today
    .
Do you really want to hurt us
Do you really want to make us cry
Do you really want to hurt us
Do you really want to make us cry

  172. swood@rcn.com

Ned-Please ask about Bay…if nothing else to see what the chances are of acquiring him if someone gets injured.

  173. bluecrewgirl

Tony Jackson just reported that the Dodgers DFA’d Maza and signed a new infielder:

Ozuna, a utility IF like Maza, was DFA’d by the White Sox on July 8 to clear room for Paul Konerko, who came off the DL that day. Ozuna hit .281 (18 for 64) in 32 games for the Sox, with three doubles and six RBI. He can play all four infield spots and in the outfield, although he hasn’t play the outfield much since breaking his leg last season.

    Good morning/ After noon-
    .
Dnelly that was a great song. Totally upbeat and fun. So are so great!
    .
Eric- yours were amazing too. I loved them Sorry that I didn’t stay up last night to read them, it was past my bedtime.
    .
xoxo- you are totally right. I really am not a stalker. Everything here is just said in good fun. I don’t really have girlfriends that like baseball so sometimes I just like to express my fantasies here with people that would understand. I am sorry to you and to Dnelly if I said anything offensive. I will tone down my comments. I only want the best for Matt and this ball club. That always has and will be my focus.
    .
Also- that article by TJ wa really good. He stuck up for the “good guys”. I think he “gets it” too 🙂
    .

  175. scurtis1999

Ugh who to root for today. My ex high school teammate Webb throwing against my Dodgers today! Ugh, I hate when this matchup occurs, but go BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  176. jhallwally

Agreed BlueGirl!!! Amy, your enthusiasm for Kemp and our young players is fun and refreshing. Very akin to the way the girls swooned over Elvis, the Beatles, Donny Osmond, David Cassidy, etc……. Sorry, I don’t know who they swoon over now.

  177. lagirl27

Thanks bluecrew girl 🙂 Im the kind of person who never wants to offend people or make people on mad. I like happiness and for everyone to be friends. So that means I want a positive representation of myself, especially when I am online. And like I said, this blog allows me to indulge in Dodger greatness, that I don’t get to do in my everyday life. You guys are my outlet 🙂

  178. lagirl27

Thanks Jhall too. I know you guys got my back and understand where I am coming from.
    .
It was funny my younger brother (who grew up with me during my teenage years with ‘nsync) told me yesterday that the
Dodgers= Amy’s new nsync. I thought that was hilarious!
    he knows me too well.
    .
I just know what I like and I am loyal to it 🙂

  179. jhallwally

I loved Grace Slick (60’s), Debbie Harry and Stevie Nicks (70’s), Crissy Hind of the Pretenders (late 70’s, early 80’s).

  180. ucscslug

So nothing against Blake DeWitt, he’s a solid player and I believe he will be a valuable player (hopefully 2B) for us someday soon, but why can’t Andy LaRoche get a freakin start? DeWitt has struggled a lot lately, BA down to .258 and OBP and SLG percentages down near Juan Pierre levels. I think we need to give LaRoche more of a chance to show us his power bat.

  181. boblee14@yahoo.com

What kind of screwed up play was that. Dodgers deserve to lose today the way they are playing. What does it take to wake this team up. Lowe stinks, Penny stuck up the place before going on the DL. It’s going to be hard to sit and watch this today.

  182. messagebear@msn.com

Get rid of that #2hole Lowe while we can still get a couple of good prospects for him. He’s not going to bring us anywhere, and he is not and does not want to be a Dodger. F him off the club NOW!!!

  183. bluecrewgirl

The inning should be over now. That was horrible execution on the run down that should have been a double play.

  184. lagirl27

1st- Kuroda, the Billz, now Lowe. What’s up with our pitching?! Lets go boys! Lowe, you got this!!!

  185. lagirl27

so what do we know about this ozuna guy? A white sox, why did they release him? and why 3rd base? I need some answers please.

  186. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Well…. I said it yesterday, and I’ll say it again today… WE CAN’T AFFORD TO HAVE BAD PITCHING AND DEFENSE!!!!!!! WTF IS UP WITH OUR PITCHING!!! ANY WHY THE HELL CAN’T OUR TEAM GET BOTH THE OFFENSE AND PITCHING GOING AT THE SAME FREAKIN’ TIME!?!?!? IT’S ALWAYS ONE OR THE OTHER!! BUT NEVER BOTH!!! !@#$@#$#$

  187. boblee14@yahoo.com

Totally pathetic playing by the Dodgers today. I’m going to have to find something else to do. Can’t watch this.

  188. boblee14@yahoo.com

One comment……. What is with our pitchers having such bad first innings. Don’t they warm up enough before the game. Takes to the 2nd inning before they get in control. We need to replace our pitching coach next…Honeycutt not doing it.

  189. leekfink

    Not a good start.
    .
I agree with redfox’s earlier comment that it is sort of ridiculous to be fishing around ffor a 3rd baseman. If we don’t think that DeWitt has enough pop, then let LaRoche play, whihc was the plan before he got injured in March.
    .
It makes zero sense that if we need a shortstop that, if we can’t et one, we’ll get a third baseman. That’s sort of like needing a pair of shoes, and then not being able to find one your size and instead buying a pack of underwear because it’s on sale. What are you going to do with the underwear, and you still have no shoes.
    .
Look, if Nomar stays healthy, then we have a shortstop and 2 third baseman. If we trade for a thirdbaseman, then we have a shortstop and 3 thirdbaseman, and no insurance for Nomar getting hurt.
    .
As for today’s move of claiming Pablo Ozuna, it’s sort of a wash, but I am not fond of it. Ozuna’s numbers are better than Maza’s offensively , but 1) will he produce as well in the National League, and Dodger Stadium in general? Probably not; 2) is he as good defensively as Maza? Unknown, but that is the key isssue, because if we want offense at 2B, it’s about Kent or LaRoche, not Maza or Ozuna.
    .
We lose nothing, since Maza will probably bnot be claimed, and he can be re-assigned to AAA (like Terry Tiffee was), but it’s a classic case of preferring a guy just because he is older (34), not because he is really any bettter.

  190. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Of course, now Lowe will settle down, and won’t give up anything else in the game… and we’ll come back and lose 3-2 again!!! That’s how his games go…. It’s textbook… I’ve soooo been ready to trade Lowe for the last couple of seasons. He has never been a favorite of mine… He totally used his post season with the Red Sox to get a good contract… We so desperately need to let him go and get either some prospects or a can of Turtle Wax… whatever… I’m seriously tired of this inconsistent crap that we field on a regualr basis!!!

  191. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Ou one consistent guy right now could go on the DL if he sneezes to hard…. What the heck was up with that strike him out throw him out dp just now… Loney must have missed a sign… no way that was a straight steal by Nomar

  192. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Can anyone name a really good pitcher that we’ve beaten this year? Just one…. anyone… I hear crickets on this one I’m afraid…

  193. lagirl27

Well, Brandon, we’ve had moments of greatness. I think Kuroda has probably been our best pitcher this year- but then he has moments like on Friday. Only 2 innings? Totally not cool. I wish we had to BP of last year. He was so amazing. This year is just a shaky one, next year we will be more on track.
    .
Like I said before, all we have to do is win the west. Which we CAN!! Postseason is where it counts. Anything can happen there. ie. the Rockies last year. We shouldn’t give up at all. We have pleanty of time to pull something off.
    .

  194. lagirl27

And scurtis- hello my friend. Now take that back. We are not worse than the d-backs. Just wait til they come to our house next week. Game over (haha- no Gagne pun intended)

  195. scurtis1999

Hi Ms Amy. They are better then us. There 1-2 punch of Webbie-Haren are better then any of the 5 we have. I love da Bill and Kuroda but they just don’t match up. Offenses are probably even and I think our bullpen is a tad better.

    Better? lol

  196. lagirl27

I look to things turning around. That’s why this is baseball, anything can happen (not is Russy throws to the outfield instead of center :(..). We have a ways to go, and it doesn’t matter til the bitter end. I think we will be better last year and we will polish things off. We need to Penny- Lowe 1-2 punch back! They were an awesome duo!
    .
haha. we are still better 🙂

  197. boblee14@yahoo.com

Ground balls and bloop fly balls is what we’re reduced to today. Really sickening.. We can’t beat a good pitcher.

  198. boblee14@yahoo.com

Same old s*** again. Makes me want to scream.

When is the first NFL preseason game. I can hardly wait.

  199. lagirl27

I miss Juan. Do we know when is starts his rehab? Soon I hope. I don’t like to see my little “Piernas” hurt!

  200. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

We waste crucial chances, time after time, our pitching has never been on the same page as our hitting and vice versa, we lack a true ace, and we don’t have any kind of a power threat… not to sound somber or anything… but who are we scaring other than paying fans who go to the park? This team is still a year or two away from really competing… it’s frustrating because they tease you left and right… they show glimpses of greatness as you said amy…. But unless something drastic changes, we’re not going anywhere this year. I say that as our one player performing lately grounds into a really poorly timed double play…. well, I’d love for them to catch fire and prove me wrong, needless to say, it surely would not be the first time…. But, I just sadly don’t see it happening.

  201. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

And also… as I mentioned earlier, it was destined that Lowe would settle down and pitch a fairly good game… But you can’t expect us to play catch up ALL THE TIME!!!

  202. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

I’m still waiting for you guys to name one really good pitcher that we’ve beaten this year? Anyone?

  203. northstateblues

Hi everyone. Just a 3 run defecit… this is a Los Angeles team we’re talking about, anything can (and probably will) happen before the end of this one, just hoping the luck fairy comes our way soon.

Quick question since we’ve been on the 70’s/80’s tilt lately… If Russ is the Captain, who’s Tenille?

  204. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

You’ve got to pinch hit for Lowe here… We’ve got a look at the game and need to take advantage of it!!

  205. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Nice Scurtis… The only one I can think of is we beat Haren in LA.. but he was insanely off of his game that night too.

  206. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

It’s decisions like this one Scurtis that really tick me off!! Leaving Lowe’s sorry *** in there to try to bunt when you’re down 3 and have a chance to get back in it…. that was our chance right there…. ANOTHER WASTED CHANCE!!!

  207. lagirl27

whether it’s our year or not, I’m still coming out to the games, still supporting our guys and hoping for the best. We know the potential is there, they just need to connect the dots!
    .

  208. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Wow…. really sadly have to say… that WHO DID NOT SEE THAT COMING!!! THIS SUCKS!!

  209. boblee14@yahoo.com

Typical with RISP with Kemp up. He can’t seem to just make contact with the freaking ball. Hits home runs with nobody on. Cardinals just won a game with a walk-off grand slam against Padres. Why the hell can’t we do that………..

  210. scurtis1999

Nice job Kemp. He can’t hit the big time pitchers yet in a clutch situation.

Yeah Haren is all I can think of.

Too early too pinch hit. If it was September yes, but too early. Don’t want to kill that bullpen just yet.

  211. boblee14@yahoo.com

I say again, where the hell is the fire in this club?

FIRE TORRE’S SORRY A**. I’m tired of watching him standing leaning on the rail and smirking. He’s worthless. Take Ned with you.

  212. northstateblues

    brandon, we beat zambrano

    By saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net on July 20, 2008 2:40 PM

I remember that one, sara. Zambrano sent some gatorade flying after getting knocked out of that one. Of course, it’s not like Carlos ever needs much of an excuse to send gatorade coolers flying…

  213. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

northstateblues, i think he stomped on the cooler after it was on the ground too.. haha.. his blowups are always funny to me since he’s not on my team..

  214. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

well that was a threatening inning… we seriously have become feast or famine… we either score 8 runs and win by one… or we score 1 or none at all…. The one thing I take from this series is that A. it’s in AZ and B. we faced Haren and Webb… we can’t handle either one of them let alone both…. So, that equals us losing a series and falling 2 games back. Where we will make up the difference is in Colorado and the following series… We’ve got a little bit of a more soft schedule coming up and we severely need to take advantage of those games that are very winnable.

  215. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

and we beat chris young earlier in the year.. i know he’s not jake peavy, but i consider him a good pitcher.

and we beat ben sheets too

  216. northstateblues

Yeah, I forgot about him stomping on the cooler too. Classic.

bit off topic, but even though I’m visiting SoCal in a week, I still couldn’t stop myself from getting my fix of Crazy Gideon’s commercials on YouTube. I’ll probably never make it to Traction Ave., but his commercials are the funniest on TV. Maybe Zambrano can help him with the commercials after he retires.

  217. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

brandon, i get your point. we have trouble with big name guys.. there are some good wins in there.. but not enough. we will put it together soon. i believe we will..

  218. jungar@wsgcorp.com

Sad, I am loosing interest in this team. I don’t even have much to say, the more I read about the things Torre says along with what Ned has done along with all the stuff that has gone under the McCourts since they bought the team I have lost alot of hope. I do not believe in them. Simple as that. I don’t believe this team will win a WS. That sucks.

  219. vl4ecc

Webb appears to be dialed in. The only chance this team has is against the Snakes relievers – if Webb can’t finish.

  220. northstateblues

This quote made me feel a bit uneasy, unless Frank’s using some of Ned’s phone cord as a leash…

    http://wap.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080720&content_id=3161557&c_id=la

Having expanded their deadline search to include a third baseman and with manager Joe Torre saying he expects the club to be “active” in the coming 10 days, the Dodgers’ announcement Sunday was admittedly only an incremental upgrade.
    [. . .]

“I know Ned [Colletti, general manager] is on the phone, trying to make our club better,” Torre said. “Chances are, we’ll be active. Having said that, we’re trying.”

Of course, all this is from the mouth of “Mouse” Gurnick, who tends to make mountain headlines out of molehill quotes. Still scary, though.

  221. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

I saw that the Brewers dealt for Ray Durham…. Teams are trying to improve themselves… and we seem content on being mediocre

  222. northstateblues

Don’t get me wrong, I think we could use improvements. It’s just that for the past two years, “improvements” have become roadblocks preventing us from finding out what we have with the younger guys.

  223. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

brandon, you know that if we got ray durham everyone would be so upset. just because other teams make a move to get someone doesn’t mean that move is right for us..

  224. lagirl27

I feel you northstateblues. We just need this trade deadline stuff to be over so we can rest easier. I still don’t understand the picking up another 3rd baseman? We already have backups there, still no real backup short shop.
    .
    brandon- think positive thoughts!

  225. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

By that, I don’t mean that Ray Durham is anyone’s savior or anything… But he’d be a great addition to the bench and offer some leadership and play hard. I understand that we ran into some good pitching so far after the break… But what we can’t afford is for our pitching to go south all of the sudden as well… We are not nearly good enough offensively to get by without good pitching. So if we keep giving up 3 run leads left and right, you can go ahead and plan on getting excited about seeing the Dodgers in their new spring training facility because that’s all you’ll have to get excited about….

  226. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Nice inning by Trancoso so far… Maybe he should get some more chances there Joe 😉

  227. dodgereric

All this complaining about not beating a guy like Webb. <;( Do you think a lot of teams DO beat this guy?? It’s when we can’t beat a journeyman pitcher that you should be complaining. Losing back-to-back to Haren and Webb is no disgrace, and we haven’t lost yet by the way. Sure wouldn’t want to go to war with a quitter.

  228. dodgereric

Trading prospects for a washed up and expensive Durham is about what I expect Ned to do. I’m glad he didn’t. A move just to make a move is usually a mistake.

Thanks Kent. More of that great veteran situational hitting…………

  229. jungar@wsgcorp.com

what no comment on how all Kent does s hit solo shots? 8 of his 10hr this season are solo shots. our clean up hitter for the year..

    .250 .310 .441 .751

  230. jungar@wsgcorp.com

    .250/.310/.441/.751 Kent in 4 hole
    .306/.377/.484/.861 Kemp at leadoff

or bluntly scurtis pick on something that needs to be picked on. sick of your Kemp sucks act.

  231. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Again, like I said before, I’m not saying that an old expensive Ray Durham is any kind of a hero, or going to make the Brewers amazing. But how many times have we seen teams aquire players that seem washed up and not helpful and all of the sudden they make an impact. Look, I’m just as afraid of what we may or may not so as anyone on here…. But this team as it stands right now is going nowhere fast. We need an awful lot of things. I’m not complaining.. I’m simply stating the facts… I love the Dodgers, I’d love to see them come back in this game and contend for the rest of the year. But realistically we have sooo many holes. It’s really hard when a team is this young and still a year or 2 away from competing… You have to try and figure out who is going to help you contribute and do it now… Whoever is not, needs to go while their value is high…. It’s not like anyone ever said that these kinds of decisions were easy, but, not everyone turns into Albert Pujols either…. It’s an awfully tough call, I’m glad I’m not the one making it… But I can’t stand to see a team that is this inconsistent… It’s maddening…. As I type this… I really hope we either go down 1,2,3 in the ninth or they FINISH WHAT WE STARTED LAST NIGHT AND BEAT THESE GOD DAMNED SNAKES!!!! COME ON BLUE!!

  232. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

This is sdaly where our lack of power kills us…. Can we think of one person in our lineup right now that the opposition would give a free pass to so that they could avoid their bat?

  233. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Come on!!! Can we handle the tease 2 days in a row!?!? Lets beat these guys damnit!!

  234. ucscslug

keep the faith jungar. we got a good core of young guys, and will have money to spend once all these vets contracts expire the next couple years. now all we need is to spend the money wisely and keep our core together.

  235. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

nOW THAT IS WHAT THE HELL I’M TALKING ABOUT!!! COME ON ETHIER KNOCK HIM IN AND LETS WIN THIS DAMN THING!!!!!!!

  236. ucscslug

why would they ever want to trade that guy. If he’s capable of this at age 23, imagine what he’ll do in 3-4 years. Kemp is great.

    How bout them kids!

  237. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Now THIS is how you shut me the hell up!!!! Keep it going…. Beat these guys and This would be a HUGE win!!!

  238. scurtis1999

    Kemp and Dre nice!!!

    HUGE!

Lyon threw a ton last night, I can’t believe they used him again.

    Warm up the big man!

  239. jungar@wsgcorp.com

oh scurtis you know he frustrates me,..but he’s twenty freeking 3. once he really learns pitch recognition, look out. you surround the core with productive players (not jones, kent, pierre, etc) and no one complains about the kids. they are all doing well

now its time to give LaRoache a fair shot at 3b. Dewitts July’s OPs is lower than Jones’s for the year. think about that.

  240. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

If they win this game it would prove to be an enormous push…. If they lose this game it would hurt like no other….

  241. boblee14@yahoo.com

OK, I’ll eat some crow. Can I have some salt please. I left the game in the 4th and was 3-0, and just sat down to get the score and lo and behold, we have come back. Maybe this will fire them up. Do we have to wait so long in the game to do this.

  242. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

WOW!!! THIS IS AWESOME!! SORRY FOR THE CAPS… BUT I’M SO DAMN EXCITED THAT THEY’RE KEEPING THIS UP!!!! KEEP IT GOING BOYS!!!

  243. perumike

I haven’t been able to watch the game, and I just went to Fox Sports to fine out how bad we lost, and I find a 5-4 score! Amazing! Even more amazing, Andruw got an RBI!

  244. scurtis1999

Yeah I know he’s young, but I just don’t like his plate discipline and just reminds me of Mondesi. If you trade him, you gotta do it when he’s at the highest value. If he’s a Dodger by the end of this year, then I bet he won’t be traded at all.

Who would you rather have in CF though, JP or AJ?

DY isn’t an everyday player, just a 4th OF.

  245. lagirl27

See Brandon! No more negativity out of you!! Our Dodgers rock. You gotta keep the faith always.
    .
you know Matt was thinking “gotta work the count” “can’t repeat last night’s at bat” Way to go MATT!!!

  246. bluecrewgirl

C’mon, hang on guys! That’s so awesome that they came from behind. Now we just need Brox to bring the heat and close it out.

  247. bluecrewgirl

Amy, that was a great a bat by Matt and it was great to see Andre come through since he’s been struggling the last few games.

  248. lagirl27

sara- that was so scary when Russy got hit by the pitch in the chin. It scares me to death everytime he gets hit. I don’t want it to affect his career- it wont but that’s the danger in catching.

  249. ucscslug

i didnt think so before, but now it I think Brox has the look of a confident closer. last year he had a couple chances and didnt look comfortable. I think he has “it”.

  250. lagirl27

yea bluecrewgirl- Dre needed that pick me up. And so did Russy. We need to get him back to .320! Awesome Rally!

  251. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

I was having reverse psychology amy!! It worked amazingly!!!!! Now let’s bring the cheese BIG JOHN STUD!

  252. lagirl27

haha. Ok Brandon- I’ll give the benefit of the doubt. Just don’t sound like a hater- it’s much mote effective to be a supporter 🙂

  253. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

we were CRUSHING the ball against lyon.. all the hits by nomar, loney, laroche, kemp, ethier, and martin were ripped. i’m surprised melvin left him in that long especially after the outting he had last night. this win will be HUGE. come on broxton!!

  254. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

amy, i know.. when they showed the replay.. it looked like the ball glanced off his adam’s apple.. my throat felt like it closed up for a sec when i saw that because it looked so painful. he’s a fighter though. he’s fine. but i always get scared about an injury to russ.. knock on wood!

and matty, had a tremendous at bat.. i was thinking when he walked up to the plate.. all his postgame quotes from yesterday made it sound like he really learned something, and i figured he’d try and see a few pitches if he could.. he fouled off some tough pitches and waited for something he could rip. it was SO great to see him come through!

come on brox!! get the last out!!

Phew!!! That was a little close there at the end. Hopefully, Ned will think twice about dealing any of the young talent. They showed in 2 of the 3 games with AZ that they are figuring out how to win the big games.

we pulled through and didn’t give up.
Sara- I agree. Matt really did sound like he learned from last nights game. That article by TJ was a very nice way to wake up with morning. My dad saved it and put it out the table for me to read. So my question is, doesn’t this prove that he listens and can be coached? Heck yeah it does! The Kemp haters need to stop!

I wish the game was on Prime Ticket- I hate when there is no post game wrap up.

The boys looked so happy together. We needed that 🙂

2 of 3 from the Snakes at the sticker patch is a great way to start the 2nd half. I hope they go into Coors, and do just as well. GO DODGERS!!!

Great win…. Unbelievable win… a season changing kind of win…. that’s what makes a team come together and have a great second half to a season…. These are the kinds of games that can send a team on a 10 game win streak…. That’s my Dodgers…. Keep it up boys, and soon enough we WILL be alone atop the division!!

9th inning comebacks like that always remind me why i love baseball.. not that i ever forget..

the boys know they got away with one.. they can’t keep playing from behind.. but also, even to stay within striking distance of haren and webb.. we are growing.. and we are learning how to win.. we just need to figure out the consistency thing.. i believe in this team..

  264. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

BTW…. a few years ago I was at Petco when we were up by 5 in the 9th and lost… and watching the Brox meltdown last year against the Pads…. This is really nice to do to someone else… especially with 1st place on the line!!

GO BLUE!! Great series…. I just really hope our pitching gets back on track…. But the bats have really looked good now that Donny Baseball is at the helm.

Forgot to give a shout out to Russell for that all important insurance run that ended up being the winning run. Nomar has been rejuvinated since he came off the dl. I really hope he can keep it up.

First place ice cream, does that mean the front office gets it tomorrow? or do they have to wait until the boys come back home? hmm.. how does that work Josh?

ANDRE ETHIER, ANDRE ETHIER, ANDRE ETHIER, ANDRE ETHIER – That’s what I heard in the car all the way home. I hadn’t checked on the game much past the 3rd inning. We were down 3-0 at the time, and I said my phone will let me know if we score. So, I went on a shopping (got some very good buys, BTW). No lie – we were getting sat a table for lunch and I hear my phone telling me there’s a text, so I’m thinking end of the game stats. So, I look on my phone to see that Andre was up to bat, no sooner than I sat down that my phone went off again, saying Andre Ethier batted in a run, and the Dodgers take the lead 5-4. And then to find out it was a triple was incredible. I was cheering in the restaurant. My family thinks I am crazy, but it’s okay – I am a Dodger fan you know- kind of comes with the territory these days. I just watched the clip and it was awesome. Then of course I had to watch all the other highlights of our boys having a fabulous come back win. I will watch the whole game in a little bit, but I just wanted to check in and say what a fabulous ending to a beautiful day – it was a great shopping day too. As for the beginning of my statement. We were listening to the SF radio station and they were talking about the gnats loss and the trade for Durham, and they were doing there the scores around the league and Andre’s name was said 3 times during the ride home. I am in a car with all gnat fans mind you, and this doesn’t happen too often in gnat country – Dodgers names mentioned when we are not even playing them. I did not say a word, I just relished in the fact that we won and were are not tied for first once again. 🙂
