Texas kids come home…

Kershaw on the bump tonight in Houston, TX, his home state. I’m sure he’d love to get his first win out of the way so we’ll all stop asking about it.

Loney is also back in the town where he grew up. Perfect timing for the launch of James Loney, Before the Bigs, which airs tomorrow night after the game on FSN Prime Ticket.

As for the lineup, well, you knew it would get interesting eventually with Pierre out due to the knee injury. Sitting atop it is none other than…

Kemp, CF

Young, LF

Martin, C

Kent, 2B

Loney, 1B

LaRoche, 3B

Ethier, RF

Maza, SS

Kershaw, P

Good to see the K King Raul Mondesi leading off because he won’t be getting on base swinging at sliders.

Actually Wandy might be a great matchup for him. I kinda like it now after thinking about it.

Wandy brings a fast, curve and change to the table.

This will be an interesting line -up – Matty first WOW!! It’s about time to try somebody new LOL!!!

Great lineup. This should be our outfield everyday!

Excellent lineup

DY is not an everyday player.

If it’s worth anything, this has to be one of the most intriguing lineups i’ve ever seen. Could Matt Kemp be the next Alfonso Soriano?

Hi! I’m Susan Sarandon and I’d like to speak to you on behalf of the CAI Foundation.

For those of you unfamiliar with CAI, it’s the newest, most terribly frightening disease. It’s Cranial-Anal Inversion, and it’s affecting mill, um, thous, um hund, er, dozens of, um, well right now it’s actually only affecting a couple of people in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization, but those of us who care want to get this nipped in the butt, er bud before it spreads to the general public.

With me is Ned Colletti, General Manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers and one of those unfortunate people who have been stricken with this terrifying new disease. Ned, could you give us an insight as to how dibilitating this can be?

“mphhmpdff, mphrmgsff mff mmphufff……”

Thank you, Ned! Please give generously. We need to halt this in its tracks.

Did anyone see who the first team we play after the AS Break is? If we can hold on and stay close, that will be an interesting series right after the break!

This is the best line-up I’ve seen Torre come out with all year sans Furcal.

Eric – guess then if Ned farts he’ll blow his brains out.

I really do like this lineup. This might actually work :) And what do you know, Ethier in with a lefty pitching. I thought he would sit just for old times sake, but Torre’s actually giving him a chance.
.
jnv – I am assuming the fires in the Big Sur/Monterey/Santa Cruz area are worse because of the wind they get from the coast, alot like those that suffer the same thing down in so-cal. My son has a tournament in Salinas/Monterey the weekend after next so I guess we will be able to see for ourselves.

Hey, Kemp might not be the best guy to lead off, but he can at least go 1-4 or 0-5 which is what slappy mcgroundout was doing.

LMAO!!!! eric – you are too much!! too funny!!!

One of the horrible symptoms of CAI is that those who have it have no brains to begin with, e. That’s what enables the cranium to be inserted. If the brains are still there, CAI cannot take hold. Tsk, tsk.

lol, hillariouis dodgereric.

Josh, suggestion for your blog: Can you place a number for each post, kinda like the way Weisman does it for his blog? Thanks

Why couldn’t Joe try this lineup before? I guess it’s that CAI again. Maybe he pulled his head out for a brief moment.
LMAO!!! oh, eric – too funny!!!!

Against a righty this would not be good, but I don’t mind Kemp against a lefty leading off.

I like this line-up and I like Ethier in the 7th spot. He’s more productive there. He doesn’t get a chance in the 2nd spot as Slappy was never on base that much and the 7th 8th and 9th place hitters haven’t been on for him to hit behind, when he’s hitting in the 2 hole.

This line-up might actually produce and score more than a couple of runs which is sorely needed. I will have to watch MLB.TV late as I can’t watch the game at the regular time. I want to turn on the game and see some action tonight so you guys get us some runs.

I believe that is what is driving those fires along with the water drought. And there are so many fires the firemen are letting the fires in the isolated areas just burn and are focusing their attention on the populated areas.

Good point, scurtis. Kemp destroys lefties for the most part with troubles against righty breaking stuff.

Here’s some typical Torre talking out his **** about who will lead off:

With Pierre and Kemp out, Torre started Jason Repko in center field and batted him leadoff. He said he might do that again Tuesday, with the only other leadoff alternative being switch-hitting Delwyn Young.

“He’s the only other guy I would put up there,” said Torre.

YEA, my Matthew is leading off!! He needs to work on no striking out as often and then he’ll be awesome. Can some one give me a wrap up of las t night game? I was out :( sadly and had to catch the scores on my cell phone.

Boblee – you are so right!! Ethier is a doubles hitter and how can he drive in runs sitting at the top. And then you have the chance he hits one out too. I am so with you on this one, even though you are a Cowboys fan (jk). I do think, however, they had him in the 2 hole because of his patience (well he had patience until this group got a hold of him).

a link about the fires getting worse..
.

a lineup we’ve all been dying for… =)

I would like to have seen Repko in again tonight. He had a bad night just like Slappy had just about every night, why doesn’t he get a chance?? I mean the guy had to fly to Texas yesterday after being called up for the first time this year, I am sure there were butterflies and nerves. And since when does Torre sit a guy after going 0-5??? I thought guys only sat after they hit HR’s and went 4-4???? Is this part of the CAI again????

Pierre going on the DL is what pulled Joe’s head out. That’s what we all knew had to happen for someone else to get into the leadoff slot. That, or Furc coming back.

I like the lineup, too. Are we sure that Joe didn’t fly back to be at Juan’s bedside and it was Bowa who made out the lineup?

Amy – definitely looking forward to Matt leading just to see what somebody else could have been doing all along. Good to see you back :)
.
jnv – there are so many firefighters here in town, it feels like it should be a firefighters convention. I guess they have run out of hotel rooms in Mariposa and Oakhurst that the next spot is Merced. I am assuming Fresno is being used too, but still may be a little far for some areas.

Scott, yeah against a righty I would probably hit Russ or DY or hell even DRE!

Torre is such a worthless F*** coming to the National League. He doesn’t know his own players because he can’t relate to all the younger guys on our team, and he doesn’t know Schidt about any of our competition in the league. Strictly a poster boy to suit Frank’s delusions of grandeur and stupid enough in his antiquated baseball knowledge to suit Ned.

That’s just plain how I feel about JoJo the Dodger clown.

Also FIRE NED NOW, if not sooner.

Amy – the game wasn’t good – lost 4-1 with many chances to score but couldn’t pull it off. Matt was out because of eye infection and that’s about it.
.
The two most offensively deficient teams go toe to toe in a battle of the bats.
.
The above statement was from the rox website so I guess we can feel okay that they were referring to themselves and SD. Seriously, some teams are going through exactly the same issues. It really will come down to who can put their pitching and hitting together first, and that will determine who wins this division.

Wow. This is a nice lineup. Hopefully it puts up some runs tonight on Wandy who can be a tough lefty.

Tonight’s lineup:

Kemp, CF

Young, LF

Martin, C

Kent, 2B

Loney, 1B

LaRoche, 3B

Ethier, RF

Maza, SS

Kershaw, P

Hmmm, something is different. I look to my right, and there is Andy McDowell……………

Now take that lineup, take out Maza, shift everyone down a slot and put Furcal in the leadoff spot:

Furcal, SS
Kemp, CF
Young, LF
Martin, C
Kent, 2B
Loney, 1B
LaRoche, 3B
Ethier, RF
Kershaw, P

Excuse me while just stare at that for a while………….sigh………

jnv – I really thought they would start Repko over Ethier just because by now Ethier has got to be getting used to being sat when a lefty is pitching. Maybe it’s Joe’s condition LOL!!!

That’s a pretty picture, Eric.

eric – thank you for letting us dream even if just for a little while :)

Thank you! It’s sucks when we can’t cash in runners. I miss Little Blakey- I am kinda bend over LaRoche starting over him. I’m glad that they rotate, but Andy doesn’t do anything for me.

scott@whittiermailing It’s actually Slappy Mc popout. All it took for Joe to try something different was to have his little Juan taken away. I hope this line up produces, I doubt it couldn’t be worse than what we’ve been subjected to since Raffy left.

Dnel I am surprised as well, but I would like to have seen Repko in instead of DY just to see what he can do, I don’t think yesterday was a good look at him considering what I stated above.
Eric that is a pretty line up, except for Dre hitting 8th. He’s to good to be hitting that far down in the line up.

fire ned…. this is a great lineup… fire ned… when furc comes back this will be a good team… fire ned… kemp batting lead off is great… did i mention fire ned?

I like bear’s succinct to the point analysis of the Joe Torre Era in Los Angeles.

jnv – I would have liked to see Repko, Kemp and Ethier. I pulled for Repko all last night and it was pretty upsetting to read in the media how some reporters treated him knowing he had just been brought up. He took it in stride though and said he felt he was just too anxious. Statistically, Ethier best spot has been 5th this year, but he has had some good days in the 7th hole too. I could see him batting 8th because they would have to pitch to him, especially if he leads off an inning or with 1 out because you are not going to go around him only to get to Furcal a batter later. The only time it doesn’t benefit Ethier is with men on and two outs – they will walk him to get to pitcher. With maza and berroa in the 8th slot now -who’s afraid of them.?

That is so true, our 8th hole has been exactly that…. A hole for some time now. Hopefully when Furk gets back and the “Fridge” comes back we can get something going. I hope Jones can find his swing and come back and provide the thump we need. I don’t care if he bats .222 like last year as long as the balls he hits go over the fence!!

Dodge – so what you are saying is that you want Ned Fired
~ I am glad you cleared that up – very funny!!! LOL!!
.
very much agreed jnv :)

Did I miss something?? They’ve been forgetting about Berroa this week?

It looks like a lineup that should draw less complaints from the groundhogs.
But whatever the lineup- it’s what they do against tonight’s man of the night Wandy Rodriguez.
It would be great for Kershaw to get his first win in his hometown tonight.
Whatever -it’s time to score some runs.
LET’S GO YA BUMS!!!!

go blue. its like a weight has been lifted. i don’t know what to write.

You feeling OK Jungar??? I haven’t seen you this calm since…………………………………
Never!! LOL :-)

Hey Dnel, Have you seen Jhall around lately??? He seems to be missing???

Jungar – it’s nice to see that you are happy for a change :) I can hear your sigh from up here in the valley.

No, we haven’t and the mom in me is a little worried. enchanted hasn’t heard from him either and I’m not sure about eric.

As you know I was away from the computer from last Thursday afternoon until yesterday, but I was looking over other threads and didn’t see any comments from him???

When I heard about what happened to you, it makes you wonder if he is okay. I don’t remember reading that he was going anywhere for an extended period of time, and the fact that enchanted doesn’t know either is a little scary. He was gone for a day or two a week or so, and he was off a few days because of bad weather so I’m hoping for the best that it is something like that. Maybe eric has some insight.

Last jhall sighting was Sat night just before 11pm

WELL, SEEMS LIKE WE MIGHT LOSE THIS ONE TOO. AND SEEMS LIKE RUSS MARTIN ISNT GOING TO BE AN ALL-STAR THIS YEAR. HA OH WELL.

Thanks crash – it seems like it’s been longer – hmmmm!

I am glad that he was around on Saturday, I thought it had been a week since his last time here. Your right Dnel, after what I went through last week It has kind of change my out look on things!!!

oops… *changed my outlook* LOL

Sorry to say, but it doesn’t appear the Dodgers will be represented in the All Star game. Not enough fans went online to vote, or didn’t vote enough times. It’s unfair if Martin doesn’t get in. He’s better than the leading vote getters by leaps & bounds!
Aside from that, I’m rooting for Kershaw to get his 1st ML win in his home state.

jnv -I will hope for the best, but the mom in me is still worried.

Here’s a link I found to a map of where the fires are.

http://www.kcra.com/sponsors/16644003/detail.html

Looks like this will be the first time we see the youth movement in full swing. This is almost what we wanted, let’s see if the kids can take advantage.

As a wise man once said:
BELIEVE IN THE KIDS!!

so much for Raffy coming back – ugghhh!!!

I agree. Russell is an outstanding catcher and overall ball player. I dunno, there was so much excitement and buzz over voting last year that the fans got so into it. This year it seems like there is no hype and that ppl don’t care as much. The fact that Martin is not even in the top 5 is ridiculous. Anyway, I know that I voted for him my max amount.

jj – only the starters for each league are picked by the fans. The rest of the team and the pitchers are picked by the coaches. Every team has to be represented, so Russ will be there for the Ds, and he’s only deserving one IMO.

Way to go Russ!!!!!!!!!

Vast improvement over last night already!!

Believe it or not, I was just going to post a feeling I had that somebody would drive one out to left. Go Marty!

GO RUSS!!!!!!!! That’s how you start a game!

YEAA Home RUN!!!!! GO RUSSY

RUSSELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BETTER ALREADY!!!!!

DAMN! Kent just missed that one!

T W O RUNS
Thank to R U S S E L # 9

russell CRUSHED that ball! and kent just missed one too~

Will this be the first time Kersh has ever pitched with a lead??

What’s wrong with Raffy? I thought he felt good after the game last night?

VOTING ENDS TOMORROW FOR ASG… KEEP VOTING FOR RUSSELL!!! :)

.
yayyyy! for his homerun! :)
.

You never know Andre Kemp or Loney might just get another homerun today too… =)

scurtis.. he woke up tonight with back stiffness and was sent back to LA to be re-examined =(

They reported that he woke up with a sore back – going back to LA :(

today, not tonight..

haha dnelly.. we even both put sad faces..

thinking alike LOL!!!

Will this be the first time Kersh has ever pitched with a lead??

By enchantedsunset@hotmail.com on July 1, 2008 5:12 PM
Report any abuse or spam

Nope. He’s had leads before, just never had any big leads. Seems to be the same for most Dodger starters.

He has played his last game as a Dodger I believe.

Dnel, I know what you mean, I might not be a Mom but I am a Dad!! LOL I am out of here have a good night everyone and Lets get Kersh his first win!!!

You know what that means with Ferk… we’re stuck with Slappy leading off for the next three years.

bye jnv – hear from you tomorrow :)

Wow Kemp batting lead I don’t believe it but I rather have Martin there.

I am depressed.

enchanted – so what your saying is we need to really enjoy these next 4-6 weeks LOL! :)

Kersh just isn’t ready yet. This could be a long game.

oh no, settle down kershaw..

Kent had a brain cramp there! They should have got at least one out on that play.

no jjriley, i don’t think he could have made the play anyway. it was a nice stop..

ooh, andre ALMOST doubled him up.. that woulda been sweet!

I agree. Kersh isn’t ready for the bigs. He should be in the minors strengthening his arm and building up innings. Right now he’s a bit of a sideshow for Frank to bring in somemore fans to the stadium. The kid’s probably going to be great, just not now.

he was hit hard, but got out of it cheaply

What I don’t get is management will rush Kershaw who isn’t really ready, yet Dre, Andy (now Blake) and especially DY who are ready usually have to scratch out playing time.

Ouch!

OUCH! That had to hurt!

I was just glad Andre hit the ball. He didn’t strike out against a lefty and he got himself on base – good!!!

I just got online so good morning from Down Under.. nice to see we started well … and I agree enchanted .. Kershaw will be good but he’s up too soon for me as well. This is not a great ball park for him with that short porch in Left but it’s great to watch his development.

Ausmus will somehow win the game now with a HR in the 8th.

enchanted ~ why are you trying to figure them out? remember CAI :) LOL!!!

G-Day Rodmky!

I bet Nomar plays SS tonight.

good morning rodmky :)

Sorry nells, I was having a sane moment. :)

AWESOME play from Loney there!

wow james! nice play!!

Great catch by Loney INCREDABLE
Got to be a webb gem.

yeah russ! crushing the ball today!

My Loney has a first name,
It’s J-A-M-E-S
My Loney has a second name,
It’s L-O-N-E-Y
I love to watch him every day
And if you ask me why I’ll say
‘Cause James Loney has a way
With H-I-T-T-I-N-G!

By leefink and martinloneykemp

Good AB from Loney there.

Nice going L O N E Y

alright james! follow up the good D with a clutch hit!

OMG Loney didn’t grounded into a dp. I guess his family is watching. WTG Loney nice rbi single.

Damn this team hits into a helluva lot of douple plays.

Canada night & Russell Martin

Laroche!!! Seems to be grounding into alot of DP’s.

Why couldn’t we had Ethier batting ahead of Andy damn.

I am very proud of Andre hitting against those bad lefties. Good job!!!! :)

clutch hitting today!

Nice going Matt!

THAT’S something that Pierre couldn’t do.

VERY NICE MATTHEW RYAN KEMP!!! ANOTHER RBI !!!

Team leading 44th RBI for K E M P.

There is something in having a guy following the pitcher that can hit the ball hard … I know cable it’s another shot at JP but at least it was positive ….

enchanted ~ who would have thought? Oh, we did think of it over and over and over again, but who are we – just fans who seem to know a lot more about this club than the people that are running it. :)

I agree nelly but don’t get too comfortable because we know Joe is going to sit him against lefties as soon as Jones comes back.

rodmky – I know – I am just enjoying the time I have without JP in the lineup. LOL!!!!

That’s horrible news about Astro’s catcher – ouch!!! :(

Nice gapper from Kent!

Weird we get no walk with 11 hits yesterday and now we get 5. How funny what a day make

K E N T should be near .260 with that hit.

we are really hammering the ball today..

Wandy should had just walk Kent lol.

Kent is exactly at .260.

Get that runner in I hate seeing a runners at 2nd base with no out.

Oh well damn stupid slow dialup

hahahha Kershaw k’s this former player in the dodger organization.

What was the official diagnosis of the Astros catchers injury?

dnelly, what was the update on the astros catcher? i missed it.. i’m guessing concussion?

haha, nice scurtis.. looks like we’re both curious..

Huston commentators said it was a mild concussion and they’ve taken him to hospital for a check up

does tonights game not show Torre how well the young players can play if given they get to start and work on improving for the better every game….

Must be out for the season.

thanks rodmky

d’backs down early

Sara, there’s our answer!

What was the official diagnosis of the Astros catchers injury?

By scurtis1999@yahoo.com on July 1, 2008 6:41 PM
Report any abuse or spam

Fox Sports Houston said it was a concussion, and was sent to Methodist Hospital for further obsevation.

Loney has to learn to speak slower.

In other news the dback are losing 2-0 so far.

Damn Sara beat me to it.

is it time to find a shortstop of the future? Furcal setback in a contract year. Where do we go from here? Hu and Maza are not the answer.

lol at Hart stole 2 bases against Randy hahaha.

3-0 Brewers over Copperheads

BOY! Russ is having a great night!!!

Doesn’t Villiareal look something like Zambrano.

h ttp://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7112

ooh, double steal! we’ve been good at that..

Great night for Canadian MARTIN on Canada night.

“scored a run in every inning but the 2nd…”
.
Russell is just amaaaazing, like always.
.
Andre slapping Torre in the face by getting hits with lefties. What now Torre? Tell me Pierre boy can do better.
.

Too bad ‘Canada Day’ only comes once a year! lol

Those double steals Torre has up his sleeve are awesome! That’s one of Joe’s tricks that I really like.

6 walks already tonight.
THAT’S UNUSUAL

Another nice inning – Russell is on fire tonight – maybe he has his team out there tonight – no worries :)

i meant to write “Dodgers scored a run in every inning but the 2nd..”

sara – the catcher was flown to hospital with concussion.

Kershaw is doing good for his homestate! & Loney too. Way to make them proud =)
.
Such a good lineup tonight although there could be a few switches.. BUT not complaining AT ALL as long as Pierre is not in it, we’re good to go =)

ooh, FLOWN to the hospital? that’s not good..

sorry – didn’t realize your question was already answered – I was actually cooking – LOL!!

that’s alright dnelly. thanks anyway.

Oh Oh don’t like that lead off walk.

kershaw had a rough start.. but he’s really settled in nicely since the first inning.. and there are some big hitters in the astros lineup.

Where’s my dinner!!!

haha enchanted.. that one always makes me laugh

wow furcal is out i dont think he will be coming back for a while that is why this is the time to trade Ethier for a proven hitter we need all the offense we can get

i know joe likes to scramble the lineup daily regardless of a win or a loss.. but i’d like to see nearly the same lineup tomorrow. nearly, since i assume dewitt will play tomorrow..

i wonder what jeff is saying to the kid.. i don’t read lips =P

Screw you Tejada

enchanted – hhhmmm – smells good – too bad you are in New Mexico LOL!!!

eduardo, to accomplish what? lose in the first round of the playoffs? this team is capable of that.. one hitter will not make the difference you are asking for..

Wow Eduardo you just now figuring that one out lol.

not again, please!!!! not now!!!! :)

sara – we’ve gone over this and over this and over this – he won’t leave it alone.
.
Andre is doing just fine – leave him alone!!! :)

Good 5.2 for KERSH
ATTA WAY TA GO.

Come on Kershaw one more out.

hahahaha 5-1 Brewers

enchanted – pissed right now!!!

me, enchanted, I am talking about me -sorry :)

Nice move Joe.

Hardy just took Randy out again 6-1.

CRAP!!!!!!!!!!

don’t worry dnelly, eduardo doesn’t get a real vote on what to do with ethier.. and ethier has done nothing to warrant being traded.. they are short outfielders as it is, he’s not going anywhere..

that sucks for kershaw. he had a nice outing though.

That why I hate lead off walk damn.

I know but this has been an issue all day and last night :)
He thinks Holliday is the answer – it’s not :)

uh oh. we spoke to soon. way to screw that one up for Kershaw. He shoulda played another inning or two =(

holliday is not much more of a “proven” hitter than our guys.. and why would the rockies trade him to us anyway? proven is YEARS of good hitting.. not just a few.. and a few in coors field..

I think with Holliday you also have to ask yourself, why are the Rox so anxious to get rid of him? Afterall, he’s signned through next year.

Did Ethier just bat out of order?

Ethier is not going ANYWHERE so get over it, go think of other players to pick on that deserve it.
.

Or if he is going anywhere it’s to a team who would appreciate everything he’s got going for him. Which I hope doesn’t happen for awhile cus then I’m going to have some frequent flyer miles to rack up.

OOps

ethier had a good beat on that homer.. he almost had it..

who gets send down tomorrow when kuroda is activated. i think it should be kershaw

Andre is my favorite. Both He and Blake are really getting a mind f**Kk from Joe.

Sorry, but in most ball parks, that Wiggington HR would have been caught by Andre. Minute Maid Park has got these short porches & alleys.

my guess is falkenborg (not because of that homer just now).. but now that park is back in the pen, he’s not needed. it won’t be kershaw. they already said they’d go to a 6 man rotation.

Good question magic .. My guess would be Stults.

magic – my guess Kersh or Troncoso, but probably Kersh.

enchantedsunset, that’s the kind of foresight that I wish Colletti had. The ability to see a zito when he’s still pitching like a ZITO.

oh man. this game is going to get interesting…. If Andre caught that ball it woulda made top 10 on sports center tonight forsure.. haha..

I think this was actually one of the better games for Kershaw. He might not have given up those last two runs if he was left in. He only had two walks vs. 4 K’s tonight. I do agree that he doesn’t seem as ready for the majors, as some think, and I’m concerned that he’s not getting the close attention coaching that he would get from somebody other than Honeycutt. But, overall, I can’t disagree about keeping him with the club for the rest of the year, and I hope he continues to progress.

Eduardo, which “proven hitter” would you like that would’nt cost 2 or 3 of our young, frontline players? All so we can lose in the first round of the playoffs? As a lot of us have said all season, look to the future; play the kids and see who can play and who can’t and make moves accordingly….Furcal has sure had horrible luck in his walk year. We’ve likely seen the last of him this year. The D’s might want to consider bringing up DeJesus up to get an idea of what he can do. I agree that Hu and Maza aren’t the answer.

this doesnt make sense to me. why bring brox in now? let Kuo pitch, he’s had like a week off

We really need this game. I don’t want another night of reading how the young players didn’t do enough to get the win and get blamed for something that isn’t their fault, but the fault of our managers.

seesky – he wants Holliday – thinks he’s the answer :)

Go get em, Big John!!

I hope Brox does well. He got lit up earlier this year from this team.

it was a mistake to take kershaw out when he did. i think it would have been better for kershaw’s confidence for him to blow the game than to let his teammates blow it. this is bogus.

Very disappointing for Kershaw .. the game he had in the bag given away by the bullpen.

Unbelievable that Kershaw doesn’t win AGAIN.

That sucks! Kershaw pitched well enough for the win, now he gets a no decision at best……

Brox has not impressed me this year – too inconsistent. I wonder whether it’s lack of conditioning like a couple of our other fat slob guys. He’s certainly not looking like a potential closer now.

How does Joe not let Kuo pitch out of that. The guy is a strike out artist. Brox does NOT put out fires. He is fine to take the 8th as a set up man with a few runs ahead.

Nelly, his post and mine must have crossed in cyberspace. Bad idea. It’s a trade within the division. He can walk in year and a half and yes, you do tend to wonder why they’re willing to deal…. Ah, S###t, tie game. Sorry, Kersh.

Damnit! Damnit! Damnit! Torre should have let Kersh stay in against Wigginton. He also shouldn’t have intentionally walked Berkman to put the tying run on base. Torre Sucks

bullpen’s paying the offense back for all the games with no hits – who the hell knows anymore :) It will be the young players fault anyway. Like eric said, they already are the fall guys.

Torre really screwed up that inning. Kuo should have been left in. This happens everytime Broxton comes in with runners on in the 7th. He obviously doesn’t pitch well in that situation and then to make him even more uncomfortable by making him throw 4 balls to Berkman threw him off even more.

Agreed that Brox has not impressed this year. If I didn’t know anything about either of them I would think Cory Wade was better than him.

This team is so damn frustrating

Torre’s fault for bringin Broxton in. Too early for him.

Always something. Either they don’t hit, or the starter sucks, or the BP blows it. I feel sorry for the kid. This team just doesn’t know how to win. That HAS to fall on the manager.

They’ll get better, but I said it back in ST when they’d go out and play like crap – when does Torre instill winning?

I agree with both of you max and enchanted.

Max – if you and I both know that, how does Torre not know that. Its been obvious…Brox can’t put out fires!

Grady is better than F-ing Torre.

The guys will like this one – Chris Snyder – catcher from dbacks (on my fantasy team) was placed on the DL today with left testicular fracture – How about that? That’s one I haven’t heard before.

With a 6 – 1 lead, I’m going to fault Torre for giving this game away as much as the failed relievers. I think he was a batter or two early in taking out Kersh and the same with Kuo, who has been quite effective. But Torre knows his staff better, so we can probably chalk up a loss even when we score 6. Just great, JoJo.

Also, the last time Brox faced Houston he gave up 6 earned in a third of an inning. They obviously have his number. Horrible decision to bring him in there and intentionally walk the tying run.

dback losing 7-1 bottom 4

but of course it’s not Torre’s fault.
.
It’s going to be DY for not catching that ball & Andre’s for almost getting it but missing the homerun ball..
.
And of course we’re probably going to hear something along the lines of IF PIERRE was in LF today that play woulda been owned by him…. but of course we all know his flimpsy arms probably couldnt even reach up that high let alone if he’d even run that far back for the ball..
.

Sucks so bad for Kershaw, way to screeeeeeeeww screw screw it up for him. His whole family was in the stands and standing & clapping when they retired him… it would be nice to win this game & give Kershaw his win!
.

torre made all the wrong decisions with the pitching staff today.. pulled kershaw too early. pulled kuo to early. i know i’m just repeating what you all said, but it’s true. so it needs to be repeated. if we lose, this one goes on the manager.

I think Brox throws to many sliders. Nobody can catch up to his fastball and he has a tendency to hang his slider in big spots.

You have to walk Berkman because he on fire. It wasn’t a bad choice but take Kuo out was.. He should been in over Falkorbarg or however you spell his name.

And now the hitting will go in the tank because they can’t handle the pressure. Someone needs to grab this team by the cajones and squeeze. There’s no fire, only a bunch of deer in the headlights. At some point these kids have to get mad and play with a chip on their shoulder.

Let’s go Martin, Kent & Loney if anything (not Sweeney)

I agree enchanted – taking out Kuo was the wrong move.

I hate when managers put the tying run on base. Sorry shad we disagree on that one man.

The guys will like this one – Chris Snyder – catcher from dbacks (on my fantasy team) was placed on the DL today with left testicular fracture – How about that? That’s one I haven’t heard before.

By dnelly_ae16@sbcglobal.net on July 1, 2008 7:54 PM

It’s just a bad case of “a breaking ball” ???

lol pulling Kershaw was the right move he had 20+ something pitches and his pitch count was 90 and if Grady left him in and he gave up a 3 runs homerun everyone would be on Grady head to have him fire.

And now the hitting will go in the tank because they can’t handle the pressure. Someone needs to grab this team by the cajones and squeeze. There’s no fire, only a bunch of deer in the headlights. At some point these kids have to get mad and play with a chip on their shoulder.

wow i suck at proofing my comments… sorry for double stating some stuff

Sorry, don’t know how that one posted twice.

When does the learning curve end for Brox? This is his third season.

lol rodmky

we lost all momentum after the 7th.

Actually, you could say we lost all momentum after the Wigginton homer.

NP Swood but would you agree if Kuo should been in with runners on 2nd and 3rd instead of Falkoborg? It so hard to defend Torre and I’m not trying too.

listening to Astros announcers and they said their catcher was flown to Memphis and he will stay over for observation.

Throw out that one really bad outing by Brox a few weeks ago and he’s pitched just about the same as always. He’s just no good unless he can start off an inning. Probably not going to be the closer we’re all hoping for after Saito goes.

OMFG U THINK PITCHING WAS BAD TODAY HERE COMES SWEENEY TO LOSE IT FOR US

shad, i say let kershaw handle his own problems for once. 2 on, 2 out, let him finish the inning to make his own mistakes. he may have given up a three run homer, but he also may have gotten the out. but we’ll never know, and the three run bomb was hit anyway..

yea shad i would definately agree on that one. Fact is every move Torre has made this game has turned into disaster.

good at bat loney.. keep battling..

I am not really a fan of Joe Torre the manager.

we could have a winning run but um.. SWEENEY ???????????????????????????????????????/

.

UGH i think i’m going to puke, this frustration is more than I can bear.

Bourne plays a pretty good defensive center field.

it’s a good thing torre pulled the double switch earlier.. or else we woulda seen sweeney for laroche right now =P

OK, so Sweeney’s due…

oops, i spoke too soon.. sweeney anyway.. are you out of your mind torre!!!

My Loney has a first name,
It’s J-A-M-E-S
My Loney has a second name,
It’s L-O-N-E-Y
I love to watch him every day
And if you ask me why I’ll say
‘Cause James Loney has a way
With H-I-T-T-I-N-G!

By leefink and martinloneykemp

.097? THAT’S RIDIC & PATHETIC… TO CALL HIMSELF A BASEBALL PLAYER IS A SHAME TO THE GAME OF BASEBALL. 6 FOR 62. I COULD GET MORE HITS & RUNS WITH A BLINDFOLD ON.

why him?? OMG!!!!!

who’s playing third?

oh nevermind guys.. i’m crazy.. pitcher’s spot.. my bad.. i confused myself even though i knew it was a double switch..

sara – LOL i just read what you said LOL!!!

What a surprise…Lazy popout by Sweeney.

… to retire.

Nomar 2-2 2 runs scored
AJ 2-2 2 RBI’s

AUGHH!!! i knew he wouldn’t produce.. but we get a collision and they still hold on to the ball!!

We can still win this game. Astros ‘pen is shaky at best.

The good thing for Sweeney is no matter if he never gets another hit his BA can never go back to zero.

Sweeney coulda got lucky there if they missed that catch…. & then if Andre got us the out cus all the pressure is all on him… all the negativity would focus on him instead of Sweeney. Glad Sweeney is going for the .50 mark

lol rodmky

maybe our goal this trip is to take out as many Astros as we can – pitcher (yesterday), catcher and now outfielder. We are helping their division very much so right now. LOL!!!!

yeah, dnelly, i lost my mind for a moment.. i promise i understand baseball and what a double switch means

Well we’re getting better – tonight they played 5 1/2 innings of good ball…

FIRE NED. FIRE JOJO.

OH OH for 17.

dnelly- that’s the only thing to make me smile since Kershaw got taken out of the game….

Maza & Berroa suck. I can’t wait till we get Furcal back.

FIRE NED. FIRE JOJO – that’s the only double switch I want to see happen.

Sara – i know you know your baseball – it was the whole Sweeney thing, period, that was funny.

Nice job Beimel

giants 1-0 over cubs.

7-3.. dbacks losing.

We need AROD!!!!!!

another pitching change, REALLY???

swood – furcal is not coming back any time soon – he’s going back onto the DL – still bad back :(

OMG, AZ is coming back! This night is turning into a baseball disaster!

talk about taking out their players… Chan Ho Park is going to come in and karate chop someone now =) woo.!

What? I thought Ferky was coming back on Friday…?

It was announced before the game he was flying back to LA – woke up today with stiffness in his back again. :(

Kent is slow. That play needs to be made.

doode… that kid has the longest skinniest fastest legs ever. Him & Pierre should have a running match see who’s got more speed? maybe we can have a trade there…

Come on Berkman you can end it here!

What? So does that mean hes not coming back on Friday? Whats the timetable for his return?

This is a good matchup .. a HR pitcher V’s a HR hitter

I guess JoJo wants to blow through the entire BP like its a ST game. Come to think of it, they’ve just about all have been ST games for that idiot.

If you cant learn your team in 4 months of watching them, there’s a word for it – Altzheimer’s.

iheartethier.. i would take pence in a heartbeat.. he’s on my fantasy team. very solid player. offensively and defensively.

swood, he’s getting evaluated tomorrow and then they’ll know more..

I bet Furcal has to end up having back surgery and is done for the year. Just my guess he has played his last game in dodger blue!

don’t know how long

Russell is too good for this team. JK, i love my Dodgers and can’t be more proud to have a player like Russell on this team….
.

Andre is coming for the lead off………….. If only he’d hit a homer…. :)

nice, berkman popped up.. good job chanho.. let’s go andre!!

OMG, this is the worst day ever. This means im gonna have to watch Maza and Berroa for the next few months.

enchanted’s pissed now :)

A Furcal at 10% healthy is better than Maza and Berroa.

WOW I’m sure glad to see CHAN HO come through.
I was thinking it was his time to………..But it wasn’t.

I’ve already stated that Torre has alzheimers… ethier that or Pierre’s momma is working magic.
.

UGH, they’re never going to stop higlighting Andre & DY’s missed plays…. blah blah blah….

Wesley Wright sucks. This is a good opportunity.

Wow, how long has Maza been in the majors and thats his first major league double.

they just sayd that since Pierre is going to be on the DL for 4-6 weeks Dodgers are looking for a lead off hitter… ARE YOU F*CKN serious? ew, can’t believe anyone would think he’d make a good lead off..
.
Good one for Maza…

Bad AB by Dewitt. Come on Kemp, win it.

OK, come on DY, win it.

Urgh stupid computer I hate when this blog goes over 150 with my dial up ok Swood sorry I reply to you late.

NP shad

SO FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!!!!

awww I just head people chanting in the background… “lets go dodgers!” I’m thinking it’s Kershaw and Loney’s family….

Yeah sara I saw that on the yahoo box score it had Falkonbarg and Broxton for p in the lineup with no 3rd baseman but I know Dewitt was coming in. Damn Cooper was scare to let Kemp hit.

When I heard bulging disc, I didn’t think that rest and exercise eliminated that problem. I agree with curtis that Raffy is finished for the year, and I would assume as a Dodger.

messagebear – I think we all are thinking that :(

shad, i say let kershaw handle his own problems for once. 2 on, 2 out, let him finish the inning to make his own mistakes. he may have given up a three run homer, but he also may have gotten the out. but we’ll never know, and the three run bomb was hit anyway..

By saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net on July 1, 2008 8:05 PM
Report any abuse or spam

I agree on that one but I don’t want to see him on accident get hurt and last year didn’t Hughes get hurt last year when he got hit by the ball and was on the DL the next day. We do have to remember he’s only 20 yrs old.

Somethings gotta give here. C’mon Martin!

Oh man this is nightmare I wish this wasn’t real.

dnelly – oooh… i thought we took out another one of thier players hhahaha.. that woulda been 4 :)

YES!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG KENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nice going Kent!

I was thinking the same thing :)

UNBELIEVEABLE!!

PRO K E N T #9

Jeff kent is now off my PVL list for now :)
Way to go Jeff in helping your team win this one, hopefully.

Loney? a homerun? for his hometown in front of family & friends to win the game? that would be amaazing.

.

As I’m writing that… he almost had it but fouled.. damn.

Kenttttttttttttt is still the mannnnnnnn.

Time for Saito-San!

Well, at least if he hits the first pitch, he can’t strikeout again.

Saito in for the save….. ooooooooooo.. i love tha guy but I’m a little nervous. Keeping tha faith that it happens!!! :)
.

Kershaw could have his win tonight!!!!!
.

Good one for Kent but still a vet who’s reaching the finish line forsure..

Sammy would like to say something in a few minutes…

We really are as a team hitting the ball well tonight. Kemp, Martin, Kent, Loney, Ethier and Maza have all got at least one hit with either an RBI or a run to go with it. There’s nothing to be ashamed of on their parts tonight. :)

one more out one more out one more out ….bKershaw’s first win!!! Kershaw’s first win!!!!

Nice 2 more buddy.

What does Sammy say everyone???

enchanted – I am looking forward to those words.

Wasn’t pretty. Far from it, but it’s a ‘W.’

Man yahoo box score is crap tonight have Berroa and Maza playing SS that twice that happen.

Phew!!!

Way to go, Sammy!!!
Torre still and always sucks!!!
Should have left Kersh in to get his own last out and get the win.

OMG. YAY FOR KERSHAW !!! : )
.
The winning high fives on the field are soo cute… I think we have the best looking team in baseball :)
.

we get to hear from ndeschenes tonight – yeah!!!!
.
enchanted – where’s jhall? I hope he’s okay – hmmmm?

That was a rather strange game.
But it had a typical Dodger finish.
WE’RE 1-0 IN JULY.

Kent talking about Vets and Young players…. I don’t know what to make of his convo but.. Kershaw is young congrats on his first MLB win! I totally forgot he is only 20! : ) awww…

We can say we are undefeated so far in July – LOL!!!!

Probably out of town nells. I’m sure we’ll hear from him in the next couple days.

iheartaethier16 – Park got the win, not Kershaw – sorry.

Hate to spoil your day iheart but poor bloody Kershaw didn’t get the win .. it went to Park.

First of all I want to thank Super Hero Josh Rawitch For Lettting us know that Our Beloved Year 2008 Team Of Destiny to be Crowned World Champions Los Angeles Dodgers were The Fifth Team to win a game without The Benefit of a Hit! Josh, You certainly are a Super Phenomenal Whirlwind Of Baseball Information!I

enchanted – I think so too, but hearing about jnv being in the hospital makes the mom in me worried. I know he was worried too.

Yes I know but that’s me just saying… given he had stay in a little bit longer & JB didn’t screw it up…. so I still think Kershaw deserved it tonight….

Ok ok.. I get it haha.. thanks to Park & Sammy..

.

But thanks for finally beating the Astros.

Does the “first of all” from ndeschenes mean he’s not done?

Torre’s Stories. There he goes again talking about them Yanks again….
.

I think he’s still thinking its the Brooklyn Dodgers not the L.A. Dodgers…..

The strangest thing is Kershaw hasn’t won a professional game in almost a year.
But he’s been very good during that time.

Snakes lost 8-6.

dbacks lost :)

Damn what about the other 2 paragraph ndeschenes lol.

We think some of our guys are struggling – Justin Upton, one of young players from the dbacks went 1-4 today and is now batting .236. He was above .300 a month ago. So, our guys could be a lot worse off, so hopefully they stay within themselves and they will pull out of this.

shad – I would have to guess ndeschenes is working on his mini essay right now. It’s always a good feeling to hear from ndeschenes rather than the anti-ndeschenes that enchanted can do very well.

Maybe they should had keep Quentin over Upton haha.

Gosh come on Cubs. You guys average over 5+ runs a game and only have 1, Come on Edmonds.

shad, Justin is on my fantasy team and he was doing so well and then crashed. I also have Conner Jackson and Mark Reynolds too. Actually James is my 1st baseman, Jackson is backup, and Reynolds is my 3rd baseman – Dodgers weren’t set at 3rd yet. I also have Chris Snyder the catcher who just went on DL.

Geez I hate when team pulled off a double steal and one of them arew stealing home. Go Theriot 3 runs homerun would be nice.

I love Connor Jackson and I have him on 2 different team.

Gosh I hate making spelling error. I guess you don’t used him as much at OF.

I was using Connor when Loney was going through his slump, but now I kind of go back and forth. Mark Reynolds has been great for me too. My outfield is Ethier, Kemp and Upton which when they are all playing do very well for me.
I have Atlanta pitching which runs hot and cold. I also have Jhonny Peralta for my SS and Mark Ellis is my 2nd baseman – love both of them – multi-tooled.

wow i cant belive this ANRUW JONES 3-3 tonight i dont know if that will mean he will come up here and do great but it does seem like he’s impoving he also hit a home run yesterday things are going up for ANRUW as for FURCAL big dissapointment he had a hurt back again today we are really gonna miss him..

Figured when I read the comments here there would be plenty of hate crimes directed at Torre. I won’t profess superior knowledge…after all, hindsight IS perfect, 20-20 as they say. But when Torre pulled Kershaw with 2 outs I was livid. The TV told the story of how tough Kershaw is with runners in scoring position. And he’d just induced a weak a** grounder back to the box. You think Torre would have lifted Lowe or Penny? No, he’d have given them the “veteran’s benefit of the doubt.” I guarantee if he’d pulled Penny in that situation and a guy two or three days removed from AAA gave up the HR, pasting two more earned runs onto his precious stats (not to mention game-swinging momentum) Penny probably would have gone Chacon on Torre. Just another example of Torre not trusting the kids. I’m sure Joe will spin it that the kid had thrown enough pitches (sorry, only 90) or that he didn’t want to shatter his confidence with a loss (sorry, 5 run lead) or whatever…. COME ON, JOE, GO WITH YOUR BEST! And in the 6th inning, that would have been Kershaw…not Falkenborg.

question. what about if furcal returns but he hits around 250-260 because of injuries. do we still win the division

Ouch Peralta, Eliis, Reynolds and Upton. I just couldn’t bring myself to have those players with that batting average. I know it won’t hurt you much.

Hey guys, just got in, looks like the pen cost The Kid his first win tonight. Too bad, but at least we got the W and we did some RISP work.

nelly, I got an email from jhall on Friday night. Our boy gets around sometimes. Don’t worry, I’m sure he’ll pop in any time now, Mom!

Don’t worry LV is a launching pad so don’t get too excited there,

Peralta has been very good for me lately even when indians played us. He had17 points yesterday and 7 points today. Mark Ellis had 10 points today. Mark Reynolds has gotten the most points for my team so far for the year.

I think Furcal is toast…I’ll bet they recommend surgery sooner than later. And when Nomar tweaks his calf in the next week or two playing shortstop, we’ll be looking at Berroa and Maza for the long haul.

I thought you was playing in a h2h league but I guess you playing in a point league.

LOL! Thank you eric – I was a little worried after hearing about jnv being in the hospital. I knew that if enchanted didn’t know anything – you might. That’s good to hear – it’s weird how the parent instinct kicks in like that :) sigh….
.
The game certainly was eventful – we managed to send their catcher to the hospital after losing their pitcher last night, and we caused a collision in their outfield tonight too. If anything, we banged them up a little bit. And,yes, it was good to see Jeff come through and get one for us. The young players all did really well hitting the ball today. Most of our core got at least one hit with either an RBI or run scored. It was a good hitting night :)

I wouldn’t mind if Dewitt played his natural position at SS so we can keep Dewitt and LaRoche bat in there all the time. When LaRoche need rest we can always played Martin at 3rd and Ardoin can catch. I’m glad Martin is eligibity at 3rd base and it look weird to have him played there for me but never had the chance to do it because I always have one catcher on my team.

shad – this is my first year doing fantasy. I wanted something easy so I could learn the system.

Amazing 7-6 win tonight! Super Heros include Superman Jeff Kent , Russel Martin,Matt Kemp, and James Loney and all the rest of Our Dodgers! World Series Victory, Here We Come!

Bring back this guy and dump Sweeney.

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6332

If they stick DeWitt in at short I’ll need proof positive that Torre is on the trip and not at Juan’s bedside. Hmmmm…….

Kemp CF
Ethier RF
Loney 1B
Martin C
Kent 2B
Young LF
LaRoche 3B
DeWitt SS

I see not a bad choice.

ndeschenes – thank you for your posts tonight. This game must have left you speechless like I am sure some of us still are. Most of us had pretty much figured we wouldn’t be hearing from you at all after the 7th inning. Luckily Jeff had one extra hit in him tonight. Take care and hopefully our beloved Dodgers will win for us tomorrow. Have a wonderful evening and a fabulous tomorrow :)

wouldn’t that be the best lineup – wow!!! Not that it would be an overnight thing, but it definitely has long term potential.

shad, isn’t it amazing how that lousy BA of Hillenbrand’s last year is almost 3 times better than that anchor that Sweeney is dragging along behind him?

Hahahahaha good one Eric. What happen to this guy? There your lead off hitter but he’s doesn’t get many walk either. I also rather hiave him over Sweeney.

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7384

Come on Kershaw and Park deserve there own posted instead of the rest.

Yep and I bet he could’ve done a way better job than Sweeney.

I said this a couple of days ago if Marlon and Sanez had 49 AB’s as a PH I bet they would hit over .200. I think Marlon could had around 20 hits. I can’t believe we let Marlon go.

I guess that lineup’s expiration date is when the next PVL comes off the DL (now that we know it won’t be Furcal)
and then it’s a matter of which is going to hurt you less versus help you more. :)

We sure have had alot of posts since the new thread came out (over 400) and we have to get through to tomorrow’s lineup.

I notice someone said it was Park bday yesterday but it was also Young bday too. I can’t believe Josh didn’t posted neither one bday

When was the last time we had someone sharing a bday and only the 25 men roster at the same time.

oops only=on

i had to split for a softball game, and as i listened on the radio during my drive i heard the call on kent’s homer! yeah kent! that is clutch~ it was exciting.. at first i was worried that steiner was over-exaggerating (as he tends to do) and that it would be caught, but then he said it went out.. and i was yelling in my car! i’m sure it looked silly :)

dnelly, i think you’ll enjoy this..

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/pgStory?contentId=8304240#sport=MLB&photo=8303792

safe to say, russell wouldn’t make that list!

There were quite a few June Birthdays that were overlooked I believe – Broxton 16th,Lowe 1st,CPH 30th, Maza 22nd, Young 30th.
.
July Bdays – Ardoin 8th, Kuo 23rd, Billz 29th

How was your softball game?

sara – none of our guys would look good in any of those LOL!!

my softball game was great.. thanks for asking.. we’re 11-0, and next week is the last game so we’re hoping to finish undefeated..

Wow – that’s great!!! you must have a manager who know’s what they are doing. LOL!!!

haha, yeah dnelly.. he’s put together a good team.. and he doesn’t send mixed messages.. and all the rookies play all the time too!

Isn’t it amazing that in every aspect of life, this kind of management wouldn’t be tolerated. And to think these people are getting paid thousands and millions of dollars to do that same thing that most of us are called on to do just because it is our job and it’s usually not worth what we are getting paid.

Here’s my take on the whole Furcal injury thing:

My guess is it’s not minor. Why would he go back to LA if it was minor? He has a bulging disc in his lumbar spine. It’s a debilitating injury. (look up the word: debilitate) I’ve been around x-ray facilities and have seen many injuries of this type and have seen their follow-ups. They usually don’t go very well. Sometimes they have ended Major League careers depending how severe they are. Remember, this is the second time Furcal has injured the SAME area and, he did it only eight months apart from one another.

Now, I’m not an expert on the subject but, I do know a few things having been in the field before. The fact that he’s played a few games after this latest injury is amazing. He probably has what is called a “lumbar disc hernia”. Ask your doctor what that means. He’ll tell you it’s no fun at all. It’s basically a “popped” bulging disc… this is bad, bad, bad. He probably had a bulging disc before and maybe it popped from all those spectacular diving stops and amazing twisting throws that he made.

If after all this latest rehab he’s been on doesn’t work, he’ll probably have to eventually have the surgery. It involves shaving the herniated/bulged portion of the disc to relieve the impingement of the nerve that’s causing him the pain. The rehab isn’t very comfortable.

So if after surgery and a new round of rehab, even by next spring, he may only be a shell of his former self. Then it may be career over. He’ll be lucky to just enjoy life pain free. I’m not exaggerating this… really. People think this is something he can just take a pill with or do core strengthening exercises with or whatever and then he’ll be okay. I only wish this were the case.

Again, I’m no expert, but this is the worst-case scenario and could likely happen. It’s heading in that direction.

From Steve Henson’s column “Pass out the midterm report cards” on Yahoo Sports. Dodgers got a D+
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AhRDKlOp0aAKYJX.T4aKcAc5nYcB?slug=sh-midseasongrades070108&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

“The vaunted young talent is developing as expected, but the veterans acquired for obscene sums of money to complement the kids have been huge disappointments.”

kssparkuhl, sounds very sad, indeed…I feel your suspicions are correct.

James Anthony Loney made #2 on the list for ESPN’s plays of the day. Very Cool!!!

kpookiemon – I think that is the first time I have seen anything negative said about our vets in a long time. It’s kind of sad we a sharing company with our rivals, the gnats. This should make for an interesting match up this weekend. :)

Besides all the birthdays noted, it was also Honeycutt’s bday on 6/29.
.
Great win Boys in Blue! Yes, it would have been great to have Kershaw get his first win but the kid can handle it. A friend told his mom is a teacher.
.
Also our super-man Jeff Kent came thru! Woohoo! Jeff also has his family in Texas (Austin). He said he had a lot of people there and he was waiving at someone after he rounded the bases. I have Jeff in both my teams from Diamondsforwomen and InsideDodgerblog. I am in the battle of the top 2 in both leagues this week. Good luck Scott :-). On the DFW, I was debunked from 1st by a Ray’s fan. Well, good luck to her also (Batting Lashes).
.
kssparkuhl,
That sure is bad news on Raffy. Is such a shame. There are just too many injuries happening on this team. It just seems like a curse.
.
Not surprise that we get a D minus on that midterm report posted.

BTW… I’m not about to check 420 posts tonight… but am I the only one who noticed that Andy LaRoche was swinging at some seriously HIGH pitches tonight???

I mean, he wonders why he’s not hitting in the big leagues after three years? It’s because he offers at pitches like that! All night long! The guy hits AAA pitching like they were little leaguers, yet he comes to the bigs and can’t seem to find the handle.

And would somebody please fill Joe Torre in on the fact that Blake DeWitt has a .288 average against left handed pitching?

You do realize that doesn’t mean nothing. Look at his overall batting average that would tell the story.

Dewitt need to go back batting 8th so he can have better pitches to hit in front of the pitcher.

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8209/situational;_ylt=AldWCU3XrE4_BnVPWk5hyKOFCLcF

He’s batting .283 on the road .235. and in June .182. The guy is stuggling big time.

With Furcal apparently out for the season, it’s time for us to get serious about a shortstop.
.
Someone mentioned using Blake DeWitt at short. As a gap-filler until Furcal came back I like the idea. But as a long-term solution the idea is a non-starter.
.
Obviously, Maza and Berroa are not the answer ever, and Hu isn’t the answer this year. DeJesus has played less than 200 professional games and in reality probably isn’t any more ready than Hu. Gotta give the kids a chance to develop. (Obviously not as long as certian managerial types insist on, but some time).
.
That means we need to look around the existing major league shortstops to see:
1) Who’s available?
2) Who among those is a good shortstop?
.
We can start by eliminating pretty much any starting shortstop on a contending team; contenders don’t trade away shortstops.
.
That leaves starters from: Washington (Cristian Guzman), Houston (Tejada), Cincinatti (Keppinger/Hairston), Pittsburgh (Jack Wilson), Baltimore (Nobody), Toronto (Eckstein), Kansas City (Mike Aviles), Cleveland (Jhonny Peralta), and Seattle (Yuniesky Betancourt). I could eliminate half the NL West too but until somebody starts playing like a champ, it’s still anybody’s division.
.
Any decent backups available? Arguably the Angels could let Maicer Izturis or Erick Aybar go.
That’s about it.

Not worth considering: Aviles, Eckstein
Not likely to be available due to small contract/young age: Betancourt, Izturis, Aybar, Keppinger, and Peralta
.
That leaves Cristian Guzman, Miguel Tejada, Jerry Hairston Jr., and Jack Wilson. We need to go after one of these four guys.
.
Tejada is clearly the best of these, and by far the most expensive at $13 million/yr thru 2009.
.
Guzman has been a pretty good player most of the time in his career. Due $4.2 million/yr thru 2009. Injured much of last year and seems unable to play a full season.
.
Jerry Hairston Jr. is only any good by comparison to Berroa and Maza. Less than $1 million/yr and worth it.
.
Jack Wilson is a good-fielding shortstop with below-average but respectable offensive numbers. He’s hitting .313 so far this year but on balance over the last several years he can be expected to hit around .270 -.300 for the balance of this year. Good for about 40 extra-base hits a year. Way overpaid at about $7 million/year.
.
Tejada would be a nice pickup, but expensive especially in terms of the personnel we would have to send back to Houston. I imagine they would want something like Kershaw, LaRoche, and Hu.
.
Guzman would be a good pickup to fill the gap until Hu/DeJesus is ready. Would probably cost something like LaRoche and two pretty good prospects.
.
Hairston is barely off my list of “Not Worth Considering”. Could be as cheap as one very good or two good prospects.
.
Jack Wilson, like Guzman, would fill the gap nicely until Hu/DeJesus is ready. Could probably be had for relatively cheap because I gotta believe the Pirates want to unload his contract although the contract price may be somewhat mitigated by his popularity with Pirates fans. He could maybe be had for one very good prospect and a couple of decent prospects.
.
Anyway, we MUST do SOMETHING at shortstop. The in-house answers (with the possible but unlikely exception of DeJesus) are a major drag on our team.
.
Of course I personally favor local product Jack Wilson (Westlake Village), a three-time nominee for the Roberto Clemente service award (See here: http://tinyurl.com/58yazo) and a guy who plays the game 110% the right way.

Decent shortstops are a rare commodity. Here are the FAs after this season:

Orlando Cabrera (34)
David Eckstein (34)
Adam Everett (32)
Rafael Furcal (31)
Cristian Guzman (31)
Cesar Izturis (29)
Felipe Lopez (29)
Edgar Renteria (33) – $11MM club option for ’09 with a $3MM buyout
Juan Uribe (30)
Omar Vizquel (42) – $5.2MM club option for ’09 with a $0.3MM buyout

See anyone you like?? Hahahahahahahaha!!!

In house alternatives: Hu, DeJesus, Rex Rundgren (great song possibilities here – Hello [dad] Its Me), Christian Lara

Think MLK’s onto something with Wilson, at least until Hu or DeJesus are ready.

“Playing with the enthusiasm with our younger kids later in the game, sometimes that’s neat,” Kent said.

As he talked, Kent’s three young sons, who live in Texas, raced around the clubhouse, which might have reminded Kent of his teammates.

“As the game wears on, gets past the ninth, you see some of these guys in here with more intensity,” he said with a smile. “Reminds me of the days I used to have that too.”

.
Other than the middle comment about his kids acting like some of the players on the team, this is one of the most positive things that Kent has said about his teammates in a long time. It sounds like there was a glimpse of Jeff actually having fun playing the game.

I agree with kssparkuhl’s dire assessment about Furcal’s condition, and I have suspected all along that nothing short of surgery would fix the problem. Even then the outcome is uncertain at best. Since he’s in the last year of his contract, it’s understandable that we don’t want to foot the bill for that surgery with no benefit to the team at the end. If reasonable minds prevailed, they should extend Furcal’s contract for an additional year at no additional pay, but maybe with some incentives added, let Furcal have his surgery immediately at our expense, and see how his recovery and rehabilitation fares for next season. Then at the end of next season he can have his free agency. In the absence of some solution such as that, I don’t see how anything will result either to our benefit or to Raffy’s. Of course, Boras may not agree.

In the meantime, I don’t see that there is help for us at shortstop through trade or free agency. Even though DeJesus has limited professional experience, I understand that he’s good defensively, and he conceivably could hit better than .250 with the Dodgers. So, I don’t see what’s to lose. We certainly need to get rid of Berroa, because even Maza could hit that .250 mark. Let’s also see what Nomar can do at short for fill-in the rest of this season.

LaRoche or Dewitt don’t have the range to play shortstop.
Maybe Nomar can fill in that spot, but even then his body is so fragile that he would be hesistant on tough plays.

I fear Nomore will break again inside of two weeks, but I noticed that Angel Chavez is doing OK at AAA. Berroa just needs to be gone and take Sweeney with him. If those aren’t the two guys cut when Jones and Nomar get back, then there’s something seriously wrong with management.

Oh wait, there is.

Good Morning Dodger Blue Fans!
Another nail biting game to say the least, but at least it ended with a win for the Dodgers. I was looking at stats from around our division and our young players are doing pretty good compared to how some of their young counterparts on other divisional teams are doing. So, as long as they keep hanging in there and don’t let the media get a negative hold on them, I think they will do what we know they are capable of doing. Yesterday was hopefully a good turning point for them to not let up and keep up the momentum.
.
This song is a continuation of the Pierre/Torre love issue, and it was probably more appropriate for the day after JP went on the DL. However, Torre is probably really missing JP now that there is a very slim to no chance that Furcal is coming back any time soon.

Song: Torre’s Yesterday
Original Song: Yesterday
by The Beatles
.
Yesterday, all Joe’s troubles seemed so far away
Now, it looks as though they’re here to stay
Oh, Joe believes in yesterday
.
Suddenly, Juan’s not half the man he used to be
Aybar’s shadow’s hanging over him
Oh, yesterday came suddenly
.
Why Juan had to go
Joe won’t know, Stan wouldn’t say
Juan said, “Something’s wrong”
Now Joe longs for yesterday
.
Yesterday, baseball was so easy to play
Now Joe needs to play Matt and ‘Dre
Oh, Joe believes in yesterday
.
Why Juan had to go
Joe won’t know, Stan wouldn’t say
Juan said, “something’s wrong”
Oh, Joe believes in yesterday

Yesterday, baseball was so easy to play
Now Joe needs to play Matt and ‘Dre
Oh, Joe believes in yesterday

To update you on the Astros catcher, Quintero; he was placed on the 15 day DL. The CT scan came back negative, but they are keeping him for observations.

good morning, enchanted !
I’m glad you put that last line in there “Oh wait, there is”. You were starting to think sane again, and you know until they do something that isn’t totally idiotic, they can’t have the title of normal.

Morning nells! Good song – think Joe feels that way about all his vets. Joe never met a vet he didn’t like. Did you get me email last night?

enchanted ~just to show you we are not the only ones who think this way. This is from the Blog “Son’s of Steve Garvey” and it is posted by none other than Steve Sax himself. So, we are not the only ones who think Torre has a few screws loose (well alot of ) LOL!!!

Unchosen Alternatives to “Torre’s Stories”

Those of you outside the Los Angeles area don’t get a chance to see the post-game show, “Dodgers Live,” which regularly includes the segment “Torre’s Stories.” Torre’s Stories is a pre-taped segment in which he reflects and pontificates about some of the past highlights of his long baseball career.

Cute name for the segment, right? Well, we at SoSG saw a copy of the memo listing some of the alternatives which were rejected in favor of this nightly segment:

Torre’s Quarries, a live post-game segment in which Torre tries to defend his rock-headed decision to keep going to Mark Sweeney as a pinch-hitter on a nightly basis, despite Sweeney’s microscopic batting average (now .095 and continuing to plummet like a stone). Filled with a lot of stuttering, trite cliches, and slo-mo recaps of Sweeney turning 3-1 pitches into pop-ups to the second baseman.

Torre’s Lorries, in which Torre takes the interviewer through his collection of British motor trucks. Also ties in with Fox’s unyielding NASCAR promotions and interstitials.

Torre’s Gorys, where Torre recaps some of the battle scars he’s amassed during his baseball career. Includes videos from some of his operations, and maybe the occasional annual physical. “Using the whole fist there, doc?”

Torre’s Floories, more of a home-improvement show done as a joint venture with HGTV. Idea becomes shelved when the housing market follows the trajectory of Mark Sweeney’s batting average (see above).

Torii’s Stories. No, getting Andruw Jones in center field killed that idea. Aren’t we stoked.

Labels: Joe Torre

haven’t checked, but will – thanks :)

enchanted – yes, I know what you are talking about -sent e-mail thanks :)

Hey everyone. How’s it been going? Computer went belly up and I had to go out of town Monday so couldn’t get repairs till yesterday. I see alot has been happening while I was out with a virus. LOL!! Thanks for your concern. It is good to be back on line. Wow, it is really strange not having a computer. I see we got our Pierre piano. LOL!!

jhall – Thank goodness – oh wow!!!! I was beginning to panic – ask your buddies. I am glad you are okay :)

Here’s another one from Sons of Steve Garvey – see we think like they do, and it doesn’t seem to be a bad thing.
LOL!!

Stan Conte Must Still Work for the Giants

Yes, I’m a conspiracy theorist. But even I was surprised it took me so long to figure this out. Dodger Trainer Stan Conte must still be working for the Giants, as there is no possible way to otherwise explain how the Dodgers’ roster has more holes in it than Mark Sweeney’s bat collection. The signs are right in front of us.

From the Dodgers’ own site, here’s the list of Dodgers that have hit the disabled list in 2008, along with their 2008 salaries (asterisk indicates games missed, though not a formal DL listing):

Andruw Jones, $14M ($9M salary + $5M signing bonus)
Rafael Furcal, $13M
Jason Schmidt, $12M
Jeff Kent, $9M *
Brad Penny, $8.75M
Nomar Garciaparra, $8.5M
Juan Pierre, $8M
Hidoki Kuroda, $5M
Takashi Saito, $2M *
Scott Proctor, $1.1M
Gary Bennett, $0.9M
Yhency Brazoban, $0.5M
Jonathan Broxton, $0.5M *
Matt Kemp, $0.4M *
Tony Abreu, $0.4M
Andy LaRoche, $0.4M
Blake DeWitt, $0.4M

So, accounting just for the players who have officially hit the disabled list, the Dodgers have had a total of $73M out of the lineup, or roughly 61% of the team’s entire $118M payroll. Accounting for the players who have sat with injuries and NOT hit the official DL, that total goes up to $85M, or 72% of the payroll.

This is simply amazing. Conte is inflicting maladies up and down the Dodgers’ lineup.

Thanks Nelly. Appreciate the thoughts from you and the gang. I think I am going to get a cheap backup computer. It bites not having one.

Eric and E, thanks for the e-mails. I am just now sorting thru my e-mails from the last 2 days.

Sweet win last night. Bullpen imploded again. That would have been a tough one to let get away. Glad they found a way to pull it out. D-Backs keep losing. All we need is a decent month and we’ll be in first place.

jhall ~ enchanted and eric will be glad you are back – not the same for them I’m sure. We had to rescue enhanted a few times during these last few days due to his continuing desent into the deep end, but once Pierre went on the DL, he has been much better (songs tell the story). He is just trying to figure out our incompetent management team – LOL
.
and yes, it sucks not having a computer :)

Great song Nelly!!!!! One of my favorites.

LOL!! Phew to the DL does have a tonic effect. I gave up trying to figure out our management. Geez!!!!

jhall – jnv will also be glad you are back on – he had been in the hospital for some time due to heart problems and that’s what started the inquiries about you :) last night eric said you were okay :)

Not the old heart. The old hard drive. LOL. Thanks JNV. Glad your doing well.

enchanted and eric started the whole love song thing (with many others taking their lead), and it’s pretty amazing how a bunch of guys can come up with some pretty impressive love songs, which happen to be funny as hell LOL!!

I’ll check out Eric’s site and catch up on the songs. It takes awhile to go back through this blog.

I see you all have been having fun with the counter culture if you know what I mean. LOL!!!!

Oh yes!! LOL!! picking on me too – hmmmm!!!

Mom taking the heat for all us brats. LOL!!!!

LMAO!!! probably true LMAO!!!

Wow, incredible songs from everyone. Outstanding!!®. You all have been busy.

jhall – you would have thought we would let up on JP, but it’s actually gotten worse, but way too much fun not to stop. We do have a new blogger on site (Amy) who is a JP fan, but it looks like she is taking it in stride so far. She is a big Matt Kemp fan so we are trying to focus on that aspect instead lol! :)

LOL!! Welcome Amy. Yep, until Phew turns into Grady Sizemore, he is toast around here. LMAO!!!!

I see where Ferk had another setback. I think he is done for the year. Gonna need the surgery. I’m hoping Nomore can come back and stay healthy. Never thought I would utter those words but Berroaiza makes me ill.

Fat chance that will happen LOL!! If JP can change into Grady, then maybe he can change into Matt Holliday, too – LOL!!!

Need to change Sweeney into anything but what he is now. LOL!! Like retired. Would be the best place to start.

Berroa’s new name is Aw Hell (Angel) Berroaiza thanks to PierreEW – LOL!!

LOL!!! Appropriate.

The Sweeney thing is just plain sad, period. How can a manager do that to a team, player and himself. Every blog site thinks the same exact thing.

Welcome back jhail!

I have to give the Press-Enterprise’s Diamond Leung some credit for pointing this out: “Kemp … entered Tuesday with a .331 on-base percentage that was four points higher than Pierre’s …”
.
On the other hand Tony Jackson who wrote a long article in The O.C. Register highlighting Jason Repko’s struggles Monday night as leadoff man and continued to bash Repko in today’s Daily News, had only this to say about Matt Kemp as leadoff man: “Kemp’s .331 on-base percentage and rate of striking out once every 3.8 plate appearances hardly made him an ideal candidate to hit there, but he did begin the day with 16 stolen bases.”
.
Jackson did cite a sort-of half-negative quote from Joe Torre, but I’m going to give JoJo a pass on this one because I don’t know if he said it before or after last night’s game.
.
Meanwhile, I can’t find any of the newspaper reporters who pointed out this fact: MATT KEMP GOT ON BASE THREE TIMES IN TUESDAY’S GAME. Nor anyone who pointed out that Juan Pierre only got on base three times in a game on four occasions during his 48-game tenure as the leadoff hitter. (This does not take into account getting on base due to error or by forcing anotther guy out. I don’t have enough time to do that kind of research.)

Thanks ML. Good info.

MLK – thanks for pointing that out about Kemp, and they really need to give Repko some time to get adjusted. Come on – look how much time they are giving to Sweeney, but then Repko is not proven vet. Also, I posted the James Loney song twice during last night’s game – he had a great night – #2 play of the day on the caught pop-up bunt.

I guess maybe I might have been a little tired last night and didn’t say it like it really is. (see 11:43 PM) If Furcal has the surgery, IMO, in all likelyhood, his career is finished. He’ll be lucky just to enjoy life pain-free. The common thread among all these types of injuries, the next day, “I couldn’t get out of bed…” or “…my wife had to help me out of bed” or “…the pain was unbearable”, to which Raffy had originally mentioned all of the above. Nerve impingements of this nature suck the life out of even the best of athletes.

It’s kryptonite in the face of Superman and, unfortunately our Superman is Rafael Furcal. I’m afraid his career may be coming to a screeching halt. If he comes back from this, it will be a miracle indeed.

I agree with the above post. We need to start thinking more long term for the remainder of the season with regard to our shortstop position, regardless if Raffy has the surgery or not. He’s being stubborn and it’s not healing that quickly. We can’t wait as long as he can. We miss you Raffy… we need you… but you’re a wounded super-hero. We need to move on without you right now. Get well soon buddy!

Loney’s play was sweet!! Maybe one of Loney’s names should be G-L-O-V-E.

Totally agree KSpark!! I’m not very optimistic about Ferk coming back this year or at all. S*cks for him and I wish him well.

The Sweeney situation is really pathetic, and it shows Torre’s intransigence and outright stupidity in keeping up his useless experiment. I can’t really put the blame on Sweeney anymore for not being able to hit, except that he should know better and simply retire. Can anybody imagine JoJo getting away with what’s he’s done with Sweeney in New York? There have to be any number of better alternatives than a pinch hitter at under .100 with the number of AB’s that Sweeney has been given. If he isn’t gone whenever we need to open up a roster spot for anybody else, then clearly Torre should be GONE. Of course, many of us have maintained the latter position for quite a while.

Well said Bear. Sweeney has to know he is hurting the team. It is an even bigger disservice that JoJo knows it and won’t acknowledge it.

Sure would be helpful if Hu can find his bat in AAA.

Outstanding!!® ML.

Thanks, jhail. I love The Bison and if he keeps leading off like he did last night, let’s go ahead and leave him there for the rest of the year. He’s really a natural 3-hole guy, but that can wait a year.

Terrific MLK!!

Welcome back jhall!!

Regarding Sweeney, it’s also what might’ve been. If JoJo bats anyone instead of Sweeney and they hit at even a .250 clip, what might’ve happened in those games with 9-10 extra hits that Sweeney didn’t get? JoJo’s quick to blame the kids, but he should look in the mirror to see why it is we’re really a sub .500 team.

I also have said this before, but if it takes DFAing guys like Sweeney and Berroa to keep JoJo the Clown from using them, then Ned needs to have his balls drop and do it for the good of the team. Sweeney and Berroa aren’t the future of this team anyway, so why lolligag around?

LMAO E!! Thanks. You know that Frank, Ned, and JoJo just have one ‘nad between them that they pass around. It never seems to be where it is needed however. LOL!!!

I think they better let Ned have the nad for the rest of July until the danger has passed of some two-balled GM bullying him out of one or more of our young studs for a PVL.

Aw hell jhall, none of the three know what to do with it when its their turn…

LMAO guys!! They’ve been playing dodge ball with it. LOL!!

I found what I thought was a stray pea on my kitchen floor. I guess I better send it back to the Three Stooges right away.

Now THAT wat PIYP funny MLK!!

LMFAO ML!! It could also be any one of them’s brain. LOL!!

WE NEED TO TRADE ETHIER ALREADY WHILE HIS VALUE IS STILL HIGH COMMON 269 BATTING AVARAGE AND YOU GUYS THINK HE’S BETTER THEN MATT HOLLIDAY WE NEED MATT HOLLIDAY IN THAT LINEUP ETHIER JUST ISNT CUTTING IT MATT HOLLIDAY IS BATTING 337 WITH A 422 ON BASE PERCENTAGE TRACE ETHIER AND LAROCHE FOR HOLLIDAY WHILE THEIR VALUE IS STILL HIGH RIGHT NOW THEIR VALUE IS DROPPING WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING FAST

Holliday would be a great acquisition but I think the Rocks will be asking for too much, especially from us.

i dont know what makes you think the rockies wuold even thinkn about that trade

Alright, boys and girls. I’m going back to the grind. Hopefully, eric and a couple others will come out to play soon and dnelly will have her hands full reigning y’all in.

Welcome back JHall, glad to see everything back to normal around here.

Eduardosoto…It has been pointed out many times that Holiday is not the masher we are looking for, he doesn’t hit outside of Coors Field.

As for Torre, he is a complete TOOL!!! why would he take out Kersh in the sixth when everyone knows he is nails with runners in scoring postion??? And Falkenborg is a never has been vet…..Oh I just answered my own question!!! LOL

plus they’re in our division…there is no way they would make that deal

LOL!! Thanks JNV.

Also Torre putting Sweeny in to hit in the 9th with the game on the line, He should be commited to a asylum for that move!!! LOL
UNACCEPTABLE (Thanks JHALL)

eduardosoto, the rockies will not trade their franchise player within the division, especially for a couple of guys who have underperformed this year. has anybody heard about ethan martin’s status with the dodgers? i haven’t seen that we’ve signed him yet :(

Rocks are starting to heat up and play better. In this division they are still in the thick of it. I can’t see them trading Holliday.

Well said JNV!!! LOL!!!

ROCKIES ALREADY SAID THEY WOULD CONSIDER IT IF THE ASKING PRICE IS RIGHT BUT KEMP AND LONEY ARE DEFINETLY UNTOUCHABLE

Good morning ITD boys and girls…
IT’S GREAT TO SEE YOU BACK JHALL!!! WE’VE ALL MISSED YOU!!!

magic asked the question yesterday, “Who gets send down tomorrow when kuroda is activated?” I haven’t heard; does anyone know? I mean, Kuroda was on the DL and, thus, someone had to have taken his place on the roster when he originally went down, right? So now that he’s coming back up, who is going down?

Kpookiemon, that midterm report card article is very telling. Telling that the Dodgers still have a lot to do…

About Broxton, he does NOT do well coming into a game in the middle of an inning. If Torre would just stick with bringing him in at the top of an inning, then he’s better. Beimel is better candidate to come into a game in the middle of an inning.

MLK, I’ve been thinking about a replacement SS now that Raffy is down and I’m with everyone else here, down for the rest of the year if not for his career. You had your compelling names that could be picked up. Actually, my vote is for Tejada. Yes, he’d be expensive but the amount of $ that the Dodgers need to shed to bring anyone in doesn’t seem to faze them; I don’t think they would flinch at Tejada’s $ price tag. After Quintero went down yesterday (and oh, I feel sooooo bad for him right now) Charlie & Lyons said (and I’m paraphrasing here), “So who’s going to be their (Houston’s) catcher, long term?” I know Houston needs a young catcher (and no, I’m not talking about Russ Martin). But Lucas May might be a possibility. He’s young (only 23) and he’s a good catcher, from what I understand. If May stayed within the Dodger’s organization, he would never play since Russ is here to stay and he’s still young too. I think Houston also could use relief pitchers. We could include Falkenborg in the package. I don’t think we want to part with Wade. He’s the type of pitcher that the Dodgers don’t have many of; a pitcher that’s not afraid of going inside to hitters. Yes, I also think this kind of trade would need to include another one of our younger players, perhaps one that is in the majors now, but I say if that player (and no, I don’t want to think of who that is right now) is playing in a defensive position that there would be a good backup from AAA, then I would still do it.

Tejada isn’t hitting like his old, ‘roid days but he’s not stinking it up either. Here are his current stats:
http://houston.astros.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=123173

No, Tejada is no lead-off hitter, so that would need to be addressed, but not by trading anyone; just shuffle the lineup a bit. I wouldn’t mind seeing Loney in the top spot – he still hits for a good average. Although Matty didn’t do too badly yesterday. That’s my take, IMHO.

YEA THERE REALLY HEATING UP THATS WHY THERE 2-8 THEIR LAST 10 GAMES WOW THATS SCARY FIRST PLACE COMING UP FOR THE ROX RIGHT

WRONG!!!

I think if Kemp, Loney, Dewitt, Brox, Kersh, Bills, Martin or Ethier are traded There will be anarchy, Not to mention completely stupid!! there is no one out there that is worth giving up the future for.

if holliday is as great as you think he is, why would the rockies even care to get rid of him. no one is going to be on your side about this.. it is NOT an ideal move..

dnelly, you beat me to posting the kent comments at the end of the la times article. i was going to say how it’s the first decent thing he’s said about the kids in a LONG time..

eduardo, relax on the caps. Also, are you Holliday’s agent, or just dislike Ethier?

HAHAHA I JUST DISLIKE ETHIER I MEAN HE IS A GREAT FIELDER BUT I DONT SEE HIM BEING A REAL THREAT AT THE PLATE

ALOT OF TEAMS ARE GETTING INTEREST FOR MATT HOLLIDAY I HEARD THE ANGELS THE REDSOX THE CARDINALS THE RAYS AND THE DODGERS SO HE IS VALUEABLE THIS DEADLINE

Ned’s already addressed our SS problem, he got us Berroa. I’m sure right now he’s looking for a speedy outfielder-type for the top of the order, you know like Corey Patterson or Willy Tavares.

Thanks CP!! Great post.
The Rocks will make a run in this division. They worry me more than the G’nats or Puds.

eduardo, is your caps lock key stuck???

Duh, certainly he is valuable at the deadline. There are scads of players that are valuable at the deadline and would get interest from the aforementioned list of usual suspects. That doesn’t mean it makes sense or that the asking price will be reasonable.

thx jhall! I’m no expert but something must be done long-term with SS. Forget Raffy’s injury and how long will it take him to recover (if he ever does). It’s his contract year and I really don’t see the Dodgers resigning him after 2008. So SS would need to be addressed anyways. His injury is just pushing it up a few months. And enchanted, I hope you’re kidding me about Berroa being Ned’s answer to our SS problem.

And, yes, I do see the Rox making a run in this division. The Pads have been out of it for a long time. The gnats are doing slightly better in the division than I thought, but I think that’s more because the snakes and the D’s (up to now) haven’t run away with the division.

He is great all around, but is not great outside Coors Field. With Dodger Stadium being a pitcher’s park, Andre is still pretty close to Holliday. Only 3 less homeruns, 7 less RBI, 10 less K’s. And Andre is in and out of the lineup so often, how can he get any consistency? I agree Holliday would be a great pickup, but at what price? And that would then leave us with an outfield of Pierre, Andruw, and Holliday. Do you leave Kemp on the bench?

enchantedsunset@hotmail.com

Willy Taveras are u kidding me you guys are always complaining about juan pierre and u want taveras he’s batting 251 with a horrible 299 on base percentage that would be outrage for this ballclub

but I must give props where it’s due. Lincecum is a terrific young pitcher!

Eduardo, teams like the Angels, Cardinals and Rays would be the types of teams that would go for Holliday because they actually have a chance to win this year and he could put them over the top. We get Holiiday and what do we have?? We have Holliday. This team has many more issues than one person can fix. Even if we play .600 ball the second half of the year, that’s only 87 wins. Good enough for the West? Probably. But no way this team makes it past the first round even with Holliday. Plus Ethier I believe is capable of putting up Dusty Baker type numbers if he plays consistently and isn’t jerked around by JoJo.

No pierre wouldnt start trust me joe torre is stupid but not that stupid to play pierre over kemp and matt holliday is batting 337 and ethier is batting 269 so there is a big difference in avarage and matt has missed his at bats also

eduardo – Tavares and Patterson are sarcasm.

He is stupid enough to say that Kemp and Ethier would platoon once Andruw and Pierre are back.

ok your acting lyk the dodgers are 10 games back there only 2 1/2 games back we have a chance and maybe we can get lucky in the playoffs who knows what we can do in the second half

I’d stick with Andre!!!! Well said E!!! When Fat Andruw comes back we need to let that scenario play out. Our power outage is what Ned the Furter got him for. Now it is time to produce. If not, well, another of Ned’s blunders. Hopefully Frank will wise up and fire Ned soon.

Jhall,

The Puds and Gnats are done and the Rocks won’t make it either, last year was a miracle and miracles don’t happen to often and the Dbacks are playing horribly. The only one we have to beat is Torre and Ned.

yeah, but we’re saying they can get lucky in the playoffs without holliday just as much as they could with holliday. one player does not make the world of difference, and we’re not close enough to being a good team that we should start trading away parts of the future.

I think the Rocks have a run in them. Certainly won’t be like last years miracle run, but this year in this division, it doesn’t have to be anywhere close. 83 wins will probably take the division.

I do think ned is going to get a hitter though he is on the hot seat right now hes scared to lose his job frank already said if we go out losing this season then Ned’s gone for good

Well said Sara!!!

Where did you hear that Eduardo? I haven’t seen that anywhere. I hope it is accurate.

yeah eduardo, I haven’t heard that about Frank/Ned, but I sure hope it’s true…

eduardo, i don’t think ned’s trying as hard as you think he is.. remember that he got andruw jones because he felt he was the answer.. and right now, i’m sure he’s all focused on andruw’s rehab numbers because that would be the best option. then he doesn’t have to make another bad decision. i promise they won’t decide do anything until andruw comes back up.

Pretty much any team that gets hot for 3-4 weeks can/will take the division. But with JoJo calling the shots, its like jnv said, we have to beat JoJo AND the other teams in the division, and JoJo’s the bigger of the two obsticals.

well, gotta go. I’ll catch up with y’all later…

Go Dodgers!

Have a great day CP!!

Nels is having a hard time getting on, so I’m her surrogate poster:

“I can’t get on ITD – I can read, but can’t post – power went out so every is super super slow. Tell the board Nelly’s pissed :) need to leave Andre alone!!! LOL!!!”

OK I paraphrased a bit :)

I bet after last nights hitting and scoring Torre changes the line up. I mean 7 runs is to much for him, and I am sure Martin didn’t get it last night!!! LOL he probably swung at the wrong pitch when he hit his home run so I am sure he will get a talking to today and Ardoin will play for him…… Just you watch!!!

I read a quote on fox sports.com that frank maccort said that if they have a losing record he will fire ned and I have heard other rumors to about ned might be fired after the season if they dont make the playoffs

this was from the dodgers game story yesterday.. i’m sure russell is fine, and he sure played like he’s fine yesterday.. but it freaked me out that he almost injured himself!! we CANNOT lose russell! i hope it’s not something that would linger, or be worse after the initial day..

It says a lot about Martin’s respect for Kent that he would talk that way after Martin had his ninth home run, a double, single, walk, stolen base, scored three runs and drove in three runs — and all this after suffering a freak pregame injury, hyperextending his left knee playing long toss before batting practice.

“A throw was going over my head, and I turned and outran the ball and slammed on the brakes, and my heel slid on the grass and my knee hyperextended,” said Martin. “It got right to the point of no return with the pain. Any time you hyperextend something, it’s scary, But it ended up fine.”

I got on – thank you enchanted!!!! I sent the same thing to jhall :) LMAO!!!!! Thanks for backing up OUR outfield :)
.
eduardo – get over it!!! Go cheer for the Rox!!!!
.
hey jnv – jhall made it back!! sigh :)
.
hey cp/sara – thanks for sticking up for Andre!!!
.
I came back from the dentist to no power. I have battery, but computer is running super slow – :)

N is pissed!! LOL!!! Glad you’re back.

sara – I hope Russell is okay – ouch – you are right we CANNOT be with him. :)

Yes Dnel it’s a great day at ITD!!! :-)
Now if we can get the Piano to fall on NED and JOJO, it will be a freak`n Party here!!! LOL

The team has been hitting the last 2 games without pathetic Slappy killing them softly with his weak ground outs and pop ups, just didn’t get any “big” hits in the first game is all. After getting 3 hits over 2 games against the Halos, 11 hits in game 1 should have been applauded by the media, but was instead cause for negativity towards Repko and the young guns.

Anyway, go NEW DODGERS!!!

Call me an idiot, but playing SS might just be the best fit for Nomar since he became a Dodger, that is given the uncertainty of Raffy’s return if at all. If, and that’s a big “IF”, Nomar can stay healthy, he can really help us without blocking Andy, Blake or James this time.

I don’t have time today, but “Killing Me Softly” by Roberta Flack sounds like a Pierre tune to me!

killing me softly with ground outs,
killing me softly with pop ups
killing me softly….with his arm

Hey Scott. Totally agree. Until Hu finds his bat in Vegas. H*ll, I can live with Hu without the bat. At least he plays great defense.

Go with it Scott, you’ve got dibs.

If indeed the word is getting around that Ned’s neck is on the line if we don’t make the playoffs, I would like to see Frank take the plunge and get rid of the worthless slick talking bast*** right now. I think that would invigorate the team and certainly us fans, and would let somebody like Logan or Ng take this team forward at the trade deadline to put best accomplishment forward for the rest of the season and for the future. Since Ned is basically a PR guy, besides being a total horse’s ***, Frank can always find him a PR job with one of his charity ventures. Like I’ve said before, can you imagine anybody hiring him as a GM hereafter.

Amen Bear!!!!

Eduardo, do you have a link to that comment from McCourt.?
.
BTW, Tony Jackson said that that was Kent’s 8th HR. It was #9. He and Turtle are tied with 9.
.
Here is a story that my friend Lore and her friends (I call them Russell’s chicks) related to me. They had gone to Macy in Glendale to get Milton Bradley’s autograph. While being there they heard that Jeff Kent was at the Macy in Northridge so even though it was late they decided to drive there. Jeff was running late so he had just arrived and was apologizing to everyone for being late and told them that he would sign for everyone that was there and that in addition everyone would get two Dodger vouchers for free tickets. When it was Lore’s turn to get an autograph she was so nervous that Kent noticed it. He told her. “Just relax first.”
.
BTw, I talked to Dr. Steinberg and he said he submitted 8/16 to Jamie McCourt for the tentative date for the WIN Women’s baseball clinic. At one of these WIN events is where I met Lore, then I noticed that she and her niece had season tickets a few rows behind me.

Hey! For anybody who was in favor of trading away two or three top young guns last year for Miggy “Piggy” Cabrera last year, take a look at his stats and note that after fielding at a .900 clip with limited range as a 3rd baseman, he’s now a 1st baseman.
http://www.baseball-reference.com/compare.cgi?top=/c/cabremi01.shtml
.
Cabrera: 82 Games, 304 ABs, 11 HRs, 19 doubles, 1 triple, 48 RBI, 37 runs
.
Loney: 83 Games, 307 ABs, 6 HRs, 18 doubles, 4 triples, 42 RBI, 38 Runs
.
The main difference between these two is about $11 million in salary and a cost in other players that would be about equivalent to Clayton Kershaw and Andy LaRoche.

Hey ZBlue!! Cool story.

We need a GM that will sit Joe down and tell him to play the best players, well, first he has to tell him who the best players are…

crzblue, thanks for the info. i put the tentative date on my calendar, just in case ;)

He was bunting in vain
Yes he was stealin’ Dre’s time
Killing us softly with his whines
Killing us softly with his whines
Tellin’ the whole world that he’s good
Killing us softly one day at a time…

Yes, scott, but you have to make that real simple for JoJo first – like eliminate the worst of the lot, such as Sweeney, Proctor and Berroa, so that JoJo doesn’t get confused. His thinking, as we well know, tends to revert to a couple of years ago when he was a real manager, so he can’t recognize Sweeney, Proctor and Berroa for what they are today.

right, bear!

Fire Joe
Fire the guy who hired Joe
Fire the guy who hired the guy who hired Joe

Yeah Eric!!!!!!

Okay – power’s back!! whew!!
.
enchanted/jhall – thanks :) LOL!!
.
crzblue – marked that date on my calendar (after my first week of school, but I don’t care) Very nice story too.
.
scott – cool start

LOL!!!

yeah – power back on!!
.
enchanted/jhall – thanks for keeping me informed :) LOL!!
.
crzblue – marked the date on my calendar, and very cool story.
.
scott – go for that song – it will be awesome, I’m sure!!!

double post – sorry!!
.
I see eric is back – thanks to you too :)

Louis Armstrong…

I see fields of green, the youngsters too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue and lines of white
The JoJo is gone, and no Ned in sight
And I think to myself what a wonderful world…

Sweet Druw 3-3 last night!

I can’t wait to see Nomar at SS lol

So, enchanted is going to finish the song? good so far LOL!!

Gotta jump out as quickly as I jumped in. I spent most of my lunch catching up here and copying songs to our site (great work, BTW!).

I just saw an article titled “Highlighting the biggest overachievers of ’08”. Now ordinarily I wouldn’t hit on something that had virtually no chance of talking about one of our boys in blue, but I did it anyway:

“Reds shortstops rank fifth in the majors with a .770 OPS — better than Jimmy Rollins and Derek Jeter, among others. And that number would be even better if the light-hitting Paul Janish hadn’t filled in for two weeks because of a rash of injuries.

Alex Gonzalez, who was supposed to be Cincinnati’s regular shortstop, has missed the entire season with a compression fracture in his knee. Jeff Keppinger filled in brilliantly, then missed 36 games with a broken left kneecap before returning last week.

When the Reds signed Jerry Hairston Jr. to a minor league deal in March, it looked like a case of manager Dusty Baker’s recycling one of his former Cubbie favorites. After Hairston appeared in the Mitchell report for allegedly buying HGH from former Mets clubhouse attendant Kirk Radomski, potential suitors weren’t exactly waiting in line.

But unlike Corey Patterson, who signed with Cincinnati the same day, Hairston has been a major contributor from day one. He’s hitting .331 with 13 stolen bases.

Baker’s biggest challenge at the moment is figuring out where to put everyone. Keppinger has played some short and third, Hairston has appeared at short and center, and it’s become apparent that the manager will have to exercise some ingenuity to keep everyone productive. ”

Doesn’t sound like it would take a Kemp/Kershaw trade to break one of those guys loose. Are they Furcal? No. Are they Barroa? No.

crzblue – I can’t find the article, and that is something I was able to do while not being on here. Still looking though – hmmm!! That news is too big not to be out there and available – wouldn’t you think? Then again, couldn’t find anything he was referring to yesterday, only things that contradicted what he was saying.

Phone keeps ringing… I hate it when work gets in the way. Wrap it up for me nels.

dnel/crzblue,
I was looking for that article from foxsports.com earlier and I couldn’t find it either; interesting…

my opinion cp – absolutely full of it :) That comment is too big for LA media not to pick up on it and run with it. Look what they do now with the smallest things to blame the young players for everything. I would expect if it was true Tony Jackson would have been all over it by now, or even Jon Weisman over at Dodger Thoughts.

dnel,
there you go again, sounding just like me! :) That’s what I thought when I heard that comment; it’s too big a comment for LA media not to say something about it. The way the team is playing (although a bit better lately) there is no way someone in the LA mainstream media doesn’t pickup on that.

dnel,
I just hate it when random comments are made (no matter what the topic is about) without something REAL to back it up…

eric (I know you are working) – that was an excellent article, and I hadn’t seen that one yet. I agreed with that whole list, especially the top being Oakland pitching. Other than Blanton, the rest of that staff has been rockin’ lately, and I have to admit Jonathon Sanchez is definitely getting it done for the gnats. I think we will have to face him this weekend. The one good thing about this weekend, is that Linsecum pitches Thursday (I consider him their ace right now regardless of what the rotation says). If gnats rotation stays the same, the Dodgers will face Sanchez, Zito and Cain for the weekend series.

CP ~He’s been making comments about trading Ethier or Kemp for Holliday the last two days, so needless to say, I have yet to find anything he has said to have any substance. Yes, Matt Holliday is a great player and has great numbers, but the question that keeps coming to mind is if he is so treasured, then why aren’t the rockies trying to keep him – something is up :) I tend to follow the rockies a little because Brian Fuentes is from Merced and my dad knows his dad. I haven’t read anything on that end that would indicate that the rox want a trade with us. I may be wrong, but I don’t think so. I think he thinks because we are girls and we happen to think our team happens to be handsome on top of being able to play great baseball, we don’t know what we are talking about. Well, he’s messing with the wrong girls on this board. :)

Oh yeah? Well I read that it isn’t really JP’s knee, but that he’s actually having JoJo’s love child…

LMAO!!!! enchanted – I don’t how to respond to that other than laugh hysterically – LMAO!!!!!! Your one-liners are to dye for. LMAO!! You do come up with some doozies LMAO!!!! Go back to work LMAO!!

A couple interesting blurbs from a Newsday.com article:

“Yankees manager Joe Girardi has not deviated from his philosophy of ensuring that the team’s young players have opportunities to make key contributions, even at the cost of a few win here and there.”

“The politics and pressure aside, Torre’s nature was to lean on favorites, both in the lineup and in the bullpen.”

Can we PLEASE turn back the clock and make an offer to Girardi he couldn’t refuse???

That’s according to an un-named source close to the happy couple.

yeah dnel,
I’ve read the earlier posts; it is a bit suspicious that he keeps on throwing out a trade for Holliday. I’ve always loved Holliday’s play but no way would I EVER trade Ethier or Kemp for him. Heck, I wouldn’t want to see any of our young players in Colorado. If they would take any of our vets, then I wouldn’t mind the trade, but the only vet worthwhile (that isn’t on the DL) is Kent. I don’t see the Rox doing that either. Plus, even if you do, you’ve gotta have a live body to run out to 2B to replace him. No, there will be no trades for Holliday.

And yes dnel, he is messing with the wrong girls. All the girls on this site KNOW what we’re talking about!

Enchanted, are you sure it isn’t NED’s love child???

Wow! – That’s a couple of telling statements from Girardi

kpookiemon.. we could only wish. before torre was gone, and before girardi was hired, i was hoping we’d get the younger joe because he would fit better with our younger guys.. but alas, we were given the older joe, who fits better with our older guys.. SIGH

Sorry, dneely, Girardi didn’t say it, the writer did…still, it gives one pause.

kpookiemon, man, that article really hits home.

okay – sorry – misread that :)

Actually, Girardi was ready to sign on the Dodgers’ dotted line, but the Yankees came in at the 11th hour, and they were Girardi’s first love.

Dun Dun DUNNNNN!!!

The plot thickens… I just heard from jnv that it might not be Joe’s baby!!! jnv has it from someone on the inside that it could be…

Dun Dun DUNNNNNN!!!!!!

Ned’s

Anyone for a little Paul Anka & Odia Coates???

wow kpookiemon! That was some article! It does seem to lend itself to, WE SHOULD HAVE GIRARDI HERE IN LA, NOT TORRE!

Enchanted,

That is why Juanpy’s mommy was calling Ned, to congradulate the lucky couple!! Not to ask for playing time.

LMAO!!!!!!!!! jnv/enchanted
.
.
kpookiemon – I know it’s Newsday, but that article needs to circulate through LA media too. Nice find!!!

All,
don’t forget tonight is James Loney “Before the Bigs”. I am reminding myself also.
.
Josh,
I noticed that Bobby Welch was on the field along with the rest of the 70’s boys on Saturday prior to the game but he was not at the luncheon event. I thought it was cute that after he was announced on the field, he headed to Mike Scioscia and gave him a big hug. Will he be at the 80’s luncheon on 8/2? I have a little story why Bobby became one of my favorites back then that I’ll share another time.
.
Josh,
The 70’s Luncheon event ended too early. We spent like an hour on the field level seats waiting for the official time for the gates to open so we could go out and then come back in. I know during that time we were being asked if we wanted to sign up for the 80’s luncheon but I think the question and answer session should have been longer. Tommy was the one that said “this is a good time to stop…” At the time it was 4 p.m. The event was advertised to end at 5 p.m. Also, the 1st base restaurant was too small to accomodate all attendees and the lines to the food were very long. I wanted to go back to get dessert but like I said the lines were too long. At the conclusion and as I was leaving, I saw Jerry Reuss standing up eating a hotdog as that seems like it was the only thing left.

jnv/enchanted – this story can feed into jnv’s wife’s theory of Torre, Ned and Conte bringing down the whole Dodger organization. Pictures and blackmail too LOL!!!

crzblue – I wanted to go to the 80’s luncheon- are tickets expensive. I am taking my mom to the Dbacks series that weekend.

here’s another strange article critical of Torre from 2005. Torre is manager #5:

http://baseballevolution.com/asher/managers.html

Just got back in. LMAO!! Go Rat Pack!! H*ll, I’ll have Jamie McCourts baby if she will wake Frank, Ned, and JoJo; the three decerebrates up. LOL!!!!

well, gotta go. I’ve got cleaning up to do and cooking for a church potluck tonight. I’ll catch up with y’all later…

Go Dodgers!

Have fun CP, sounds like a great time.

kpookiemon – so, what that article pretty much says is that he doesn’t do well in developing young talent – that’s… just… great…. (saying it very, very sarcastically), and what does this team need – a manager who can develop young talent. Nice job in hiring this guy – uuuggghhh!!!

Bye cp!!!! Have fun!!!

no news about the roster move yet.. still curious..

nelly, Let’s see…hmmm…who was it that hired Joe anyway?

scott – LMAO!!! Somebody who knew he loves his vets – hmmmmm!!!

sara – haven’t seen line-up yet,and I checked over at DT too, and they haven’t posted either. They seem to get it faster than we do.

When are we getting a new thread, this one is killing my computer, it kicks me off when I try and refresh it. UGHHHH!!! This blog is just like our FO…..FRUSTRATING!!! LOL

Coming this summer from NedCo® Television: A tale of lust, murder (well there’s a couple we’d like to anyway), blackmail and intrigue…

Starring Larry Hagman as J.R. Ewing as Ned Colletti wheeling and dealing his way to money and power, while using and abusing players any way he likes and tearing the Dodger family apart.

Starring Larry Hagman as J.R. Ewing as Ned Colletti wheeling and dealing his way to money and power, while using and abusing players any way he likes and tearing the Dodger family apart.

Barbara Bel Geddes as Miss Ellie as Frank McCourt the do nothing namby-pamby matriarch of the Dodger clan unable to stop Ned and Joe from doing the evils they will.

Howard Keel as Claton Farlow as Joe Torre who thinks he knows how to run everything but is hopelessly behind the times.

Patrick Duffy as Bobby Ewing as Logan White the glue who really holds the Dodger family together.

And Charlene Tilton as Lucy Ewing as Juan Pierre, a totally useless cast member, but who had to be in each and every friggin show.

In DULLARDS. Tonights episode: “That baby ain’t mine!!”

Wednesday night at 7:00 Central, 5:00 Pacific. It’s FANtastic!!®

*Ned’s Manager Search Check List:

1. Loves vet’s – CHECK!

2. Loves vet’s – CHECK!

3. Loves vet’s – CHECK!

*Saved from last managerial search

They need to post the lineup – then we should get a new thread.
.
jnv – with the articles that kpookiemon has shown us today, your wife’s theory is still a strong possibility – LOL!!

LMAO!!! is this what you call work, enchanted? LMAO!!!
.
scott -that needs to be a daily posting when we start seeing Joe prance Andruw and Nomar back out there every night, especially if they come back worse than when they left.

yeah, this thread is getting too big.

Dnel,
tickets are $75 but they do include a ticket to the game in the Reserved section. If you want Loge then is a little more. Also you get to go to the stadium early so you don’t pay for parking. They will direct you where to park. Once is over it should be close to BP. We stayed in the left field sitting in the shade being surpervised by ushers so we would not be asking the boys for baseballs or talking with them or asking for autographs.

98. Jon Weisman
Tonight’s lineup:

Kemp, CF
Ethier, RF
Martin, C
Kent, 2B
Loney, 1B
DeWitt, 3B
Young, LF
Maza, SS
Kuroda, P

Dnel,
My wife is obviously a very inteligent woman, She married me didn’t she!!! LMAO Ya right!!!!
But I am believe it more and more.

Sorry for the weird half double post. This thread’s doing some weird things when I hit submit.

crz – so it’s worth it? I was expecting alot more, actually – thanks :)

Nice lineup. Did Torre have a stroke or something?

new thread!!!

God forbid JOJO keep the same line up 2 nights in a row. I said earlier that he would change it, scoring 7 runs scares the hell out of him!!!

jnv – LMAO!!! Well, I married a gnats fan – so what does that tell you? Absolutely crazy sometimes!!! The theory fits so well, it’s scary – once again, I have watched too many episodes of the Sopranos. My husband believes it too because why on earth would the Dodgers hire a former gnat to run the organization, and he has a hey day with Conte and Torre now ~ LOL!!!

I know it would be too much to ask to have Kirk Gibson at the 80’s luncheon. He will be at the stadium since we are playing the D’backs but he will be busy getting the team ready for the game. But, but he can be announced on the field with the rest of the boys from the 80’s and put on the Dodger uni, right?

You Can’t Win With Kids©
Sung to You Can’t Hurry Love by the Supremes.

I need vets, vets to ease my mind.
I need to sign, sign some bum past their prime.
And Neddy says
You can’t win with kids.
No, they just have to sit.
He said, vets are more seasoned.
They’ll lead our kids and get more hits.

You can’t win with kids.
No, you must play the fakes.
You’ve got to trust the vets in decline.
No matter how long it takes.

But how many losses.
Must we stand, before we play the kids.
That let us win someday.
They are the only thing.
That keeps us hanging on.
When I feel the team, yeah,
Is going young.
I remember Furter said.

You can’t win with kids.
No, they just have to sit.
He says the vets will see us thru.
From the kids at bats they’ll take.
How long must they wait.
How much can the vets skate.
Before ineptitude, will cause the team to tank.

No, I can’t bear to watch Fat Andruw Jones.
I grow impatient for Frank, to send Colletti home.
And when I see Phew,
I can’t go on.
Ned’s ignorant words, I keep gaggin’ on.
I remember Neddy said.

You can’t win with kids.
No, they just have to sit.
The vets are our leaders.
From the kids at bats they’ll take.
You can’t win with kids.
No, they just have to wait.

He said trust the vets in decline.
No matter how the young guys rake.

No wins, wins don’t come easy.
So we keep on failing.
Anticipating, for that old vet
To come thru some night.
For a stronger arm.
And Andre every night.
We keep waiting.
We keep on waiting.
But it ain’t easy.
Cause Neddy says.

You can’t win with kids.
No, they just have to sit.
He said the vets are more seasoned.
They’ll bridge the gap for heavens sake.

You can’t win with kids.
No, they just have to wait.

I’ve read a few good stuff here.Definitely worth bookmarking for revisiting.I wonder how much effort you put to create such a magnificent informative website
