Houston, we have a series

Juan Pierre is headed to the DL, and fortunately, it’s an MCL sprain that will not require surgery. He’s on crutches today, but we’ll see how he continues to progress. In the meantime, Jason Repko is being recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas to take his place.

I did notice that there was a comment a few days ago about Davey Lopes and the Dodgers failure to include him in the things we do and I can assure you that is not the case. He was invited to take part in the 70s reunion and unfortunately, he could not attend. As you probably know, he’s a coach for the Phillies, which would usually preclude him from doing things in-season but on top of that, he has been out with cancer, too. So, when the Phillies were in town, he was not here with the club.

We’ve certainly had him out here in the past as part of the record-breaking infield and he’ll continue to be invited to all of these sorts of events.

Also, for those who haven’t seen it, Ozomatli recorded a version of Take Me Out to the Ballgame as part of the 100th anniversary celebration of the song. Fans can vote on the best version at ESPN.com’s Baseball Tonight clubouse, so get behind our hometown band and check out their video. It’s pretty cool and they’re all decked out in Dodger gear.

Here’s today’s lineup in Houston…

 Repko, CF

Ethier, RF

Martin, C

Kent, 2B

Loney, 1B

Young, 2B

DeWitt, 3B

Maza, SS

Stults, P

Young at LF I am assuming. Not sure why Torre insists on taking Kemp out just because Repko is playing?

  2. messagebear@msn.com

    It’s official for Pierre!!!
Now I want to see Conte working with Pierre constantly to get him recovered – that would possibly stretch the DL right out to the end of the season.
    We can always be hopeful!
Also, send a few kudos to Aybar.
I do see that we’re at least trying Maza at shortstop; otherwise I would have suggested that Repko play as aggresively as he can when it comes to short popups beyond shortstop.

  3. scott_in_arcadia

This is a case where I’m looking forward to Conte working some of his magic on Pierre and keeping him out for 60 days like everyone else.

Sorry you’re caught in the middle of this Josh, but most Dodger fans are ecstatic about Pierre being out even if it had to happen this way.

  4. scurtis1999

Good to see Kemp on the bench for a game. Oswalt would make him look like a little biatch with those sliders down and away!

  5. lny4loney

Torre thought bubble: “With Pierre out these kids are going to score a ton of runs and then I’ll have to play them. I know, I’ll sit down my my most potent offensive weapon. That ought to hold them down a bit.”

  6. lny4loney

I refuse to (outwardly) celebrate Pierre’s injury. The last time I did that, LaRoche went down minutes later.

  7. tradejuanpypaperbag

For those of you that think Matt Holliday would make a good trade. Here is some stats that would say otherwise. Don’t trade our young players. Let them develop as a team – don’t split them up. Also, Holliday has had 30 extra PAs than Ethier and their numbers are very similar.
    .

  8. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

i like the lineup. i think kemp could use a day off, and i think we need to see repko in center. matt will be back tomorrow. PLEASE get some hits, and score some runs! 🙂

  9. scott_in_arcadia

I hear you MLK. I’m a little hesitant myself. I’m celebrating him being OUT, and not so much being hurt. It’s a kind of tough love for the Dodgers. It’s what’s best for the team, Ned, and Joe so that they can maybe see what a difference it will make since they won’t do it on their own.

  10. tradejuanpypaperbag

scurtis – it was brought up on previous thread a couple of times. I just wanted to be able to justify the same reason you are stating, but with statistics to back it up. I didn’t want my comment to be unjustified – thanks 🙂

  11. cpompe1

scurtis, I wouldn’t trade for Holliday. Yes, I’ve always liked him but again, I don’t want to see any of our young players (see dnel, I used the term correctly!) coming back to bury us.

  12. boblee14@yahoo.com

Well, I have to say I would rather see Kemp in there tonight. Kent is the odd man out. Let’s hope the kids catch fire tonight and Repko has a start that keeps him here for ever. I like Repko and glad to see him healthy. I don’t care if Pierre ever comes back to the team. I wonder if the FAT*** has lost any pounds while on the DL. He probably has gained a few more.

Look for a good game tonight and lets start a winning streak..

  13. aeversw

No Slappy or Berroa! At least we don’t have easy outs batting 8-9-1. Well we still do. Nevermind. 😦

  14. lagirl27

I read this blog everyday and here is my first post. When I watched Pierre go down at the stadium yesterday I was not happy. As a Dodger fan I was happy to see Jones go down, but I will openly say that I do like Juan and I will miss him ( please don’t beast me up for saying it) even if he does have a noodle arm! He gets on base and he can run one he gets there. He is a good contact hitter and is consistent, which is very hard to find on this team. My little Piernas!
But the fact that they feel that Kemp can easily be taken out to make room for others, esp. for Repko? that is not cool. nobody remembers Repko anyway! I am ok with a rest for Kemp, but they always take him out like he is worthless- which is not true.

*And not like I need to point this out. We all are aware of it, but come on yesterday Sweeny officially went down to at .098 batting average. Really Sweeny? Aye*

  15. tradejuanpypaperbag

sara/cp – I wouldn’t mind seeing all four of them share the outfield. This is what I wanted to see all along. Matt, Andre, Delwyn and Jason are the four best outfielders in my opinion. At least this way if one of them sits out a night, I am confident that the 3 out there will do a great job 🙂

  16. perumike

Welcome Amy! While I both agree and disagree with you, I definitely welcome you to the insanity that is Inside the Dodgers!

  17. aeversw

Maybe in triple A CP. He hasn’t hit major league pitching at all in his career. In 406 career ABs he is batting .232/.302/.382. So you can see why im not too excited. I’d much rather see Pee Wee leading off tonight. Apparently the only quality JoJo cares about for a lead off guy is speed not getting on base.

  18. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

exactly dnelly.. kemp tonight, someone else tomorrow. but at least i have some confidence in all of them so i can be happy with any mix as long as it’s not the same person sitting every night.

  19. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

same amy. i welcome you. and although i do not agree with you about pierre, you are definitely entitled to your opinion, and i’m glad you decided to post! hope to hear more from you soon..

  20. tradejuanpypaperbag

Welcome amymwalton!! We feel the same way when Ethier sits for no reason too. That is definitely a common thread here about Matt and Andre and the fair treatment they are receiving about their playing time.

  21. lny4loney

For more stats that support dnelly, here are Matt Holliday’s lifetime splits:
    http://www.baseball-reference.com/pi/bsplit.cgi?n1=hollima01&year=00
    .
When you look at his away numbers, you’ll see that outside of Colorado Holliday is a good player — but far from a great one.
    .
And of course playing half his game in pitcher-friendly Dodger Stadium would drive his numbers down a little bit more.
    .
I would rank Holliday in the same class with Ethier, somewhat better than DY, and totally outclassed by Kemp.
    .
Maybe the Rocks need Juan Pierre to go with Willy Taveras to cover their huge outfield. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

  22. tradejuanpypaperbag

perumike – I’m guessing you called for a keyboard, but whatever you did – thanks!! LOL!!

  23. enchantedbeaver

Repko’s been hot of late in AAA, so I don’t have a problem with him leading off for a few games to see how he does – anything’s better than what we had.

  24. lagirl27

Thank you guys for the welcome! It’s funny, I do stop by and read this everyday, but today I decided the comment 🙂 and I am glad that I did. I’ve been bleeding Blue for over 20 years. I’m a little obsessed, but i don’t think you all mind!

  25. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

Meanwhile, Matt Kemp is out tonight, and possibly tomorrow as well, with an infection in his right eye. He couldn’t get his contact lens in this morning.

that’s from Tony Jackson. Nice to see there’s actually a method to the madness this time.

  26. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

amy, i did that too. i used to just read, and i never commented. but one day i just decided to. and now i always comment. i’m sure you will comment more frequently. the first time is always the most intimidating! haha..

  27. tradejuanpypaperbag

sara – okay, I was thinking he came in the clubhouse in a bad mood – much better reason LOL!!! 🙂

  28. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

    haha, yeah dnelly..

joe: matty, you seem a bit moody today. so you can’t play.

matt: no, joe, i’m really fine.

joe: no, my gut tells me you’re not ready to play. and my gut is ALWAYS right..

  29. lny4loney

Amy — welcome to the board. The more the merrier! I respect your love for Juan, but I would have a lot more problems with it if you were the manager.
    .
Aw heck, I like Juan. He seems like a good guy who is doing all he can with his God-given talents. I have an issue with him to the extent that he is whining for playing time.
    .
Mostly I blame Ned and JoJo for our Pierre-related problems.

  30. lny4loney

Damnit Matt! Use the daily disposables or sanitize your lenses. I admit I don’t because of the expense, but you’re making about $400 K/yr.

  31. cpompe1

and Max, I just love Repko’s energy. I just want to make sure he doesn’t take out any of our other OFers…

    dnel,
there you go again, sounding like me! 🙂 I’m just excited that we get OFers where one of them I don’t dread coming in. Again, like I told Max, my only hesitation with Repko is that he doesn’t take out any of our other OFers…

  32. tradejuanpypaperbag

sara – that article about playing time baffles my mind – I think Torre is a lunatic to play a player based on how he is feeling that day.

  33. lagirl27

OMG- you guys are respecting me for liking Juan. I really thought I would get tormented for it. Yes, noodle arm for sure- no doubt about it. To me he gets the job done, he’s one of the hardest working guys on the team, has a good attitude even when he’s benched, and he was nice in person when I met him!

But my all time favorite guy is Matthew. I am a Kemp supporter all the way. I hope is pink eye doesn’t spread.

  34. enchantedbeaver

So without Kemp we’re playing a man down tonight. Another reason I hate a 12 man pitching staff.

  35. cpompe1

oh, and btw, welcome Amy! Like sara said, I started out just as a reader but now I can’t stay off of ITD! 🙂

  36. tradejuanpypaperbag

Amy – I am a teacher and immediately thought pink eye and how it could spread like wild fire. However, with contacts, it could be MLK’s reason too.

  37. cpompe1

hey Amy, none of us has cookie-cutter the exact same opinions here. Most of us agree on most things, but not all things at all times…

  38. lny4loney

Got any lryics-writing talent, Amy? If so, join in the fun. And if not, give it a shot anyway. It’s good fun!

  39. oldbrooklynfan

Good to see Repko made it back in one piece.
I know some of you groundhogs are going bananas over the way mother nature took care of Pierre.
But once he feels better he’ll be back playing regular with Jones in center and Kemp & Ethier will be battling each other for playing time as Torre doesn’t go to much by how good you’re playing but by how much playing time you have in the big leagues.
Well I have to mention that the Dodgers got there own writeup in New York’s Daily News after winning without a hit. GO DODGERS!!!

  40. tradejuanpypaperbag

enchanted – be nice!! your den mother is speaking to you LMAO!!! Notice how I am treading carefully LMAO!!!!

  41. kpookiemon

Repko’s major league stats should have an asterisk because he was always playing hurt, rushing back too soon, etc. He should be a lesson to Andruw and Juan to take LOTS of time to heal…in order to get right, you understand……

Ned, how does it feel to have die-hard Dodger fans rooting for your acquisitons to stay put on the DL and pleading for Logan White’s draft picks to man the line-up?

  42. cpompe1

PierreEW, I for one (and I know there are others here) that are not going “bananas” over Pierre getting hurt. Our excitement comes over the fact that Joe will play the younger players (see dnel!) and will really see what they can do together.

  43. tradejuanpypaperbag

Good evening PierreEW!! Thanks for letting us know we made New York news too. We were all over the Bay Area news.
    .
Sara – the bay area radio station talked about how our division sucks and that the gnats could take the division. They want to get rid of all of their PVLs (sound familiar), but don’t know if they can if they are close to Arizona by trade deadline.

  44. lny4loney

    Alright, cpompe.
    .
Amy, you’re always welcome here with whatever kind of contribution you choose to make.

  45. cpompe1

amy, take your time. I’ve been a semi-regular poster here for a few months and I just posted only my 2nd song this morning.

  46. messagebear@msn.com

Great to hear from you, Amy. I personally would like to see Pierre batting in the lower end of the batting order and not necessarily be an everyday fixture, and I wouldn’t get as upset as I often do, but I like to see other opinions presented as long as they’re well reasoned. Thank you for sharing yours. If you care to tell us where you’re from, we’ll gladly add you to our bloggers’ list.

  47. tradejuanpypaperbag

LMAO!!!!! enchanted LMAO!!!! LMAO!!!!! It’s okay I know you are just being you and I am fine with that LMAO!!!!

  48. rodmky@optusnet.com.au

Welcome Amy from an Aussie Dodger fan of over 40 years. This looks like a solid line-up tonight (this morning) even with Matt on the bench. My greatest fear is that it will play very well but to no avail when the “big boys” return from the DL. I can’t for the like of me understand the thinking that if we payed you lots of money then you must be better than those cheap young guys mentality. Anyway lets sweep.

  49. tradejuanpypaperbag

Where are they? Yes, if you can find them LMAO!!!!!
You miss them, don’t you? LMAO!!!!

  50. lagirl27

where am I from? I’m a little bit of a wonderer these days. would you like where I grew up? where I currently live? where I work?

I am in the process of moving in two months. I can give you the location of where I’ll be blogging from everyday, which is where I work.

nutshell version: I have no home 😦

  51. tradejuanpypaperbag

    Nice job messagebear 🙂
    .
    enchanted- still laughing LMAO!!!!!!!
    .
I am referring Matt, Andre, Russell, Blake, and James as our young players rather than kids. One of those young players(Andre) is going to be a father by the end of the year.
    .
Amy – I was going to ask who you favorite was, but I see you answered that already – good!! Even though we talk alot of baseball, we do talk girl stuff too on occasion – eyes, facial hair, etc. so feel free when the topic arises.

  52. messagebear@msn.com

Your blogging home, where you work, would be fine. We just kind of like to see where we are spread out geographically, amy.

  53. kpookiemon

In retrospect, Torre’s braindead quote about Pierre and Jone as his starters will now serve only to have alienated Ethier, Kemp and Young. Joe, I thought you were big on preaching patience? Couldn’t you wait to rock the boat until Andruw actually got well? I would ask you, Mr. Torre, if you have seen any indication that this team will run through a brick wall for you? Or could it be these guys wallow like a ship without a rudder…or even a captain? Sorry, Torre’s a disaster for this team.

  54. oldbrooklynfan

    CPOMPE1
I’m just quoting what Joe Torre said.
Pierre is his regular LF with Jones in CF
He said that Kemp & Ethier will be battling it out for playing time.
    Just as it was before.

  55. tradejuanpypaperbag

Where did you come from, jnv? LMAO!!!!
People were asking the other night if you are being affected by the fires up in Roseville 🙂
    .
amy – beautiful is right, along with being very talented ballplayers (which is the most important – lol) who have wonderful personalities as well.
    .
jnv – there!!! You can get beautiful and talented in the same sentence LOL!!

  56. messagebear@msn.com

Then I will once again publish the list of bloggers and their city and state. As you can see, we still have some names for which we don’t have that information. Is there any way Repko can run into Sweeney when he’s batting? (Notice I didn’t say hitting because that’s something he NEVER does.)

  58. dodgrdad14

    DNEL,
I was actually in the hospital last week, It seems NERD and JOJO have given me a heart attack!! LOL at least that is what my doctor thought when I was at her office and rushed me off to the hospital in an ambulance. Well it turns out I wasn’t having a heart attack but they can’t tell me what it was either!! anyway I am good to go now.

  59. tradejuanpypaperbag

enchanted ~ Don’t you think you have had enough wishes come true? LMAO!!!! I have to admit, it wasn’t Andruw who sat on him, but it happened – LOL!!!

  60. lagirl27

Very cool. I’m getting to know Glendale. My dad lives here and it only takes us 15mins to get to Dodger Stadium. I love it!

  61. rodmky@optusnet.com.au

It’s almost game time … I hope all of you near those bush fires are safe and well. We certainly know all about the devistation they can inflict down here.

  62. lagirl27

Ok- Repko just struck out! boo. I’m going home now. Have a good night. Thank you for the welcome and the Dodgers better shape it up now that we are back in the NL!

    ~Amy

  63. enchantedbeaver

That’s one more than we usually get in the first.

Hell that’s one more than we usually get in the game.

  64. rodmky@optusnet.com.au

Not sure I like the announcing team on MLB.TV but after Vin everybody sounds second rate.

  65. dodgereric

    Here’s today’s lineup in Houston…

    Repko, CF

    Ethier, RF

    Martin, C

    Kent, 2B

    Loney, 1B

    Young, 2B

    DeWitt, 3B

    Maza, SS

    Stults, P

    With apologies to Lionel Ritchie:

    Hello

I’ve been alone with you inside my mind
And in my dreams you’re leading off every time
I sometimes see you bunting for a hit
Hello, why do they say you are ****?

You’re the greatest in the game
The press can’t believe I’ve lied
    You’re all I’ve ever wanted
    My arms are open wide
‘Cause you wear that hat just right
And you know just what to do
And I want to pencil you in, I love you

    Hello
Is it me You’re looking for?
Cos I wonder where you are
    I hope I don’t start to pout
I hope we don’t start scoring
Then our secret will be out
I don’t know why that no one knows
You’re the greatest thing in clothes
But let me start by saying
    I love you

I long to see you out there in left field
Oh, when will Conte say those words, “Pierre is healed!”
Sometimes I feel that I just have no shame
Hello? Erick Aybar is to blame
Cos I wonder where you are
And I don’t know what to do
Who in the world will lead off
How come Repko’s here, not you?
Tell me that your knee’s all right
    For I haven’t got a clue
But let me start by saying, I love you

  66. tradejuanpypaperbag

How was your weekend? We went to A’s/Giants game – I’ll leave it at that – enough said. 🙂

  67. enchantedbeaver

    ERIC!! LMAO!!

I have no idea why this line cracks me up:
    .
“You’re the greatest thing in clothes”

  68. dodgereric

Oh, full as usual. Yardwork, cars, movies, birthday parties, digging holes for flagpoles in 100 degree heat, the usual.

And thanks, it was just a quickie. I thought Joe would be a little lovesick today and I wanted to console him.

  69. rodmky@optusnet.com.au

It is going to be crying shame if all that James is remembered for is his ability to hit into DP’s.

  70. enchantedbeaver

Its come to my attention that we need someone who can steal a base in front of Loney to keep him from hitting into so dang many DPs.

  71. rodmky@optusnet.com.au

If we were playing the blame game .. and we sometimes do .. then surely a major reason our hitting is sooooooo weak must be laid at the feet of Mike Easler. Yes/No?

  72. enchantedbeaver

I’m going to say a qualified yes rodmky, but Easler was a lot of these guys’ hitting coach in the minors. I think a lot has to do with trying to teach them Torre’s way rather than coaching to each players strength.

  73. xuniquexjyx@hotmail.com

Well, that’s the ball game. Roy Oswalt hasn’t been doing well, but he’s going to look fantastic against the Dodger bats.

  74. bluecrewgirl

Bummer, I thought we were going to get out of that with only giving up a run. Oh well, it’s still early and the odds have to be in our favor to have a break out inning one of these games.

  75. dodgereric

Nelly, they’re pouring the cement around the sleeve tomorrow and we’re installing the pole on Thursday. When the initial flagraising happens, we don’t know yet. There are arrangement to be made that are out of our control, but it probably won’t be for a couple of weeks.

Hey, you might know – have those fires gotten anywhere near Lake Tahoe? We’re supposed to be camping up there next week.

  76. rodmky@optusnet.com.au

I hate to be a defeatist but as a fan of over 40 years I can’t remember the last time we seemed so incapable of scoring runs. AND it shows in the comments we all make as soon as we lose the lead.

  77. boblee14@yahoo.com

Hey, Welcome aboard Amy from a long, long, long time Dodger fan.

I never seen a team have so many hitters in a slump at the same time…..

  78. rodmky@optusnet.com.au

I DO feel sorry for Repko .. he’s called up, immediately put into the lead-off spot and expected to be our spark plug .. he was on a hiding to nothing….. and btw scurtis your money is safe.

  79. scurtis1999

    HAHAHA 1st and 3rd 0 outs and can’t score!

Sorry Joe, we don’t have any Jeters, Arods, Giambis, Matsuis, or Posadas on this team. Just a bunch of punching judy AAA players.

  80. biddyboo

As a Pierre supporter and one of the few people who would be willing to buy a Pierre jersey 🙂 I ask y’all this: with your dreams come true without Pierre how do we explain our current situation? Win or lose tonight, I hope some of the steadfast Debbie Downers that blame everything on him will open their eyes that when this team loses or wins its as a team! No ONE player is the answer…what they can pull together is the answer.

  81. boblee14@yahoo.com

Runners at first & third, no outs and can’t score a run. Totally unacceptable. This team is sucking big time right now. Torre has screwed this team up bad. They were hitting the first of the year and it’s all his fault because he changed the lineup and sat players who were playing good so many times he has them jacked up.

  82. scurtis1999

If I could get laid for everytime we didn’t score with a man on 3rd and 0 out or even 1 out, I would be a freaking porn star by now.

    Absolutely a JOKE!

  83. scurtis1999

Just face it, we don’t have many good offensive players on this team. Im starting to just face reality now.

  84. tradejuanpypaperbag

eric ~ It sounds like you are making progress on the flag – that’s great! I will find out about Tahoe – haven’t heard anything specific about that area because it’s mostly in the Mariposa and Tuolomne County, but I will look into it. Be back in a few with info – Tahoe is gorgeous!!

  85. j-murray

this offense doesn’t deserve to lick the dirt off the astro’s cleats. i really hope kershaw, kuroda and billingsley can throw consecutive shutouts. perhaps we can win the next 3 games 1-0.

  86. bluecrewgirl

I totally agree with you boblee, the continual messing around with the lineup and the batting order has really messed up this team. They haven’t been able to develop any chemistry or consistency because of it. Granted. losing Furcal was huge, but I think they could have weathered the storm a lot better with a consistent lineup. Even though Ethier is my fave, I think he is a much more productive player in the 5th or 6th spot than in the 2. I also think Martin would have worked much better in the lead off spot than Pierre. I think players with fiery personalities like Furcal and Martin work better in the leadoff spot. I know some don’t think it matters where you bat in the order, but I think it does in a lot of cases.

  87. shad78@yahoo.com

Damn it Loney where was that a couple of inning later. At least I was right getting more than 3 hits off of him.

  88. enchantedbeaver

Biddy, none of us blame Pierre exclusively for us losing. Can he hit? No. Can he throw? No. He is what he’s always been – Pierre, who plays with the best ability he can. The person we blame is the idiot who stuck him out there night after night, and has single handedly ruined what was once a promising team – Joe Torre.

No, the two architects of this fine season are JoJo and Ned, and that is where the blame lies.

    .
eric – this article is out of Sacramento, but I will watch the news tonight and see if they have anything specific. Northstateblues is up in Marysville so he may be able to give you some first hand knowledge. I will keep my eyes and ears open. It’s much better here today than it has been in a long time, so maybe they are beginning to get everything more contained. 🙂

  90. rodmky@optusnet.com.au

It’s too early to get on the booze down here but this team certainly can drive you to drink.

  91. boblee14@yahoo.com

Bluecrewgirl. I posted earlier today on yesterdays thread about the way the team has scored less and less runs each month with more 1 run games and shut outs each month. we scored 80 runs this month and over 130 in april. We’re going downhill fast. We can’t seem to stop the sled as the runners are getting us nowhere fast.

  92. tradejuanpypaperbag

bluecrewgirl – I like Ethier in the 5th/6th spot too. He is usually good for doubles and he needs to be down further in the order to turn those doubles into RBIs. He and Matt are tied for the team lead in doubles with 18. I think they put him in the 2-hole because he generally has good plate discipline and can handle all of Pierre’s comings and goings. He is willing to take a strike for Pierre to get his stolen base, and he is usually good about drawing walks. So, in some ways as long as Pierre has gotten his stolen base, Andre has done his job in getting a runner over. I would consider Andre one of the more patient batters.

  93. scurtis1999

    Furcal leading off playing SS

    Nomar hitting 2nd at 3rd

    Druw hitting 4th and DHing

    game starts in 20 minutes!

  94. enchantedbeaver

As I mentioned on the last thread, if the PVLs on the DL came back today and we played .550 ball the rest of the way, that’s 83 wins. If they play .600 ball, that’s 87 wins. Even if they made the playoffs, does anyone think they can do anything once they get there?

Fire Ned. Fire JoJo. Hire White/Ng as the interim GM. Trade away all the PVLs for whatever you can get for them so you can start out with a clean slate. Let the kids play out the season so you have a proper way of evaluating them, then go into the winter meetings with a knowledge of who to keep and who to trade for something better. If you have to trade any of the kids to upgrade, I’d much rather have someone who actually knows how to judge talent like White doing it than Ned. We’re already living with the best that Ned can do.

  95. cable30@hotmail.com

I don’t think it’s Torre’s fault for the lack of hitting, run scoring or bad playing. It boils down to the caliber of player the team has and that standard is lacking in alot of positions/players.
Nice to see the a more positive talk about the team than what was going on a few days ago.

  96. rodmky@optusnet.com.au

With Ozwalt coming out most teams would look forward to getting amongst the new pitcher but since our guys have trouble hitting anybody then status Quo.

  97. oldbrooklynfan

What I should say is it’s hard for a Dodger pitcher to win games.
The brass is expecting the guys getting off the DL will help out the situation.
    I hope so.

  98. dodgereric

    Me too!

  99. bluecrewgirl

God, I’m beginning to wonder if this team is cursed. Instead of Curse of the Bambino, it’s Curse of the O’Malley’s. I think Walter is rolling in his grave at what has become of his once proud franchise.

  100. boblee14@yahoo.com

Oh my God, give us a break. Maybe Sweeney will fall and break a leg. Sorry but I can’t help it.

  101. rodmky@optusnet.com.au

I don’t want to pick a fight cable but it is Torre who sends up Sweeney day in day out and yes he is responsible for what the team does. I believe it comes with the paycheck.

  102. enchantedbeaver

As much as we want them to play like vets, other than Kent, no one out there has more than 2 1/2 years of big league experience. I get frustrated too, but the only way these guys will ever become bona fide major leaguers is to play. Had the PVLs played and performed, I think the kids would be better because there wouldn’t be as much pressure on them to produce and win. It hurts now, but in the long run they’ll all be better off for having had this season.

  103. shad78@yahoo.com

It doesn’t matter he getting garbage PH time now lol. We wasn’t going to win this anyway no need to complain now.

  104. tradejuanpypaperbag

I forgot myself (my negative talk ya know) – That was a good try Mr. Sweeney – maybe next time 🙂 Is that better rodmky? LOL!!

  105. shad78@yahoo.com

At least Torre given him a chance but it just not working for him oh where is Marlon at and why did we let him go. I bet he’ll probably would had 20 hits by now.

  106. tradejuanpypaperbag

Very well said once again enchanted. You are full of a great deal of wisdom tonight, I must say 🙂

  107. enchantedbeaver

If they can get back around to Repko, he has a chance to tie the franchise record for strikeouts in a game (5), held by none other than Bill Russell, who had an 18 year career because they didn’t give up on him just because he struck out and made a lot of errors at short.

Just saying I’d rather have a shot at this group of youngsters attaining something special, than to have a bunch of mercinary PVLs who give you a couple wins now and who can’t wait to pick-up their paycheck.

  108. boblee14@yahoo.com

Hey dnelly, I’m ready for the Cowboys to start kicking some A**. Bring on the NFL. I’m tired of this team night after night. It’s becoming embarrassing.

  109. tradejuanpypaperbag

I am so with that enchanted. They need the chance to show what they can do over a span of time, not just one game. I would have to assume Matt would’ve played tonight if he could, and then Repko would’ve been able to acclamate for a day at least. He was just called up so we need to give him a break. Pierre has gone 0-5 before, and look how much experience he has, plus all that extra time he spends getting ready.

  110. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

I could’nt have said it better myself, enchanted. You’ve encapsulized what most of us have been saying for months. Here’s to hoping the light goes on in Frank’s head and SOON!!

  111. tradejuanpypaperbag

boblee – don’t even start (jk). I have to behave myself about your boys – my sister-in-law lives in Dallas. Anyhow, I am always ready for football, too. At least I can say that the Redskins know how to rebuild, which is more than I can say for this management team. Too much young Dodger talent going to waste I’m afraid. We will have fun this year during football season. I really do like our division. It’s always tough and whoever comes out of it ahead, I am usually all for that team to go all the way. Thanks for the reminder – Skins are coming to SF this year – can’t wait. Okay – back to baseball 🙂 My first love is Dodger baseball, 2nd love is Redskins football and then there are the Kings from Sacramento.

  112. bluecrewgirl

Totally agree with you, Enchanted. The young guys just need to play every game and work out the kinks. It would really pay off in the long run.

Also, Maza may not be an all star, but he is way better than anything we have at ss while Furcal is out. I think if he had played every game while Furcal was out, we would have gotten more production out of that position. Hu is going to be good, but he needs more seasoning in the minors. Berroa hasn’t done anything to speak of since the acquired him.

  113. enchantedbeaver

PierresEW will probably remember this – the 1962 Mets went 40-120.

This team right now is like a AAA 1/2 team facing major league clubs. If this was 2009 half way through the season and these same kids were playing this same way, then I’d say some heads should roll. But its like any other job where the employer says they want experience, but you can’t get experience unless you get hired, but you can’t get hired because you don’t have any experience. Someone’s got to give them the chance. Otherwise its not worth having a farm system to begin with.

  114. tradejuanpypaperbag

0 for 5 is still 0 for 5, stikeouts or not. Pierre has gone 0-5 too. All I am saying, is we need to give Repko a chance to get himself acclamated. For heavens sakes, look what we are putting with in Sweeney.

  115. enchantedbeaver

Pierre might not strike out 5 times in a game, but what’s the difference between striking out and popping up? Neither accomplishes anything.

  116. boblee14@yahoo.com

dnelly, will be interesting NfL season this year. Dallas has put together a hell of a bunch of misfits. Now let’s see if they can win.

  117. tradejuanpypaperbag

Boblee – you’ve got TO – that’s enough to have to handle LOL!!! I couldn’t imagine having more – LOL!!

  118. shad78@yahoo.com

That was the last year Pierre but at least he would had grounded in dp or maybe drag a bunt

  119. cable30@hotmail.com

rodmky-Torre plays “the caliber of players he has”, and I don’t recall saying Sweeny was a good player. He’s what Torre has available-if he chooses to use him then that’s Torre’s problem. But I don’t see alot of high caliber players like some of the other teams have. The only really good part of the Dodgers is the pitching. The Dodgers are a “Good” team-that’s why they are where they are today.
They will stay there until they can improve on “Good”.

  120. tradejuanpypaperbag

boblee – I am so sorry – I forgot about that, LOL!!! Romo’s going to have quite the year, I guess.

  121. tradejuanpypaperbag

Even though it was a loss, I was glad to see that group out there. Like enchanted said, we need these young players playing to get the experience they need so they can become the big leaguers that we know they will be.

  122. enchantedbeaver

Torre and Easler sure can’t seem to get these guys to hit in sync. I don’t know Rod, since they won’t fire Torre, maybe Easler’s going to have to take the fall and we try someone new with them.

  123. oldbrooklynfan

The thing is they have to start scoring runs sooner or later.
The sooner the better, before they start disappearing.

  124. enchantedbeaver

I wouldn’t put too much stock in ‘Druw’s HR, there have already been 6 in that game and they’re only in the bottom of the 3rd. Pop-ups fly out of Vegas.

  125. shad78@yahoo.com

I won’t but I hope he come back and kill the balls and ended up with at least an average off at least .260, 25 homeruns and 90+ rbi’s.

  126. tradejuanpypaperbag

eric – Aren’t they already the fall guys to some degree? I still think with time together, it will get better. If Andruw and Furcal come back healthy, then those might be the two veterans that might be able to help in the spark for this team. I appreciate Kent as a ballplayer, but he’s not the veteran these young players need. They need veterans that are going to help build them up, not tear them down. Eventhough Andruw has had his issues, if he comes back healthy, I can see him being a veteran bringing some good to the young players. I think he was just too caught up in what he was doing wrong to help others. Pierre and Kent had no excuses not to be helpful. All we heard from them is complaining and insults about the young players.

  127. enchantedbeaver

Agreed nells. Kent’s just a bitter old fart because he hasn’t gotten his ring, and we all see Pierre as having had to whine to get his playing time. Neither’s suitable to lead anyone. Andruw seemed to make a connection with the youngsters as did Ferk. If those two come back to take the pressure off them, then I think we start seeing some of the old kids coming back.

  128. tradejuanpypaperbag

The question remains “if” they come back. This rehab assignment is longer than people think and all it’s going to take is one tweak for either one of them to go right back on the DL. I am hoping for the best with those two. I really wanted an outfield of Ethier, Jones and Kemp back before the season started. It just wasn’t the Andruw we signed up for as many of our songs have pointed out. 🙂

  129. oldbrooklynfan

    Monthly Record This year
    March/April……14 13
    May……………..13 15
    June…………….11 16
    TOTAL………….38 44
We’re due for a good month.

  130. shad78@yahoo.com

It suck Kent going in the hof without a ring and Pierre has one and never going to the hof.

  131. enchantedbeaver

Pretty much anything in the desert is a launching pad. 328 down the lines and 433 dead center. Also have to figure that these are old vets facing AAA pitching. Ferk 1 for 3 (dbl), Nomore 0 for 2 with a walk, Jones 1 for 1 (HR) plus a walk.

I’d like to see Nomore make it back if nothing else than to be a PH. Much rather he have the ABs than Sweeney, but I’d be willing to bet that we’ll end up optioning LaRoche, DFAing Maza, and who knows who else so that JoJo can keep Berroa and Sweeney on the bench because they “get it.”

  132. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

enchanted, i highly doubt joe torre thinks berroa “gets it”. i’ve seen his comments about sweeney, but i haven’t seen a single good thing he’s said about berroa. he just doesn’t have any other real options, and so he’s just stuck with berroa until furcal is back.

  133. kpookiemon

Brad Ausmus and Mark Loretta had great key at-bats tonight. Are they better than Kemp or Ethier or Loney? No, just more experienced. And as everyone with a pulse has been saying, give the young guns the experience…give them the ABs…give them the innings. This year, next year, whatever it takes.

“Have you ever been experienced? Not necessarily stoned, but beautiful.”

Keep the faith; the Dodgers have a beautiful future.

  134. tradejuanpypaperbag

Thank you PierreEW for the update –
    .
I am remaining optimistic that we will be just fine. I am going to be there in a week so hopefully I can bring them some central California luck with me for their series against the Braves. The CWS champs (Fresno State Bulldogs) just live down the road about 45 minutes and look what they accomplished. There’s nothing impossible with any team right now. We have to remember what Colorado did at the end last year. They came up out of nowhere in a real short period of time. If we give these young players a chance to work together, I have no doubts they can do the same thing. We have to believe what ndeschenes believes. This doesn’t mean I won’t be frustrated, and I will probably continue to write songs, etc, but maybe one day those songs will be all about our young gun dynasty going to the world series, and we will be able to look back on the “not so nice ” songs and remember where we came from. Won’t that be a great day when every song will be about the good things the Dodgers are doing. If we can think of this many songs about what the Dodger organization is doing wrong, think of all the songs that can be done if they are doing a good job. 🙂

  135. enchantedbeaver

I’m just thinking because Berroa is a vet, JoJo would rather have him than Maza, even though it should be the other way around. Sweeney’s the logical choice to be the third odd man out, but nothing JoJo does has anything to do with logic or skillset. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ned trade DY in order to keep Sweeney. THAT’S how crazy they both are.

Jones flew out to center in his third trip.

  136. northstateblues

Off of work. Winds blowing in the northcentral valley, so it didn’t look like a Cheech and Chong set outside.

Welcome to the jungle, Amy. I like Juan Pierre too, as long as he performs. It angers me that someone with his drive hasn’t been up to his potential since donning the Blue. Everyone says he’s a second half guy, but looks like we won’t find out for a while if that’s true. I just want the best players out there, and am hoping Juan will soon join the ranks, we need his speed.

Another loss, that’s a bummer. Glad to see that Repko’s back in the fold. With Conte as trainer, though, if he went down we wouldn’t see him until Dodger Stadium’s 50th, but Stan would be glad to tell us that he’s fine, just walking it off.

  137. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

oh, no doubt enchanted, i know what you’re saying.. torre is crazy like that.. haha.. just saying that all torre’s crazy thinking STILL can’t justify berroa. he’s never been good, he’s not that experienced, and he sucks. and maza was struggling before berroa even got here. but we all know that no matter what happens offensively, maza is a much better defender..

  138. tradejuanpypaperbag

northstateblues – eric was asking about Lake Tahoe – do you know what it’s like up there in terms of fires and such?

  139. jungar@wsgcorp.com

It would be so nice to see Jones and Furcal come back strong. I’d like to see DeWitt moved down and Nomar and Andy in competition till the end of month at 3b. With Nomar’s injury history I may have my lineup I wanted in Spring. I wanted Jones. I hope he does well. I am so happy to not have to watch JP for 4-6 weeks. Time for Kemp and Ethier to step up and make Juan a pinch runner from here on out. Penny and Kurdora are also key. If 3 of 4 of those guys can perform at pre injury levels, were good.

  140. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

it is embarassing to be the same anything as the pirates.. and yet, they’re back by double digits, and we’re only back by 3.. gotta love that NL Worst.

  141. dodgereric

That’s exactly what I mean, nelly. I think that Joe loves his coaches as much as his PVLs and he went into this season knowing that should the season turn out as a dissapointment, he has a “get out of jail free” card. The kids. How else can you explain his constant comments as the season has progressed? Although he has complimented them on occasion, he hasn’t hesitated to call out their shortcomings.

I’ve spent a lot of time and researched all of Torre’s speeches in the last 3 months. Here are the total numbers of speeches that contained critizism of the young players on the team:

    Billingsley – 17
    Kershaw – 9
    Martin – 23
    DeWitt – 38
    LaRoche – 19
    Loney – 487
    Ethier – 1, 564
    Kemp – 42, 599
    Young – 22

Because I am a fair-minded individual, here are the total numbers of speeches that contained critizism of the veterans on the team:

    Penny – 0
    Proctor – 0
    Schmidt – 0
    Bennett – 0
    Berroa – 0
    Garciaparra – 0
    Kent – 0
    Sweeney – 0
    Jones – 0
    Pierre – 0

Hmmmm, not really fair-and-balanced, is it?

I’d like to say ‘thanks’ to the new statistics website, “JoeTorreLiesConstantlyAboutHowBadlyTheVetsAreDoingAndHereAreTheStatsToProveIt.com for this boggling information.

  142. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

wow, he only said bad things about kemp 42,599 times? i coulda sworn it was over 50,000 =/

  143. tradejuanpypaperbag

eric – 42,599 for Matt and 1,564 for Andre – Are you kidding me?!! That is just absolutely horrible if those numbers are true, especially Matt 🙂

  144. tradejuanpypaperbag

Now,enchanted – you had your fun today already. Let eric have his turn 🙂 LMAO!!!! eric – enchanted has been down in the abyss most of the day until the news about Pierre surfaced. Now, he’s ready to play LMAO!!!

  145. dodgereric

I like how scott (I think) said it way up there somewhere:

    Fire Joe
Fire the guy who hired Joe
Fire the guy who hired the guy who hired Joe

    Or something like that.

  146. tradejuanpypaperbag

scott has been coming up with some pretty clever things lately 🙂 Still love the list of the “Top Ten Things Pierre Works on Eight Hours Before a Game” sorry JP – it’s still funny even though you are hurt. We do hope you get better soon. 🙂

  147. enchantedbeaver

Yeah and it figures Repko would go 0 for 5 with 4Ks too!!

Torre’s probably on the phone to Juan right now, “We’ll always have Paris…”

  148. enchantedbeaver

Of all the stadiums and all the ballparks in all the world, he has to play in ours.

Play ’em Torre. If he can take it, so can I. Play as Juan Goes By.

  149. dodgereric

Joe: How long was it we had, honey?
Juan: I didn’t count the days.
Joe: Well, I did. Every one of them. Mostly, I remember the last one, the wild finish. A guy standing on the dugout steps in the sunshine, with a comical look on his face, because his insides have been kicked out.

  150. enchantedbeaver

    You must remember this…
    Enchanted still is pissed…
    ‘Til JoJoTo says good-bye,
The bloggers sit around and cry
    As Juan goes by…

And when Joe and Juan woo
We all know that we’re screwed
    On that you can rely
The young guns need not apply
    As Juan goes by…

  151. enchantedbeaver

Just remember Ned I have this gun pointed directly at your brain.

[Ned] That is my least vulnerable spot!

  152. dodgereric

I was informed you were the most creative song-blogger ever to visit ITD. That was a gross understatement.

  153. tradejuanpypaperbag

I am hearing Pierre and Torre love songs in my head now 🙂
    Thank you very much!!! 🙂
    .
“Endless Love”, “I Will Always Love You”, “Can’t Stop This Feeling” and my kids classic “You Are My Sunshine” – I am a very visual person you know 🙂 LMAO!!!!!

  154. dodgereric

    You are my sunshine,
    my only sunshine.
    You make me happy
    when you can play.
    You’ll never know dear
    how much I love you.
Please don’t take my JuanP away.

  155. tradejuanpypaperbag

The songs today were all great – kpookiemon’s “Just Gimme Some Truth” was pretty good today considering he only had to change one word – how fitting was that!!! CP’s got number 2 under her belt and then MLK had time to fit one in today too. It was a good song/poem writing day today. 🙂

  156. enchantedbeaver

Appropriately, this is a song by the STRANGELOVES. A song just for JoJo who misses his Juan. To: I Love Candy:

I know a guy who’s fast and fleet
He’s so fine, he can’t be beat
He’s got everything that I desire
Sets the summer sun on fire
    .
    I want Juanpy
    I want Juanpy
    I want Juanpy
    I want Juanpy
    .
Go to see him when the sun goes down
Ain’t no finer guy in town
You’re my guy, what the Neddy ordered
So so fleet, but your throws are shorter
    .
    I want Juanpy
    I want Juanpy
    I want Juanpy
    I want Juanpy
    .
Juanpy in left field, there’s nothing better
But I like Juan cuz’ he’s my table setter
Some day soon I’ll make him mine
Then I can play him all the time
    .
    I want Juanpy
    I want Juanpy
    I want Juanpy
    I want Juanpy
    .
    Juanpy in the morning time,
    Juanpy in the hot sunshine.
    Juanpy baby can’t you see,
All he needs is a better knee.
    .
    Juanpy in the morning time,
    Juanpy in the hot sunshine.
    Juanpy baby can’t you see,
All he needs is a better knee.
    .
    (Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey)
All I want is you Juanpy!
    (Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey)
All I want is you Juanpy!

  157. tradejuanpypaperbag

LMAO!!! Way to ruin a good kid’s song 🙂 Are you going to include hand movements to that one too? LMAO!!! You know the original has hand movements LMAO!!!! LMAO!!! I can’t stop laughing – too funny !!! I am trying to think of hand movements now LMAO!!!!!!

OK about the youth movement its a question of do we want to win now or like 3 years from now cuz I think that is when they are actually gonna start winning and some of these young players might not live up to there expectations remember EDWIN JACKSON perfect example #1 prospect turned into nothing he sucks and they thought so highly of him

I dont know about you guyz but I actually want to win this year not 3 4 5 6 7 100 years from now we have been waiting 20 years and nothing has happened the youth movement wont work some of them will become Great like Kemp and some avarage like Ethier and some will suck like laroche i just dont see it we cant hit and you want this lineup

    1. Repko
    2. Loney
    3. Martin
    4. Kemp
    5. Ethier
    6. Dewitt
    7. Laroche
    8. Young

WOW GREAT LINEUP IS THAT WHAT YOU REALLY WANT TO SEE NEXT YEAR? WE CANT SCORE NOW IMAGINE WITH THAT LINEUP

NED IS ON THE HOT SEAT IF HE DOESNT MAKE A MOVE HES GONE AND HE KNOWS IT HE KNOWS IF HE DOESNT MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION HE WILL BE FIRED TRADE ETHIER AND LAROCHE PLEASE GO OUT AND GET A HITTER SO WE CAN WIN NOW AND IN THE FUTURE AS WELL I’M SICK AND TIRED OF THE DODGERS TELLING US JUST WAIT JUST WAIT ONE MORE YEAR JUST WAIT ANOTHER YEAR WHAT HAS HAPPENED ALL THESE YEARS NOTHING COMMON MAN WE NEED A CHAMPIONSHIP IN THIS CITY OF THE DODGERS WE HAVE BEEN THERE THROUGH ALL THE BAD BUT THE DODGERS HAVE NOT GAVIN ANYTHING BACK I JUST HOPE THIS IS THE YEAR

    Good timing………….

    The 4 Seasons

Let’s hang on to what we’ve got
Don’t let go Ned, we’ve got a lot
Got a lot of good young players
Hang on hang on hang on
    To what we’ve got

You say you’re gonna go and call it quits
Gonna chuck it all and break our team to bits
(breakin up) I wish you’d never said it
(breakin up) No no we’ll all regret it

That little chip of diamond on your hand
From the ’02 Giants, that loser band
(for your love) Out here we don’t count pennants
    Champs only for our tenants

Baby (don’t you go) Baby (oh no no)
(think it over and) Don’t trade!

Let’s hang on to what we’ve got
Trading players is your blind spot
Just dump all those lousy vet’rans
Hang on hang on hang on
    To the kids we’ve got

    There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do
I’d pay any price to trade jobs with you
(patch it up) Give me a shot at GM
(patch it up) They’d never know what hit ‘em

Juanpy’s mother’s cryin’ at the door
Nomar doesn’t want to pinch hit no more
(open up) Sweeney’d be sitting, wonder’d
    (open up) Why I don’t like .100

Baby (don’t you know) Baby (oh no no)
(think it over and) Just leave!

Let’s hang on to what we’ve got
Don’t trade no one, you won’t get squat
If you do, we’ll put a hit out
Hang on hang on hang on
    To what we’ve got

  160. tradejuanpypaperbag

Yes, I do want that lineup, and with the exception of Martin, there is not one player that has had a full year of playing consistently every day. And until the management decides to stop getting PVLs and insisting on playing them regardless of proven statistic over statistic that they aren’t cutting it for the veterans they are supposed to be, those young players and their talent are being wasted. And if you think going and getting another proven vet is the answer, just look at our list on the DL now. They were proven veterans and look where it’s gotten us – a whole lot of money sitting on the DL with nothing to show for it. It was mentioned earlier today about Matt Holliday. He too has been on the DL this year, and I have stats that back up the fact that he is doing no better than Ethier and Kemp with 30 more PA than Ethier in the past month. As I said earlier, if Furcal and Jones come back healthy, than I have no problems letting them have their spots back, but Kent and Pierre have not helped this team in building it, they have only managed to help in tearing it apart 🙂

  161. shad78@yahoo.com

Leave Edwin Jackson alone he was rush up to soon when we called him up just like Beltre. What position would Young played? He’s terrible at 2md bases and that why he was moved to the OF,

  162. ghfgdgdsg

    WE NEED HOLLIDAY
OK LET ME ASK YOU ONE THING DID ANDRE EITHIER LAST YEAR WIN RUNNER UP IN MVP VOTING AND LED HIS TEAM TO THE WORLD SERIES AND HE ONLY DROVE IN ABOUT 130

BUT EITHIER IS BY FAR BETTER OF COURSE HE IS A PROVEN STAR YEA RIGHT!!!

  163. tradejuanpypaperbag

We are not talking about last year, and if memory serves me correctly, Ethier once again, did not play a full year. He platooned with Gonzo and Kemp. We are talking this years stats.

  164. shad78@yahoo.com

No way Holliday is terrible outside of that launching pad in Colorado so don’t be fool. Ethier can hit on the road and at home Holliday can’t.

  165. kpookiemon

eduardo, I kind of like that line-up, too, though we need a shortstop in there, minus one outfielder. But still, why not? Personally, I can wait a couple years. These PVL stopgaps have netted zero, nada, zilch over the past 20 years. If you want to win consistently, tighten the defense, keep running stud pitchers out there, and hang with the young bats. I agree not all will be stars, but the Dodgers need to find out NOW who those players might be, not later. And isn’t it a heck of a lot more exciting to watch these guys mature into a potential dynasty than it is to watch over-the-hill vet–becasue NO ONE is going to trade you a star in his prime. Free agency? A black hole.

  166. dodgereric

Sorry shad, yeah, I checked your links. It’s interesting to hear how the fans of other teams want the guys that some here want to trade away.

eduardo, you need to check the Holliday stats that nelly has provided. They don’t lie. And what makes you think that the Rockies would trade in the division? The only way they’d do that is if we overpaid. WAAAAAY overpaid. We need to be smarter than that.

  167. tradejuanpypaperbag

Jones was a star – is he now?
Pierre was a star – is he now?
Kent was a star – is he now?
Garciaparra was a star – is he now?
Schmidt was a star -is he now?
Common theme is “was”. I am not saying Holliday is a “was” but why take the chance. We haven’t had any luck with so-called proven vets. Heck the gnats are trying to unlaod their vets, we should be doing the same, not getting more.

  168. aeversw

Pierre was a star…Then teams and pitchers started making adjustments and Pierre has since to catch up. Some veteran.

  169. enchantedbeaver

Getting late, but before I go I’d like to dedicate this one to Joe and Juan. I know you two can’t be together right now but, maybe this will help cheer you up… a little Tony Orlando and Dawn…

Hey, Juan, whatcha doin’ out there?
    Runnin’ the bases at night
While I sit right beside you?
    I can see a vet’ran playing.
I can see your buttocks swaying.
    One hit would floor me,
    But two I’d adore thee,
    I love you.
    .
    Oh, my Juanpy,
    Bunt three times
To the pitcher if you want me.
    (Mmm-hmm) pop twice to left
    If the answer is no.
    Oh my Juanpy,
    (Plop plop plop)
Means you’ll be in there the whole day
    (Whoa) Twice out to left
    (pop, pop)
Means you won’t play for Joe
    .
If you look at your stat sheet tonight
Though your not slugging my heart strings your tugging away
(Oh) Read how many times I played you
How in media I praised you
And when Andre said there’s a hole in your head Joe
    I sat him
    .
    Oh, my Juanpy,
    Bunt three times
To the pitcher if you want me.
    (Mmm-hmm) pop twice to left
    If the answer is no.
    Oh my Juanpy,
    (Plop plop plop)
Means you’ll play for me the whole day
    (Whoa) Twice out to left
    (pop, pop)
Means you won’t play for Joe
    .
    String Interlude…
    .
    I can see a vet’ran playing.
I can see your buttocks swaying.
    One hit would floor me,
    But two I’d adore thee,
    I love you.

  170. shad78@yahoo.com

I love how we drafted Kemp in the 6th round and every team are dying to have a guy like him on our team.

  171. tradejuanpypaperbag

Oh enchanted – it really is your bed time LMAO!!!! You have had a very hard day LMAO!!! It’s amazing how Pierre is still the number one topic – probably for 3 more years – oh my goodness. We will have set some sort of record by then I’m sure 🙂 good night enchanted – we will blog you in the morning 🙂

  172. shad78@yahoo.com

Look at nymike830 posted beltran delgado heilman and niese for loney kemp and billingsley. Oh please what a laughing.

  173. kpookiemon

I’ve been a Deadhead seems like forever but not too many people know their tunes. So I picked a song from their “tourist” catalog, something ya’ll might have heard:

Driving that train, the owner’s to blame,
Frank McCourt you better watch your team.
    Trouble ahead, trouble behind,
And we hope that notion just crossed your mind.

Trouble ahead, oh JoJo and Ned,
Take our advice we’d like Logan instead.
GM’s sleeping, Manager has no clue,
Team’s on the wrong track and we’re gonna blame you.

Driving that train, the owner’s to blame,
Frank McCourt you better watch your team.
    Trouble ahead, trouble behind,
And we hope that notion just crossed your mind.

Trouble with Ned is the trouble with Joe,
Got two good eyes but they still don’t know.
Come round September, team’s in the dumper,
The fans all scream but the owner just beams.

Driving that train, the owner’s to blame,
Frank McCourt you better watch your team.
    Trouble ahead, trouble behind,
And we hope that notion just crossed your mind.

And we hope that notion just crossed your mind.

  174. dodgereric

Nice way to leave the building, e! LMAO!!!!

    Sorry shad,

    The Supremes

Set us free, why don’t cha Frank
Get out our lives, why don’t cha Frank
cause you don’t really want us
You still love the Boston Sox
    You don’t really need us
And you will just not fire Ned.

Why do you keep a-coming around
    Pretending you’re an owner?
Why don’t you just sell the team
    Become a live organ donor?
    Let us get over you
So we can go back to winning. Yeah.

Set us free, why don’t cha Frank
Buy someone else with your piggy bank
    You don’t really need us
And you will just not fire Ned.
Now you don’t really want us
And Joe is really just PR

You say although we don’t win
You still wanna be the boss
But how can we fans sit back
When you’re happy with 50,000 and a loss
And there ain’t nothing we can do about it

Wo-o-wo-o-o, set us free, why don’t cha Frank
Wo-o-wo-o-o, if you leave we’ll fill your tank
Set us free, why don’t cha babe
Get out of our lives, why don’t cha babe

You claim you still want to win
As long you can build Dodgerland
But what if it just don’t pan out
You wanna still hold on to us
You just want us for yourself
So let us find somebody else hey!

Why don’t you be a man about it
    And just sell the team
Now you don’t care if they charge me
    Six bucks for ice cream
Go on, get out, get out of our lives
And let us sleep at night
cause you dont really love us
    Save us from our plight…

  175. kpookiemon

Dodger Untradeables…or I’ll come after Ned:

    Matt Kemp
    Russell Martin
    James Loney
    Blake DeWitt
    Clayton Kershaw
    Chad Billingsley
    Jonathan Broxton

  176. dodgereric

Yeah, we did, kpookie! LOL! I’d stay up all night if we could make him turn tail back to Boston!

Gotta turn in before I turn in more drivel. Thanks to nelly and northstate for the fire links. I appreciate the assistance.

    Good night and God Bless………

  178. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

one of my friends wrote me saying how he will miss pierre and his speed and how he’s been the most consistent.. this was my response.. i thought i’d share:

consistent at what? consistent at being bad?? his OBP is AWFUL and his numbers have been declining since he got the lead off spot. i’m SICK of people running on his sorry excuse of an arm. i’m not saying i don’t feel bad he’s hurt, but after hearing torre say kemp and ethier would be fighting for 1 spot once jones returns, i’m glad pierre got taken out of the running. this team needs to prepare for the future and kids can’t get better if they don’t get to play. all the expensive, weak vets are just pushing back our chance for success. they’re just prolonging the misery. i’ve waited 20 years, and i can wait a couple more.. but i don’t want to wait another 20 because they’re afraid to let their talented kids develop into stars and keep putting veteran roadblocks in the way.

don’t worry about speed. repko, kemp, and russ all have speed. speed isn’t just stealing, it’s running 1st to 3rd, 2nd to home, tagging up on fly balls. we’re capable. pierre wouldn’t have to steal bases if he could hit doubles in the first place..

  179. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

eduardosoto.. i understand what you’re saying about winning now. obviously we ALL want to win now. it’s been FAR too long, and it’s hard to keep saying “next year..” but do you understand that there are too many holes, and too many unknowns to think you can just pick up someone and you’ll be handed a world series? we do not have a problem that can be fixed with one person. and even if we tried, what makes you think that person would be so successful? because we’ve had such amazing, notably good pickups in the past?? baseball is not a one man sport, and if we were just ONE person away from being the best, why are we below .500? and if you’re suggesting bringing in multiple new parts to build an immediate contender and changing out all the kids, do you really trust colletti to do so??

we’re not all saying that trusting these kids is going to guarantee us a world series.. we’re simply saying we’ve tried the free agency thing, and it hasn’t worked. so we want to try this new route. NO ONE builds a world series contender in one season. it takes time for so many reasons.. i’m not trying to win one year, and then be horrible again. i want to be a contender, year after year, and i believe that keeping these kids together is our best shot. how can you watch these kids and not want to see them be successful? i think they’re an amazing bunch, and yeah, they’re frustrating at times, but i’m willing to wait, and hope. because i truly do think they’re our best shot.

they’re not ALL going to become stars (some have already started to be), because a prospect is a prospect for a reason. but you have to let them play to truly evaluate what you have. letting them go too early is a huge mistake. maybe you trade a few of them later when you have a better grasp of what you have.. but that’s when you’re closer to being a complete team, and when you know you are one or two parts away. as much as i love my team, WE are not there yet. not close. and so we wait..

  180. iheartaethier16@yahoo.com

Pierre is a sorry excuse for a baseball player and it’s sad some people keep making excuses for his flimsy a**… If he’s got such great speed he should go and run track in the olympics. Get over it, he’s old worn out and would be better off stealing cars than bases on the Dodgers.

  181. iheartaethier16@yahoo.com

for all these vets we’ve paid big bucks for to sit on the DL cus of injuries month after month need to get over themselves… they’re OLD and DONE… they need to ACCEPT that and go find something else they can be good at. Had their chance & glory and now it’s the younger players turn.. Torre, he’s worn out and overrated.. Eventually this game of baseball will outrun him before he thinks he can outrun it… so let him make a fool out of himself.. as we can all see we know where the potential stands… it’s Frank, Ned, Torre, and the rest of the so called “management team” who look like the lauging stock in the world of sports. They should be ashamed of the way they represent themselves and their team and should not be looked up upon by anyone who loves baseball or any sport for that matter… whatever happened to playing for the love of the game? Money. That’s what happened, everyones dying to be filthy rich & they don’t care who they hurt, what they have to do, and the conspiracy they have to pull to get there… It’s sad to know that sports will never hold the kind of purity it once had.

  182. northstateblues

wow, someone else is burning the 3-hours-after-midnight oil.

shad, those trade offers were laughable, heh. I needed a good laugh right now, and looks like Mets and Mariners fans are having delusions.

  183. northstateblues

iheartandreethier, if you want to look for the purity in sports that ESPN often eschews to show which athletes are in legal troubles, check out Ross Porter’s “Real Sports Heroes” site at http://www.realsportsheroes.com . It’s definitely good to read the good that athletes do in sports, and it’s even better to hear Ross Porter’s voice again. We could be tied with the Yankees in World Championships by the time Frank McCourt is finished, and I still wouldn’t forgive him for treating Ross Porter like garbage. Joe Amalfatano, too.

  184. messagebear@msn.com

There’s always the decision of whether to build toward a real dynasty and let the young players play, or whether to trade a few for a better balance and get a better chance to win now. What we all have to remember, and I think most of us do, is that it will fall to Ned to do that negotiating and trading. Does anybody trust Ned to do that? I think we know that answer, and that’s why we would like to see the young players play, because chances are good that we’ll get better. Trying to do it Ned’s proven way will only make the team worse.

FIRE NED NOW, if not sooner!!!

  185. tradejuanpypaperbag

eduardo – just a couple more thoughts for you. I do hope you realize Matt Holliday has been playing at least 2 more years and is two years older than the oldest player on the Dodger roster you provided. I was all for Holliday getting the mvp for last year, but it was his time and his place. I have no doubts that Russell Martin will be there some day as will probably many of our other players, but to hold up the mvp titlle against players who haven’t even experienced a full year of playing time and are at least 2 years younger in playing in the mlb as is their age is premature to say the least. I don’t think there is too many fans on this board that would care about an mvp title as long as our Dodger players work as a team to be the best Dodger team they can possibly be, and if they do that, I have no doubts will we see this team going to the fall classic for many years to come, not just one. BTW – the rox lost last night 12-8 to the pads and Holliday was 1 for 4 with 2 runs and a walk playing at home. The rox had 1 homerun as a team and San Diego had 4.

  186. carcyn@sbcglobal.net

Runs are hard to come by for the dodgers as of late.
So will give the green light to the pitcher to swing away with runners on 3rd and 1st and no outs.
The hell was that about yesterday letting pitcher swing away. He should have bunted the runner over to give Repko the chance to with two runners on base.
Does Torre have his head up his *** or what?

  187. enchantedbeaver

Yes carcyn, Torre has his head buried deep in his nether region, but Stults is a good hitter so he got the opportunity to swing the bat. Certainly no worse than letting Sweeney have a shot. Could/should he have bunted? Probably, but in the end it didn’t matter because Repko K’d himself.

I can’t believe I’m giving Torre a pass on this one!!!

    Good Morning Dodger Blue Fans,
What can we say, that game just didn’t go our way, but I feel this team will find their way and it will be great. At least we had our hits last night, we just had our usual problem with getting those boys home. Have a wonderful day 🙂

good morning enchanted 🙂 Are we feeling better knowing that JP will be out 4-6 weeks (that’s the latest news). Who would have thought? Somebody was looking out for this team and it’s fans. It was even reported that once Andruw comes back, Ethier and Kemp will man the corners – boy sounds like dejavu (It’s how the year started). Funny how things sometimes come full circle for now anyway.

I see everyone was up well past midnight last night and in a creative mood. Good songs all !!! If we could get the youngin’s as prolific on the field we’d be in business.

  191. tradejuanpypaperbag

Boy! I’ll trade a song for a hit or a run (preferably the run of course) any day. I think this young team is going to figure it out real soon because I am sure they are going to be out to prove their management and the media that they don’t need no stinkin’ vets to win. I think yesterday was just a mix of Repko’s first day on the job and Matt, unfortunately, not being able to play. Repko said himself, he was trying too hard, and we could all see that as well. I think they are all trying too hard, and they just need to trust their own instincts, which I’m sure is blurry at best with the clowns running the show. It really is coming down to management in all aspects of this team right now. There is not one single thing that points to a player’s inability to play the game (Berroa and Sweeney being an exception). It’s just a total mismanagement of a wonderfully talented team. Look how much better we were at the beginning before Joe supposedly figured this team out, and he figured it out all wrong at that.

  192. scott_in_arcadia

Thanks to Stan Conte and Erick Aybar for putting Juan on the shelf for 4-6 weeks. That should be time enough to see if the team can “survive” the HUGE loss of Juan Pierre. Any more of this BS from either the Times, Dodgers.com, or Torre himself and I am going to puke!

    Vets Rule!

    Kids Suck!

  193. ghfgdgdsg

wow Matt holliday is not a “was” he is only 28 he is the finest young player he is an all star he avarages 100 rbi’s a year away from coors I think he can still hit the ball

this is this years stats of how he does away from coors

Away Colorado Rockies 31 games 123at bats 15 runs 38 Hits 8 doubles 4 homeruns 12 rbi’s 58 total bases .401 on base percentage .472 slg percentage .309 batting avarage and if he played more this year they would be better then that

  194. tradejuanpypaperbag

scott – did you see this post below that eric posted last night about the number of times our young players are commented about in a negative light. These numbers, even the low ones, are way too much. However, Matt’s numbers are inexcuseable (not thrilled about Andre and James’ number either) How’s that for team building? uugghh!!!
That should be a list that is posted on a daily bases too so maybe somebody in the FO will start to hopefully notice as well.
    .

  195. tradejuanpypaperbag

Exactly – he hasn’t played all year so that is a big “if” and if you read my comment I never said he is a “was” but you are comparing him to young players who have not gotten to play a full year. I am not saying that Holliday will not have a good year, but we all know Ned’s history and we don’t want him to do anything stupid (he’s done enough damage already) Anyhow, I read this morning that the Cardinals want him – they can have him. No trading within the division – enough said.

  196. scott_in_arcadia

thanks nelly. Almost hard to believe, but at the same time, believable. We pounded out 11 hits last night against Oswalt, etc., and lost 4-1 to a good pitcher, but last night’s game was lumped in to another loss blamed on the kids.

  197. ghfgdgdsg

this is Robert Tims rumor mill

The Rocky Mountain News reports that Matt Holliday has drawn interest from the Dodgers, among several other teams. Hard to imagine Colorado trading within the division, but sending Matt Kemp and a solid pitching prospect might sway them. The Dodgers would be foolish to not consider such a deal. After all, Matt Holliday is exactly what the Dodgers hope Matt Kemp will become.

    http://dodgerdugout.com/Changeup.html

  198. scott_in_arcadia

Why can’t Dodger fans expect a little straight forward talk from the FO and coaches instead of this constant double talk propaganda we have to endure? It would be nice to all be on the same page and cheer this team on!

  199. tradejuanpypaperbag

Let Matt Kemp become Matt Kemp – he will be far better than Matt Holliday if given the chance. Why would we ever want to trade him to the Rox, only to have them accomplish what they did last year. They stormed through our division out of nowhere and went on to the WS. Who’s to say they won’t do it again, and you can honestly tell me you would rather see Matt Kemp on the other side, or any of our young players for that matter in a trade for a” maybe” this year when we could have years and years with all of these young players.

  200. tradejuanpypaperbag

Matt Kemp – 23 years old
Matt Holliday – 28 years old
Let Matt Kemp become Matt Kemp. Matt Holliday didn’t become a superstar overnight either:)

  201. enchantedbeaver

eduardo – I still don’t see the point in getting Holiday. This team is much more than one person away from contending for a title, plus you’d be giving up Kemp who in Coors would be a 40/40 man in a couple years, and a top pitching prospect whom after Lowe, Penny and Kuroda are gone you’re probably going to miss. The Rox GM is no fool (unlike Ned), so whatever you give up you know the Rox GM is getting the better end of the deal.

  202. dodgereric

Ho hum. Another day, another letter to the LA Times that they won’t print:

To the sportswriters of the LA Times,

I, for one, am very tired of the kid-glove treatment that Joe Torre is getting from the media. We’re not exactly talking about John McGraw here. His career managing record is somewhat less-than-pristine:

1977-81 NY Mets, 5th twice and 6th three times
1982-84 Braves, finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd, in that order
    1990-95 Cardinals, 2nd once, 3rd three times, 4th & 6th
1996-2007 Yankees, 1st place 10 times, 2nd twice. Won the Series 4 times in his first 5 years, but not after 2000, despite having by far the highest payroll in baseball every season.
I was optimistic when the Dodgers signed him. I am very disappointed. The veteran players have their best friend in him. They underperform without exception (whenever they manage to be healthy enough to play) and nothing derogatory ever gets printed or broadcasted about them.

The young players, however, have been assigned as the scapegoats for this season thus far. Despite having batting averages and on-base percentages that dwarf every vet on the team (excepting the injured Rafael Furcal), they are the ones continually singled out by the media for their shortcomings. Torre, for example, harps on “quality at-bats” and “stretching the pitch counts”. Look it up yourself, the kids are seeing way more pitches per at bat than the veterans “who get it”, Pierre and Kent. Yet it’s always the young players who Torre and Ned Colletti both say, “need to learn how to play the game”.

You are an over-rated manager Joe. We’re half-way through the season and nothing you do is working. Retire as soon as possible and take Colletti and Mark Sweeney and Stan Conte with you.

I know this is too long to print. Maybe you should give an amateur sportswriter a column for a day.

  203. enchantedbeaver

    OK, couldn’t resist…
    .
This one’s a special dedication from Joe to Juan. Get well soon Juan, Love JoJo.
    .
    Donny Osmond, Puppy Love:

And they call it Juanpy love.
Oh I guess its all for Joe.
How an old fart really feels,
And why he loves him so.
    .
And they call it Juanpy love,
Just because he’s on the team.
Tell Matt and Andre its not fair,
To horn in on Joe’s dream
    .
Now Joe cries every night for JP.
His tears are all in vain.
He hopes and he prays that maybe someday
He’ll saddle up Trigger once again.
    .
Jeffy, help me, help me, help me please
    Find my little turtle dove.
How can I, how can I tell him?
Where’s the Juanpy that I love?

  204. tradejuanpypaperbag

eric – thank you for trying 🙂 Last night’s articles were particularly bad due to Pierre’s departure I’m sure.

  205. tradejuanpypaperbag

eric – forgot to tell you – fabulous article!!! I hope they eventually print one of them.
    .
enchanted – what else do I say!! Donny Osmond says it all LMOA!!!! too early for this you know, well I forget you are not on California time LMAO!!!! I used to LOVE Donny Osmond when I was 8. That was before my love for Mike Scioscia days.

  206. tradejuanpypaperbag

eduardo – here’s more trade rumors involving Holliday so until all is said and done, they are just rumors.
    .
    Cards talking to Rox?
According to the Rocky Mountain News, the Cardinals have interest in both Matt Holliday, who is signed through 2009, and Brian Fuentes, who can be a free agent this coming winter. Each makes sense in a way, and each is hard to envision in a way.

Fuentes would be a rental, and likely an expensive rental (in terms of players to trade) at that. He would shore up an area of major need for St. Louis, left-handed relief, but to give up significant talent for two years of a lefty reliever is something it’s hard to see the Cardinals doing. Here’s what general manager John Mozeliak said in an interview with MLB.com on Sunday:

“If there are short-term solutions that make sense, where we’re not going to leave ourselves bare in say, 2010 or 2011, I think we could make that move. If there was a deal that could be had out there that is more than just two months, is for next year and maybe a year beyond that, that would be intriguing as well.”

Translated: they’re not going to sell the farm for 20 innings from Brian Fuentes.

As for Holliday, he does have the advantage of being signed through 2009, and the Cards could still use his pop in the heart of their order. But the club is flush with outfielders both now and going forward. Obviously, Holliday performs at a different offensive level than a lot of those guys, but it’s still somewhat questionable how much sense it would make for St. Louis to do such a deal — unless the return came in the form of outfielders going west to Denver.

    –Matthew Leach.

  207. tradejuanpypaperbag

The News quoted an Oakland source as saying the Athletics are less interested in Fuentes than left fielder Matt Holliday — for whom the Rockies will try to exact a handsome price, since they can hold onto him through 2009 — and center fielder Willy Taveras.
    .
eduardo – the word that scares me from this statement is handsome – at what cost are you willing to get a Matt Holliday? And, if the A’s get Matt Holliday, then more power to them. I will gladly cheer him on in Oakland. I think he is an outstanding player. I just don’t think the Dodgers need him because most of us are waiting for our Matt Kemp to become his own super star – the Bison 🙂

  208. enchantedbeaver

That’s what I was just sitting here thinking. I’m sure the Rox would take Ethier for Tavares straight-up – and Ned and JoJo are just idiots enough to do it.

  209. scott_in_arcadia

For me, Jones just has to bat around .250 with power to be useful, but even if Pierre comes back looking like Tiny Tim (Dickens version – not Ukulele version), Torre will sit Ethier or Kemp first so it doesn’t matter.

    IT JUST DOESN’T MATTER!

    IT JUST DOESN’T MATTER!

    IT JUST DOESN’T MATTER!

    IT JUST DOESN’T MATTER!

  210. enchantedbeaver

If Ned trades away the kids and sells the farm, then the D’s DESERVE another 20 years of nothing.

  211. enchantedbeaver

Its obvious though that LaRoche and DY are NEVER going to get their shot at anything, but you know all Ned would get for them are some magic beans.

  212. tradejuanpypaperbag

We are talking AAA pitching. We all saw what happened to Repko last night. Let’s see what happens in both games tonight. Then again, Joe’s going to play him regardless. He could go 0 for whatever and still get the start over Ethier and Kemp if Pierre were there, but that would be mostly because of Pierre love instead.

  213. tradejuanpypaperbag

I have been reading the trade rumor blog and there’s is nothing out there that we should be going after. Our pitching seems to be getting into their groove (with a few bumps), and I have faith the young players will turn it around. If we get a healthy Furcal and Jones back, we certainly won’t need anything. Nomar is another story. I would hate to see DeWitt and LaRoche suffer for that idiot move, but I would assume from past experienc, he will be the first one back on the DL out of these three.

  214. lny4loney

A lot of great songs since I was last here just 18 hours ago. My favorite line was this one: “Become a live organ donor?” from dodgereric’s Supremes takeoff at 12:13 a.m.

  215. dodgrdad14

    Eric,
Lake Tahoe isn’t to bad (smoke wise) last week it was horrible!!! I live down the hill from Tahoe and our weathermen show the sierra every night. I think by the time you go it should be pretty clear as it is clearing up a little more everyday.
    DNEL,
I tried to write back to you and say thanks for the concern!! buy my home computer doesn’t like this blog site and it is a pain in the A@$!! that is why I usually am on during the day at work!! 🙂

  216. crzblue2

Saw an interesting statistic last Sunday. Guess who the leader in the NL was last Sunday with RISP? Juan Pierre. As much as I complained about him before (but not nearly as much as most of you do here), I was surprised to see that.

  217. messagebear@msn.com

I’m beginning to hate Torre even more than I did Grady last year. I think he is so washed up and a generation behind, and the Yankees recognized that. Of course, our ownership and Ned, if he played any part in the hiring, are always years behind in evaluating baseball talent, so it’s no surprise that Torre will guide our fortunes for another two years.

  218. tradejuanpypaperbag

    Hey There Lonely Juan

Hey there lonely Juan, lonely Juan
Let me make your broken heart like new
Oh my lonely Juan, lonely Juan

You think that Andre and Matt can kiss my *ss
(and make your heart stand still)
But once you’re back on my team, you’ll see
No one can kiss my *ss the way you will
    The way you will
    .
Hey there lonely Juan, lonely Juan
Let me make your broken heart like new
Oh my lonely Juan, lonely Juan
Do you know this lonely Joe misses you
    .
Don’t you know this loney Joe loves you
    Ooh…
    .
Hey there lonely Juan, loney Juan
Let me make, let me make your heart like new, oh, yeah
Hey there lonely Juan, lonely Juan

  219. tradejuanpypaperbag

crsblue – I saw that stat at the A’s game on Sunday, and I was floored, but all the numbers in the NL weren’t very good. If you listen and read around the NL, many teams are going through the same issue with RISP, and is probably why we are horrible as division too. We just happened to be caught up in our own mess, but the gnats and the dbacks are both are dealing with the same issues of RISP. I pay a little attention to the dbacks because I have a few players on my fantasy team and they are struggling offensively like we are, my fantasy is suffering because of it. Our divisional games will be very telling with good pitching and nobody hitting. It will be a matter of who snaps out of it first and starts to hit the ball, while hoping your pitching staff isn’t ready to right you off.

  220. tradejuanpypaperbag

jnv – I figured you post from work. I know exactly what you are talking about with dysfunctional computers. I just happened to invest in a lap top recently because I had to be able to access work-related things from home without having to worry about whether the computer is going to work that day or not. Thanks for udating eric on Tahoe. I knew you and Northstateblues would have more first hand knowledge. Our news focuses on Mariposa/Oakhurst/Yosemite area and a little about the Santa Cruz mountains, but not much in the further northern areas.

  221. dodgereric

mlk, that was a Monty Python moment. I have them occasionally. 🙂

Thanks for the update, jnv. We’re rolling up there on Sunday and staying on the Nevada side at Zephyr Cove.

    Nice one, nelly! LOL!!

  222. scott_in_arcadia

    Eric,

Speaking of Monty Python…How about Torre’s lineups?

And now for something completely different…

  223. enchantedbeaver

    LMAO nells – good Juan!!!

If Ned has to trade a couple people for some “help” they should be Lowe and Kant. Shirley there has to be a contending team with a prospect or two to offer that can plat 2B.

  224. tradejuanpypaperbag

eric – too many love songs going through my head and every one has Pierre/Torre written all over it.
    .
Tahoe will wonderful – how beautiful it is up there! Tahoe is one of my favorites – gorgeous landscape!!!!
    .
It’s okay, I get to go down to your area next week – LA Monday thru Wednesday/San Diego Thursday – Saturday can’t wait!!

  225. enchantedbeaver

That Juan/SISP stat is quite misleading considering he only has 24 RBI. Tells me he hasn’t got enough pop to truely drive any runs in. The OFers play so shallow on him that even a hit to the OF can’t plate anybody from second.

  226. tradejuanpypaperbag

enchanted – Pierre’s number it is a percentage so it tends to look better than what we know it really is because his numbers are so small. It was a little weird to see his name at the top of that list, but then even stolen bases, he’s not first in the NL.

  227. scurtis1999

Rosenthal believes Matt Stairs would be a nice addition for the Dodgers, and notes that the Dodgers and Blue Jays have spoken. The Jays’ direction for ’08 is still uncertain though.

  228. tradejuanpypaperbag

enchanted – I have you and eric to thank for that song- I can’t get the love songs out of my head now. All I know is that jhall is going to have some catching up to do. Have you heard from him?

  229. enchantedbeaver

    nada nells.

Matt Stairs!!??? For God’s sake the guys 40 and a DH. What the hell would we do with him?? Jeez Rosenthal’s a complete putz.

  230. dodgrdad14

    Eric,
Zephyr cove for 4th is awesome. They shoot off the fire works from the lake around the casino area and you will have a killer view. We are going up the 12th till the 19th. We are staying at the North shore, we always stay on the south shore but we wanted to try something new.

  231. tradejuanpypaperbag

jnv – Zephyr cove is fabulous as it is – it’s got to be pretty spectacular on the 4th – wow!!!

  232. selltheteam

Maybe Conte has a cure to the disease. No, on second thought he also has the disease and is likely the main carrier of the disease.
    .
Here’s a little snippet from Diamong Leung at the Press-Enterprise.
    .
Conte, who is his second year with the Dodgers after coming over from the Giants, said he was maintaining belief in the individual conditioning and injury prevention programs he and his revamped training staff have implemented and that they would pay off in the long term

  233. scott_in_arcadia

On the main mlb pages for Yahoo and ESPN, there are no headlines reporting JP’s trip to the DL, I’m assuming because of the lack of significance. But what will the Dodgers struggling offense do now that Juan Pierre is out????

    FIRE JOE!

    FIRE NED!

KEEP CONTE! (as long as he’s treating Pierre)

  234. enchantedbeaver

How ’bout a pre-Labor Day memorial telathon to save the spread of this dreadful cranial-derierre inversion epidemic from affecting the rest of Dodger’s management (we don’t want it to get Ng or White.) CDC however has traced it back to when Frank bought the team and I’m afraid it has had a trickle down effect.

  235. tradejuanpypaperbag

Every single article I have read today is claiming this offense will be lost with Pierre on the DL, and that we can’t wait for the return of Furcal (yes), Jones and Garciaparra. Well, hello people, we certainly weren’t burning any trails in the division with Pierre playing, and with the exception of a healthy Furcal, the other two remain to be seen. One homerun in AAA and Andruw is going to come back and be the savior for this team – ya right!!
    .
eric – how are you keeping track of negative comments? There are a whole bunch in today’s articles.

  236. perumike

If Andruw comes back as the savior, he is more than welcome. However, I am very skeptical, and will believe it when I see balls flying out of Dodger Stadium.

  237. tradejuanpypaperbag

LMAO!!! We need to start marketing right away. Get the word out fast – that’s the key LMAO!!! Of course you need an acronymn – CDI

  238. enchantedbeaver

I don’t recall us scoring a lot of runs WITH Pierre. In fact, I remember a few days ago JP going 0 for 5 and the team being no hit, then shutout the next day. In fact, I think that 0-1 runs a game happened quite a bit with JP as the catalyst.

PERU – THE CRANIAL-DERIERRE INVERSION EPIDEMIC IS SPREADING FASTER THAN WE THOUGHT !!!

  239. enchantedbeaver

Give now, and help us help others with cranial-derierre inversion. You’ll be glad you did.

  240. selltheteam

If we’re going to do a tell-a-thon on the blog, we need people to cover the 2:00 am hour, the 4:00 am hour, and the 5:00 am hour. Those were the only times missed today.

  241. tradejuanpypaperbag

LMAO!!! good one perumikd and crash!!!
I can see that acronymn ending up on CSI too – probably CSI Miami so David Caruso’s Character Horatio can take off his glasses while saying “Alex, I think we have a CDI or maybe it’s an HIA. Looks like those Dodger fans out in LA were right after all. The question is, Alex, how are you going to find out who is who?” LMAO!!!!!

  242. messagebear@msn.com

Is that a Cranial – Derriere Inversion or Immersion? Hard to tell from Ned and Torre where the cranial ends and the derriere begins.

  243. scott_in_arcadia

Man, the Dodgers FO thinks that L.A. is head over heels in love with senile ol’ Joe Torre. Well, Frank and Ned, I’ve got news for you! We’re not as dumb as you think we are.

    CDI: Los Angeles

    Where head meets ***.

  244. enchantedbeaver

Ned’s really gonna have a problem at the end of the season when Frank’s foot is up there also.

  245. tradejuanpypaperbag

LMAO!!!!!! We can start our own show!!! LMAO!!!
It would have to be a reality show because nobody would believe it unless they saw it. They don’t believe anything now.

  246. enchantedbeaver

This sounds like a case for special undercover agent Scott Proctorologist!!! I think I see him slipping on his glove now and sauntering in from the pen with a slight grin…

  247. dodgrdad14

    Eric,
Bad news, I went out at lunch and the blue sky this morning has turned to smoke!! I am not sure why, I haven’t seen any new fires, it might be the wind???? But you have some time before you get up here.

  248. scott_in_arcadia

Now that would be some great irony, enchanted!

    Capt: What’d you find, detective?

Detective: It’s Joe Torre, sir. I don’t know how he did it, but he’s got his head way up his ***.

jnv – that’s not a good sign about the smoke. We had a report that the smoke was supposed to get worse by the weekend again, but sometimes we take our weather reports, etc with a grain of salt.

  252. dodgrdad14

    Dnel,
I haven’t heard anything yet about the smoke getting worse, I kept hearing it was getting better. But it seems the fire near Big Sur is getting worse. And there are a couple of fires up in forest hill area (about 40-50 from Tahoe area). I guess time will tell. I’ll keep an eye on it for Eric.

  253. dodgereric

Hi! I’m Susan Sarandon and I’d like to speak to you on behalf of the CAI Foundation.

For those of you unfamiliar with CAI, it’s the newest, most terribly frightening disease. It’s Cranial-Anal Inversion, and it’s affecting mill, um, thous, um hund, er, dozens of, um, well right now it’s actually only affecting a couple of people in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization, but those of us who care want to get this nipped in the butt, er bud before it spreads to the general public.

With me is Ned Colletti, General Manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers and one of those unfortunate people who have been stricken with this terrifying new disease. Ned, could you give us an insight as to how dibilitating this can be?

    “mphhmpdff, mphrmgsff mff mmphufff……”

Thank you, Ned! Please give generously. We need to halt this in its tracks.
