Gonna make it hot, hot, hot

It’s the start of summer and if you couldn’t tell by the date on the calendar, perhaps the 115-degree on field temperature will confirm that. Even in places with air conditioning, it’s warm.

Today’s game is on FOX, followed by the Hollywood Stars Game on the field. Kareem Abdul Jabbar is going to give the lineups on TV, so that should be pretty cool.

Before I post the lineup, here’s a really cool story about a former Dodger beat writer in the 1950s and 60s who went on to work for the Angels, George Lederer. If you take a few minutes to read it, I guarantee you’ll learn something new. I know I did.

Also, for those of you who tuned into DodgerTalk last night, we wound up postponing Ned’s appearance because the show didn’t start until close to midnight. He’s going to do it on another day this homestand, so keep tuning in.

Kind of figured Andre was going to get the day off. Glad DY is getting some reps. Let’s gitter done Dodgers.

  2. junkyardjamie

jhall – welcome back! You were very much missed around here. Plenty of people filled in for you and became enchanted’s twin – very funny stuff! Knew Andre would sit – he had a tough night last night – poor guy 😦 . At my son’s ballgame – just started – I will check in later 🙂

  3. jhallwally

Hey everyone. Been out of town for a couple of days. Went to Thursday’s game in Cincy. Nice win and a great time. Stults looked good. Nice songs Nelly. CP, way to go on your song and welcome to the deep end. Welcome BlueCrewGirl. Great posts/points everyone. Trade Lowe and DFA Sweeney now for god’s sake. Good to be back home and back on line.

    By jhall1218@yahoo.com on June 21, 2008 9:38 AM

Thanks Nelly. Glad everyone helped out our E. LOL.
Good luck to your son today. Let us know how he fares.

  4. bluecrewgirl

I pretty much knew Andre was going to sit today since there’s another lefty for the Indians. Would be nice if he was allowed to work his way through this little rough patch against lefties, but it seems like he’s always on a shorter leash than the rest of the young guys. Loney was slumping badly for a while there and he still played pretty much every day and Russ was off to a really slow start this season and he got to work his way out of, which he should have been allowed to do and Loney as well. It would just be nice if Andre was allowed to do the same.

Oh well, hope they get back on the winning track today. I’m going to see the new Get Smart movie with a friend so I won’t get to see the whole game today.

  5. kpookiemon

dnelson, Colletti was not on Dodger Talk last night because the host wanted to reschedule, given the late hour. Dodger talk began close to midnight. But, in case you’re still curious, here’s how it would have gone:

“Hi Ned. How come you can’t put together a winner?”
    “Well…that’s a matter of perspective…”

  6. enchantedbeaver

Why does it figure that the only big money acquisition Ned’s made that isn’t on the DL is the one we all wish was?

  7. jungar@wsgcorp.com

Here is a fun thought, imagine if Ned had not inherited Kemp, Loney, Martin, Bills, Lowe, Penny-I know there are more. But just those 6. Also if the dodgers hadn’t struck fools gold on Saito… Imagine the destruction and mayhem if we didn’t have the farm system maturing into big leaugers as Ned came aboard. We would have either a 200 million dollar team worse than the current one or we would have a 140 million team full of berroras, hillenbrands, nomars, muellers, hendericksons, tomkos, Baez

The only thing Frank should be thankful for are three things

    1. The major league minimum salary. Most of our players who actually play or should be playing are making it. Schmidt, Nomar and Furcal alone this year is more than our roster minus a few guys.

    2. really other than us diehards no one in LA cares anymore if the dodgers win. Most here have no idea what it was like to actually have the excitement of playoff baseball year after year. Someone said yesterday why would frank sign the Jones, Nomar etc if all he cared about was making money he could just play all kids for cheap..It’s sorta like there needs to be pretty bad movies and pretty bad TV for the masses…Or safe TV is the better word. Not everyone wants to watch arrested development, they need their comedy more straightforward so they watch everybody loves raymond? I don’t know. Not everyone watches The Wire but it was a much better drama than say CSI Miami and people watch that. It’s familar. It’s almost nostalgic. It’s Nomar and Jones and Kent and so and so…

    3. that schumucks will drive say at least 30 miles each way (I’m just guessing for sake of argument on avg) to go to dodger stadium (cause it’s fun and great for family time, i love going) pay 15 bucks to park (8 more than angel stadium BTW-why, does the piss and beer I walk on to get to the seats not as pissy and beery at DS?) 30 for seats now (again on avg) and another $5+ per beverage and dogs…

Were all sick of it Frank. You must see just how bad for the Dodgers Ned and dare I say it, Joe are. They live in the past which is why you watch Frank, I know you do and say things like ooh Saito, non save situation, i don’t know about this…and then u pace and then like us you see it happen again and yell at drink server in your luarxy box “he always blows it there why not try something else, he needs to come in with the lead..” just like we yell at the blog. And then you see Sweeny pinch hit and you know he will make an out just like we do. Don’t you wonder why it’s done like that? Joe will tell you thats baseball, Saito is my best guy and plus if I don’t bring him it will shake his confidence. Sweeney needs ABs to get going and is the best all time pinch hitter in baseball and if i dont go to him before DY he will looose confidence. He trusts his guys and all the other old school nonsense you guys are selling these days. Oh my gosh look guys our lovable Kent was so old school last night, he is back man. he is the man, 3 hole hitter getting 3 hits in one game for the second time all year. to raise avg to . 256 woo hoo. almost on base now at .295…oh heck yeah, i knew he’d come around…look at that ops, look at it. creeping towards .715…oh man thats great..old school how he takes his ABs like a proffesional hitter…and Jones will be back soon and so will Furcal (were waiting, we have sent the memo LOUD and CLEAR out to fans and internal org-including players: we can win, but only with them and dont worry they will be back soon) which along with Schmidt will belive it when they are actually playing (ah, hem Nomar)

  8. junkyardjamie

LMAO!!! Enchanted – it will be okay, we are here for you 🙂 Thanks for the info on Ned, kpookiemon – can’t wait for those softball questions, if it even actually happens now. Bluecrewgirl – I feel your pain – huge Andre fan myself (kind of an understatement) – lol! jhall – my son is starting pitcher – 1st inning: 2 K’s and a fly out 🙂

  9. ksparkuhl

Now we’re platooning our third basemen as well as our right fielder’s… gosh… Joe need’s to go back on his meds.

  10. kpookiemon

    Question #2:

“Hi Ned. You’re a career PR guy, right? How does that translate into creating a 25-man baseball roster?”
“Thank you so much for the phone call and the question. We’re very fortunate here in L.A. to have such knowledgable, passionate fans…”

  11. oldbrooklynfan

That was a tough game last night after Cliff Lee tired himself out.
We almost pull it off, but now it’s time to face C.C. Sabathia.
Maybe we can get passed him before the game ends and get a shot at a win.
    GO DODGERS!!!

  12. oldbrooklynfan

I hate these audio only Saturdays but it’s good to listen to our own Charlie Steiner & Rick Monday.

  13. bigkace@yahoo.com

I hate to sound negative, but I have a feeling we’re gonna get broke off today. God I hope I’m wrong.

  14. dodger 32

Why is Sweeney still taking up a roster spot? Things like this are why I don’t think the Dodgers are serious about winning .

  15. oldbrooklynfan

I don’t like the 26 pitch first, hope he settes down.
Then again credit the Indian batters.

  16. boblee14@yahoo.com

Pierre is so damn good, Torre will never take him out. Everyone else needs a rest but Pierre. He’s superman. Bull****…..

  17. juniorvarsity

i hate when Matt Vasgersian announces dodger games…he is a padre and always talks negative about the dodgers if you listen closely.

  18. enchantedbeaver

    Atta boy Juan.

How many other owners would put up with the track record Ned’s amassed in 2 1/2 years??

And JP’s the cream of the crop as far as the FAs he’s signed.

  19. jhallwally

Now’a E, you be nice to my’a little Juanpy. He just tryin’ to be’a nice to that nice man, CC.

  20. jhallwally

My Juanpy a good ball player. He show up early and stay late washing doz’a nice men, JoJo and Ned’s cars. LOL!!!!

  21. juniorvarsity

wow frank is giving out free waters today….that must kill him inside losing that 5 bucks every time someone gets a water. he might just have to making parking 20 dollars for the rest of the year to make up for it

  22. junkyardjamie

LMAO!!! I Know this is late, but Pierre has had 2 strikouts in 2 days – Mr. Torre, juan needs a day off. He is tired from playing every frickin’ day. If anything give the fans a day off from seeing his tiny *** out there 🙂

  23. kpookiemon

“Hello, Jamie? This is Snookie Bear. Your husband. Frank. Listen, Sweetness, um…WHO THE HECK GAVE THE OK ON FREE WATER???? We’re trying to turn a profit here!”

  24. oldbrooklynfan

Martin & Young had pretty good ABs reaching 3 balls each before grounding out. This might help later.

  25. boblee14@yahoo.com

Way to go Park. Let them show their power, even the pitcher
    .
That was Parks mattress pitch. he throws it up there and the opposing players lay on it.

  26. xuniquexjyx@hotmail.com

Good to see people laying into the pitcher who has been one of the most consistent arms on our team.

  27. enchantedbeaver

Guess no ones going to accuse Chan Ho of being a CC with the bat.

    SOS

    Back to sleep now. ZZZZZZzzzzzz

  28. oldbrooklynfan

Leave it to Kent to break up the no-no.
    Well a little no-no.
He’s also the first to get it out of the infield.

  29. jhallwally

  30. bluecrewgirl

Is Karros going to correct his partner and tell it’s Andy, not Adam that plays for the Dodgers?. He’s been calling him Adam the entire game.

  31. messagebear@msn.com

You can always count on Torre giving Sweeney his daily K ration. What a F****** idiot – both of them.

  32. perumike

Getting closer and closer to the Sweeney line. I love how Karros tried to defend him saying that it’s hard to be sharp when you don’t get starts. Is he not the “expert” at coming off the bench and getting hits?

  33. enchantedbeaver

Jeez jhall, if you click your heels and say it one more time, maybe Sweeney will go home!! LOL

  34. junkyardjamie

FABULOUS SONG JHALL! LMAO!!! By everyone’s comments it appears that my son’s game was more exciting. We won 15 – 6, michael pitched 4 innings out of 7, and the score was 9-1 when he left the game 🙂 PierreEW, even if juan gets the day off, do you really think this group would not talk about him – lol. 🙂

  35. bluecrewgirl

Great job by your son, DNelson. The Dodgers could use him. lol. They could use some of that kind of offense too.

  36. enchantedbeaver

I have to say, everytime I think Park’s about to revert back to his old form, he pitches a great game. Glad they got him off the hook.

  37. xuniquexjyx@hotmail.com

Seriously, Dodger fans need to start giving Park more credit. The last game he started he was great too. Loney muffed two tailor-made double play balls that led to the two runs that Park gave up in his 4 innings of work. Looks like Stults is the designated starter to replace Penny for now, but I wouldn’t mind if Park and Stults switch roles. Also, way to go Kemp! Showing off some of his five tools today!

  38. bluecrewgirl

Perumike, I love Karros, but you’d think he would have at least slipped Vasgersain a note by now to correct him. He hasn’t gotten the name right once today.

  39. junkyardjamie

I Know I’m late, but way to go Matty!! Thanks for the kudos – lots of fun watching michael pitch. I read the posts in between innings and they were playing all of our songs (real versions, of course), and it made me laugh even harder – thanks for the in-between-innings entertainment – lol!!! 🙂

  40. messagebear@msn.com

Andre showed about the most miserable swings you’ll ever see. I wouldn’t blame Torre if he sits Andre for another couple of games. Totally outclased by CC.

  41. oldbrooklynfan

I don’t see Sabathia going through two more innings.
If he does– more power to him.
of course not in this game.

  42. rodmky@optusnet.com.au

Just joined the game .. It’s Sunday morning down under .. I just wonder how low a BA has to go before someone like Sweeney is shown the front door. It’s becoming embarrassing.

  43. messagebear@msn.com

If everybody is waiting for Sweeney to hit the .100 mark, I’m pretty sure that he already did that several weeks back and then got a couple of hits, so that he can now try for it again.

  44. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

If Sabathia is out, we’ve got a chance. Their bullpen has more gas than Saudi Arabia. Proctor would fit in well there.

  45. bluecrewgirl

Andre is definitely letting himself get frustrated and press against lefties right how. Hopefully, he can get some time with Mattingly next time he meets up with the team to work on it. Saw him break his bat in half on the way back to the dugout. I think he will and should be back in the lineup tomorrow. The Indian’s pitcher tomorrow is a right hander.

  46. perumike

Did anyone notice Vasersian just said that Pierre “slapped” the ball back to the pitcher? I thought that was pretty funny since we have been saying he was Slappy for a long time.

  47. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

Paul Byrd is Maddux-like. Pitches around the plate with off-speed stuff. He will be as big a challenge as Lee & Sabathia were.

  48. jungar@wsgcorp.com

    Way to go Chan Ho.

Wow, JP shake yourself. Even for you. Your actually at least stats wise are playing worse than last year. Just a few more games and your OBP will be below last years as is your runs scored, OPS, Sluging and SB%

The good news is, only 3 more seasons left.

  49. jungar@wsgcorp.com

In 40 less AB’s Kemp just eclipsed his RBI total from last year.

Out of the three players that haven’t gotten a hit today 2 probably are worried they won’t play tommorrow because of it and the other probably shrugs it off and says it don’t matter anyways. I’ll just go get em tommorrow.

  50. juniorvarsity

kemp ran over to catch the ball near the track and it looked like he should have had it but it hit off the end of his glove

but at least brox got out of it.

    lets win this **** blue!!

  51. oldbrooklynfan

That was a another good inning by WADE but thanks to Russell(according to Monday) another scare.

  52. enchantedbeaver

    Pierre’s having a great day!!!

Definately need 8 more just like him eh Sarah (from Sarah’s Take.)

  53. messagebear@msn.com

If you have to lose the game, you can always enjoy the hitting display once Procto is in. What is it with these Torre a**h*** buddies Sweeney and Proctor – never fails to put them into critical game situations, and they never disappoint our blogger expectations.

  54. enchantedbeaver

Hell, why not let Wade struggle through if all you’re going to bring in is the proctologist.

Two more very winable games down the drain.

  55. messagebear@msn.com

Well, we have three more years of Pierre and two more years of Torre. At least spare us having another year of Ned. Fire Ned’s a** NOW!!!

  56. enchantedbeaver

Totally unbelieveable that Ned would allow Sweeney and Procto to stay on the team when you know your manager’s dumber than a door nail and will actually use them in critical situations.

  57. selltheteam

Time for another quick constructive blogger feedback poll.
    .
    Who sucks the hardest?
    .
    Brett Tomko
    .
    Scott Proctor

  58. junkyardjamie

I was hoping to get home and find out that we won the game 2-1, but obviously that didn’t happen. By your comments, I am guessing the proctologist showed up and did is normally job of sucking.

  59. enchantedbeaver

Ya know what get’s me? Its the fact that management (Ned), doesn’t even feign like he’s doing anything contructive. Dammit, 6 for 56? DFA the SOB so that at least we think you give a crap about performance. 12 out of 23 inherited runners to score. DFA the SOB Ned. Its rediculous that we have to be subjected to this crap day in and day out. JoJo’s obviously senile, and he ought to be gone as well.

  60. vl4ecc

I haven’t logged in to make any comments for a long time, but I think both Proctor & Sweeney need to be kicked to the curb. Politely put, they have been ineffective. Bluntly put, they both blow hard this season!

  61. messagebear@msn.com

I have the eerie feeling that Frank is like Nero watching Rome burning – and he doesn’t give a Schidt.

  62. MPniewski73@att.net

how much longer do we have to suffer through this garbage? Again if we can score 4 runs a game we would have a win. As I said two weeks ago the Dodgers will put us all out of our misery by the end of interleague play as they will go 2-7 on this homestand and effectively end their season. As has been the case over the last several seasons no matter which AL teams we play we can’t win. Management is standing pat because they feel like they are in it only being 41/2 out but soon enough Arizona will win 8 out 10 and the Dodgers will be 9 back. Fire Ned now, everyone he has brought in has been injured.

  63. oldbrooklynfan

You wouldn’t think the Dodgers had much of a chance to beat either Lee or Sabathia but they sure made it interesting.

  64. dodger 32

I keep saying that management doesn’t care about winning, only filling seats. Keeping guys like Sweeney and Proctor enforce my claim. Pierre in left also!

  65. junkyardjamie

It will be interesting to see how the media/management twists this game all up to be entirely the kids’ fault once again, or how we will be compared to the Yankees once again.

  66. kpookiemon

    Shango, anyone?

“Day after day, Juan Pierre plays for L.A.
Ssh! Don’t you tell anybody the whole season’s slipping away.
Where can we go, we’re bad as San Francisco?
Ssh! Better get ready to tie up the fans or they’ll revolt.

  67. enchantedbeaver

All hail the 2nd coming of Grady Tracy and his PVL Blue Crew! Kudos and salutations to the speediest leadoff hitter in baseball for another fine 0 for 5 performance at the plate!!, and tremendous adventures in the outfield. Super offensive performance by aging vet Jeff Kent as he finally hit double figures in walks in only 250 PAs. Amazing pinch hitting streak continued by venerable superstar Mark Sweeney!! What can you say about Berroa that hasn’t been said before on this blog?!! And Congrats and a hearty WELL DONE to the anchor of our bullpen, Scott Proctor, for putting another close game out of reach. Surely this is a team destined for the cellar!!!

  68. kpookiemon

I don’t like picking on Pierre, but for heaven’s sake, give the guy a day off. Every ball hit to him means ZERO chance of throwing out a runner. It’s like watching the same rerun over and over and over and over and over and over and… He’s a “nice” player, but never coming out of the line-up?

  69. junkyardjamie

I just got my Dodger Magazine and there is a feature story on Mark Sweeney titled the “Hit Man”. I had to laugh because what has he hit, other than rock bottom (well that would be .100 in our book). This is a prime example of our management. Everything looks wonderful if you are looking at our PVL’s and their career stats – fine, we get that they “were” great at one time. However, nobody, except for the true Dodger fans, is looking at this years, (and in some cases last years) stats to see that they are not doing crap now. Yes, they have their good days (Pierre and Kent have had them), but compare that to how many bad days, and there is no comparison. Why is management waiting for them to snap out of it. It’s been almost 3 months and they haven’t snapped out of it. BTW – other features are with Nomar and Kent (other favorite PVL’s). Our young players are represented too, but I haven’t read theirs yet. Sweeney’s article just hit me first since he really, really is sucking right now. He does seem like a great guy, but right now, we need somebody to hit the frickin’ ball when called to do so – it is his job. I still say we should have an on-line party when he reaches .100. We got to have something to celebrate – it might as well be a bad milestone because the way Torre and Co. is running this team, it may be our only celebration this year – LOL!!!

  70. kpookiemon

In the heat tomorrow, let’s go ALL youth:

    Martin C
    DeWitt 3B
    Kemp CF
    Loney 1B
    LaRoche 2B
    Young LF
    Ethier RF
    Berroa SS
    Billingsley P

  71. junkyardjamie

kpookiemon – I didn’t get to see the game. Did Pierre have another bad throw?
    .
enchanted – thanks for the anti-ndeschenes – love it!!!!

  72. junkyardjamie

kpookiemon – As fantastic as that lineup looks, you know that lineup makes too much sense and common sense doesn’t fly with Torre and Ned.

  73. kpookiemon

In the 11th inning first three RBI hits were to left field. Enough said. I think one throw is just now reaching LaRoche at third. And our little Gold Glover kicked one there for an error, to boot (pardon the pun).

  74. jungar@wsgcorp.com

No matter what else is going on with your team (there is alot) you can’t win when your leadoff hitter gets on at .303 and your 3 hitter is OPSin .590 with runners on base. Seriously. Pierre as a leadoff hitter has been better than Jeff Kent this year with runners on. That is frightning.

  75. junkyardjamie

kpookiemon – Are you kiddng me!! That is so ridiculous!! If that were any other player, he would be sitting for days. This issue is so very frustrating to me.

  76. kpookiemon

Actually, dnelson, while Pierre played his usual defense, a lot of the credit has to go to Proctor for his usual spotless command, as well. But hindsight is 20-20, so I continue to look forward to a brighter, veteran-less tomorrow.

  77. junkyardjamie

Yes, by all of your comments, I would have to assume that it was more Proctor than Pierre, which he is another issue in itself – wow! I can accept what happened to Sammy last night because sometimes we do get what we need from him, but every game I have seen Proctor pitch, he does exactly what is expected – implodes!

  78. messagebear@msn.com

“Who me worry? We’re only 4 or 5 games out, and it’s not even All-Star Game time yet. I remember our Yankees being 7 or 8 out, and we’d get things in gear in August and September and head right for the playoffs. I am beginning to get a good feel for the team, however, and another month or so we’ll know just who we can rely on, and our critical players like Sweeney and Proctor will have had the chance to get into their groove and carry us the rest of the season.”

“And if that doesn’t work, we’ll do it again next year, but we’ll have to ask Ned to get us a few more veteran players, because ‘they get it’. You can never have enough veteran players.”

  79. enchantedbeaver

Thanks peru! Unfortunately, it’s all too easy.

I think for the ones not “getting it”, Ned and JoJo need look no further than the mirror.

  80. junkyardjamie

    Dodgers’ Proctor sporting 6.62 ERA
    Scott Proctor – R – LA – Jun. 21 – 9:29 pm et
Scott Proctor’s ERA is up to 6.62 after he allowed four runs without retiring a batter Saturday against the Indians.
Dodgers fans don’t deserve this, but at least Joe Torre is being punished for doing his best to ruin Proctor while both were with the Yankees. Unfortunately, if Proctor is done, he’ll end his career having made only about $2 million. He was a late bloomer, and once he finally did emerge, the Yankees worked him mercilessly from day one. Jun. 21 – 9:29 pm et
    .
Here we go with the Yankee references again – uugghh!!

    .

  81. boblee14@yahoo.com

2 straight games we had a chance to throw out a runner at home from left field but not with Pierre out there.

What the hell does it take for Torre to take him out of the game for a baseball player such as DY who has an arm. I’m so sick of seeing Pierre in left field every day. Maybe sara would take him in for awhile and take him off our hands.

Again, I’ll say it, Torre Sucks big time. No manager capabilities there.

We cannot beat AL teams for S***.

LOL gang. Congrats to your son Nelly. Great anti-ND E. I have been without power for the last 4 hours due to the heavy thunderstorms here. I see the doctor bent us over again and had Phew to lend a hand. Un-freaking-believable!!™.

  83. junkyardjamie

Thanks jhall!! He pitched really well – best one out there today and this was the varsity squad he was with. Afternoon thunderstorms – boy! remember those living in the south. We actually had a 5 minute one here today. During the game we saw lightening, and then by the end of the game we had about a 5 minute downpour and it was 103 degrees outside – seems like strange weather all over today, but nothing like those afternoon thunderstorms in your parts.
    .
We got home just in time to see the last out, but according to our fellow bloggers, it ended at the top of that inning with Mr. Proctor in is usual form.
    .
Here is a statement from Proctor about his performance today. The full article short cut is underneath.
    .
I’m not going to answer any questions about (health). There’s nothing. I’m tired of people making excuses, saying I’m hurt. It’s about pitching and making outs. It’s embarrassing, especially when guys compete like that all day, to go out and pitch like that. It’s not rocket science. You just have to go out there and make pitches and get outs. You shouldn’t let a game like get away. I’m embarrassed,” Proctor said.

  84. jhallwally

More embarrassing for JoJo our resident clown for running him out there when we still are in the game. What a baffoon!!!!

  85. junkyardjamie

The good thing about these last two days is that Jhonny Peralta is on my fantasy team, and the bad thing is that so is Andre 😦 I feel so bad he is having a rough go of things lately. I heard he broke a bat after striking out – I think bluecrewgirl stated that – definite sign of too much pressure. Damn Juan Pierre – he went 0 for 5 today and knows he will still play tomorrow. DY and Andre don’t have that luxury of that thinking, I guess. Matt will have his turn to think like that when Andruw comes back.

  86. junkyardjamie

The stories are starting to get so ridiculous that they are actually funny because what else can you do other than laugh ( or cry, I guess).
    .
    gnats lost 🙂
    dbacks lost 🙂
    .
I guess we can be happy in the fact that both of these teams are sucking against the AL too.

  87. enchantedbeaver

At least Proctor’s embarrassed. That’s more than you can say for Frank & Furter and the Wurst.

  88. jungar@wsgcorp.com

“I don’t want to say it’s a platoon [at third base], because there may be a game where I think Loney has trouble with this particular left-hander, I’ll put LaRoche over there and DeWitt’ll play,” Torre said. “I’m not afraid to have DeWitt hit against left-handers, but his numbers lately against left-handers haven’t been as good as the overall number.”

    .235 /.294 /.274 /.568 JP vs Right handed pitching.
    .248 /.286/.406 /.692 Kent Vs righties.
    .298/.394/.474 /.868 DeWitt vs Lefties.

Now I realize he at least said “lately” but this is just nonsense.

  89. junkyardjamie

LOL!!! I see Grady had an okay day. When I had heard a homerun was hit, I assumed it was him because I knew where they were in the lineup, and when I heard it was Sabathia, I was stunned. Maybe Sabathia showed all those other American League weinie pitchers that this is how to hit the ball when you are playing a National League team – just hit a homerun and you don’t have to worry about hurting yourself while running to first base, you can just jog it out.

  90. junkyardjamie

jungar – you are killing me! LMAO!!! They certainly don’t publish those stats in their articles, do they? LMAO!!
    .
enchanted – wasn’t it sara who was thinking that players/managers need to start being embarrassed – Well, maybe this is start. However, it needs to be the everyday players that need to start stepping up and saying these things. You are not going to hear Kent or Pierre apologizing for bad performances. We have seen more reactions from the kids (Russell, especially) talking about their bad days.

  91. jhallwally

Great stuff Jungar. Unbelievable. JoJo is a double talking idiot or liar. Take your pick. I am beginning to believe he is just freaking clueless. Ned’s b*tch!!!!

  92. enchantedbeaver

I really hope the Snakes go on a spurt and put us down by 12 or so by the trade deadline. That’s all we need is to only be down 5-6 games and have JoJo and Ned thinking we have a chance if we can just add a few more veterans.

I still think any other manager though and we’re at least a .500 ballclub.

  93. j-murray

the only thing that sucks worse than rooting for a second-rate team is watching the angels go to philadelphia and take care of business on the road. those guys just find a way to get it done. the dodgers need lessons on how to be clutch. and ned colletti needs to be slapped across the face for that stupid hair cut.

  94. junkyardjamie

The scary thing is I am hoping the same thing and worse, I am hoping the teams behind us catch up- (including, dare I say, the gnats). I am hoping for some of our PVL’s to actually fail more than they already are. If it’s possible, I want to see how far Torre and co. are willing to let them sink. We’ve seen what he is willing to put up with for Sweeney, and he’s obviously going to let him continue to sink.

  95. enchantedbeaver

The Angels catch some grief for the money they’re paying their outfield, but the bottom line is they’re playing .600 baseball. Scioscia is flat out a superior manager and knows how to get the most from the talent he has. I’d love to see what he’d be doing with our young guns.

On the otherhand, JoJo’s thought processes should be the subject of a clinical study. Sweeney’s 6 for friggin 56. In all the years I’ve watched the Dodgers, I can’t recall any position player doing that poorly that was still on the team, let alone used in critical game situations. If Procto’s a gas can, Sweeney’s a water hose because he’ll extinguish any rally you get going.

I just can’t fathom what game JoJo’s watching at the same time we are. Sweeney, Procto, Pierre, Kent… its obvious who’s dragging the kids under, and these are the shining beacons of how to play the game? It so goes against common sense and logic that it’d be comical if it weren’t so tragic for what its doing to the young guys.

I’ve been frustrated watching the D’s for many years, but this season is the worst of the bunch.

  96. junkyardjamie

LMAO!! enchanted – I am working on a song called “The Devil Went Down to LA”. It’s the only thing that makes sense – the devil has possessed our management team and has taken Pierre as his adopted son. LMAO!!!!! You truly kill me sometimes enchanted – too too funny!!! LMAO!!!!

  97. kpookiemon

I’d rather get through all the maddening, brain dead, idiotic, clueless, stupid mistakes the kids will make THIS SEASON. Play ’em all and play ’em every day. It’s the only way they’ll “break on through to the other side.” Who really cares if we lose 80 or 100 games? Everyone raise his/her hand if he/she feels this team is on the cusp of a championship run right now? I see very few hands. Why dilly-dally? Ned’s job should be to move Jeff and Juan by the deadline or he’s fired. And if he can move Andruw, he gets a new car. Regardless, the future is the kids. Why are we messing around with the vets at all? Who are we kidding about this team? Just becaused no one wants the West doesn’t make the Dodgers a contender. Why do Ned and Joe delay the inevitable? You’d think they’d be doing handstands over the future possibilities of this club. And while we’re at it, free Repko. Why in the world is Sweeney taking his spot????????????? AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

  99. enchantedbeaver

Exactly khali. I don’t care if they lose 100 if it serves a purpose, which is to help the kids grow. What JoJo’s doing serves no one. These PVLs certainly aren’t part of the future, so why are they getting any playing time? And its only going to get worse when ‘Druw gets back. Its an organization where the inmates run the asylum.

  100. junkyardjamie

I don’t know why you are quiting. I don’t believe any of us have – LOL!! I’m drinking gin and lemonade right now, and trying to write a song and listening to Bruce Springstein on the radio – what could be better. Well, other than an ailment making Pierre unable to play tomorrow – I would settle for a piano or a reindeer too 🙂

  101. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

hey guys, i was out all day.. the game was PAINFUL because it was SO winnable.. it was also very hot at the ballpark. i was in the shade, but there was zero breeze and everyone was sweating just sitting in their seats.. before the game they showed the dugout thermometer and it was 119 degrees. so disgusting..

it was amazing to see CC’s homerun. although it was against us, i’d have to say i was excited that i was there to see that, because he absolutely crushed that thing. he turned on it so hard.. i thought for a moment it was going out of the stadium. and with all the whining hank steinbrenner was doing about AL pitchers hitting, it was nice to see CC show that the DH is stupid, and that there is a way to take advantage of having him hit.

the rest of the game (sans kemp’s homer which was great) was pretty awful. each of the most painful moments, i predicted while in my seat. i predicted juan pierre going 0-fer. i predicted sweeney would strikeout looking. i predicted ethier would try too hard when he was sent up to pinch hit. and I DEFINITELY predicted that proctor would come in and blow the game. UGH.

proctor is AWFUL. and yet joe torre seems to be the only one who doesn’t see it. when cory wade came back out for this second inning, i turned to my friend and said, i bet you that if cory puts a couple runners on, joe will bring in proctor to “get out of the jam” and proctor will give up the winning runs. and sure enough, proctor came in and blew the game. i mean BLEW the game. i couldn’t believe joe didn’t just leave wade in. i think even if cory had given up a run, it would have been one run, and not 6 (!!!!) like proctor. with a one run game they could have tried to come back again, but with a 6 run game, they were defeated. i blame joe completely.

after the game we stuck around for the hollywood stars game. it was not very organized, and it was hot out there still.. it was alright. i wouldn’t say it was great. it had it’s moments. seeing kareem abdul-jabbar out there was so great. and russell let delwyn young pinch hit for his team when they were losing and delwyn hit a homer. and then when russell’s team was down 2 runs, and they had a man on base, russell tried to pinch hit himself so that they could tie up the game, but he couldn’t get it to the fence so it was just a single. he walked back to his bench after requesting a pinch runner and you could tell he was disappointed with himself for not coming through for his team.. he tried to sign some autographs, and i was INCHES from him, but he was getting mobbed so he left. delwyn hung out with russell the whole game, and beimel stopped by to chat with them. loney seemed to have fun too. kemp was there after the game too and signed some autographs and i managed to talk to him and got a picture with him. sad i couldn’t get russell’s attention, but at least i met matty.

sorry for the incredibly LONG post. just trying to catch up from the day..

  102. northstateblues

got back from work, missed the game, but judging from the way the Extreees went, I would’ve just got my heart broken again, then gotten angry. leekfink is smart to protest Interleague.

How’s Saito doing? Maybe he should see Nomar’s doctor in Boston if he’s hurt. I’ll never say a bad word about Saito, he is the definition of class, and he’s saved our butt in the wake of Gagne’s collapse. But I have a feeling Saito-san might be getting Conte’d soon.

I swear, Colletti and Conte do have some sort of conspiracy going on. Colletti signs a hurt vet, Conte tells Frank “He’s doing fine, we’re just going to have to take mild precautions…” then the PVL explodes like the g****mn drummer from Spinal Tap. All in a beautiful effort to bleed McCourt’s pockets dry… which leads to McCourt bleeding ou…. :: dragged away from computer by mustachioed men in suits ::

  103. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

“Meanwhile, the Dodgers’ bullpen has lost its good-luck gnome (“I’ll probably find him on eBay,” said a dismayed Joe Beimel) and now, it seems, the karma the little fellow possessed. For the first time this year, Dodgers relievers lost consecutive games.”

someone find the gnome!! they lost the gnome when they went to san diego to start the road trip.. and the bullpen was alright on the road.. but is it a coincidence that as soon as they return home the bullpen loses back-to-back games??

  104. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

“There have been short starts and few runs, and the injuries are mounting, none of which Proctor would accept to explain the four runs charged his way Saturday or the personal ERA that has ballooned to 6.82, leaving his spot on the staff in jeopardy.”

i was intrigued by the last part of that sentence.. leaving his spot on the staff in jeopardy.. let’s all hope that it is true, because he does not belong on this team. i can’t remember the last time he came in and didn’t give up at least a run.. anytime he comes in with runners on, he let’s them score.. he needs to be gone, and he needs to take sweeney with him..

  105. iheartaethier16@yahoo.com

I dont even know what to say about today’s game. I sat baking in 115 degree field weather to watch torre embarrass the dodgers horribly…. 😦 it’s so fustrating that it just makes me really sad now.

Russell performed so good today but then again when does he not.. what’s sad is torre doesnt allow the lineup needed to back him up that would make a great team to make great scores..

“Sabathia’s homer was the first by a visiting pitcher at Dodger Stadium since July 26, 2006, when San Diego’s Jake Peavy connected off Brad Penny. …”

dnelson – I’m glad to be another female on board here to show my dodger pride no matter what torre is putting the dodgers and us fans through. Even though I wasn’t surprised I was still sad Andre didn’t play today except when he pinch hit. I’ll be back at the game tomorrow in the unbearable heat but it’s all worth it for my boys in blue and hopefully Andre will be in the starting lineup 🙂 and Yes, he does look incredibly handsome in that picture and on TV!! (considering he just flew in a couple of hours before that from cinc to attend be there and then play at night) so that’ll be my excuse for him not having a great night…

anways, I thought I would post a link to a video of dodgers making history… everyone should watch and hopefully it’ll bring a smile to all your faces 🙂

sara – I wish the outcome was better for you – I, too, was happy to hear that Sabathia hit a home run, thinking this ought to shut up some AL fans. I didn’t get to see any of the game except the last out. When I was driving home it was a 1-1 tie, and then when I went in to check, the score blew me away. I came here to see what happened and sure enough Proctors name was all over the board. I knew Andre wasn’t playing, but then when I heard he had to pinch hit, my first reaction was – oh no!! and sure enough, it didn’t work out so well for him – too bad, but he will recover just fine like they all do. It just hurts to know that Pierre still gets to march out there tomorrrow – bad day or not, and Delwyn and Andre have wait and see.

  107. junkyardjamie

I was wearing my Russell Martin shirt today. I usually do that on days Andre doesn’t play – Russell had a good day 🙂

  111. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

yeah dnelson, ethier did not have a good at bat. and then he broke his bat out of frustration.. i haven’t seen him so outwardly frustrated in a long time.. i’m glad you wore your russell shirt. russ had a good game, but i’m sure he’d trade it for a win. i wore my russell jersey, and i ALMOST got him to sign it, but again he was mobbed so he had to leave..

iheartaethier, welcome and thanks for the link. it made me smile 🙂

that really was an incredible game and it is something i will NEVER forget..

  112. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

btw, iheartaethier, i think you’ll have to fight dnelson for andre. i already made an agreement with her that russ was mine and andre was hers.. haha.. so you guys can duke it out 🙂

  113. junkyardjamie

On the days the Dodgers rest Jeff Kent, they might run Kemp, Martin and Loney through the heart of the order. If those three can anchor themselves there, the Dodgers can start breaking in youngsters where they should be, at the bottom of the lineup.
    .
reading the article jungar submitted – what in the hell is this supposed to mean. Who in the hell is going to be at the top of the order if the youngsters are at the bottom. You have go to be kidding people!!!! Jungar – that article is so frickin’ ridiculous – they must think we are a bunch of idiots to believe such crap.

  114. junkyardjamie

sara – I was here first – LOL!!! He’s mine!! I am willing to share to a point. LOL!! I am married you know – I call this my mid-life crisis boyfriend – lol!! As my friend and I call Andre – he is” My Imaginary National League West Boyfriend.” She likes Grady Sizemore so she refers to him as “My Imaginary American League Central Boyfriend”. I just feel bad for Maggie having to deal with girls like us, but then I am assuming she knows it’s part of the territory. Just listening to the crowd when his name is announced, the screaming has a definite female tone to it. 🙂

  115. junkyardjamie

enchanted, why are you not sleeping? great song, though!!!
    .
sara – I heard about the bat, and I have heard it’s not the first time he has broken things. He has broken his helmet on occasion too. The frustration he must be feeling for losing his left field job to JP, who isn’t even close to as good as him, and on top of that, JP is playing every single day. He will be okay; he’s got Russell helping him through it I’m sure.

  116. kpookiemon

Juan to Joe…courtesy of the “masters.”

I’m so tired, I’m playing without rest
I’m so tired, my game is not the best
I wonder should I tell Joe but he might think I’m a mess
    No, no, no.

I’m so tired I don’t know what to do
I’m so tired my mind is just like goo
I wonder should I call Joe but I know what Joe would do.

He’d say “I’m putting you in”
    But it’s no joke, I don’t think I can
You know I can’t sleep, I can’t stop my brain
You know it’s four weeks, I’m going insane
You know I’d give you everything I’ve got
for a little day of rest.

Be a pal to your superstar, Joe. Hear his exhausted plea…

  117. junkyardjamie

iheartaethier – great video; it did make me smile 🙂 And, yes, I will share my passion for andre with you. Ever since he got benched over Pierre, my passion for making sure he gets the respect he deserves has grown immensly. Andre has really gotten screwed in the last few months since Furcal has gone on the DL, and he is trying to be the good person in all this and keep his mouth shut, but somebody has to speak up for him. Pierre’s obviously got people looking out for him (many refer to that as his mom), so I feel like ( as many on this board do) that we need to speak loud and clear that we want this core group of young players to stay together. These young players are too valuable to the future of the Dodgers, and Andre needs to be part of that future. So, I am speaking loud and clear anytime something is said negative about Andre or Matt. They are the future outfield, not Pierre and Jones.

  118. iheartaethier16@yahoo.com

    sorry for the bad paragraphing

sara- i agree with you on the all star game it wasn’t as great as i thought it would….

kendra from the girls next door was really cute though she really is into sports and it’s good to see women in the game 🙂 I left after she had her first at bat.. the heat was getting to me & I couldnt wait to get home to celebrate how proctor just made my day even better than sitting for 4 hours hoping our rookies would make the game for us only to end with the cleveland fans laughing in my face..

dnelson- about JP, let’s not get me started on this one.. I have season tickets by third base in LF cus that’s where Andre’s at…. or so I thought. so needless to say I’ve had to spend double now to buy new tix to each game. haha.. ne waise I think it’s common sense that the kids are the future not just for the dodgers but in LIFE in general.. but obviously torre doesnt think that way. guess what they say is true, cant teach a old dog new tricks.. its getting late i dont know if I make sense but i hope u get what I’m trying to say…

He has been really respectable in the sense that I’ve not heard him once complain about how everything is going, i know that i would be devasted, actually that’d be an understatement, if he ever got traded but if it means he would have a better career with a team that will really truly appreciate everything he’s got and brings to the team maybe just maybe i can let that thought cross my mind.. but i wont and dont even want to go there so never mind scratch that …Oh and I dont know if you know yet but Andre and Maggie are having a baby boy later this year… 🙂

  119. junkyardjamie

iheartaethier – yes, I hear what you are saying on all counts. I did know he and Maggie are having their first child. I read that on his own blog “Dining with ‘Dre”. If you haven’t looked at it, you should. Since getting burned back in April by buying tickets on the third base towards left field , I now spend the extra bucks and sit somewhere near home plate on first base side depending on availability. Eventhough April was pre-benching days for Andre, Torre was in his “I’m benching Matt” days instead, which created the same result, Pierre in left field. Where I usually get seats now, I figure if Andre isn’t playing, at least I will get to watch Matt and James play instead. Anything is better than sitting in left field watching Juanpy play instead. 🙂

  120. boblee14@yahoo.com

    Good Morning
    Everyone see this article below:::

Good t’s a fluid time of year. Expectations and organizational directions are being reconsidered, some strongly so. The Dodgers, for one, are waiting on Rafael Furcal and Andruw Jones to heal, waiting on Brad Penny and Hiroki Kuroda to heal and then pitch like front-of-the-rotation starters, waiting on their young players to string together some professional at-bats. And, even then, they no longer have the vaguest notion of what a healthy Jones can give them. Actually, they have a strong suspicion, which is worse. As pricy as Holliday would be, the Rockies likely would jack up the cost on a trade inside the NL West, and then the Dodgers could watch Matt Kemp become Holliday at Coors Field..
    .
If management trades away Kemp as they did Piazza, then it’s time for me to seriously think about becoming a fan of another team. That’s one trade I won’t be able to swallow. Everyone else seems to value Kemp’s future better than the Dodgers..

  121. junkyardjamie

Boblee – I am still so frustrated with the fact that they are still saying the young players are not taking professional at-bats, when we see our veterans doing the same damn thing. I watch alot of other games besides the Dodgers, and why is it that the Dodgers are the only team that focuses on what the young players are doing wrong, and not pointing out the same flaws in our veteran players. Somebody in this management team has really messed some of these young players up majorly, and I am hoping that somebody steps in and stops it before they are ruined for good. I think the outfielders (Ethier, Kemp and Young) are getting the worst of it. It’s almost as if they are being threatened with being traded if they don’t get their act together. The funny things is they all have their acts together, far better than JP and Jones, and my fear is one of them will get screwed because of Joe’s loyalties towards the vets.

  122. junkyardjamie

    Good Morning, Dodger Blue Fans!!!
It’s morning music time, and yes, it’s a Juan Pierre (with Ned) as the focus. This issue with Pierre playing everyday has really gotten under my skin, and it’s not just an Andre thing (mostly – lol!). I feel the same thing about Kemp and Young, too. If somebody doesn’t come in and stop this nonsense, we are going to see three quality outfielders go to waste in right field and on the bench when Andruw comes back. That seems like their destiny and I feel helpless in the fact, that I, as a fan, have no say in how this is so unjustifiable and completely wrong. I feel like Ned and Torre are the devil in disguise and Pierre is their son, and they are determined to see the Dodgers fail. This was the hardest song I’ve done because of the lack of repeating lyrics – lol!! (BTW- in this particular song – the Devil is played by Ned)
    .
Song: “Devil Went Down to LA”
Original Song: “Devil Went Down to Georgia”
    by Charlie Daniels
    .
    .
The devil went down to LA,
He was looking for a player to steal
He was in bind ‘cuz his team was behind:
He was willing to make a deal
When he came across this PVL
For a trade and thinking it’s right
So the devil jumped for joy and said,
“Pierre let me tell you what”
I bet you didn’t know it,
But I’m a gnats fan, too.”
Now, you play pretty bad baseball,
But give the devil his due:
I bet your glove against my dough,
I’ll make the boss think better of you.
Then Pierre said “My name’s Juanpy”
and it may be a sin,
But I’ll take your bet, your gonna regret
‘Cuz they say I’m the worst that ‘s every been
    .
Pierre you come on up now
    and play centerfield
Cos’ hells broke loose in LA
and your mama deals it hard
And if you lose, you gets lots
    of money for the goal
But if you win, the devil gets your soul.
    .
The devil opened up his case and said,
    “I’ll start this show”
And fire flew from his finger tips
As he took out the money for show
As he pulled the money across to Juan
It sure made Dodger fans wince
Then a band of fans joined in
And it sounded something like this:
    .
*** fiddle playing ( fans are saying shouting
don’t do it Ned, don’t do it Ned, don’t do it Ned)
    .
When the devil finished, Juanpy said,
“Well mom say I’m pretty good”
“So if you sit down right there, right here,
And I’ll show you how it’s done.
    .
Pitcher on the mound, one strike, two
The devil’s quiet as a mouse, can’t get enough
Pierre’s in the batter’s box, slap hit out
“Juanpy, needs to do that everytime”
    “yes,oh yes”
    .
**** more fiddle playing and fans shouting***
    .
The devil bowed his head because
He knew that he’d found Juan
Devil said”Juan just keep comin’ back
    And keep doing it again”
I told you once, I’m a gnats fan”
I’m hoping the Dodgers never win.”
    .
Pitcher on the mound, one strike, two
The devil’s quiet as a mouse, can’t get enough
Pierre’s in the batter’s box, slap hit out
“Juanpy needs to do that everytime”
    “yes, oh yes”

I dread the thought that Logan and Ng may be interviewed again for GM positions, this time by Seattle. The one who obviously need to be gone is Ned, and either of the two fine people under him could be a better GM for us; therefore, I hate the thought of losing either from our club. Do the right thing, Frank, and fire Ned Now, so we can get an new plan in place before the trade deadline and going into next season.

    FIRE NED NOW!!!

With Kent scheduled for a day off today I’m hoping that Torre can progress enough in his traditional thinking to play either LaRoche or DY at second base. How much would we be giving up defensively compared to Maza, or even Kent? I don’t see any value in Maza at the major league level; therefore, why give him the AB’s rather than let what may be a future alternative at second have a tryout.

  125. swood@rcn.com

Bear I would play LaRoche there because I don’t think DY can play defense there. I know Jones was having a bad year at the plate but I think we were like 21-14 or so when he was starting…

  126. tradejuanpypaperbag

testing – no, I wasn’t kicked off (yet). I just wanted to create a new e-mail address for my new computer. The new name is more fun anyway, and now, my bad behavior can’t be traced back to school – lol!!

  127. tradejuanpypaperbag

bear – the best scenario would be for LaRoche to be at 2nd and Young in left or right field – I know, wishful thinking once again.

  128. boblee14@yahoo.com

Dnelly. I am also frustrated. So many years being a Dodger fan and now we have management that does not and cannot coach these young potential superstars to be great,
    .
Seriously, if the Dodgers think trading a highly sought after player like Kemp and getting an over the hill veteran is the way to go, they will look back in 5 years and wish they had Kemp back. I’m sure management wished a thousand times they had never traded off Piazza. Kemp needs some hands on management to become as good as anyone in baseball right now.
    .
They need to fire Ned and replace Torre with anyone who can relate to youth, and for God’s sake, get rid of noodle arm Pierre. He couldn’t even throw out his mother running from first to third on a base hit . What does his mother have over Torre.

  129. tradejuanpypaperbag

…Outfielder Juan Pierre has driven in a run in four straight games and five of six after going 10 games without an RBI. Before this stretch, he had only driven in three runs in his previous 28 games.
    .
and another statistic about JP, and my response is “and so….” – this is confusing to say the least but even so, big deal – he has 24 for the season – BFD!! – Matt has a leading-team 43 and even Andre (who has fewer games than JP now) has 28. Plus, he has one of the lowest in this category for lead off hitters in the MLB. May I point out that he went 0-5 yesterday.

  130. tradejuanpypaperbag

boblee – At this point, trading any of them will result in them coming back to play us one day and giving it to Joe and co. and being able to tell the Dodger Organization – up yours!!!

    good morning everyone!

i tivo’ed the game yesterday, as i often do when i go to dodgers stadium, just because it’s always interesting to see if you missed anything while sitting at the stadium that they showed on tv.. here are some things i noticed:

karros and vasgersian said multiple times that management has said they would stick by kemp and not trade him. they said it after the times kemp did something, a couple good catches in the outfield, one botched catch, and obviously his homerun. it leaves room for optimism.. but only when dealing with kemp, it doesn’t say anything for the other young guys =/

i think someone mentioned it, but CC told chris rose before the game that he would be hitting his second major league homerun and he actually came through. if that’s not determination and execution, i don’t know what is. the homerun ball by itself was definitely impressive, but knowing that he predicted it of himself before the game, makes it that much better..

the big FOX pregame show yesterday profiled the arizona d’backs and showed a lot of inside clips.. did anyone else see it? it was very interesting, and it gave you a chance to really get to know their players. it’s obvious that they have fun and have good chemistry. and it’s also obvious what a young team they have, and how if we gave our guys the chance that they gave upton, chris young, etc. last year or the year before, that we would be a much better team for it. they sit there and praise the d’backs youthful energy and i just sat there and wished the perception of our team came off that way..

they said that next week, they will be doing the same kind of profile on our team. i have my tivo all set to record. i think it will be really interesting to get an insight on how our guys interact, and to see what the chemistry is like. the d’backs players were playing connect four, and joking around, and it was good to see they stay loose. i really am interested to see how our guys act too. i think everyone else should try and watch it too. i believe it’s the national pre-game show so everyone should be able to see it. i think we’ll learn a lot more about our guys from it. 🙂

Juan Pierre. OBP .331 and falling. 28 runs scored. Projected runs scored if he plays every game (as if he won’t) the rest of the year – 65, or about 32 LESS than his career average. Still 6 runs short of Furcal in 115 more PAs.

    THAT’S a quality leadoff man.

Sweeney .107. Kent .255/.294 OBP/.700 OPS. Berroa .205/.295 OBP/.526 OPS. Proctor the human gas can.

When does it end?? What are these clowns contributing that Grandma Moses couldn’t?

PLAY THE KIDS. DUMP JOJO, NED and the Dancing PVLs.

  133. messagebear@msn.com

I would lay off Pierre, if only Torre wouldn’t insist on using him exclusively in lead-off. While his LF play certainly has the known deficiencies, his average and offensive usefulness other than in lead-off is much better than Berroa and Ardoin or Bennet when we have to use them. Realistically Ned and Torre aren’t getting rid of Pierre at least this season, because he’s kind of their Furcal insurance when the latter isn’t available.

Talking about Raffy, if and when he does come back, what’s that going to prove for the long run. I doubt he’ll just pick up at the same level that he started out the year – remember last year with his extended ankle problems. A bulging disc, although Conte won’t tell you, can only disappear one of two ways – either it’s reduced down to normal with sufficient rest on a likely temporary basis, or it’s surgically repaired. If there’s no surgery, following which we would have a rehabilitation period and a time to find out how Raffy responds thereafter, he’ll only be damaged goods from the standpoint of signing him to any kind of an extended contract. Therefore I say, let’s give DeJesus a chance to play some shortstop at the major league level this year and either accept him as a reasonable answer for next year or rule him out. If out, then we need to get a shortstop in the FA or the trade market. It’s better to make that determination with what’s left of this season than to carry on with Berroa and not know what to do in the off-season.

If management wanted to be serious about shaping this team with the best players, they would cut the cord with Sweeney, Proctor, and even Nomore. Let’s free up these roster slots, and give some more prospects a chance. What does trotting out Sweeney and Proctor prove other than give all of us on the forum indigestion and an opportunity to display our cussing aptitude. That doesn’t even address what should be a seller position on our part before the trade deadline with Lowe for certain and probably to include Penny. We apparently need to restock our prospect base, particularly with some power potential.

  134. tradejuanpypaperbag

And to be absolutely clear, it doesn’t matter who brings it or which side anyone is on. If you like the kids fine, then be ready to take the criticism, fair or unfair because they are getting paid to play baseball in the No. 2 market. If you think the veterans are to blame, than suggest reasoned alternatives not just play 8 guys from Jacksonville.
    .
the comment above came from our “good kid’ blog – DT. This kind of thinking is what we are up against – hmmm! However, there are plenty of people over there giving this blogger the what-for-all in favor of the kids 🙂

  135. tradejuanpypaperbag

More stats from our outfielders. Ethier has 10 less ABs as Pierre and Kemp, and his numbers are still comporable to both.
    Last 10 games
    **Pierre: AB: 45, H: 11, R: 1, BB: 0, HR:0, SB: 4 RBI: 6 K: 5
    .
    **Kemp: AB: 45, H: 9, R: 5, BB: 1, HR: 2,SB: 2, RBI: 8, K:13
    .
    **Ethier: AB: 35, H: 7, R: 3, BB: 1, HR: 1, SB: 0, RBI: 6, K, 7

    .

  136. tradejuanpypaperbag

I forgot to mention that Pierre is our lead-off hitter – lol!! These are very sad stats for a lead off hitter, and not to mention his stolen bases are anything to celebrate over considering his one strength is his speed.

  137. tradejuanpypaperbag

One more thing about Pierre. He has struck out 5 times in the last 10 games, and his season total is only 15 – hmmmm! The announcers may have to stop saying that he seldom strikes out, but then some of them think he one of the best players in the game – LOL!

  138. messagebear@msn.com

It’s really sad to think that Pierre is the “best” performance contract signing that Ned can point to considering Nomar, Andruw, Loaiza, and Schmidt. Did I forget anybody else?

  139. jungar@wsgcorp.com

I dont care what the name is, but our leadoff hitter getting on at .295 and has only scored 18 runs in 43 games.

I don’t care what the name is but our 3 hole hitter is getting on base at .294 for the year. He is hitting even worse with runner on base. (.310 slug, .590 ops, .280obp,)

Its so dang obvious which is why I repeat it daily.

The failure of the dodgers the last two years is not the young players it’s the pieces the GM has put around the young players. If we had Sheff and Green circa 2001 in the center of the order we would be a great team, all other issues aside.

  140. bluecrewgirl

    Pierre. LF
    Kemp. CF
    Loney. 1B
    Martin. C
    DeWitt. 3B
    Ethier. RF
    Berroa. SS
    Maza. 2B
    Billingsley. P

Hopefully, this lineup with bring a victory in the final game.

  141. rintinjim310@yahoo.com

I was at the game yesterday. Not much to cheer about. Frank gave out free cups of water at all refreshment stands. Better than the seven dollar bottle.
Anyone else wonder why he did not have Berroa bunt after LaRoche had a single with DeWitt in on the on deck circle. No bunt, double play.
Also why would he talk about platooning DeWitt against left-handed pitchers when he is hitting 298 against them and only 264 against righthanders.
I know Laroche has a lot of fans on the site, but he is hitting 225. The same as last year.
Why did they send Tiffy down? They kept him up for two weeks and gave him no chance.
I have little respect for Torre these days. He has managed to destroy Andre’s confidence, now he is working on DeWitt.

  142. kpookiemon

Colletti saying he wouldn’t block Ng or White from going to Seattle is like Wally Pipp telling Lou Gehrig how much nicer Gehrig might enjoy a career in real estate…

  143. tradejuanpypaperbag

bluecrewgirl, It’s good to see Andre in the lineup. Maybe he will start getting back into his groove – I’m with rintinjim – confindence is being completely destroyed right now – horrible!!!! There has been nothing in his stats that warrant him to sit over Pierre. If anything, Pierre can play on days that there is a lefty pitching. (Pierre is batting .400 against lefties/ .232 against right. Andre is batting .172 against lefties/ .309 against right) Fine, they want Andre to sit over lefties, no problem, but there is not one other stat (okay – stolen bases) that warrants Pierre starting over Ethier. The outfield for now should be Ethier, Kemp and Young, and if they can’t see that, then this management team are true idiots.

  144. tradejuanpypaperbag

new thread people!!! enchanted – I think I just need to be reminded daily of that fact 🙂

  145. bluecrewgirl

Completely agree with you dnelly. I thought Grady messed with Andre’s head, but in looking back he probably got as much or more playing time last season and at least Grady never said the job was his and took it away at a time when he was hitting over .300. I think it definitely is a confidence issue, but he just needs get his confidence within himself and Blake needs to do the same. Blake seems a lot more laid back in that regard than Andre, at least on the surface, but he also hasn’t been through 2 years of this crap like he has. I know he’s frustrated and rightfully so, but he just needs to put that emotion into his game not into breaking bats and helmets. I totally understand his frustration though and I’m an Aries too like him so I probably would have broken a few helmets and bats by now too.
