Second attempt…
I tried posting from home this morning but apparently it didn’t register…
First off, regarding the Dodger Stadium tour by Andre Ethier, it did air late last season during a pregame show on FSN, but I’ll see what I can do about getting a copy of the feature and posting it here. I’m not sure I’m that technologically skilled yet, but I’ll give it a shot.
Also, there have been some questions about Carne Asada Sunday and obviously with Nomar’s rehab assignment up in the air, we’re still hoping that the event will take place this Sunday as planned. However, if he is ready to play, there’s a chance he won’t be in town and we’d have to reschedule, but rest assured, anyone who signed up will be taken care of one way or another. As soon as we have an update, we’ll keep you all posted and thanks for your understanding.
Here’s the lineup going for a sweep in Cincy (it’s 1-0 in the bottom of the first)
Pierre, LF
DeWitt, 3B
Kent, 2B
Martin, C
Loney, 1B
Kemp, CF
Ethier, RF
Berroa, SS
Stults, P (one of two Indiana natives on the pitching staff, along with Cory Wade, who was featured today in the Indianapolis Star).
Nothing like a new thread, Like a new baseball, nice and clean.
Let’s just make it 3 straight.
Nice inning, Mr Stults! Welcome back to The Show!
Perhaps Stults can be our LH PH when he’s not pitching. Shows better plate discipline than our “professional PH.”
Andre(even though he lined out – tough break) and Stults have had very good at bats.
.
until that double play – yikes!! Berroa, not everybody has a Pierre on their team – most left fielders can throw the ball 🙂
Angel Berroa, The Santiago Shat™.
Remember when JP’s OBP was up around .350/.360? Well, it’s been slowly creeping back to normal, now at .339.
And Berroa? If Nomar can’t play, are we stuck with this .185 avg. until/if Furacl comes back?
What did LaRoche do wrong? Put him in LF you stupid idiot!
Andy made the mistake of homering in his first game. JoJo may sit him the rest of the year.
We’ve had some real good ABs following yesterday’s thrend.
Great inning by stults once again – Wow!! I hope he can hold up and we can get some runs for him 🙂
I just got a text message on my phone stated that Kuroda is going on the 15 day disabled list for tendinitis and impingement in his right shoulder – ouch!!!
Some nice AB’s But Harang doesn’t seem to have anything and we still have a problem scoring.
Yeah Bill, I was feeling pretty rundown unit I took a Norris Hopper. Now I feel good enough to run a marathon.
The Reds are batting like the Dodgers usually do.
That should say “until”. Hate when I don’t proofread!!

MAAAAAAAAT KEMP!
Dang it – what’s Berroa smokin’ today?
That’s it. I want Stults to be the LH PH.
Hey peru, looks like you’re taking jhall’s spot as e’s twin today!
I am all for Stults being DH if Joe refuses to use Andy or DY for that reason. He is definitely better than Sweeney.
What’s going on?? Did hell freeze over or was that a bunt hit by Pierre??
Nice job, Pierre. Even if it was the first pitch again. Torre, take that!
Okay, if I have to say it – good job Pierre 🙂
“You talk about a professional hitter,” manager Joe Torre said. “The game really slows down for him, because he has such good at-bats. I don’t care what his batting average is or what his numbers are — when he gets up in situations, he has a pretty good plan.”
Strikeout – nice plan Jeffy!!
Having STULTS around is like having 9 hitters in the lineup and doesn’t PIERRE make it look good?
It must be catching…
“Kuroda had kept his condition quiet all season and didn’t inform Torre until he arrived at Great American Ball Park on Tuesday afternoon.”
Another nice signing by Mutt & Jeff (Ned and Conte.)
Nice way for Stults to pick-up Marty on the error and not allow that run.
Eric, it would be an honor to be enchanted’s twin. 🙂
And mine too peru!!
Is it me or is Harang pitching like Bad Billz today?
Someone said it yesterday – why can’t we play the Reds everyday?
The Bison©
MartinLoneyKemp!
.235 /.321 /.338 /.659 Kent with RISP. I’d hate to see a bad plan. Anyhow,, just stop saying stupid things and i’ll stop calling you out on it.
I like Torre less than Grady. There I said it. And no beating the Reds does not make everything alright. Sorry to be gloomy and glad we are winning and I know all you guys get a brief mild JP reprieve but that 2nd at bat of his is everything i hate about him (as a player) and Berrora was picked off cause of Juan. Out machine, misplayed triples aside he still is doing this drainage on our offense in leadoff…256 /.303 /.299 /.602
ok back to hibernation.
It’s nice to see us doing well in a day game!
M A T T Y Looking good 42 RBI
At this point in his young career, its either feast or famine with Kemp. But when he’s feasting…
We feel your pain jungar!!
6 HRs now for ETHIER, MARTIN, LONEY & KEMP
and Stultz says why you bring over loaiza and pay him 14 times as much as me…. didnt you see me throw for you in 06? Do your job and i’ll keep doing mine. BTW you are still paying Loazia 7 million and I like the kids before me make you look foolish.
Where’d THAT pitch come from?
You’re preachin’ to the choir, jungar. Keep it up!
Meanwhile, we’re harangueing Harang!
How many pitches has JP seen today??
How many pitches has Jeff Kent seen today??
yay! i’ve been in meetings all morning, but it’s good to see that we’re hitting (the young guns are!) and stults is pitching a gem!
catching up from last night..
dodgereric – that story about your softball replacement was gruesome! =/
dnelson – about russ’ struggling yesterday.. he really didn’t take “bad” at bats.. it was trying to see a lot of pitches, and he took some strikes RIGHT on the corners.. and about andre in the 7 spot. i think he’s there to protect kemp, more than anything.. i think that joe knows andre will take good at bats no matter where he is, so he likes having andre protect kemp..
i think if we ONLY play cincinnati, we finish at 150-12
we *would*
At least, can we play the reds at least 3 x a week.
Yeah, E! I was just about to say that the vets are the only ones rebelling against Torre’s pitch mandate, but I figured it out! Kent and Pierre are such selfless leaders that they’re showing the kids how NOT to do it.
Remarkable. I take back everything bad I said about them.
i have to say that it obviously helped a little in that junior griffey didn’t play a game in the series.. their lineup is less formidable without him
yeah, dodgereric. the vets were contracted to make a “what not to do” batting video. sweeney, kent, and pierre are in on it. they want to brighten the future of the young ‘uns 😉
LOL!!
If the Dodgers could carry these PATIENT ABs for the rest of the season, I think they’ll be all right.
Ya know Clem, harvestin’ used to take me twice as long until I got my Norris Hopper.
Something tells me Stults shouldn’t be going through the line-up a third time…
enchanted, he HAS to try.. they have a big enough lead, and they’re playing down a man in the pen.
seems like we might be seeing justin orenduff during the homestand.. another kid =)
Well damn I guess you’re right Sara!!
Eric Stultifies Red Bats
.
At least until the third time through. We’ll see.
i like being right =)
*WHEW*
This has been one terrific outing by Stults, and so good to see it with our DL pitching problems. Now just keep Proctor out of the game and we should finish up OK.
Nice 6 innings by STULTS.
K, GIDP – it doesn’t go better than that. Nice job by Stults. He has thrown 84 pitches so he could go another if Torre doesn’t hit for him, and there’s no reason to do that, is there?
the young dodgers every once in awhile show flashes of their potential…flashes of greatness…
i just hope that they will soon put it all together
but of course it helps playing the reds :]
Andre makes it unanimous!
Andre showing Joe that he can indeed hit lefthanders!
messagebear – 10 bucks says we see proctor today =P
he didn’t pitch yesterday, and since he’s been so unreliable, they need to use him in situations when we’re up by more than a couple.. he’s like the new rudy seanez
wow, we were like the team that would only hit 10 singles, until we met the reds.. these last two days, we’ve been extrabase hitting machines! haha
Hey, y’all! How is Stults doing in his outing?
Berroa fails to advance the runner.
.
Good move Torre to leave Stults in. Everyone in the pen needs to be saved as much as possible for Saturday.
Another clip for the “how not to do” video.
biddyboo3 – 6 inning shutout so far.
Ooof Kent. That is not helping your pitcher.
STULTS pitched a simular game like this against the Mets at Shea that I attented.
This was great.
I hope Kent’s error didn’t ruin anything.
so much emphasis on the kids. Aren’t they all doing what 24 year olds do? It’s the vets that let us down. If we had a healthy Furcal and a healthy and productive Jones and a 5 years ago Kent our offense would be just fine.
Oh Dear God!! Not the proctologist…
10 bucks messagebear.. haha
There’s our stopper Beimel! Go get ’em BobbleMan!
LET’S GO JOE
Lordy! I am watching it play by play on this Gameday thing since I don’t get Prime… I see Proctor is in now and its beginning to unravel. Sigh.
Up your Procto, Torre, you worthless GD SOB piece of crap. This guy isn’t worth a Betemit, and you keep on using this piece of crap.
So because Proctor got those runs does that mean that Stultz would not get the win? I never really understood that part of the game!
Great job Beimel! Go get em Brox!
O.K. JOE
why does he keep switching everyone on the mound?!
Stults will get the win provided the Reds do not tie up the game and we go on to win the game. That’s because Stults went five innings and we were in the lead when he left the game.
Come on!!! Get an out!!!
I think I am going to be sick from the Dodger Blues again!
Because he wants left-handed pitchers against the LH batters and right-handed pitchers against the RH batters.
I leave for a few minutes and Andre gets a double of a lefty no less (yeah!) and now what is happening with pitching?
Personally I’ve had it with Broxton too. He’s not reliable, and Beimel would be a better 8th inning stopper.
This inning courtesy of Jeff Kent.
Sara – Russell’s having a good day today – great!! And yes, you are probably right about Andre – can bat anywhere and is probably protecting Matt like you said. Thanks for the info on russell 🙂
WHEW!
kent almost gave the game away with his misplay…great D by the 40 yr old vet.
O.K. BROX
We still have a 2 run lead.
Dnelson, I know the feeling. I went to take the clothes out of the dryer and I come back to insanity! Ahhh! Thanks to y’all who have helped me with my questions! 🙂
Things can change very quickly and that is why a game isn’t over till it’s over.
Biemel scares me bear, always has. Brox would be more consistant if we had a reliable pitching coach who knew what he was doing.
I’ll give you that – I’ve never figured out why Honeycutt is there and what he ever does to affect any pitcher.
Tomorrows headline on the D’s website: “Proven veteran leader Kent trying to teach the kids it ain’t over til its over.”
Proven veteran leader Jeff Kent purposely boots a grounder to teach the kids that even a 6 run lead in the 7th isn’t safe and that you must be on your toes all the time… LOL
Errors happen, but Kent’s popped up at a very bad time. That could have been two outs, no one on and Bako batting. At least the storm was weathered. Now here’s David Weathers.
BIG 6 outs coming up.
3 down & 3 to go
Com’ on Loney, Kemp & Ethier.
The other day we were talking about the Angels and how they make things happen while the Dodgers seem to have a lot of trouble making things happen. Last night the Angels lost a game everyone figured they would win as their ace closer could not close out the game and even contributed greatly with a wild pitch.
Bottom 8th: Cincinnati
– L. Maza at second
.
One inning too late!
That’s lucky, but Loney’s 3-4 keeps him hot.
Lots of doubles today!
Nice way to bring in an insurance run.
Thanks for the info on the stadium tour with Ethier, Josh. I must have missed that game last year.
Nice to get an insurance run. I thought this game was going to be a breeze, but far be it for the Dodgers to make anything easy this year.
E T H I E R big hit.
Kemp makes the PVL play and the runner advances. Barely.
Good Grief…
Some day will they change the Mendoza line to the Sweeney line?
Did I forget to mention yesterday that I’m also in the I Hate Sweeney Club???
Un effin’ believeable…
My manager looks so much like Sweeney that when I go into work I want to smack him up side the head! I think I will tomorrow morning.
Loney 3-4, BB, 2B, 2 R, 1 RBI
Kemp 2-5, 2B, HR, 1 R, 3 RBI
Ethier 2-5, 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI
Enchanted, kind of makes the Tomato not look so bad.
Criminy Sweeney. Have some pride and just announce your retirement and save JoJo the Idiot Clown from having to use you day after day.
(Can you tell I’m a little perturbed?)
But Sweeney is still done.
.
SAMMY TIME!
You got that right birken!!!
Picket-Fence Sweeney.
.111
Come on, Sammy, put this one in the hopper.
Peru, Sweeney would have to raise his average 90 points to GET to the Mendoza Line. We already established the Sweeney Line here and he’s 11 points above it right now.
Eric – goes right along with “No Defense” Kent!
Does anyone else out there not like the “defensive indifference” play?
Count me in on that one birken. I don’t get that when a force play me be the only out you can get.
Yabba, dabba, DO!
Rather than get my BP up, I suppose I should look at the Sweeney AB philosophically – it saved JP from making his 5th out of the game.
Nice of them to schedule Cincy after all those losses in a row!!
Put me down for disliking that too, lbirken.
Next up, ndeschenes!
Enchanted, I can see it in a game where you are up by a bunch of runs where there is little chance the tying run will come up to the plate. In today’s game that runner from second might score on a single or possibly an error which means the potential tying run comes to the plate.
Anyway, things worked out and a win is a win. Hopefully the Dodgers can bring some of this offensive momentum back home. This was fun but time to go back to work.
Whatever happened to that Biemel fan after his arrest a couple days ago? I saw the police blotter that was posted but nothing after that.
Especially when a lefthander (like Jay Bruce) is up, there is a noticeable rise in batting averages when the 1B is holding the runner at first, so it is a tradeoff. lbirken is right, ultimately it’s about how many runs you are ahead. I think four runs you definitely play back, three runs depends on how you feel about the reliever, two runs you hold and look for the double play.
broxton is only unreliable on the second day of back to back appearances.. i think he’s almost always fine with a days rest.. at least that’s what i remember, if my memory serves me right.
What’s amazing is that we have three pitchers who are above the Sweeney line!
Derek Lowe has more RBI than Sweeney! And about half the AB!
DFA SWEENEY! DFA SWEENEY! DFA SWEENEY! DFA SWEENEY! DFA SWEENEY! DFA SWEENEY!
The best thing about this game IMO, beside Stults’s performance was the patience the Dodgers showed at the plate.
Real good selective hitting, in fact in yesterday’s game too.
Hope they carry this against some of the stronger teams.
the only two players on the dodgers batting below the sweeney line with at least 10 plate appearances are kuroda and billingsley. EVERYONE else, including pitchers with at least 10 appearances, is batting better than sweeney. and he’s supposedly our best hitter off the bench right? he’s going to keep hitting in clutch situations right?
UGH
stults has definitely earned himself a couple extra starts, minimum
Sweeney’s just another PVL that Torre assumes “gets it” and will turn it around. I just can’t fathom his loyalty and infatuation with the vets. I think its something Freudian…
sara – yes, although Stults will only start until Penny returns.
the other day on the dodger broadcast, they were discussing what a great influence sweeney was in the clubhouse, and how the kids should pull up a chair and learn from him whenever he opens his mouth.. if that’s what ned and joe love about him, then just keep him talking on the bench and stop throwing him out there to hurt the team..
from the press-enterprise:
“There was a Troy from West Virginia sighting today at the park, and Joe Beimel on cue helped get the Dodgers out of a seventh-inning jam.”
someone asked earlier..
I think you might have something there, E……..maybe something a little………lordoftherings-ish…….Frodo wanted Gollum to be able to recover his ‘humanity’, if you will. If there was hope for Gollum, then the Ring wasn’t going to destroy him either………..so……….if Sweeney can recover, maybe Joe can return to the batter’s box and the glory and youth that was once his will return…….
All right, stop laughing until you come up with an idea that makes better sense.
Great win and 3 in a row baby!!! Maybe the kids are starting to get it, god knows we would be 20 games under 500 if we relied on the Vets contributions….but enough of the cynicism this is a time to rejoice.
Stults, again pitched well. Why they will not give him an extended look is beyond me. When given the opportunity he has pitched reasonably well and Frank from a business standpoint it would have saved you roughly 7+ million…I am not an accountant but I think that would have been better for your books…just taking a guess here.
Kemp thru all his struggles and he has needs 8 more RBI in the next 10 games to be pacing 100 RBI. He is a natural athlete that is learning the game of baseball. Do not give up on him.
Great game Loney, Ethier, and Kemp..and all the boys….let go home and kick some Cleveland butt!!!
I am going to Midland Michigan to see my good friend Juan Bustabad, the best manager in the Dodgers organization. I will be able to see the young kids up close and personal and give you a report.
At this point I just wish I’d seen Lord of the Rings 🙂
Thanks Sara – wanted to see if the loon had been sprung. Poor kids. Agreed about Sweeney too. If you want him to tell stories, make him the bench coach.
Maybe Sweeney would be a great coach as opposed to being a .111 hitter. We need someone like him that can relate to the young guys. Rumor has it Mattingly has been with the team this week. If true, any coincidence that they are hitting the ball? Just a thought.
dodgerboy, if mattingly has been with the team, i’m going to go with it’s NOT a coincidence..
GASP!!! E!!! You have not seen……….I don’t ……..how could you not……….
You need to come to my house just before Christmas. It will be the 4th Annual Lord Of The Rings Day. Fourteen hours of Heaven on Earth! My son and I load the house with junk food and put the first one in the DVD player and take our breakfast into the living room. When that one’s done, we eat lunch and stick the second one in. When that’s done, guess what? That’s right, we eat dinner and watch the last one. Oh, the drama! Oh, the humanity! Oh, the cholesterol! Oh, the high-fat content!
Ok…nice sweep….Now can we DFA Sweeney and Proctor…neither one can help us…They only HURT us everytime they come in a game…Please let them go…Proctor always gives up runs and Sweeney forgot he is the “best” (lol) pinch hitter in the game….Just awful…Let him go Dodgers and swiftly let go of Proctor…
Another short comment….If you’ve noticed, Broxton is not as good when he has to come in with people on base, especially loaded..He does well starting the 8th with no one on….Watch…it happens alot…I didn’t like Joe putting him in in that situation…Luckily we got past it..
Oakland just tied up the Snakes.
What can I say Eric, I’m not a movie goer. I don’t even own GASP!! GASP!! a VCR or a DVD player. Used to hit the flicks quite a bit until after I moved up to Oakhurst. Then when I had fishing available vs. movies, there was only one choice to be made. Then I got married again and had two choices, but movies wasn’t one of them 🙂
I still went fishing though…
Where’s my jhall??? Sammy’s got something to say dammit!!
Well, deprived though you may be not to have seen the Greatest Movie(s) Of All Time, I could never say that you made the wrong choice by picking fishing. Although not one myself, most of my friends are diehard fishermen. I understand the mania.

Dang it, the Snakes scored again in the bottom of the 8th. 2-1 Snakes in the 9th.
Hey, boys and girls, I am actually typing
from my phone, which is a replacement because I should have been able to do this all along. Anyhow, great game today, especially James, Matt, and of course Andre (lol!). I was in and out throughtout the game, but looking at stats and comments, our vets probably should’ve been taken pointers from the kids – love the video idea of vets showing what not to do. . eric – great “Rings” story about you and your son – that is very cool! . sara – it’s always great to read what you have to say – i think you, cpompe, emma and i are a lot alike, and its great to have other females on here that are passionate about this dodger team and know what they are talking about. It’s fun messing with the boys on here too, which is fun too – lol! .
enchanted – perumike did a good job being your twin today in jhall’s absense – very funny stuff as always
: )
.
BTW – Where’s jhall, anyway? Did Ned track him down first before getting to enchanted, and eric, I would have to say you would be third – 🙂
.
I will check in a little later – michael pitched two innings with the varsity and did very well. We are getting ready to start game two of a double header. Bye for now 🙂
Torre hinted after the game that Orenduff will be called up.
Congrats on your son nellie! Enjoy the game!
does anyone want to go to the game tomorrow night? you can watch kershaw pitch, and you also get a FREE dodgers cap! i bought tickets a while ago, but i can’t go anymore, and i’m going on saturday anyway.. they’re not great seats, but they’re not bad either. reserved level, section 26. i will give them to you face value or below face. let me know! thanks.
I’ve always felt that Stults deserved more of a chance than he’s gotten so far. Every time he’s been called up, he’s done a pretty good job and he did a good job again today. With all the injuries, he should get more opportunities to start.
