You wanted it. You got it. OK, so it’s been a few days since I wrote and hopefully I’ll have some official news on Randy Wolf tomorrow. For now, I have to say that one of the funniest things I’ve read in a long time is the reference to Borat on this blog.

Randy Wolf a Dodger? How about that. I think we both remember him wearing blue 12 years ago at DS except he was pitching against us. Now he is a Dodger! I guess we’ll need to start a Wolf Pack of our own. Hope all’s well and GO BLUE!!

Ray I think Schmidt and Zito will wait to see what kind of money Matsuzaka pulls in before getting serious about negotiations. I like the Wolf signing and favor Schmidt for shorter contract. Although we can never have too many lefties, Kuo and Wolf give us two. Zito will want a six year deal worth a billion dollars so not so hot on him. Those things just never seem to work out, even though he has been durable. Go Ned!! Go Dodgers!!
Will let the Ramirez thing go now. Steve Hensen’s article in the Times says the Sox asking price for him is too high in terms of Dodger prospects. Since the Sox are trying to dump him, one would think the price would go down a bit. Stick to your guns Ned. They need him out. We don’t need him in. Go Ned!! Go Dodgers!!
I would pass on Ramirez even if the trade demands are lowered. Also, rather than pursue Maddux at his two year contract asking level, let’s concentrate on getting Schmidt, which will probably take a three year contract – maybe around $30 million. I would then consider Schmidt as a replacement for Penny and use Penny for a trade to get a power bat on the way up in his career rather than on the way down, which I figure that Ramirez will be.
It’s never the team with the best pitching that wins, and it’s never the team with the best hitting that wins, it’s usually the team with the best balance of the two. Right now the Dodgers need a front line starter and a big bat. If Ned can pull off those two things , the Dodgers should do just fine.
I’m starting to not like the idea of trading Penny. Work hard on signing Schmidt and Maddux. Benny mentioned this rotation yesterday and I have to say it looks pretty good.

we most defintely need jason schmidt thats a fact…..maddux on the other hand i think is asking too much for going 15 and 14, i mean the guy throws a gem and then gives up 6 runs in 3 innings….get schmidt, trade penny for a bat and i dont want anything else for christmas besides a dodgers manny ramirez jersey.just kidding.

Keeping CB down in the rotation might take some pressure off of him. I’m not always thrilled with Penny’s attitude, but that might be a big hole to fill in the rotation. Bats are glamorous and bring certain endorsements/contracts. However, pitching brings titles. I would love to see a big bat in the middle, but let’s not give up too much to get one.
first off you have made no mention of Kuo starting, he was dazzling at the end of the season who knows if we make the playoffs without him and the game he pitched against the mets.I also think Eric Stults can be a valuable trading chip to a team in need of a lefty starter/long reliever.Heres the rotation if Kuo is healthy.

It’s going to be very strange watching Wolf pitch on a regular basis. He’s had a lot of success at Dodger Stadium, not to mention he’s had the pleasure of beating us TWICE on that field. He’s a good pick up for the Dodgers. He’s a great competitor, he’s smart, he’s got a great cureve ball and one thing people tend to forget is that he’s a good hitting pitcher. He’ll be nice additon to the rotation. I predict he’ll win 12-15 games.

Graffiti… I think we’ll be very sorry if we get rid of Eric Stults. Solid Lefties are a hard commodity to come by and from what I’ve seen so far, the kid is very good. With the way our luck has been with pitching of late I say hold onto Stults, Bills, Kuo. Stults may need more seasoning in AAA but he CAN pitch.
Yeah Wolf in Dodger stadium is looking like it has the makings of becoming one of those steals. Pitcher’s park, good defense I agree Jeremy i think he could win 15 games as well. I understand all of our past dealings with Tampa but how did we seem to not grab Crawford? I hear they are looking to deal him and or Baldelli.
i really like stults as well…i think he has the make-up to become a decent starter…I just think he has some value and we are pretty deep. I just dont think Manny is as bad defensively as he is made out to be….sure he will have to make some plays but I like that star bat he could bring…i could see him hitting 50 like Sheff did if hes healthy.High 480’s OBP, 330. average..cmon guys plus all his old pals if you will…
Pitching, pitching, pitching. Of course that’s a great way to win ball games. The White Sox dominated the playoffs last year with their clear abundance of great pitchers. Problem is……we don’t have an abundance of great pitchers. We have an abundance of pitchers. We also have an abundance of young talent. The Vegas dugout is gonna be really crowded next year if we don’t move some of these kids. Crowded minor league dugouts are wasted resources.
We are pitching deep??? When? Didn’t the season like uh, end! only 7 weeks ago? And if I remember correctly, Stults was nowhere to be seen on the playoff roster to replace Beimel. I for one do not think this team is deep in pitching… which reminds me…

I just read on ESPN Rumor Central that the Cubs offered Schmidt a 3 year $44 million deal. We may now know what we need to beat.

13.66 million/year for Schmidt??? What is this world coming to? He’s good, but he’s not indestructible. I thought at most he’d go for $12 million, with 11 being more likely. But, he does want to play on the West Coast, so we could probably get some small discount.
