Steve Howe, 1958-2006

I’m sorry to pass along the news that former Dodger All-Star closer Steve Howe died last night in a car accident. As you can imagine, the entire Dodger organization is deeply saddened by the loss and our sympathies go out to his family and friends. Steve was a huge part of the Dodgers’ 1981 World Championship club and he will go down as one of the best closers in franchise history. He will be missed.

That’s heartbreaking news! I remember seeing him when I was a kid and cheering my brains out when he played.

I found an adorable pic of him on ebay if anyone is interested…obvously from the era when the Dodgers were encouraged to chew gum, not chaw…

Sorry to hear the news. Howe was a great pitcher who could just not keep his addictive personality in check. Imagine the career he could have had with the Dodgers otherwise.

Steve Howe had some of the best stuff I’ve ever seen in Dodger Stadium. May you rest in peace Ace.

If anyone is interested, I put a page together that pulls news feeds from all the popular Dodger media outlets and blogs
