It's pouring in Vero…
For those of us Los Angeles types, this is a little different, as we’re not used to seeing rain like this. I can hear the rain pounding the ground and window of my office here in Dodgertown, but fortunately, all the players got their work in before the downpour began.
Otherwise, it’s been a quiet day out here. The Vero Beach Dodgers picked a tough day to host their free heart screening event, as the skies opened up over their festive atmosphere. There was live music, games for kids and autograph sessions by a few Dodger players (Jonathan Broxton, Kelly Wunsch and Kurt Ainsworth). And then the rains came.
And, in case you’re wondering why this post is in red, we’re going to try and change the font color based on who is doing the writing. For me (PR Director Josh Rawitch), it’ll be in red. For Roy Smith (VP of Player Development and Scouting), it’ll be in black and for Mark Langill (Team Historian and Publications Editor), it’ll be in blue. That way, we don’t have to put our name in the headline every time. For those of you that check back regularly, you’ll get used to the colors (at least I hope you will).
Might be useful to put a note in the sidebar, like a color key. 🙂
I don’t care for the different colors at all… it’s too confusing. Just put your names in the heading like you’ve been doing. It’s the proper thing to do when you write an article, and there won’t be any misused copyright violations if someone knows who the work belongs to in the first place. Besides… it makes for easier reading. If you keep this differing color format, no matter how many times you define it, I’ll still not know who’s work it is that I’ll be reading. Too confusing… and what about any contributing writers? What color will they be? Just keep the text the same and attach your names like you’ve been doing.
I second the suggestion to please include the names of the writers. In addition to the reasons mentioned by the previous poster, I would add that it is not easy for many readers to discern which color font has been used, especially when dark colors are used.
I guess you could say that in parallel to the recent uniform decision, “We want our names back on the Blog!” : )
We’re mashing again today. Kersh will probably need to pitch a complete game shutout to get a no decision.
Last one in’s a rotten Ned!!!
I see Lindblom is coming to the show!!
Surprised they brought him up and started the clock. You know Ned’s dying to bring up Snell.
Yep, I’m sure he’s champing at the bit. It’s really amazing how many people still think this team is a contender and keep talking about making a trade to help us make the playoffs. I don’t see what is so hard or tragic about just admitting that this is not a good team. Then start the rebuilding. What a freaking joke.
Shades of 2008 when the whole division was crap and we got in riding Manny’s roided coat tails. That’s my fear though – being close enough Ned trades away what’s left of the farm for that PVL(s) that’ll propel us to 4th place.
Of course even if we were only a player or two away, Ned is not the one to be making the deals that would get players that could actually help. We’ll end up trading away the farm for Pathedniks, Theriots and Dotels!!
Thanks, Jhall….much better 😉 wouldn’t want all of my words of wisdom to take forever to post!
:)))
Way to go Kersh….show them how to get a base hit!
Holy Shit….Raffy hit one out!
Probably why Gameday is broken…
Yep, that stopped the clock!! LOL!!!
Mine no workie too!
Good afternoon all. Anyone see the 500? A real heartbreaker of an ending!
I saw the 500….dumb rookie mistake! I would be nowhere near a damn wall!
I must had jinx Furcal with those combined numbers from everyone who batting 1st for us and played SS when I said those numbers were ugly.
OMG……HITTING….HOW UNUSUAL!
Hey Beav, did you see where Bauros or something like that robbed Jim Thome of his 594th HR today? Wow!!
No. I have a hard enough time caring about our game.
.
LMAO!!!
LMFAO!!!!!!!
Bad boys 😕
4 runs today Trumom!! What did you do, break out the silver spiked leather bustierre and thong?
Whatcha gonna do?
I found my Happy Place 🙂
I like to be of help any way I can.
LOL!!!
I find my happy place every once in awhile, but now that I’m on blood pressure medicine, I can’t do anything when I get there!! LMAO!!!
Oh, shit…you guys ae too funny!
Saw the replay of Furcal’s HR – how many people are in the stands? Almost looks like a ghost town. 🙂
That’ the way it has been everyday, Enchanted.
Ya gotta love it!!!
I even think Dodgereric’s estimate he gave last night was very generous. Our crowds look more like the Marlins home games.
Gameday is working now, but way behind.
The world must be ending.
Thought that was last week!!
Holy Cow, 4 runs!!
And, more hits in one inning than we’ve had all month!
Kershaw and Gibbons have the same batting average .227.
Whats Carroll’s OBI pct. now? .0000000001?
4.7%
http://www.baseballprospectus.com/sortable/index.php?cid=987316
I know he’s no RBI man, but damn, I think I could do 4.7%
Hell, Juan Pierre is at 10.0%!!
Sands and Navarro are at .220.
Kersh 2 – 2 🙂
Just like that dback are in 1st places.
WEST W L PCT GB HOME ROAD RS RA DIFF STRK L10

GO D-BACKS!!!
Good Grief! Who the hell are these guys?!
Charlie Steiner is about as funny as a rubber crutch on the radio broadcast. What a tool!
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They might have to put Nolasco on suicide watch – 5 hits to Gibbons, Navarro and Kersh, and a HR to Furcal.
You’re having a seriously bad day when you give up rbi hits to Gibbons and Navarro.
Casey does his best to keep up the status quo.
Damn it Blake we better not go 0/3 with risp.
Dang Kershaw is up .261. if Navarro get another hit he would still be in the .230’s range.
Make that in the .220 range.
Make them pay for that ibb Kemp.
Shit Kemp! Another GIDP?!
I want to see Kemp lay down a good bunt lol.
Ouch those risp numbers still suck,
With Matt ejected, they will intentionally walk Andre the rest of the day.
With Gwynn, it’s definately a no brainer. . .
Matt said something from dugout….I don’t think it was, “Sir, that was not a strike.” 😉
What provoked Kemp into the ejection?
A called strike….Mattingly ejected too!
Not sure exactly. Maybe it’s that time of the month for the ump Kulpa.
Torre would’ve never had done that lol.
Double ejection?! No joy in Mudville today huh?!!
Ouch
Woo-Hoo…Gibbons is on fire!
Sigh just more game for him to play. Those home numbers for Sands suck.
And, Navarro too!
D’Backs now in first place. Gibsons’ got those guys playin’ some hardball!!!
Jeez, I’d pitch to Carroll.
No kidding!!
lol Navarro geez stop it boy.
After Matt hit into the dp, he must have made some comments to the home plate ump on the way back to the dugout. Matt did not like a strike call on that at bat. Matt had to be restrained and Donnie got kicked out arguing for Matt.
Yep, that’s the way it went down.
Thanks birk!
Alright Kersh!! Way to hustle.
Looks like Kersh is tired of this teams loosing.
Good hustle!
When was the last time we had 6 runs?
Make that 8 runs!
May 10th, we scored 10 against the Pirates!!!!
Thanks, I knew you’d tell me 🙂
I like to be of help any way I can.
Anything for you Trumom!!
Dang FC still goes down in the batting average with the bases loaded and screw up Kershaw batting average to.
Jeez, what are lefthanders hitting off Nolasco this year – .800?
Let’s me get back at you on that one if someone beat me to it.
vs. Left 10 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 30.2 28 – – 2 10 24 – 1.24 .243
vs. Right 10 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 37.1 37 – – 5 3 30 – 1.07 .270
Whew! They are lighting up Nolasco today!
I felt bad for him he went to my high school and we’re lighting him up.
I don’t think Matt will be missed the rest of this game.
Andre, Andre, he’ the man….he can do it like nobody can 🙂
Now, that’s my happy place!
Damn now we won’t score tomorrow.
Guess last nights game has something to do with leaving Nolasco in this long with all the relievers used. .
Well, Kersh has a big lead and low pitch count so far. He could go all the way for us today.
Dang Furcal got more rbi in this game in the #1 spot than the entire team combined that took his place. In the #1 spot we only had 6 rbi’s all season long and that was ranked dead last in the NL and now we leap frog over the Padres.
http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/batting/split/109/league/nl
Yep, our production rbi the 1 hole suck ball!!!
Yeah it do!! LMAO!!!
Dang, you too much!
We have always owned Nolasco

How empty is dodger Stadium? It’s so empty, I can read the seat numbers!
LOL!! That’s a good sign!!
I wonder if it lower than last night.
Florida ought to feel at home!
That’s one thing hard to figure. Relatively young franchise with two WS titles that always seems to be competitive. I’d figure they would draw better attendance. Alot of it is blamed on the venue from what I understand.
HA! You ever been in Florida in the summertime??!! LMAO
We’ll see what happens when they move to their new stadium next season.
Oh yeah! It’s ‘African’ kinda hot there with the heat index!!
Weird place. Had a buddy that lived there for a few years and went and saw him on Memorial weekend once. Was like a ghost town because of all the seasonal residents that had gone back up the east coast.
.
Florida – the only place I’ve ever been where the locals looked as miserable being there as you were.
I remember a wild night on the town in south beach a long time ago. Thought I wound up in hell, sweating like a whore in church till I had a Cuban sandwich and a couple of shots of that really stout Cuban coffee!
🙂
Damn! Sands on the outside looking in on this hit parade.
No idea about a 4-run lead but when Dodgers score 4 runs in a Kershaw start, the team is 5-1 this year, and 40-12 in his career.
by Eric Stephen on May 29, 2011 2:17 PM PDT
lol what a record.
Shit! Two wind blown fly ball hits!
Didn’t seem to affect Kershaw much. 🙂
Thank goodness.
Glad to see we are hitting the ball today. It’s good to see Andre getting some good hits today (Raffy and Gibbons too).
Glad you’re here..your boys have been naughty today 😉
I think they need to be spanked!
Me first!!
:))))
They are out of control? What else is new? – lol!!!!
LMAO!!!
I am hoping once Florida has their own ballpark, the fans will come. They have had a horrible time playing at the field. There is alot they (as an organization) can’t do at that place, including using the actual clubhouse.
They are treated like a tenant who is renting…. not a major league ballclub who can use it like a home. I feel bad for how they are treated in their own facility. So, hopefully with a new ballpark, condusive for their players and fans, it will be a much better situation for them.
What do you think – first game with a new owner a sellout?
That would be too freaking cool Beav!!!
Yep Nelly, I agree. They deserve better. Seems to be a well run organization. When you consider what they’ve accomplished with their limited resources and crummy stadium, it really underlines how inept and mismanaged the Dodgers have been with Frank and Furter.
If it’s logistically possible, I would definitely be at the first game with a new owner. IMO – it would be sold out. There are tons of fans on Twitter and Facebook who are purposely staying away from DS (or at maximum using the tickets they have but not buying anything else) until we have a new owner. They are watching on TV, but they are boycotting the stadium.
http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/batting/split/82/league/nl
Urgh this one is terrible.
Gosh another Furcal error.
Dang bring back Nolasco.
30, 621 per Vinny.
LOL….Eric gets a double dose!
Dodgereric ~ Todays paid attendance ….. 30,621
Actually there….who the hell knows….it sure isn’t 30,000!
Just from the couple of replays I’ve seen, I don’t see it as more than maybe a third full.
There are a lot of empty seats, that is for sure.
You’re right.
Thanks Trumom and IB!!!!
🙂 I think Dodgereric will gt the message~
*get
I’m very disappointment no k’s there lol.
Wow! Most hits in a game so far this season.
Guess that’s a given they’ll struggle tomorrow. . .
Hillman better not left Kershaw PC=101.
left=lift
Wow, I don’t think I have seen wind like this at Dodger Stadium. And I don’t mean from the batters.
C’mon Jerry!!!!
Rats!! Jerry not having a good day at the dish today!!
Time for your 1st hit Sands in this game.
Loney, the legend continues.
Yep, he’s a freaking waste.
SOS in the 8th – not scoring . . . .
Gosh damn bases loaded batting average is just going to plunge more now.
Oh they only gone 0/1 and thought they gone 0/3 in that 8th.
Back to normal.
I hate lined out to the RF.
lol especially with 1 out.
Nice catch Tony!
Thank you, Gwynn!
I wish we had 1 reliever pitcher that can pitch 3 scoreless inning. Kershaw is back out there in the 9th yeah.
Woo-Hoo, win streak. Outstanding Kersh!!!!
Awesome job Kersh and the rest of the boys! See, nothing to it! Let’s do this more often from now on, please.
Great win!
Kershaw was outfuckingstanding today!
Yep, Kershs’ OFS (OutFuckingStanding) is very high!!
Had to give the military tribute on this memorial day weekend.
Hope you can say that a lot more in the days to come.
Have a great rest of the day, everyone.
You too, Birk.
You as well my friend!!
Same to ya Birky!!!
You too, Sir.

To bad Guerrier mess those numbers up.

Jansen to DL, Lindblom gets on an airplane
http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-0530-dodgers-fyi-20110530,0,6454558.story
Yep you’re a little bit to late on that news Eric.
I don’t know why she said 42,000 and that was an so obvisously answer.
I’m sure Jansen didn’t say anything about his injury because he’s obviously seen Conte’s work.
You can tell from those 3-0 count something was wrong with him.
Thanks for the info Dodgereric!!! Have a fabulous day off tomorrow 🙂
“small fire”
“very, very good”
“…what was otherwise a fantastic day…”
.
❓ 😕 ❓
Josh Lindblom #32
It’s a honor to have Koufax number.
Well that what yahoo said but TBLA got him as #52 so I guess that was his ST number.
Since Sandy’s #32 is retired, nobody else will be wearing it. Yahoo is not the brightest bulb in the bunch – LOL
I know that seem weird but yahoo is sometime right with thing like this.
Hiccup
http://dodgers.mlb.com/team/roster_active.jsp?c_id=la
No way and wikipedia has him at 52.
What’s with the BS spin on Lindblom also? The guy was a reliever his whole career until Ned’s bright idea to make him a starter screwed him up. Now all of a sudden Lindblom’s described as a “converted starter?” What a crock.
I know! I don’t know what the hell to think of anything Neddy does….maybe he wants to leave us in a worse mess than we’re in right now when he and Frank are shown the door.
http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=lindbl001jos
Gosh another freaking good hitting pitcher we have in the minor and there is no need to make him a reliever/closer. We might have a Zambrano,Owings and Gallardo in term of hitting lol.
I don’t know. He was a starter in high school and than a closer in college so Ned probably had nothing to do with it before we drafted him.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josh_Lindblom
I would like to take this time to thank ALL of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep us safe and free. On this Memorial Day, my hats off to all who protect and serve.
Frank, Ned, and Stan need to take a page out of the OSU’s coach and sell the team/resign. These four are worthless to this organization, and they need to get the hell out. All of them are a disgrace to not only to the Dodgers but to the entire sports industry. This circus has gone in long enough. It’s time to let somebody else have a shot.
The reason I had four is because I originally had Rick Honeycutt in the post, but I figure ge is just a product of our lousy owner and GM 🙂
Do the attendance figures include the dogs in the stands the other night? Did they count them by the tickets sold or the dog poop on the playing field and in the stands? That would have to be distinguished from the poop in the owner’s box and the GM box, and some assorted poop from the dugout.
Actually, Sparkleplenty said the dogs need a ticket! I think it cost the fan $30 for a bleacher seat. Unreal, isn’t it?! So, knowing Frankie, the pooches are indeed counted as attendees 😉
I believe they estimated there were 550 canines in attendance in addition to the dogs we normally put on the field.
I need a flowchart to follow you all here. I like to pickup from where I read last but who knows what post you all used before. Oh well.
.
I was told at the stadium on Friday or was it Saturday? anyway, he is out of the country on a few days vacation.
.
Sparkle, there were over 500 dogs at the stadium. I kept seeing them circle around the field and could not believe the number of them, especially paying $30 to sit in the right field pavilion. At least the game was in the evening. No way I sit there for a day game. I don’t do well sitting in the sun.
.
Happy Memorial Day everyone!
I have not updated my blog in a long time (too busy) but this post http://crzblue.mlblogs.com/2010/05/31/memorial-day-in-flanders-fields-we-shall-keep-the-faith/ is from a year ago on Memorial Day titled: “Memorial Day: In Flanders Way. We Shall Keep the Faith.”
Two powerful poems by Lieutenant-Colonel John Mc Crae / WWI and Moina Michael, November 1918
.
I know he’s not on the team no more thanks Ned for getting rid of Wade and giving us Cormier and funny how those 2 switch teams but Wade isn’t even on the Rays 40 man roster but happy belated 28th bday to former Dodgers Wade since his bday was 2 days ago.
It’s Manny’s birthday too….wonder where the hell he is? 😉
This would be the first game that he never played on his bday.
Speaking of Manny the Rays were suppose to handout Manny bobblehead yesterday.
http://tampabay.sbnation.com/tampa-bay-rays/2011/5/29/2196042/super-sam-fuld-day-capes-rays-indians
Good morning/afternoon everyone. Hope you all have a super Memorial Day. Thanks to all our vets both past and present. And a special thought and prayer to all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and way of life!!!!
lol @ the Giants offense blowing out the Cardinals now that fluke Torres hit a GS.
Here is a new thread we can use gang!! Its about Vin Scully.
http://insidethedodgers.mlblogs.com/2006/02/22/vin-scully-contract-extension-mark-langill/
