Vin Scully contract extension – Mark Langill
Happy news today with the announcement of Vin Scully signing a two-year contract extension through the 2008 season. Scully is the most popular personality in Los Angeles franchise history, but his career started with the Brooklyn organization after he graduated from Fordham University. Needing a No. 3 announcer after Ernie Harwell joined the New York Giants, Red Barber recommended the New York native to Dodger President Branch Rickey after the 1949 season. During his first Spring Training in Vero Beach in 1950, Scully posed for this picture with Barber and Connie Desmond (center). By the time Barber left the Dodgers after the 1953 season, the baton had been passed from one Hall of Famer to another.
good to know. is it time for dodger baseball yet? i can’t wait
I’m glad Vin Scully’s contract was extended. Since moving up to (blech) Giants country a few years ago, I’ve missed hearing Scully calling games. With Giants sportscasters being anything but unbiased, even going to the point of “eliminating” fans(rubbing over people in the crowd with a telestrator in between pitches, usually fans from opposing teams), I miss Scully’s class, often letting the crowd tell the story rather than drawing on people.
I’d have to say, though, one of my favorite memories of Vin Scully happened last year, when on Opening Day against SF, the Giants’ broadcasting trailer unfortunatelly caught fire, and the Dodgers’ broadcasting team let the Giants use LA’s feed for FSN Bay Area. Hearing Scully call Opening Day in Giants country was truly beautiful, even though it lasted only an inning or two.
Can’t wait to get down to SoCal to hear Scully call a game again… for me, a game at Dodger Stadium isn’t the same unless you can hear Scully on the radio calling it as well.
One of my earliest memories happened when my parents added extra speakers around our house so that we could hear Vin call the Dodger games. If I ever had the chance to meet Mr. Scully it would be just to say “Thanks.” The stories, great moments and the class in which he announced them are cherished memories. Thanks, Vin!
It wouldn’t be Dodger Baseball without him.
My life has no purpose, no direction, no aim, no meaning, and yet I’m happy. I can’t figure it out. What am I doing right?”

Good afternoon everyone. Hope you all have a super Memorial Day. Thanks to all our vets both past and present. And a special thought and prayer to all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and way of life!!!!
No need to post the link to the new thread – I just follow the scent of the big steamy pile!
LOL!! Frank and Furter Farted!! Ned just stunk up the joint, but Frank fudged his drawers!!! I guess everyone at the stadium had to light matches the other night to cover up the stench on the field!!
Thank You DodgerEric for the latest attendance data:
Well, you certainly were right, tru! “No way they get 42,000 tomorrow” you said. Or something to that effect.

Hi’Ya Nelly!! You know us. Wally and Beav, the the voices of simple common sense sprinkled with wholesome humor!!!
Simple common sense – definitely!
Wholesome – not so sure about that! LOL!!!
It’s sprinkled all right! 🙂
:)))
http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/LAD/2011-batting.shtml
Holy crap I didn’t notice this before.
I was wondering how many IF hits Ethier, Kemp and Kershaw have.
Team PH/HR/Situ Hitting
BRS% wow Loney and Barajas. This must be the lob% stats I was trying to look for.
http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/LAD/2011-pitching.shtml
Here the pitching side. Cormier has a -10.1 which is the worst. Kershaw has a 10.1 in something that’s they call adjusted pitching runs.
Wow what happen to Soria? He just blew another save.
Soria was light out vs the Angels. Career vs. LAA 16 0 1 0 8 0 2 0 0 15.1 7 1 1 0 4 18 0.59 0.72 .137
WOW – great throw, Matt!!!
Blake vs J. Hammel 20 7 1 1 1 5 1 5 1 0 .350 .391 .650 1.041
What are you doing Donny?
No one’s ever going to accuse Donnie of knowing what he’s doing.
Yep, Donny is a Torre dildo!!!
Blake is already 2/2 with 1 of those 2 hits a triple this season vs him.
Way to go Billz….get your shit together!!!!!!
BTW great throw Kemp. Gosh this might be a quick night for Bills.
I see Blake gets the day off. Must have been a harrowing 2-3 days since he had off what?… 2-3 weeks before that?
.
Rediculous.
We NEVER get a day off! We must endure this crap day after day, year after year!
That’s because we’re SO special, Tru.
Well Tru, here they say, “oh when we get Furcal back” and, “oh when we get Blake back” yada yada yada. So now they have Blake back and yet he can’t even play in 3-4 games in a row? That’s a crock.
It is a Crock full of Nuts! 😉
Yes, Sparkleplenty, we ARE special!
Yea, its bullshit!! Hell, we’ve got an off day on Thursday!!!
If you’ve got to baby someone along that much, they shouldn’t be on the team.
C’mon Beav, under Dildons direction, Blake and Furcal are gonna save the season.
Wally I provide some more link for you.
Thanks Shad. I was checking them out earlier. Hell of alot of info. I’ll bet they keep track of when the players fart. LOL!!!
Watchgamefilm is btteer than nothing, but there were some downloading time and compatibilty issues from time to time. We have had none of those problems with Hudl. They have been very responsive to our questions and very easy to work with. I also prefer to be able to draw over the film and make text comments over the top of the film as well to help the kids learn. There isn’t a way to tag plays, repository or do highlights with watchgamefilm. I save 50-60 hours doing that alone by using Hudl. I also want to use it as a teaching tool, with Hudl, Hudl will e-mail certain clips to one or all of my kids with my comments, drawings there to coach them up. Hudl is easier to use for me and just has so much more functionality for what I want to use and I’m sure I probably used just 10-20% of the features.
fGccfQ woehkncolxpk
You know you have to rest the old players.
Nellyjune says: “Way to go James!”
I bet if GA was still on our team he would start a game in LF 5/8 in his career.
lol let see how they mess this up?
Hey, Fuckal is above the Mendoza line. Hasn’t made it above the Phew line yet.
They have our record vs each home plate umps.
Bases loaded, no outs. They’ve got us right where they want us.
C’mon, Dre!
That ball had eyes!
It should have been a DP!! We got damn lucky!!!
Love that….that ball had eyes 🙂
But hey, its about time some breaks went our way!!!
YAY!!!!!! WAY TO GO…..FROM ME & NELLYJUNE!!!!!!
The Dodger bats are still getting help from poor fielding contributing to runs. Tsk, tsk, tsk.
Gosh I had to go to the bathroom yeah Carroll love those infield hit that not vs us and yeah Ethier.
Is weird Carroll was giving himself up on those bunt attempt.
Shad ~ remember….there’s always Depends! 🙂
It would make me straighten up.
Give us a yell if you need any help. I’m not above sloppy seconds.
Shit Shad, I had you figured for a TV in the can!!! LOL!!!
Nah, shitty reception.
LOL!! Rim shot!!!
LOL!!
Ta-dot-plop!!!!
LMAO!!
Blah
You boys get worse every day….I may have to take you out to the shed 🙂
We need close supervision by 18 year old Swedish girl foreign exchange students – don’t we Wally?
Hell yes!!!! Or the Swedish Bikini Ski Team!!
Much better than the French……they don’t shave and I hear smell nasty!
I’ll bet they really need chaps! 😕
Nah, that’s a myth!! Cover me Beav, I’m going in!!!
Hell, we may never see you again, Jhall!
Not likely!! LOL!!!
Shit – replied to the wrong post!! Must be showing my age.
I kind of thought you were referring to the Swedish and French girls and not the Depends®. LOL!!!
Go Dback to.
Why is it Billz can never seem to shut down the other team after the boys go out and score him a few?
It just not him I seen that plenty of time this year.
First off, thanks to all those who have sacrificed and continue to sacrifice themselves for the continuation of the American Way of life. Words will never be enough to show my gratitude, but every day is Memorial Day for me. Though I’m no soldier, I know that the only reason I’m free to live the life I want (within reason) and make my own decisions is because of the brave, peerless men and women of the military. Thanks again.
.
Secondly, get well soon, Tommy! Thoughts and prayers are with you. ( http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/news/story?id=6608684 )
Every freaking time we scored big our opponent score in the next half inning.
Holy shit Furcal is after it again.
That was not cool.
Blah they goes the infield hit when we pitching.
btw, that’s my first ever ITD post up there… who’d know that over 5 years later, when we’d use this thread again, it’d be the stadium that was on fire…
Wow over 5+ years.
Very cool North!!! You’ve got to be the longest active ITD member.
And, look at all the wonderful people he has met 😉
I wonder where some of those other posters are at? lol let’s email them.
Way to go Jamey & Andre!
Exactly why is Gibbons on the team again?
He’s Donnie’s Juanpy.
lol it must be sad when we are winning and we still asking why Gibbons is on this team?
WAY TO GO JAMES ANTHONY LONEY!!!!
I guess Mr. Loney is tired of hearing Loweeney! Way to go James!!!!!
Yep!! I hope he keeps it up!!! WTG Loweeney!!
He loses the Loweeney tag when he is above the Phew line!!!
We have a few Weeneys on this team.
Definately!!!
.
Phew line as of 5/29:
.
………………..Avg/Obp/Slg/Ops
Phew 265/326/307/633
Loweeney 238/286/304/590
lol now split the stats for this months only..
lol I wonder how many VORP he would get from this game?
Loney has a VORP of -6.0 as of 5/29. So, I guess we will see tomorrow how much it goes up. He’s still by far the worst player on the team and one of the worst in baseball by this particular grading standard. If he keeps hitting well, it should improve.
Since when can this team score runs?
Is Loney back for now?
NOOOOOOOOOOO…..not GrrrRear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jo Jo Reyes snap his 29 games winless streak for the Blue Jays. The Dback winning 11-4 against the Marlins.
Oh oh . . . .
Amazing how a six run lead doesn’t seem like enough.
LOL!!!!!!
Good evening all.
Late arrival tonight for me. Just got off work.
Are my eyes & ears deceiving me, or have the bats woke up?
.
Just want to express thanks & gratitude to ALL my fellow veterans who’ve served – past & present. Especially to those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Hot Damn!! DP!!!
Hey Trumom, what does attendance look like?
Looks like last night.
Cool, thanks!!
LA Dodgers
IP H R ER BB K HR WHIP Season ERA
C. Billingsley 7.0 11 1 1 2 8 1 1.29 3.46
Damn the whip in this game for Bills is 1.88. Wow I didn’t know Bills record was just 2-5.
They haven’t been scoring any runs for him!!! He’s certainly pitched better than his record would indicate.
Career vs. COL 12 10 2 5 0 1 0 0 0 58.1 62 35 35 9 38 49 5.40 1.71 .273
With those 2 SB’s that Bills has given up those are his 1st 2 SB’s that he has allowed this season.
Sorry, my bad, I thought you were talking about this year. Not just his record against the DBacks. No, he hasn’t faired well against the DBacks over the years for some reason.
His career ERA isn’t good so can’t be the lack of run support.
An ERA of 3.46 is pretty good!! His record this year has nothing to do with his career ERA.
Yep wasn’t talking about this season record.
T Tulowitzki grounded into double play, shortstop to first, E Young Jr. scored, C Gonzalez out at second, D Fowler to third.
lol stupid espn.
Okay, Elbert…be sharp!
Oh, well!
Guess it’s too much to hope for, isn’t it?
Shit! WTF ………as Jhall would say: “UNACCEPTABLE”!
Great now it’s GrrrRear’s turn!
Totally!! Good thing we’ve got a big lead!!
That is not cool and we just can’t make this easy.
Nice DP one more Guerrier.
Todays attendance: 36,962…..Vinny says tons of walk-ups today.
Thanks Tru-Attendance-Mom!! If not for $1 Dodger Dogs, they might not have gotten 30K.
LOL…amazing…pay $20 to park for a $1 hot dog!
Never underestimate people’s stupidity. Frank doesn’t.
It still looks very empty, no matter what they say is the attendance. Like I said before, the bleachers are so empty you can read the seat numbers. The yellow seats are the same. When they try to do a wave…there aren’t enough people to keep it going 🙂
Doh, Exactly!! Not to mention the price of the ticket and they soak your ass for soft drinks or beer. Hell, go to the grocery store, stay home and grill out and they probably cost less than a freakin’ buck..
Isn’t beer there $5?
Water is $5…at least it was the last time I was there….probbly $6 by now. Beer has to be between $8 and $10.
If I recall correctly, Beer is 6, 8, and 10 bucks depending on the size. With the $6 being the best value.
.

What a waste buying water there? Where are those water faucet?
Rox are pulling a Dodgers – 12 hits, 4 walks and one run.
Yep, there 1 for 11 with RISP and 11 LOB!! Definately Dodger numbers. Billz really gutted it out today!!
Lindblom’s debut coming up?
Come on Javy….way tomgo one out already.
*oops to go
Spoke to soon…..come on Guerra!
Hey Shad, what team has the worst production from the Catcher position? We’ve got to be way down on that list.
I think we high in HR’s and Rbi’s.
To bad Tulo didn’t do that with risp.
Gosh these freaking fielder’s indifference.
Whew! Never a dull moment!
Wow! A winning streak!
So strange being outhit, but not outscored. I got so used to it being the other way around!
I detest using 3 bullpen guys to closed a 7-1 lead.
The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!
Woo-Hoo!! Win streak!!!
Wow I didn’t know Visquel never played 1st base before and had to PR for Konerko and they left him played 1st.
Oh yeah that was Sands first hit that wasn’t a double at DS this year.
http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/batting/split/78/league/nl
Thanks Shad!! Yep, we’re in the bottom 5 at Catcher and 1st Base. Probably Left Field as well.
Yep LF
http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/batting/split/83/league/nl
Wow 3rd to and hopefully Blake bring this number up.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all who have given their all for our freedom. If you haven’t watched this, you need to. If you have seen it, you’ll want to watch it again:

Outfield Assist: B DeWitt (C Lee at Home).
Hmmmmmmmmm another game where DeWitt played LF only because of Soriano injuries.
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AqusvNwmuRRZdScy.ukfrac5nYcB?slug=teamreports-2011-mlb-lad
I’m going to take parts of that Dodgers Team Report article out.
Ethier was in a 2-for-31 slump going into Friday’s game, which dropped his average from .362 to .311. Since then, he’s gone 8-for-14 with two doubles and a home run.
James Loney homered Monday for the second time in four games, after going 45 games between home runs. That was part of a three-hit and three-RBI game for him. Loney is batting 32-for-99 (.323) in his last 31 games.
By The Numbers: 43—Home runs by SS Rafael Furcal as a member of the Dodgers. Furcal, in his sixth year with the team, is one away from Glenn Wright’s total for second place among Dodgers shortstops. The leader is Pee Wee Reese with 122 home runs over 16 seasons. Furcal’s 14 leadoff homers as a Dodger rank second behind first-base coach Davey Lopes’ 28.
2-out RBI: J Loney 3
Dodgers RISP: 4-4 (J Carroll 1-1, A Ethier 2-2, J Loney 1-1)
FIELDING
DP: 3 (J Carroll-R Furcal-J Loney, R Furcal-J Loney, R Furcal-J Carroll-J Loney).
Outfield Assist: M Kemp (C Gonzalez at Home).
Something you don’t see often and this team went 4/4 with risp and they should show risp with the based loaded. I don’t know why espn don’t put the OF numbers of assists there same with yahoo but it wouldn’t be so bad and I guess since it such a rare thing they don’t bother with it.
Chad Billingsley (4-4) allowed one run and a career-high 11 hits in seven innings, struck out eight and walked two. The right-hander improved to 2-2 in his sixth home start after his teammates produced the kind of run support that he had been lacking, getting just 1.29 runs—third-lowest in the majors—in his previous home games. Billingsley lowered his home ERA to 1.71.
Good Morning to my ITD family. I’m getting dizzing bouncing back and forth between threads! Hurry back Josh!
Hurry back? It’s been eight days since his last post. He must be awfully busy shoveling the shit that McCourt puts out.
Probably true. Just wondered why he hasn’t talked up the upcoming hand-outs….all those bobblehead nights have to be a top prioity. Frank desperately needs money in his pocket.
